Recently started playing as an adult. When I was a kid, I was gifted a chess set by an older cousin that was medieval themed. The pawns were standing men-at-arms, the rooks were castle towers with ivy around them, etc. I never played chess with them, I played with them like regular toys. I have fond memories of the set. Just look at chess engine matches, and they play a wide variety of styles, it's not like tic-tac-toe where you will always win if you put your sign in certain places at the beginning. Plus, it is just fun. The process of trying to find the best move, or the best sequence, or just having to beat an opponent, is enjoyable and gives me a thrill.
