Unironically, games for this feeling?
>>
Games for feeling like Hollywood keeps trampling on your childhood because they're not only running out of ideas, but they also have retarded agendas about things that don't exist or don't matter; agendas that are often hypocritical and show lack of self-awareness and accountability?

...I'd say anything by Evil Hat has you covered there, or any of the Börgs.
>>
>>98456859

I kinda liked this movie. It was (almost) as silly as the cartoon, with a no less in your face "universal" moral message agenda.

And it made Brian May copy ABBA.

There's a "saturday morning cartoon sci fantasy barbarian" a la Thundarr inspired RPG that I see get posted sometimes. On my way trying to find it, I instead found out that there was an actual official He-Man RPG lol

The fact that the mainstream entertainment industry has stopped producing art or even decent entertainment and it has degenerated into constantly recycling old ideas doesn't really have anything to do with the culture war.

It's nearly a good movie. It's only major fuckups are dogshit attempts at humor that aren't funny at all and are deliberately timed to ruin the mood of scenes, and the attempt to do a "your true power is being yourself" theme, but having Adam be himself actually never works even once and what actually resolves problems is he-man fighting.
>>
>>98458677

FATE has Masters of Umdaar.
OSRlikes have a bunch of sword and planet things depending on if you want mechanically heavy like The Barbarian Conquerors of Kanahu or wacky fun like DCC's Crawling Under A Broken Moon or whatever ulltralights got made for it. Solar Blades & Cosmic Spells, etc. There's a bunch.
Barbarians of Lemuria had some scifi addons, never played it but people seem to like it.
Savage Worlds will have the same.
There's a literal Masters of the Universe boardgame from Archon.
>>
>>98456752
So, now that it's been explicitly demonstrated, in this very thread in fact, that individuals get different feelings from the image you posted; what do you mean by "this feeling"? What feeling are you referring to?
>>
>>98456752
I liked this movie but it was really annoying how it refused to take itself seriously. I get it, He-Man is dumb. I don’t need the movie winking at me and bumping me all the time with its ironic millennial humor to let me know you’re “in” on the joke.
>>
>>98458780
But that's the point. He is He Man. So when he's being He Man, he is being himself.
>>
>>98459750
It doesn't really. It's way less bad than the cartoon is.
>>
>>98456752
Just like every IP from Stargate to Neopets and World of Warcraft, D&D 5(.5)e
>>
>>98458780

As a matter of fact I think the humour was what saved this flick.

And honestly? The cartoon was pretty explicitly dumb and tongue in cheek as well.

>>98460109

Too rules heavy and too serious, at least the ones I know. Will look for Solar Blades.
>>
>>98458780
The crux of the movie is that you need to be the best version of yourself.

Duncan and his father are both half right a man needs to be strong, and He-Man's strength is what saves Grayskull, but he only gets that far because of his ability to connect with others, lift them up, and make them work together.
Which is the only reason he's able to get to Skeletor during the climax.

I thought this was fairly obvious, but it seems that culture war or telephoning the plot synopsis without actually watching the movie made this hard for some people to get.

It's neither the Hyperborean fantasy that the worst right-wingers want it to be, or the woke deconstruction of masculinity that the worst left-wingers want it to be.
It's simply a fun action movie that actually seemed to respect the source material, albeit with a little bit of millennial writing slop.

>>98456752
It's still D&D 5E. It's pure critical roll slop.
>>
>>98457992
>degenerated into constantly recycling old ideas doesn't really have anything to do with the culture war.
It actually does. People are only more susceptible to propaganda if its something they are familiar with. And these people can only corrupt to push their garbage and you excuse and ignore the core issues then wonder why things are worse.
>>
>>98461255

My impression of the theme, if any, is that some people do have the power but using that just to think yourself overpowered and manly is a recipe for disaster. Adam, Man at Arms, even Adam's dad, they all end up like that, even if their "overpowerdeness" is different.

That being said, it's a green tiger flick with meme music, no Nabokov. Kinda curious what will they with She-ra, which had a coherent rewrite already (but ironically enough not particulary gender-coded, Adora could've been a boy altogther).

My dream honestly is that they'd have the balls to remake the REAL Filmation kino https://youtu.be/fusyrsRroDo

>>
>>98461360

Camp is EXACTLY about being silly. Susan Sontag even pointed out deliberated camp is a thing, meaning you KNOW and want it to be silly vs elaborate form.

