>>98507131thanks for baking!
>>98507131>How much do you like to homebrew when playing a niche wargame with others? My favourite niche wargame is Mutant Chronicles: Warzone. So I'm quite open to homebrewing units, equipment and powers for the factions. It's fun to do and lets me pretend that it's still a living game, even if no one else will see it.
Should I take the leap and try out Warmachine? I haven't played for a while, early MK3, but I've seen Kithguard and I admit I fell for the meme Rambo Trollbloods. Is there any resource online to check how each army plays?
North Star's Bohemian knights are coming next month
>>98507340I forgot to mention it's Warzone 2nd edition I homebrew for. Warzone Eternal is alive and kicking for now.
>>98500206>waaah waaah I can't follow basic as fuck regulations to sell items to the second largest consumer market in the worldwhat a moron. Like I don't even care
>>98507457>regulations just to ship toys to another nanThe European mind is enslaved
>>98507501If they don't regulate your toys then Grandma will get bad medicine and die chud because its either all or nothing apparently.
>>98507501Fameously America has no regulations, and tariffs. He has problems with GPSR. He's a rank amateur
>>98507131>TQI'd like to use some houserules for Xenos Rampant the next time I play it.>>98507399Damn these look nice. Need to buy at least a box of all Hussite kits. Very excited to see the war wagons next year. Seems like they pushed the warriors of Athena plastic heroes to the undetermined near future. Shame, I'm sure that box would've also been full of nice bits.
>>98507501Sure would be crazy if some orange man forced everyone buying something from another country to do some weird import shit for no reason.
>>98507608>America is the only country to impose tariffs on other nations imports Lol
>>98507699as a leaf I think the hype over the tariffs was rather overdone, considering our long-standing tariffs on metal, wood, beef and a few other things coming in from the states have been 200% to 400% for a very long time.
I was thinking of getting into fantasy games with a small army of goblins from Knightmare and then Oathmark elves as opponents, but I realised those goblins are rather large(middle photo). Or the elves small. I seems I'll have to turn to printing and get elves from another range. Or the gobs. Although I like their designs.
>>98507501I think this one is mainly because of the cheap shit flooding in from China
>>98507826Are those Seaguard on the right?
>>98507871the dude that has duplicate is "Aegean Elf Lord of the Sea", but the one with 1 arm is I think yes a WHF seaguard
>>98507896Thanks Anon!
How does one go about actually getting their ruleset produced? When I see games like Hobgoblin get made and have a small following it makes me realize that games don't have to actually be good to get published.
>>98508062What do you mean, "produced"? You can make a pdf and sell it on wargame vault easily enough. If you want a real publisher then you probably have to talk to Osprey.
>>98508062Distribute it online as a pdf or get some printing company to make booklets of it.
Hey anons, I've got five Assault Intercessors and a Bladeguard Veteran as a Lieutenant. Does anyone know of some cool solo games they could be used in while maintaining the 40K lore-inspired Power Trip that being a Space Marine ought to bring? I'm leafing through Space Station Zero, and it looks cool, but it doesn't really make you "feel" like a Space Marine. I was told to try building Power Armoured units in Planet 28, because that apparently makes you really killy, but I haven;t done that yet.Anything jump out at you worth recommending?
>>98508142Xeno Force is an off-brand space marine spec-ops co-op game.
>>98508151Never heard of this one before. Googling now. Any key points I should know? Thanks for the quick reply btw
Well, MCP just had a massive update... at long last and... fuck me I think the planets must have aligned because AMG actually didn't fuck it up and appear to have put some actual effort into this.So a fucking mountain of characters got more health and nobody knows how THAT'S going to change things up yet. But, at least four problematic characters got much deserved slapdowns and most of them seem to be pretty comprehensive. The Hulk one was probably too much though, he didn't need to lose his Character throw going into what's probably going to be a very Throw/Push heavy meta. But at least four characters got some pretty serious buffs as well. Character who have been garbage for literally years! Mr Sinister, one of their best sculpts, is now actually functional. Shadow King... needs more work, but we're getting there! HulkBuster might actually be good now... or at least not terrible.Oh and Mag Fucking Neto could actually be worth his cost for the first time in history. The only downside is those who DIDN'T get needed buffs, principally Spider-Foes, which only really got health increases... although for some of them this might be all they need. So we'll have to see.
