>>98438592>Why people don't play campaigns?Scheduling.Same as everything else that requires a commitment. If they're long campaigns then it is too large a commitment, if they're short campaigns then missing one or two weeks is too great a detriment to the experience.I think the better experience is a game day, playing from breakfast until bedtime and getting as much game in as a month of weekday evenings.
>TQOnce the new Oathmark book hits I'm gonna try to get my locals to do one.
>>98438592>TQConsidering DND is actually played to the point its just slop now and has 0 figure or terrain requirements, and that game struggles to have more than 3 sessions in a campaign, the idea of getting a community for a niche autist project no one's heard of nor gives a shit about feels rather ridiculous. I blame the automobile for making us lazy and musically for making us retarded.
Northstar is temporarily selling all 5 of Oathmark's metal maquettes again, up until the 27th of August, in a bundle if anyone is interested (me I'm interested). You can also get a free sprue of plastic infantry of your choice if you preorder the rulebook.Just did both myself (got dwarf light infantry, no plans for dwarfs but I want to scrap the hands of the tool weapons and use them for a human warmachine base).
>>98438880>just slop now and has 0 figure or terrain requirements,That's the way RPGs have always been senpai. The essentials have always been pen and paper not plastic and paint. >>98438592>Why people don't play campaigns? What other anon said about scheduling is a big part of it. I think the other part is that few people want to Game Master. They wanna play not organize, schedule, do book keeping, arbitrating, play NPC factions and facilitate the campaign.
>>98438592>Why people don't play campaigns?Time investment
>>98438923Well yeah, if people can't even get together with at most one sheet of paper for an hour a week then the time needed for anyone to actually find all of the damn mapstones in Ghost Archipelago is less than a pipe dream its impossible.
>>98438592>Why people don't play campaigns?Everybody's working 6 days a week for shit wages and living 2+hours away from each other. We're fortunate to have a game day every month or so
>>98439056True though hopefully there some amount of sunk cost encouraging people to show up. Like you spent dozens of hours painting to not show up for a two hour game.
>>98439180It also doesn't help that GA in particular is basically impossible to win since you need all of the 10 stones. That are rare drops. And if you get doubles you don't have a do-over. I think I last played 10 solo games and got two map stones and one of them was a repeat. Meaning this is the best game ever made.
>>98438561>>98436664Alright I’ll try that, cheers!
>>98438592Campaigns are a neat idea, but they should be the extra optional rule, not the base version.
>>98439869I've noticed people hate losing because of campaign stuff like special units/abilities only earned via the campaign, and I'm contemplating trying to develop a campaign approach where instead of gaining bonuses, you lose self-imposed restrictions as you progress.
>>98439828I downloaded Pepsihammer, for what it's worth
>>98439828Gambare, Pepsi-kun. I for one think that old GW games should be reclaimed, stripped of corporate slop and repurposed for community-driven goals. Games like Adeptus Titanicus or Warcry deserve to be freed.
>>98440075>warcry>a game I ran events for when it came out>olderThat hurt
>>98440180Sorry, "abandoned" is a better word to describe what I mean.
>>98440211That's like every GW game that's not 40k.
Had first test game of XCOM today. Rolled things up and essentially ended with a Combat Patrol with Sectoids in a partly collapsed mine. I used books to represent walls and obstacles from X-Wing for cover pieces. Completed the mission the hard way, by just blasting through all 12 aliens. Lost my team leader on the way, and had to use the optional save-scum rule for a certain shot. But managed to snag the win, save a civilian, grab one objective (the other hadn't been finished by the time it ended) as well as some alien resources and plenty of scrap.Turn 1 postgame saw two of the survivors go up a rank, and upgrading 1 to a Heavy and another to an Assault. Since I was down to 5 guys, I recruited up to 7. I built the Lab and then started on the Project that gives me Reaper Rounds and the SHIV first. Then I'll do Carapace Armour before finally going for the Alien Containment and the Arc Thrower needed to get onto the campaign. Without boosting it, this could take me over two months. But hopefully I'll be able to boost that through lucky finds on missions. So far, I'd say it works pretty well.
>>98440908>the optional save-scum rule for a certain shot.lolwut did they put in a rule that emulates saved games?
