New Products Announced

We started with a 24-minute video keynote highlighting some upcoming releases. The video keynote is linked here. We didn’t watch all of the video that is now on Youtube, that video includes a rundown of some other upcoming releases that have already been announced. Only the new products they announced are described below.

Lost Omens: Saga Lands. This source book takes us back to where it all began: Varisia, New Thassilon, the Lands of the Linnorm Kings, and Irrisen. It is the first book focusing on this region published for Pathfinder 2e. This book releases in May 2027.

Starfinder: Beginner Box. This has been highly requested. it is an adventure on a funerary starship, on a ship run by the Prophets of Kallistrade. Features pregens for the Soldier, Solarian, Mystic and Envoy (I’m 90% sure they listed this off very quickly). This box is releasing in May 2027.

Pathfinder: Invaders from the Dark. A level 1-10 AP set in Numeria. An alien invasion adventure. It brings in Starfinder rules and shows the compatibility between Pathfinder and Starfinder. There will be a robust player’s guide with guidance on Pathfinder/Starfinder comaptibility. This releases in June 2027.

Starfinder: Galactic Arsenal. This book goes over factions and corporations in Starfinder and has new archetypes, starships, equipment, and more. A good supplement for Tech Core, including more options for the Mechanic. This book will NOT include the Luminary class which was recently playtested. This book will release around Gen Con 2027.

Pathfinder: Tome of Dungeons. This book is broken into 3 sections: Delvers, Dungeons, and Denizens. The Delvers section has new options for players, including the Daredevil and Slayer classes and the Awakened Ooze and Gargoyle ancestries. The Dungeons section has more options for GMs building dungeons. Denizens has more monster stat blocks. Tome of Dungeons is the Gen Con 2027 release.

Panel/Q&A
Panel with Erik Mona, Jenny Jarzabski, Thurston Hillman, and Adam Dagle.

Q: What new products are everyone most excited for?

A: Jenny is most excited about Absalom Station.
A: Thurston is most excited about 13 Omens. He is also very excited about Bastion of Blasphemies.
A: Adam is also very excited for Bastion of Blasphemies. Led development for this with James Jacobs.
A: Erik is incredibly excited for Dead Man’s Hand, an adventure that he wrote and has been in the works for 8-9 years! Dead God’s Hand is releasing in September. This is a level 1-7 adventure that is all about Aroden. You get to experience scenes from Aroden’s life and go to Aroden’s sanctum under Absalom. The players start as prisoners of the hryngar, digging under Absalom, and come across the Sanctum of Aroden. There will be lots of lore revealed about Aroden, Azlant, and Arazni

I had a question. I'm playing pathfinder using 3.5 material and making a monk with the saint template. The monk gets +wis to AC and the saint gets an insight bonus of +wis to AC. Do they stack, or does it fall under the "you can only get X to Y from a stat once."?
>>
>>98436684
A: they stack since they're separate bonuses, the same way Water Dancer monk adds Charisma bonus to AC from standard monk AC bonus and has a separate feature that says they get a Dodge Bonus to AC equal to their charisma modifier. The ruling is basically that attribute modifiers are an untyped bonus that don't stack with each other, so anything that says "add your str/dex/con/int/wis/cha modifier to X" twice doesn't stack unless it's typed differently
B: that rule was always bullshit and made up on the spot by patch notes errataing losers on the Paizo forums and isn't actually found anywhere officially in the 3.5 or Pathfinder 1e rules so even if you did have something adding them directly 95% of tables wouldn't care especially for a fucking monk, but even then it's fine here because it's an "untyped" Wisdom bonus and an Insight bonus stacking together.
>>

How are you getting a template on a PC? Or are you the DM in which case do whatever youre in charge

2e, Is commander better than having a second fighter?
>>
>>98437571
Really depends. Its definitely good as a free archetype dedication pickup for spellcasters stuck in confined spaces with creatures that have reactive strike, which I found myself in with Abomination Vault frequently. Basically when you have the choice between getting reactively struck 2-3 times for trying to cast a cantrip or just saying go my martials (especially with the psychic dedication's amped up message), becomes easy to see which option is better.
>>
>>98437517
The rules for getting templates on PCs in 3.5 were a lot looser back in the day compared to PF, it's why when Paizo made 1e they basically made it impossible to take them by RAW.

TQ: PF2e doesn't really have silver bullet spells, just some that are better at particular things (fireball is usually taken for dealing damage or synesthesia for debuffing)

PF1e has some spells that are on the broken side, like mass Mydriatic Spontaneity. but usually, they are nerfed by things like spell resistance.

Weird question that I'm not sure this is the right place to ask:

I'm playing a Magus in a PF2E foundry game, and the PF2E system module just updated to the Remaster. But we can't just update the foundry module to add remastered-magus, because the updated module requires Foundry v14, and we can't update from v13 to v14 without breaking a bunch of other modules we're using. Most of the changes can be done manually, since they affect things I keep track of on my end anyway, like spell slots. But a few features would obviously need to mess with the programming rules, and all of us are noobs at that.

What's the best way of getting the Remastered version of Magus into a pre-v14 Foundry? Is it feasible to export a JSON from the new version and import it into the old version? There aren't all that many features that would actually need to be transferred for my build, just Arcane Cascade and maybe a few feats, the rest don't need much automation.
>>
>>98439588
>What's your guy's thoughts on SF2e?
I won't be playing it for the first time since later next year, but I'm been messing around with the system and I like what I see so far.
>>
>>98440283
Most modules SHOULD actually be v14 ready, it has been months. Realistically speaking, you should ask the GM to test out what can be done in v14 and what has to be dropped in a backup world, and then downgrade if something truly is essential to your campaign isn't compatible.

Otherwise, wing it? Unless you want to use some of the newer feats or subclasses, most of the stuff can just be done manually or find-replace the text in the Details section.

It's from the book of exalted deeds, as long as you meet the exalted feat requirements (3 iirc) it's actually pretty easy for a Good-aligned PC to meet the requirements and become one because basically the entire game of dungeons and dragons is putting yourself in mortal harm's way.

How's Savage Pathfinder?
>>
>>98442554
SP is probably the best way to play Pathfinder because it removes build autism, leans hard into heroic fantasy with lots of quick combat, skill resolution imTN is set in stone and PCs will succeed them more often than not, and the magic system is more flexible.
Most paizo players are too fucking dumb for SW magic systems though and I really wish I was making that up.

There are a lot of spells with functionally identical effects. You cast a spell that hits a target with a damage dealing projectile, in PF there is a different spell if that projectile is fire, ice, acid, etc. in SW it's just a bolt and you flavor it however you like. People coming into Savage Pathfinder from regular Pathfinder had such a hard time wrapping their head around that concept that the SW guys had to release content that listed exact spells by name, effect, and flavored with the power point cost just so players could understand how to cast Acid Splash. The same people then bitched because they could only have three hyper specific spells ignoring the original open ended concept of three spells essentially resulted in dozens of spells. Really highlighted how if a rule or wording isn't specific about something operates it might as well be in Klingon to PF players.

