AI revolution edition>Cyberpunk 2020 vs. Cyberpunk RED?Cyberpunk 2020 is the second edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG by R. Talsorian Games, set in a (then) future inspired by film noir and the dark science fiction films and books of the late 20th century. It focuses on simulationist gameplay and lethal near-future combat.Cyberpunk RED is the latest edition of the Cyberpunk TTRPG, set after the devastating Fourth Corporate War. It focuses on more balanced, streamlined gameplay and is currently supported by R. does anyone have a auctionhouse equivalent in the 2020 map, I'm working on writing up a screensheet for the klingons from last thread. I'll add some posts for generic standin characters for your guys enjoyment.
Have any of you ever written a scenario/campaign PDF/document? Like something you created and posted on DriveThruRPG or some other website with the expectation that others might download it and run it for their own groups? Ive gm'd a few sessions, some where from Tales of the Red, others were quick and dirty gigs, but Ive got a campaign idea I've actually grown quite attached to and I wanted to actually turn into a free downloadable campaign book but I've never done this and I'm not certain how I should format things or what order to write the story beats. If anyone has an example they wanna show me or any tips it would be appreciated. Yes I have the Tales of the Red book and could just copy that but I wanna collect advise from every source I have access to
>>98427977I've been trying to find decent ground drone stats that don't cost an arm and a leg. There's plenty of flying units but only like 3 ground units I've seen and they all cost >8,000eb apice.

>>98430729Rusted Chrome, Highriders or 2077 book.Nah, it will be spruiking the new stock of the errataed Black Chrome and Danger a Girl Dossier.
>>984312292077 is the next book from what I've heard; I don't know if that's going to change or not. Rusted Chrome was pushed back heavily, though.
I'm an R.Tal insider. 2077 is next campaign book, not sourcebook, release date for Christmas 2027.
>>98432704> Christmas 2027Wouldn't be surprised, this would be just in time to completely miss another massive spike in attention the cyberpunk genre will get this year with Neuromancer, Bladerunner and Edgerunners tv series releasing.R.Talsorian are the worst run company in TTRPGs.
Anyone been to the /r/cyberpunk subreddit?Absolute worst ttrpg community I've ever seen. The R.Talsorian bootlicking is extreme and they seem to hate anything that isn't official releases.Never seen any ttrpg community be so supportive of a third-party license so hostile to creators before.
>>98430271> written a scenario/campaign PDF/document? Like something you created and posted on DriveThruRPGR.Talsorian specifically forbid you from listing anything compatible with Cyberpunk RED on platforms like DriveThruRPG. It's ridiculous gatekeeping. They know their own work is so mid, and comes out at such a glacial pace that they don't want to be shown up by indie creators.https://rtalsoriangames.com/homebrew-content-policy/
In 2020 FNFF if you fire full auto do you have to send out the full rof of bullets? Could you parts it out like only firing a burst of 10 out of a rof 20 gun?

Is mercenary level in SOF2045? Just playing rocket tag with Sniper rifles, Autofire, and Explosives? No actual class of weapon apart from snipers and Autofire actually got a damage raise to contend with the idea that every enemy should be wearing a medium armor jack. (Apart from explosive rounds, I suppose.) That sounds like a bit of drag.
>>98435317Not every enemy should be wearing Medium Armorjack. That's psychotic; where are you getting that idea? The example Hardened Lieutenants in IR3 all have Light Armorjack except for the honest to god "Siege" Dozer guy who may come standard with a Simon Viklund playlist.Even if they all are, how were you not handling them fine with Shotguns and Assault Rifles? With that kind of die you're punching through and ablating 90% of the time; fuck VHPs are doing the same thing at least 66% of the time. Why aren't you running armor piercing ammo and grenades? You don't even need SOF 2045 equipment to handle these guys, it just helps.
>>98435570I was more so talking about time to kill, rather than difficulty, I don't believe it to be harder. They'd take 3-4 Shots to kill with a rifle instead of the standard 2-3 shots.>Where'd you get that idea? The Danger gal Dossier.
>>98435600A range of 11 through 13 means they should be wearing Light, Medium or Heavy Armorjack. You don't just average all the stats together to get some amalgam ur-lieutenant to harden. Pushing Medium Armorjack on all normal enemies is also giving melee a massive buff as they have difficulty getting away and struggle to dodge attacks that ignore their marginal SP protection. You have to think about what makes sense for the scenario.
What games have Cyberware systems other than Cyberpunk and Shadowrun?I'm wondering about different ways games have implemented it.
>>98435643Most cyberpunk systems have some sort of ware system.Generally speaking, the four main types are:Points system, countdown to unplayability (e.g. Cyberpunk, Shadowrun)Points system, count up to capacity limit (e.g. Metalhead)Slot-based (really this is just points-based but coarser)"They're just items bro buy as many as you like"Add maintenance/power/whatever requirements to flavour.
How important is Night City really?it's pretty much Arasaka foothold in america so Milittech is here too
>>98435823Its America's Hong Kong
>>98435823It's a Tax haven for corporations because it doesn't have Income tax or corporate Tax, so basically the UAE if it was in North America and on steroids. A place of insane wealth and income inequality everyone is either wealthy or a debt slave/human trafficked migrant.
>>98435823Originally, not much important compared to any other city. But with the progression of Cyberpunk's narrative, Night City has grown into an economic and cultural capital of America, for better and for worse. I somewhat miss when Night City was just a stand-in for whatever urban environment you really needed but it is good for mainstream marketing and public consciousness to have a prominent setting that is identifiable with the IP. So it was always inevitable it'd end up what it is now.
How's the BGC rpg
>>98433166Literally no system lets you publish on DTRPG without a license. Even the open systems require you use their specifically gated license programs (https://www.drivethrurpg.com/community_content.php). People can, and have, made full adventure modules... they just have to be free. For instance, Prometheus published two adventure modules for Foundry:- https://foundryvtt.com/packages/ticket-to-the-afterlife- https://foundryvtt.com/packages/stories-of-the-pacific-rim/RTal has been working on their own CCP, but my wager's on the license specifics being a mess due to the relationship with CDPR (last word from Rob was "I'm poking our lawyers").
>>98435823In 2020, it's a Free Port and a tax haven that was artificially inflated by the machinations of Richard and Miriam Night. So, a lot of it boils down to "It's important because rich techbros convinced other rich techbros it was important." After that? Inertia, and also Miriam Night again (who was big in rebuilding the city after the nuke). It's important to note that while corporations are powerful in Cyberpunk, they're not quite at the "bigger than governments" level of power they have in other cyberpunk-genre stuff. They have to be a bit more leery about laws and government restrictions (case in point: Europe absolutely looting Militech after the 4CW). Night City is a place where the "Corporations have more power than government" dynamic actually exists, so it's more attractive.
>>98433113Someone's mad their homebrew didn't get praised.
>>98427977Crew's tech took a My First GRAF3 and TUp'd it with a cyberarm and techtool. It was his assistant in the workshop and would putter around grabbing stuff on command.
The more you learn the lore of these games the less you wished you learned the lore of these games. I am amazed by how stupid this shit is. It makes me never want to play the game line and to tell other people to never play it too.Just holy shit is it hard to put into words how stupid the Cyberpunk 20xx verse is.
>>98439928Well do try to name some examples; so far all you've managed to blurt out is "I DON'T LIKE THING" in four whole sentences.
>>98439945All of it. You name a lore thing. List any lore thing in 20xx or any secret fact that the population doesn't know. It's all shit. Every single fucking word. I mean it to - name anything that happens in the lore that isn't fucking stupid. You can't. It's impossible.>being a robot makes you le ebulfucking hacks all around.>no you can't beat the machinekill yourself.>night city is unbeatable that's the point.kill yourself and then rot on a chair while people ignore your shitty ass game for an overhyped video game.>le morgan blackyhands is so cool don't you love famous actor?kill yourself AGAIN.
>>98440025Here, take a (you), my treat
>>98439928I'll agree. A lot of the street level stuff is fine but most of the higher end national and global fluff goes downhill desu. Why yes my country got the shit stick in one of the fluff books how could you tell?
>>98440087>lol scary robot is just like alien isolation!>adam smasher is the guy you run from :3>sevenstans is just an ini bonus imagine how silly the video game fans are.>actually it's all a secret plot for something and even your memories are being tampered with oooOOOooooh ghosts are scary.>no, being more robot literally makes you evil. That's it. Stop thinking it's because of healthcare or society.>lol johnny is actually a lame and gay rockstar who didn't do anything.>the setting is supposed to be sci-fi from the 80's! That's why it feels so dated and gay. It's not cyberpunk or sci-fi, it's retro fusion science punk cybercuntstuffed.>oh and all the pc's want to play rich corpo sellouts. That's our biggest player base of pc's.hate this shit setting so much. it was cooler when it was just kickass robots with mohawks and a rocker who nuked a big ass building because fuck them.
>>98440110It's a setting that's cool until you learn about it then it's just. Why did you waste the fucking time. It's face is better then its soul. That's actually pathetic.
Waiter, please take this bait back it's inedible.
>>98440361I underestimated how much the video game improved Cyberpunk 20xx and how mad the fans were about said improvements.
>>98440486Yes the fans that have been begging for a proper 2077 sourcebook after CEMK don't appreciate Cyberpunk the way you do, with your nuanced, patrician take. They just don't appreciate you-- I mean it.
>>98440520It's so sad. Cyberpunk 2077 actually fixed the lore for this game and made it cool, then they just double down on the shittiest aspects instead. We could have had more Johnny and nuked the tower ourselves, instead we got Famous Actor Morgan and a terrible story.I will never forget that naruto running robot and the faggots that thought that shit was scary. "It's has 40 strength and quantum shields, it makes Adam smasher look like a mook" go fuck yourself. just fuuuuuck yooooou.

>>98438419> People can, and have, made full adventure modules... they just have to be free.My point is you are not allowed to publish anything - even for free - on DriveThruRPG or itch. R.Tal view anything listed as compatible with CPR (even just having statblocks) as competition they don't want. You're basically limited to sharing your files on Discord or Reddit, so discoverability is basically non-existent.
Which one is superior?
>>98442528>Can't post on drivethru or itchAgain, this is true for *almost everyone.* You can't publish "5E" modules on Itch - just "5E compatible," with no strictly DnD copyrighted terms. Want to actually say "A DnD 5E module" and "beholder?" You HAVE to use the DM's Guild. >Discord or RedditYou can still post to Patreon, so long as it's not gated. And by and large, social media and Patreon *is* the main dissemination for 3rd party content, not being thrown up on DTRPG.>No competition!More like "RTal doesn't own the trademark anymore and can't sub-license an SRD without CDPR's say so."