>>98508161It's fairly heavy, and basically like an RPG but just the mission played as a skirmish game. The main drawback is that it has two very short campaigns and not much advice on how to make more, other than stats for 40k factions.
>>98508189Yeah from what I've read on the website it's not really what I'm looking for, but I appreciate your suggestion anon!
>>98508193Really? It seems to me like exactly what you described wanting.
>>98508208Let's see, I'm looking for something similar to Space Station Zero, but with more of a focus on the power fantasy side of things. I like SSZ for how it handles different scenarios and enemy factions, and I also kinda like how OPR handles unit profiles, with Space Marines being of a markedly higher quality than their average opponent, so perhaps what I'm looking for is just a bit too niche? Have you played Fallout Wasteland Warfare? I like how Power Armoured individuals work in that game, having a solid stat line that is augmented by their Power Armour. In that game, you're typically quite outnumbered if you're armoured up, but you can tackle their numbers thanks to increased strength, durability and by becoming more of a weapons platform than a mere soldier/unit. Maybe I would be best making my own unit cards for Fallout? I was just hoping people might know of some games that sell the "I'm a Space Marine" feel.
What is the best army in Warmachine mk4 for Carver? I simply like the models and was thinking where would it work best. Any tips?
Thoughts and opinions on 1490 Doom?>Set in a dark low fantasy middle ages europe where a creeping miasma seeps up from the earth rising and falling with the day but each year its baseline is higher than the last>Most of the land is rivers of sludge, black dead forests and barren fields of cattle corpses and dead crops>People are fleeing upwards, The rich in mountain fortresses but the rest in treetop shacks, atop abandoned cathedrals or even tiny islands in a sea of fog like piece of ancient roman aqueducts or old bridges.>Players build a team of 3 from archetype characters like a disgraced knight, assassin, beekeeper, mad priest and so on>Fight your way to the top while collecting loot and using tools like grappling hooks and a lucky dice roll to escape the rising miasma>Winning a fight can often be making the choice to push the opponent over the side of a ledge rather than go for the kill>Is effectively taking the skirmish idea into a King of the Hill focus over the usual Death Match or objective capping idea.>Has solo play, campaign and tournament rules>Produced a dungeonsynth album to accompany play>Is played on a circular 24 inch field focussed on terrainSeems like a quick paced alternative to Mordheim thats caught my attention. But is it another Mork Borg style over substance idea?Personally i think it looks neat and hopefully the small model count can interest my normie friends who loved Underworlds but that games dead as dicks nowadays.
>>98508233>the "I'm a Space Marine" feelBut that's exactly my point. Xeno Force has hit locations and strong enough dudes that you can lose an arm and still fight off the alien hordes to finish the mission. It seems to me like exactly what you're after rather than just slightly better stats and a good save.
>>98508270>archetype characters>beekeeper
>>98508274Ah, see, none of that was listed on the website lol Thanks for the info anon, I'll look into this.
>>98508291I said what i said.

>>98508329The Chaotic Good equivalent of the Plague Doctor. Sick drip but only a portent of doom if you piss him off enough to drop bees through your window.
>>98508270The constant shilling by hobby libtards and the joke of a starter set have put me off tßh.
>>98508270The starter is interesting but why 2 models per side? if its a three a side game that seems like you arent cutting down on that much complexity and just means at least one person isnt getting a full team depending on which characters 2 players like and want to keep using.
>>98508329Just dudes LARP with paper plate holders on their faces.
>>98508302After hearing that this is a Mormon project, that makes a weird sort of sense.
>>98508270I feel like its a game thats quite simple and might give it appeal, might kill longterm player retention. Just gotta see which as it gets some buzz.I've noticed it seems to be catching the interest of both Frostgrave and Turnip28 players. Which is interesting because i thought most turnipfags just turned into Trenchfags by default.
>>98508270I think core gameplay wise i dont see why this couldnt be a single rules scenario for Necromunda or Mordheim. But i do like the idea of the circular small board that people are building these bespoke dioramas with a focus on verticality for. That idea i think has some legs over yet another fucking game thats a flat surface with L shaped ruins. Tired of that shit.
>>98508270That guy uncle atom did a video on it, so I know I won't be buying it
>>98508496I think the idea of smaller more verticle boards is a good idea more games could use. Too often for games this thread is focussed on we get boards that are flat and way way too big or ones that just dont think about finding a middle ground between rule of cool and waacshit.
