I was so far gone from years of alcohol abuse that the delirium tremors any time I stopped drinking made it impossible for me to do any of my work without drinking. I couldn't do my job without being drunk and I couldn't paint without being drunk. I woke up drinking and I went to bed drinking for almost five consecutive years. It came to a head when I almost died from alcohol poisoning when I just collapsed in public after binging to try to calm my nerves before I proposed to my girlfriend. Thankfully my fiance was with me and got me to a hospital where they pumped my stomach and got me fluids. I don't remember the first night in the ER at all I was so blacked out and I don't even remember making my marriage proposal from a crash cart while the doctor told me I was lucky to be alive and my BAC was almost twice the lethal dose. We had a really heartfelt conversation and I swore I would get sober before we got married. She stayed with me through the most awful withdrawals of my life and the meds the doctor gave me to help keep my heart from exploding made me even more sick while I turned into a crazed animal begging for a drink.
>What was the result?
My models looked like shit and I couldn't paint for almost three months. Got married a year later and sober for three years now.

Eyo, last thread I mentioned was doing a 1-1 converting a slaanesh force using my heroes infinite subscription. I've done the heroes but for infantry, cav and beasts I had a question to slaanesh players.
If I want a decent amount of models to mix n match when im list building how many of each unit would i need?
I was thinking on the following but would like advice:
20 deamonettes
30 blissbarb archers
10 mymidesh
10 twinsouls
10 deamonette seekers
10 slickblades seekers
10 blissbard seekers
6 fiends of slaanesh
6 slaangors.

It was a forge world unit based on the idea of using the scraplauncher's rhinox as steed, except they somehow made it twice as big along the way.

A lot of the meta plot hinges on Archaon never bothering to talk to Teclis about the chains
>>
>>98447584
Why would he?

Archaon is satan, why would Teclis talk with him? Bruh what even. It's a secret only the Aelven gods are in on - one they didn't even disclose to their allies. Why would Teclis tell Archaon about it? Archaon, the champion of the dark gods?

Looking swell, is the plan to run him as a generic regent or lyrior in-game? I have no idea how good either one is.
I don't really care for lumineth in general but I do REALLY like this model and the dawnriders. If they ever put that shit in a spearhead I'm jumping on it
>>
>>98447935
Definitely Lyrior. Generic regent is a few steps from being as bad as his dArK miRrOR, the Akhelian King. Standard hero combat profile+crit mortal with a OPB +1 to hit/-1 to be hit, Reroll charges for LRL wholly within…6 inches. An absolute fall from grace compared to the index version that led a list lovingly referred to as the “Rohan build”.
>>
>>98447956
huh, I was under the impression that the akhelian king was pretty damn good? But it's been a while since I kept up with tomes and stuff. Looking at the scroll at a glance it seems alright
>>
>>98447968
It wouldn’t be nearly as bad(maybe even quite good) if his ability affected companion weapons, which is where Deepkin’s damage is. The only units that would really benefit from his rend boost as it is are the Morrsarr guard or the Ikons.

So reading the new Ogor book since my box showed up on time. This shit's really interesting, it's less that the ogors are returning to tradition and more just Morga kinda killing off the one guy keeping them reasonable and now the ogor's are effectively just giving into their worst instincts and going full greedy. Also pretty neat Grell is the one revealing all the lore in the book in a conversation with Callis and Toll, I like when the secondary characters kinda dish out all the lore, like in the FEC book having it be mostly Goremayne.

ALSO I gotta say it's gonna be much easier to kitbash new and old considering the new gluttons are still doing the stupid one foot in front of the other pose. If you really want to as well you can shave off the front half of the new ogor gutplates to slot in the old ones!
>>
>>98448741
>>98448749

>>
>>98448070
I dunno I remember enjoying those as a kid. I remember constantly checking out the star wars ones from my local library and just looking at all the cool pictures, if kids get to see all the cool bullshit from AOS without needing the models I think that's a win.
>>
>>98448781
Every battletome has it. 40k too now. It's a 6th edition WHF thing or something
Feels really awkward imo, we should have various POVs with ambiguity about authenticity instead of the same objective facts from 1-3rd edition with a lazy framing
>>
>>98448820
>we should have various POVs with ambiguity about authenticity

