Can you imagine what WtA would look like if a furry joined the writing team (especially before W5)?

Pretty sure the first tenet of the Litany was supposed to be a meta way to deter those type of players and to give ST a reason to punish that behavior if it strays too far from earnest role-playing to furry yiffing territory.

I'm thinking of introducing some speedbump-style Spirits into my WtF game to break up the action-economy a bit and present some opportunities to my players.

They'll be recurring spirits with predictable behaviours that, once the PCs figure them out, they'll be able to use them as part of their Hunting strategies.

Saltwater Mire is a rank 1 Spirit that will accept anything given to it (ie, thrown into the water), and will try to grapple, drown and drain anyone and anything that steps in the water. Pollution is its Bane.

Steadfast Tree is a large tree that will shelter and protect anyone and anything under its bough. It will use its Numina to grant its Defence to the target of an attack. If this attack is reciprocated, Steadfast Tree will try to grapple both combatants with its branches and restrain them until they stop fighting. Alternatively, if a second attack is made then the attacker will be grappled instead. Its Bane is a fire-axe with the handle of a wood matching the tree (can be oak, birch etc). The PCs can use it to gain a brief reprieve during a fight, enjoying its granted Defence.

Foreign Threat Close to Home is the spectre of the Blitz, 30 years after the fact. It starts as the spectre of a single bomber up in the sky, and will beam a light down into the Hisil, bombing anyone it see's. It cannot target anything it can't see, and is drawn towards light sources. It has to loudly announce its presence with motor sounds, stukka bomber-sounds (even though they don't fit) and whistling bombs. If it's not dealt with (and plot related stuff continues), the xenophobia and fear will only intensify and the Spirit will grow in strength until it's a full squadron of bombers flying from the east. If the PCs can illuminate their enemies and not themselves, the Spirit will absolutely lend them a helping hand.

I need some more recurring Spirits, I'm drawing a bit of a blank. Any thoughts?

The game at a baseline is pretty furry, the specific no werewolf/werewolf breeding thing is hard to really call anti-furry if it's only a punishment for actually making more Garou that way. At the same time I don't think the game itself is explicitly furry, except for certain content like the Gaia tribe book.

I am a cat ears on sides enjoyer for more western "realistic" media, though in general glabro is gonna be a lot fiercer looking than the average catgirl. Though there are some depictions approaching "Glabro" in japanese media.- I think Kouya ni Kemono Doukokusu goes well with the intended aesthetic for WoD half-beast forms, behaviorally too.

>Who was the most righteous/morally good character you ever made for WoD/CofD?
I once played a DA Inquisitor and actually read some of the bible for character.
Whoever unironically put "Sex is Icky" as one of the sins on the piety scale is a retard. The bible DEMANDS that christians breed like rabbits. If you wife isn't waking up a post-orgasmic haze every morning, then you're failing your moral duties to your wife(or wives) and heaven both.
>>

I've never been the ST before but want to run a one-shot for my group of DnD regulars. Here's what I have so far:
>our city but late nineties
>prologue: characters are humans in a cafe/bank/whatever
>some goons rob the place and kidnap people
>after severe beatings in the country side everyone has to dig this big hole
>all are drained and embraced while some weirdo chants a litany
>they get bonked, buried and left
>game starts:
>they claw their way up and are drawn like moths to the flame of a wedding just on the other side of this little lake
>feeding_frenzy.exe
>two vehicles pull up and some paramilitary guys jump out and start shooting
>characters are staked and black-bagged
>in some compound this guy tells them vampires are real and so is hell
>the only way to avoid hell is to kill their sires
>(it's a Ventrue trying to get back at the Sabbath)
>they get weapons and are told the most likely positions of their sires
>the rest is investigating the trap house and fighting
I think I have the "eternal criminal underworld/intelligence community" part down but how do I get the personal horror?

A bit hard to get much personal horror from a one shot. I wouldnt worry too much about incorporating personal horror if its going to be a 1 maybe 2 session game. They have their stakes (not going to hell) already set up so the only thing to really fear is failing to kill their sires. Personally I would focus more on Splatterpunk especially if theyre going up against the sabbat. But if you are keen on having those elements, when they investigate the traphouse they can find people incapacitated and having to decide whether to free them or drain them (usually helps if theyre already kinda low on blood points and a little roughed up).

If your one shot develops into a full chronicle then you can start incorporating personal horror in ways that make your players choose between survival/gaining advantages and maintaining their morals/conscience. Every choice should come with pros and cons (like the example I listed earlier with getting more blood points or further staining their humanity). Not sure how much of this was helpful but I hope you at least got some things to think about.
>>
>>98511819
The entire power system. The Inquisition books are the full-splat version of True Faith and DA Inquisitor is the 20th anniversary update to it.
The 1-5 true faith scale shown in the other splat books is just an aproximation, like how vampire enemies in werewolf books are statted using gifts instead of disciplines.

>Who was the most righteous/morally good character you ever made for WoD/CofD?
In a Requiem game, I played a Daeva who was a former priest and so tried his best to be as a righteous man could be. He was a member of the Ordo Dracul studying the Coil of Blood with 5 Resolve so that he had to feed as little as possible, only drank from blood packs or the occasional sip from his nun confidant.

I remember getting a fun moment in when I got into a grapple with a member of Belial's Brood (this was the session where my one friend had his character run through the streets naked shouting "I'm on PCP bitches!" at the police and fire department), and the ST let me use the Turn a Drawn Weapon maneuver to fire his shotgun at another enemy who was coming out the doorway with an uzi.

Another memorable moment was a line from one of my friends.
>Oh you like fire? Well the Dragon doesn't fear fire, motherfucker!
>Throws Molotov through window.

Picture... semi related? Because fire? I dunno.

The Syndicate is willing to make a generous donation (strictly off the books, terms and conditions apply) if certain so-called "mages" would find themselves being removed from existence.
>>
>>98512518
It wouldn't be too hard to swing, as you said they're a company, so during Japan's massive boom in the 80s it's plausible they could've spread all over the place.

And HtV2e didn't fundamentally change how Endowments worked or anything, it just changed how a lot of the classics functioned. Like Benedictions going from on-demand powers to rituals.

Werewolf has a whole background for it but besides mage/sorcerer reincarnation isn't touched on very often as a player option.
>>

Everyone knows that the Syndicate is cutting deals with reality deviants all the time. Vampires are the most common business partner, SPD deals with everyone. The syndicate in their convention book is actually stated to be far more accepting of reality deviants than the other conventions iirc. The main thing preventing them from making more deals with them is the fact that the union's official policy is Total RD Death so they have to be sneaky about it. There's also a syndicate guy in the pentex board of directors who found that the weaver and pattern spiders are real and is now actively working against pentex iirc

>Luna had life at one point? We gotta repopulate Luna... call the Tremere
I'm not sure how spirits worked in the Old World of Darkness, but in the Chronicles of Darkness, you'd also have to fend off Luna and the other space-based spirits. Also, you know, the nigh-constant sunlight bleaching the surface of the moon.
>>
>>98513142
Iteration X was the most pro-pogrom faction in the union. Combine that with them being the most heavily armed convention and you get people who are sent in when something needs to die, collateral damage be damned.
>Computer
They don't know what it really is or the convention leadership keeps it a secret. I'd bet that Control knows but doesn't want to risk losing an entire convention.
Men in white are the union's version of internal affairs, they carry out Control's orders and maintain ideological purity within the conventions. Unless Control orders them to work with RDs (yeah, like that's ever gonna happen) it's the 5th precept all the way.
>>
>>98513151
Its easy.