[PF2 but not remaster] How bad would be Dragon (from Battlezoo: Dragons) Magus (Inexorable Tide) with Sturdy Scales feat?
>You've taken an alternative approach to strengthening your scales, gaining incredible strength quickly akin to a suit of armor. Your scales are a suit of medium armor in the plate armor group that grants a +4 item bonus to AC, with a Dex cap of +1, a check penalty of –2, a speed penalty of –5 feet, and a Strength value of 16. The Smithing Weapons debate is a strange one. I can't imagine the intent of Runesmith is to have their tool slot entirely hogged by the Artisan's Toolkit, not even Alchemist or Thaumaturge is that restricted in terms of mandatory equipment. And it isn't like the feat is useless if you could always Trace Runes with your hands full, it still is free fire damage. Rune-Singer is another feat that completely bypasses the debate as well. I know I say Runesmith only needs Artisan's Tools on them, they can use any two-handed weapon and still Trace Runes just like the Iconic.

Gun-Smith does sound based as hell, I'd kick your GM's ass for you if he said that doesn't count.

Still new to pathfinder 2e as a player and im going to start the season of ghosts campaign in a few weeks, can anyone give any advice for building a decent guardian?
I was thinking a tanuki for ancestry but im not sure if its better to use one handed weapon and shield or to use a two handed reach weapon like a naginata.
Our gm is allowing free archetype if that helps with any advice!
>>
>>98444103
Guardian's pretty simple to build. First--because you're new--the basics:

>Taunt: this is your core class ability and your primary tanking ability. You want to use it every turn.
>Strikes: this is the default "attack" action and how martial classes deal damage.
>Multi-attack Penalty (MAP): Each Strike after the first incurs a penalty. Your first Strike is your most accurate. Your second incurs a -5 penalty, and every Strike after that takes a whopping -10. As a result, almost every martial, including guardian, wants to make two Strikes per round. Any less and you're laving damage on the table. Any more and you're not going to hit anything.
>Defensive abilities: there are a bunch of reliable ways in the game to gain a circumstance bonus to your AC. Since you're a tank, you'll want to be benefiting from one of them at all times. Raise a Shield is the simplest, but you also have access to Raise Haft and, through archetypes, other options like Dueling Parry or Twin Parry.

So, put it all together and what do you want to do each round? You want to Strike twice, Taunt, and use a defensive action. The problem is that that's four actions, and you only get three. Guardian, however, solves that with two low-level feats: Shielding Taunt and Taunting Strike. Each of these allows you to piggyback a Taunt onto one of your other actions.

So then, what's the build? Before you start adding the bells and whistles, your core build is going to be one of those two feats, plus one of the defensive actions above. Using a shield is kind of the assumed default, and some of your best abilities require one (looking at you Shielded Attrition), but it isn't required. The Shielded Warfare feat even makes your shield beefy enough that using the shield as your weapon becomes an option, freeing up your other hand for things like combat maneuvers or Battle Medicine.
>>
>>98444103
I'd say Shield Guardian has better support overall and will allow you to perform better. Get a Shield Augmentation for it so you can Trip with your shield, and keep in mind you'll need to get Sturdy Shields as you advance to keep it useful.

Tanuki is ok as an ancestry, but I wouldnt use the normal boosts. -WIS is a trap and you don't really need CHA, so just go for two free boosts. Ascetic Tanuki is probably your best heritage, but Aiuvarin and Nephilim are better overall if you dont mind using them.

Your 1st level Class Feat should probably be Defensive Advance, and your 2nd level feat should be Taunting Strike or Shielding Taunt. As >>98444288 says, you want to Taunt and hit people every round if possible, so you need ways to combine actions to make that feasible, and thankfully Guardian makes it easy.

As for Archetype, and to keep it simple, I'd say Bastion to get more bang from your shield. Its not flashy, but it will serve you well, and I can tell you from experience pulling a Disarming Block on a fucker feels pretty good.

You'll want to max out Athletics so you can help your party with Trips when possible. Because Tanuki are Small you really need to get Titan Wrestler, and consider also getting Larger than Life at some point.

I'm looking at stat sheets for characters in Iron Gods, and apparently technological implants are listed in a creature's gear. >>
>>98443468
>>98442403
If you're worried about the tool slot thing, Gauntlet Bows can take Bayonets as well, meaning they can bypass the requirement with Smithing Weapons and, due to being a Free Hand weapon that you're technically still wielding, even if it's not ready, let you use two-handed weapons. If you need flavour, a sick-ass claw gauntlet covered in runes with a crossbow concealed in it is my personal preference, but having a knife duct-taped to the back of your hand could be pretty sick in the right circumstances.
>>
>>98445338
No, Free-Hand (the trait) specifies the weapon cannot be wielded while the hand is occupied, you need the hand to be free to use abilities that require that you wield the weapon (like Smithing Weapons).
>>
>>98445490
The exact wording from Player Core, page 282, is as follows:
>This weapon doesn’t take up your hand, usually because it is built into your armor. A free-hand weapon can’t be Disarmed. You can use the hand covered by your free-hand weapon to wield other items, perform manipulate actions, and so on. You can’t attack with a free-hand weapon if you’re wielding anything in that hand or otherwise using that hand. When you’re not wielding anything and not otherwise using the hand, you can use abilities that require you to have a hand free as well as those that require you to be wielding a weapon in that hand. Each of your hands can have only one free-hand weapon on it.
So, you can't attack with it, but you're still wielding it. It's a weird niche thing, but it works RAW, and is a good RAI way for GMs to allow players to use two-handed weapons with Runesmith stuff.
>>
File: Untitled.png (24 KB, 566x212)
24 KB PNG
>>98445520
He's right in this case. The answer isn't actually in the rules for the Free-Hand trait, but in the description of wielding items. In order to wield an item, you need to be able to use it. Relevant portion of the description here:

>You’re wielding an item any time you’re holding it in the number of hands needed to use it effectively.

As you mentioned when quoting the description for the Free-Hand trait:

>You can’t attack with a free-hand weapon if you’re wielding anything in that hand or otherwise using that hand.

You're not wielding it if you can't use it, and you can't use it if you're using that hand for something else. To put an even finer point on it:

>So, you can't attack with it, but you're still wielding it.

This is explicitly not a possible scenario. Plus, let's be real, the idea that slipping on a set of brass knuckles effectively turns your greatsword into a 1-hander is a little silly.
>>
>>98445601
Ah, fair enough. I was hoping it was a way to use a non-maul d12 two-hander in Runesmith, but that makes sense. Bit annoying, but modifying the thematics of my next character to use a big-ass hammer instead of a big-ass sword won't be too hard.
>>
>>98445520
>>98445601
Then I don't get what's the upside of this trait (aside from not getting disarmed) if it doesn't actually free your hand.
>>
>>98445981
The point of the feat is to treat weapons as tools for runes, the other retard is just trying to do weird shit with it
>>
>>98445981
It does free your hand. You can do all the things you normally do with a free hand while wielding a free-hand weapon; things like using Artisan's Tools while wielding a punching dagger, or drawing and drinking a potion with brass knuckles on, or opening a door while wearing a bladed gauntlet. The trait also explicitly allows you to qualify for both abilities that require a free hand and abilities that require you to be dual wielding simultaneously. A free-hand weapon (even a gauntlet, so long as you're not using that hand for anything else) would allow you to, for instance, Double Slice, then use Dueling Parry in a single round without worrying that those feats require two different weapon configurations.