They do have that at times with quotes but I do see your point in having the named characters being the ones as the narrators might get a bit old.
>>
>>98448070
Is this some kind of discusiona out models? Like poitig out Fyreslayers ave keys or that Varanguard have god marked bits?
>>
>>98448826
In orruk warclans it's just a random Hobgrot, the main issue is that unlike WHF the attempt at world building feels a bit shallow. You should have one overarching pov that interacts with others, finds documents, stories, etc imo

What is the point of this? It's so soulless. Even old citadel catalogues were better
>>

Because GW don't know how to balance them and are too scared to let their ranged power go out of hand like they did with LRL.
>>
>>98448873
>the main issue is that unlike WHF the attempt at world building feels a bit shallow

I mean, that's kinda on GW for basically doing dickall for worldbuilding. AOS has gotten the most barebones treatment in comparison to 40k and AOS because GW barely releases extra supplementary fluff material, video games, and puts out very few books.
>>
>>98448901
Ko are always busted or underpowered. It's just a natural consequence of them being essentially a 40k army stuck inside aos. Pretty hard to finetune

have leakers mentioned the end of edition campaign at all? Starting to think there won't be one, and instead we'll just get a series of releases or something and an online lead into the game's squatting/rebranding

not that the ghb's have ever been a strong source of lore, but the latest one especially looks like throw away slop, I get the feeling we're stuck in the waiting room until 5e for anything that feels fresh, but that's been the case since kragnos's dumbass showed up
>>
>They still think the Rebranding nonsense will happen.

LOL. LMAO, even.
>>
>>98449978
They won't rebrand, but the joining of the lands will happen. Most people won't know nor care, and will be confused if anyone tries to tell them.
>>
>>98449978
it's very strange how people think the game would benefit from TLW or anything like that. It makes no sense from a lore perspective or a business one. Truly a strange "leak" that will never ever happen.
>>
>>98448075
Sylvaneth are so fucking cool
>>
>>98449937
>have leakers mentioned the end of edition campaign at all?
something about dwarfs and lizards going on the offensive, then getting pushed back by skaven, and liberated slaanesh, then the final attack of chaos into azyr
>>
>>98450022
it's not that I think any of those statements are true or not true, it's that multiple leakers that have repeatedly shared accurate information about releases all have reported a shift in the game's lore/marketing/vibe.

i'd be happy if they just fixed the shit rules and made the game fun again but that's probably the least likely outcome here
>>
>>98450041
Wait a second... that's just the plot of End Times.
>>
>>98450046

>>
>>98450041
What if Slaanesh got liberated but she was sooooo weak and was still shattered between slaanussy shards and it wa slike that whole freeing slaanesh storyline didn't happen
>>
>>98449151
God damn it's so good. He looks like he stepped off a comic book panel.
>>
>>98448075
Those battletome battle scense have been consistantly cool
>>
>>98450050
yep, they're soft rebooting Age of Sigmar with a pseudo-End Times. Or that's the rumor anyways. After Azyr gets smashed by Chaos, the remaining Realms get fused together into a new planet and then they rewrite all the lore to be closer to WHFB to try and appeal to the TOW crowd. That means all the gods are gone or unable to manifest, Stormcast are now a dying breed, the Slann go senile (again) and the free cities become little nations desperately holding their land against infinite tides of Chaos warriors
>>
>>98450050
dwarfs and lizards didn't do shit in the end times, and slaanesh was the least involved of the 4 brothers in it
>>
>>98450077
my best guess is GW would be fools to make massive changes to the game and then flop on the marketing front in getting attention drawn to it.

I don't believe they'll call it fifth edition, but Age Of Sigmar: The Last World, with all the boxes and tomes etc having the AoS portion downplayed as subtext.