>First, use Thaumaturgy to go to the Moon
>Set up permanent residence, supply lines, & for style, an underground Pyramid, all of this is possible with Thaumaturgy
>summon Luna
>get her pregnant
>now, because of the way high level spirits interact with the real world, Luna, the Moon holds life
>you have now Usurped the Moon
>Bonus Round!
>become Lupine with Thaumaturgy
>create the "Blood Moon Tribe" of Tremere Lupines
>force your way into the Garou Nation
>tell them how you are their spiritual stepdaddy
>Lupines never recover from the shame
>>
>>98513175

>>
>>98513264
Feels more like you just invented a particularly theatrical way to kill off Tremere. So by all means, proceed.
>>
>>98513308
nta but if I were ranking on willingness to talk and work with Reality Deviants, it would be like.
The Syndicate > Void Engineers > New World Order > Progenitors > Iteration X.

now this has lots of * in it. Because not all Reality Deviants are the same. Void Engineers hate Vampires with passion but are way more willing to work together with Mages. Progenitors hate Vampires and despise Verbena but would work with Glass Walkers. NWO is in the middle because they are letting the current status quo to be a thing despite Progenitors, Void Engineers and Iteration X wanting to kill all the Vampires. But they don't personally work with Reality Deviants more than they have to.
>>
>>98513264

>>
>>98511145

>>
>>98513308
Come on, the union is more chill now and that's because suddenly plot device. You have to remember that the union exists because all the conventions agreed to the 6 precepts. They only stopped going after reality deviants when shit really hit the fan like WW2. Guess what they did once the situation was resolved.

My players have finally made enough progress across 3 sessions in my Hunter game to post about.
>Matheus lies to his boss about what happened that night, saying Cortes shot at him first and he had to kill him so he got the day off
>Gina got questioned by the police at her hotel and went with the officer to the police station
>Robelle got contacted by a mystery number that requested to meet for a business proposal
>There she met a balding guy named Ricky who said his boss was interested in her and the others she met that day
>With the help of a hefty bribe, Robelle was convinced to join the cell and provide info to him
>Unbeknownst to her, he was a ghoul to a vampire that Cortes worked under
>Meanwhile Oscar gets visited by the irate customer from the day before who says he knows what happened last night at Rachel's
>He introduces himself as Kevin, a defense lawyer and convinces Oscar to come with him in his F-450
>Tells him that he's part of a crew that hunts monsters and tells the story of how he learned of the supernatural
>They stop at the police station and the lawyer keeps Gina from being detained
>Oscar calls Matheus to meet with them while Robelle spies from afar, and they go to a restaurant
>Kevin tells them to meet at an address and gives them a code to use when they get there
>Meanwhile Robelle sneaks in and plants a location to meet the rest of the cell sans Kevin at
>The cell parts ways with Kevin and meets Robelle, who didn't trust Kevin just yet
>with the cell finally gathered together, they headed to the address Kevin had given them
>Drive there in two different vehicles and arrive at a fenced-off and locked area of unfinished real estate
>Use the code Kevin gave them and search the premises, finding an underground bunker hidden in the construction
>Head inside and find Kevin's hunter cell, which includes Ray, a laborer in his late 50's; Thomas, an old ex-IBM engineer with a cane; and Mei, an early 20's woman who teaches tennis
>>
>>98513974
>Thomas tells them that they'd been tracking them since the incident at Rachel's, which was why Kevin found them so fast
>They had been tracking one of the skin-thieves, which had previously been hidden as a prostitute and met with Frenchmen
>When they searched the place after he left, he found a body without skin and the discarded skin of the prostitute
>Now that they're dead, they don't have any leads
>Matheus asks if Cortes' coroner report has been submitted yet
>Kevin provides it, noting that the report says the body doesn't correlate with any of Cortes' known medical record
>Matheus suggests that he could posit to his boss that it might have been a body double he killed and that he needs to go to Cortes' house to investigate further
>He gives Thomas the folder he has on Cortes for him to find which property he owned was the one he actually stayed at
>Ray mentions that they'll need to get some unregistered firearms so that they're more difficult to trace if things go south
>Matheus notes this since he has fences as one of his Contacts, so he agrees to house Gina and go with her to purchase some firearms
>Robelle drops Oscar off at his job, then reports some info to Ricky but leaves out info like the location of the bunker or the names of the hunters
>Oscar finds his car keyed with the symbol of the gang the gangster he beat up the day before was a part of
>When he arrives home, 3 gangsters roll up on him and hold him at gunpoint, telling him to get into their vehicle or die where he stands
>He agrees and they put a bag over his head and put him in the vehicle
That's where the most recent session ended. I'm kind of relieved that they've got a concrete goal, since it'll make my prep work easier.

i am sitting here in a small room with 6 completely different beings. a man, an ape, an angel, a demigod, a dog, and myself. we all long for something more, stuck in our own ways despite appearances. we all lack it also. we sit, waiting, watching, hardly speaking and rather awkward, and when the day breaks we will part ways once more. i am struck by the ephemeral nature of reality and interaction.... i am longing for a world of better regard and somewhat structure. i wish i could love everybody. i wish i could know and be known. i wish i wish i wish that myself in the future shall forgive my terrible transgressions. i have sinned. i create my own suffering over and over. humans are such funny creatures. i wish someone would come save me, someone to love me back to Being, to Life. but i keep seeing myself at the end of the tunnel. how am i supposed to save Myself......?

The real insanity of the whitewolf writers making this is how they don't undetstand how this makes Caines useless as a storyteller tool.
Caine can't really appear for any reason or do anything because he'll either do nothing or completely disrupt the chronicle. He's a walking "Rock Fall". There are no particularly interest interacts with him, because his interacts are undefined, but are simultaniously defined in a way that removes any player agency.

More than that, they did it thinking they "Owned the powergamerss", when people asking about it were mostly storytellers and lore enthuists that wanted answers.

>>
>>98511762
I have run a few one shot VtM scenarios for friend groups from other TTRPG systems, and found the system/setting just are not a good fit for one shots. It would be better to try stretching things out into even just a short chronicle so there is time to let each character find their place in the world after death
also, unless you are crafting all the characters for them, it could be a little odd knowing they are starting as mortals before actually getting access to any of their disciplines. It might be easiest to make them all have the same sire otherwise I don't know how they'd be expected to take down a group of vampires on their own in a one shot
>>
>>98514798
>They left him a blank slate with a thousand rumors & maybes so that you can pick what you want him to be.
Except, no, they didn't. The image in the post I replied to isn't a meme, that's caine's official character sheet. It's literally a game mechanic that if the players meet caine, they insta-lose like a "Rocks Fall, Everyone Dies" scene in an early D&D adventure script.