What the trait does not do is allow you to wield two weapons at the same time using the same hand. For example, a gauntlet is a free-hand weapon. If you're wearing a gauntlet, then you are--somewhat obviously--wielding a gauntlet. You can use it to smack somebody for 1d4 bludgeoning damage. If you draw your halberd you are--again, somewhat obviously--no longer wielding a gauntlet, you're wielding a halberd. At that point you are merely wearing the gauntlet. You're not using your hands to jab at people because you're using them to wield your two-handed weapon. Again, this is going to sound kind of obvious, but if you were to take one of your hands off the halberd, you could use it to punch people again, as you would once again be wielding a gauntlet in that hand. Of course, now you're no longer wielding the halberd, as it's a two-handed weapon.

Basically, don't think about it too hard. Free-hand weapons pretty much work the way you'd expect them to work.
>>
>>98446079
NTA you were talking to but I could very easily see in my mind's eye punching a dude while that hand is holding onto the hilt of a sword, especially if you're just trying to get him to back off so you can stab him properly. Now most PF combat doesn't quite get that granular, but I'm fairly certain there's precedent for this logic.
>>
>>98446101
>Now most PF combat doesn't quite get that granular, but I'm fairly certain there's precedent for this logic.

Oh there definitely is, although that stuff's contained in specific abilities rather than the free-hand weapon trait. Dazing Blow is a hilt bash that converts your weapon's damage to bludgeoning. Ring Their Bell is a fist Strike to the face that explicitly doesn't require a free hand. Dual-Handed Assault goes in the opposite direction: you can do a big two-handed swing swing with a weapon you're wielding in one hand, while still counting as having a free hand (this is important so it doesn't do things like drop you out of Dueling Dance or other abilities that require free hands). There's a bunch of things in the game that allow you to bend the handedness rules, including the free-hand trait itself, in the ways mentioned above. It just doesn't do this for you is all.
>>
>>98446079
Hmmm
How does this work with action economy?
I start the turn -wielding- a 2h halberd and -wearing- a gauntlet, I want to punch a skeleton with the gauntlet then slash a zombie with the halberd. How many actions does it take and how it compares versus unarmed fist attack?
>>
>>98446771
Strike with the Halberd (1 action) remove hand from the halberd (Free action) punch with gauntlet (1 action) return hand to halberd (1 action)

As for a differences. A gauntlet must be purchased, can have property runes put onto it, however an unarmed attack can be done with a kick, not a punch, and so wouldn't require the action to 2H the halberd again.
>>
>>98446771
>How does this work with action economy?

It generally doesn't. Two-handers are by far the least flexible of the weapon loadouts. In fact, off the top of my head the only way I'm aware of to get a little weird with the handedness rules using a two-hander is via Haft Striker Stance, which is very cool, but also very niche (it lets you Darth Maul some two-handers as though you were dual wielding). If you're wielding at two-hander, the general deal is that you get your giant damage dice and your easy access to high-value traits like Reach and you like it.

To answer your question, though, releasing an item is a free action (appropriately called Release), so you can remove your hands from your weapon--or drop it entirely--at not cost. Putting your hands back on the weapon is an Interact action (single action). The other Anon's summary is dead-on, the only reason I'm posting this is because I already typed it and by god I'm going to press post.

Anybody know the name of that one NPC from PF2e who's meant to be a local gang boss or something, but she's level 15+? I'm having trouble finding her stat block.
>>
How would you fix Inventor? Personally, I’d get rid of Explode entirely and eliminate all the critical failures with explosion effects, that shit is one of the dumbest design decisions I’ve ever seen and it completely ruins a ton of character concepts, I've had so many characters that would work with Inventor, but because everything you do fucking blows up, I fucking refuse to pick it, that shit is so fucking limiting.
>>
>>98447572
Closest I can think of is Miogimo and a random gang bitch from Book 5 of Agents of Edgewatch. Sorry I cant be more specific, but if you search high level NPCs from AoE she should show up.
>>
>>98443468
Technically I don't even think it's that much of an issue because I can just drop hand, trace/detonate rune, and then regrip the hand with the reload that I needed anyway. I just want to remake an old character I made in 5e and he was a gun artificer that cast with runes tattooed on his body. The class was basically made for him.
Bigger problem is gonna be remaking his weapon which was a cannon/crossbow hybrid, so I'm thinking of a combination weapon with arquebus/barricade buster and repeating crossbow. I wanted to pick the inventor archetype to get dual-form weapon and make this process easier but the fucking feat requires expert overdrive because of course it does.
>>
>>98447743
Redo the overdrive mechanic, a player at my table has failed every roll to keep it going for like six sessions straight. Even swapping dice didn't work.

I'm gonna be running one more 1e campaign, in the next year or two probably. It's going to be a sequel campaign to our last 1-20 campaign, which ended with the PCs getting their own duchy to control.

The old party was:
>a fey sorcerer
>a human summoner
>a human kineticist
>a half-elf hunter
>a human "good aligned" necromancer

The fey sorcerer is effectively immortal and owns a tavern in the city. He learned of a super-powerful wizard posing as a not-so-powerful wizard, who has mind-controlled the king by enchanting his crown. They chose to let that wizard continue the mind control, even after he offered the ring linked to the crown to the PCs, because of all the incompetence and bureaucracy they had to deal with through the campaign, including the king and government actively hindering and imprisoning the PCs.

Now the summoner character is on his deathbed at age 105 and wants the PCs to find an ancient artifact that will allow him and his eidolon to stay bonded even past his death, to bind their souls together unbreakably. He knows only vaguely where it is rumored to be. The PCs are going to go up into the mountains, into the dwarven lands, to look for it.

With this premise, it's meant to be like a nice journey through a quieter, slowly-dying world to look for an artifact. A nice coda to our previous campaign (we're running a different one in the middle right now).

Any suggestions for monsters or creatures to include? I have all the bestiaries. Any suggestions for artifacts or spells that could be used as the basis for this? I am thinking of having unfettered Eidolons be involved, as well as some of the various folklore monsters that don't get enough attention.

Was curious how useful greater darkvision is? I can't remember in any of my games someone casting rank 4 darkness or the like. But maybe that becomes a more common strategy of higher lvl enemies since the furthest I've played it lvl 13. Since the major version of Obsidian Goggles give you that. But it seems like a waste of a invested slot to just upgrade Obsidian Goggles instead of going Eye Slash or the new Sunweave armor rune if you already have darkvision. But I guess going either of those and then buying the major Obsidian Goggles later on.
>>
>>98450202
It depends, much like with many Paizo options there's Mythic options you can take that can theoretically make you a nigh untouchable GOD... and then there's stuff that gives you a maximum of a +10 to a skill. Generally speaking however you should assume that for ever 2 Mythic Ranks you add 1 to the effective CR of a given creature/character, with a minimum of +1 since at jump Mythic points let you succeed at things and give a use for swift actions that a lot of other classes don't normally have a use for.
>>
>>98450857
AV had like 2 or 3 of them but I don't remember it being common in a lot of places. Vast majority of monsters that cast darkness do so at rank 2.

Dude, people in /pfg/ used to read the APs as they came out. They'd talk about the plot, the meta, the NPCs. There were genuine attempts to enjoy the setting and the system as a sort of living world. Nobody does that anymore, we avoid discussing the lore, we avoid the metaplot, we avoid Golarion beyond dreading how gay or retarded the next bit of lore will be. Entire APs are born, live, and die without a single discussion on the plot or particularly whacky encounters or anything of the sort.

It's probably going to be something disappointing. Arueshalae was able to retain her cuteness but that was over a decade ago, Paizo will probably turn them into annoying wine aunts.