Anyone know any generic 6mm scifi combined arms rules? I found these awesome 6mm figures from khurasan for dirt cheap and I think it would be awesome to fill a 4×4 table with dense urban terrain. It's so small I could print enough terrain for pennies
>>98438908They look great. I always thought the elves were more half elves howeverJust ordered a bunch of sample packs from Alternative Armws for something to paint. Getting away from 28mm, selling a lot of my old minis and rules to makw my hobby more complete and compact.
>>98440974Once per game you can roll 2 dice and pick the one you want.Plus, it's a solo game, the only thing stopping you from going "nah let's try that again." is your autism.
>>98441507Well Alternative Armies has USEME
>>98441507LaserstormRailgun 2100Strike Legion: Planetary OperationsFuture War Commander
>>98438880>Considering DND is actually played to the point its just slop now and has 0 figure or terrain requirementsIf you've ever tried to GM a game you'll quickly realize why minis and terrain are absolutely not worth using. You put in all this effort just for a set piece you'll only use once, and a bunch of monsters that might not ever even make it on the table unless you railroad it into happening which is lame and defeats the purpose of the game.
>>98442532Honestly at this point D&D should just poach range mechanics from other RPGs and make models and battle mats optional "advanced" rules.I have painted a bunch of skeletons for a combat encounter only to have the players circumvent it with a clever use of a disguise spell. Which was really fun and I applauded it, but it did mean I wasted time with those skeletons.
>>98438880I think you are confused. The TQ is talking about a wargame campaign not an rpg campaign. A wargame campaign is fairly simple to do.
>>98442912>I won't ever need skeletons again???
>>98442145>Once per game you can roll 2 dice and pick the one you want.I was at least hoping they did something creative to emulate the activity. Oh well. >solo gamer has no self discipline, the only that that matters for solo gaming checks out.
>pepsihammer >We took the best parts of 4-6!>Hull points instead of AVReeee
>>98440908Is it £200+ fun?
>>98443855Maybe £60. I'd shop around for proxies on Etsy or Rolling Bones for proxies first. Personally, I'll wait for the MEK Trooper and maybe some of the power armour. At the very least until they give me a Rookie with The Hairstyle I'm not interested.
Rules for this vibe?
>>98443883Oathmark, 100%. Its just Warhammer but going way back to basics, and its model agnostic so people just spend as much as they are willing to be creative.
>>98443866why do they look womanish
>>98443893Because Across the Realms mostly do embarrassing titty-lady parody miniatures. They do a pretty decent version of the mini-tank though.
>>98443902>embarrassing titty-ladyThe fuck is embarrassing about my thick thighs callidus?!?!
>>98443883INFAMY!INFAMY!! with some homebrew
>>98442256Which one is best?
>>98443892>>98443914aren't both of these games for individually based minis?
>>98443905Okay it definitely is across the realms but they don't sell the callidus anymore, couldn't find it in their catalogue but I was so sure it was theirs by the thighs alone, found it on archived pages. Why do STL makers do this shit? There is no cost to keeping older sculpts available for people to buy, and these assholes wonder why they get pirated =/
>>98443883those oathmark skellies are pretty cool
>>98444018Oh you want multi based games where a unit is based on the size rather than how many is in it. Hail Caesar, but its historical, the supplementary stuff for different eras and fiction I have no experience with. Sludge is another but its more with guns and napoleonic era fantasy. In regards to Oathmark most people just use movement trays and you rarely ever have less that 5 units on the front row of a larger unit, you can by all means make a multi base model for larger units and just take it out when it gets lower and there is some way to just measure that the units are casualties. Its rare you will have a unit killed to the last man, so having multi bases on larger units isnt a big deal so long as you can designate who the casualties are on that base. Its not a competition game just use gentlemans agreement if that supposedly dead unit on your multi based model counts as in line of sight or if you are being a sweating boy and want to say it counts.
>>98438592Looking for Greathelm 0.4 or the link for the pdf in the website
Wtf
>>98444272The miniature wargaming industry is becoming such a joke. Ever since COVID when they attracted the manbaby normie crowd, it has never been the same. Prices are absurd, and the surfeit of proprietary pop culture IPs becoming wargames itls appalling. Thankfully historicals will always belong to the old grogs
Played the World of Tanks ttg a ton lately and it's awakened an interest in tank games within me I didn't know I had. What other tank games do we have on the market and which is best? WW2, modern, sci-fi, whatever. Just gave me tank game suggestions!Give me alternating activation, or give me death!