100% believe they'll cut the double turn as well. Fits into their latest trend to pander to tourneybros and it's been a poison pill since 1e. I don't know what will replace it or if they even want to replace it, they might not care to be a shallow clone of 40k.
>>
>>98450077
That's FUCKING GAY AS HELL. Fantasychuds will NEVER touch AoS no matter HOW MUCH they change it to be like fantasy
>>
>>98450130
the aim is not to attract fantasyfags but 40kfags
>>
>>98450115
They'll quietly abandon the Age of Sigmar branding about six months into 5th/The Last World
>>98450130
yeah it's a pretty horrible plan. Which is why most people in this thread are hoping someone sane at GW tells them this is a horrible idea and they abort before it's too late. All they'll do is push away the people who actually like AoS and none of the WHFB oldfags/TOW newfags will ever be interested because they've already made up their minds about what AoS is
>>
>>98450130
Too late, they've done little but chase after that to the detriment of the game and now we're getting dwarf soup for more of it
>>
>>98450061
I just don't think they have a real reason to keep slaanesh trapped, or in any case different from the other gods, especially now that the risk of it getting squatted is long passed and the elves got repopulated
>>
>>98447062
No, Gore Gruntas have a habit of eating people WITH the armored on, and their stomachs can't digest the iron, which comes out the other end and gets used by the Ironjawz.
It's got nothing to do with quality.
>>
>>98450130
desu I can't tell what's a parody or not with the tow posts

both games together take up maybe 1/10th the sales 40k does, the state of fantasy wargaming in general looks grim.
>>
>>98450182
The squatted threat was never real because they featured in the realm gate war campaign books with original art almost immediately
The narrative always said slaanesh was trapped, probably as a gimmick because excess is a little vague to base an army off alone given Khorne is excess slaughter and tzeentch greed. Slaanesh as a faction is way more interesting for the absence, whereas the others feel a bit deflated given how irrelevant the gods actually aren
>>
>>98450215
Oh no, they absolutely considered ditching slaanesh at some point. Someone with half a brain just knew it wouldn't go over well and convinced them to do the comic book thing of "Have them go missing and if no one cares they actually died" The narrative at the VERY beginning didn't actually say slaanesh was trapped, just MIA, at a later point we found out they were trapped, but there was a small period of time where that wasn't the case.
You also gotta remember that around the same time that happened, they made a big hullabaloo in 40k about the yncarnate which was supposed to be a massive threat to specifically slaanesh, was treated as extremely important in the lore, and then ended up being completely dropped and essentially abandoned. That was 100% going to be their out in 40k to get rid of Slaanesh had things gone another way, but they didn't and now 40k's stuck with a character that was created solely as a plot device to a now long abandoned plot thread.
>>
>>98450313
Not only dropped and abandoned, their end of the storyline was beyond retarded too where almost every Ynnari just dies to an illusion of a Keeper of Secrets after barely killing it. Not a real Keeper of Secrets, oh no just an illusion of one.
>>
>>98450313
>>98450356
Don’t forget that the final McGuffin sword they needed to kill Slaanesh was stolen by Shalaxi and now sits in, I think, Slaanesh’s throne room.

in aos i feel like idoneth are kinda fucked. Most of their lore is them interacting and being at a disadvantage again their other elf cousins, namely morathi and teclis elves.

Damn they got any of them left? That change is fucking ancient. Also isnt there a handwave that some random tomb worlds still act like that? If you want.
>>
>>98450387
Thinking over it; Elder probably are. I know a few people irl who seethe over Necron lore, but it's whatever. Every iteration of Necrons was a mixed bag, which is more than I can say about the Eldar.
Not that GW treats Xenos well in general, but when compared to Eldar, Orks and Tau (my two xeno faction) are in a much better position.
>>
>>98448985

