Best system for cops, robbers, and private eyes in the colourful 1980s?
>>98474755I'd use Mini Six.
Feng Shui or the Smallville RPG.
Have you considered a D&D homebrew?
If there isn't one already, you think anyone would be down to play something like this?It would be fun to have a more grounded RPG but still allow crazy things to happen, it can get as fantastical as the group would let it. Otherwise doing action movie shit would be cool as fuck. Like the A-Team RPG. Would it be like a pseudo faction war between the three or are you thinking more like those are the main groups and the classes can be built within them?
>>98474787Have you considered playing gurps, or anything that's not diarrhea and dog shit?
Probably GURPS Cops
>>98474787Holy shit fuck no
>>98474983>The Joke>Your Head
>>98474755Outgunned jumps to mind
>>98474755https://manywords.press/other-stuff/rpj/police-cops/Police%20Cops%20v1.1.0-beta2.pdfhttps://www.scribd.com/document/742021954/Police-Copshttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gumshoe_Systemhttps://itch.io/c/3350947/investigation-detective-ttrpghttps://legacy.drivethrurpg.com/browse.php?filters=0_1000169_310_0_0&src=fid1000169https://index.rpg.net/display-entry.phtml?mainid=1960
>>98474954I wouldn't recommend anything 3e
>>98475035Realistically, you shouldn't recommend anything GURPS at all if there is a functional genre dedicated system.
>>98475014>https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gumshoe_SystemGumshoe is a good idea depending on how much you want bullets flying, and how much DETAIL you want about that.
>>98474954>"gurps exclusively uses six sided dice-"No
>>98475402You know, they did a pretty good job tuning Gumshoe to pulp fantasy with Swords of the Serpentine, I bet you could take some of the pulp rules from that and mix them with the thriller rules from Nights Black Agents to make a pretty decent 80s procedural rpg.
Interlock Unlimited.
Look up Savage Worlds Street Wolves
I'm curious how you'd roleplay (especially from a mechanical perspective) the Crockett/Burnett split at the beginning of season 4.I know some people found it goofy but I really fucking loved it.
Riding on this thread, what system should I use if I want to do an 80s tv super hero group that might include, vaguely, Knight Rider, Manima, Man From Atlantisl, Wizard, 6 Million Dollar Man, Bionic Woman and similar modest power tiers (Brimstone, Buffy and Angel being acceptable slot-ins for players)?Maybe the TV Hulk or Wonder Woman for upper limits of power...?
>>98474814>you think anyone would be down to play something like this? What gave you the impression that OP was interested in games? The generic "what system for x" post or the complete lack of any context with it?
>>98474755That would be COPS
>>98477550I would use Savage Worlds with the Super Powers companion, and just keep the power point totals relatively low.
>>98474755Outgunned, but you have to renounce the investigation during the game, and you must love to narrate a Yakuzesque fight with your frens of the Theater club while playing Yathzee.Interlock (or better Cyberpunk removed of all the Cyber) if you love to roll a die with your frens and ask a skill check even to sniff coke on the asscrack of a Puerto Rican stripper.BRP is a good choice too. But use the base manual, not Mythras, not homebrew. Take the Golden Book and remove what you don't need.Genesys is a good choice too, especially if you are able to find that small official .pdf about investigation. However, you and your frens should be good to take advantage of the peculiar die system with their advantages, threats, triumphs, and despairs. There are probably tons of PtBA in this genre. And GURPS? Grandpa GURPS always wins, baby..
>>98474755Cyberpunk 2020’s combat system was made using FBI studies and ballistics from the 80s. I’d recommend it as a good middle ground between fun and crunchy. Maybe mix it with Delta Green’s investigations? I’ve never really played a detective rpg.
>>98477044Yes
>>98478410>A larger than life genre where the protagonists have plot armor out the ass>"These two hyper lethal systems with PCs made of toilet paper would totally work that!"
>>98477550I'm currently running a campaign like that. The party is a rambo-like vietnam vet, robocop but a drunkard, Blade, but if instead of half-vampire he was half-demon, and basically james bond but russian.I'm using GURPS Action + GURPS Monster Hunter
Miami 86 is basically a Miami Vice ttrpg using Cairn/Into the Odd rules. the actual content is solid, points of interest, characters, adventure seeds, the mechanics.the only issue, the physical print quality is dogshit. the paper is way too thick and there's zero inner gutter margin, so the spine is going to snap in no time. reminds me of the first time i ordered a custom printout and fucked up every formatting setting, except they're actually selling this as a finished commercial product.
>>98478205>There are probably tons of PtBA in this genre.Cartel. Never ran it but it looked okay if that's what you want. >>98478037Nah dude, C.O.P.S. is edgy 90s early 2000s cyberpunk by french people. Very different vibes than Miami Vice 80s neon nostalgia.
>>98477063Might be. If the point is just guns, even FODG would be something to scavenge for.
>>98478037French (and Canadian) anons, please tell me about COPS and other hidden gems!
>>98479651If you are looking for car chases, drug, gunfisghts and clue gathering, COPS is a great system>>98480061Still playing it, it's very fun.It was written by the same guy that did In Nomine Satanis (except we got the good version but the US was unable to have fun with religion so you got the serious one)
>>98480154Yeah, I know. I have looked at the pretty pictures from sourcebooks and Casus Belli magazine, as well as some online summaries. I'm not sure how unserious INS/MV is compared to In Nomine, but the English vesion has really tongue in cheek art, I love it.I'm not Anglo, but I don't speak French, so I'm linguistically impaired.
>>98474780This^
>>98477063They have a Gumshoe procedural (just with superheroes added) in Mutant City Blues.
Its really weird that there isn't a system specifically for this. A Miami Vice rpg would be great
i would use delta green because it's simple enough. i'd just need some more source material on mundane investigations and procedures
>>98474995This.
>>98480880Is there anything about MCB that is particularly "cop," though?
>>98474755Weirdly the old Mechwarrior RPG. Its very 80s and has very much Miami Vice life paths.
>>98480061>French (and Canadian) anons, please tell me about COPSCheck it yourself, it's in traditional rpgs > storyteller systemgf /d/2wVRLn
>>98489041Ay, I've seen it in Jeux Français. I can't really tell what it says except for one or two words per page. At the first glance it seems they've released it like White Wolf's oWoD products, with yearly themes and metaplot advances. One of those 'you had to be there' type of IPs.
>>98488904So weird to have a Mechwarrior RPG where you can have a full, functional game where you never even see a mech.
>>98478426No.Fuck You.People want to play games, not spreadsheets.