Except its not. There's another source where a fourth generation vampire has an amulet that 'turns him into a perfect copy of Caine' and it has a completely different statblock. WoD had a lot of writers all with different opinions. That is one chucklefuck's idea of how strong Caine is. Other writers thought otherwise. I have like a dozen citations from old World of Darkness books saying "Incarnae cannot be statted they're too strong" as well as about six statted Incarnae or spirits stated to be as strong as Incarnae. There is no such thing as WoD canon due to the near-zero amount of editorial oversight.

There is Abba-il-Aeon who is 'on the same level as an Incarna', there is the Reaper who is 'practically an Incarna', there is Pakurwu Tooth-Edged who is just outright an Incarna [and ironically the weakest being on this list], the original Celestial gods from Exalted First Edition (the early books still use Werewolf spirit terminology like Celestine and Incarna and define them as such), Baba Yaga who isn't an Incarna but is described as a benchmark for them, and Fenris War Avatar who is just an avatar. There is also the Yama Kings who are described as being able to be beaten in 1v1 combat by Kuei Jin bodhisattva of great age (a known variable). I compiled all this for my ExWoD game in case the Circle decided to continue the long-standing Exalt tradition of god-slaying.

>>
>>98515035
I don't get how you can go from designing hyperniggas that destroy entire city blocks for a supers game to nuking an entire setting down to street level.

I'm sad that aberrant and the rest of the trinity setting is shackled to storypath now too, which replaces willpower with a communal metacurrency that increases when you fail rolls and can be used to schizophrenically alter the story by players and removed the granularity of damage in combat. I've played fabula ultima before with the whole ''add a story element'' thing using fate points and it was just really disjointed so tbdesu I don't see it working out with my group at least

Like, you literally have to go find an Avatar of Gaia for certain Gifts in Garou. Kitsune were created after War of Rage and have their Biyuu or something immortal fox.

Plus we the readers know the Triat are Sentient, have plans and wants. Sure, some writers in some books go all cosmic and "Oh the whole humanity and Garou are just ants of ants, not even worth a mention, like cells in a human body" but...we all know that's bullshit. The whole universe revolves around Earth and the actions of being on it.

>>
>>98515820
Well, yeah. The idea is that once you’ve achieved rank 7 somehow you’re basically on the road to become an incarna yourself. The main difficulty designing this is coming up with gifts that are both powerful and not gimmicky
>>
>>98515832
>Not gimmicky
Rank 10 disciplines are literally "plot device"
Go ham with it, it's WEREWOLF
Turn into living sunlight
Shapeshift your body into cybernetic parts like cybersenses for your whole body
Gain Rage and never go hungry by drinking fossil fuels
Turn any gallon of liquid into crude oil if you want BSD gifts
Become immune to bashing damage by infusing your bones with the strength of mountains
A Silent Strider who doesn't have the Egypt Curse or can turn into a giant divine-like version of himself with the power to smite evil with spirit laser beams
There's already a gift that makes a Garou practically immune to the Blood Bond, how about a series of compounding gifts that give him potential access to elder level disciplines
Improvements on the existing Stargazer compound gifts that give him the power of a Buddha with increasing rank

>>
>>98515783
It bugs the fuck out of me that every splat has kinda arbitrary end points, one of the only good things nWoD did was smooth everything out.

Vampires go to 8-9 with 10 existing as plot devices
Mummies go to 8 & largely match Vampire in power
Changelings go to 5 but scale almost as powerfully as Mages & have all these oddball qualifiers you gotta level up too
Wraith go to a flat 5 but arent nearly as good as most other splats 5
Werewolves go to 6ish but some of their 6th level stuff is as weak as their 4th/5th level stuff
Mages go to 6 & have the most power

I would prefer if they had smoothed it out to where 5 is the max youre most likely to see & play at, 8 is the cap before things start breaking down & is the area of "high level play" with 9-10 can be plot devices.

It feels like good cut off to me at least. Elder Vampires, Ancient Amenti, Half spirit Garou, & Mythical Changelings should all be viable & not a mess.

Generative Algorithms are something that I just imagine Wyrm and Weaver are beating the shit out of each other trying to hold.
Actually that should have been a lot of things. WtA5 should have been 'Weaver is having a meltdown and is rapidly closing in on the vaunted position of PRIMARY TRIATIC ISSUE. It isn't there yet, but not for lack of trying.'
>>
>>98515436
We're talking about a setting bursting at the seams with unreliable narrators, to the point where the beliefs of entire splats get dismissed as incorrect retardation, and you're asking why a spirit-goddess would lie in order to get her servitor species to do her bidding.
>>
>>98515857
>Rank 10 disciplines are literally "plot device"
Except they aren't, because the gehenna book was retconned.
The only canon examples of 10 dot disciplines are the explicitly defined ones in the 2e books. They aren't "Plot Device", they're slightly stronger than 9 dot disciplines.
Antes should still be plot devices for the same reason Ur Shulgi is though, they're so old that they should have an infinite swiss army knife of elder powers and combo disciplines.
>>
>>98515967
>is the area of "high level play" with 9-10 can be plot devices.
There is no "Plot Device" power at any level anon. Only beings so old they have hundreds of powers at every dot level.

Kinda, but it's one at a time per purchase. Combo disciplines are exactly the same way.

>>
>>98516200

That's what I meant. Low level disciplines (1-5) are relatively static, but elder disciplines (6-10) are highly variable, which is why you can buy the same level multiple times to begin with.

Eating too much pineapple is bad for you because of the acid. It hurts your mouth. But fruits are made on purpose to spread seeds, so it can't be as revenge for eating it. It must be instead that pineapples are just so full of spite and evil that even its sweet and attractive fruit brings harm. Therefore, it wants to spread suffering.

The talk about post-masquerade wod and an anon on /qst/ doing a prelude worldbuilding thread for a god game in a modern setting inspired me a bit. Werewolf the Apocalypse, but its not the enshitification of reality and death of the Natural Order that you are fighting against, no no no. It isn't the Wyrm.
10000-8000 years ago, Weaver saw Homo Sapiens Sapiens begin its rise to the top of the food chain and when the Gaians took offense to that, she took Roach and Ape and gave them to Man and though their numbers were few in the beginning, by the 18th Century, Wereroaches and Wereapes became the prominent upper class of Humanity and with the invention of Pentex, are ever present, yet more united than ever before!
It sucks to be a Wolf, because your territory is shrinking monthly and to stop Man, you must step into *his* territory, where Roach and Ape are kings.

What are we going to do with them? I liked the idea of that one anon where they survived the Weaver by Wyld slapping the Weaver before she could actually kill the moths

Repeating sylables would be representative of their closeness to the weaver.

Since other insect shifters should be similar, maybe use that kind of clack-rub vocalization. Example: Sisina(Rub-Rub-Clack).

More like the species survived through physically transforming humans who have been exposed to massive amounts of spiritual energy.
What's crucial is that this is not reincarnation. There are no ancestor spirits. The original weremoths are long gone and not there. This is basically a total rebirth of the self, and as a result these new weremoths have highly fragmented identities.

