They should juice him up and make him really really really lethal against ethereal and magic users. I know he gets bonuses but he should be a rapist of those units. Still wouldn't be meta but would give him a solid niche that's lore friendly.

How does this sound as a Battle March list? 750 points of Orc goodness. Not sure if it will be strong, but I love my Boys and want to use them. Sadly my BSB lacks a cool magic standard, but points are tight.

Orc & Goblin Tribes [749 pts]

Any really, but if you pick up 7e and various expansion pdfs for 6th and 7th then you'll skirmish (simpler Mordheim for wfb armies), warbands (up to 500 points a bit like battle march with special rules and limits), and general compendium.

I think ideally you want some skirmish mini game and not an edition. If you want an edition TOW is probably best because it has giving ground instead of a straight break or hold for combat. Older editions without skirmish subrules might be too swingy for enjoyable games because of that.

Unironically TOW Battle March, the generals companion has a bunch of scenarios and your village attack scenario is one of them, with a historical battle example that involves greenskins attacking vs empire defending. It provides rules, victory points, win conditions, etc, so you're pretty much set.

>Not sure how it would affect morale.
no need of reaching 25% casualties to trigger a panic test?
dunno if it ends up being too strong, given how easy it would be to just drop a few small units with ranged skirmishers to disrupt big units then

maybe just 12,5% (rounded up) casualties instead of 25%? provided the flanking unit causes at least one of those casualties?
>unit of 20 needs 3 dead men instead of 4
>unit of 30 needs 4 dead men instead of 8
>unit of 40 needs 5 dead men instead of 10
good enough? it favours having crossing fire with flanking units and normal ranged units, and it favours splitting fire between multiple enemy units instead of firing everything into one, to cause as many panic tests as possible

but it is still all a significant buff to ranged units for arguably no real need
>>
>>98512671

Seems alright to me.
In my experience, ballistic skill shooting is really weak in TOW. But maybe it's because I've fought mainly against warriors of chaos and dwarfs with my empire. Outriders and road wardens have actually managed to kill enemy models, handgunners never.

Your 'game' looks boring and is boring, since who would want to play a game when you're sure you're going to loose, espcially when there's siege weapons ON the towers, so doulbe bonus for the defender, even that wooden double ladder on wheels won't even be able to stop a canon ball or a giant bolt. I really dont get the issue people have with details. You can purposefully leave them blank on some parts of the model to have it blend in with the model and be filigree giving an abstract artwork look to some parts of the armour. Often the details look shit irl when you edge highlight everything especially given the average noob-mid level generic paint schemes/styles. The new warriors barely have any outrageous level of detail on them.

My point is more you can intentionally draw attention to certain areas of the model through highlighting and detail and making other areas more plain and less detailed. Take the new warrior. All the detail is filled in and highlighted and it just becomes a shiny blob. If anything his lower legs draw attention more than the rest of the model besides the drum and even thats only due to the colour contrast for it. Theres no focal point on his head.

I'm still around, but I'm mostly just a lurker these days. the 6th edition revival here turned out to just be a TOW waiting room, and since that collapsed for the new shiny supported game I've been to bummed out and bitter to play fantasy again. >You can purposefully leave them blank on some parts of the model
Personally speaking, that's not how I like to hobby. Especially not if I'm paying £3.50 per basic infantry model (chaos warriors as the example). I paint my models to the best of my ability as a skill to be practiced, plus I want to play the game with the best looking models I can muster, so I'm not leaving random details unpainted. But it's just a chore to paint 4 random trinkets per model. Give me the flat space, leave it as an open canvas, and let me practice my blending and glazing and freehand. It also makes the models more recognisable at tabletop distance if they have larger blocks of colour and fewer details to parse.

