How do i stop my players from killing civilians and prisoners?
>>98514425
>>98514425Don't play with brain-rotted D&Drones.
>>98514425Ban thieflings on your table
>>98514425Tell them it's a good way to get bounty hunters on their ass. If they keep doing it, send in drastically overpowered bounty hunters that cause a TPK. Seriously, never be afraid to kill a group of PCs when their actions would obviously result in that shit happening.
>>98514425By having appropriate actions befall them.Unless they were like, POW's in a conflict where the conventions of war don't apply, in which case, do what the troop commander does; shrug and make sure they burn the bodies so they don't lie around smelling.
>>98514425I mean you could try the normalfag thing and talk to them but that's boring.Have them kill the wrong person like some local lord's son, some noble in disguise, or really anyone with powerful connections. If in a more modern setting have competent federal agents or the equivalent start pursuing them after picking up the thread of their murders. And yes, make it clear the encounters will escalate and that you're not sorry if it's fucking hard.Jfc I swear every anon should be required to run or play something other than dnd. This is like 101 for any sandbox game. Killing people all over the place? Here comes trouble. I mean fuck, it's like half the premise of Exalted or an outlaw campaign. You got super powers - but you're anathema. Anyone finds out you're anathema? Dragonblooded and imperial soldiers everywhere unless you're fucking a gazillion miles from civilization.
>>98514425Increasingly difficult enemies and decreasingly valuable loot. Think magic items they can't attune to, no cash AT ALL, redundant weapons, etc. Also no shops buy or sell to them and when they attempt to ransack them, it's all starter gear. If they want to do the war crime they have to face the war time
Why is this a problem?Do you feel like it's groundhog day and you can predict everything they do because they do the same thing over and over again? Tell them. They might be happy acting like autists and you don't like it, it might be the wrong group. It doesn't have to be a serious intervention. I currently have a player that yells to his friend to be normal when he gets like that. You can stop them and tell them to do something different because they're boring you. If you feel this is wrong but you actually enjoy it, then you're just running a game about mobsters. Motivate them to demand protection money, give them shady deals, let them enjoy their lives, give them the Goodfellas experience where everything seems perfect until their shit catches up to them. No need to kill them, enjoy the story that comes from their actions. Now, you have to consider this, is it your fault? Are you giving them flat worlds with no clear things to interact with? Do you think you're giving them reasons to care about NPCs? Do you think they have other options to interact with the world besides breaking it?Arneson had carousing tables, giving them reasons and rewards for roleplaying even retarded things is older than D&D. There's a reason why building a keep and getting troops were there since AD&D, it gives players known goals to achieve on their own terms.
>>98514425>my playersYou mean player characters, right? Right?
>>98514425>level 5 party keeps killing npcs>send a level 8 party to hunt the banditsit's that shrimple really, your players are now the bad guys that heroes from across the world will be hunting down.
>>98514425Why would you? It's not up to you.
DON'T SOLVE OUT-OF-GAME PROBLEMS WITH IN-GAME SOLUTIONS.DON'T SOLVE OUT-OF-GAME PROBLEMS WITH IN-GAME SOLUTIONS.DON'T SOLVE OUT-OF-GAME PROBLEMS WITH IN-GAME SOLUTIONS.Did I get that through your meathead? Good. Fucking talk to them like adults and come to a solution.
>>98514425Take inspiration from history.>upgrade the "defenseless Civilian" to someone, who was required by his lord to carry weapons and train with them>make the "random NPC" part of a family, a clan, a tribe - a social organisation, who protects them and promises revenge on the people hurting their members>add bounty hunters to the game, invite the PCs to a trial and declare them outlaws, if they don't attend, create NPCs, who hunt them down and demand compensation (Wergeld) for any Civilian they killed, add Knights, who challenge them to a duelJust punish them. Show them that they completely fucked up their campaign by ruining their reputation, which will make them into social outcasts, who are hunted down.
>>98514425>their reputation precedes them>civilians will take up arms and band together to fight them, recognizing it to be their only shot at surviving>would-be-prisoners will fight to the death rather than surrender, knowing that they will only be killed anyway>enemies will give just as little quarter as they would have offered themselves
>>98514425>playersCall the cops from a safe place.