Shark here. Got a really short game today.
Basically we are going to the black pyramid to find Anubis, and we’re going by train. Our nazi soldiers haven’t found any of the assamites during the day, despite us having found one of their hideouts. So they basically captured every human working at the hideout and instructed us to feed them to a local unaffiliated vampire. A seventh gen Bonsam. Prior we tried interrogating the humans but without success. So Shark appeared big and scary to release the “preys” unto the elder’s playground. Shark failed successfully, because instead of running away into the night, they decided to heroically give chase to Shark after escaping the train. Catalina and Mathilda gave chase to the group. Since the Tzimisce was too slow on her own but only she could see in the dark between the two, the Lasombra had to carry her. By the neck like a sad and pathetic puppy. The humans were then ambushed by the monster and quickly died and the elder gave chase to us instead. She looked like a Predator alien with tits. She speared Catalina for half her health and pin the dynamic duo to the ground. The Lasombra tried to impale her on her own spear but with no success. Shark selflessly lept on her all claws out and did 8 aggravated… but she only rolled two dice, got both successful, and reduced the damage to one. Still it’s the first time in centuries someone has been able to wound her. She was impressed. She wasn’t with Mathilda though. It was during negotiations that she voiced this, and Catalina was insulted that the elder thought nothing of her. So after reassessing that the humans were a gift to her, she tried to look imposing and use her eyes of the abyss on the 7th gen. The creature replied by turning into a mix of horrid form and shadows and disappearing into the night. We just assumed everything went well because we ain’t dead and went back on the train.

The end.

Depends on what comes out of her, how involved the human Arch-Sorcerer is in the before and after and how the semi-divine off-shoot would be raised and its nature.
Would Weaverlings be just Fera, but they are accelerationist trans-humanists instead of pagan primitive berserkers? Are they just Gnosis-rich Humans with turbo OCD and instinct-driven micro-managing? Large, intelligent, talking spiders with hands?
Weaver could be a better Divine Parent than Gaia, as her nature compels her to be very involved and dedicated to what she creates and her own children, sired by her adopted children, would rank very high in her list of priorities. She could also be helicopter-parent that mind controls her children to act exactly as she wants.
Regardless, depending on when it happens, it might stop Weaver from imprisoning Wyrm, because Humanity and the Weaverlings will promise to outgrow the concept of destruction and entropy.

Oh this is my special fixation, I actually used a moth as a main 'villain' in an Ananasi chronicle (the team in a prior chronicle had engaged in time fuckery, so the reality abberation rippled enough to bring a moth back from non-reality, and it very much did not want to return to non-reality).

I've always liked the idea of moths being almost ascetic and devoutly religious, as a kind of weird inversion of the Ananasi speaking to a Goddess but being largely very worldly and free of ritual; the Moths venerate in the extreme a God who never speaks back or even acknowledges them but whom also very definitely exists. But like, that's just ideas.

Moths in a lot of pop-culture seem to be connected to apotheosis, like in the original Anon's post about Cultist Sim. That feels like something appropriate and not-used for much else; the Moths want to find some way to become pure spirit again, unbound by physical reality, under the belief that they can attain some kind of purity to allow them to take their place among the heavens. Something something 'moths are chasing a flame believing its the sun' because the Umbra is so abjectly hostile to them because everything in it sees them as something that not only shouldn't exist but shouldn't ever have existed.

Mechanically, they should be a bit more socially inclined, similar to how the Ananasi are compared to a lot of other fera. Plus moths irl are suuuuper cute, so we gotta keep that in there somehow.

>"I am a God, yet I can only make, I cannot stop Entropy"

And Weaver was smitten.

From my experience with v5, its very streamlined. Unique disciplines getting folded into other disciplines and becoming "amalgam" disciplines. The sabbat was reduced to roving bands of marauders and rendered unplayable. Most elders and methuselas just disappearing. Bloodlines got reduced to loresheets and some of their disciplines also folded into other disciplines or just got left on the cutting room floor. I dont hate v5. I think its serviceable but I would rather just play an older edition.

>don't like some metaplot/lorewise change
it's on the storyteller and all the players to make it known what they want out of the game, and the corebook has countless reminders saying to modify/ignore proposed elements that do not mesh with your (eg. don't include sci-fi xscopes and other vampire radar shit if your characters go through airports/security checkpoints often)

Also if your whole table would typically all reach elder status during your vampire chronicles, that just speaks loudly to your table's preferences for power fantasy/"winning" endings. That's less a fault of any game system if you have the singular, specific goal of becoming gods among men. Almost every table I've played at either doesn't reach a level cap or otherwise locks off the highest levels until near the very end of a campaign
>>
>>98518348
>its very streamlined
I can understand this as a reason to not like V5; streamlining it definitely means losing out on the crunch of more mechanics and niche powers I'm sure some people adore. As someone not involved in WoD since the 90s, I have a no nostalgia for the older powers crammed into other disciplines, I just think they're neat inclusions. I had friends into WoD longer than me really hate how oblivion is handled in V5, and having played as a hecata now I do see splitting that discipline in half as a lame way to incorporate the missing signature powers

>Unique disciplines getting folded into other disciplines
I dove through the W20 book out of curiosity, so definitely take with a grain of salt, but it really felt bad how the huge number of available powers (~12 disciplines in V5 vs 16 arcanoi, or like 25 counting dark arcanoi) lead to a lot of overlap, or extremely niche use-cases. I feel those could easily do with some streamlining, and I'm the same reading on many older V20 disciplines. I don't see what having a vicissitude discipline offers over including the same effects clumped into an amalgam (though I am NEVER a fan of sliding scale do-the-same-thing-but-a-little-better-for-each-level systems in any game, with dominate in V5 tip-toeing that line for me)

>The sabbat was reduced to roving bands of marauders and rendered unplayable
This is definitely true, but it's really on the storyteller to implement them in more than a mindless-monster way. From my newer perspective, the Sabbat as a faction want the deaths of the elders so as to steal the power of their blood and unleash their monstrous sides to ravage the world.Like, if a DnD table wanted to start a doomsday cult and murder everyone; if the table's down for it that's fine, but the system was obviously not created with that in mind, so I wouldn't say it's a fault

I'll get to the other points too, I really appreciate you sharing your opinion on this for me

>Most elders and methuselas just disappearing
the beckoning is such a cool plot device I genuinely don't understand how anyone can be against it. Keeping powerful ancient vampires around makes the afterlife stagnant while under their control. Having a tool to pick and choose which elders to remove and when gives the best of both worlds; if you want elders running things still then they haven't felt the beckoning yet, otherwise there is space for others to take charge

>Bloodlines got reduced to loresheets and some of their disciplines also folded into other disciplines or just got left on the cutting room floor
I think it's odd to say they were reduced becoming loresheets since those were introduced in V5 and add a lot of flavor to include characters in the world mechanically. As to disciplines getting crammed in, I mentioned before some of them I feel are very justified and others were very poorly carried over into V5. I don't think we really need egyptian-snake themed powers when dominion over animals and shapechange already exist elsewhere. Even the more niche stuff like making minions or poisons can be found under thaumaturgy back in V20 (though tremere wizard shit is its own whack ass bag of random bullshit, which is sick)

>I would rather just play an older edition
Thanks for helping detail out some of the specific differences with the older versions that I might be missing out on; I'm definitely more interested now in giving them a shot at some point in the future, though still just cautiously interested
>>
>>98518714
>the beckoning is such a cool plot device, because they make the setting stagnant
This was the original justification. Problem: the Second Inquisition exists.

If the goal of the beckoning is to remove the elders to level the playing field, then surely it's to enable your coterie to climb the ranks or at least make everyone start chopping heads and throwing their weight around scrambling to fill the power vacuum, no?

