If Commander is so popular why haven't they made Duel Commander or Pauper Commander official formats yet?

What are some commanders/deck you've been working on building recently anons? Here's two of mine.
>>98462873I mean, it's certainly good in specific decks. I'm looking forward to running it, but it won't be a cross-archetype staple. Too low-impact, generall. Will see play in mutiple 60 card decks. Smaug is a big dumb dragon that timmies love and and kill surprisingly fast. Will be a generically good dragon card, maybe even red casual staple.>>98462872That's what we're talking about buddy
>>98462820I feel like nobody really knows what they want out of a pauper commander. It's supposed to only use common/uncommon legendary commanders but all the inhouse rules are different. You see tournament results with non-legendary commanders or rare/mythic budget commanders.
>>98462888I built a Zada deck for the first time recently after the Goblin Storm artist guy recently said we should go out and proxy his cards which I thought was based as hell for someone in his position to state publicly. I needed something ultra budget to make a point to one of my asshole friends that just decided to proxy an $800 Voja deck recently. Next I'm working on pic related because I heard it's pretty much the green version of Zada in terms of allowing you to slap your bulk into a pile and have it just werk. Just waiting on the ~5 hydras I don't own to come in the mail.
>>98462863I already said what the best was, Land Tax. Tithe (not smothering) is great too. Archaeomancer's Map also really good. Those are 3 best white land tutor effects I can think of.
>>98462888I like commanders with haste. or almost only play them generally. I'm working on Knuckles and Garth right now. Waiting on a few cards to arrive on my just finished Indo Rex deck.
>>98462891maybe I'm overrating recruit but it seems like it could be a staple to me

>>98462910Did you have a stroke or are you just retarded?
>>98462909It might just be, who knows. The clincher for me is just making a 1/1 token. Couldn't quite see it being a staple like Lotho for instance. I could be wrong though. I'm looking forward to running it in Bart/Lurrus though, it'll be bonkers there.
>>98462910which card in white is better at fetching lands than the one that grabs 2 shocks or surveils?

>>98463403Most are tremendously underpowered and just weaker versions of something that already exists. Others have some unique gimmicks but are still very weak. A couple are strong. I guess wotc doesn't want to offend the new audience by forcing them to play icky non-ub cards
>>98463403who's this chad?
Decided to take a look at the SL Commander deck for Miku, because they're often (not always) pretty decent and well-tuned, sometimes capable of holding their own as high as bracket 4, but this one just doesn't have the sauce. Previous secret lair decks have had the charm of feeling like you're playing one of your buddy's decks, each card choice was thoughtful and deliberate, and you could tell real thought and care had gone into them—even the bad ones. This time around, it just feels like we're being given (sold) an unusually strong selesnya precon; that passion and personal touch just aren't there anymore. It's still good bang for my buck, and I'll probably buy it, but it's decidedly a step down from its predecessors and leaves a man yearning for something more.

Seems like there isn't... that's too bad, dedicating at least an handful of episodes to mtg lore would do wonder for onboarding new fans, but I guess they are too egocentric and entitled for that...I hope fallout or warhammer have something at least
>>98463704also>extra combat color, as a treat

Any creature should be eligible as commander, legendary or not
>>98463729And also commanders should go to the graveyard instead of returning to the command zone.
>>98463670I'm building Eshki right now since she seems like Stompy Timmy's dream commander
>>98463403Most of them are pretty disappointing. I like "retrains" on principle, but these ones are mostly just them slapping an old name on something that has very little to do with the original card or character, and usually very underpowered too.I'm particularly miffed about my OG Uncle Istvan being completely ruined by the "must attack every turn with this 1 power thing that people will just let through" clause. Or Autumn Willow retrain not being even slightly visually similar to the original card. Or Arzakon being one of the shittiest planeswalkers in history. Or...
>>98463735This, and we should go down to 20 life and 60 cards I think.
>>98463497It's specifically designed as upgrade bait. It can be stupid strong with a few minor changes, namely the mana base, adding 3 GC, and refining the game plan (e.g. cut most of the little tokens and focus on big dick tokens to copy with populate).