>>98514425>No! Noo!! How DARE my players be evil! I HAVE to punish them!!You guys are gay>Players play murder-hobos>Bounty hunters (reskinned bandits) start coming after them>Bandit kings, goblinoid leaders, and evil wizards become interested in working with them>Now instead of raiding dungeons they're getting tipoffs and missions to raid villages, outposts, monasteries, fortresses, etc.>Have noble heroes oppose them on some "Ye shall be struck down by my holy blade, vile servants of Zardoz!">Still the same game but they're fighting good guys instead of bad guys
>>98514425This is why I like Cyberpunk RED. Though the cyberpsychosis system isn't perfect (I can't remember if they fixed it with Black Chrome) doing things like that very actively affects character morale/sanity and punishes the players for being dip shits. Conversely, characters acting benevolently towards NPCs, helping people or hanging out with friends and family can help reverse some of these effects.Fuck I miss playing Cyberpunk with my bros
>>98515287>>98515121Immersion-breaking faggots>>98515092>>98515115>>98515565People who actually understand what a sandbox RPG isAs for my solution, this has been said before in various ways, but anything the players are capable of doing is something their enemies are capable of, not for the reason of "fairness", but because they both exist in the same system and there is no in-setting or otherwise marker of "a minion" or "a player character" or "a boss" or "a NPC".
>>98519794this
>>98514431fpbp>>98514425You owe us a goddamn storytime, faggot, start yapping, I'll start the campfire, everyone else get the snacks.
>>98515287Doesn't work. I'm all for them trying it, however, on at least five different occasions I have outright told players "Look, I'm playing a straight up 'You gotta smite evil' type of paladin. Your actions have been clearly evil and the only reason I haven't had my character go after your character is there is just a sliver of a chance they might not notice what your doing. If you keep doing such blatantly evil shit, he WILL notice and WILL act accordingly. I'm just giving you a heads up" Did it in front of the whole table including the GM a twice. Every god damn time, they ignored the warning and I killed their character making the other player pissed off. These guys were mind raping elderly people to give up their belongings, beating ten year olds into paste for information gathering, and other henious shit. One time, the group stopped a dark ritual where a cult was going to sacrifice an elf newborn to a demon in exchange for power. We stopped the ritual, cultists killed off, and this fucking guy, immediately buried a knife in the newborn's skull while saying "Give your power to me!" and was upset when I killed him on the spot for doing so.Never be afraid to talk to players about problems but also be prepared when they likely don't stop doing their bullshit.
>>98514425What's the context? But as many people said, some cariation of bounty hunters or lawmen or enemy faction memebers looking for revenge coming after them word of their deeds got out.
>>98520984So it sounds like everyone except you wants to play a murderhobo campaign. Maybe your paladin needs to fuck off, vowing to bring them to justice, and you replace him with a degenerate scumbag.
>>98514425Same way Legend of Zelda has you not steal stuff.Labels you a THIEF forever.Have the NPCs learn about what they do and have them be referred to as no no words.
>>98514425Give them an Aura of Righteousness. NPC, Guards and enemies will be hostile, afraid or dont trust the players. Maybe a high negative Aura triggers curses or increasing mobs of enemies.
>>98514425WHY CONTAIN IT?
>>985144251. Why would you?2. Why would they? From most TTRPGs point of view, terminating a threat before it becomes recurring / a burden just makes sense. Outside of polite society, initiation of the use of force need to be retaliated as quickly and effectively as possible, and the well-being of the aggressor is not your responsibility. So the question becomes "Why would they?". Prisonners are a subdued threat, but a threat nonetheless. A drain on resources. So you have to make it worth the players' while. Is ransoming captives captured in battle part of your setting? Was there a bounty on their heads worth 3x more if brought in alive? Are the prisonners potential bargaining chips valued by their nations or fully expendable? Do the captives have information, or even better, skills that would benefit the PCs? Assuming PCs woupd be willing to take prisonners at their expense, is there a way for them to deal with the prisoners humanely?> Be us.> Evil DnD 3.PF group> Remnants of a thieves' guild rebuilding itself.> Leader: Pat. Rogue scout. Lawful Evil. Specializes in the sap.> Hometown has labor shortages and an arena.> So we loot the monsters. And humanoids. All of them.> 5 years indentured servitude for their lives for most humanoids: Attacking us incurs a debt.> Dire crocodile and such sold for a neat profit to the Arena. And this, the Thieves' guild and related business deals, were ALL side-stuff. A damn good campaign.> Uncomfortable truth: Slavery, especially temporary, is often preferred to death.
>>98515287don't tell me what to do fag
>>98520749yeah there is
>>98520977>snacks Fat ass detected. You know that not everything has to be accompanied by food, right?
