making a GSC gang with the new rules, heres my roster so far to start with, just want some input
Leader
>GSC adept (autopistol, fighting knife) 135 credits

Champion
>hybrid acolyte (grenade launcher) 165 credits
>hybrid acolyte (heavy stubber, extra arm) 175 credits

ganger
>aberrant (heavy rock saw) 185 credits
>neophyte hybrid (2x autopistols) 60 credits
>neophyte hybrid (autogun) 60 credits
>neophyte hybrid (extra arm, heavy stubber) 130 credits

juves
>neophyte initiate (autogun) 40 credits
>neophyte initiate (autogun) 40 credits

thats 990 credits so far
honestly I don't really know what i'm doing beyond "leader, 2 champs and fill out the rest"
if I downgrade the heavy stubber champ to a regular ganger with a heavy stubber, I should be able to fit in yet another ganger

>Andy Chambers and Jervis Johnson consider it their best designed game
>the fans fuckin hate it

why?
>>
>>98523525
How is Kill Team? The general isn't made anymore and I don't find that to be a good sign.

>>98524157
Proof that fans hated it back then?
Did something cause it to have a cult following?
Beyond nostalgia and 6mm novelty of course.
>>
>>98524157
I can't speak for others, but in my group we didn't like the way that units were "dumbed down". I put that in quotes because I'm sure if I looked over the lists now I wouldn't have an issue with them at all, but 15 year old me missed losing out on unit entries with a bunch of different weapon profiles. Something about rolling a shit ton of dice during Space Marine/Titan Legion games just felt fun. We didn't like the way that Titans and Gargants were changed as well.
>>
>>98524203
>Proof that fans hated it back then?

Epic went from being a mainline GW game to being a specialist game practically overnight due to Epic 40k (3rd ed) having such low sales numbers
>>
>>98524203
its not that its a bad sign, the game is just solved and thus theres rarely a point for discussion. theres no list building, theres no campaigns, theres no creativity.
Generically, its fun enough to play. but theres just nothing to talk about unless a big drop comes along. threads for exodites (exodites shit) came and went
>>
>>98524157
>>the fans fuckin hate it
The game went through a similar but much more extreme shift as 2nd edition 40k to 3rd.
Everything in Epic Space Marine had its own special rules. Every different unit, sometimes a page of it, about how specifically the grave cannons or bubble chucker or imperial robot order trees were drawn out or land train car configurations etcetcetc. which was very flavourful and had a lot of neat stuff going on but was a lot of specific rules and references and counters to keep track of. This got condensed to a very very minimalist and abstract wargame. We went from rolling the bolter fire for each stand of marines in a company to an abstract firepower total and a cross reference chart.
Which is pretty slick too, but a very different game compared to what came before. A lot of people were not excited about the change at the time, and the community build/rework of Epic 40K to Epic Armageddon hits a nice medium, with more detail but a lot of the flexibility of the newer rule set. It just took everyone a decade to calm down.
>>
>>98524020
You'll get plenty of credit if you replace heavy rock saw with power hammer.
>>
>>98524203
Just go to normie place like facebook, discord or reddit for Killteam. They gatekeep the shit out of poorfags so game is fucking dead on the poorfag forum.

I can believe Jervis "I'm a talentless hack who despises games with actual game mechanics" Johnson thinks that, but I'd lose a lot of respect for him if Andy actually said that over any of the other amazing games he worked on. Source?

I was hornyposting a few days ago and got no responses, which I respect.

However! Would it be untoward of me to ask whether or not anyone would be interested in either A: Reading smut written by yours truly set on Necromunda
B: Viewing NSFW artwork involving Necromunda characters?