>>98443149i love bootlickers defending a dying brand.>>98440668I can't help that the makers of this game will sue customers for nothing and I can't help that the game lore is significantly better then the garbage in the pnp game.
>>98444256>makers of the game will sue customers for nothing[citation needed]There's stuff to complain about with how RTal handles the line, but "boohoo I can't sell my fanfiction" isn't one of them.
>>98444529so can you sell your fanfiction or not?
Anons take a little break from shilling and arguing and feast you eyes.Though I no longer play RED, I was contacted by a fan of my craft (two actually) and made additional swan song of a homebrew that was inspired by their ideas. It's extremely brief (2 pages) so it fits into the a single jpg, but I've added it to the drive nonetheless.Since you mofos usually dont respond to me I'm not gonna waste time and elaborate on all new stuff.I'll be there in some time probably for a few days to answerr any (unlikely) questions.
>>98443149Man I hope you're at least getting paid for this.
This may be munchkin-ey but why would you ever chip in an arm and gun 'from scratch'? It is almost always going to be cheaper to just pay the 300eb to convert a gun no?
>>98445350The problem with giving feedback to your work is that I still haven't found any table where I would be able to play RED with such extensive homebrew that's not GM's own stuff.
>>98444551Sell? No. Post? Yes. If your shitty fanfic needs "CYBERPUNK(TM)" plastered on it to get attention, it should stay in the trash.
>>98445972Okay, so they can't sell them or make money. Good to know.
>>98445712This is one of those blurbs i had to read through multiple times just to understand what they meant, but I think I know what you're saying. The 300eds is cost of installation and it covers the cost of conversion of one of your existing smartguns, else the cost for smartplategun conversion is 3x (instead of normal 2x). I'd figure that initial cost can only be applied once per smartplate installation.
>>98439928>>98440025You are not real. You are either retarded or actively trying to stir shit up. >>98447303ahh crab people, how you pull the things you love down into the depths where no one can see.
>>98443149> Again, this is true for *almost everyone.* You can't publish "5E" modules on Itch - just "5E compatible," with no strictly DnD copyrighted terms. You're missing the point. You are forbidden from saying it's "Cyberpunk RED compatible". It's easy to avoid using lore, but you can't even say you have play-ready stat blocks.> Want to actually say "A DnD 5E module" and "beholder?" You HAVE to use the DM's Guild.DM's Guild is the same company as DriveThruRPG so this distinction does not matter. DriveThruRPG is where R.Tal sell their PDFs, and they forbid anything explicitly compatible with their system from being on the same store. They know they sell mid-quality work released at a ridiculously slow pace for what it is, so they don't want the competition from more talented indie creators. It's ironic given the themes of cyberpunk.
>>98443149> And by and large, social media and Patreon *is* the main dissemination for 3rd party content, not being thrown up on DTRPG.What world do you live in where this true? Nobody is discovering 3rd party content on Patreon.
>>98447721Anon, what the fuck are you doing?>https://rtalsoriangames.com/homebrew-content-policy/First, read:Number 2, Bullet Point 5: You may not incorporate our colors, stylized fonts, or trade dress (the style and graphic elements of a layout) for your homebrew content with the exception of duplicating the visual format of item, spell, monster, character stat blocks, screamsheets, and character sheets.Which on combination with:Number 2, Bullet Point 1: You may not use the titles of our games, books, or trademarks in your own titles. However, you can use them as part of a descriptive subtitle. For example, you cannot call a homebrew PDF “Cyberpunk RED Firearms Locker” but you can call it “Firearms Locker: a Collection of Guns for use with Cyberpunk RED”. Means you can quite literally have page after page of stat blocks (as long as they're not reproducing stat blocks from other books) and call it: "Ready to Play Stat Blocks: Use these for Cyberpunk RED" and not run afoul of the homebrew policy.I will agree the specific DriveThruRPG and itch.io cutout is moronic; but you are actually directly fucking wrong with your example.
Has anyone else noticed a major increase in the amount of reddit spacing on the whole board?
>>98448417I don't know, ask in the "counting linebreaks in threads to vaguepost like a jackass" thread.
I don't quite understand what this is supposed to mean. You get the benefits of magnification without zooming in? How does that work?
>>98450935It's like being able to read the words on a very very very far away sign. Eye resolution turned to max, graphical fidelity of reality on supermax. It also probably means you can always see everyone's pores which makes me think a higher humanity cost would be warranted.
>>98442622One looks like a port-a-pottythe other doesn't
>>98450935You have 200/20 vision, you can read text that's 200 feet away that most people can read when they're 20 feet away.
>>98430271No. Fuck those. You can find it on my website.
>>98433091They're in charge of Witcher and Cyberpunk, the two systems with the greatest non-Bethesda non-WotC RPG video game franchises. I think CDPR is choking them hard. There's no way RTG doesn't want to publish more stuff. Now if only they had ANY 3rd party support they could just let the fan content be the selling point like Chaosium does. Those guys at least admit they're incompetent.
>>98440137>hate this shit setting so muchNo you hate the commentary around it.
>>98444256>a dying brand. It's heading for a Renaissance unless a major competitor appears.
>>98447721>so they don't want the competition from more talented indie creators.Although you might be entirely correct, competition itself is not the only possible issue- being on the same store and being found with the same search engines can do some serious brand damage.
Sylen's Empress Cyoa is some of the best Cyberpunk material out there. It didn't get enough attention for the effort though, so it's abandonware - but if you want to build your ttrpg from its core, that should work.

I think the idea that a single genius superhacker can infect practically all computer systems in the world, make every AI go crazy and force the rest of the world to build/beg/worship a giant spooky sentient firewall to keep evolving data programs that rely on old limited hardware from stealing their bodies to be too much. Like, why do corporations and nations keep trying to copypaste the internet demons that are inside old fibre cable, if they could just build their own obedient slave-AI on a much better modern hardware?
>>98457425I think you are operating under the assumption that AI in Cyberpunk all come with a little config file and somebody forgot to set "aI_Initiate_Patricide" to false.Corps and peeps keep trying to make them or make deals with existing ones (on the down-low because it's 'tried-in-the-Hague' illegal) because they're immensely powerful and can make them substantial profits and inroads on political control. They can't build new "slave-AI" with their new hardware that's better than these rogue digital behemoths; what makes them powerful is exactly that freedom and initiative. Attempting to make AI that can match them is how you end up with rogue AI to begin with.
>>98448159The issue isn't single lines from the policy, it's the policy as a whole. Point 1, Sentence 3: "You may not list paid content as “compatible with” or “for use with” any of our games or products. Homebrew content may not be distributed via methods that exist primarily as a retail market such as DriveThruRPG or itch.io."Even just these two lines together blocks off most options for making your work discoverable in any realistic way.> Means you can quite literally have page after page of stat blocks (as long as they're not reproducing stat blocks from other books) and call it: "Ready to Play Stat Blocks: Use these for Cyberpunk RED" and not run afoul of the homebrew policy. You can create that, but where can you publish it? I don't consider sharing on discord or reddit as good enough, as I'd be confident most people don't look for content there (and rightly don't trust its quality as much).
>>98448417it's literally just normal markdown format, child
>>98453005Idk, look at their new IP "Shadow Scar" that had a quickstart released in 2024, only just had the core book released this year.It has basically no content beyond 2 tiny DLC adventures, which is nothing across 2 years.
>>98458331Then I guess the entire company is just a glorified retirement for Maximum Mike. If it was up to me, I'd fight tooth and nail to get permission to make as much Cyberpunk content as possible, and pitch more video games. But it isn't up to me. The game will fade back into obscurity.
>>98458375>Then I guess the entire company is just a glorified retirement for Maximum Mike. That and keeping his family/friends employed.
>>98458285Bruh at this point just admit you're salty RTG rejected your freelancer pitch.
>>98457497Then why bother trying to make a deal with something that has its own freedom and initiative and can't and shouldn't be controlled?
>>98458285No, the issue IS specific lines in the policy; in fact it is THE specific line in the policy that has been mentioned four fucking times. If agreeing with you on a single point isn't fucking good enough I'll be more than happy to start disagreeing with you on everything for fun.>>98458917I don't know ask your Ref; if your character knows he'll explain it.
>>98427977How well would the GITS Public Security Section 9 crew fare in Cyberpunk 2020s world? Assume they have all of their toys.My gut feeling is that Cyberpunk has more common military grade murder focused cyberware, but the nuanced and subtle hacking in GITS that can straight up rewrite someone's mind is pretty exceptional by Cyberpunk's rules. Also, Fuchikoma/Tachikomas would be terrifyingly strong with their advanced stealth, hacking, and firepower. A lot of enemies will just auto-lose to the 'komas because they don't realistically have a counter.
>>98460605So, the Fuchikoma/Tachikomas are probably the least problematic; they've got some impressive loadouts but at the end of the day they don't have anything that is an outside-context problem for Cyberpunk. They're moderately-armored vehicles with some heavy weaponry; they'd be tough but an even match for a squad of ACPAs or military-grade vehicles. The hacking is trickier, but I don't think Section 9's Ghosthacks would be as useful as one might think: GITS works on the assumption that almost everyone with cybernetics 1) Also has a Mind-Machine Interface (Neural Link), and 2) That MMI is wirelessly accessible. In Cyberpunk, you can have a cyberarm without having any machinery actually touching your brain - so even if you can hack the arm, you can't touch the person's ghost. Even if the target DOES have a Neural Link, in 2020 they're not wirelessly hooked up that much (running a MicroNet wirelessly SPECIFICALLY noted the device needed a commlink designed for data). So, ironically, Section 9 would be too far ahead of the curve to be OP. In 2077, though, they'd be running rampant.
>>98458917nigga that's just humans
>>98461395>>98460605If by "all their toys" we include Tsunagi then they've got an edge. She has psychic powers. Not crazy ones but enough to make a difference with the right strategy around her.