But then the SI comes along and it is THE most effective threat against Vampires to a degree that gets a little but absurd, RAW and RAI. Like, 'use the phone wrong and you'll be daylight raided and turned into a smear' type effective. "They have concentration camps of vampires in the middle of major cities" type effective.

So you swapped out one hyper-vigilant 'they could be everywhere' beatstick of stagnancy in the Elders and their ivory tower out... only to sub another 'they could be everywhere' beatstick of stagnancy in the hunters and their SI in, except it's way less believable and features way less elaborate chess games.
Nothing changed, you just swapped out what century the boots were made in.

- Achili wrote it, in case you don't know who that is, he's a well known writer in WoD circles for being a self-absorbed jack-ass that can't handle ppl having wrong-bad fun with "his" game and the only correct way to play in his eyes is to circle jerk about how sad you are until a hunter kicks down your door and kills you. this issue is primarily lore but also bleeds into the mechanics. (see touchstones, especially in comparison to how they worked in requiem)
- V5 does not understand the clans, it either pigeon holes them further into their stereotype (brujah) or completely abandons what made the clan interesting in the first place (tremere).
-while legacy has many issue worth addressing V5 is mainly concerned with addressing issues that were already solved or never existed in the first place.
-V5 is obviously rushed in some aspects to release close to bloodlines 2 before that got stuck in development hell.

I guess some people just don't have the creative gumption to think up antagonist capabilities and limits for themselves. If every SAD agent or church goer the storyteller throws at you is an inquisitor delta statblock sent by an omniscient digital network, they are failing at their role in making an engaging story. If in session 1 a player calls another on the phone and mentions feeding, then winds up staked in a black van the following morning, that is either a wake up call to every player that the SI is going to be a very serious threat in the chronicle OR the storyteller not making it clear what is even possible/at-risk at their table. The prince sending emails telling you to go grab a bag of werewolf blood from the hospital really SHOULDN'T fly in modern times

The SI are able to use technology beyond most elder boomers comprehension, but also operate on the outskirts of legitimacy always in secret because their backers wouldn't want the IRS to come investigating why the local government is ordering dragon's breath 12 gauge shells in bulk

the difficulty of methuselahs in control isn't that they are nigh unbeatable, but that vampire society exists to support their reign. Fighting them hurts your own place in a city, which incentivizes everyone to stay in their lane. Just about every vampire in a city will be working against the SI, giving players a much greater reason to have contacts/support from all walks of life since it poses an existential threat to them all. Some will surely toss others under the SI party bus, but that's because vampires at their core are bastards

again, if your table is unable to think up any way to deal with the SI from knocking down their haven's door during the day, that is either a failing on the storyteller to make a fair antagonist, a failing on the players for exercising needed caution or combatting the threat creatively, or both (assuming they even have the resources to be operating at such capacity in your city)

Oh loresheets is one of the things I actually really enjoyed about v5. But when I say they were reduced to loresheets, they mostly just feel like (Base Clan)+ rather than an actual bloodline with unique abilities and weaknesses.

Like for example, if I make a lamia hecata, I am still beholden to the hecata bane of the harmful kiss (or everything rotting around me). I know with how v5 does clan banes it would be difficult to incorporate various banes from the bloodlines into the system but with lamia you could get away with changing their bite to a disease that becomes more deadly as you gain blood potency. Just add it in as the first or second dot in the loresheet. It would be better than the reference from the 1 dot merit on pic rel.

I forgot to add this in my original critique. One massive criticism of v5 that no one can justify: the serious lack of an editor. So many times I found typos or things just not properly edited. Going back to pic rel: literally just stops mid sentence on the 5 dot merit. The transman ventrue with the tzimisce clan symbol is my personal favorite example.

>if you want elders running things still then they haven't felt the beckoning yet, otherwise there is space for others to take charge
If you don't want elders breathing down the players' necks, you can always set the story in an area that isn't settled territory, or introduce political tension that keeps the elders focused on their rivals.

>on the outskirts of legitimacy
Anon a fair number of SI agencies are literally official branches of the government. The IRS isn't just not investigating them, they're actively budgeting for the 'counter-terrorism' operations that they do.
And tech? Tech is the least of the SI's powers.

Half this post boils down to "well introduce the limitations/alterations yourself" and, yeah, you COULD do that, but then... what are we doing here? If someone says "I have a problem with the way V5 presents technology" and you proceed to set the game in 1991 so the technology is different, sure, that's a storyteller choice you can make, but then why are we discussing the book at all?
The SI is designed to be an overbearing, unbeatable threat that makes the Cammies enforce an absolute and total tech ban. One that isn't really a contribution of 'realism' considering all the shit that happens over the internet in real life, right now, without someone knocking on your door. Your local ST can tone that down, and a wily table of players can bluff and bullshit their way around it, but neither of those are the intended experience; and discussing a TTRPG is always about discussing the intended experience, not the experience at one's table, since that's always going to be catered to taste.
>>
Ok so how would a glass walker lupus be? First of all did some snobby rich homid decided a wolf was fine to and would this lupus be reay attracted to human society and stuff?
>>
>>98519063
Even Red Talons are attracted to human society, and they're super racist. All Garou secretly long for homoerotic petplay.
>>
>>98518922
ok yeah, that makes much more sense to me. Reduced as in they are a less distinct thing (ie. no longer a separate clan) being now an add-on to another existing mechanic. I'm sure if I did have more nostalgia for older content I would feel differently, but as is I feel having further expansions on character clans in loresheets is cool, especially as other clans get their own heritages to reach back to as well

>One massive criticism of v5 that no one can justify: the serious lack of an editor
also yes, I whole heartedly agree with this. The V5 books are highly disorganized and put together with very little rhyme or reason and chock full of technical errors. Not the system's fault per se, but definitely signs of other rot behind the pages, like what >>98518823 brings up, issues with a writer behind it

speaking of >>98518823
>V5 is obviously rushed in some aspects
same as above; the team behind it could and should have done better on a technical end and it's clear they let business decisions get in the way of actual game development

>V5 does not understand the clans
you just have an incoherent vision for what the clans should look like
>pigeon holes them further into their stereotype (brujah)
V5 still props them up as a clan seeking change for the sake of change and as idealistic as they are passionate. If anything, the removal of archetypes as a mechanic further guides people away from shoehorning tropes into characters
>completely abandons what made the clan interesting in the first place (tremere)
blood magic is what makes blood wizards interesting and unique, no socially enforced blood bonding, a very common practice found in all vampire society (just enforced more within their clan). One of these screams "blood tainted mages" more than the other

>V5 is mainly concerned with addressing issues that were already solved or never existed
this also just reads like
>it's new/different, therefore it's bad