>>98444272This can't fucking be real
>>98444286If I wasnt lazy I would make a game that all the factions are based on nothing but historical designs and model ranges in different eras, rip off MESBG rulesets, and get some good artists to make a bunch of art for it and just make general themes and motiffs for each "faction" that allows people to effectively make what they want using historicals as a base. The prices of shit are fucking nonsense now, then you look at historics and how high quality but cheap they are, and lament that no ruleset to setting uses them, especially not in combination with eachother.I want to see Napoleonic uniformed guys wielding swords fighting centurions aremed with muskets in large formations because the models are so cheap and varied. Just make a setting where it makes sense and all the historical ranges can be used.
>>98444272this is such an easy adaptation that you shouldn't be upset by it. The videogame is tactical skirmishes with base building, there's no reason that can't be done in a tabletop.
>>98444343Yes, we're all annoyed by it existing and not it costing £185 for 21 models :/
>>98444272My brother and I lol'd when we saw the prices. DoA.
>>98444303>Giant Grey BlockI like that tank.
>>98444303Team Yankee but it ain't alternating activation
>>98444327Didn't Sludge try that?
>>98444343Front Mission tabletop when? Eisenfaust is trying but it's one dude and it's not going places anytime soon, want me a 1:1.
>>98444303What a Tanker? I don't know it's more of a party game maybe.also>those tanks on the picI fucking hate WoT so much
>>98444407Nah, it was just turnip with different rules, which itself is just fantasy napoleonics.
>>98444407yes, regarding the use of historical minishttps://www.relicblade.com/collecting-an-army
>>98444407>Sludge>SLUDGE IS A MINIATURE AGNOSTIC WARGAME RULESET BY ESTEEMED GAME DESIGNER SEAN SUTTERShould I care about that? I've never heard of him, and why is he only esteemed and not renowned?
>>98444407Sludge is a great set of rules and I love the triple base infantry units that no one else seems to do. It's a shame it never took off
>>98444407Thats kindof what Im talking about, in Sludge's case its mostly based around shooting though, which actually limits what you can do in regards to historics. 90% of what you make will be using a gun, which rules out a lot of extensive model ranges like victrix. Id like to see something that HAS ranged stuff, but its primarily based on melee and basically lets you lift historical stuff and drop it in, and you can tweak them and add bits to them as far as your willing to go to make them distinct to the setting.Like I would love to rip off something like the videogame Kenshi, where you have knights in the same setting as samurai, but there are also robots and mechanical limbs etc. So instead of knights lets say its celts from victrix, and instead of samurai its napoleonic guys from perry miniatures. Just base the factions on different existing model ranges and then tweak them from there.>the "tribes" in this setting like robotics, so you can kitbash robo arms onto some victrix celts/barbarians, and their ranged weapons are more harpoon guns and crossbows. You can also elaborate on this and pully from medieval ranges for different army themes, the focus is that they are more "rough" looking and less advanced>the napoleonic guys are professional soldiers, theres less of them in an army but they get more guns. They focus primarily on using polearm weapons. They get good rider units too. Can give them non historic shit like cloaks and armoured arms from other rangesShit like that, just pick model ranges and eras and make them factions, but have enough sci fi shit there to let people kitbash cool stuff.
>>98443965Of that list Future War Commander. 1st edition is better than second cause Pendraken are retarded british boomers who can't be bothered to do a cursory edit of their work. Plus they removed the DIY unit stat section in order to sell more models.
>>98444272I assume this is just to get the paypigs and after a year or two they'll release a boxed set just like Battle For Nuka World for Fallout Factions. The minis and rulebook have normalish prices, the real gouging is charging $20 for regular dice, 30 dollars for tokens that should be punchboard, and 20 dollars for reference cards.
>>98444286I blame Marvel Crisis Protocol for showing that you can charge absolute crackhead prices and people will eat it up if it's a popular enough IP.