>>98514349
>There's a ton of armies I'd make if not for the cost, and the models are too detailed now anyway. You really don't need any more detail but it's all GW does now.
Same and same. It's why 3d printing has reinvigorated my hobby. A few good creators out there who make modern looking models with a middlehammer level of detail. And they cost like £0.70 per model to print, including cost of STLs and consumables and electricity. Cheaper models, less unnecessary detail, bags more character. Way more enjoyable.
>>
File: warrior.jpg (308 KB, 815x855)
308 KB JPG
>>98514554
And it's not just trim or trinkets, a large part of the issue for me is overlapping tiny bits of detail that look great on a zoomed in Instagram image but make zero difference in any real world viewing, either up close or on tabletop.

Example: this drum stick, and the details inside the mouth of the skull. There's cloth over the top of metal over the top of wood, in a space that's probably 1.5mm long at most. For clarity the orange arrow points at the metal and the cyan arrow at a tiny area of wood. In my humble opinion that detail has not been designed with ease of painting in mind, at all, for anyone, even competition painters. It's just to get people to buy "our insanely detailed models".
You can see the same thing with straps and wraps: 10 years ago, a section of wraps would be one continuous piece of material that you could paint and shade with one pass. On multiple modern kits, they design the wraps to have gaps in them, showing tiny slivers of the underlying material underneath, presumably because it's "finely detailed". Multiple tiny <1mm sections of cloth or wood, on basic infantry models. It does nobody any favours in painting them up; a choice between "painstakingly pick out each of these basic bits of wood and go back to clean up any mess on the straps criss-crossing them" and "leave parts of the model unpainted because painting them is universally agreed to be a pointless chore" doesn't have a good option, imo.

Anyway rant over, to each their own etc etc.
>>
>>98515398
On the other hand it's not like anyone will notice or care if you just cut some corners painting them.
>>
>>98515398
>>98515407
That’s the biggest thing. You really don’t have to paint in the detail. And your argument of „ If im paying for a model that has that much detail I must paint in every last bit of detail „ is a bit nonsensical, you’re setting your own standard/binding yourself. I personally think it’s better to have the detail, so that people who want to paint all of it can do so, and the rest of us can cut a few corners/hide some of the detail through leaving it dark enough for it to blend.

I get your argument, but your inability to remain flexible due to terms you impose on yourself is rather silly.

Went to a tournament. Managed to encounter my first "that guy."
>Brought 8 gyros, 3 cannons, and a grudge thrower facing my fluffy Royal Clans list
>Started by complaining constantly when I caught his gyrocopter unit on a short fire and flee roll
>Continued getting upset and increasingly aggressive that I was able to play the game since his shooting did not manage to delete all of my units before I was able to chug across the field and score points, get some charges off, etc.
>Was very confident and aggressive about such rules as not needing to be entirely on the hill to get two ranks of shooting, and me being allowed to reroll dangerous terrain tests with move through cover for his engineer sapper hostile terrain rule, and sulked and complained constantly when I confirmed and showed him the rule
>Berated me when I was about to role my armour savable wounds before the wounds that went straight through to my ward since it was a waste of time. Which statistically it was, but would have saved maybe 5 seconds.
>I suspect a couple of instances of "creative movement," though I could not prove it and his general behavior might be coloring that for me.
>Despite 1 misfire ending in no wounds the entire game (which I think on 4 war machines is like a 1-2% chance?) complained the entire game and afterwards about rolling badly on shooting
>Managed to tie
>Heard him aggressively arguing and sulking throughout the tournament with his other opponents.
Other people where chill though. Kind of wonder what the point of all that was or what he was getting from this. Did not seem like he was having fun. Not like there was a prize or anything and while I like competitive play its not exactly super balanced or something I could see it worth getting upset over.

However bringing a meta list who's win condition is to essentially make sure I do not get to play and then getting super upset and complaining about dice when I actually get to play the game is was interesting

Try to take 30 minutes to an hour every day, even if you only get to paint e.g a weapon, a cloak or something on a handful of models at a time then eventually you'll work through your minis.
>>
>>98515697
I paint at work, during, lunch and breaks of course.