>>98508270Hi Cody. Your game is lame as fuck. I prated the rules and they are very very boring. That you don't even know the wargame version of mork borg to compare it to is deeply telling of how much paid advertising this is. You're trying to charge $115 leafbucks (on sale from $140! wowiezowie) for 4 models, 2 counters, a ladder and some mfd.You can't even make 2 warbands for your ultra minimalist game with 4 models. There are no rules for any of the things you describe like >People are fleeing upwards, The rich in mountain fortresses but the rest in treetop shacks, atop abandoned cathedrals or even tiny islands in a sea of fog like piece of ancient roman aqueducts or old bridges.Has nothing to do with anything in the game. There are no mechanics for the entire thematic focus. Most skirmish games have pushing models off heights. Its been part of it since at least RT. This is nothing new masquerading as hot shit astroturfed badly.
>>98508506>>98508496>>98508270Mate...
>>98508270What could have been a cool alt historical setting with a unique horror/thriller theme added on instead turned into another wannabe grimdork slop fest. How are you going to have a game all about rising mist/miasma and have ZERO MIST MECHANICS 1480 era Gothic knights and early Landsknechts would have been a kino aesthetic but instead they went with generic 28mag blandshitzu slop. Why even mention the year 1480 at all? It's completely irrelevant
>>98508270>>98508496>>98508506Very strange that this game was made by Mormons considered the unchristian aesthetic. Though seeing their aggressive and annoying shilling you can tell it has Mormon roots
>>98508729>a game all about rising mist/miasma and have ZERO MIST MECHANICSlulwut? There's nothing in the game about the mist?
>>98508729There's a scenario for Carnevale where there's an insidious mist spreading across the battlefield and you have to get to higher ground or at least keep moving as it makes its way down the street.

>>98508898Thank god we will always have Mordheim.
>>98508827Bummer, hopefully doesn't impact Alien Zooology too much, looked like an interesting game but also that it was more someone else' project.
>>98508909I really wish something like Morheim but not it.Mostly because it is a matter of time before GW pulls a NuMorheim like the NuNecromunda and the Nu NuNecromunda.GW having any posibility of touching their old game just splits the player base. For some fucking reason the "new hat" is too alluring for the average fuck.

>>98509152Perhaps the same can be said of all religions, but enough talk, have at you!
>>98508729I've noticed in general games don't really like to use "weather" for lack of a better term in rules. Maybe its because its more abstract than terrain where they can go "from edge to edge this pond is terrain that slows movement" but its a shame as i feel like the environment being a third element of risk can be a super interesting way to add variety but the closest i've ever seen was Bushido doing shit like "this game has a well haunted by an onryo" which was a random element but still ultimately just a form of hazardous terrain.
>>98508483Is Turnip still a thing? it never felt like a proper game and just an excuse to stick tufts on old napoleonics and i havent heard about it in a few years now.
Has anyone created a good set of generic narrative charts for determining a story for your little army depending on if you win or lose
>>98509279If you need charts for turning the events of the game into a narrative, you probably shouldn't be trying to turn the events of the game into a narrative.
>>98509279Bro its time to stop using chatgpt before you just stop thinking entirely.
>>985092795 Core Skirmish Essentials has a decent set of narrative charts at the back for post battle campaign progress, events, the next phase of the war, etc. Most of the Nordic Weasel stuff is geared for campaign play narratives and has procedural tables for it.
>>98509315Nta but sometimes pure random is really fun in the right context.Oathmark in Bane of Kings has random charts for the passage of time and events between games, and MAID is a fun character creator.

I heard a lot of hype around then nothing much good about it and I stopped paying attention. Is it too late to get into it? It's pre-covid lock downs right, are the early expansions still available new or am I going to have a hard time chasing down old sculpts and cards?
>>98509218Generally speaking something like weather as in its snowing or raining. Mechanically speaking would be at best some debuff to movement and range. As a result everyone is affected making it kind of pointless outside of a one of scenario. So unless the units playing the scenario are noticeably affected by it and you can't really take them out from your army due to being a continuation of a campaign or a result from a random table they are usually mechanically irrelevant.Another issue is that some games that have it they usually have something that is not affected by them or gets a benefit like for example sand people moving faster during a sand storm or some vehicle ignoring the penalties of moving in snow. So as a result it just suck for the other guy or the sand people player is gimped on regular games because sand storms are not a thing in regular games.Different situation would be something like smoke grenades or fires. Since usually they are result of players actions and just affect a small part of the board so there is some way to play around them.