(Part 1 of 2)
A rare instance of a two-pager, and for a martial character no less! When I asked Saru about her lore, she gave me the green light like so many streamers before her, but unlike many of them she also said that she cared a lot about keeping true to her lore, which led to me trying VERY hard to try and keep to it as faithfully as possible. Thankfully there was an archetype of Fighter that was seemingly tailor-made for her, so that part of the build was easy as pie.
>>
>>98458809
(Part 2)
However, we once again delved into the wonderful world of Technological items, which I'm simultaneously glad exist but also are baffled are so limited. Everything on the second page was something I'd had to homebrew myself, as for some godforsaken reason there are technological items for boosting mental stats, but nothing for mentals. In addition, the tech levels present in the Numerian setting are even more advanced than what we have in Saru's setting, relying more on lasers and blasters and less on ballistic firearms. As such, I had to develop new gear (and armor) that felt like a good in-between of older equipment and firearms, bullet-resistant armor (bullets by RAW target touch AC in close proximity in PF), just a bunch of stuff really.

All in all, however, I'm pretty happy with the results.

Strength of Thousands is beginning to become an exceptionally retarded campaign and once more I applaud Owlcat in how they manage to make Paizo's Adventure paths feel connected and not disjointed as fuck. In the last session, one of the first things we looked into was a bunch of arson incidents. I asked what I felt was a very reasonable question. "When did these incidents begin?"
The answer is the book doesn't say.
In fact every reasonable question I asked was answered with "the book doesn't say," like "Are the crime scenes connected in any way? Are the arsons getting more frequent? Has anyone strange been seen in the area?"
Eventually I had to ask, "Is there anything I'm not asking that you think might be relevant information for me?" Because none of us could predict the weird questions the book wanted us to ask.
And then there's how the book actually intends you to resolve the situation. So we figure out the guy behind it is a famous alchemist who is claiming several students requested supplies numbering in the thousands of gold and never paid him back, and now the school refuses to reimburse him. We figure out it's the two serpentfolk who were pretending to be students we've already killed.
So we head to his shop to make peace and try to see what will make him whole. There are 4 minotaurs there. The book says the player has 1 minute to leave or the minotaurs will attack, with several boulder traps, a fire elemental and a fire cat that will loyally defend the alchemist if this turns violent (and is intended to turn violent). The DM allowed us to convince the minotaurs to go in and speak to the alchemist, who we explain to that we're sorry for this, that they weren't students and were fakers, that we understand his frustration and ask how we can help make him whole. Well he was saving up the money to apply to be a student and is an exceptional alchemist and sorcerer so we agree to get him into the school.
>>
>>98459485
Now if this went the way the AP wants it to go, you're supposed to slaughter his workers, his pet and break into his shop, and then offer that same thing, and then you get a -2 to your study checks because you need to catch this guy up.
Seems unreasonable.
But THEN the very next thing we do tasks us with fighting some jungle drakes who've been dive bombing livestock and attacking people and the book says, "If you kill them you get no reward. The quest giver will only accept a peaceful resolution." So we're meant to slaughter this guys innocent workers and pet and elementals and break in and there's no punishment or negative repercussions, but we kill the wild animals and it's not the Magaambya way?
Oh and next session we're gonna finally trackdown Froglegs who should have been an overarching villain for this book who tracking down should be connected to the tasks we were doing but no, because everyone refused to tell us anything and were killed just for failing.
Another encounter by the way we know is intended for the player to peacefully resolve the situation with the hyper-murderer Diavolo-like crime boss who refuses to let a single bit of information about her leak, but the book is like "If you're nice to her she folds immediately."
Like I get it, the AP's aren't made so all of it is there to let the DM's make their own adjustments, but it's one thing when it's "What are you gonna do regarding classes which isn't in the book" and "The fucking connective tissue and consistency between quest morality."
>>
>>98459485
> I applaud Owlcat in how they manage to make Paizo's Adventure paths feel connected and not disjointed as fuck
Does Kingmaker and WOTR 1e feel that way? I never run/play APs so I wouldn't know, but I have a sneaking suspicion that they're more cohesive than most 2e APs.
>>
>>98459693
Nyrissa being responsible for everything in Kingmaker and the Lantern King being involved? That is entirely an Owlcat invention.
With Wrath's it's entirely different because you're effectively "Her Majesty's Secret Service" after Kenabres so you are being given tasks that can feel disjointed, but that's your job, you're not running the crusade. But Areelu is given way more focus by Owlcat she's just generic evil succubus in the AP
>>
>>98459700
>Nyrissa being responsible for everything in Kingmaker and the Lantern King being involved? That is entirely an Owlcat invention.
Huh, I had no idea. I just assumed that it was the same for the books, because it felt fairly natural.
>>
>>98459857
>>98459700
Nah, for as beloved Kingmaker is, it is notorious for not having a plot. Nyrissa and the Lantern King pretty much just gets dropped on your lap at Book 6 out of 6.
>>
>>98459868
The season of bloom is actually just a lamashtu cult of goblins, rather than another Nyrissa plot. There's no connection to the Lantern King leading people to Vordekai's tomb. There's a cut chapter with the third guy who gets given a barony. Twice Born Warlord just happens, Nyrissa didn't raise him as a lamb to the slaughter. Tartuk and Tartuccio are completely separate characters and the whole Trobold thing isn't a Lantern King plot. There is not connection between Pitax and Nyrissa.

Like Owlcat isn't doing amazing work they're just taking a villain dropped in the final book and weaving them into the story. But compared to Paizo, holy shit at least there IS connective tissue.
>>
>>98458994
I havent done more than a page through so I cant really evaluate Bastion but its genuinely a huge step up just at a glance from shit like the emerald spire or abomination vaults
Open, interconnected, the various family members, timekeeping, its clear someone at Paizo was forced to read some contemporary mega dungeons and learn instead of just stacking 9 regular dungeons ontop of each other
FWIW despite Abomination Vaults being a poor imitation of a real mega dungeon its not terrible as a springboard, the encounter design and pf2e in general are its biggest weaknesses
>>
My DM is actually pretty disheartened, we picked Strength of Thousands (Well I wanted to do Edgewatch for the memes of it being the 'forbidden' AP) because the players wanted to do a magical school game. Only to learn that nothing's ever made of classes, the school vanishes after book 2 and fuck all is done to actually make the setting feel like anything. I have no connection to this place despite the fact we're almost done with the book. The students utterly disappeared and like... what was the point of Friendship with them? (I suggested to the DM he makes the ones we're friends with our assistants starting book 3. Like they work for us doing tasks we set out while we handle the venturing)
>>
BoB is also the first of the APs to have a single author. Paizo announced that they'd be moving into releasing multi-part APs as a single volume last year, which would allow them to lower the number of cooks in the kitchen. Historically, each book of a Paizo AP is written by different authors. This is why it's so rare for there to be a coherent plot thread that runs through all the books, and why it's so common that villains just kind of appear in the book that you fight them in. Hellbreakers/Hell's Destiny was the first AP to release as a full collection, but it still had a different author for each book. I imagine just the sheer fact that you had one guy writing this--regardless of who they are--went a long way towards making it feel more coherent than most other Paizo APs. I hope the trend continues.
>>
>>98460964
Next single author AP we know of is Dead God's Hand, but that might not exactly count since that was Erik Mona's multi-year magnum opus project. I don't think, regardless of its quality, that it sets the trend on how single-author AP storylines would be compared to multi-ones.

