>>98509523Ah, yes. As we all know, the most defining feature of dwarves is their insectoid carapace
>>98509718The artist based his design on Norse mythology. The dwarves came from maggots. It is a cool idea to make them insectoid around that fact.
>DUDE what if not Tolkien?????Yawn. Just make your dwarves and elves actually dwarves and elves. Sick of this "creative" shit.
>>98505350>Why he is doing it in that image!Thank you Professor Oak.
>>98502657Beeeeetlesssss
>>98510289>>98510054>It's funny to be that the puritybros who hate this image are completely wrong about the original dwarves.>They were birthed from maggotsNo, they aren't and they weren't.They were birthed LIKE maggots in the flesh of Ymir; that's not the same thing as being literally maggots.See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dwarf_(folklore)>In the quotation of Völuspá in the Prose Edda, the dwarfs emerge as beings with human form (mannlíkun), while in the Codex Regius manuscript the first two dwarfs created either dwarfs or people with human forms.[34] The prose of the Ynglinga saga describes a dwarf sitting, standing, and speaking, leading to the proposal that at the time of writing, dwarfs were believed to, at least sometimes, have a human-like form>Dwarfs are also widely referenced in these sources as having family relations with others, such as brothers and sons, implying motherhood, and not merely emerging from the earth>In saga material, dwarf children are also seen>Conversely, in Sigurðar saga þǫgla, the human Hálfdan is cursed after he throws a rock at a dwarf child, breaking its jaw, and is subsequently visited by the child's father in a dream who curses him. Hálfdan's brother later gives the child a gold ring to atone for the harm None of this implies "beetles birthed from maggots". Most likely dwarves were similar to giants in just being spirits in anthropomorphic, very human like form.

I'm the biggest Chud here and I think bug dwarfs are cool. All the lesser performative chuds need to check themselves, or I'm rescinding their invitation to the Chud moot. This is clearly not political.
This is the same sort of faggot that thinks he can get away with making Elves into plant people. NO, you fucking can't. You wouldn't turn humans into bugs and say "OH look at my totally Original style on humans! See, I turned them all into bugs! Aren't I so Creative?!"
>>98510760Elves were Plant people in fucking Glorantha, which was from nineteen seventy fucking five. And they were fine.Greg Stafford was a fucking anthropologist. His stuff is original, but draws on actual mythopoeic themes, and frankly, is better than anything you have or ever will imagine. You are a fake Chud, AND a fake Grog.
>>98510768DESU I don't know any other settings that have plant people that are called "elves", are there any?
>>98502657this post ams dildos
>>98510113no
>>98510760Humans don't belong in fantasy settings at all, unless the world is Earth, like Lord of the Rings.
>>98510768Absolutely bodied that freak
tolkien is shit and middle earth is boring as fuck and not nearly as fleshed out as his dickriders say, there i said it
>>98514894Your preferred settings? List three, if you could.
>>98502657this are also the dwarfs
>>98514936these dwarf are all they're are
>>98514941evil and dwarf even! imagine
I keep things simple>dwarves are rock people with asbestos beards>elves have wooden bones and tree branch antlers>halflings are rabbits from the waist down>gnomes are a sentient illusions>orcs reverse-wereboars
>>98514944not dwarf
>>98510768Mixing dryads and elves together was great. It makes elves a bit more exotic and interesting.

>>98502657It's either this or "dwarves are made of stone/metal"You fags are only able to have this 1 idea and you still think you're the next Tolkien, literally #notlikeothergirls behavior.
>>98516391This is the first time I see insect dwarf, actually
The names “dwarf” or “elf” are not sacred, and people who act like they are are idiots. You can apply them to whatever you want. But can is not should, if you’re getting especially creative with concept, you’re doing your creation a disservice to try and force the connection by name.
>>98517059These have more of a 'right' to the name of dwarves than Tolkien's crypto-jews.

>>98502657This is pretty damn awesome and I'm an osrg 1e chud. If all freakshit slop were this great maybe I wouldn't be such a bitter old man.
>>98519793Furries are weird.
>>98514946Pretty based. My homebrew has all humanoid races as the descendants of the giants, following different evolutionary paths.Dwarves have a long sleep cycle where they spend 2-3 days at toil, then 1-2 asleep. Live underground for safety's sake, but the hill and mountain dwarves have different approaches. The former have fields laced with booby traps, staggered cycles so at least some dwarves are awake at any time, and often intermingle with other races that can be hired as watchmen when the resting days come. The latter have fortifications and a synchronized cycle. There are no halflings or gnomes in my setting, as their niches are taken up by the dwarves and homebrew races.
>>98510479That's a pretty interesting interpretation, then, ignoring the standardised Tolkien template when it comes to how they look and using the source itself for that, is it also why he made his elves of wood?
dwarfs = elfs = little magical guysthat live in the forrest(fae)
>>98502657iirc this guy's work was trying to make a purposefully more monstrous (appearance-wise) and weird fantasy rather than just>human and human adjacent + furriesI think he mostly does a good job, though yes it's not recognizably a pop culture dwarf
>>98519793Hobbit does kind of make a connection to "hoppit" even though Tolkien probably would have used more action descriptions related to how rabbits move rather than walking.Interesting though. I wonder what I would have thought if I had known how to read a book...