>>98444753It still boggles me that game survives, despite AMG's incompetence, and the fact that you can just buy anything they make, in a better sculpt they could ever dream for 7 bucks plus postage off Etsy.
>>98444408My dude, I love you, but if Square/Enix are going to make any of their properties a tabletop wargame first, they aren't going to start with the effectively dead franchise that they keep adding nails to it's coffin, they're going to make a 1 to 1 adaptation of Final Fantasy Tactics, with a campaign book full of original characters and a compelling plotline that turns out to just be Shakespeares Henry V with the serial numbers filed off.
>>98444490For Wargaming this is them being fairly restrained. All of those tanks actually existed... just about in the case of the Maus. At least it's not any of the Tier 11 designed in ChatGPT things, or the ridiculous "coastal defence" Twin-Barrelled british designs they just conjured out of their asses to keep the content train rolling.
>>98445003don't even mention them...
>>98445019Honestly, I'm enjoying the hell out of WoT HEAT these days. It's as doomed as Steel Hunters was for sure, but while it lasts I'm going to get my games in.
>>98443893>why do they look womanishGo look at the OG XCom art. You'll see.>>98444078I don't like their chest-plates or some of the helmets. They're still objectively the best kit on the market unless you want Evil Dead or Harryhausen skellies, though.>>98444541He's a goober and an artist first and foremost. Made Relicblade himself, from the ground up. Writes good rules, has a unique art style, and the one time I met him at a convention he seemed a decent sort. But that doesn't matter. The game does.>Why not renownedLet's be honest, if your name's not Joe or some ex-GW staffer, it's a rare person who gives a shit>>98444583>triple base infantry unitsThat was started by Of Gods and Mortals/Test of Honour, a couple other games do it as well. It's common enough that you can get custom MDF group bases from most of the third party lasercutters now. I do like the convention, it's a nice midpoint between skirmish order movement trays (which are ugly) and the tedium of moving forty models every turn
>>98440908>>98443866If you don't mind softish plastic, look to see if you can find a cheap copy of Galaxy Defenders from Ares Games. Clearly meant to be an X-com knockoff and should have plenty of figures that would work with the rules.
>>98444992I didn'y say anything about corporate involvement. We have the games and all the stats, there is even files floating around of front mission 3 gamerips for models, those models are not at all suited to printing though need someone who knows what they're doing to convert it.Community passion projects are the best games, profit driven endeavours are less than stellar.
All this XCOM stuff reminded me that I had grabbed a PDF of INEPTT a while ago. That's a weird one in that it's meant to have a GM adjudicating everything.
>>98445397Played a game of Oathmark today. The scenario was that the attacker (other guy) chose five of his infantry units, and had to get at least three of them across the board by turn 7.
>>98446016I brought this force, including spending a full third of my army on the Dragon. My opponent and I built our forces without knowing the scenario. Turns out, he'd brought a lot more units, quantity over quality, and figured out that by spreading his escort units wide he could make it so I couldn't engage them all.
>>98446027The battle was fairly even. I killed two of his five escort units and the other three made it across. My dragon was effectively invincible and killed everything it touched, it's good the 2E book is nerfing it. I had fun.
>>98446016>>98446027>>98446035Very nice game, I'm sure it was loads of fun. Pretty bad terrain though, I must say. I really dislike the era we are in with the "battle mat + random terrain spattered about" look as the standard. Anyways , hope you had fun, anon. I wish you lived closer to me, I'd treat you a good game of Oathmark on a proper table!

>>98446278>>98446286>>98446286I fucking hate this game so much, you would not believe. Also, people charging the price of a full real physical model just to get an STL should be a felony, yet it seems to be getting more and more common. What gives? Who is buying this shite?
>>98446410>Who is buying this shite?Currently 186 people paying an average of $149 each.

>>98446216Yeah I didn't read sarcasm or anything in your post. Pretty sure you genuinely asked for some inspiration.I laugh at your pajeets but I respect you for posting this much pictures and AAR. I played a game of Ronin few days ago and couldn't be bothered to get the phone out.