>>98462857It's the best 4 mana dragon in the game for commander and might even see play outside of commander.
>>98464024It is 1000% seeing play in more formats than just commander.
>>98463873I would probably rework my WUR Sokka spellslinger/token deck, since that one already goes wide and wants to shit out a bunch of low-cost cantrips. My problem with Sokka is that he's too commander-dependent and only goes online through burst turns that don't have enough umph to kill a table. I like the playstyle, but Massimo seems like he might be better for sustaining long-term value than that, since my alternative is just to go all-in on storm, which I don't find that interesting, or turn it into WUR aristocrats, which seems like a gimmick (especially since Massimo can run Jolted Awake anyway).
>>98464033Do you think it's good enough to see play in standard? I kind of checked out from that as of late. The payoff is there for sure but is it better than what current Izzet piles do?
>>98464044Standard is such a fucked up format because it can be filled with some of the most broken cards ever but those cards just won't have the proper support to build a deck around with the limited card pool.

https://moxfield.com/decks/7tGfAUOf5H2Ee94_OwxKjgCan someone help me not be a shitter and git gud at building the Miku deck up? Currently my idea for it was to build up life to be chunky and zap people with aetherflux as necessary, and abuse the shit out of populate with big chunky tokens. I'm trying to find more ways to produce tokens of stuff so populate can work. I kept a few chump blocker producers in, just in case I need to survive a sac or to block if needed.Ideally I'm trying to keep it in B3 (minus Miku Vorinclex, I'll deal with that later). >>98464604You're casually asking someone to go through your entire 100 card deck and critically review it you fucking asshole, no one in their right mind would do that for someone openly acting like a retard.
>>98464655It has a very narrow view of what it considers good, and best I can tell it has a slant to cedh. It told me my tribal sliver deck lacks a win con when Legion and Queen and wombo combo a win easily, with multiple pieces to achieve said combos.
>>98464511>No TalismanYour ramp is heavily creature-focused, but you lack haste enablers. A boardwipe already fucks your gameplan, and you can take the ping damage in lifegain.>Bracket 4 lifegain with no comboBracket 4 allows degenerate shit, and that list won't deal with something like reanimator or storm since all it's doing is battlecruising. Your payoffs are weak too; you have no way to tutor for Aetherflux, and even then at best you're taking out one player at a time under threat of mutual destruction while painting a target on yourself. At worst, you're Korsan Gripped and dead in the water. Your other payoffs are... what... Soul of Eternity? That's going to be out-stalled since you don't have any evasion; consider Garruk's Uprising.Cut enough of the gamechangers to go down to Bracket 3. You'll get more games in and won't get raped as much.>Keeping Invincible Hymn and Healing Technique inInvincible Hymn doesn't do anything. "But it sets my life total to big number!" No. You're spending EIGHT mana (no reducers for it, mind you) to do what your deck should have already done at that point. It's a weird reversal card that only really does a lot if you're very far behind, but at that point you have better options, like cards that would actually stop the board from raping your face. The best use of it is casting it a rotation after Aetherflux has been allowed to sit a rotation, then holding priority and shooting someone with flux before it resets your life total, but good luck actually getting that combo off when none of your pieces there can be tutored. Healing Technique is just overcosted. Just run a reanimation spell at that point or a Regrowth.>Bloom Tender in a two-color deckBloom Tender fucks if you're in three or more colors. In two colors, you only get two mana. That's not worth it since if you're at a point where you can run this and Doubling Season, Badgermole Cub is on the table and actually makes use of the other dorks you have.
>>98464640I wanted to elaborate>>98464655Commandersalt also lacks a lot of combo knowledge and its synergy is a bit fucked. It's a nice starting point, not a substitute for game knowledge. Kinda like a rando just flicking through your deck.

>>98464718>but that's for everyoneThe thing about symmetrical effects is that while they benefit everyone, you're the only one expecting it at all. This one's a meta call; if you're expecting a lot of toolkit decks with some activated ability-centric shit like Arcanis or Aphetto Alchemists, I'd be cautious. If your deck is staying mostly to battlecruiser pods and can out-body the table, I'd look into it.I don't know how to feel about Drawbridge. I tried running it in an elfball deck so that I could immediately lead into a Craterhoof win without risking exposing my field for a rotation, but I'd be lying if I said waiting on it for one turn didn't hurt on occasion.Sidenote, but if you do end up going with Crossroads, you can toss in a Temur Sabertooth and that lets you combo off with Bloom Tender if you want to keep that in for infinite ETB triggers for whatever. Not saying to do that, just noting it's an option.

