The human fighter meme actually seems like an evolution of the general trend away from actual game mechanics because I rarely if ever saw any of those types of memes back in the 3.5 days. There was just more of a center on actual performance of the classes and shit and while people have different ideas of what balance thresholds classes should have (No games tend to prefer around Bard levels, actual gamers who play past level 10 would go with Psion or even the Wizard). When 5e came around, when you actually look at the rules you'd find out that there was actually NOTHING TO ACTUALLY USE. No Magic Items, Skills barely exist, class features are just fluff and now people went on more towards Aesthetics rather than mechanics. The Human Fighter became a staple of discourse because it is seen as masculine and traditionalist. Nobody cared about the actual performance because you can literally just make shit up, it's called a "Magical Tea Party" and when I played 5e I would just make shit up and roll dice and the DM would just let me do it. Hell they even seem to PREFER that you do this! I wouldn't even say it was that bad of a time, but I felt like at that point I might as well just be playing a more freeform RP at the end of the day.I just hate this consensus that rules is bad and shit and now we have to deal with mostly garbage culture war sludge because the fundamental system is so undercooked that there is literally nothing to talk about when it comes to that. In fact it seems like mainstream gaming discourse is mostly about presentation than it is about actual gameplay, it's like catnip for midwits who don't really get the underlying systems and don't have the intuition necessary to actually dissect what is going on.
>>98418431>D&DWho cares? Rather than bitch about this shit for the billionth time, have you tried NOT playing D&D?
They say>rules is bad and shitbecause they don't, they just want to larp.
>>98418431D&D 5e is not a 'game' so it's completely pointless to discuss classes, skills, et cetera. It's a collaborative storytelling framework. Its purpose is for outcast freaks to socialize while pretending they are super special instead of ugly, broken and defective. It is an excuse for unlovable people to get together and see if there is another unlovable person that will have sex with them, sex which is in most cases, homoerotic.
>>98418469>real games have never been played
>>98418431>No Magic ItemsIncorrect.>Skills barely existThat's right, they trimmed the list down so there weren't 5000 flavors of history or culture because nobody actually invested in half the skills in 3.X anyway.>class features are just fluffObjectively untrue, and in fact 5e/2024 characters get MORE mechanical features than anything in 3.X which get maybe 2-4 at most.>people went on more towards Aesthetics rather than mechanicsYou're just wrong.>The Human Fighter became a staple of discourse because it is seen as masculine and traditionalistYeah, it's meaningless culture war garbage, and the only place you see people talking about it is 4chan where a bunch of faggot subhuman contrarians live their pointless, meaningless, useless lives whining on the internet about perceived slights because their egos are too fragile to handle reality.>Nobody cared about the actual performance because you can literally just make shit upAgain, untrue, but that's just what 3.X was. It was a bunch of people making shit up and shitting it out as "third party content" which really, was all just poorly balanced homebrew with a price label and the careless endorsement of WOTC slapped on it. like 80% of the shit released for 3.X was utterly useless garbage or broken as fuck and never allowed.>when I played 5e I would just make shit up and roll dice and the DM would just let me do itThat's your GM being a retard because that's not how it works. That, or you're a lying little nogames faggot which is far more likely.
>>98418485A 'real game' using D&D 5e has not being played, because 5e is not a 'game'. No offence, but you sound a bit simple, for lack of a better word. I recommend putting your question in ChatGPT to get an answer instead of bothering real, ensouled people next time around.
>>98418431>>98418494>I just hate this consensus that rules is badNo such consensus exists. Rules are fine, but the more detailed your rules, the less flexibility there is for the players to find creative solutions to problems. It just becomes a game of who can remember the most busted bullshit. It's like common core education, it becomes about memorization rather than critical thinking and actual learning. Doesn't help 3aboos need 500000 pages of tables because they're too retarded to use context clues or think critically. They need the book to hold their hand every step of the way and if they can't powergame their way past a problem they kick and scream and cry.>the fundamental system is so undercooked that there is literally nothing to talk about when it comes to thatJust because it's not the lazy faggotry of 3.x where buildfaggotry ran rampant doesn't make there nothing. It's just all the major talking points have been talked to death. Coffeelock got removed for example, because it was retarded cheesy bullshit, and good riddance. The less cheese or powergaming a system has, the better.>mainstream gaming discourse is mostly about presentation than it is about actual gameplayBecause you're using 4chan where 99% of /tg/ doesn't play games and never has, they're culture war tourists using tabletop RPGs as the new battleground for their manufactured astroturf bullshit. Even then, I see more arguments about mechanics on this board than you're claiming.>it's like catnip for midwits who don't really get the underlying systems and don't have the intuition necessary to actually dissect what is going onBut enough about 3.X.
>>98418495>5e isn't a gameExplain, without showing your real or feigned ignorance of the system. If you bring up a lack of tables or act like because there aren't 50 skills it "isn't a game", you lose. If you state it lacks mechanics for something it has, or when I point out it has those mechanics and you move the goalposts to say those mechanics aren't REAL mechanics, you lose.
>>98418469Good god that sounds like projection if I've ever heard it.
>>98418515someone bigmad that their game lacks dialectical materialism desu