>>98446965He got accused of having a bad table and his response was a snarky equivalent of "post models" If you can't detect sarcasm from a guy who is well known in this general for being sarcastic and combative, you might be slightly autistic. This is the same guy that painted an entire pajeet army out of spite because someone laughed at him for painting one of his Brits in a turban. >>98447112>HE WASTED HOURS OF HIS LIFEOn his hobby. You sound far more butthurt than he ever has. Go paint some pakis and chill the fuck out.
>>98443965I only played Laserstorm (both versions) and it's fine. It's easy to learn, plays fast and combat is quite deadly. You can design your own units from the scratch or use one from the pre-built lists. Activation is by chit pull/card, you activate a whole formation and some cards can be saved for later to do reactions. Units are formed around these formations so for example you can have a group of 3 Infantry stands representing 1 whole "platoon".There's special rules for all kind of things like hordes and jumpack troops, off map support and campaigns.Railgun 2100 is the sci-fi version of Fistful of TOWs made by the same author. It uses D10s instead of D6s. It looks good but also somewhat dated since you need to consult a resolution chart for combat resolution. Also it was never fully completed.Strike Legion is more crunchy than Laserstorm but you can also create your own units and play operational level games.FWC it's also crunchy but it seems quite solid and less convulted than Strike Legion.

Combined arms scifi, should I do 6mm or 10mm? Im really struggling to visualize the size difference between the two since I haven't ever seen them in person. Therese, my Assault managed to get John Wickensian at point black with her shotgun against multiple sectoids, although a 10 when she least wanted it caused the Rookie to get splattered. Meanwhile after multiple blips spawned 3 sectiods and an Outsider to hover behind a small hillock for cover my Heavy pulled out his Rocket Launcher and erased the lot. Meanwhile, my final survivor from Mission 1 snagged what turned out be a point of Research off the ground before him and the other remaining Rookie chased down the final sectoid. One guy from mission 1 got promoted to a Heavy, and my heavy got promoted up to Corporal. The extra point of research from the Alien Resource allowed me to finish my research project a turn early, and my newly built Workshop immediately went to work on building me my first SHIV. I set the Lab to start work on the tech that will give me Carapace Armour, as losing rookies to lucky armour rolls is getting old, and afterwards I'll probably have to focus on getting Laser Weapons before Alien Containment. There's a wide range of games that are /awg/ some of which are quite rule heavy, granular or specific, and some that are very light and easy to modify. There's room for all of those things, that's the idea. While it can seem helpful to say >just do whatever man it tends to not be as helpful as you'd think if someone is new and asking for advice. Its easier to make up or improvise on the spot if you have experience, but for those with less, the seemingly obvious is a lot less intuitive and taking the 30 seconds to make a more in depth reply not only helps out whoever is asking but also anyone else wandering through and creates more engaging conversation in general.

>>98455306I've been toying with a mechanic for activation using a traditional 52 card deck. You set a card face down next to each of your units, then you and the opponent reveal all cards simultaneously. The suit determines the type of action (clubs for melee, diamonds for shooting, etc) and the number determines initiative order (resolve a 10 of clubs before a 9 of hearts)Could be neat.
>>98455553Sounds legitimately fucking terrible to me.
>>98455550I forget what game it was but you would have a selection of cards that you place face down and during the game you can turn them face up to reveal a "trap" or order or some shit, I thought that seemed neat. >>98455558What if I make it four different colors of dice you keep hidden from the other guy?
>>98455553Dead Man's Hand does this for initiative. Further card mechanics revolve depend on your faction and the cards in your actual hand. Cards played from the hand can have a variety of effects, and you can play any number of them a turn, but you only draw 1 card per turn you play a card, creating a neat ad hoc stamina system.Otherwise a standard wild west shootout.

If there's tighter listbuilding rules for organized play (ie some kind of points budget) we don't have it yet. But there's definitely no era or universe locking or named character limit; the only restriction is "no two of the exact same unit" - meaning you can have both Amuro Bazooka RX-78 and Amuro Beam Rifle RX-78, but not two Amuro Bazookas. ("Mass Produced" units get to ignore this specific rule, so you can in fact just field a team of all the exact same Zaku 1, but the size of lists limits how much spam you can actually do and there'll end up being 200 different versions of Zaku 1 to choose from anyways, there's already like 5 announced.) There's no particular requirement to use named characters, but yeah, tournament lists will end up looking something like "Unicorn, Unicorn NTD, and GQuuux Char" or whatever.