Meanwhile a race swap goes against the lore behind the House of Hador. This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone with half a brain, because Lord of the Rings is white culture. It's European-inspired new age mythology based on existing European myths from someone raised and lived throughout Europe, and if I can be frank a bunch of American West Coast millennials trying to change that because of their own dogmatic godless religion is just as bad as whitewashing black culture, probably worse because there's no prominent watchdog groups calling out blatant cultural appropriation.

Are slivers any good still? I took apart my sliver deck ages ago but I still have all the five color sliver legends from back then. Do people run First Sliver as the go to sliver commander now?
>>98465573I wouldn't say they worth running, because they still have the stigma of slivers. They relent on pressuring you, opps you played your whole deck and are threatening lethal on everyone. No one has a good time playing slivers, either as or against.Same thing as eldrazi
>>98465573>>98465641This. It can be very strong and will pubstomp, but it will make you public enemy number one and you'll be targeted from the beginning and might not have fun. If you and everyone else are playing similar decks like Eldrazi then you will have fun, but that hardly happens unless you all plan to bring out your dick decks.
>>98462888
>>98465573I haven't done it yet, but I really like the idea of a sliver deck where the slivers are there to facilitate some other gameplan besides critical mass attacking with slivers. Like some sort of engine with Scuttling Sliver/Screeching Sliver/Psionic Sliver. Or some sort of lifegain combo with Darkheart Sliver and a few other ones. The deck wouldn't be dedicated to slivers, but they would slot in as a package for the main archetype.
>>98465712thought I recognized that ability
>>98465573everybody hates them and the decks play pretty linearly. Most slivers aren't super useful either so you wind up with a deck that's a lot of chaff with a few bangers.
>>98465641It feels like monogreen also adds this exact same dynamic to the game but for some reason no one bitches about it like they do about slivers and eldrazi.
>>98465641That's a lie and you know it. I play both of them, and both are an absolute blast to play.>>98465573First Sliver is fun, but be prepared to be universally hated. I've had grown men start crossing their arms and pouting if I play them.
How do I Gix my friends in the most efficient manner?
>>98465879This. Slivers have about 15-20 pretty good creatures and then you're stuck picking draft chaff that has the word Sliver printed on it to round out the deck from there. I rarely pull my Sliver deck out because people just hate them and falling behind on Slivers once you've gotten significantly shunted by removal is really rough. Even when you're winning people start getting annoyed when you're popping off on Slivers compared to other tribes. My elf deck pops off way harder but people don't seem to care as much.
>>98465573Pretty much what everyone said about the stigma being their biggest problem. Boardwipes that can get around indestructible have only gotten more plentiful and easy to cast over the years, and Sliver players have a nasty habit of overextending, so the deck itself isn't more particularly than your given dragonslop pile.
>>98465908it all boils down to craterhoof hate
>>98465948wouldnt you just play the half decent ones (with changelings) and rest of the deck is support like Heroics etc so you're not blown out completely?
>>98466000Not him, but you can play just the good ones. Ideally you want all the evasion dudes (flying, unblockable, etc), the combat buddies (haste, double strike, menace, vigilance, etc), the utility slivers (harmonic, basal, crypt, etc), and the 5c Slivers. If you do this, you'll have about 50 slivers. What you then want is a bunch of suspend cards, because every time you cascade, you can search for 0cmc and grab one for insanely powerful effects. You also ALWAYS want Averna in your slivers decks, because it means every cascade chain will also shit out like 5 lands. Basically if you hit turn 4/5, you win the game.
>>98466000>>98466023Here's a good baseline as an example. I run this in B3 and harvest salt nonstop when I play it.
I want to make a Phyrexian tribal deck with the new commander that gives all of your equipment living weapon (I've already made a handful of decks that mainly consist of Job Select/Living Weapon/For Mirrodon! equipment before). Is there a way to sort equipment on scryfall by equip cost? Given skirting the equip cost is probably the biggest benefit of Living Weapon. As a side, would it also be worth playing token doublers? If I have something like a +1/+1 banner for my Phyrexians, when my extra germs enter would they immediately die since they're 0/0s or would the banner allow them to live? I would assume the latter but you never know.
>>98466050Adding one more thing, I guess I should ask if you can double up on Living Weapon.

>>98466097Ekthi already buffs your little germs because they are phyrexians so they will live I'm pretty sure. Token doublers don't seem like they would be worth their cost in Ekthi though. >>98466131I see you're just coping now. Faggot.
>>98466114I've got Lightning and Yshtola, but I've never seen people play Spiderman, Dr Who, and so on.