I disagree, but the discussion is long trite and you most definitely don't sound like the kind of person who is open to consider the movements gw was doing outside of published material
>>
>>98450431
They're rare, but they do show up at times and can be very loud when they do.
And yeah, the handwave is that some tomb worlds basically just have broken programming and still act like that.
To be honest, it was a bit of an overdue change since beforehand, Necrons and Tyranids had a MASSIVE amount of thematic overlap. To the point that necrons could be described as "Metal Skeleton tyranids" and nids as "Organic bug necrons"
>>
>>98450460
They basically just do so right here >>98450451
by discarding the moves that they were making in another of GW's games that feature Slaanesh.
>>
>>98450440
Eldar fuckin' deserve it IMO
They spent over a decade as the pet army of one of the prominent people at GW, and even though that influence has waned, they still get more than they deserve at times.
>>
>>98450460
>outside of published material
exactly you just need to use common sense and think outside the box
back then everyone knew slaanesh was getting squatted 100% it was in the air you could feel it. my friend wanted to collect slaanesh chaos warriors and I distinctly remember he told me it came to him in a dream that they wouldn't make it to AoS and the tears in his eyes were real
>>
>>98450450
>>98450471
Im still an end time hater ill be honest. but I do agree that the necron change was for the best. I actually recall old necrons since my intro to the hobby was dawn of war back in the day. They were pretty boring.
>>
>>98450482
That's the core book of 1st edition. The first and only material back then. Where does the MIA come from that predates it? The earlier section in the same book?
>>
>>98450496
Not him but I am surprised slanessh wasnt getting squatted. It feels like for a hot min they might have been trying to push the age of their lines lower. And if any faction is gonna get mom and dad upset its slanesh. Then GW remebered the hobby is not only expensive but few kids are gonna play the tabletop even if it wasnt.
>>
>>98450313
qrd on 40k I wholly believe Slaanesh was getting squatted because Archaon lacks a head and warhammer was going PG

Dark Eldar. They're even closer to the Idoneth of 40k because they actually are

what else is known about the true plans for AoS? kragnos was a BoC refresh. Slaanesh was gone. Malerion was a chaos god. Bretonnia was to be merged with Empire instead of the CoS we got.

exactly. he was modeled in the style of the ogroids because they were all meant to be part of the same army. the same way entire armies end up modeled after some earlier released 1 off like an underworlds band

if kragnos was really meant to have nothing to do with beasts of chaos or the ogroids he wouldnt have ended up looking almost 1 to 1 exactly like them. he also has spines similar to what you see on other chaos models and chaos has since gotten additional centaurs

there was definitely something planned at some point during production that got scrapped when old world decided it was taking beasts behind the scenes and they canceled the upcoming beasts refresh that was hinted at by the refreshed beastlord, terrain, endless spells, and now god-gor popping up in all sorts of armies

Also the god aligned gors have technically existed in both AoS and Fantasy for AGES. They used to have models in fantasy, but they got squatted, and relegated to existing in the background. I think gw was planning to write slaanesh out of their games at some point, but it must've been stopped in development probably pretty close to AoS' launch. one or two features could be a coincidence but these guys are all clearly drawing from the same design document, they just tick too many boxes. armor can be changed in zbrush easily enough as it would be separate geometry on an additional subtool but facial anatomy and features like hair which are meant to blend near the skin would be harder to change later on requiring a full resculpt which is why so much of that DNA remains

The thaumaturge releases all the way back in 2016 (!)
Then we get the myrmidon in february 2020
Kragnos comes out in june 2021
Theridon come out in november 2022
Like at what part of the timeline where ogroids supposed to be morphed into beastmen or whatever the fuck is the idea here?
>>
>>98451011
What model design indicates to you that they were making new beastmen based off the ogroids? Because every other beastmen released for AoS, before or since, looks nothing like them. Even ghorraghai's art (which might have an unreleased model, though the actual box does come with a shaman which is supposed to be him) looks nothing like the ogroids.
I can see a connection between kragnos and the ogroids based on the models. I don't see a connection between the ogroids and BoC.

just a heads up, as the kragnos/ogroids combo army conspiracy guy, the ogroids were a destruction army claim is somebody else and not something i subscribe to.