>>98455602It can be, with a ridiculous enough number of hoops. Like bounded probability. With a deck of cards is easy limit the number of high and low results a player can get in a row. >>98458306Needs to be thematic, rather than just a genetic "mech" game.Gundam sits on the borderline between "super" and "real robot" territory, and asymmetrical battles feature heavily in the show.Any Gundam game will want a good facility for scenario and objective play, and a point buy system that makes running a single "super unit" viable, as well as mobbing with mooks.Borrow the speed = harder to hit angle from the Battletech rules, but the franchise is huge with non-gamers, so I'd keep the tracking of internal systems simplified. Also, Minovsky particle interference should make reinforcements likely to arrive in the wrong area, or rounds late, due to comms breakdown.
>>98453097I guess Mechastellar has a new source of Gundam figures.
>>98458025 I fairness to Bandai, SEED sells. In absolutely INSANE amounts too. Like, I really cannot understate just how financially successful SEED was. There's reasons why they're still making Anime's and kits for it to this day.
>>98458133>>98458209>>98458499Hi Tony.
I'm tempted to multi-base for the very first time. The concept never done it for me since I play skirmish games mostly and most of them utilise the single-model units design but OPR Skirmish has those 3-man units and I may be willing to sacrifice a few dudes for that.
>>98459493>OPR Skirmishmehat first I thought you are getting into SLUDGE
>>98459524I played it in the past with movement trays, quite fun game. Dropped it rather quickly because it didn't catch enough of my playgroup's attention unfortunately.
Why is Konflikt 47' so unpopular given how many old guard GW folks are behind it? art style too tame compared to Trench Crusade? wierd war elements to alienating to historical grogs that company usually caters to?
>>98459550Unfortunate indeed.
>>98460024>Axis got their balls clipped>Allies look mega gay, especially the Brit robotsI'll just play Bolt Action tyvm.
>>98460024Weird War and alt history in general tends to have the problem of not being historical enough for the history fans and being too similar to history for the weirdos so it ends up being niche in a niche that lasts as long as the most enthusiastic core keeps it going but can't really catch on or get big.
>>98458799I know, I like SEED. I'm the one mad they're gouging on SEED. But I also have plenty of Astrays and think other people should get a turn to have their gundams made.I had to wait 25 years to get Vandread Dita. Can't imagine someone having to wait for something from Zeta.
>>98458524I'd have it be a giant series crossover, and have a spaceship board with hexes you place your mecha on before deploying them, with different ships having different configurations so one ship could have 14 hexes, but most of them were single hex so it could only carry fighters and real robots. The trick would be balancing Gundams versus Grendizer and Voltes in a satisfying why, and translating the SRW morale and spirit systems into something that doesn't require a lot of bookkeeping.
>>98460024>>98460144>>98460270I think there's a market for a solid dieselpunk WWI - WWII era wargame but I don't expect Warlord to nail it.
How would you guys feel about a system for melee combat where you roll a large die (d10,12,20) to hit and a roll a d6 for an effect, where on 6 you can choose to strike the head or use a weapon ability like parryig for swords, extra armor damage for warhamners, hitting first for spears, etc.
>>98460463Crimson Skies is the only one that did this kind of thing well, instead of reusing the same Wolfenstein shit that'snot as cool in practice; but its Weird Interwar. Maybe you could do something cool with Nazi vampires ala Hellsing.
>>98460490As long as I can roll both of them at the same time and the special effects are both known ahead of time and different for different equipment I'm down.
>>98460510>Maybe you could do something cool with Nazi vampires ala Hellsing.Sadly in these modern times, playing historical German armies can get you called a Nazi, doxxed and harassed. Imagine if you made a cool setting with Nazi vampires and stuff like Hellsing? The amount of crazy people online frothing in abject hate and demanding your blood and the death of your family and friends if they do not disown you and hand you to the mob would be a regular thing. Identity Politics on all sides are a shitshow and a powder keg, all it would take is one retard with nothing to lose attacking a company or employees to make things even worse.
>>98460611I mean i get it. I dont really want to be the 'nazi guy' at my locals but also really like the Tottenrotte army in Konflikt.