Having the events of Orpheus take place is also an option. Pigment managed to fly under the radar for a long time because its supernatural nature wasn't immediately obvious. Anyone who ever tries it is guaranteed to become a wraith at death. Spectres created and used it to engineer an apocalypse. Things went to shit seemingly overnight because nobody but the Giovanni give a shit what ghosts are up to.
>>
>>98519079
Funny, because your post reads like
>it's new, therefore it's good
>>
>>98519090
Orpheus ends with the Shroud being shorn away and the underworld merging with the physical world, IIRC. It's an incredible point to do away with the Masquerade, but it's also apocalyptic, and whatever happens after that won't resemble the world before it anyway.
>>
>>98519063
Nah, glass walkers have the lowest amount of lupus. Obviously because they're city wolves and actual wolves don't fit in well with it, but I like to headcanon that GWs are the tribe who dislikes homid/wolf kin pairing the most of all. So most lupus are the 1/100 cubs from kinfolk packs in zoos or private parks, plus the occasional technophile lupus from other tribes

They do know how to make good use of the dozen or so lupus in the tribe, though

not all human organizations know about and would approve of clandestine supernatural hunting activities, otherwise the titular masquerade would never have been a thing. Again, if your storyteller decides ALL government agencies in ALL parts of the world the game is taking place are COMPLETELY under control of a hidden world government hell bent on your extermination with access to ALL potential tools at ALL times, they are stretching the concept of the SI as an antagonist far beyond breaking and ruining the game for themselves and their players. There are just as many, if not more, game breaking possibilities that can be scrounged up if you try to implement every last detail mentioned in oWoD games too

>The SI is designed to be an overbearing, unbeatable threat
this is just not true. A pyrotechnic statblock can be functionally identical to a regular soldier/agent with a flamethrower, barring the fact it's got a magical flare. They also have 2nd generation xscopes that can instantly detect vampires from mortals at a range with no way to avoid them; it's on the storyteller to not be a dick and make every other session a "rocks fall" catastrophe. DnD would be impossible for the players too if their dm decides to throw a random tarrasque at them every campaign

from my reading in V5, the SI is anything but an unstoppable force, so using "intended experience" is an admission you don't want to even try working them into an actual game

You could have a chronicle about getting the US president under vampire control to abolish SI organizations by executive order, or have that simply be something already in place to put restrictions on the SI so you can tell an entirely different story without worrying about them siccing the firebender death squads on you because of a toothy grin in a selfie

V5 giving more options for possible mortal resistance against vampire tyranny is not a bad thing
>>
>>98519161
>from my reading
That's actually a great point, what books HAVE you read? The one book with all the Hecata loresheets actually made me like the clan a lot more, while there are books like that one about being vampire rockstars made to cash in on the Anne Rice TV show that I think left public consciousness before they were even published.

And, more importantly, what tables have you played at? I know people who's entire experience of VtM is very, very different from my own.

Bloodlines did far more damage to this franchise than it ever did to help it.
It locked Hunters into being the insane judgement anachronisms in trench coats, it gave people false mechanical assumptions that they're still somehow making today, it locked a few of its less-well-portrayed clans into being what they are in popular perception forever, it made people's idea of vampire power scaling very wonky, and it will never not be the single most influential piece of media made for this franchise.

Bloodlines is wonderful, but the version of the World of Darkness it portrays goes right off the rails halfway through the game and has forever chained both expectation and desire to a version of the world that no longer exists and yet will never be returned to.

to give you a better idea of what my experience with V5 has been so far (in no particular order, hoping I don't forget anything):
V5 corebook
V5 player's guide
some of the Anarch book
very little of the Black Hand book
some of the Second Inquisition book
very little of Book of Nod
very little of the Chicago by Night book
most of Live from the Succubus Club
Children of the Blood
most of Laws of the Night (don't ask)
most of In Memoriam
some of Blood Sigils
some of Gehenna War
recently picked up Crimson Gutter

player in 5 chronicles over 3 table groups
storytold in 4 games, over 3 (different) table groups
other friends tried getting me to watch LA by Night, and it really was not for me

I mean, unless the later parts of the SI book say the masquerade is a joke, vampires get dunked on always, and get wrecked for good measure, bozos, I don't feel like the SI is deserving of the wrap I've seen them given in this and previous threads. The last chronicle I completed had the SI as the big bad threat and yeah we had a raid on us in the day, yeah characters got kidnapped and tortured during interrogation, yeah there was true faith bullshittery shutting a lot of vampire powers down, but the storyteller did a good job not making them completely unfun nor unfair to play against because at the end of the day it's a game, not a CBT sim

Massive, catastrophic, worldwide developments. The Shroud became the Stormwall, and now that the Shroud collapsed, that Stormwall falls down on the normal Earth beneath it. On top of that, the geography of the afterlife smashes into Earth and forces its way out of the ground, causing earthquakes and tsunamis and all manner of natural disasters. On top of that, the angry and terrified dead sweep through trying to get ahead of the sky falling down, all of them capable of manifesting physically (because this world is their world now) and seeking their own petty vengeance, wrothful and cruel and greedy.. The Maelstrom lingers in the underworld, and will be dragged by the Stormwall to cause phenomenon hitherto unknown. But the world will survive, and humans will survive on it, albeit by taking shelter beneath whatever supernatural power can contest the horrors of the afterlife reborn.

the brujah's clan compulsion pigeon hole them as anti-authoritarians which was previously not a requirement of the brujah. the nosferatu's cryptophilia being another example

the tremere on the other hand suffer from both blood magic being gutted and becoming shared with the assemites which demotes them from the mage clan to one of the mage clans. additionally their bane played more so into the classic vampire trope of great power at the cost of "slavery".
the issue isn't just that those aspect of the clan was removed but that it got replaced with nothing. there's literally no reason to play the tremere in V5 except for what they were in previous editions, they're just an empty husk of the thing ppl actually liked.
as an aside a couple of clans double down on a regular aspect of vampiric existence to put more of a spotlight on said weakness for said clan, such as the brujah's rage and the settites light weakness. dismissing it because it is an aspect of regular vampirism brought into focus rather then being entirely unique to the clan is just pointless puritanism.

i'm not against change, i'm against bad changes. and V5's changes are usually bad because it doesn't try to fix a problem or tries to remove the problem, they remove the thing that has the problem. if it was a doctor it would try to cure athlete's foot with a leg amputation.

Megucaman again, not a ton to talk about, but a couple things happening to Aiko and Hana.

Aiko's still without the light, but she's gonna be going down a custom path I'm working on for PtH stuff. Basically a dark meguca sort of deal where you have to maintain a balance between light and dark or you either dethrone or outright fall. It's a more powerful than Princesses and Darkened with Inhuman Form, at the cost of being constricted by that balance unless you want to become a deranged monster or a mundane human with immense depression and apathy.

Hana, on the other hand, ran off with Sanae to jailbreak that Jidai mage from a Technocracy front. Sanae got the mage out, but left Hana after she blacked out.

Hana's been in captivity for several days is unlikely to get rescued anytime soon due to the heightened security. A scientist managed to get her as a test subject, meaning they've put her in better conditions than the concrete box she was in initially. She's locked up with a mute girl named Arisa and a girl with an experimental cybernetic implant that functions as a celerity emulator (it's useful, but has a pretty heavy downside).