To get back on topic, I keep hearing rumors that Inquisitor is coming back in plastic.
Any truth to this or just wishful thinking?
>>
>>98525178
They're out, and for the most part look solid imo.
Goliaths being S3 rustles my jimjams though, even though thats what they were in 95
>>
>>98525256
Given you didn't unload a torrent of complaints and doom on me, I'm gonna guess it's not too bad.
How does it work as a pick up and play game?
>>
>>98525267
The preset options in the box might be alright, but Id generally recommend against any edition of necromunda with randoms as it can be broken extremely easily by a WAACfag opponent.
It really shines as a campaign game anyway, you'll be missing a huge chunk of what makes it fun just doing 1 off games
>>
>>98525178
>>98525267
They cleaned up the janks but game is in super early access. And a bunch of fighters in your roster hit on a 5+ so as a one off game the only viable option for them is using template weapons. In campaign you need to roll a 9 on a 2D6 when they rank up to turn that 5+ into a 4+.
>>
>>98525285
I'm mostly worried because I don't think a two person campaign is gonna go very well
>>
Anyone have a copy of the book of the outcast? Trying to build up my necro library in case I hate the new edition
>>
>>98525294
A campaign with 3 or 4+ guys and an arbitrator would work better, but a 2 man campaign would be better than single games I reckon as long as you have some sort of failsafe in case something catastrophic happens and it becomes supremely imbalanced (eg life insurance payout of a few creds if someones leader becomes irreparably mangled or dead in game 1)
>>
>>98525144
Why? 3rd edition accomplished the design goal of every detachment representing a (2nd ed) 40k army and the game itself representing several games of 40k across a huge battlefield. In Space Marine, Epic 2nd, and even Epic Armageddon, that just isn't the case, since when you take a detachment it's always a weird grouping of units that when assaulting would never really represent an actual 40k army (tacticals can't mix with assault marines or devastators in the same detachment in any edition of epic aside from 3rd, for example).
>>
>>98524203
>how is kill team?

Not as good as necromunda, still a lot better than playing fucking 11th edition, 28mm is just not the right miniature scale for the "battle game" format every 40k edition past 2nd has become.
>>
>>98525531
Because it's shit, as evidenced by the fact everyone hated it at the time and by the fact that even with decades to play on people's nostalgia and build a cult following it hasn't. I've seen more people playing *GorkaMorka* than I have Smallboringhammer, and compared to Armageddon 3rd players don't even constitute a rounding error.

And if that was a design goal rather than some bullshit you've just made up to try and reframe the edition's boring over-abstraction as intentional rather than a generational fuck up, then it was a stupid fucking design goal and as I said, I'd lose a lot of respect for Andy if that was his opinion rather than merely your dumbass view.

What matters is whether the game represents how 40K armies would actually fight on that scale of battlefield and whether or not the game is fun and engaging to play - Epic Armageddon nails both harder then the poolboy fucking your mom, 3rd does neither.
>>
>>98525866
>represents how 40K armies would actually fight on that scale of battlefield

okay let's look at epic armageddon
>all marine special/heavy weapons are missile launchers for some reason
>terminator squads have 2 assault cannons for some reason
>imperial guard heavy weapons squads and chaos marines/havocs always have autocannons for some reason instead of any other fucking heavy weapon
>assault marines and devastators in the same formation? never gonna happen, ignore all the times it has happened in fluff. not possible. marines would never do that

wow it's almost like an abstract firepower table and the "build a detachment" system would fit way better

More than suck 1490 Doom is just way to basic of a game. Good enough for random board game, but good enough for a wargame let alone to be your main wargame.
Also GW prices for 3D printed shit is something that should be shamed.
>>
>>98524251

1997 was a bad year for GW non mainline games with Epic 40k flopping and Gorkmorka doing alright but being massively overproduced so financially flopping.

Epic has never really recovered, even now it's some limited imagination Heresy only thing rather than having all the 40k factions.
>>
>>98525190

Inquisitor is even less likely to come back than Man O'War. Utter flop that sat very uneasily alongside GW's other games. It was a treasure trove of fluff for 40k but beyond some hardcore fans, never found a home.