>>98460644The aesthetics and concepts of Weird War Germany and even real life WW1 and 2 Germany are great, it just becomes exhausting to be treated like a criminal for showing any level of interest in either without being branded as a criminal or monster.
It's from an RPG but I always thought All Flesh Must Be Eaten's weird war 2 setting would be cool for a wargame. Basically the Nazis, Soviets, and America all figured out how to make zombie soldiers in different ways, so the Nazis have more intelligent and openly malevolent undead that are coded like vampires (but they are zombies) leading less intelligent "normal" zombies, the Soviets figured out electromagnetic undead controlled by radio and directed as big swarms by communication trucks, and the Americans figured out chemical "super soldiers" that perform better than any normal human without losing any mental faculties, happen to not have heart beats or blood flow, and which have urges for human flesh that increase in urgency over time. Shit's fucked for everyone.
I had my first game of Steel Rift today, a mech skirmish game. Had a good time, it plays pretty quick since it's on a small board with fairly fast units and high damage output. One of its quirks is you don't roll to hit you only declare your engagement and then your opponent makes dodge rolls which means the smaller mechs can get away with a bit of risky movement while the larger mechs have to sit there and take it and be careful about exposure.
>>98460874It pretty fast since there aren't phases you can be blasting away from the getgo, we each lost a heavy mech turn 1 and by turn 5 I only had one unit and my opponent had run out of missiles and couldn't kill them.
>>98460865Man, I loved AFMBE.
>>98460865All Flesh Must Be Eaten has lore?Or are you missing the quote post?
>>98460865The way it works in K47 is the americans nuke testing found different results and the bomb was dropped on Dresden and Iwo Jima instead. The mass bodies, in enough of a piece, get up and become mindless undead and their bites make further undead. The germans corral them with special armored commanders leading 'units' of them around called the Tottenkorps while in Japan they are basically wild animals called Shibito.
>>98460874never heard of this, thanks for sharing it.
I hate the advent of 3D Printing.
>>98461125NTA, but it has several settings, each with its rules for zombies and explanations on why things turned out that way.
>>98461264I mostly hate how retarded is the way STL files are sold.>oh you did not know my product existed and you miss the patron?>well fuck you I'm not putting the digital file to sale>1 picto second in telegrama>entire stl files from the guy that refuses to sell it to me>some how I'm in the wrong for looking up the second hand market for something you are not currently selling
>>98461286Huh. I just remember the 1999 game that was pretty much a toolbox for zombie games. Good to know
>>98461264The thing I dislike most about proonters is the "Just print it" argument. No, mother fucker, I won't buy a proonter just so I can print some bat wings for a dude.>But the benefits outweigh the costs!Like fuck they do, proonting if a cash blackhole.
>>98461307I have a friend that has a small resin printer. Between the 6 of us, all printing a new army. We still only manage to use it for like 6 month before we kind of run out of things we wanted to print that was not just printing for printing sake (like hoarding kits)We printed, warmaster armies, space fleets, entire armies for random game systems and even test models for my dumb wargame. Even armies for the kids and now it is gathering dust.
>>98461358The cost of that printer & material vs buying the 6 armies?
>>98461402You are kind of missing the point. It only got some value back because my friend had other 5 people. The "Just print it" folks usually are on the camp of buy a printer just to get some wings. Unless you have a friend with a printer you will have to pay someone else to print it for you. This printer guys usually charge you for the time it takes to print than the materials used. Resulting in similar prices of a regular model. Making the entire exercise of "Just print it" rather pointless.
>>98455306But Anon, how else can companys nickle and dime you with pointless accessories if they don't make games that require a bajillion cards and widgets? Won't you please think of the poor companys and their institutional investors.
>>98461436Right, you will only ever need one more bit and then you're done hobbying forever.
>>98460607Yeah, that's why I wanted two different dice. I'm going for a simplified Renaissance Battletech, with mechs acting a bit like Renaissance war galleys.
>>98461450>Dude you need a printer, just trust me bro
>>98461294It is a toolbox, but they released a few books worth of example settings for it, including some pretty far stretches just to show that the system can handle it, like generic fantasy stuff.
>>98461502The best you got is a strawman that doesn't exist and an anecdote proving it was worth it.