That gives me a clean 5 hours of painting per week. If i get even 1/2 hour in the evening or some time in the weekend that's better.

Consistent small sessions are better than sporadic dragged-out marathons.
Do it enough time and it becomes an habit, to the point that lack of motivation stops being a real obstable.

>how do you see a big army project through to completion?
Batch painting. I usually assemble, base and prime a shitton of miniatures at once then work on batches. Find the bstch size that works for you (start very low and increase with time). I do batches of 12 models, which i tend to finish in 3-5 weeks over the course of many shortish sessions.
It might not seem much but then by the end of the year I end up with anywhere between 100 and 150 painted models.

Its nothing to do with skill or cost per model. If anything it requires more artistic skill to know what should and shouldnt be painted in excessive detail to evoke a certain effect. Most models people post here and elsewhere often lack a focal point as they do everything overly highlighted without any actual thought as to why or the direction of the light. The Chorf anon's models look good as he has a good paint scheme that draws your eyes to certain parts of the model. If you check the details he doesnt go excessive on it with edge 578548338933 highlights.
>>98515398
You dont need to highlight every bit of detail on that drumstick. with regard to straps and trinkets you can literally do most of them by a simple metal or leather layer followed by a wash (ideally reductive oil wash as you naturally cause highlights by removing it.

Overall I highly disagree with the notion that detail is an outright issue and more an issue with how you guys wish to paint both through paint schemes/styles and techniques you use.

I was big into the tournament scene in 6th and 7th with my ogres and beastmen. Those players have always existed and always say the day after they had fun. Some people genuinely like complaining and use it as a venting pressure valve. Its really fucking terrible painting with them though. Our scene played WYSIWYG 3 color minimum so the hard-core guys in my group owned almost 3 armies worth of their models per faction.
I had a dwarf guy accuse me of rigging dice when his cannon failed to kill my Tyrant after 3 hits that went through all my saves but each did minimum wounds.

Renegade Crowns is a cleaner fit because you can customise your unit loadouts so much more.

Is there any reason to not take Great Weapons and shields on every Dwarf unit that can pay for the additional upgrade? Thunderers and Quarrelers with additional great weapons and shields for use with hand weapons seems like a cheap but useful upgrade at 3 extra ppm.
>>
>>98516434
Yeah consider you dont want your ranged stuff to be fighting in melee to begin with you oaf.
>>
>>98516454
nta, I used to run great weapons on my ranged dwarfs.
it did cost me a enough points to buy a couple more of them. but the worst thing that can happen is them getting stuck fighting light cav, fliers or infiltration infantry.
the great weapons all but assured I'd win the fight with enough to route the enemy in combat resolution, provided I didn't get flanked.
if two points is the difference between me getting charged in my opponents turn and getting to shoot in mine instead of being stuck in combat for my turn and possibly even longer then that's a steal.
never bothered with shields, if they are shooting at my ranged units they aren't going after my infantry blobs or my siege engines. in close combat saving a few dwarfs but not breaking the enemy isn't worth it because they should be shooting not fighting.
>>
>>98516429
No, they specifically asked me to play it. My group aren't salty bitches except one guy who will concede turn 2 if one of his important units dies/breaks too quick.

speaking from experience, trust me, take everything.

you never know when your warriors or rangers or even thunderers are gonna get tied up by some higher toughness bruisers or creature, and while even the most basic dwarf units can last for days, you will never fight your way out of it with just hand weapons, especially on the S3 units.

dwarfs work best as elite swiss army knives, not budget chaff, so dont skimp on the upgrades. having well armed units will make it hard for your opponent to find weak spots in your army, as even our basic ranged units can be outfitted and fight as well as most other armies elite infantry.

also, dont overlook the option to give unit champions runes. that can make a huge difference when your front fighting rank suddenly has a miniature powerhouse they cant dislodge until the whole squad is dead and fights almost as hard as a rank unto himself.