Though yeah, the shorter and more condensed AP production format seems to have done Paizo well for the most part. The 6-book, multi-author format has its charm, but I think it has long since overstayed its welcome. Though I do hope they release more paperback modules outside of Society Play and Free RPG Day again, the full APs are pretty fucking expensive...

The only real hiccup is that Sorcerer is Charisma, while Leo is more INT. Not that Tomato Boy doesn't have some rizz, just that you can argue that he would be more some dark Wizard like a Runelord. Or even a Thaumaturge with Tome so he can use some degree of brainiac for the party.

It says OR not AND. If you're impersonating then you don't need to be transformed.
>>
>>98462953
Right, but the secret perception check the GM makes is specifically for the character to "realize the creature is transformed." If the creature is just disguised then it's not transformed so the success would reveal nothing.
At least that's how my players are arguing it.

>In fact every reasonable question I asked was answered with "the book doesn't say," like "Are the crime scenes connected in any way? Are the arsons getting more frequent? Has anyone strange been seen in the area?"
I'm kind of impressed that they managed to not even reach the "I've seen one episode of Criminal Minds" level of understanding of how investigations into serial crimes work.
>>
>>98459485
it makes sense when you understand aps are just a predetermined sequence of actions your characters are supposed to take (no matter how schizophrenic they make you seem). there are no details to investigate because you aren't supposed to investigate anything, you just get railroaded to the successful conclusion of the investigation
>>
>>98463739
But there were "If your players ask this question" parts in the book. There just weren't any questions the player was liable to ask. Like one of the questions with a set answer was "why are we doing this?" And no player actually trying to play is going to answer that because it's fucking OBVIOUS. Like every task has a justification for why the NPCs aren't doing it but can't answer a simple question about the task.

I know, Age of Worms was the first AP I ever ran almost 20 years ago and I have a soft spot for it, I just think it's kind of funny that you listed two DND APs (three if you count Curse) and only one 2e AP, which just sort of reinforces how dogshit the APs have become.

Seven Dooms having a single writer (James Jacobs again) also kind of proves the earlier discussion of how these multi-writer APs have far too many cooks in the kitchen.

Technically most (basic) Outsiders that are call-able have listed things they like for you to already have on you to give them in exchange for their services. Your DM is a cocksucker, however, because literally the listed option for her is, and I quote:

"The primary joy of the succubus is in destroying innocence and love; offering a child, virgin, or a beloved family member of the caster suffices to gain the interest of the succubus."

AKA at least two of those things you mentioned should have sufficed.
>>
>>98470003
Its not a too many cooks issue, a lot of the 1e APs have laughably bad through lines (see Carrion Crown) but the set pieces are cool and exciting

Jade Regent, which I think is a really underrated gem despite hating the plot hook, is just full of awesome scenarios. Goblins running amok with Fireworks, a ruined castle with a mad Tengu, raiding a ninja keep, a mad dash across the polar ice cap while icy undead haunt you, a forest of yokai, an underground graveyard of past emperors, etc.
Literally all bangers. The connective tissue is kinda weak but its a cool adventure that once you get on board is enjoyable
Modern APs dont have that. The individual set pieces blow ass and as a result the whole thing sucks
>>
>>98470874
Do you know what I was supposed to do while doing this?
I tried again a while later, and the DM took my glossing for forgetting to put the Dimension Anchor down and sent the Djinn on a rampage before we all started yelling at him.
It was really weird, he's absolutely a tool but he'd never acted like that before.

If youre running an AP raw in either version youre retarded
And if youre characters which are presumably like level 5 are being carried over to a new AP you will likely be overpowered for the start if yoh are trying to run it raw. Your DM needs to be able to rebuild encounters, and if you can do that you can easily do conversion from 1 to 2e

>Well the DM doesn't want to invest in doing his own campaign yet since he's still new to the system
This might be an understandable excuse for well made systems with good APs/modules, but with 2e it's like saying you'd rather eat out of a dumpster rather than risk cooking a meal for yourself.

Your entire group has already seen it in play, you're literally sailing for better shores, but what makes you think any of those shores will be better? If you take away the meme shit from Agents of Edgewatch, it's still a fundamentally awful AP. Rise of the Runelords I can't speak for, I'm guessing it's a fan made conversion? So maybe that's your best bet.

Only suggestion if I -had- to give one would be Bastion of Blasphemies. It starts on a shoreline of the castle at level 4 and can easily be adjusted to having your ship run aground there. As far as 2e APs are concerned it -seems- good (I can't verify yet and I haven't run it, but on paper it looks okay), though it'd probably have some issues for a new PF2e DM. Namely the bookkeeping, the "trapped" nature of the PCs and the potential for encounters not matching the PCs' level. It very much seems like an AP made for experienced players, but that might make it fun and challenging for your party if you're into that.
>>
>>98473519
Well the main flaw with the AP and the reason we're giving it up, is I get sold on my magical school funtimes adventure, I don't expect or want to effectively be removed from that experience. Kindle Magic is fun, Book 2 COULD have been fun if it didn't abandon the school almost entirely and instead feature nothing but side quests that give no info. Finding out we graduate at the end of the book, time to be teachers is severely offputting. However since we now have more than blurbs to go off, we can find a new AP that doesn't fuck itself midway through.

But seriously School AP written by someone who's never even heard of a school-setting fiction story.

Kind of reminds me of the classic idiot on Paizo's forums who almost figured out why Alchemist was a terribly designed class before reaching the conclusion that problem was the fact that the people in his group were playing honorable characters who don't use poison instead of the fact that designing a class to be a vending machine is a bad idea.

>>
>>98474126
>instead of the fact that designing a class to be a vending machine is a bad idea.
It is not a bad idea.
If you have a game with a bunch of items that want to be used.
A crafting system that lets anyone make a bunch of items that want to be used.
And a bunch of people who statistically do NOT use a bunch of items that want to be used.
It makes perfect sense to create a class all about making items that want to be used.

The Vending Machine Chemist is a longstanding one, much more than the 1e "Martial Wizard Bomber" one. The problem with the previous iterations of 2e Alchemist came from
>Hastily ripping out the Resonance system
>Infused Reagents requiring excessive mental stack to justify if you want to make more consumables than you need
>A martial class without martial scaling, a caster class without caster scaling. The worst of all possible worlds.
>INT-class with no use for INT, in class or out.
>(Still) no form of action compression to let others benefit from your alchemical items, or even yourself outside of bombs
>Subclasses that didn't do anything
>No good alchemical elixirs for at least 2-3 years

It's a lot of compounding issues that would have made any concept of Alchemist, even if it was just an unga bunga damage class, terrible.
also yes it is insane the party wants to have a toxicologist in the team but refuse to use poisons, especially if this was back in the day where a toxicologist could preemptively poison every piece of ammunition. That's like grabbing a Cleric when everyone chose to be Superstition Barbarians.

To clarify, the 1e Alchemist's formula list was literally just an offshoot of the Wizard's spell list, to the point that an Alchemist can copy a Wizard's spellbook into their formula one. While there were normal alchemical bombs, there was few and didn't scale, compared to the extracted bombs an Alchemist could create. And the extracts were just Wizard spells put in a bottle. But extracts weren't able to be shared without an additional class feat/Discovery. Fundamentally, alchemical items was the Alchemist class mechanics: meant to be looked at but not touched by anyone else. So when I called them Martial Wizard, I really did meant it: a different take on Wizard's potential offensive and supportive capabilities.