>>98508182What's the change with Magneto, is he still only worth running as a leader of his own affiliation or did they buff him enough that he's playable outside of that?>>98509562Game never not been worth trying out, anon. >>98509892I don't plan to solo, it's just that having two armies is the only way I can get my friends to play. Maybe calling them armies is a stretch. Warbands.I was considering 15mm, but I'm aiming for 20 vs 20 models size battles at very maximum so 28mm should be fine. Also I don't know many sources of good 15mm fantasy minis.
>>98510231>20 vs 20 What even is the point of playing a fantasy battle as such a small low intensity fight? 20 dudes seems good for some space commandos infiltrating a star port for a snatch and grab, or some Boers raiding a British telegraph station... but a fantasy battle? Pointless
>>98510306Sounds like a you problem not getting the appeal of smaller skirmish forces clashing.I admit that I should've wrote around 20-25 instead.
>>98508270Have you bought this brand of models? if so how are the sculpts & are they delicate? >>98507399really love how these knights look, i should pick them up for another fantasy theme game.
>>98508898Wait a minute...I've seen this on LAF!MM? I've encountered more LAFers here on /tg/ than I'd have expected
>>98510327>smaller skirmish forces clashing I love skirmish games. It just makes literally zero sense in the context of fantasy why there would be only 20 fully armor clad elves wandering around by themselves. These aren't spec ops troops with stealth and suppressed firearms, they are using spears and shields. If the mission is so unimportant that they only send 20 dudes then they wouldn't be fully kitted up in battle armor. In actual real "skirmish" battles that used a similar tech level to fantasy elves and orcs, hundreds, often thousands of dudes were involved. The only plausible scenario that 20 battle ready warriors get caught alone would be if they were a screening force or scouts, but in that case they would be mounted and get engaged by a mounted enemy
>>98510357What if the game represents only a part of a bigger battle. What if it's a silly fantasy thing that they are in full gear, what if it's a small warband of goblins raiding a village, what if they had no mounts in your example, what if...What if I just wanted to play with cool looking toy soldiers they way I like it, anon?
>>98510381>what if I just make stupid shit up hehe
>>98510405Well, yes, what if? Are you going to come to my house and stop me from playing because I dared to use too few but not few enough minis in my game and made up some reasoning on the spot because someone was asking for it?
>>98510357Not necessarily. A knight in full kit or three and their followers is a very small group but they'd have better gear than most people they'd be sent out to fight. In part because why would you not show off your fancy armor to onlookers, so they may speak of sir Tristan in white and green whom slew three men in single combat.
>>98510420No one is going to stop you from doing retarded shit bro, just stop acting surprised when people think it's dumb

>>98509562>Does this mean the game might be worth playing now? It's very much a time will tell situation. Just about everything has a lot more health now, so characters are harder to just one-shot across the board. As for how to get started... well, your options are to either get a Core Set which comes with a smattering of Avengers and CABAL (Generic evil faction) models, tokens, dice, rulers and more importantly terrain. Or you can get a starter box, which is about £50 cheaper, only contains a single faction's models, but usually a pretty comprehensive selection. As well as the rulers, tokens and dice, but no terrain. For terrain, TTC do a selection of tournament packs, with the cheapest being £37 but that means having to build it yourself.>>98509714>What's the change with Magneto, is he still only worth running as a leader of his own affiliation or did they buff him enough that he's playable outside of that?I mean he was never really worth taking as a leader either before, you just used Mystique with her very strong objective focused leadership. Now, he might be worth it as a 6 threat. The took away his "Spend energy to force your opponent to check on your blue defence" ability and just made him a 4-4-6 defensively. But gave him a replacement ability to just go "No. You aren't pushing or throwing me." They removed his spender nobody ever used and replaced it with a much much better one, and his infinite terrain throw is just "Pay 2 +1 for every other time you've done this" now, mostly due to changes in collision rules they made in 2025.So, he's gone from a very slow 6 threat who never has the energy to really do anything because he has to save it to survive being attacked. To a guy who will probably have enough energy to just blow up half the board every turn, most likely feeding decent amounts of energy to the rest of his team through his leadership. On the downside, he's now also Peerless, so he can't be splashed with other Peerless characters.