It is pretty different, mainly in magic, which is what saw the most reforms and advancements post Magnus. Guns and cannons and even the Steam Tank were already around. Not sure on every weird Engineer invention. Personally I hope when they resculpt the State Missile Troops and they go back to the old matchlock gun designs they had in 6th. Knowing GW though they wont, they'll add more wheel locks onto the guns and give the champion a top hat and monocle.

Skaven is where they really shot themselves in the foot. Most of their stuff like the Doom Wheel, Gattling Guns and Warp Lightning Cannon were all specifically invented by Ikkit after the great war. If they ever bring back Skaven I'd bet money all that is getting retconed.

What is there to solve? The armies that can run good deathstars (TK, VC) are only able to do so thanks to unpreventable leadership-based resurrection abilities. Kind of. People have no problem spending that kind of money on 40k and or space marine.

I think the fact of the matter is simply that RnF fantasy games just can't support the type of continuous expenditure GW expects to milk out of its customers.

I also suspect that they could probably double their prices and enough people would still buy it to support their decision

tier lists are misused and misunderstood by 95% of players because they can't play at the level required for the tier lists to matter and if you can play at that level you wouldn't need a tier list to tell you which factions are 'strong' and which are 'weak'

>it's not like anyone will notice or care
I'll preface this with "to each their own" again but I notice your unpainted trim and I do find it a slight shame. Of course I wouldn't pull you up on it, it's not a big enough deal outside of this conversation and besides they're your models and it's your hobby time. But I definitely care about my own models in that regard though. That's kind of my whole point.

>>98515485
>You really don’t have to paint in the detail
Yeah but I find that rather silly. And in this case, the flexibility is about printing models I'll enjoy painting, which I think is a much better solution. So we're all good. But I maintain that "you don't have to paint all parts of the model" is a cope for over designed models and, between that and the other side's "I want to paint all parts of my model but there's no way I'm painting that", indicates that literally nobody finds that extra detail useful.

>>98516026
>You dont need to highlight every bit of detail on that drumstick
As I say, might be fine for you but that's not how I like to paint
>reductive oil wash as you naturally cause highlights by removing it
A quick and dirty technique that produces a grubby-ish effect which is not how I enjoy engaging with my painting time. Works fine if you're into it, l'll compliment your models at the table if they're fully painted using this technique, but definitely not for me.

Bought a box of goblins today. The bases seem outrageously big for them. Is an all-goblin army viable or just a meme army? I don’t really care either way because I love the little retards, I’m just curious.
>>
>>98521727
Yeah, for the most part I think the new base sizes are fine and even an improvement in some cases (black orcs). But goblins, and especially night goblins, look like they're doing social distancing on 25mms.
All goblins is a meme army for sure. All night goblins is more viable, but 90% of it is just because of fanatics, and bringing like 8+ fanatics in a list is peak lame tourneyfaggotry.
>>
>>98521768
Yeah, orcs on 30mm makes sense to me too, but gobs on 25 is nuts. Sucks that it’s a meme force as far just getting my ass beat any time I play with them, but I guess it’ll make it more fun when I actually pull off a win.

I once considered personalising the movement trays so that the more models are removed the more they show dead troopers and bloodied ground (the simple way would have been printing a screenshot of a carpet of dead bodies from total war), but I have since moved towards way more heterogeneous units with different freaks, round bases and whatnot, so it's a nightmare to plan for, and the immersion it would offer gets broken the moment the unit moves, so I never bothered.

I might start considering individual dead tokens to drop on a table just for fun though.