So yeah, Hana is in a cage with some other girls and receiving therapy finally. Meanwhile Aiko is edging between light and dark through sheer spite and will.

clan compulsions certainly have room for improvement, but they only lean into characteristics of the clan established in older editions:
The brujah have been tied to rebellion and violence for a long time
The gangrel are always tied to animals
Toreador have lacked self control always
The nosferatu made SchreckNet
etc
They are not forcing anything new onto these clans. I can see holding your nose at the thought of a character acting out due to a compulsion, but you can also just not roleplay that compulsion out, it's not a restriction in play. The book actively encourages using other creative ways than forcing clan compulsions on any bestial failure to avoid the very problem you're saying is unavoidable in V5

though you probably shouldn't bring up pigeonholing characters into set roles if your main complaint about clan tremere is they are no longer the sole users of blood sorcery. As for sharing the discipline, blood sorcery powers/rituals are still flavored with either tremere or banu-haqim/assamite leanings the same way oblivion fits both necromancy and obtenebration (though unlike oblivion, which suffers badly not having enough space for both clans, there is a plethora of blood sorcery rituals available to readily differentiate a tremere thaumaturge from a banu-haqim assassin. Both clans have always been able to kill people remotely with their own blood, the key differences are in the flavors of delivery)

>there's literally no reason to play the tremere in V5 except for what they were in previous editions
what they always were in previous editions are a secretive cabal of blood mages working in the shadows to advance their own clan's projects above all else. If being a creepy blood wizard cultist isn't what you want out of tremere, you should play a different clan

>i'm not against change, i'm against bad changes

That’s a shame. Though what’s that about telepathy 5? Is that a discipline?

I don’t know much about mages, but can they use spheres above their arete? Or could a magic item allow them to cast spells above their arete? Not because the spell can cast mind 4 while you’re arete 2, but because it grants access to two level above. A bit like what anon posted, about the methuselah that has a magic amulet that grants higher chimerstry, and he could become Caine.

How is that not "just" a Hunter Conspiracy or a tier 4 supplement to the game?
Memes aside, most popular horror stories in recent memory don't have enough of a gimmick to work as their own splat. The Backrooms/Infinite IKEA & creepy pastas work for short scenarios, but good luck making them into something worth a long-term game.

To be fair, a lot of analogue horror stories would slap as "mirror worlds" and if you give people a place like the Hedge to navigate the multiverse, people might actually chain them together. Think of whatever the fuck is going on with the Monument Mythos, and that should be the right ballpark.

My argument against that is that the less people that play a game, the more that game is discussed through using a big picture perspective. As far more people actually play Vampire the Masquerade, they are far more open to understanding what Vampire the Masquerade can play like on a personal level, how it explores what it's like to wrestle with the monster within while clinging to what's left of one's humanity. As a lot of people don't actually have that experience with Werewolf the Apocalypse, they find it a lot easier to just view Werewolf through the big picture lens, which all about fighting Pentex and saving Gaia and going on spirit journeys. It's much harder for anyone to picture what a werewolf's day-to-day is actually like, due to this lack of experience.
Viewed through the same lens, Vampire the Masquerade stops being about the Beast and Humanity and is all about the millennia-long games of chess that the methuselahs and Antediluvians are playing against each other, using every vampire younger than a millennium as their pawns. Vampire the Masquerade also gets a little silly when everything is boiled down to these shadowy conspiracies warring against each other. But if it helps, "when will you rage" is better off viewed as "when is rage worth it." Your werewolf is going to have people in their life that they care who are never going to be truly safe around them, and those people are going to be just as in danger around other werewolves. Are they just going to alienate themselves from society and their Kinfolk and if so, won't that lead to them losing their grounding and becoming detached from the world that they're actually saving? It becomes harder to tell the difference between the innocent workforce and the monsters who rule over them if your werewolf refuses to spend time around people and recognise their personhood, but they also risk the lives of people that they spend time around due to the supernatural rage inside of them.

It's a "psychic phenomenon". Here's how its described in Sorcerer (revised).
Note that the requirement to sense the target means that you could use Astral Projection, Clairvoyance, or any other sensory ability.
Also remember that the typical person will have Willpower at like 4 tops, and only other psychics will (maybe) have Mind Shields, so the difficulty won't even be very high in most cases.

>locked Hunters into being the insane judgement anachronisms in trench coats
It's a Vampire game. Each splat has a rudimentary understanding of other splats, which are typically at best plausible as members of other splats, but not truly representative; Bloodlines does this great with hunters, with werewolves, with ghosts. Not sure about Kuei-Jin because nobody gives a shit about them.

>it gave people fasle mechanical assumptions
First, you need to be actually specific about this, but why not play along.
Oh, how dreadful! A lovely product created a very specific, powerful and long-lived impression of the tabletop game. So, clearly, the only choice is to go out of your way to design something utterly different and incongruent with Bloodlines. Heaven fucking forbid you have a good entrypoint to the tabletop.

>it locked a few of its less-well-portrayed clans into being what they are in popular perception forever
You're sure Bloodlines made Nossies Nossies, Ventrue Ventrue, Toreadors Toreadors, Brujah Brujah? And didn't just fairly well recreate the stereotypes they're built on?

>it made people's idea of vampire power scaling very wonky

V5 fans are absolutely losing their minds over V5 being taken out behind the shed and shot in the head, which has led to Paradox's strategy of turning the official Discord into a hugbox for V5 fans backfiring horribly, since it's now full of extremely angry fanboys demanding that Paradox burns V6 at the stake and replaces it with an everlasting V5.

Everywhere else has said what there is to be said about V6 and moved on. It's shit, it needs huge amounts of fixing if it's to be any good, and some concepts need to be scrapped entirely. There's nothing else to say other than that, but all we can do is hope that Paradox doesn't listen to their Discord hugbox and kill it in favour of a million years of V5.
>>
>>98521229
Yeah that about checks out.
>all we can do is hope that Paradox doesn't listen to their Discord hugbox and kill it in favour of a million years of V5.
My personal, entirely unsubstantiated schizo theory is that Bloodlines 2 flopping hard essentially killed V5. Paradox bet a lot of money on the game working, parasited off of Bloodlines 1's image as much as they could, and it didn't work, the game just wasn't up to par whatsoever; it tarnished WoD's already shaky reputation and I'd guess did a number on sales as well. With V5 being divisive at best and fairly old already, by other tabletop game standards, it was ripe time to take it out behind the shed anyways, with B2 being its chance to actually get a larger cult following and a boost in sales to justify its existence.

The biggest evidence in favor is how half-baked V6 is; it fits as the result of at best half a year of work. B2 comes out in October 2025, a month or two pass with atrocious sales and overall doom and gloom, shortly before holidays Paradox axes V5 internally and tells the poor, unfortunate souls chained in the WoD basement to make a new game, and all they manage to do since then due to small team size and corporate heckling is what we've got.
>>
>>98521248
It'd be nice if that was the case because it means it's the fault of the suits.
It's not. It's raw developer incompetence at the most foundational level. They made something they wanted and what they wanted was abysmal dogshit.
>>
>>98521229
>>98521248
What I still don't get is, why they intentionally alienated old fans?
Unless like a month before V6 announcement, older editions had no representation in the official discord and you were likely to get banned even for comparing 5th Edition books to the past.

Bloodlines is basically the peak of old school WoD. From fishmalks to Weresharks to Kuei-jin to Sabbat to Wraith to African Tzimisce to True Faith SoL Hunter to Werewolves. It is a great middle ground between campy but serious.