>>98461473>with mechs acting a bit like Renaissance war galleys. This sounds all kinds of neat. Post when you've got playtest rules anon.
>>98460490If your effect is strictly on 6 then you need a solid argument to use that dice instead of rolling arbitrary numbers on your regular dice.Rolling a 6 on a D6 is about 17% odds vs 10% for 10 on a D10 so if you feel like you really need that 17% thing you could make your game D10 only but activate effects on 9 and 10 which is 20% chances. If you want to keep that D6 for other reasons I encourage you to find other use for it than on a roll of 6. Maybe you could let your players chose between adding their D6 rolls to their melee test OR cashing the result so they can activate special effect once they stored high enough on an arbitrary thresholds (6/8/10).
>>98460874>roll to not get hit could be interesting. Sounds almost armour core inspired. How does it do mech activation? Its been sitting in my >maybe list for a while.
>>98461307The problem with printerfags is that they get so excited by the technology that they forget that, like any specialty tool, its not for everyone. They so want it to be Star Trek, when in reality, its more like buying a lathe for woodworking, if you're really into it, it may be a good investment, but for most people, its not.
>>98460874>>98460882AT anon???!?! The FUCK is this?TRAITOR
>>98455306Armoured Clash uses a card mechanic with it's dice mechanic. It's really fucking smooth

>>98461358Your group evidently got an enourmous amount of utility from it in a relatively short period.>>98461436>>98461307We are in a niche of a niche hobby. People looking out for one another by doing """favours""" is mutually beneficial, whether that's one another saving greeblies from a product for somebody to scratchbuild with, looking out for second hand stuff, or shiting out some prints. The bar's usually set as low as just being worth playing a game with. I highly doubt anyone is telling anyone to buy a printer for a single scratchbuilding component. People print stuff for me all the time, for free. Components to enhance terrain is an obvious example where the group has directly benefited. Years ago I was teased when I found the website for a defunct firm making nice windows and doors and similar items for buildings. Mate of mine just ran a plate full of them for me, easy as.>>98461593I can't think of an interest I've got where some people new too it, or new to a part of it, aren't overly excited (often people with autism, which for obvious reasons I'd expect wargamers to have more tolerance and understanding of), and I can't think of an example where the contrarians reacting to them don't end up more annoying and more stupid. This conversation is good evidence of that.
>>98458209>>98458499Get a life Tony
A good FDM printer used for terrain is indispensable. Printing minis, and resin printing in general, is super gay. I have never seen a STL mini that doesn't look like slop. The only case I could see for resin minis being decent are super small scale 6 or 10mm >pic related, terrain I just printed
Also, I have been considering printing a 3d campaign map like this guy did, just on a less grand scale. Could be awesome to move and maneuver armies around the battlefield and make your table terrain more or less meet on the table like a castle, village, river, mountain pass, fields etc. https://youtu.be/MjJIdFTPVBA?si=y_gJ5apjx8fWdb5Q
>>98461947>Printing minis, and resin printing in general, is super gay.ok, sure>I have never seen a STL mini that doesn't look like slopretardironic while you post your rectangle boxes with tiled roof tier terrain for the fifth time as the coolest shit ever
>>98461969Post models/terrain >rectangle boxes with tiled roofYes anon that's called a building kek
>>98453097I wish this was less ExVS and more closer to something like Battletech or equally autistic. Ah well, I'll still piggy for it as will my playgroup.
>>98461972>Post models/terrain I recently got a bunch of old Citadel models printed>Yes anon that's called a building kekwhat I am saying is that you are printing something you could relatively easily make yourself because it's so simple while you talk shit about other uses of printing that are much harder to do otherwise
>>98460463We're autosaging so I can say it. >I think there's a market for a solid dieselpunk WWI - WWII era wargamewas Trench Crusade.
>>98451654
>>98461569I thought that a choice between weapon ability or headshot could be cool, but I was worried about parry type abilities being overly dominant if they can be used all the time.Since my intended system for ranged weapons was the the d6 determines hit location, with 6 being a headshot; if melee weapons hit the upper half by default, 6 can still be a headshot or a weapon ability. And maybe skilled pilots improve this threshold by lowering the TN or adding a die for best of X.