2e Alchemist, in making the full-scale Alchemical Items list and feature set, wanted to say an Alchemist is an Alchemist. They don't even have spell slots anymore. It just had to stumble its way for years into actually doing such (and still arguably missing some core stuff, like a Quick Bomber equivalent for elixirs -- mutagens are fine with Collar of the Shifting Spider).

Fairly new player here, can you guys recommend me a fun healer to play? Our party needs one.
I'm mainly wondering if there are classes that can do stuff on turns where they are not healing, the guy who played cleric in our first campaign ran out of options pretty quickly and I'm not sure if that's because of how he built the character or that just comes with the territory.
>>
>>98476021
There's multiple editions included in this general, you should include which one you're asking about in order to get more replies. Taking a guess you're talking about 2e, you've basically got three options:

>Healing via spell slots
This is the traditional way to do it. You go cleric or some other class with access to the Heal spell (or even Soothe, which is bargain-bin Heal but still solid combat healing), then when you need to heal you just... cast it. You can build into this to a certain extent, but don't really need to. As you seem to have found out, there's no such thing as a "dedicated healer" in this system; this isn't an MMO where you'll be spamming heals on the tank to keep them up during the figh. Even the most purpose-built healer is going to spend most of their turns doing other stuff. So, build-wise, you just build the guy however you want and prepare a couple of Heal spells each morning.

>Healing via focus spells
Lay on Hands is the poster boy here. That's champion's signature focus spell. Focus spells are different from spell slots because, instead of preparing them every day, they draw from a mana pool that recharges in ten-minute increments. They're also different from spell slots in that they are much easier to acquire and use. Martial characters can use them effectively, and basically anyone can gain access to focus spell-based healing via the Blessed One archetype. It's kind of like a miniature divine caster multiclass; you've been blessed with healing hands by some god or another. Just a single-feat dip into the archetype gets you the spell and a focus point to use it with. You can get another focus point from the archetype or, if you're a class that has its own focus points (such as a ranger or monk), you can get them from your base class. Again, you don't really build around healing, you just add it as something you can do when you need to.
>>
>>98476021
>>98476111
>Battle Medicine
Nonmagical healing is actually good in this game. To enable that, you take the Medic archetype. Similar to how Blessed One allows basically anybody to use lay on hands, the Medic archetype allows anybody willing to keep a hand free in combat to put out some serious heals. Characters like swashbucklers or rogues who are limited to agile weapons (which are typically one-handers) are a natural fit here, but anybody can do it. Fighters have solid support for one-hander builds, and both commander and investigator have built-in class support for Battle Medicine. It's not limited to melee characters, either. Bows are "1+"-handed weapons, meaning that you count as having a free hand unless you're actively firing them. This means that anybody with a bow and arrow can pretty easily work battle medicine into their combat rounds as well.

>Bonus: Alchemy
Alchemists can generate a lot of healing, both via the Chirurgeon research field or just by crafting a bunch of healing elixirs each morning. They're kind of in their own category here, but if you want to be a medicine dispenser they're good at it.

>Extra-bonus: out of combat healing
So long as you have a couple of people with focus-point based healing, or one person with the medicine skill and its associated feats (they don't even need the Medic archetype--that's just for combat healing), this is going to take care of itself.

>There's multiple editions included in this general
Ah shit my bad, it slipped my mind. Yes, we're playing 2e.
Anyways, thanks a lot for the input, what I'm getting form this is that I have way more choices than I expected. I'm gonna ponder on what kind of character I want to play aside from being a healer and go off of there.
A couple of follow up questions about battle medicine, since that sounds quite appealing to me right now.
You've mentioned that basically any class can take the medic archetype and be decent with battle medicine, dpes the proficiency bonus from becoming an expert in medicine make up for the fact that you might be playing a class with a low wisdom modifier?
Also only being able to use battle medicine on each party member once a day until getting medicine to master (level 7?) sounds very limiting. Though I suppose it's not too different from having a few heal spells ready that need an 8 hour rest to recharge.
>>
>>98476312
No problem--regarding Battle Medicine stuff, I realize after typing this out that I've given you a book, here here goes:

>Healing output
The Medic archetype does two things for you here. One, it provides a flat bonus to your Battle Medicine healing (from +5 to +15). Even if you're just taking the Assurance result (more on that in a minute), this is enough that your Battle Medicine heals roughly track the healing provided by a level-appropriate single-action Heal spell. They're like little non-magical Heals. Two, once you reach master proficiency in Medicine, the archetype allows you to ignore the once-per-day limit once every hour, essentially putting your heal on a 1-hour cooldown. Now you've got one heal per party member per day, plus one per hour after that. This also allows you to burst-heal by using Battle Medicine on somebody, then immediately using it again (ignoring their immunity) for what amounts to a solid two-action heal.

On top of that, you've got two very relevant feats in a party with a Battle Medicine user: Godless Healing and Robust Health. These are both low-level feats that someone can take in order to reduce the Battle Medicine immunity from 24 hours down to 1. These drastically spike your healing output for anyone who takes one of them. You'd 100% want to take one yourself (after all, you're always in range to heal yourself, so you might as well get the most of it), but anyone in a party with a Battle Medicine user should consider it. In a party where everybody's rocking one of these, you've got one heal, per hour, per party member, plus a floater, also per-hour. That's a ton of healing.
>>
Cont. >>98476432
>Skill checks
The great thing about the Battle Medicine (combat healing) and Treat Wounds (non-combat healing) actions is that they use static DCs. This means that, instead of the DCs leveling up along with your patients, they are set, flat numbers. And, fortunately, the numbers aren't that high. It also helps that the wisdom attribute itself is useful, since it contributes to your will saving throw, so most characters will be investing in it whether they're medics or not. You basically have two routes here:

>Route 1: make the rolls
Invest in the medicine skill. Take it to legendary proficiency eventually. Boost your wisdom like normal. Grab the relevant +skill items. You'll easily keep up with the checks necessary to keep your healing relevant, and you'll eventually be able to attempt Legendary (DC40) heal checks and play with any high-level medicine skill feats you feel like (the Medic archetype actually has a feat that lets you bring a dead character back to life, called Resuscitate, which requires a DC40 check). Late-game, you'll never quite erase your chance of whiffing a DC40 check, but you do get to the point where you can't fail DC30 checks and regularly crit-succeed on them for huge numbers.
>>
Cont. >>98476435
>Route 2: Assurance
Assurance is a skill feat that can remove the need for rolling entirely. With the Assurance feat, you can choose to take a guaranteed result based on your level and proficiency rather than rolling any dice at all. This has some advantages: one, it completely removes any reliance on the wisdom attribute or on item bonuses, since Assurance ignores those entirely. Two, it removes any possibility of whiffing your heal: Assurance gives you a guaranteed result, you cannot fail the check. With Assurance, you'll auto-succeed a DC15 medicine check at level 2, a DC20 check at level 6, and a DC30 check at level 14. You don' even need to take the medicine skill to legendary; you'll never succeed at a DC40 check with assurance, so there's no point. Just get medicine to master proficiency and leave it there. This does mean that you don't get to play with the legendary medicine skills, and that you'll never critically succeed a heal check like you might if you were rolling dice, but on the flip side you'll never fail one either.
>>
>>98476435
>Late-game, you'll never quite erase your chance of whiffing a DC40 check, but you do get to the point where you can't fail DC30 checks and regularly crit-succeed on them for huge numbers.

Whoops, misleading typo: you reach a point where you can't *crit* fail DC30 checks. A natural 1 will always cause a whiff, although by level ~15 that'll be the only way you can fail the check.

