How do the FVTT gms out there deal with how frustrating the program is? I've been using this thing for 5+ years and it's so goddamn annoying, the the dev team just loves rolling out updates that break everything for no good reason (I stopped installing them long ago). Meanwhile there are still annoying UI quirks like the fact that you can't drag multiple items in a menu at once. You've got to have at least two dozen mods installed to unfuck various features of the program. So many times in the past I've had to deal with awkward technical difficulties in session, and now I've figured most of them out, but the program still just feels hostile and shitty to use. One of my friends just had her campaign end because the GM hit the update button that the UI begs you to click on, which fucked everything up. Foundry devs would put a fucking speed bump on a freeway exit. Also I've tried R20 and it's significantly worse, but if there's another feature-rich VTT out there I might consider switching.
>>98508948>the dev team just loves rolling out updates that break everything for no good reason (I stopped installing them long ago). You're supposed to have whatever version of the program that is valid for the most games you run as your main installation, and a pocket version of each of the other ones that that main installation can't run.>Meanwhile there are still annoying UI quirks like the fact that you can't drag multiple items in a menu at onceI'm more annoyed by the default drawing layer, I'm usually averse to installing add-ons that I assume will be covered in the base version in future updates, but trying to move a drawing object without moving another similarly sized drawing object above or below it is impossible. You'd think the lock function would just prevent you from being able to select it when using the cursor to select everything within a box, but instead it also selects the locked object and doesn't let you do anything to the group.
>>98508948>One of my friends just had her campaign end because the GM hit the update button that the UI begs you to click on, which fucked everything upYou can roll back which version you're on if you want, I don't remember exactly how but I know that it's possible because I've had the same thing happen to me in the past. One thing I can say that sucks with really any VTT is how fucking spoiled the players get when you use one. It ads an astronomical amount of work to the GMs plate because players expect certain things when you're using one. Every fight has to have a battle map that is aligned perfectly with the grid, and every creature has to have its own token. Every single NPC is expected to have their own artwork and now you need to make a million fucking journal entries about everything or else the players will never think about it again. Shit is so fucking annoying. In the past the players just wrote shit down in a notebook and the "map" was a shitty sketch on some grid paper and everyone was fine with it. Now you have to find a good battle map (or make one which takes even more time), like it up to the grid which never fucking aligns perfectly, then you need to add a bunch of bullshit walls and doors so the token vision is correct. Ooh yeah now you need tokens, and God forbid you use AI in any of the artwork for them. Maybe my players are just particularly huge bitches but man do I miss when you could get away with zero prep
>>98508948I have no idea what system you are trying to run or how many modules you add, I assume you play 5e, but I rarely had problems with Foundry.Every update improved the program and modules breaking is because they change the code>the the dev team just loves rolling out updates that break everything for no good reasonThey roll out updates rarely. The big version update is once in a year.Anything which breaks usually gets fixed soon and is always just few lines with few exceptions. V13 stabilized a lot of things.>You've got to have at least two dozen mods installedThat's your problem to play with modules who might break because their authors don't update them. You can play even without any module>her campaign end because the GM hit the update buttonYou can always make a backup before updating. Even when you update and before you open your world a huge popup asks "DO YOU WANT TO MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR WORLD">that the UI begs you to click onIt begs you so much it's a tiny icon on the top right corner which simply informs you that there is an update and you can ignoreEven better, you can now have standalone versions of the system and see if things break or work
>>98508948Have you tried not being retarded? I've run multiple campaigns in Foundry and I simply don't update it unless I'm prepping for the next one, and even then only to the version that all my modules I want to use can support. Since I can just choose what version.I don't click on the update button every 5 minutes like a labrat and use some common sense.
The devs of Foundry hate their customers. Every choice they have made in designing the interface is counterintuitive and needlessly complicated. Their lack of support for the community devs who keep the non DnD products on the platform is inexcusable. Their business model is driving non companies to abandon support of the platform. The next time Wizards yoinks with licensing this platform will be dead and Hasbro will buy the corpse for its next attempt at creation a vtt.
>>98509707This exact issue is what killed online play for me. I want to love it, but playoids are the worst.
>>98509707Inform your players they're being bitches then run a game set entirely in the internet in a 90s style hackerman setting.Every map is just green and black, enemies look like badly generated clusters of AI bullshit and they have to use a physical notepad to keep notes because anything in the journals is accessible by 'The Government' who can and will edit it to fuck with them.Never say which particular government, just The Government.
>>98509707I draw maps by hand in Foundry, I make no notes for the players and don't use any of the extra features in the software. I have a module for smoother drawing, and a module for a calendar. I have generic tokens that I copypaste my notes into their description in case I get confused by which is which. My players are happy, I am happy.
>>98508948Why are you wasting time on foundry when a plain featureless grid on roll20 (where to drawn on the spot) and the dice roller is more than enough? Even better, screensharing a grid on paint, google drive and using a diceroom.>inb4 muh macros!Lel, mathlet, try not playing with retards.>inb4 muh graphicsImaginlet, positioning is all that's needed for tactical combat, everything else is superfluous.
>>98521956>RicedollerOoh la-dee-daa fancy pants I see, 1% over here, ordinary dice made out of wood found in old Monopoly sets isn't good enough for you is it?>ScreensharingBaby needs a grid? Can't draw himself and transmit coordinates verbally in a clear and concise way?