>>98451088
the timeline is something probably like

2010s whfb----beastment sell like shit and the models are old, lets start playing around with ideas

silver tower--ogroid comes out as a twist on the classic minotaur concept

they like the ogroid so they play around with it some more

sometime probably late 1st or early 2nd edition---early design work behind the scenes to incorporate the ogroid ideas into chaos to breathe some life into the stagnant beasts range. several other mythical beasts added alongside the minotaur concept such as the cyclops and the sphinx

mid 2nd edition---news hits behind the scenes that beasts are getting sent to a new project called the old world and specialist studios has laid claims to all their plastics, and the army is being removed from aos, so parts of this upcoming refreshes works in progress start to get redirected, and a few kits like the beastlord and the endless spells are let out into current beasts of chaos just to get what money they can from them, despite knowing the army wont last

the god-gor are less clear and i think since those were likely a dual army unit (because back then it was okay for things to exist in more than one army) they were less concretely anchored to this project, but still would have been a part of it. it may also be the case that that darkoath demon thing the wilderfiend may have been involved, it too has some similarities in its 4 prominent horn structure and its general proportions somewhat match an ogroid or a beast model, but im much less invested in that opinion, it may well have been later and just invented whole cloth for darkoath

i dont have specific years for everything in the timeline because its been a decade since half this shit happened and im not going to track the exact day every model released for a company that doesnt make that information easily searchable anyways. so treat the above dates and timelines as vague approximations, not gospel facts
>>
>>98451239
The myrmidon came out like 2 months after the tow announcement, which itself seemed quite hasty given that it took them four more years to actually bring out the game. Way too early for it to get repurposed from a potential beastman to another ogroid. Also, if beasts were claimed by the tow team all the way in 2019 why the fuck did this cause problems for 3rd edition's EoE narrative all the way in late 2024? I think that actually puts the decision to move beasts at like 2022 at the very earliest, any earlier and they could simply rewrite the dawnbringers bullshit involving all the attention on beasts of chaos. Which obviously is years AFTER kragnos, so why was he repurposed from BoC in the first place?
Idk the longer you look into the theory the more it starts to look like a house of cards. The dates just don't make sense for it to be true.
>>
>>98451340
you seem to be confusing the old world announcement publicly with when the team would have found out about it behind closed doors, which would have been years earlier
>>
>>98451385
I think the the announcement was rushed out of the gate somewhat, possibly because of kings if war, and it can't have been in internal discussion for very long. Certainly not long enough to decide shit like who will get exclusive dibs on what faction.
Also, again, pushing back the date on this only further begs the question on why 3rd edition's beastmen narrative was such a mess all these years later.

Gargants are that army.
They aren't fun to play, it's a pure DOS check army.
If they can mathematically kill a mega a turn, they win, no questions asked.
If they can't, you win. You can math it out when you look at each other's list.
Plus the models look samey, and unfortunately it's samey if a shit design (no one likes olde English giants).
So if your goal is to make people not want to play you, play Gargants. Good luck reselling them

God, Underworlds is dying (GWS cancelled all the latest tournaments) and Warcry is being kept on life support.
>>
>>98452149
I'm not surprised. Underworlds gameplay was already badly balanced from from the very beginning, but it had nice drawn art (gone now, replaced with generic garbage) and cheaply priced boxes (both starters and band boxes) making it very accessible to both existing AoS players and those from outside of GW ecosystem. But over the years they've inflated the price at insane rates where only people willing to buy are a small dedicated playerbase, not to mention insanely short fomo rotations as well.
But hey, glad enough outcry brought Warcry from being dead to being placed on life-support.
>>
So the warhammer hero box sets wont get an exclusive announcement, they'll just be released whenever. I guess I'll have to pay attention to target because I think thats just about the only other place they would sell them in the us.

Not really, they're in a very comfortable situation with both up to date plastics kits, older kits that have aged wonderfully, and enough variety in units to feel like a complete roster.

The only things that are truly lacking are saurus guards, as the old kit sticks out like a sore thumb, special characters that aren't the xboxhueg kroak, and spells

Replacing skinks and the stegadon, or some other completely new units are very low in priority, hell, even saurus guards arguably could get skipped and just squatted instead of updated, since warriors themselves got finer-looking gear and shields and could easily steal the bodyguard rules for game purposes.
>>
>>98453641
>range expansion
But they have one of the most complete and solid ranges in AoS? All they really need is a couple refreshes like Temple Guard, Skinks and arguably some of the older dinos like Bastiladon and Stegadon.

>>
>>98453773
They all still look perfectly fine except the Saurus Guard and Old Blood.
>>
>>98453795
ok? Fine is still worse than nearly every other faction except BoK or NH maybe. I just looked at every faction's models and Seraphon's stick out like a sore thumb compared to the rest, especially now that Ogres are refreshed.