What you're thinking off is another thing and actually not even an art phenomenon, the tendency for people these days to have serious debate about meaning in mostly pure "mindless" entertainment. "irony" is when people realize it's a fucking capeshit, but still take it for something of meaningful value.
>>

Dungeon Crawl Classics/Crawling Under a Broken Moon is very light hearted and campy for the most part, although more towards Thundar than Heman when I think about it. Its violent as fuck though so might not work with the Saturday morning kid's cartoon vibe.

> Cast
The most obnoxious character was literally a black bald woman. I thought Chuds would be creaming themselves over that
> Girl boss robot
The one that still died, and that still needed MAN at Arms to figure out the plan to beat the horde?
> Friend Zoned
Who cares? The chick in the beginning was hotter anyway, and not every movie needs le mandatory love interest soppy subplot.
> Pink shirts
Did you ever watch the show or look at his figure? He ALWAYS had a pink shirt
> Confused message
His empathy and caring is how he rallied the Masters when they got captured. The first fight in Snake Mountain showed that just He Man brute strength isn't enough.
> Shitting on HR
The message was about the importance of empathy, the shitting on HR, if anything, shows how HR is rightly shit on for NOT really having empathy
>>
>>98461534

>The message was about the importance of empathy, the shitting on HR, if anything, shows how HR is rightly shit on for NOT really having empathy

To be fair, she was right, Adam used his work time to fucking browse swords, even when dealing with clients.

>>
>>98469868
I agree. It was a really good He-Man movie. I even like how they kept Skeletor as just a straight, irredeemable, shitheel that was evil because he thought being evil was fun. No dark past, no sympathizing with him, no greater scope bullshit. Just a complete dickhead with power loving every minute of being a complete dickhead. The only negative complaint I have is that they should have cast someone hotter for Evilynne but even her character was pretty on brand in terms of mannerisms and such.

A black female girl boss HR higher up coming down hard on a good employee that got good results for having a non-conventional interest that didn't cause problems and just so happened to be a straight white male was probably the most realistic thing I have seen in cinema in decades. And it took place in fucking He-Man.

A woman with a bloated sense of power from a position of authority. When a man in the same position acts the same way, he is called an Asshole, a Bully, or a Power Monger. When a woman does it she is supposed to come off as "powerful" or "a leader" or some other positive descriptor, but she's the same Asshole and modern writers can't realize it. The head of HR was the same kind of character as my pic, but since she is a woman, the audience is not supposed to view them the same.
>>
>>98479355

I just love how basement dwellers now think firing a guy after a shitton of warnings because he, uh, doesn't work during his shift is some sort of "bloated sense of power".

Modern entertainment hasn't devolved because of any of that shit, its devolved because aside from fringe indie stuff everything is now owned and made by the same handful of companies that have bought up every studio across every medium they can get ahold of, making everything now subject to the same bottom-line analysis and reward structure for entertainment as it is for producing sneakers or funko pops, and has to be approved by literally the exact same executives responsible for both.

Everything feels the same because from the top of the ivory tower, it IS all the same. The movie based on your favorite IP is a set of numbers on a spreadsheet somewhere below a crowdsourced service app and above a set of earbuds that are 2.9% cheaper to make than the competitor.

The only thing that matters to these people is whether the investment makes a return, and that means reaching the maximum possible market share. Whatever they think will do that is good, anything that doesn't further that end is irrelevant.
>>
>>98479900
If you've ever worked in an office, you'd know that people googling shit unrelated to work is completely fucking normal. It might not be encouraged, but it is expected and trying to crack down on it actually lowers productivity.

It only becomes a problem if the employee in question isn't meeting their quotas/getting their tasks done. As long as you are doing the shit you need to do, you have a limited amount of 'fucking around on company time' time in a office job. It seems counterintuitive, but office jobs are typically mental rather than physical, and people perform mental tasks better if they have little breaks throughout the day to clear their minds of distractions and then return to work.

I knew a guy who would just play Magic The Gathering through a client on his work computer and everyone knew it. He ran deployments and maintenance updates for the various internal environments our shit ran on, and as a result would often be waiting for a process to finish so he would play games while he waited.
>>
>>98480149

It sure is, but Adam couldn't stop even when talking to his boss or his coworkers when working. Hell, he's shown not taking his phone off his eyes in the first case.
And he worked for HR of all things! Not exactly "lighthouse guardian" territory.
>>
>>98457992
I mean , that is a big reason people joined and created the culture war.
they were pretty retarded about it.
>>
>>98457992
You'd think so, right? But in fact, culture war nonsense being used to justify the recycling of old ideas and doing them worse is what got people to nootice in the first place. The bread and circuses were disrupted.
>>
>>98461255
I just watched it today in my own home, and there were a lot of parts that were fun and did seem to respect the source material. There's stuff that I figured might stick in my craw but didn't really. Teela is done pretty well.