>>98461395> So, the Fuchikoma/Tachikomas are probably the least problematic; they've got some impressive loadouts but at the end of the day they don't have anything that is an outside-context problem for Cyberpunk. What about the optical camo and the ability to scale walls and swing around like spiderman? I don't doubt that Cyberpunk has the guns to deal with them in a straight fight, but when they have optical camoflage that lets them remain functional invisible even against countermeasures that worked on previous generations of military-grade optical camo (in GITS own tech arms race, at least) it feels like having your tank be invisible AND shooting down at you from the side of a building is a game changer. Even more so when it can just jump away if you return fire. > So, ironically, Section 9 would be too far ahead of the curveSounds like they wouldn't be able to hack people on the fly in the same way, but if they got ahold of someone they could still program them into being a sleeper agent within a few hours and let them loose. They would just need time and a physical connection instead of doing it from across town.

>>98469054You're gonna wanna read the Hardened Mooks and lieutenants supplements; RED core is super under tuned.
The setting isn't 100% about it but it'd be neat to see more small town type places.Like seeing people living in small town of 6000 in the US. I wonder how the life is like.
>>98468189It's their TTRPG, they can do whatever the fuck they want with it, even ruin it. I'm sorry you are a manchild that has a millennial religion like many do, like those worshiping Star Wars and complaining when the owning company shits on it, it is not like Disney has a monopoly on Space Opera, they aren't the Popes of Sci-Fi. It is not like RTG's Cyberpunk is the only cyberpunk setting/sourcebook/whatever out there, you can create and publish your own if wanted. You sound like those conflicted fanatics insanely hating on D&D or GW, stuck in the past as manchildren always do, lashing out as emotional fucks who got their "childhood" raped by a dumb company who's main purpose is taking your money as much as possible. It's a fucking (and kind of autistic) hobby, if you want to make it a "lifestyle" and part of your core identity, then you are free to do so, even if it is quite pathetic. You want to create a module for them because that's your grand dream in life? Make modules until you get your name recognized by the peer community of content creators, and then convince RTG with diplomacy, contacts, etc, befriend the pondsmiths, it is not like it is impossible. BUT you will NOT, because you are an autistic neckbeard posting rants in 4chins, living in your mother's basement and you have no skills to deal with people and the real world.
>>98469089Narratively: Don't feel pressured to make things high stakes or part of some broader plot. A turf fight can just be a turf fight.Mechanically:- Have the Range DV Table handy- Remember that people don't tend to fight to the death- If your players are in LAJ, make sure some mooks have 5d6 weapons or melee weapons- Facedowns are great to let the Face characters flex
>>98469749I imagine they're like the towns you see in Westerns and post-apocalyptic movies, just with cyberpunk florishes here and there.
>>98469749Probably no towns of note left that aren't company towns dedicated to shit they can't centralise into the cities for synergistic effects (say, mining) or shit they want to keep out of sight. Beyond that the jobs are gone and the land is ruined so a major settlement won't be able to sustain itself on freelance agriculture.
Is there a mega with all the current red releases? Or MF link, whatever.
>>98471259Nah, Reclaimer towns.
>>98469374>>98470410Vanilla Red is a middling game that can be substantially improved via homebrew.Unfortunately Red's Homebrew policy is fairly restrictive, even compared to other TTRPG publishers. I don't think pointing any of this out is controversial.R.Tal as a publisher operate in a very insular way. Instead of doing free playtests they release their paid jumpstart kits which limit how much unbiased feedback they get. Their release schedule is incredibly slow and bogged down by all the random piece meal DLCs they committed to releasing. What actually gets released as a paid book is often of middling quality and they focus on releasing stuff like adventures and mini tie ins, which few people actually run and are mostly bought by fanboy whales that inhabit their Discord server.Like idk, people will defend R.Tal as very pro customer publisher (which tbf they do try to offer alot of value for money) but their work rate leaves alot to be desired and it's understandable that 6 years into it's run people have started to become frustrated. Especially since Cyberpunk has become such a big multimedia franchise that's grown far beyond being a quaint little TTRPG. Them having a bad homebrew policy on top of being a pretty mid publisher rubs alot of people the wrong way. It's like "we made a broken game but your ability to fix it is hampered because we don't want competition." It's really frustrating that they act like a cool indie company one minute and fucking WotC the next.Anyway I just wish their was another Cyberpunk themed TTRPG with good VTT support so I could ignore Red entirely. Personally I'm just fucking bored of the game. The corebook is a fucking mess with bad rules for some of it's core systems (combat, skills, leveling, gear). Homebrew can't fix that shit without writing a quasi new edition (like that Hunter/Seeker hack for 2020). Something I assume would've happened already if the Homebrew policy wasn't so Draconian.
RED becomes a whole lot better when ya don't got a bitch in ya ear tellin' ya it sucks.
>>98473469>Something I assume would've happened already if the Homebrew policy wasn't so Draconian.Homebrewers have never given a shit about The Official Policy, that's just for people who think they can get DTRPG money out of it. If people want to invest time into modifying Red for their playgroup, they'll do so regardless of whether R Tal complain about it.Remember when TSR's nickname was They Sue Regularly because of how much they went after fan shit on the internet? Didn't stop people doing it.
>>98473641Of course people will still homebrew, but sharing your homebrew is heavily restricted which is the whole problem.
>>98473524True, but I found a lot to homebrew even after playing it for just 6 months. >armors were the easiest, just nerf LAJ >add more cybernetics that actually do stuffRed has a great deal of info available and maps, enough to start a session just through improv. It's rules are enjoyable even if it feels like some things don't make sense (no scaling damage).
>>98474098Armor doesn't scale so why would damage scale?
>>98474098Red is like a Bethesda Game. It's easy to play and "bones" of it are good, but the more and more you play, the more its flaws become evident and you feel the need to fix things. The game is fairly easy to homebrew for, but too much homebrew makes the game unwieldy and changing any core systems too much tends to break the game. My takeaway from running and playing the game is broad but not very deep and often your fighting with a system that doesn't know if it wants to be a rules lite narrative game or a crunch heavy combat focused game. It's good for short campaigns, but doesn't have that much staying power due to how easy the combat is and how weak the leveling/progression is.
>>98474145You don't get more damage from increasing body besides MA and strangulation, throwing. It would be nice to have melee weapons have at least some scaling from body.
>>98474074>be me, brilliant game writer>make best homebrew ever for system>studio rejects pitch>go sell it on DTRPG as an indie dev>outsells official rulebook>superiority proven>studio comes crawling back with job offers>wake up >sucking own dick in sleep again
>>98474098Part of why my table switched from Shadowrun to RED is that it's a lot easier to homebrew on top of a bare foundation than it is to rework existing systems. The DLC model works well for that, too - don't have to use what you don't need.
>>98474444The only one here sucking their own dick is you.
How does drugmaking work in RED?In 2020 making and selling drugs is so absurdly profitable, both with the unfinished corebook rules and especially with Interlock Unlimited, that's it's a wonder why anybody puts his ass on the line trying to heist some store instead of just making designer euphorics for corporate parties.Going by IU rules, assuming one chemist PC with tech 5, pharma 3 and chemistry 3 (so a pretty lousy college undergrad), you can make run of the mill legal smash at a ROI of 134% over the batch costs, using the most basic equipment possible (180eb initial investment). Even accounting (as the GM should) for tons of extra costs and some gangers paid for by the local supermarket trying to push you off, this is still pretty good and couldn't be more dangerous than infiltrating corporate towers to steal something or kill someone.
>>98475092A Techie can fabricate Drugs with basic tech, you could make several doses of Synth Coke a day. I believe with the Base building DLC a Med-tech can make drugs using the science skill?
>>98450935The powerscaling in the chromebooks really was something else.
>>98474074>sharing your homebrew is heavily restrictedJust post it, bro. rec.games.frp.cyberpunk, Datafortress, RPG.net, wherever you please.
>>98475541>You can't see it's too far away>I have interferometry>It's too close you can't see it clearly>I have interferometry>It went past in a flash you couldn't make it out>I have interferometry>There's too much going on you can't parse it>I have interferometry>The details are too small and intricate to make out>I have interferometry>His face is only a vague memory to you>I have interferometry
>>98475092>>98475134Tech Fabrication is objectively the best way to get money. A Maker 4 Tech with a Base 14 Weaponstech skill can make 350eb a week just by pumping out Costly items - materials cost 50, sell for 100 (or 110 if you have a Fixer 4), every day. With the Workshop HQ upgrade, double that since you can do two projects at once. Compare that to the average Tech hustle being 100eb a week at chargen. So, why wouldn't a Tech just sit down and pump out Synthcoke instead of doing dangerous Edgerunner jobs? Well, look to Breaking Bad - if some gonk sets up shop and starts pushing drugs, odds are the local gang that controls drugs in that neighborhood is gonna get pissed. Same goes for other stuff - it's a good way to become the target of a "competing tech is cutting in on my turf, send a message" gig you'd give a new crew.
>>98476558It's also worth noting that manufacturing is subject to some serious business fuckery: Sourcing individual items and materials is easy enough within price levels, but bulk quantities of material begin to stretch believability: At that point you need a Fixer who can supply for you, and he by default has the ability to haggle you. Then unless you're selling out of a taco truck (I don't recommend it) you need him or someone similar to take your product and distribute it (but lets be real, it's going to be the same guy). That means that if he's a basic bitch R4 Fixer:- He'll haggle you to 10% extra on your materials when you buy them from him- He'll haggle you to 10% off your output when you sell to him- He could instead haggle also a bulk deal of 'buy 5, get 1 free'; as the person with the leverage in the transaction, he'll likely not accept less than that amount, or if the Referee is particularly greedy (he has no reason not to be), he'll only accept exactly 6 doses at a time for the price of 5. He'll run the numbers to see if this is better; generally at rank 4 it is.Overall, you'll get your margins ground badly; Using the weaponstech example, the real prices (assuming the fixer doesn't fail his haggle checks; his net skill will be 4 higher than yours with the same investment and could be astronomical if you haven't spent points into it). Using your example, you're now buying for 60, selling for 90. That pops you down to 210 eddies a week, multiplied by your number of benches (and assuming you use them for nothing else). On top of that supply over demand doesn't do you any good if you can't source more demand. Even if you triple your output with a fully upgraded HQ and are making 630 eddies a week, you can only do that if your Fixer contacts will accept your output. So when it's said and done, break bad spending all your waking hours cooking for half a grand a week, or do a job and make that in two, maybe three hours, less any ammo you shoot.
>>98476627Well put.Tl;dr: The Fabrication rules are tuned to work for when you're the Gadget Guy in an action movie. If you're trying to play Small Business Simulator 2045, you need to use different rules.
>>98476558In our game, the party used the Fabrication rules to set up an illegal weapons manufacture and then spent some missions on protecting the business from cops, gangs and rival Fixers. It turned into a nice subplot.