Bloodlines 2 is not that. V5 is even worse than BL2 at that. W5 is a "re-imagination". H5 just uses the name of HTR
>>
To be entirely fair, trenchcoats were common and popular men's fashion since the early 1900s. With the very practical bonus of being able to facilitate the concealed carrying of weapons, which is why they were a staple of crime thrillers and common faire for Hunters and Vampires alike.

Then those cringelords at Columbine had to ruin them for everyone.
>>
>>98521276
>why they intentionally alienated old fans?
If I had to try to get in the mindset:
>old fans are not very happy customers
>old fans are demanding, want old, unacceptable commercially (Totentanz for instance) lore
>old fans tend to want a more complex and hard to get into experience
>old fans (all fans in reality but for the mindset we're assuming bias) are averse to change so they're not likely to get into V5 anyways
>if let in they'll constantly poison the well and whine about how bad it is (which does actually happen, even if I thoroughly agree with the complaining, at a point it has to be annoying)
>old fans constantly get into slapfights with new fans
>old fans are liable to be too toxic and scare off the intended new fanbase
A sample would be that one Shark guy who has a fun chronicle going on, or the Toreador soap drama person in the SCHRECKNet thread. I like both of them and what they write, but if I was a corporate manager, I would prefer them to be turned to fucking vapor, because the former is leaning into the toddler-eating part of old WoD while the latter is leaning into the BDSM fetishist part of old WoD. Both

Some of the management types may also just be very jaded after years of (deserved) mockery. Which is, of course, pathetic; if you are mismanaging a product people like, they will tell you. You accept the costs of running a product when you start running a product.

>>98521272
Well, a lot of V6's changes relative to V5 seem to be a panicked reaction that tries to buff out V5's issues by appealing to V20 stuff. Low generation play is basically anathema? Here's your elders! Street-level-only nonsense is annoying as a focus? Fuck it, sure, have higher grade stuff! You don't like the idea of Sabbat being NPCs? Sure, play them! Please please don't hate us please buy our game.
There's a lot of incompetence, of course, like the Diablerie rules being written so poorly that you can become God if you eat like four people.
>>
>>98521248
That makes sense to me, though it's not like BL2 failed just due to the aspects of V5 used in it. That entire game is a mess in so many different ways.
>>98521276
By creating an echo chamber of positive feedback for the product, they would be able to maintain a strong core audience of whales dedicated to the product and any potentially new fan who enters the echo chamber is bombarded with positivity, pushing them to feel positive as well, with any negativity being dissuaded with shunning.
The downside of this is now rearing its ugly head, as the community which they have conditioned to love V5 unconditionally as the one true version of VtM, now has to contend with V5 getting put down like a lame horse and replaced with something else, shrieking and pissing themselves over how their hunger dice are now worthless and demanding refunds.
>>
>>98520888
>Unknown supernatural
>Knows secret vampire words
>Says you can't feed there (half the reason to go to fucking Elysium)

>>
>>98521326
>though it's not like BL2 failed just due to the aspects of V5 used in it. That entire game is a mess in so many different ways.
Oh, definitely. But I think if you view it in the lens of that it was the highest-budget, highest-name V5 line of products thing, parasiting off of Bloodlines for success and being pushed out the door despite high costs and despite major rewrites, even to the degree of offering a gameplay experience impossible to replicate in V5, and a narrative simply not matching it (unlike the initial you're-a-thinblood-shovelhead thing), it makes a certain degree of sense to view its failure as a V5 failure.

So, it was a huge investment into the V5 line, it failed horribly, somebody at Paradox (a company known for cutting off bad products and leaving people to hold the bag, as with their strategy games) hits the alarm button and they just fnally kill off the obviously failing line of products. V5 was doing okay, iirc, H5 was hated, W5 was at best tolerated, it's all not really good, and if Literally Bloodlines can't revive it, what can? Might as well try again, with a distinctly different pitch, down to the art direction.

Hence V6's fixation on that art must be black and white and look like old books.
>>
>>98520738
>I'm sort of shocked nobody tried again and made a 2e.
The overwhelming majority of zombies, especially in their popular mass media depiction, really don't work as TTRPG player characters.

Also nWoD's Antagonists book of all things has a really good flexible NPC template for zombies.

As long as we don't have larpers, I take AI over them
>>
>>98521342
>Might as well try again, with a distinctly different pitch, down to the art direction.
For me, my favorite cope from the V5 bootlickers is that V6 is fundamentally racist and problematic, due to bringing back the Giovanni and due to giving the Ravnos the new Tellurgy discipline, because Ravnos are gypsy-inspired and Tellurgy involves cursing people, therefore Paradox is saying that gypsies curse people.
>>
>>98521375
>V6 is fundamentally racist and problematic
So it's actually coming back to V20 roots! I've been too harsh on it.

And God that sounds absurdly pathetic, for people defending the 5th edition. The same edition which managed to have a whole game serving as idealization of nature fighting, tribalism and spiritualism, be 'reimagined' as an experience utterly bare of any sort of tribal identity, with tribal cultures demolished in favor of vague vibes.

>>98521359
I get some of the larp value (even if the customer base that'd be actually interested in LARP is extinct) but making it all look like an exceptionally low-budget CW show is just offensively boring and uninspired. The whole of 2D and 3D art and costumes, and best they can do is BDSM grandma.

>>98521399
While the alpha is full of silly rules slip-ups that allow vampires to infinitely lower their generation or literally never frenzy or generate infinite WP, there's also a lot of fundamentally dumb ideas that just don't mesh with VtM at all.
>Here's your participation trophy points for rolling lots of dice, you can spend it to roll even more dice! Being a vampire is about winning all of the time!
>Being too human is just as bad as being too bestial, you've got to be careful and find a balance! Good boy vampires shouldn't be playable!
>You want to be good at Presence? Better play a Toreador. You want to be good at Animalism? Better play a Gangrel. Fuck you if you want to play a vampire that doesn't specialize in their clan's specialization Discipline.
>>
>>98521399
See, that's fine. It's a retarded mistake, embarrassing to make, but not really end of the world. It just indicates a lack of basic proofreaing and that they were thowing rules together in a crunch.

What is a more structural issue is that they with the same casual air of 'yeah whatever diablerie rules are basic, oh well' also utterly break things as basic as what age and generation mean. For some unclear reason now being an Elder means you are also of low generation, even though this is explicitly wrong, and they even admit that it is explicitly wrong, but while they propose that the GM could consult a good boy points system to generate a bit of rain, their idea for how to handle a 6th-generation fledgling character is 'idk man lmao ask your storyteller, this system isn't for that'.

It's poorly done.
>>
>>98521276
>What I still don't get is, why they intentionally alienated old fans?
My guess is that they want an audience that will buy their new books covering shit the old books already did.
So instead of having to write a Supernatural Atlas of the Philippines or some shit like that they can just recycle Chicago for the fuckteenth time.

When you say late are you talking Nobunaga's entering Kyoto late, or fall of the Ashikaga late? Or even Sekigahara late? Because different historians have different end and even start dates for the Sengoku Jidai.

In any case, not too intimidating. There's a lot of historical material and documentation to work with, and due to Japan's popularity in the west, a lot of it has been translated into English. So it's workable, though I prefer to save individual flashpoints and the nitty gritty stuff for if I'm actually running a game around that time. That way I can tailor it to the game I'm planning on running at the time.