It's an object lesson that presentation is important in rules. Every unit is completely abstracted to numbers and maybe a special rule, and everything is organized by formations with zero guidance as to what models are in a formation. The whole thing felt like an Avalon Hill boardgame in miniatures form and it was one of the most depressing birthday presents I ever got.

You went from ork lifta-droppas picking up enemy tanks and scattering them in a random direction to ork lifta-droppas adding a blast marker on a 4+.

It also doesn't help that Epic 40k is where squatting originated, since they didn't have anything to lose in Warhammer. The AdMech army that replaced them was pure dogshit modelwise and probably why they didn't bother making AdMech again until 7th edition.

>>98524203
The entire reason Gorkamorka exists is because GW cancelled the Warmaster release after Epic died and they needed something to fill the Christmas release slot.
>>
>>98527539
>>98527635
At this point even hating on 1490 Doom has gotten boring.
Like, I generally get rooting for the little guy since GW fucking sucks, but there's absolutely nothing interesting about 1490 Doom to validate its existence. Most small games have at least some kind of setting or rules hook but its just "Hey we're Trench Crusade with a different setting that has zero impact on gameplay."
>>
>>98530061
I hated that 1490 Doom stans are just retards who think their game has better pricing than GW when their starter set is 90US$ (75$ with discount), that come with 4 resin models and an mdf tower. This is the same shitty pricing as GW, except that GW do have way better pricing on some products.

It was a better game imo, but it was a huge departure from 1st/2nd editions. Totally different game, and that's not what fans wanted. I'm not sure there was a good way to release Epic 40k once everyone was used to a game more similar to 2nd ed. 40k.

Epic Armageddon added some detail back in and also made detachments less free-form. Both of those were good ideas.

Legiones Imperialis is closer to 2nd edition Epic than to Epic 40k or Epic Armageddon. I don't like it as much, but 2nd ed. was the peak of the game's popularity so it makes sense to target its players.
>>
>>98525178
The rules are better, including the campaign rules. Jury's still out on unit design, especially since we haven't seen the journals yet. I expect they'll never end. But that's fine if the rules are good.
>>
Why are these different units? It's especially odd because the the shit that made the runners unique is just freely available to anyone
>>
>>98530844
Scout specialist ganger have different stat and starting xp at 13. But yes Wyld Runner sucks.
>>
>>98530844
Every GW game suffers from unit variants becoming named units with their own models and now GW is stuck with them forever because everyone gets mad if they get folded back into the original unit they were a variant of.

Anyway, they're prospects that a) can take a bow, and b) start with a little bit of XP which locks them into taking Clamber as their first skill.

I think every house got a similar unit. E.g. Orlocks call their generic prospects Greenhorns, and they got Wreckers in the last edition (prospects with Nerves of Steel and jump boosters).
>>
>>98530877
Wrecker and greenhorn are nothing similar, nor does wrecker being similar to Wyld Runner.
>>
>>98530911
They're prospects with a few XP and a preselected skill. Wreckers's wargear makes them a lot cooler, though.
>>
>>98526049
You're wrong, you're retarded, everyone agrees with me, so why should I waste my time arguing with you? A year is nothing. I grew with 40k where each edition was not a massive departure from each other. I mean you can play 3rd edition codex with 7th edition rules without changing much.
It is a hobby after all you are not supposed to speed run it.
>>
>>98524157
over complexity. That was the main issue.
But I think the larger issue is that it tried to cater to historical wargamers while distinctly not being a historical wargame.