Tourneyfags and tier lists actively destroy the hobby. They are an objectively bad thing and their prevalence has utterly obliterated any semblance of fun remaining in the 40k scene. If does not matter if you personally are just asking out of curiosity and don't REALLY care about that sort of thing, tolerating their presence is inviting more. Gatekeeping against them is the best thing anyone can do, and you should feel a moral obligation to jump down the throat of anyone who suggests otherwise. If you care about power levels and tier lists, WFB is not for you and you should go away.
>>
>>98521727
>>98521768
Might be a hot take, but a bunch of units that should have stayed 20mm should now be swarms at 40mm and adjust their cost to make sense for it. Gobbos on a base with 4 attacks 4 wounds is interesting because it fits their theme of a jumbled mob, giving them decent number of attacks even as they take wounds.
Peasants, maybe flagellents, clanrats, melee skinks, ungors. Honestly, maybe every army with a core light infantry that cost 6 or less?

I am building a unit of goblins right now and plan on putting them on 20mm bases because they look pretty bad on 25mm bases. A heads up, the sculpts are charming and nice and characterful, but expect to do a lot of mold line cleaning and potentially dealing with mold slippage too. All Goblin armies seem viable as well, mostly because of the sheer amount of goblin variety. Best of luck!

I feel like if you did that you'd have to apply it to all line infantry and buff monsters again because we don't have step up anymore and it would be really silly for losing 1 wound on a chaos warrior or daemon to cost you retaliatory attacks but 3 wounds to gobbos does nothing.

But no, seriosuly, the eavy metal team does not care about painting the minis on display on the webstore half time and they sure as shit did not do that when no one cared for tow at the time when they were shitting out entire ranges with dwarfs and orcs and goblins and chaos warriors and the empire back to back.
They either re-used old paint jobs and copy pasted it or just only photo shopped it.

It's literally just talking in circles and samefagging and schizo claims with you. As you can see by the brand new WoC miniatures, none of them are black either, when normally in 40k/AoS there is a black guy in every unit. Meanwhile TOW has 0 blacks in the official models on display/in the store.

Now, as a separate statement, while the new chaos models are very clearly meant to pay homage to the 5th ed models, they're obviously not as good because they have less options, are more annoyin to assemble, and lack the charm that makes the 5th ed range so great.
Old always equals good when it comes to WHFB.

If and when GW updates state troops, each box will be 20% women and half the male head options will be broad-nosed, fat-lipped subsaharans.

yes it's me I'm the guy who makes every post calling what GW makes goyslop.

The thought of that makes me very sad.

How come the new Marauders are on 30x30mm bases?
I have a thought, extrapolated to the max, and think that GW got a 5 year plan to get TOW all on 30mm as the models are replaced by monoposed CAD uninspiring models, cutting costs on the multiple bases they must manufacture. Also pushing aside the older models like in 40k with the marines, replacing the consummer base by new blood, with the old guard who bought all the new models, basically a new army from scratch ($$$) or without the old guard and their old 20mm, 25mm /theirdudes/.
>>
>>98523488
Because they released new, bigger models. Also, the other chaos characters were on 30mm bases, so having characters join a unit of marauders was bothersome.
Your thought is not original and is quite obviously what their business model is. Why do you think they increased the base sizes in the first place? If you, or anyone else in this thread, rebased your models, you're part of the problem.
You aren't special for noticing what everyone else did several years ago at this point.

For how much the other anon keeps posting Perry minis, they just seem out of place - proportion wise - compared to the other Warhammer minis. Shame.
>>
>>98523372
That's completely unfounded considering 0% of the new releases for TOW have had blacks. You're having a schizo shitposting manic episode lad.
>>
>>98523542
They look especially tiny next to recent releases. Probably why he likes them so much, he seems himself in them.
>>
>>98523550
>the “we’re trying to break into the Chang market that hates blacks” line of releases has no blacks
>the main antagonists of the setting (WoC) now have a single named character, and it’s a swarthy woman
Ok, m8.
>>
>>98523542
Captain Bloodsword is also a particularly skinny model. I’m working on stripping an eBay rescue and he looks emaciated compared to state troopers, so the perry guys are skelemaxxed