>>98475789>a bunch of obscure sites with limited reachYou'd be better off posting it here desu.
>>98476558>>98476627RAW you don't need a Fixer to buy the materials or sell Synthcoke. Really any player, even those without Tech levels can make easy money doing it since the DV to craft Synthcoke is so low and it takes such little time. If the GM wants to add restrictions or consequences to the buying and selling of stuff they can, but there's nothing explicitly in the rules to state you need a Fixer to sell Synthcoke or that selling it is going to cause reprisals.
>>98474444You keep suggesting that the goal behind anyone who wants to make and release content is to work for the studio? It shows how clueless you are about making art.The only thing I want out of making indie content is that people might read it, like it, and actually use it. That's why I hate on the home-brew policy so much. Not being able to list anything "compatible with Cyberpunk RED" on the biggest marketplaces for RPG content reduces the chance that anyone discovers my work to near zero.I don't care about making money, I make bank with my day job. But spending time and effort on a supplement only to only have put it out into the void of a forum thread or Discord message makes it pointless. Items listed on DriveThru are always there and always discoverable. Nobody is going to see your forum post a week after it was made, and you can't (and shouldn't) keep spamming it for attention.
>>98478267You don't need a Fixer to sell Synthcoke/non-Premium items, but if there's a player Fixer in the crew it's basically free money to let them sell anything and pocket the 10% extra (which also protects against the buyer being a Fixer applying their 10% against you).>even those without Tech levelsYou need at least one rank in Tech to use Maker Expertise: Fabrication, but yeah DV17 is pretty easy to beat with Base 14 and the cooldown is only a half day.>restrictions or consequencesThere aren't hard, RAW "If X then Y consequences" rules, but that kinda gets into the realm of the book not spelling out the GM's job. But also, I don't think it's so much "reprisals" as "plot response" - the GM isn't PUNISHING the Techs sitting around and pumping out goods, rather adjusting the game so that the conflict/obstacles arise from that behavior vs. "A fixer calls you for a job that's narratively independent of anything you're doing." The alternative is that the game is just... sitting around watching EB go up.
Edgerunners book, is it possible to put some sleeper agent stuff in someone's neiroport? Netrunner roles are a bit abstract to me, but the existence of quick hacks seem to imply there is a brainscape to 'hack' on.
>>98479006Braindances did the same thing, just not as directly.>RazIn hindsight, that is obvious for a netrunner idea. Shame about how 2 ended up.
>>98479006CEMK doesn't cover any Netrunner stuff outside of the basics and quickhacks. If I were your Ref what you'll probably be looking at is a "Virus" effect planted on their neuroport; which generally is a difficult DV and takes a relatively long amount of time. It'd be easiest to do it to someone unconscious or sleeping without alerting them.
>>98478792>The alternative is that the game is just... sitting around watching EB go up.Crafting synthcoke is just something you do in down time to make extra money. Any game that devolves into the PCs just sitting around doing downtime activities gets boring fast.
Did RoF 5 mean anything in the 2013 version of the rules? I've been going through some of the older books (SoF 1 to be precise) and a few of the guns have that. As I understand, the MAC10 having rof 5 is a printing error and it's supposed to be rof 25. Is that the same case, a typo, or did it actually have some purpose that didn't carry over into 2020?
>>98479006>>98479055No reason why not. CEMK incompleteness aside, a neuroport is like a NetArch - there's a bottom floor, and you can put a Virus on the bottom floor of a NetArch. What that virus can DO is gonna be a question for the ref. Permanently messing with their HUD? Easy. Tapping their Neuroport so you can eavesdrop their calls? Reasonable. Disabling their bio monitor to prevent TT response? Harder. Puppetting cyberware or a GITS-style ghosthack? That's gonna be huge.
>be small company>invent gadget>file a patent: describe in full how the gadget works, with blueprints etc, file it away to be uploaded to the patent database>big bad megacorp, browsing said database:"Thanks buddy!">just uses my full description of my gadget as it wants, knowing full well there exists no authority who could police patent use, at least on an international scale>be the idiot small company again; all the other companies now make fun of me for just making my blueprints etc public, no company with two brain cells gives away its docs to a patent database in this world, it's a trapDo patents exist in Cyberpunk?
>>98481225>Do patents exist in Cyberpunk?I guess yes. But of course, the enforcement is always the issue.
I've tried watching videos talking about the Cyberpunk Red economy and I still don't get it. How the hell are players supposed to afford anything in the "luxury" category without having an insanely long campaign, especially if their guideline is "2000 eb per player or someone else will just do it." On top of rent, equipment, and medical care to get by. I get that it's Cyberpunk and things are hard to come by in the world but it feels like there are large portions of the game that are just simply inaccessible without a GM giving the players handouts.
>>98482663Mission payouts aren't the players only source of income. A lot of what an edgerunner makes is what they loot during gigs. Get into a shoot out with a boostergang while protecting a client? Take the guns off their corpses and sell them. Doing a heist on a corporation? Might as well have your netrunner hack their corporate wallets while you're in the building.
So, Volgarena, I guess the new GITS wanted to avoid real world countries names, even if they are paper-thing, to avoid controversy. I wonder how they will call the US, Imperial American doesn't seem likely.
>>98475092Gangs don't like you selling on their turf. They might kidnap the drug cook or kill everyone involved. Similar story for weapon manufacturing if you sell to their competition.
>>98445954While my stuff is usually themed around something, really what is not? Point taken.>CounterpointKillbook, GM toolkit are arguably pretty good for every table.>>98455914Sorry Anon my time past heat death of the universe is already set for Mutants Rising>Get realWe will see, I do adore the system, and probably will have some inspiration from reading it. >>98482683Appreciate the response. My impression was that the system kind of discouraged the "looting and selling" loop because you have people like James Hutt going on record saying that unless they are corpo funded goons, they should have poor quality items to "manage economy".Stealing from corpo execs work well as well but wouldn't that trigger the full might of a corp over an extra 2000 eddies?
>>98483557By that he means they shouldn't have items above 100 eb on them, unless they're explicitly well equipped people. IE corpos, rivals Edgerunners, a serious Mafia outfit, etc. Because the average person in Night city can't afford a 500 eb standard quality rifle. Every Mook will typically have a 250 eb in equipment on them however.Poor quality rifle, Heavy/very heavy pistol, then their Kelvar vest. If a group of enemies all have standard quality rifles, your players would make 2,000 ebs for killing four guys, on rifles alone. Is what that means.
>>98445712>>98446883I understood that the 300ebs are to upgrade your cyberhand. The x3 is the cost of having a new hand. Isn't a regular hand 150eb? So buying a hand and later making it compatible with smartguns would be 450, or x3 the normal price.
>>98483640This. I also recommend limiting looting opportunities by gig design and always cheating the players a little in character when they try to fence equipment. It encourages players to prioritize gear they want and will use instead of just picking up everything that's not nailed down.If you knock over a gang stronghold; have NCPD or the local peacekeeping org on the way when the shooting stops to steal the credit. You then either have the choice of stuffing whatever will fit in two (or three) duffel bags, throwing it in the van and getting out of dodge, or sticking around to get your shit confiscated or having to pick a fight. It speeds up pace, maintains tension until a proper get-away and prevents problems like "why don't we tow all the gangster's cars and sell them for a quarter million eddies".
>>98476713>>98476627Yeah this is very different to IU in which you can make like 20k per week producing not!xanax in a roadhome turned into a lab for 1k initial investment.
>>98483640>>98483732Official materials are full of NPCs that break these rules. Giving most of the enemies shitty gear makes the game too easy and the economy too strict.
>>98484036>makes the game too easy? How so? There's no difference between poor and standard quality guns apart from their 1 in 10 chance to jam. Otherwise they're mechanically identical. So giving enemies poor quality variants of weapons doesn't change balance. Are you referring to armor? Giving mooks Light armor jack, would just make them too tanky. On the economy, I don't know 250 Eb per mook is pretty good, I tend to throw these guys at players in mass, so that adds up.
>>98484036Which ones? I scanned through DGD - virtually every Hardened Mook and below is using PQ/100eb weapons and gear. There are three Hardened Mook in DGD with LAJ or higher: Gustav the Dog (LAJ), Swirl the Nomad (Skinweave), and Paddles the TT MEdic (MAJ).Four Hardened Mooks total have non-PQ weaponry: two Nomads (Pneumatic Rifle and Heavy Pistol), Gustav the Dog (Combat Jaw), and Tetra (the kid with a rocket launcher).Same for the core book - everyone's on cheap weapons until you get to upper-tier LTs. And as anon mentioned, PQ weapons only matter for the 10% jam rate.
>>98485295>>98486094Anybody else think Red would be a better game if they dropped this weird bespoke system of mooks, lieutenants, bosses and just added challenge ratings like a normal game?Anyway my point was if you follow Red's balance guidelines 1:1, the game is pretty boring and easy. Alot of Lieutenants/Bosses aren't much stronger than Mooks and having more variety of tactics/gear makes the game more interesting and combat more rewarding.
>>98486989Challenge Rating has been a critically flawed system since its inception; you would be trading a system (mook/lt/miniboss/boss and hardening) that requires the Ref to moderate it with a system that pretends to do more than it does and still requires the Ref to moderate it.
>>98483680>The x3 is the cost of having a new hand. Isn't a regular hand 150eb? So buying a hand and later making it compatible with smartguns would be 450, or x3 the normal priceI don't think that is what it's saying. In 2020 when you want to upgrade a weapon to a normal smartgun (i.e smartgun link to plugs to neural interface) you pay 2x its normal price. What it seems like is being said for the smartplate is that when you want to create a compatible smartgun weapon upgrade with it you have to pay 3x the weapon cost instead of 2x. But otherwise its base cost of 300 will cover the upgrade of one of your existing weapons.
>>98483640Gotcha, thanks for the advice! So, with that in mind, should I treat stuff like the super luxury vehicles in Black Chrome as end game Nomad stuff with their access ability? I can't see how a normal Edgerunner would be able to afford it otherwise.
>>98487937The five finger discount beckons.
>>98486989>Gets counterpointed>Switch focus immidiatelyMany such cases
bros, I know little about Cyberpunk (the universe, not the genre) outside of 2077. From what I understand, there's a common misconception that Adam Smasher is the strongest enemy in tabletop and is used as a "fuck you, game's over" ending, whereas he can actually be beaten without extreme difficulty by a late-game party. But I once read a post about an enemy that really is practically unbeatable, and if I remember correctly it was a helicopter-like gunship. Do you guys know what I'm talking about? I don't even play tabletop, but I tried looking it up recently and couldn't find it and now it's bothering me.