>>98510822Let me break it down for you, hermano. The specifically Roman religion is the cult of the deified emperor of the Roman empire. The broader goy (aka. true) religion is the cult of God and the various soteriological deities of civilization who, alongside the higher man of the eucumene, do battle against the demons of entropy and their bio-leninist servants. "People" who genitally mutilate children and weaponize usury are in the latter category.Calling some new cult of a midrashich jew a Roman religion does not make it so anymore than giving some new Nigerian arrival a French passport makes him a European.Thank you for your attention to this matter.
>Its another debate about Christianity and Rome discussionRoman paganism failed because it had no answer to diseases that the plebs were happy with and the only thing saving the Roman Empire in the end was a unified Religion which acted as cultural glue. "Skill issue sacrifice more I guess maybe the Gods will stop being mad lmao" doesn't go down well with the poors. Stop being edgy atheists or larping tradcaths, obviously a universal culture that is supporting of the poor and pressures the rich to consider the plight of the plebs if they want to go to the good afterlife is going to do better than others that don't have that aspect and that loss of cultural glue is partly why everything feels so low trust and scammy.
>>98510357Many soldiers are expected to bring their battle kit when on work duty. A group of 20 elves with spears could be wrapping up road clearing duties. IRL big battles also rarely happened, most conflicts were smaller because actual investment of big armies was incredibly risky and no one did it willingly unless they thought they could win. Almost all of the major battles in history happened because both Generals thought they could win. A lot of combat takes place between smaller groups and can often times be deadlier because its not planned usually and there's not enough people on either side to often force a stare off where everyone just fences with spears in between blocks of infantry.
>>98511083>unified ReligionThe cult of the deified emperor; cult of Mithras, cult of Sol Invictus, etc. all predate Theodosius. >>98510822fun fact: when rome invaded england they put up fanes and made sacrifices to appease local gods of a region they called a "genus loci" because they wanted them to allow the bog men to also pretend the jews were magic, so even the most basic soldier knew it was all just a business franchise even back then.

>>98511146>>98511156To clarify: The invasion of Britain (not yet England) was 1st century CE. The state mandated jew-worship started in the late 4th century CE, after which they abandoned Britain to the Nordics (whence "England").Jovian Romans conquered Britain and made votive offerings to the genius locii.Christianized Romans tore down the altar of Victory and lost Britain.
>>98508729Technically there is. The sell of the setting is every character you play is somebody wearing some kind of mask or rudimentary breathing device to survive for a time in the fog. After certain actions it seems you can break or in some way remove an opponents ability to breath normally at low levels and until they get high they need to make a roll or lose 1 health and when most have 3-5 health that kills quick. It aint perfect but keeps the incentive there to get high up.
My local has some Frostgrave players who want to do one of the book campaigns. I'm looking at Wrath of The Lich Lord, is it good?
>>98511138Hisrorians think youre wrong but okay, Christianity explicitly spread like wildfire during plagues in Rome. Sorry but this is actually a key reason why Rome not only became Christian but had such a hard time with Persia because both Christianity and Zoroastrarianism were much more integrated into the state and society than Pagan Rome ever had it. I dont need to read your revisionism on this subject, its incredibly pedestrian.

>>98511003>>98510822Fucking retards. The Roman religion was a pagan one that was influenced by the Greek religion. It was not until the early 4th century, towards the later years of the classical Roman Empire, that Emperor Constantine agreed to let christianity be adopted by Rome in order to appease the violent christian mobs and insurrectionists (oh look, an abrahamic religion using violence and terrorism to get its way, never seen that before) and it would share its position with the pagan gods until bishops and christian politicians whom had worked their way into power managed to get the old gods outlawed (oh look, agents of an abrahamic religion subverting and abusing power to get their own way, can't possibly have seen that before)Shortly, relative to the existence of Rome, afterwards the Roman civil war happened, Rome split, and the classical empire died, plunging Europe into the Dark Ages.So yeah, Rome and Greece are the basis of societal, scientific, and cultural advancements and christianity, after nearly ruining everything, just slapped a "made by christ" sticker on it and built on the works of the greats. Not atheist btw, just not emotionally invested in worshipping a dead jew above historical evidence
>>98511496Yeah. It's one of those things that irks me and I think it extends from classical depictions of knights, where shields are often depicted, and from dnd, where there is this idea that a shield adds to your nebulous "defence number" whereas in reality 5 - 10mm of planking is going to do Jack shit save tire you faster because your already covered in solid metal.Interestingly shields died amongst the foot too save for pavises and the occasional targe or buckler as the trend moved towards two handed weapons to help crack armour or fend off cavalry or fight in deep, supporting, formations. Also yeah, laundry day, what is even with that getup?