'bothersome', yes I'm sure GW is trying to save us all some hassle, as they always did.
And I'm saying things for now, not years ago. Having bigger models is something ot point at, it goes beyond the base but a whole change of the game, like the Primaris did with 40k. Years of models no longer legal, compared to Fantasy, where some model from 1988 is still valid.
Also, I don't plan on rebasing, I think it is a waste of time. Just get adjusted movement trays or make your own.
I suppose all Empire will be the size of that Mercenary General model, half ogre, what is this, Conquest? Would that suddenly get people to play it instead of AoS or 40k? Bigger, uglier models with no options WYSIWYG to the purest form, being the only form there is? I am answering my own question, but it'll need more than Cathay to get people turning their heads.
>>
>>98523542
Perry minis are retarded and 3D printing made them completely irrelevant nearly a decade ago.
>>
>>98523598
Bothersome as in the rules specifically make it so that having a character on a differently sized base join a unit with a smaller or larger base size forces you to put the character sticking out on the side. You should know this, it's in the core rulebook.
I'm glad we agree GW is fucking players over. Don't like 'em, don't buy 'em, that's my motto. If other people keep fucking up, let them. It's literally not your, or my, problem.
However, I think you should keep this 40k complaining where it belongs, as in not here. WHFB isn't 40k. The people playing WHFB aren't the people playing 40k.
WHFB players kept damn near every edition of the game alive for over ten years. You're preaching to the choir right now. Go post this shit in /40kg/ where it actually might help someone.
>>
>>98523542
>they just seem out of place - proportion wise - compared to the other Warhammer minis.
Seems like the obvious solution is to just buy a perry army so you don't have to mix. An army will cost about the same as two GW units.

Tbh after getting other models I can't go back to GW's "heroic" big hand bobbleheads. It works great for orcs, trolls, goblins and ogres, not so much for humans and elves.

Swarthy????
>>
>>98523705
I genuinely have no idea where that came from, anon. Are you trying to actually discuss the game and where it's going, or are you just trying to troll? What do the Perry brothers, who contributed many great sculpts to WHFB in the '80s and who have, unfortunately, had their names ran through the mud by retards who infest threads they don't belong in, have to do with this discussion?
If you don't like GW and their business model, good. I agree. Why are you shitting up this thread?

Snarlfang minis for a hobgoblin khanate themed nomadic waagh. Thats the plan at least. Right now all I own for it is the aforementioned giant and an unpainted banner boss on boar.
The Droggz character just needs his big ass banner taken off and he's a Kiknik in waiting.

Is it true that homebrew stuff inserted into the Warhammer Fantasy wiki or lexicanum being trolls or autists wanting their homebrew canonized made it into the old world map?
I read about it here somewhere and just remembered it. Can anyone confirm or did I fall for someone's ass crust?

God damn it, these newer kits fucking suck. Everything is split into 50 pieces and the directions blow. Does a single leg really need to be 3 fucking parts? Just put this Kroc together wrong because they decided the chest piece I needed wasn't the one on the spru with the rest of it's parts, but randomly on another spru. Why even number the parts if your going to just throw them where ever you want. Why the fuck is part 50 and part 52 on completely different sprus. Fuck you GW.

Technically you can have crossbowmen with heavy armour and shields in the renegade crowns list, but they're not a Merc unit available for all factions.

Good has 6 factions, evil has 4. Bring back Dark Elves. Or Chorfs. Chaos has an AoS line and a TOW line, so it’s possible.

Most of the Warhammer YouTubers seem kinda shitty people, especially that one fat guy. The Aussie guys sound like they've a better attitude towards the game, but that might be because of the funny accents. The jolly fat guy over at old world legends also sounds like he has the proper mindset. It's also fun to hear him try to steer the conversation with his co-host, who is much, much more critical about the ruleset etc.