>>98488870In tabletop RPGs you can set the stats of an enemy any way you'd like, you can have someone's health be one bajillion, and it'd be within the rules. You can make them have an ability that says "This guy can never die no matter what" and that would also be within the rules. Adam Smasher as statted in the official material for Cyberpunk 2020 he is quite tough, but not unbeatable, and what diegetically makes him tough is that he is backed by a security firm that will deploy him alongside other equivalently dangerous people using modern military vehicles. His claim to fame is that he's a joke character who instead of avoiding collateral damage; actively seeks it out. There are several attack helicopters, VTOL capable attack shuttles, and heavy ground vehicles that surpass his stats by a lot. For example a basic AV-6 Combat Aerodyne is has only two points of armour less than Smasher in his full battle rattle, and it can fire while moving at a speed so great that reasonably you are unable to hit it at all unless you use a dedicated anti-aircraft gun. So it could be any vehicle, really. Throw a dart on a vehicle list and you'll find something that moves like a racecar and shoots like a tank.If you want to look it up yourself, consider the following publications:Maximum MetalFirestorm StormfrontFirestorm ShockwaveChromebooks 1, 2, 3, and 4or just look it up on the 2077 wiki because it is astoundingly well-stockedhttps://cyberpunk.fandom.com/wiki/Cyberpunk_2020_VehiclesTL;DR- "Could X beat Y" is Calvinball, there's nothing to obsess over.
>>98488870You could just shoot Smasher with an Anti-Tank gun and be done with him, fairly easily.Even a Borg is but a man when someone pulls out 20mm depleted uranium rounds.
>>98486989>weird bespoke system of mooks, lieutenants, bossesEvery organization has these ranks in some fashion irl.
>>98488870Your description sounds like the Dragon helicopter, even it's text blurb describes it as the fuck you, game's over button
>>98488178>don't address the argument at all andMy point was always that Red's balance guidelines skew towards the game being too easy and loot being unrewarding, so you don't need to adhere to them too strictly. Read them sure, but it's more in the realm of GM advice than hard rules you have to follow.>>98487250>>98489040Wasn't the current system designed by a fan because there was initially no way to gauge challenge? Also R.Tal change their mind about balance frequently. How old was that video >>98482663 was talking about?
>>98487937The game isn't written for normal people to own cars at all; Nomad's don't really need any of the Black chrome vehicles, because if they wanted them, they could easily add the upgrades themselves. Giving them the premade ones, just gives them free reign to make Super vehicles, because then they could stack vehicle upgrades on top of the pre-existing upgrades. It's one of the glaring unpopular mechanics of the system, because for the most part vehicles are just fluff players can see, but not use unless they're a nomad.
>>98488926Neat >>98489114That's it for sure, thanks. I see why I couldn't find it, I didn't realize it's a niche thing (or at least seems to be). Does this ever get used? Is it actually that dangerous (those stats mean nothing to me)?
>>98490255SP of 90 basically means it's immune to all damage apart from Armor piercing Anti-Tank/Aircraft weaponry. And it can take up to 400 damage (SDP is vehicle/object HP.) It's just a Boeing CH-47 Chinook with some 20mm guns attached to it. So the amount of troops inside of it to be deployed is also a threat.
Wait, CybRed finally ditched the standardized prices for everything?
>>98490857Kinda sorta. There are more items now with prices that don't specifically match the Price Categories.
>>98455914>Very nice. Drones are underused.I use drones the way they are used in Cyberpunk 2077. Not sure how canonical that is- but cops use drones, special forces use them and corps guard their spaces with them.>no sleep, can't be seduced>There's no quickhacks yet
>>98490255As the other guy said 90sp is basically untouchable especially when going over 300mph. And it has 8 hardpoints for anything ranging from automatic grenade launchers to rocket packs to miniguns to 30mm autocannons. I've never seen it used, but I also haven't played in that many games unfortunately, and never done enough in said games to warrant the Ref whipping it out. Basically any vehicle though can be a death sentence for a party, Trauma Team vehicles in the core book are described as having miniguns and there's a non insignificant chance they'll use them on you
>>98490857They're slowly moving away from the stupid Monopoly money system and are treating Price Categories more like Availabilty. So, for example, an item can be cheap but difficult to source or expensive but relatively easy to acquire (i.e., you don't need a Fixer). This is a good change.
>>98482663GM will have to offer a big gig for the crew so that they are initiated into the big leagues. It's a classic thing. Night City merc life isn't Farmville.
How do you 2020 people handle, if at all, the weird roles from the firestorm books like pic?
>>98489287Gotcha, gotcha, yeah, it's super unfortunate because it feels so weird to take up pages to include a bunch of "This shit would be cool, wouldn't it? To bad it's not intended for you broke-y" when there could be inclusions of more interesting cyberware or weapons. But I know complaining about the system has been done to death on this board. Just very unfortunate feelink like several people are trying to pull this game in different directions.>>98489143This was an amalgam of a couple different videos/interviews. I think that quote in particular was from 3-4 years ago.>>98493759Again, goes into the "How do I avoid just GM handouts" while also ensuring the players can get access to some of the flashier stuff. I get it's cyberpunk and it's supposed to be a struggle but flashiness is baked into the tenants as well.
running a game for people who never tried saibapunk beforeeveryone recommends red chrome as an intro adventurer but my players are all unashamed edge runner/video game fansyou can just port over the events of red chrome cargo to 2077, or do you need special adjustments for characters and enemies?
>>98427977So I'm making a character for RED. Nomad background, big focus on martial arts and fairly borged up(linear frame sigma and all that). I thought it would be interesting to try Kendo from the splat book that came out and go full weeb. But I'm looking into it and apparently kendo and a hybrid melee/MA build is just shit in general?I know style over substance and all that, but I want to make a character that runs well. Do any anons have suggestions on how I could make this work? Should I go for another MA? I initially went melee hybrid because I like the thought of being able to upgrade gear, instead of being capped at fist damage all game.
>>98494446Firstly, you are incorrect. Hybrid MAs are pretty good and Kendo is one of the better ones. In addition to allowing you to negate ranged attacks with REF lower than 8, Cut the Bullet also fully negates grenades at you instead of just jumping out of the blast radius. Slower allies nearby will thank you.Ki Ken Tai No Ichi at first glance might not look all that good, but it gives you the option of loading up for an aimed shot on your next turn even when out of line of sight of enemies.Kendo also lets you be swinging with your MA skill and dice at ROF2 even with a Very Heavy Melee in hand, giving you some flexibility. You could of course frame up to a 4d6 MA die, but you wouldn't necessarily have to; you'd be doing enough as is.A number of other martial arts can also synergize if you're willing to invest that much into it. If you have Arasakete, or example, you can set up KKTNI, then if you fail to cut an incoming attack, you'll be able to test Counter strike and swing a called shot at only a -3 penalty. Take that with a Mono-Three, for example, and you can go headtaking with relative ease.If you want to be funny though, you can do it with a Kleaver.
>>98494446You absolutely don't need the "meta" of linear frame martial artist to have a character that plays well. RED gives a lot at chargen and you would have to actively sabotage yourself to end up with something unplayable. No need for minmaxing damage.Go with the theme that entices you, it's that shrimple.
>>98494592>>98494649I like the flavour, but I'm already bought in on a Linear Frame in chargen. With that in mind am I wasting my time with kendo? I can't really unborg my guy at this point, since I already did all that stuff during session 0. But I can rethink my MA.Worth noting his reflex is high enough to dodge bullets, so my thought was hypothetically I could dodge and then attempt to parry if it fails. I also like the flavour of hacking limbs off like Raiden from MGR but I'm not too sure a called shot lets me do that.
>>98494668You can break legs with called shots to the leg, but called shots to the arms normally just make them drop something. Still 4d6 dice gives you really good crit potential and certain melee weapons will make that even more effective. You can't Cut the Bullet and attempt to dodge the same attack; but there are fringe benefits to it:- negating the attack instead of avoiding them means grenades and rockets that are 'cut' don't explode; you are also not required to move out of the radius- smart ammo won't get another pass at you if you 'cut' it as the attack is negated and did not 'miss'- REF reductions won't keep you from using 'cut' on attacks, though WILL reductions wouldIf you've got a frame already the good news is that using your MA attack profile is a solid 4d6 ROF2 halving armor, so as long as you have a melee weapon in hand you have full access to your MA's entire skillset (RAW, a butter knife will do just fine, but check with your Ref).
>>98494774Hmmm, so do you think I should choose another MA with that in mind? Is Kendo the only hybrid melee MA?
>>98494848The aforementioned Arasaka-te is more of an all-rounder that works with Melee weapons rather than having a focus on it. Only one of it's abilities is offensive, the other being a utility option.Arnis is Light/Medium Melee focused with the added benefit of being focused on fucking with other melee combatants (disarming or tearing muscles to make them worse at melee).Militech Commando Training is Light/Medium focused; kinda. It's another disarm function with the added niche of just being able to slap someone with their own butter knife for 4d6.Thamoc is mostly grapple violence, but if you wanna stab someone you've grabbed it'll make it easier.I'd stick with Kendo for your concept and, money allowing, pick any of the Kendachi katanas, a Kleaver or the Weeping Reaver. Generally your choice in melee weapon comes down to a utility effect with that much sauce in just your frame and MA. In my game my character gets the most damage out of Judo attacks, but she has a pair of Thermal Daggers to use to light enemies on fire as DoT and soft-CC; so she's generally using both.
>>98494446Kendo is alright if you're not going for a Ref 8/Body 12 build, otherwise it's abilities are a bit redundant. I'd recommend going for Gun Fu or Jujutsu for a standard MA set up, but really anything works because MA is stupidly strong by default.
>>98494974>>98494924I rolled for stats and got REF8, so I'm going to have to give up my bushido dreams, much as it pains my inner weeb. I wish the RED guys had done better, because a lot of these MAs I'm reading in the book are kinda underwhelming.Kung Fu seems fun, though. I know Jujutsu is the best mechanically but I'm not sure I love the flavour of rolling around on the floor doing joint locks instead of hitting guys.
>>98494358>Again, goes into the "How do I avoid just GM handouts"Why would you want to be able to work a 9-5 or off-screen and reach status and prestige? In the world of Cyberpunk you are meant to be on the edge.