Also "desperate need of a refresh" only applies to really the skinks and saurus guard. And even then the skinks hold up well for their age.
Not every aging model is in "desparate need of a refresh" just because gw could make a newer (more expensive) version now. Stega and basti are older, yes, but function perfectly well.
Also ripperdactyls are just ugly it's not really a matter of age. The terradon alt buld holds up totally fine.

>>
>>98454267

>>
>>98454329
The thing with kragnos = BoC is that it rests on two oddities, that, on their own, are pretty interesting:
1) kragnos looks like an ogroid
2) some weird shit was going down with beastmen in 3rd edition
The problem is that for kragnos = boc to work you need to connect both these oddities, but as we've seen earlier in the thread the timeline makes this impossible
So all we're left with is some schizo going "but he looks like an ogroid!" every once in a while
>>
>>98454352
It's layered on theories that ogroids were replacing beastmen and beastmen were getting souped with StD
That honest wargamer fag actually "leaked" the merger too, though ofc he's full of shit
So Kragnos looking like an ogroid suggests ogroids were getting fleshed out with that line of thought and I guess split after the merger?
iirc it's entirely based on people being cunts about BoC (well, I don't like them so I'd be glad if they got squatted) and Warcry - both the ogroid, other beasts, and the one off Gor in a warband

>A Warhammer Age of Sigmar Novel

>Now a powerful Chaos Lord, Heldanarr Fall fights to protect his throne from rivals in the face of rumours of the forces of Order closing in. In the midst of this turmoil, he finds new purpose in two orphaned children.

>READ IT BECAUSE
>It's another fascinating look into the motivations of a once-noble warrior who has fallen to Chaos, with insight into what that means on a human level.

>THE STORY
>Heldanarr Fall has nothing to live for. He has conquered the Burning Valley and bent its people to his will. Yet even as a Chaos Lord, he must kneel to a god of bloodshed who demands endless war. Then, in the ruins of a siege, he finds two children. Helpless. Innocent. Worth protecting. For the first time since his rise to power, Heldanarr sees a future worth fighting for the chance to make a better world.

>But enemies are closing in. Rivals circle his throne like crows, and omens whisper of Hammerhal's legions on the march. To defend what is his, he must call upon the power of Khorne. But the Lord of Skulls is not generous, and the price of his gifts may be precisely what Heldanarr Fall is determined to save.

Genuine wonder that this guy hasn't been a black library model release yet. Fairly beloved character with a pre-existing unique design for one of the most popular factions in the game. As far as black library models go, it's a slam dunk and far better than what they're usually working with.

Do they really need much more or are they just feeling cramped in the warclans book?

Because if you give them their underworlds and limited characters and add hounds and fimir they end up a perfectly rounded roster.

Well that’s nice. Been looking for an excuse to re-read god eaters son.

I would say that they have enough heroes (like every toher faction) but they lack non-hero option. They have a whole AoR (and lore) about monsters and yet they don't have normal monsters or even beasts. They live in a difficult terrain, where their small legs should stop them from moving and yet they have to mounts or transport for their troops.
They have clear gaps

I can live with KB leader being a generic shaman in a coat of paint or the guy who should have been the leader being so dogshit that he costs less than a generic.
I accept that much superior 3e BoC rules lies unused while we have an Ok ruleset, an upgrade from what we had
But Kruleboyz deserve units that much their character, theme and lore

I think that they really just need a cavalry/beast pack unit of some kind like those dogs

perfectly rounded is a bit much, they've got idoneth syndrome where half their range is monster centrepieces but with very little "normal units" to go along them. They've only really got gutrippaz, hobgrots (fugly) and the killbows.
I think the warcry warband is a band-aid, and one that imo doesn't really work aesthetically.
Some cavalry and yeah a big three man "monstrous infantry" unit would be nice.

if this was Warhammer fantasy I'd have said that a range can't feel complete until it has both light cavalry/hounds and heavy cavalry, as well as an elite infantry to add to the normal infantry

but this isn't warhammer fantasy