Have any of you guys taken a game past level 20 and if so what did you do? Personally I didn't change numbers I just adjusted characters to Dual-class and had them levelling up their second class, or having them gain an extra Feat each level rotating General/Class/General/Class/Ancestry

With a few restrictions. You weren't allowed to take a second capstone feat until reaching a +10

Nice get, but you sound insufferable and your takes scream "I don't play tabletop because nobody likes me, so I just white room theorycraft and seethe about a system I dislike." What's the point of even discussing 2e if you hate it and don't play it?

The rogue in the party for the game I'm running makes decent use out of it. Granted he got it from the dedication but it's not that bad.
>>
>>98478664
To somewhat entertain this, I do think 2e Druids do have a bit of an issue being so generalist. Within the feat list itself, I don't think there is a lot of ways for any Druid to necessarily focus, whether you want to rip and tear as a bear or just flood the arena. In the metagame of PF2e, it doesn't make Druid a particularly competitive choice, which D&D5e non-Circle of the Moon Druids also suffer from.
But I do think the point of a Druid in a party is to provide a member that can theoretically fit any circumstance, at least as long there is some kind of man, plant, or beast involved. Unlike 5e Druids, being a generalist is an open spot in how role-locked many 2e classes are and can cover a lot of situations. Plus Archetypes can help pick up the slack.

Some Tham Implements do really feel more like multiclass fodder than something you build in Thaum itself. But cheapo Champion's Reaction (side note, why is there no actual name for that?) is pretty handy, especially as Thaum MC isn't as stat heavy as Champion MC itself.

[2e] Is there any way to be Legendary in four skills? I'm trying to build a Ranger who's gonna be legendary in Athletics, Stealth, Nature and Survival. Can it be done at all?

Be a Rogue or Investigator. They can have four legendary skills at 18th level, maxing out at six legendary skills at level 20.
Other than that, no. You can get cute with Additional Lore feats to have an auto-updating skill, Thaumaturges have Esoteric Lore, but your particular Ranger will have to make choices where to specialise.

>>
>>98478209
>>98481902
I would be a sucker for an actual Epic Level Handbook. There's monsters that do just go above Lv. 20 and into 25+ deals, and Mythic isn't quite the same as just being Level 30 or so. I know on a practical there isn't much of a difference, and the Eternal Legend and Warshard Warrior Mythic Destinies are the "mankind's own power" idea. But something about max level PF2e does leave me just the ever bit wanting for more.

>>98481902

>>
>>98481902
In my campaigns ive started adding mythic ranks more into the overall progression of the campaign, not really bounding them to character level or anything. Doing a major story arc or several and completing them in an exceptional manner could lead to them.
>>98483109
They do but they also don't. The main difference is 3.5e actually has rules for level 20+ progression within the classes themselves whereas pf1 basically says "20 levels in a class is it, go past that and you start taking levels in a second class/prestige class", which i kind of like to be honest. I am gearing up a campaign for this possibility.
>>98483282
Agree, honestly doing both (mythic ranks and 21+ levels) seems fine but I dont really care for the RAW system of mythic stuff, so I incorporated my own system for it

thinking about what to play for my first character and looking through the weapons there are.
Thinking of going for a rogue, which means I probably want a one-handed finesse weapon. In that case is there any argument against just picking the one with the highest damage? In general is there ever a scenario where you want to start out with something like a dagger with 1d4 damage unless it's for flavor or you literally can't afford anything better?
>>
>>98484335
Assuming 2e, it is all a matter of traits. While the best weapon for such is just a Rapier for a Rogue, there are plenty of stuff you may want such as the Parry trait, Thrown trait, Agile, Backstabber, Deadly, etc. It all about what build you are going for and what you want, especially as maxing out damage by your weapon isn't the most important part of 2e. There's just plenty of ways in and out your class to boost it up, and once you get your second damage die on your weapon the damages all averages out, outside the maximum weapons.
>>
https://www.reddit.com/r/Pathfinder2e/comments/1vj3via/other_than_inventor_and_psychic_which_classes/p2mtjk7/

It is okay for the psychic to be underpowered because in real life, some jobs are underpowered, apparently.
>>
>>98484335
By default, damage is king. For most rogues that means you're immediately eyeballing a rapier (1d6 damage plus extra damage on a crit from the Deadly trait). Weapon damage itself tends to be balanced around two different tradeoffs:

>Proficiency required
Everyone is proficient in simple weapons; these take no investment. On the flip side, being trained in martial or advanced weaponry requires either class features or feat investment. As a result, simple weapons have lower power budgets than other weapon types: they'll have either less traits or lower damage dice than similar weapons that require martial or advanced proficiency. A simple weapon isn't really something you use because you want to, it's something you use because you're not proficient in anything better. You're paying for ease of access with a lower power budget.

>Weapon traits
The other relevant tradeoff here is traits. Weapons with more or better traits pay for it with lower damage dice. This is why there are no d8 Agile weapons and no d12 Reach weapons.

So, what's a dagger? It's a simple throwing weapon that's effectively a sidegrade to other simple weapons with similar traits. If you cared about being able to throw your weapon, and were limited to simple weapon proficiency, your choice among common weapons would be between the dagger (Agile/Finesse/Thrown/Versatile), throwing knife (trades the Versatile trait for an extra 10' of throwing distance), and corset knife (trades the Versatile trait for the Concealable trait instead). If you have martial weapon proficiency, all of those are mogged by the starknife, which has all the traits a dagger does, plus the Deadly trait and the extra range. You might use the corset knife anyway if the Concealed trait really mattered to you.

Big-picture, you want big damage dice, and the main reason that you'd look at weapons with less damage is if they make up for it with traits you want. And, in general, simple weapons are just worse than martial ones.
>>
>>98484763
Damage is more head chancellor than king. When you mainly focusing on damage ranges between d4-d8, the extra 2 points in average tend to not matter compared to what your weapon allows you to do. But it is still the foundation of any weapon-based build, so it does work as decent guidelines on where to take your character.

I just bring it up as between Theif Rogue being a source of (and the only one of its kind) DEX-to-Damage, and Rogue already having Sneak Attack damage dice, 2-4 more points of damage tends to not stack up in the long run compared to the opportunity costs. Just things to consider once you start diving deeper into 2e's meta.

An admittedly fluff question on deep one hybrids.
Since they're seaborne creatures, does that mean they drink salt water?
On that note, we started playan Ruins of Azlant two weeks ago.

>DM rolls my death day for campaign.
>Before others arrive, make a pinky swear with DM to not intentionally drown myself early and turn into my adult form.
>Start game, have 9/10 HP.
>Take Skald's Vigor as an opener.
>DMPC playan a venerable furry Fighter.
>The wizards that made him will try to harness my death goo to restore him to full vitality.
>Has 16 HP.
>DMPC gave himself a furry feat for Fast Healing 2.
>...Quietly switch out Skald's Vigor for Flagbearer.
>Session begins.
>Rowboat to abandoned town.
>Rowboat is attacked.
>DMPC takes a critical for twelve damage.
>DMPC crits the grindylow back.
>Fully heals by the time get to shore.
>Initial investigation is interrupted by a fuath.
>Immediately have an argument over it having reach [spoiler it doesn't .
>DM fiats it does no .
>Manage to kill two things in a row with two double natties.
>DMPC gives me a high five.
>"You take one point of damage from me forgetting my claws again, and another non-lethal because you're venerable."
>Find that deeply amusing.
>Go back to ship and make report.
>Haven't figured out a silly voice for character yet, voice breaks in middle of response to captain, take a second to catch breath.
>DMPC takes half-answer as being an asshole.
>Captain snaps at us.
>Sends us underwater because of fish blocking the boat.
Without sarcasm, I am looking forward to seeing where this campaign goes.