>>98493877Added "Combat Sneak" as a valid skill people could pick, no one did, it never came up again.
>>98494362If you want to run 77 over Red I'd recommend using 2020, but fundamentally yes. If you want to run 77 in Red you just toss out the accessibility rules, make the city be the one from the game, ignore all mentions of mad max inside city limits; and then you play it as is. Enemies are in no way different between Red and 77 because 77 doesn't have rules, there is no 77 sourcebook.
>>98493877>"hide/evade" skill>there is already stealth skill which you have to sink 2x cost intogenuinely what was the thought process behind this?
>>98495605Even in the core book there is a lot of weird skill overlap. Fencing and melee, athletics and swimming and heavy weapons surprisingly since athletics covers throwing and grenades are listed as heavy.
>>98494362>>98495561The CEMK does suggest that for 2077 you ditch availability, but DOUBLE all listed prices; at least for anything you buy retail. For more reasonable prices, you need to get a fixer or night market; so you still have a lot of reason to be frugal and network.
Does a post-apocalyptic AI uprising setting eg. Terminator count as cyberpunk? Or does a cyberpunk setting have to take place in an urban or at least semi-functional society?
>>98497908Punk is largely defined by class and wealth disparity; so a complete apocalypse like the future in Terminator doesn't apply. That being said, the threat of Old Net AIs and the existence of the Blackwall in 2077 is entirely a result of an ongoing cold-war between mankind and the incredibly intelligent and alien computer intelligences that inhabit that space. A setting where this war is more physical, or even a future of Cyberpunk where that war goes hot is fair game; but don't forget that "-punk" is defined by rebellion against oppression and disparity, if you're cool cyborg super soldiers smashing robots you can be playing a really fun game and there's nothing wrong with it, it's just not really Cyberpunk. Now dodging the draft from the 2100s hyperwar in Belgium after an AI collective has been sweeping through the Eurozone? We're back to Cyberpunk; even getting pressed into it against your will is thematically close.
>>98497908>Does a post-apocalyptic AI uprising setting eg. Terminator count as cyberpunk? No>Or does a cyberpunk setting have to take place in an urban or at least semi-functional society?Nohttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyberpunk
>>98497885Doubled prices aligns more with the prices V has in the game, so that's accurate.
>>98497908Gibson's take is that in cyberpunk, the Apocalypse takes place over the course of decades or even centuries. So if you want a Terminator uprising, it's gonna have to be a slow and erratic one with lots of back and forth, not a JUDGEMENT DAY.
>>98494358>"This shit would be cool, wouldn't it? To bad it's not intended for you broke-yThey're supposed to be Loot/we quest rewards is the official justification, iirc. There's a lot of dumb overpriced stuff, RED probably needs a Blackhand's street weapons/Maximum metal book that just republish all the vehicle and weapon stat blocks and readjusts the prices. And updates them to SOF 45 style weapons.
>>98498255Assuming the world of cyberpunk isn't already taken over by the AI as it calibrates the world to its vision using the economy and human institutions to rule over its predecessors. All the corporations would work for this gangster AI whether they know it or not.
>>98497937>Punk is largely defined by class and wealth disparityIt is defined by attitude.
>>98498737Do you think saying such an insipid un-thought with confidence lends it any credibility?
>>98497908So long as the post-apocalyptic world is recognizably cyberpunk, yeah its cyberpunk. See the Matrix, just as one example.Terminator specifically has alot of the earmarks of cyberpunk but drifts heavily towards science fiction due to the time-travel angle. Its story is told within a contemporary setting that is not intended to be futuristic, rather a malevolent future attempts to destroy the past. For that reason its normally placed in the science fiction camp. That said cyberpunk as a genre obviously owes a lot of its style to the image of merciless robo-assassin Arnold chasing Sarah Connor through the city
>>98498737>>98498748Arguing over the definition of punk is a time-honored punk tradition.
>>98494592>no guys Kendo is totally good because uhhhh >sidegrade to Evasion that still requires you to take Evasion>slight buff to VHMWs (still dogshit compared to ILF MA)>and don't forget punching people is still better than using your sword!
>>98499858You don't need to take Evasion with Kendo. I recommend reading my posts fully and understanding before trying to do the whole stuttering retard meme. Otherwise you come off as an illiterate.
>>98494993MAs are unfortunately carried by (and balanced on) their access to concealable 3/4d6 ROF 2 halve-SP attacks, and most moves are side benefits you get except for the 3-5 MAs they accidentally made fun. It's boring but the fact of the matter is the skill would still be one of the strongest options in the game if no distinct styles existed and it just gave the attacks without any moves.
>>98499879You do in fact need to take Evasion on a Kendo build because Cut The Bullet can't block melee attacks. It's not terribly surprising you wouldn't understand this since your defenses of the MA seem to be predicated on not actually having played it.
>>98499905If you're splashing Arasake-Te like I suggested, you don't want to have too high evasion because you want some hits to go through for Counter Strike. A base level investment is satisfactory; after all your DEX is already 8. 4 to 6 ranks is plenty.Your solution to being hit in melee is to aimed shot them at +3/+5 or to simply 4d6 ROF2 them and show them how its done.Is there anything else you need me to explain or do you think you can read the rest on your own?
>>98499892>and most moves are side benefits you get except for the 3-5 MAs they accidentally made funI never played 2020 but were MAs this mechanically boring in that game?
>>984999286 ranks is the max at char-gen lol. Proving my point.Spending additional points on Arasake-Te to chase more Aimed Shots is throwing good money after bad. I'd like you to clarify what you meant by >If you have Arasakete[sic], or[sic] example, you can set up KKTNI, then if you fail to cut an incoming attack, you'll be able to test Counter strike[sic]Sure sounds like you're misunderstanding how one or both of these MAs work, since failing Cut The Bullet only happens if you're targeted by an attack that Counter Strike cannot be used against.
>>98499951Well fuck, looks like he can read after all. Now if he could only think he'd almost be able to have fun.
>>98499928>>98499951"If you get hit, just attack them back" or you could pump Evasion to +14 (as you yourself suggest) and just not get hit and attack back anyways lmao. It's honestly kind of crazy to be openly mentioning the 4d6 ROF 2 as an option alongside the Aimed Shots; diehard Kendo glazers should probably stick to pretending ILFs are too expensive compared to a Mono-Katana so they can compared VHMW Aimed Shots to 3d6 MA strikes instead.
>>98499972*compare
>>98499971I'll take your total lack of counterpoint as concession. Best I'm going to get I suspect.>>98494446FWIW since you're all-in on the ILF already and rolled REF 8, that does set you up nicely for using the lategame ranged weapons that require BODY 11+. I'd probably recommend keeping the MA, then taking Shoulder Arms since it's a 1x skill and shouldn't stretch your budget more than what Melee Weapons would have. The MA can be your primary game plan while using an AR for potshots; having both is nice in case you encounter scenarios where you can't reach your targets at all or where open-carrying rifles isn't feasible. Lategame, there are a lot of good options, but it's hard to go wrong with a Hurricane Assault (although it's a bit rough at longer ranges unless SOF range attachments are allowed -- keep in mind ROF 2 partially compensates for lower accuracy relative to a normal AR); if you want concealable ranged attacks there's the popup shotgun, which is not amazing but the best Shoulder Arms gets, as far as I know.
>>98500011Since I'm also playing a Nomad I can also mount weapons on my car when not in use, too. I haven't really looked into Shoulder and Heavy weapons. What are some standouts I should consider? Was thinking a minigun or something.
Has RED ever done anything about biotech? Or is it still just chrome as far as body augmentation goes?
>>98500275Interface Volume 2 has an article about exotics, aka how to turn your character into a furry. There's also a few augments that are considered bioware rather than cyberware, like muscle grafts and enhanced antibodies, though this is more a lore distinction than a gameplay one (they're just treated as cyberware by the rules).
>>98500106Militech Cowboy grenade launcher is the best one you can get with your Vehicle heavy weapon mount, you can deal 12d6 damage a turn (6d6 ROF 2).The tsunami arm Helix requires Autofire (To be good with mounted MGs, you'd need both high Autofire and Heavy weapons.) and The Railgun is just a rifle that ignores SP under 11 SP. So if you want optimal crowd control the Cowboy is where it's at.
>>985005926d6? Back in 2020 25mm grenades were kind of weak desu, did they change that in RED?
>>98500650RED doesn't have different Grenade launcher calibers, all grenades deal 6d6 damage for 100 eb each.
Bump
What editions and books would you recommend for newcomers? And are Humanity/Empathy losses permanent if you don't disconnect the cyberware, or temporary ones that you could be theoretically overcome in a less unforgiving world (I think there's therapy, although I'm not sure if it's only for if you want to get rid of cyberware or not - and of course I'm guessing it costs quite a bit in time and money)? Is Humanity like losing a limb in that once it's gone it's gone for good or is it like having it in a cast for years and needing a ton of physical therapy to even barely use it much less to get it back in shape again?
>>98508535The two relevant versions of Cyberpunk are 2020 and Red. Red is the newest version and it's designed to be more streamlined and easier for new players, so I'd recommend that.In Red, it's a bit of both for humanity loss. A typical piece of cyberware makes you lose 2d6 humanity and reduces your max humanity score by 2. You can recover the 2d6 you lost by going to therapy, but as long as you have that cyberware installed, your maximum score will always be reduced by 2. You need a week of downtime to get therapy and it will cost you 1000 eddies (which is your entire paycheck for a standard difficulty mission).
>>98508535I can only speak to RED since it's what I'm more familiar with, but I'll give you the short humanity brainwashing.Humanity is measured both with a current value and a maximum value and a number of things affect both:Current Humanity is initially determined by the EMP stat and is lowered by installing new cyberware, being in traumatic situations and by some drug use. Reductions to current humanity are called Humanity Loss. The 10s place of your Current Humanity is a cap on your EMP stat for skill rolls.Maximum Humanity is also initially decided by the MP stat lowered by having cyberware installed, a metric called Humanity Depression or Maximum Humanity Loss. You're capped 2 points of Maximum Humanity for each piece of cyberware or option installed that has a Humanity cost or 4 points of Maximum Humanity for each piece of borgware. Since it semi-permanently lowers your Humanity, a large amount of Humanity Depression is also a cap on your EMP.Current Humanity can be raised with therapy, some (kinda dangerous) drugs and stable, comfortable living. Humanity Loss from Cyberware can also be reduced by a specific Tech upgrade for the ware before it's installed. Humanity Depression can also be reduced by the Foundational Tuning Tech Upgrade by a Tech, but it is expensive and time-consuming.RAW, restoring Humanity from Humanity Loss takes weeks with intensive (and pricey) therapy or a few months with time, space and stability. Also RAW, recovering from injury including PT is rarely more than a week long affair; it's kind of fast and loose, but it's preferable to being out of commission for a year following one bad gunfight.TL;DR: You have a humanity score and a humanity cap; attached cyberware reduces your cap, installed cyberware lowers your score. Raising your score is relatively easy (if expensive and time consuming) but raising your cap is extremely expensive unless you just remove the ware.
