>be city from real history>mogs 99% of cities from fantasy in terms of how fantastical it is
>>98443907This is my world's fantasy city. It has tons of cool landmarks that would be super impractical irl, because the leaders have tons of excess slaves and money but nothing to do with it. It also has the tallest building in my world.
>>98443907>huge infrastructural effort to build giant harbor wall and gate>a few small rickety piers inside???

blessed thread
A lot of these illustrations are are very nice, but I feel they underrepresent the rings of shanty slums surrounding these cities

Anybody got shithole village in the middle of a cursed forest type shit?
>>98449209A bit yeah.
>>98449057And? It's a solid reconstruction of the city aside from a few specific details, like the canals extending directly to the central precinct and surrounding it like a moat when that wouldn't have been the caseYou're not the first person to call out the Minecraft reconstruction but I don't get the focus on it, it's not like reconstructions in Minecraft are inherently less accurate
>>98443907>fantasy citiesthat's a fantasy small town
>>98446952Reminds me of Madripoor from Marvel, place is full of criminals.
>>98450006Take it easy, I just found it funny. Are you mesoamerica-anon from /his/, by the way? I vaguely remember something like this from a couple years back when that place was still semi-useable.
>>98451505Yes

Anyone got any Venice-like city artwork?
this is my fantasy city. it is called the kings hill and was built on the ruins of an ancient civilization and the bridges from that time are warded artifacts for defensive purposes that used to block any humanoids from passing them. many millenia later the enchantment has degraded with the passage of time and the bridges can be safely crossed once per day by each of the humanoid inhabitants.
>>98444019Fuck dinotopia is so cool.
>>98443911>neat looking canal city>it's separated by waterfallscomplete and utter shit. Not only does this make the canals entirely useless for transportation, but the main flow of water down the middle will leave the other radial branches to stagnate without a constant flow. But more than that, the implied geography of this image just makes no god damn sense at all
>>98452861That's why trenches and mines were a thing in 17th century warfare
>>98446952>have tons of excess slaves and money but nothing to do with itExcept comissioning vast amounts of Draenei futa porn and hire white girl influencers to eat their shit
>>98444046Great art , do you know the name of the author ?

>>98470409
>>98443907would not yonder castle town be vulnerable to attack from upriver?
>>98470440Yeah, many of these aren't well thought (or well generated).like this >>98470341
>>98470573>like thisIt's a smaller version of a larger image, the gap in the walls is completely blocked by mountains, it's basically unassailable.
>>98470440Significantly mitigated if the city belongs to a nation that controls the upriver
>>98456106This sounds like the beginning of a Professor Layton puzzle
>>98444019Fuck ya, more James Guerny art!We need some Waterfall City up in here!
>>98470921>it's basically unassailableNo it is not, anyone can clearly use that area (marked with red on PICREL) to just get into the city so easily, there's even forest in that very gap/slope, and it's ironically the closest to the castle. But I'll understand if you want to continue to defend it as a great example of a fictional unassailable city because you posted it, because it is an important topic for you, and because you want to save face at your own thread, you do you, to each their own.My point stand still, many of these aren't well thought, they are just isekai tier slop fictional illustrations made without any real passion, nothing to get serious about to defend as "unassailable". You can keep telling me I'm wrong, but "There are none so blind as those who don't want to see." and "A picture is worth a thousand words." You can also insult me if that makes you feel better, I don't care. I understand this is important to you but it is not important for me, no autism compels me to obsess about these sort of "cool fantasy cities" images.
>isekai tier slop
>>98471861If you think you can march soldiers through that you've never done any hiking.
>>98475866It's a perfect place to pull out an inflitration.
>>98443907I'm never gonna stop loving floating islands. Never.>>98470409>from rings of powerPardon my schizo theory, but I think the design team on that city knew it was gonna be bad but wanted to give it their all to at least have something nice in their portfolio. Maybe being a shiny gem in a pile of feces makes things look better so they had more incentive to do better.>>98471864Are isekai circle cities an "in joke meme" repeated by isekai writers as a nod to each other? Or is there something more to it?
>>98471864
>>98479858
>>98443907>cities>there's a bunch of fields and sheepfolds and shit *inside the city walls*Every goddamn time. Drives me nuts.
>>98475911So put some guys there. Do you know why gatehouses were the most heavily defended parts of a wall? Because the gate was the easiest spot to break through. If one spot on your wall is an obvious spot to sneak people in...watch that spot.
>>98452861>getting mad on behalf of the ancestorskek
>>98479421>Are isekai circle cities an "in joke meme" repeated by isekai writers as a nod to each other? Or is there something more to it?Probably animator laziness.
>>98480232Nah, they could cut off work more for that matter. Besides it's a city on a flat plain, it's not gonna be hard to just have that forest on the left side or whatever, the single elements are simple.Inside joke.
>>98471864>>98479858>>98479864This is what Sigil is going to look like in 2018.
>>98480205>watch that spotover even 48 hours will consist of building defensive structures instead of a formation of men awkwardly stood staring at a massive gap in their comically large wall(s)gatehouses were a requirement to be mitigated, this is just stupid
>>98444668What do they eat
slop i generated for my home game. crazy how far its come
>>98479421>Are isekai circle cities an "in joke meme" repeated by isekai writers as a nod to each other? Or is there something more to it?IIRC the Isekai Cityscape has a very similar in layout to Seoul, which people complained about saying that jap writers were pandering to the korean market.
>>98482649sandits why they're in that predicament to begin with
>>98480259If I recall correctly, someone on /a/ years ago compared the isekai cities to a map of Seoul, and it looks like the animators took one specific spot, drew a circle around it, and made the circle a city wall.
>>98482891I think it might just be the studios outsourcing to Korea rather than pandering.
>>98450213Fuck yeah I've been looking for this image. In my Not!MagicArabia the heavy magic causes the tides to have a seasonal Wax and a seasonal Wane that causes the tide to recede for miles and miles which allows access to sunken cities, caves, and shipwrecks. In the time it Wanes for miles, treasure seekers and academic expeditions rush out to investigate these ruins and caves but the time that it Waxes is unpredictable and there's a real danger of getting caught in the rushing tide.
>>98471864Where’s the farmland that would be needed to feed such a large town?
>>98483499That just moves the question. Why do Koreans have a platonic ideal of a fantasy walled city?
>>98495629I presume that they're just copying what they've seen done by othersisekai isn't exactly known for creativity and originality
>>98479858>left not a circle but a polygonI mean it already stands out. Is the bar that low?