>>98511535probably not, Frostgrave doesn't care too much what level you are.You can always add some monsters in if you feel its getting too easy. Could also go back to earlier 5 Parsecs From Home, 1st ed was very narrative play focused and built on 5 core skirmish and homage to RT era stuff. Keep in mind RT era marines were not invincible and you might be better off looking for the Movie Marines rules and using 3rd/4th edition 40K Kill Team if you want that sort of gameplay. Could look at Rogue Planet, but its a very odd game trying to make a pbta skirmish.
>>98512636>Renegade Scout.I actually have the rules for this, I bought them on sale and never really gave them much attention. Could you give me a brief downlow? If I recall correctly, the game is roll-under, right?Appreciate the reply anon.
>>98512687Its roll under. Most of the stats are roll under 1d6, some are 2d6 like Leader(ship) and Cool Under Fire. There are modifiers, unit coherency, blat templates, roll an extra dice for having 2 hand to hand weapons, stuff you'll be familiar with that are direct 40k early edition references. Its alternating activation with first move to whoever wins a roll off+ Leader score. Its totally serviceable medium-low complexity platoon scifi stuff but nothing revolutionary, formatted in a decently usable way. Does what it says on the tin: platoon sized conflict but has rules for smaller squads and rp gameplay style Nordic Weasel does a lot of. Its not one I mess with much, I'm quite happy with 5core but if you want something more granular that's RT inspired but a bit less clunky I think it works. Guy has like half a dozen variations on that sort of idea with different levels of granularity.
>>98512746>Alternating activationMarvelous, as the years have passed I've become more and more fond of this method. It's cool to know its Rogue Trader inspired, I was playing that earlier in the year and had a blast. I appreciate the info anon, I'll have to give the rules a read.

>>98516471You roll only once to hit, but if successful you score as many hits as the number between brackets. So if you have a Blast (3) weapon you roll once when shooting but a success hits 3 models. If your target has 1 to 3 models they are all hit. If your weapon is Blast (5) then on a successful hit you actually hit 5 models. It's because lorewise you shoot only one ammo but it explodes on contact and hit everything in it's radius/area of effect, so multiple enemies are hit despite the single shot.
>>98516670I see. I think I get it. I'll put it into practice and discuss your explanation with my buddy. Because we both might be actually retarded, we both got no diffed by the rules explanation.

>>98515074Not really. Public domain doesn't kick in for 95 years, meaning stuff that entered the public domain this year is from 1935 or before, and the only wargames from that era are serious officer training tools like Kriegspiel and the stuff HG Wells produced. There's plenty that are effectively unsupported freeware and now handled by fan communities, though. Mordheim is probably the best example.

>>98507131Really dumb question but it's come up every time I've played Grimdark Future Firefight with people and it's because none of us are familiar with the rules outside of the self-ran games we play with each other:How does cover terrain actually work when it comes to being sight-blockers?Because I always thought that just mean the obvious: if the cover terrain is inbetween line of sight for the shooter and the target, then the cover bonus counts even though that target is not physically inside the cover terrain blob itself. It's just, I've also had people argue that sight blockers just means things that literally block the model, because the rules specifically mention sandbags as cover terrain. Like they read the rules as "you have to be inside a forest to get cover, or you got to be behind something that physically blocks a chunk of the model like sandbags"
>>98519735Are you using like, flat cutouts without any trees as your forest?
>>98519755Yeah. I like cutouts in general for transport and for maneuvering minis through them, and it works well with GDF: Future being a light skirmish game. Means we can bring most of what's required for the game in a cigar box and play a match whenever.
>>98519927You might need to get some simple trees to stick on there to make the concept that trees exist clear to your fellows
>>98519953I actually do have a simple 3" tree I use as reference in the occasions where we use elevated terrain (we've 3D printed some catwalks and ruins that are easy to fold up or disassemble) and want to check if you would see over the trees to spot the target model. It's not so much a matter of abstraction being too hard to grasp and more just some people trying to twist the rules regarding what's a piece of cover terrain and what's a sight blocker, and trying to distinguish the two. I guess I'll just hammer it in further that individual trees would be sight blockers anyways. I just thank god we don't play with multi-model units, because if this is already too much for them to stomach, I'd hate to see how they'd react to the fact that the perimeter of unit coherency is called a full sight blocker in the rules, regardless of spacing.