Would you let a cleric Norgorber cast DF spells with the holy symbol of another deity?
One of my players is playing one and posing as a TN Gozreh priest, but I'm not sure how to run it.
>>
>>98486052
Personally I'd tell him that he can have it look like a holy symbol of Gozreh, but in order to have a potential plot hook in there it has to be a disguised holy symbol, and someone who specifically investigates the symbol (and makes, I don't know, a DC 20 Perception check) realizes the ruse and that it's actually a unholy symbol of Norgorber underneath the facade.

that's the opposite of how math works. the more damage die you get on your weapon, the bigger the difference between high damage and low damage weapons becomes
>>
>>98489665
The gap between the d8-d12 weapons to anything lower of course gets further, but it is more to say that, as HP bloated lategame enemies can be, the damage you are tossing out is still competitive, even before any additional riders. Think of how 5e power weapons are simply 2d6 at base. If you going for a weapon with high damage but lacking in traits, especially something like Reach, you might be shortchanging your optimization possibilities.

Outside of ALL the conceptual, powercreep, and redundancy issues Battle Harbinger has as Class Archetype...
Guess what this full martial class *doesn't get* at Level 7?

WEAPON SPECIALIZATION!
It gets NOTHING at 7, so not only it is dealing no damage compared to real martials, you just outright don't have a class feature at all!
>>
>Any non-archaic weapon or armor past the first couple levels can't be mass produced, as the tools to require advanced alloys and technology supervision and can't be automated without massive supercomputers.
>Fluffwise, low level weapons can barely scratch higher level armor and people buffed by personal upgrades, which is why higher level weapons and armor cost more than vehicles.
>UPBs are only really useful for jury rigged repairs and filling in gaps, and you need real materials for something permanent.

There, just fixed everyone's complains about the Starfinder 1e's economy.
>>
I'm pretty bored so lemme brainstorm some Battle Harbinger ideas going on. I want to keep it inbetween the Striker + Support mix it is trying to be while giving it a unique identity between Champion and Warpriest, so pardon if some ideas may sound strange.

>Drops Bounded Spellcasting for 2 slots a rank + Divine Font. I actually like the mechanic (if it had 3 slots per rank) but I can't really justify it next to modern Magus.
>Full martial weapon scaling, your Deity's Favored Weapon still retains Crit Specialization + Divine Simplicity. INCLUDES WEAPON SPECIALIZATION AT 7 AND 15!
>Your Battle Auras include all spells with the Aura trait that can be casted with a Spell Slot + granted through your Cleric Focus Spells. This mostly lets you add Palm-Held Sun and Reaper's Lantern to your selection, but futureproofing is important, especially if you have a Deity that grants an Aura spell outside the Divine list.
>Aura Enhancement instead increases the emanation range of all Battle Auras to a minimum of 25ft. At 6th level and every 2 levels after, increase the range by 5ft.
>Tandem Onslaught is a 3rd Level feature.
>A creature that would become immune to your Battle Auras after a successful save instead only gains a +4 bonus to their save against repeated sustains.
>Add in this feat: Harbinger's Command -- Feat 6 -- Your religious order grant you unique training to empower your allies. You gain a Commander's Folio with 2 Tactics you can prepare and teach your allies. Your allies must be inside your Battle Aura's range to use a Tactics with them. Special: If a Tactic lets you use your Warfare Lore in place of a skill, you can instead use your Religion in place of a skill.
>Harbinger's already gain Heavy Armor Training. Instead, Harbinger's Protection grants them Armor Specialization.
>Creed Magic doesn't grant you extra slot but does still add all spells mentioned to the Divine List and can be prepared in your Divine Font. When you cast these, you can sustain a Battle Aura.
>>
>>98491130
(cont.)
>Empowered Onslaught is a 13th-Level Feature. You must be using a Deity's Favored Weapon to benefit from this.
>Add in the following 14th-Level Feat -- Empowered Onslaught -- When you cast a Battle Aura or Creed Spell, increase the status bonus or penalty it grants by +1, to a maximum of +4 or -4.
>Live the Creed is now 12th-Level. It still retains the once-per-10 minutes timer.
>Add in the following 20th-level Feat -- True Faith, Forged by Battle -- You gain a 10th-level rank slot that can only hold the Avatar spell. You add the Avatar spell to your Battle Creed Spells. When you cast the spell, you can cast an additional Creed Spell as a free action.

I got a P2e question.
I'm building a Ratfolk character for flavor and considering the Rat Familiar Ancestry Feat, because none of the others sound too appealing to me and I've never had a familiar before.
What exactly is the utility of having one though? I know that spellcasters that get them, gain a bonus to certain rolls depending on the type of familiar they have and also have other interactions with them. However I assume if I get one through this feat as a class that usually doesn't have one, he's just a little guy I cans end out to scout a room and stuff like that?
From what I understand I can also use Command Animal(?) to give it actions it can use in combat, but probably that's just gonna get it killed with how little HP they get.

I want to have my players encounter a controlled village in my pathfinder game. Like the entire small settlement of like 60 people is in some way mind controlled into just doing the same base routine like a video game character. Is there a way I can go about this? I want it to be horror in a way but I don't know how I could really go about it with something my players can actually beat or fix.
>>
>>98494867
Familiars from Ancestries are still full familiars. They may have a mandatory ability tax, but Rat Familiar doesn't beyond needing to always look like a Rat. So every day, you can choose 2 abilities of your choosing.
https://2e.aonprd.com/Familiars.aspx
Scouting out things is the most typical application, but there's plenty of things you can do if you have some imagination. Master Abilities are also up for grabs as well.

As for combat, most people usually have them on their shoulders (which technically isn't RAW but I have seen no one fight this) or in a familiar satchel. The former leads them vulnerable to AoE effects, so be mindful of that. Familiars can't Strike and would need to be in an enemy space to do so anyway, so they shouldn't be directly targeted often, if at all.
>>
>>98495096
>don't know how I could really go about it with something my players can actually beat or fix
just off the top of my head the obvious thing would be to have the mind controlling me caused by an object or entity. Have it be tied to the village history somehow so by exploring they can collect clues about where it is and how to defeat/disable it.
>>
>>98495096
Trick I've found for this is to make it a slow build - write out a bunch of canned responses that the NPCs give, have them do the same thing every day no matter what, make them blank the PCs and treat them like they're not even there, all of that stuff. Make a note of their passive perception DC and slowly give them bonuses to it, then send a message directly to the PC that notices first letting them know that something's off, but not what. Them figuring it out, either through your hints or through directly noticing, will make it creepier, make them feel smarter, or will make it more memorable years down the line.

Funny story, Michael Hosp, one of the 3pp guys (who I think also works with Teams+ now?) who drops his stuff as pay what you want (including "fucking free", which does a lot of heavy lifting for getting eyes on it) dropped a huge ass update to his Soldiers of the Immortal War book, that includes almost fully reworking Battle Harbinger to unfuck nearly everything about it. I think the only thing he doesn't change is bounded casting and only getting expert spell DC, but I think he's open to maybe adjusting it.
