>>98511783nobody asked, but man was actually a gender neutral term in old englisha male human would be a wer and a female human would be a wif, with contemporary english having traces of this in words like "werewolf" and "wife" (both wer and wif were used to refer to a spouse, although wer has since been supplanted by "husband"); as far as I understand this practice only really stopped through norman french influence, which being a romance language doesn't have a neutral grammatical gendergoing on a tangent but just reverting to this old way of doing it would have been far simpler than the whole push to rename every -man noun into something bigger and more awkward for the sake of being gender neutral

>>98511972>reverting to this old way of doing it would have been far simpler than the whole push to rename every -man noun into something bigger and more awkward for the sake of being gender neutralThis would have to acknowledge that Europeans can have different peoples and cultures (in this case Germanic) rather than all being "Christian colonizers." I would find it funny to have lycanthropes (I know that's just Greek wolf-man) or D&D antherions (man-beast) get gendered terms like jackalwif or wiftiger on top of the usual werewolf/wolfwere.
