If it came from Drivethrurpg, it may or may not have metadata, watermarks, and or hidden text layers and overlays, depending upon the particular publisher, if they chose to cruft it up or not. First you may or may not have to remove security/password protection (can tell this by trying to edit in Acrobat, if it allows you to or not). There are python scripts that can do this, or you can simply use the cutepdf site. Once in Acrobat, you click Redact a PDF, Sanitize Document, and Selectively Remove. From here I recommend making a copy of unclean pdfs you already have or get a few cheap ones off Drivethru and just use them to experiment with to learn the ins and outs of what to remove. For instance, you might not want to delete bookmarks. Watermarks can be removed with Edit Text, then Search and Replace (replace with a space). Don't use redact, as it's messy. Drivethru watermarks on the front and back covers are usually on a transparent overlay, and have to be removed manually. Abbyy Finereader can automatically search all and replace. There are scripts that can do all this, but you really need to visually examine a pdf first so you don't obliterate elements you want to preserve.