>>98519735I always just ran that some cover fully blocks los, and can be drawn to but grants a cover save when you're in it. You can't see through the trees, you can mostly see them in the trees, and you can totally see them between you and the trees. You could rule that things low to the ground like sandbags, trenches and craters only provide a bonus when you're in it, but can be seen through.
>>98519197He said that in his original response, that was still too complicated for the retard asking. If OPR is that confusing maybe you just need to play vidya

>Say "hop hop hop hop" again motherfucker
>>98519735Having sight blocked is a binary situation in most game: you have no sight at all so you can't shot or you have partial sight so it provides cover to the target. There's usually an exception if the shooter is above the target and another if the shooter is within 1" of the cover itself. It's general consensus and not GFF related so you might have a somewhat different situation but I kinda doubt it would be that far way.

>>98520884I don't understand why cover always has to be overcomplicated. Infinity has an elegant solution for skirmish size games: the model must be in base contact with a terrain piece and the cover bonus is always the same. Done. No arguing about halves or quarters or elevation.
>>98521119Doesn't really account for scenarios where a piece of terrain is between the two models but neither is touching it. Seems a bit discordant that you could shoot someone through a forest without any issues because the other model isn't hugging a tree.
>>98521130I think the idea in Infinity is that the troopers are supposed to cling to walls like in action movies or Gears of War. As in they're expected to actively seek cover rather than walk behind some ruins and hope for the best. However a case like yours is covered by special terrain rules: your example would count the forest as Jungle, so the trooper shooting would get Low Visibility and Saturation Zone penalties.I realize that this only applies to skirmish games and Infinity has a special kind of Spaniard autism built into it.

>>98521363We need a generic fantasy square grid system. I started working on one and as usual I stopped right when I got to the math and initial testing.
>>98521363It is easier to define line of sight when you're larger than buildings.
>>98521146I can definitely wrap my head around Infinity's shooting rules and it's fun. Wall hugging and flanking are a staple for vidyagaem players but still a novelty at the table, so the last two generations of newcomers feel the void and are often vocal about it. "What, no reaction shot?"That being said if a cover stands anywhere in the line of sight but not in contact you still feel like it should handicap the shooter or protect the target somehow.
>>98521119>>98521146>Its always this simple elegant solution except for when its not and you have to do a special rule that is exactly the same most other skirmish game for los through cover
>>98509304>>98509315Are you two retarded? Random charts like this have always been in the games. Mordhiem had random events your warband might encounter on the way back. Thats all I asked for. Hey anons, me again >>98508142 I think I've found my game, it's another Nordic Weasel fair called Rogue Hammer. It has an interesting method of approach when it comes to modern wargaming in that squads aren't dealt wounds, they take damage to their cohesion which degrades and repairs (if regroup actions are taken) throughout the battle. The Star Knights (Space Marines) operate in squads of 3 whereas Orcs and Goblins (for example) operate in squads of 6 to 8 respectively. The version of the rulebook I found online was quite out of date, so I spent £15 on the new and frequently updated rulebook on the Wargame Vault. In my eyes, it delivers on the Space Marine power fantasy I was looking for by representing them with a low model count but the damage potential of a larger unit, and their special rules also reflect a more competent force such as Priority Kill which gives +1 to hit / close combat rolls, or how their "Environment Suits" make them immune to the effects of the myriad dangerous terrain types, allowing them access to maneuvers that would put regular units at considerable risk. Now I'm gonna take my purple guys, I'll spare you my generic fluff, and add to them some more infantry and hopefully a Dreadnought thanks to the armoured walkers available to Star Knights. Thank you to >>98512636 for putting me on to Renegade Scout as well, I picked up the more recent rulebook for that while picking up Rogue Hammer and after reading it, there seems to be a lot of potential in it. So thanks again to everyone for your help, I really appreciate it.
>>98521119This. Games are best when line of sight and cover are abstract, ie. if you're in or touching the terrain, you get the bonus. This makes sense when you imagine the minis as little soldiers that move around and assume the best cover/go prone etc. It's different in Warhammer for example, because the players don't view the minis as little soldiers, they view them as game pieces. Which is why them will pull out laser pointers and argue they can target someone because they can beam the models ear. They don't imagine he's a real soldier who would have taken a knee to duck behind the cover, they simple see a static game piece and therefore think they should be able to play against it. This is why Warhammer players and their type are so problematic even when they try to play an alternative game; because their entire mentality is completely different and they struggle to conceptualize that you're trying to simulate a little imaginary battle on the tabletop instead of just playing a board game.