I don't like Modern; Epic is basically HH 2.0: bigger battles

It's just humie fest. I want my orks!
>>
>>98532864
HH is such a trash setting for a game.
Is not like you can't do the same shit in current 40k.
Do not want to risk making molds? Well call it The Badab War edition. You still can get away making just basic marine bitches but do not lock yourself in the Slop Heresy era.
>>
Dumb question, but which Kill Teams are the most well balanced vs each other where it's 'anything goes' one has no huge advantage over the other?
Thought about getting into it with a mate that's also a 40K fan, so we could work with any KTs, are the starter set KTs well balanced vs each other?
>>
>>98532905
kill team is decently well balanced.
if you're really worried, just don't pick the top teams. But honestly, unless you're top tier focusing, it won't matter
Raveners, Felgore, AoD, or Wolf Scouts were the tops recently.
>>
>>98532905
Are Kill Teams prefab now? When I was playing 2018 with a mate we'd just choose a point limit and bang whatever together and it worked great. The whole point of KT was you didn't have to buy a specific anything to play and any generic troop box could get you running.

It's pretty much the same game with a few tweaks around the edges. Only annoying thing is them changing team compositions to match the boxes, for some teams it means very little change, for others some major changes....but it's a very specific team related issue and is far from ruining the game.
>>
>>98533188

Meh. The only thing it adds over Necromunda is more detail and a more RPG style of gameplay. GW isn't that bothered about breaking into the RPG market, as shown by it outsourcing all the RPG games. So I don't really see what bringing back Inquisitor does, that Necromunda is vaguely close enough to.

At least Man O'War or BFG hits upon a genuinely different style of game.

you've been able to use multiple rerolls each turn for the last 10 years, retardo
>>98498252
it's pretty based, you can't reroll a reroll but you can use it to cage dive and shit. it lets you do riskier plays on defense or score when things go bad
>>
>>98499222
>>98499313
rerolls are expensive and you're still SOL if you waste all your rerolls early. there are a lot of teams that won't reroll shit on defense so they can use the rerolls for a one turn attempt. on fumbbl, at least, you don't really see teams taking more than 4 rerolls or 3 and a leader. I think I saw maybe one or 2 teams at high tv with like 5 rerolls. but even the cheapest reroll is 50k and it becomes 100k to buy midseason and the season rules trim the teams down so it's hard and expensive to carry a bunch of rerolls. it does make 3+ a leader more viable when in the 1 reroll per turn rules you saw a lot more 2 rerolls, 2 and a leader or 3 rerolls. Pro elves take 4 rerolls a lot but that's because they're the shittiest elves. it's a double edged swords with zons. they want to be low TV for matchmaking and rerolls are bloat and that 50k could be a linewoman, apo or be used to upgrade a linewoman to a positional, but they don't have any ball handling skills or block to start. And then if you play NAF, the Amazons really can't fit more than 3 (or 2 and a leader) rerolls. You do see orcs, humans and proelves with 3 + a leader rerolls in NAF, but most teams still stick with the 2-4 rerolls they had during LRB6

Overall I like most of the changes. The removal of flesh wounds is the only thing I found to be stupid, but thats easy enough to houserule back in. It kinda landed back being closer to N95 in terms of powerlevels and such, which I’m a fan of. The campaign changes are nice too. Now its less of a retarded credits arms race where the luckier gangs snowball with the unluckier gangs being unable to catch up.

I just bought the Exodite set and Deathwatch Kill Team. First minis I've bought in 15 years. I couldn't resist buying it since it was the Exodites and Kill Team seems a lot more manageable to get back into minis again. The game looks fun too.
But are the Exodites actually good in the game? Has anybody here played them in a couple of games yet?
I don't plan on going to stores to play, just at home with my mates doing crazy 4 player games and shit.
I'm going to use the Beast Snagga's as a "team" too. Just use the npc profiles and control them as normal.
>>
>>98542621
They apparently are broken (not in the powerful way) because they have completely different movement rules to every other faction. But this is just what I’ve seen in passing from people online, I haven’t actually played them. So could be an overreaction.
>>
>>98542626
I still haven't played a single game of Kill Team yet, so I'm only just grasping the rules, but I thought their movement wasn't overpowered because they basically just need to run in a straight line and do 45 degree turns here and there.
I'm first going to build a lot of jungle terrain and paint up my teams before playing, so I have some time to learn it (and more importantly teach it to my mates when we play the first time so we all have a good time)
>>
>>98542634
I hope they aren’t actually bad to play, just what I’ve seen shouted online. Hope it goes well for you, and be sure to post models and your board when its finished.