>>98466134I don't believe you
>>98465448Politics in Magic suck because of exactly this. For the vast majority of cards there's no actual mechanic to reinforce decisions.
>>98466239Literally who?
>>98466114Almost everyone has at least one UB commander deck. The majority of irl people who actually play the game don't care about the uw/ub drama that internet nogames fixate on.
>>98466250>there's no actual mechanicit's trivial to put punishments on your opponents like skipping their turns or blowing up their lands or locking down their boardbut it's 'unfun', so you just get damage as a result
>>98466260this is proven by how dead the containment thread is
>>98466114Everyone? UB commanders are common because the vast majority of new commanders are UB. So if you are a deck builder then many of your new decks will be that.
>>98466253You could just google it. Or go to ATFbooru. But the tl;dr is that he's a fanartist rather infamous for pulling a Greg Land for tracing porn for his pics. Which becomes a problem when he makes quite a bit of loli porn. Sometimes his "lolis" are clearly traced from petite adults in porn. Sometimes they're clearly children and, well, what do you think he traced for that?
>>98466260I play every week and I still haven't caved on UB. They must offer me something more tempting to get me to include even a single UB card in my decks.
>>98466292The one ring, one of the best draw engines ever made wasn't tempting enough for you? I think you lie sir.
>>98466260I'm waiting for Warcraft UB.I want to play Arthas, Thrall, Illidan, etc. What would the colors of all the major lore characters be?
>>98466307I am a dedicated bracket 2 gamer. I'm out here running Mind's Eye and losing games.

Gay saruman any fun nowadays or does it durdle too much compared to other controlly-slingers?
>>98466261Design an "unfun" politics card that's good then.
>>98466485At the beginning of my upkeep and at the start of my end step I get to draw a card. Any player may counter this effect by punching the player (that is not me) next to them in the face.

If I put 5 mana into this thing does that count as 5 times that it was regenerated or does it only count if it were to have died but I used the effect and therefore that is what counts as being regenerated? I started with war of the spark so Im not really that familiar with regenerate
>>98466644Regenerate is a delayed replacement that only lasts until end of turn. Consequently it does not stack.
>>98466485>3UR>Intellectual Property Dispute>Enchantment>Ward: Discard your hand>Whenever you cast a spell, Each opponent votes private, or public. The opponents who voted for private then create X treasure tokensI tried. I'm not a clever man.
>>98464228Isn't WB pretty anal about actor portrayal licensing? They might have made Aragorn black just to make 100% sure they couldn't get sued and have their art compare to a rendition of ViggoThat's my "totally not but I can pretend" reasoning, in reality they just decided to make sure I'd have issues with a dream set of mine

>>98466684I didn't realize tempt with mayhem was a thing. I don't play politics at all, I thought I was being neat.
>>98466690You worded it in a way that it technically loops infinitely as long as players keep choosing Private but I assume the intent was not "Whenever you cast a spell, you instead cast Opt 5 times and your opponents make 6000 Treasure tokens" so I evaluated it assuming there's a clause it only applies to spells cast from your hand. Either way all votes being "Private" is correct in a manner similar to all the Tempt With X spells.
>>98466114I share the "definitive FF fag" title with a good friend in my main LGS. Im also the old-border fag as well.
>>98466717I did, but yeah. This is why I don't work for magic or play politics.
>>98466050I haven't figured out a way to search for that either. I would not do doublers on this, maybe panharmonicon effects, there's also modified creature support. But yes, anthems, including the commander, make thegems 1/1 so they survive. Triggered effects like cathar's crusade let an SBA check happen first. Yes, you can double up on living weapon instances. Living weapon means "When this Equipment enters, create a 0/0 black Phyrexian Germ creature token, then attach this to it." Reach instance would trigger and you decide which order they go on the stack. Same with for mirrodin, job select, and the other effects in the same template with no keyword. Also equipment that equips on etb, you'll choose either that or the living weapon trigger to resolve last.

Winota's not strong because fog exists right?
After advising someone on Glacier Godmaw in an earlier thread I actually cut Anger for it in this deck. I had some gripes today that the deck wasn't "bracket 3 enough" because I took a player out on turn 5 and then 6, but they didn't seem to process I was essentially just goldfishing my deck against them. With a Lumra combo deck and Ureni dragon pilei that left one deck to play any meaningful interaction which he didn't.