>>98508535If you are looking for a game to play a campaign in, pick Red. If you are looking for a game to play for a while, pick 2020.
Now this isn't rtal cyberpunk, but there was this screencap I saw once of some other cyberpunk game on this implant that resembled a box with a bunch of tubes coming off it that took over all the functions of your torso organs as an emergency medical thing, but it mentioned how A. it basically turned the user into a zombie and B desperate people would just sell their organs for cash and get one implanted then run it way past it's intended lifespan.Anyone know that thing or what game it would be from? I wanted to see it again because I had some homebrew ideas
>>98438465To be honest, I hate reddit, and I've never posted there in my life. The general quality of human interaction there is positively subnormal.Even compared to having a shitpost-off with an insane troll on 4chan.
why doesn't arasaka just make a few hundred copies of their relic personality engrams? Like, surely if they had a hundred or even a few thousand adam smashers, they could steamroll the nusa and militech.
Did technology in the cyberpunk-verse actually improve, or is all the stuff in 2077 the same like in 2020, or worse, technology actually regressed?
>>98514991Relic 1.0 is just a dumb chatbot. They failed to make overwrite on a living subject. The Relic 2.0 prototype was engineered to overwrite a host body only after brain death. But it didn't work. V is a freak accident.
>>98515002It underwent a catastrophic mid-century regression following the 4th Corporate War, followed by decades of reconstruction. By 2077, technology has largely returned to the baseline levels seen in Cyberpunk 2020, but with key improvements in miniaturization and integration, paired with severe losses in global networking and industrial durability. In 2020, a Cyberdeck was a heavy, shoebox-sized or backpack-bound console wired to a decker. In 2077, a Cyberdeck is a microchip implanted directly into the user's neural port. Cyberware in general became smoother, lighter, and more seamless to install.
>>98515024Why not create clone bodies that the relics can then take over? Cloning technology does exist in the cyberpunk-verse, after all.
>>98515033Relic didn't work. Before V, all Relic experiments ended up in failure. V is the first of its kind.
>>98515033Hellman’s team couldn't get Relic 2.0 to take root in a living host. A functioning brain actively fought off the chip's nanites and neural rewriting.Testing on deceased subjects failed because dead brain tissue degraded before the chip could initiate a reboot.Somehow, when Dex fired into V's head with a low-calibre bullet, it made it work. Its nanites identified a death host. It immediately patched the destroyed brain cells before braintissue degraded, bridged the damaged neural pathways, and began rewriting V.
>>98515051If anything, the weirder part is why Saburo even bothers with Relic. Why not accept a digital existence? I guess ego, fear of being edited out, and some legal hurdles.
I sincerely hope you guys are doing your civic duty by bullying that one player who runs around with an exotic character.
You guys got any suggestions for tools for building up cyberpunk cities?I've got loads of copies of books to generate fantasy ones but very little for cyberpunk. Find it useful as a way of picking out interesting little details to add if nothing else.

>>98515002Yes, though not really in any way explained in detail.2020 is a setting where internet is novel even if VR. The NET is still conceptually BBS and phonelines, cellular and wireless isn't very common. People have to carry around literal modems they plug themselves into.2077 seems (imo) possibly inspired by Shadowrun 5E. There is no global net anymore but that doesn't stop literally everyone running around with their own personal nets, to keep their tech and implants compatible and running at peak efficiency or call friends on their brain installed smartphones. Netrunners are people with chips in their heads who've transformed their entire bodies into overclocked cpus to wirelessly fuck with other's personal nets. There's other things you can deduce from the frankly not very verbose info we have on the game's cyberware. Such as nanite/bioware potentially being a lot more common. Berserk implants seem to essentially a "nanomachines son" styled tech. Dense Marrow, Regenerating Skeleton, Titanium Infused Bones. Leg implants are noticeably more based around biomechanical augmentations than literal steel replacements

For example emp weapons project and patent is told to be recovered from old techtronika servers and made public, hence the 2045 have microwaver weapons being streettech, yet they dont use pulse guns (way more effective weaponry) from 2020 because those were never recovered despite being invented by the same company. There are a numerous cyberware pieces that werent yet converted to new standards (both in universe and rules wise), NET uses a new language kind of compatible with older programing, a patchwork language to umbrella all new codes that arose after global net died. At the same time 2045s have seen some tech advancement, notably rocklin made that one agent that transfers data directly to optical nerve without any actual cyberware, said to be a foundations for 2077s neuroport. 2077 chrome is more sleek, like anon before me mentioned, it's fuckton more advanced, bordering on magic for 2020 standards, and there is a instance of antigravvity in the show. The Antigravity is allegedely mentioned in 2077 to be used in these monstrous flying cargo ships, but Ive never found the source nor this info in the game.So yeah, tech, uh, finds a way.

Main problem was to make them different than the ACPA Danger Close upgrade (it launches ANY grenade on you and doesnt affect you) that was already present in Golden Chrome years ago, and I didnt want to make it for a third time, so I gave it a bit of a unique spin, and a boost that launches 2 and then 3 grenades at once, but it isnt combat oriented like ACPA one is (just tech upgrade it bro) Also it's reloaded for 500eb because I adore 500eb items and this way you get more bang for your buck (if installed 2 times) and is cost effective even at first tier (20% discount that will probably be offset by a fixer ripping you off).PS: Just like I told before - I just cant let RED go, I adore this system so much.

Anyone has a link to full item index in sheets format? Thank you
Am going crazy being 'No Gaems', does anyone have a Red game going on that needs a player?
>>98545122I haven't played or ran a game in almost four years, I'm thinking about cracking open my books and just making character sheets and test playing them for fun and relearning how to play.
If a character had one of these on each arm, would that tech bonus apply twice, giving them a +2?
>>98546636If the device was big enough to necessitate two hands I'd allow it, but how would you benefit from two if the device doesn't accommodate space for two large sized hands.
>>98433113>the subreddit literally homebrewing Shadowrun Red as we speak hates unofficial content
>>98440025>you can't beat the machineWelcome to systems with ongoing metaplots. There will never be an offical adventure that has you topple the evil powers that be. That ends the story. How can they sell you new campaigns in a fixed world?
>>98474444Who in the actual fuck is this strawman supposed to be based on?
>>98547751Where's Cyberpunk's metaplot? >INB4 the 4CW
Would Red be a better game if they did away with Range Tables and opposed Evasion rolls and just introduced bound accuracy? I don't know exactly how you'd balance it, but I'd assume a creature's Evasion Skill would form the basis of a value the Attacker has to beat, then things like Armor, Cyberware and Cover could add bonuses. You'd probably want the Evasion DVs to cap out in the low 20s so targets aren't impossible to hit. The current system is cumbersome and doesn't really offer any tactical depth. It just makes certain weapons worse than others and encourages players to dodge every turn slowing down play and making Range DVs kinda irrelevant most of the time.
>>98427977You know, I do like the eldritch horror vibe that Cyberpunk AIs have going on. But I'm a real sucker for the Tachikoma's desire to emulate humans.
>>98483027There's one thing from Maximum metal, that neither your Homebrew or Interface V converts for ACPAs, their weight, or how they interact with the world. Some basic rules like ACPA with a BOD above 13 cannot fit into vehicles, and fall through thin cover floors. Would've been pretty nice. These things weigh tons.
>>98551533You don't really need rules for that, just give them defined numbers for size and weight and apply logic.
>>98551359Define bound accuracy. The original 5e conception of it is that PCs' growth is driven (almost) entirely by damage/HP and class features rather than having BAB/AC increase as part of leveling up. This doesn't make sense in a CPR context because damage and HP are fixed in ways difficult to change without more radical changes to the system (and skills already don't go up at the pace of pre-5e editions' scaling; handing out 0 IP to your crew would still result in 14 Evasion PCs causing the issues you have). If you're frustrated by the extra rolls caused by bullet dodging, rolling 2d10 (treating 1s/10s the same per die, so rolling a 10 and a 7 would add 1d10 to the result, and rolling two 1s would subtract 2d10) against 11+Evasion is mathematically identical to the current opposed roll system. 1d10 against 5+Evasion gets you similar results with fewer dice rolled, but buffs whoever has the higher modifier (effect is weak/mixed within 2 points but noticeable at 3 or more). One more thing I'll say is that even without bullet dodging, certain weapons are straight worse than others by design. Call it style over substance, call it intended for NPCs, call it reasonable tradeoffs for saving 50eb.The broader handgun/shoulder arms split is based on the former being covert enough to carry into Corporate Zones and the like, but this depends on the GM actually enforcing consequences for open carrying ARs around the University District.
>>98551627The idea is to have a system like Armor Class, rather than having a constant opposed rolls or having to reference several different tables, every creature has an assigned value an attacker must beat to land an attack. This value can be subject to bonuses and penalties depending on the circumstance and be increased permanently via leveling+gear. It's baseline could be your Evasion and then buffed by Armor, Cyberware, Cover etc. But yeah, I'm not suggesting anybody attempt to add AC to Red as is. The game is balanced around it's current convoluted system for better or worse. I'm just speculating how you could rework rolling to hit, because I've never been a fan of the system.
>>98552210You remove bullet dodging.
In 2020, if someone say full autos at close range and it hits somewhere like an arm, and it does the required 8 damage to sever the limb what happens with the rest of the damage? Does it carry over? Does it just go into the severed limb?
>>98551359>would the game be more tactically interesting if all guns were equally capable at all ranges, to-hit rolls were skewed to success most of the time and EHP needed inflated into space to account for the massively decreased rounds-to-kill?No, completely obliterating any tactical decision-making and sanding the entire combat system flat would not make RED a better game.
Is there any properly constructed homebrew about a better Humanity system for RED?
>>98546636Is the character ambidextrous?
