Also, some things have never been scanned, so it needs someone who owns a copy to do so, or someone who can afford to buy a pricey eBay copy and then do the work (and also potentially damage it). I see rarities all the time on Facebook marketplace that end up getting purchased quickly by well-heeled old-timers whom it wouldn't even occur to to scan them for preservation's sake, which is frustrating. I chatted with a guy last winter who managed to buy up to issue #200 of Alarums & Excursions, but he said he'd never share them, despite the fact Lee Gold siad she will never sell the pdfs ever again since she retired from it. So those will be lost to time unless someone decides to not be stingy.