But it felt like a lot of the times the movie's trying to have a sincere moment they just couldn't let it be a sincere moment - there had to be a joke to just completely knee cap it and take you out.

I'm with another anon who said Adam being himself didn't really pay off. Him being good at empathy's a more informed trait than something we really see. The part where he rallies everyone in jail is a fairly generic moment we could see in any other film, and Duncan stepping up and not being a drunk filled with despair because Trapjaw beat his ass and Eternia fell on his watch isn't really something Adam lifts him up to.

>>98461300
I don't think Roboto was really a girl boss. Teela was much more of one.

Actually, I think Robot's probably the only instance where we see Adam's vaunted empathy at work - nobody else trusts her or sees her as a worthy ally except Adam, and it's at Adam's prompting that Duncan unlocks her combat abilities again. She's one character he does lift up. It's actually pretty perfunctory, which is sad because that kind of thing's supposed to be why Adam's worthy of the power.
>>
>>98482694

Agree, could've done something better. Like makng him the reason Man at Arms gets his shit together, at least.
>>
>>98482694
I don't entirely disagree with your points, but taken overall I quite enjoyed the movie for what it was.

I think it balanced humor and sincerity alright, although I do agree it could've leaned a bit harder on sincerity at times.

As for Adam's empathy, I think it could've been done a bit better, but I'd hesitate to say it was informed, He does help Duncan, rallies the troops, repeatedly tries to reason with Skeletor and his army, and as you mentioned with Roboto as well, etc.
It doesn't work with Skeletor or the bad guys because, y'know, it's He-Man, but the effort is shown relatively consistently throughout the film.

Really I was just happy to see something that was campy without being excessively ironic, legitimately good natured, and embracing a positive form of masculinity without trying to deconstruct it or overly simplify it.

Hyper competent women characters can work
The special sauce is to make them actually nice and friendly on top of being an expert in their field or surprisingly capable in a fight.

I get that Adam's empathy wouldn't work on Skeletor or the main villains. I'd kind of be disappointed if it did, because I'm not sure they could really show satisfactory, redemptive justice.

I don't entirely disagree with you either, and I think overall the main thing that disappoints me is that it comes so close to being good but it's just, at least for me, only okay.

>>98486311
This is, I think, also true for man characters. Nobody likes the guy who's really good at his job but a complete and total asshole.
>>
>>98486290
>>98486898
I think that with the earlier scene where Skeletor has his whole "None of this means anything if I don't have The Power, it can all be taken away from me" speech, there was room for a good empathy speech from Adam later. It would basically boil to picking apart Skeletor's entire motivation and making him seem pathetic (You want control because you're afraid, you hurt others the same way that you expect to be hurt, and the more you take for yourself the more you have to be afraid of losing. Its a vicious cycle, Skeletor, and even with The Power you wouldn't be happy you'd just find something else to be paranoid about) and then you could have Adam extend a peace offer to break the cycle the cycle where Skeletor genuinely seems to be considering it for a moment before he just blasts Adam and goes "I've never had anyone try to forgive me like that before. there might even be some truth to it. But you missed the part where I like hurting people."
>>
>>98487397
There you go, anon. That would've easily elevated the movie a great deal.

>>98479900
>Shitton of warnings
He got one
>Doesn't work during his shift
Except he does and it was even outright stated he was good at his job and good reviews from those helped.

She had to jump on his ass about what he did during downtime as an excuse to threaten termination. That's horseshit but shockingly common for women in power to do. Men in power often think "Bob there gets his job done reliably and the people he deals with in regards to his job like him, AND he has good reviews across the board? That's a good employee. Let him keep doing what he is doing."

Women in power will be presented with the same person and try to change shit BECAUSE and when changing does not go as planned "It must be Bob's fault!"
>>
>>98487509

Nah, she said he was warned before. She also says the problem of him being distracted and so not doing his job right was something he did a lot.

I get that basement dwellers are kinda rustled by the idea of not having to waste working hours on doing their shit online and being told anything by a women, but this is how it goes. If anything, she was pretty nice to him and obviously a male boss would've been the same.
>>
>>98487509
