>Mysterious, near-omnipotent beings enforce my setting's rulesIs this a bad worldbuilding?
>>98430690A game's worldbuilding doesn't have to be good, it just has to set the stage for the challenges.
>>98430690Once they start dying it becomes peak
>>98430690Depends on the "mysterious". Why do they do what they do?Are they robots made by a creator's hand? Are they a dogmatic religious order that has achieved supremacy? Are they fighting a war? Are they managing the planet for purposes of long term preservation or some other express but hidden goal?Mystery niggas doin' shit without a why is bad worldbuilding. Mystery niggas doin' shit with a why is good. SImple as.
>>98430690Probably depends on what those rules are.For all we know that statement could be true of the real world right now, but it just doesn't come up much because there aren't many occurrences of rule breaking.
>>98430690well that waaass the worst part of final fantasy xii. but maybe you'll do better than that
>>98430690You don't play games
>IS X WRITING THING GOOD OR BAD?It depends. The entire reason those advice channels are shit is because they're all amateurs with no writing experience that keep making simply retarded statements.
>>98431334If you know the "whys", "whoses" and "hows" then there is really no mystery there. So you like mystery niggas that aren't actually mysterious. Weird, but you do you.
>>98430690No.
>>98431378>putting the reins of history back in the hands of man was the worst part of FFXIIThe rare vaanfag reveals himself.
>>98430690No it's realistic
>>98430690What traditional game?
>>98430690We have a worldbuilding general for us noble worldbuilders. Ignore the elitist gamechuds and join us there.
>>98432632GURPS
>>98431444The guy in your pick seems like someone who's read a grand total of one book dating earlier than 20th century and decided that he's now an expert in older literature.
>>98432674Who, the guy giving out modern advice? Yeah that's part of the joke.
>>98432696That's pretty clearly one guy givibg out modern writing advice and then contrasting it with what he tjinks older literature was like. He's obviously wrong about what older literature was like, though, or at least he's making some pretty wild generalizations.
>>98430827fpbp
>>98432645Which page begins to detail these "near-omnipotent beings"?
>>98430690Yes. It means your setting's rules are contrived bullshit you need superman to hold together for reasons you can't explain.
>>98430690Isn't that basically how Mystara works?
>>98430690Usually, yes. Especially so in most mediocre power fantasy series.OP pic is not an example as they are agents of the 3 biggest dick megacorporations in the city which itself is a corporatocracy.
>>98431444Don Quixote is pretty modern by this fag's standard then.
>>98433600Clearly the guy missed the modern literary requirement of "subvert everything". If he had remembered that, DQ would have been in the list of bad old novels as it sets the bar for what a knight SHOULD be.
>>98433591And are so powerful that if Lobotomy Corp went tits-up and all of those world-ending horrors were unleashed upon the world, "The Head would take care of it".
>>98433680The Red Mist soloed all the "world ending horrors" in Lobotomy Corp hq without qliphoth deterrence and still had enough gas to throw hands with an Arbiter so I dunno what you're saying. It's clearly established that high end fixers can beat abnormalities. A/B/C Corp run the patent bureau and enforce the "laws" in a city where every major company has their own private army and a functioning singularity. Why on earth would you assume they wouldn't or couldn't handle it? Their definition of handled isn't even "0 civilian casualties!" It's "the city continues to exist!"
>>98433680>And are so powerful that if Lobotomy Corp went tits-upBecause that isn't actually a big deal, they keep 22 others like it to keep them in check plus their own forces
>>98430690I think the big divide here is if you have project moon style arbiters that will really clamp down on player creativity freedom. And depending on how vague some of the rules are (like c'mon, no bullets to penetrate a wall despite walls having different materials) it can feel a bit unfair, let alone trying to remember all of them.
The question is "To what end?" You might say "That is the mystery" but you need to know even if you don't tell the readers, so that you can dictate their actions in some form of consistency.
>>98433998The ones in LB are suppressed even if they breach, remember that The Pianist which effortlessly killed hundreds of thousands of people was compared to WAW-class abnormalities.
>>98430690This is from that chomo groomer game, innit?
>>98430690Pic unrelated?
>>98430690Yes
>>98430690Depends on how it's implemented. Who are these beings, and why are they so powerful? What are their rules, and why are they enforcing them? You should have an answer even if you don't intend to inform the audience, just so that you can depict them them in a way that's consistent and not look like you're making it up as you go along.