>>98522854What's the difference between Rogue Hammer and Squad Hammer, made by the same guy?
>>98522854Hi Ivan! Reading through Five Parsecs From Home 3rd edition. Isn't Snap Fire a bit too powerful compared to Aim? Why would you ever chose the later?
>>98522941Squad Hammer is an engine for generic wargaming, Rogue Hammer sets out to specifically cater to the old-hammer and warhammer fanbases.>>98522989>Hi Ivan!kekFor real though, I have the five parsecs rulebook, I just haven't read it. Yet.
>>98509342Huh will check out the Bame of Kings book even if I dont play oath mark
>>98522934I like how KoW: Vanguard did it. Everyone is assumed to be in cover all the time. If you can draw clear line of sight between all of you base and all of their base you get a bonus to hit for them being out in the open.
>>98522989I'm not sure if Ivan ever posted here, we used to joke about it an actual decade ago which is funny when I think about it but I don't think I remember him ever saying >hi buy my game F.A.D. or anything like that but I wasn't in /hgw/ as much. >Why would you ever chose the later? You don't chose snap fire. Its a thing a model can do if they roll equal to or under their reaction at the beginning of the turn, most reactions are 1 for starting crew. And then it only applies when something walks in front of the model you chose to have that chance. So its not happening very often compared to Aiming, which is rerolling a shooting attack of a 1 if you don't move. Very different activity. Aim seems underpowered though agree there.
Hey so what's the correct tank scale for 28mm? 1/56 like Warlord games is too small right? So is 1/52 a thing? Is 1/48 too big?
>>98522934>This is why Warhammer players and their type are so problematic even when they try to play an alternative gameIt's funny, out in the real world I'm yet to meet somebody under the age of about 60 that didn't start with Warhammer. Meanwhile on this anonymous imageboard where people are more interested in shitflinging the same old spam than discussing alt and historical wargames, which are grouped together into just a few threads so that they can survive, there seems to be so many "gold star" alt wargamers.
>>98523491I'm in my 30s and while I technically started painting with 40k, it's only true in the most literal sense that when I was a kid, someone got me some starter box (black reach?) and I assembled and painted the space marines using craft paint with no primer. I never played 40k and eventually my mom let my little brother paint over my space marines because I "wasn't using them". I didn't start any wargaming until years later when I got into Battletech. My first awg that goes in this thread was Malifaux, followed by Frostgrave, Gaslands, and Dracula's America. I still have not ever played a Warhammer (although I do have a Necromunda style gang on the back burner and would use it to play actual Necromunda if that opportunity came up)
>>98523311I've got a mix of 1/56 and 1/48. It varies a bit by the manufacturer and how big the vee is and how much it bugs you. A lot of the 1/56 stuff does end up "looking" small but I think some of that comes from the models being in action poses or otherwise taking up a lot of space so their bases don't look sparse and to brace their huge spaceguns. When you're inside the truck you're not trying to take up as much room as possible and a lot of utility vees and military equipment isn't built for comfort. The height of cars tends to get weird because the foot models have bases too. Anyway, I found the pictures on this old website helpful. https://pbase.com/hammerbolt/vsreais
>>98523676Judging by your link 1/35 is better for all around bigger vehicles? How is 1/48 look to you compared to 1/56?But yeah I basically want to add some ww2 tanks to heroic "28 mm" and have only ever used silly sci fi vehicles until now. Would like to have a panther shoot up some warzone imperials and such
I mean this is supposed to be 1/35 sherman and 1/48 tiger. The tiger looks like a runt and the sherman looks life sized to me but I dunno.
>>98523837I find irl vehicles tend to be longer and less chunky than a lot of 40K style and scifi vehicles so 1/35 doesn't work for me. 1/48 is I think the most functional in most cases and where to go if you want them to look heroic scale. Mixing 1/48 and 1/56 can start looking very strange and I have some I got in 1/56 first and am going to chop up to use as wreckage where it won't be as noticeable. This one's a Leman Russ, a 1/48 tank and a 1/35. The 1/35 gets too tonka toy for me but ymmv.
>>98523853Strangely enough, the 1/48 scale is closer to life size. Its more about how absurdly sized you want your future machines to be.
>>98523895Oh yeah the tracks are at head level my bad