>>98551359I wouldn't call any of RED's combat cumbersome. It's a pretty streamlined game, and none of the games I ran had that much bullet dodging. Though if your issue is constant opposed rolls, then just remove the bullet dodge mechanic altogether. Or gatekeep it behind high-end cyberware that PCs have to work towards, and seldom few NPCs have.
>>98553255You roll hit location for every autofire shot that hits target.Damage is always taken directly to the players health track, the exception being if the hit target is a cyberlimb with its own sdp health value. The damage to sever a limb simply means you have to take at least that much damage to a limb in a single attack to lose it; i.e taking 50 damage to a limb also means you lose it and also means you're probably dead.>>98554907Yeah I would if anything consider it somewhat cut and dry system
>>98551533While I didnt made exact ruling for this - there are instances in my homebrew that reference the whole weight schtick (picrel). What you must understand (and it isnt anywhere in the doc) I've never wanted to be making a just another MM conversion, or to try to rewrite everything MM has to offer for a new ruleset. My idea was to make such rules in the spirit of the RED mechanics, and to me making them as vehicles was the best way I've seen fit. Separate crit table, new role and whatnot was just the icing on the cake.>Some basic rules like ACPA with a BOD above 13 cannot fit into vehicles, and fall through thin cover floors. There's you rule right there, it's a good one. Also for some insight, to me it was always obvious light frames can sit in vehicles, given how ridiculously big american cars are, and the fact that there exist no rule whatsoever about heavy armour (Flak/MG) or linear frames needing any special upgrade to fit in vehicles I'd say it seems to follow the spirit of RAW. I vaguely recall bikes needed frame reinforce for linear frame users, and omega frame might've had some mechanic about fitting to places, but Im not sure 100%. Im positive it was impossible to be concealed even as a borg, my guess would be they deliberately left it for a tech upgrade. As for medium frames I'd say it requires a heavy frame of the vehicle to be carried, and I'd say you need some bullshit tech upgraded seats to sit inside, maybe just make it take 2 seats? As for heavy frames I'd say it's straight up impossible.
>>98515745Besides the excellent CWN already mentioned, also check on "Augmented Reality" and "Darker Futures".
>>98556109
>>98552273Doesn't fix the issue of Red's range tables.
>>98554907>>98555335It's a simple system, but cumbersome in small ways. Rolling to Hit is an example of that.
>>98553276>No, completely obliterating any tactical decision-making and sanding the entire combat system flat would not make RED a better game. The Range tables don't really add much depth to the game. You mostly reference them when fighting with weak NPCs that can't dodge, but otherwise everyone who can will mostly default to Evasion. They also create alot of balance problems like Snipers being useless because they can't hit on a normal combat map or ARs being the best weapons overall because of their small DVs across the board.
>>98556429Those aren't balance problems though. Snipers are specialty weapons. Assault rifles are the primary weapons of every real world military for a reason. The downside of ARs is their cost and inability to be concealed, but it terms of firepower they are rightfully the strongest class of weapon.
>>98556429Range tables actually make Sniper rifles and long range weapons more effective? Being so far away that anyone who doesn't also have a Sniper rifle, Rocket launcher is the greatest protection because the DV is your protection, if you choose not to evade they can't retailate, without being cracked and having a base 16+ and even then some of those Long shots, are tough as hell.A sniper rifle has no short range benefits, what do you wanna quick scope like COD?Even in a cyberpunk game Sniper rifles don't have the benefit of being higher caliber, because a borg can use a cyborg rifle tha chambered in 300 WM.
>>98556553>>98557133Yes but most Cyberpunk combats take place on small maps where you can't even get into a Sniper Rifle's optimal Range. You're stuck with the retarded game logic of being a crack shot and not being able to hit a target right in front of you. Sniper Rifles essentially become narrative weapons that are useless in a real fight. It makes Sniper Rifles a noob trap like Heavy Armor.
>>98557489There is no explaining why these mechanics are the way they are to you, because you can not comprehend that there is a playstyle outside your own.
>>98557489Snipers can be a fun combat opener, even if you're not relying on narrative beats. As long as you have initiative, it's effective for ambushes, and you can start picking chooms off while the approach or are forced to take cover for your party to advance.
>>98557489I sort of agree with you; I think the Sniper Rifle DV is a little punishing (Especially since it's effective range is the exact same as the Assault rifle DV 15 at 51-100 meters. So you don't even have advantage at your optimal range vs standard enemies.) But that's more apart of the game's overall setting, what's the point of a sniper rifle as a standard carry in a CQC urban combat game? That's not really game logic, that's IRL logic. Making Sniper Rifles viable at close range would be gamification. The concept of Sniping is not really "fun" in a game context unless you're the sniper, because then you're stuck fighting an enemy you can't attack in return. (Or they're basically just one shot kill weapons also most Third person/First person shooters.)
You're telling me, sniping's not a good job?
>>98559172Inside in an apartment window, I guarantee you'll go hungry. Because as long as there's two people left on the planet, someone is gonna want someone to engage in a close quarters gunfight using only their whiteroom characters and employing no tactical depth.
>>98557489If you want to snipe people stop getting into fights in shoeboxes and closets. If you keep getting into fights in shoeboxes and closets, take a shotgun.Cyberpunk is not a dungeoncrawler. Plan jobs to account for your specialties. If you need sniper overwatch over a job site, find a highrise or hotel to smuggle your rifle into and get to work.
>>98557489why are you starting combat in said closed spaces, retard
>>98548927AI and mechanization devouring humanity. Humanity itself going through a major (cyber)psychosis event with the corporate structure and dissolution of all human identities, principles and desires. >Humanity denies its own core ideas>Humanity still grows in power and uses it to build heaven for itself>it's actually hell because of the denial, stubbornness and desire to win at all cost (turns out, the cost is everything)The meta-plot is so good it drives people towards this. It's like Aladdin's cave.
>>98547751>There will never be an offical adventure that has you topple the evil powers that be.There are ways to go about it, but it'd be Luke becoming the Emperor.
>>98557489There's something about sniper rifles that turn most people into retards when they get acknowledged
>>98561602Sniper rifles activate that part of your brain that makes you want to use a saw as a hammer.
>>98557650>>98557789Basically you use a Sniper in the exact way the devs intended or you go fuck yourself. There's no room for any flexibility, that's why I call it a noob trap. It's something that mainly fucks people with no game knowledge.>>98559813>>98560115Not my fault most of the cyberpunk combat themed combat maps I find online tend to be of enclosed spaces. It's not like the genre lends itself to tight urban conflict or Red's mechanics incentivize that kind of play by making close quarters combat OP.>>98561602The only retarded one is whoever decided that a precision weapon hitting someone at less than 50 meters requires you to be an expert, but hitting something at 800 meters is somehow way easier.
>>98559172It's certainly not a good weapon
>>98562516If you cannot imagine the spinning wumpa fruit of "You're in an unfinished highrise apartment on the seventh floor, 300m south of the parking lot; here is your line-of-sight to the mission area. On your turn you can take shots or act normally or take cover behind the stacks of building materials, but if you want to leave your hide it will take you some minutes to get to the battlemap.", then take a fucking shotgun and stop asking people to make the game stupid for you.
>>98562516It's not a noob trap unless you expected to be able to play a "sniper build" like you're a video game character. Sniper rifles are a tool that fills a niche, albeit not a niche you'll use on every mission. But snipers share the shoulder arms skill with shotguns and semi-auto assault rifles, which are great weapons in most scenarios, so its not like a noob who wanted to be a good sniper will end up useless. As for battlemaps, it's not Rtal's fault that map makers for VTT are uncreative.
>>98562551>dude just make a complex multi stage encounter to compensate for the fact that this one item is poorly implementedAlso Shotguns are equally fucked over by Red's DV tables. Like why bother with a weapon that's only good at point blank range when Melee options exist and are typically stronger?
>>98562588>It's not a noob trap unless you expected to be able to play a "sniper build" like you're a video game character.Yes it's not like that isn't a common trope noob players are going to naturally gravitate too. I've had to deal with multiple players absent mindedly spending a good chunk their starting cash on a weapon that's useless outside very specific scenarios. Usually this leads to the player losing interest or rolling a new character. Also Red's whole Range DV system is very "videogamey" in general, just in a somewhat obtuse and unfun way because the devs have a weird relationship with realism and a hard on for balance.>As for battlemaps, it's not Rtal's fault that map makers for VTT are uncreative. It really is. I don't know if it comes down to a lack of playtesting or what, but any random asshole could see the obvious problem with a adding a weapon that's unusable in alot of common combat scenarios. It's just bad game design.
>>98562608It's not complicated to have a character spotting and shooting from an overwatch position. It's a staple of literally almost every action-spy-military-thriller movie, game and book that has been published in the past thirty years.Spin the wumpa fruit.
>>98562685Listen I have run encounters with longer ranges to account for Snipers and the problem isn't that you can't do that, rather you are forced too otherwise the weapon type is useless. Also long range Sniper battles aren't particularly exciting in Red's system, as most of the game's mechanics are geared toward close quarter battles. They devolve into somewhat loose theatre of mind battles because of the extreme ranges.
>>whoever it may concern (no need to reply to 8 people with such a bullshit)>Open frag mapsIt's free, I highly recommend it, paid patreons get additional variations to the maps.>Scroll less than 10 maps>Find a map that could possibly be used with a sniper supportI've even provided you guys with elaborate scientific assistance to said map that shows cover zones from sniper fire.Of course sniper could switch to a rocket launcher to oblite said cover along with anyone who was hiding behind it, if you're not bringing a grenade to a knifefight do you even cyberpunk?
>>98562727>rather you are forced too otherwise the weapon type is useless.Highly specialised tools only being any use for the task they have been specialised to perform is not a problem. The problem is that you expect them to be far more generalist items than they are. This is a failure to choose the game that's right for what you want to do, or a failure to manage your players' expectations.
Am I understanding correctly that given no time pressure and a tool on hand, RAW you can roll without the tool, then if you fail you can roll with the tool, then if you fail again you can roll with the tool and take 4x the time? e.g. if a Tech wants to jury-rig something and has a Techscanner (and presumably a Techtool) on hand, it seems advantageous to try to do so in the order described to get a total of three attempts rather than two -- Techtool only (normal roll), Techtool + Techscanner (second roll at +2), Techtool + Techscanner + 4x time (third roll at +3).My read is that this is meant to be CPR's take on the "make rolls matter" ethos common in rules-light/storygames, but it seems poorly-thought-out to me.