I can't afford hobby supplies until next paycheck, so I've spent the last couple of days researching so I don't make any bad purchases.
It's insanely overwhelming and exciting at the same time. The amount of resources and range of products you can get these days are just insane compared to when I was a kid and teen. Shit I could only dream of having as a kid is readily available to buy now.
And one of my brothers is 3d printing a bunch of terrain pieces for me. I'm going to go full on jungle theme with an ork settlement surrounding the ancient exodite ruins. Classic 2nd edition ork huts with ork walls to make proper Kill Team games. Classic round cactus with red toothpick spikes and shit. I've found bamboos and tons of foliage shit online too.
Going to start with the terrain to get back into painting before I move on to the actual figures.
It probably won't turn out how I imagine it will, but I'll give it my best shot. The materials you can get these days make the base level for people's painting level way higher than when I was a kid.

That emerged in the dying days of Midhammer. 5th ed lasted 4 years, but 6th ed was only two years, and 7th was replaced with 8th after three, establishing the "Every three years like clockwork" pattern we've had since.
>>

Post it anon, I want to see it even though I have a love-hate relationship with the game. Get me interested again so I can get excited, buy another gang (Ratskins -> Van Saar + Enforcers) and give it away to somebody again when I can't find a group to play with. The 3d terrain still captures my imagination; even typing this rn makes me want to start chopping up cardboard boxes and soda cans.

>>
>>98540573
It's fucking bizarreo world, I see people going insane over the new editon saying it's great that all of the gangs are 'closer together' and the extra books are just 'optional flavour' as if they've never played this game before. I don't know, seems like they're trying to cram it into the template of some other game.
>>
>>98543156
>as if they've never played this game before
Well that's because they haven't, you're looking at the newest of newfags and GW's newest employees (and remember fans of the game are specifically weeded out during the hiring process).
>>
>>98542581
I think this take (that you aren't alone in promoting) is immensely dishonest and weaselly.

Peoples' complaints about N17 on that front were always about EQUIPMENT, not power levels or lethality. The standard line was something like, "durrr these gangers are running around with meltaguns, better equipped than space marines."

The melta, plasma, boltguns, etc. are all still the top-tier weapons in N26 that every gang will be gradually moving towards. The iconic weapons just don't function in line with their lore, anymore. You can get hit repeatedly by bolter fire and keep rolling around on the floor groaning. But everyone will still have the same gear as a freshly-deployed Tactical Squad. If that was your problem it wasn't fixed.
>>
>>98543172
That's exactly it I think, but they're going on as if they're super familiar with older editions. Worse yet is that they're lauding stuff that isn't even good. Hopefully they don't completely clear out the wargamey stuff like their other games.
>>
>>98543174
>dishonest and weasely
Fuck you? Forgive me for coming to my own conclusion based off my read through of the rulebook. If you think differently thats fine, but don’t try to lawyer people just because they don’t see it the same way.

My experiences with N17 were positive, but a lot of the problems I had were addressed in N26, and so far I’m optimistic about it.
>>
>>98543181
they have to, if they don't try to blend in with the established players they'll be waved off as newfags
>>
>>98543181
Modern players do not want to play wargames.
They just want to cheat because they suck at videogames.
Once you notice that it is clear why modern wargames are easily portable to a videogame setting.
I mean fuckers are playing 40k in tabletop simulator for fuck sake
>>
>>98543286
That's what I've noticed too, people treat the game like League of Legends, just pick the best shit and everything else is pointless. If you aren't wringing out every tiny advantage in a system you're doing it wrong. Man, grim state of affairs for such a hobby.
>>
>>98543286
>tabletop simulator
what's wrong with it?
>>
>>98543326
No models
>>
>>98543326
Nothing against TTS, is the fact that some people play 40k exclusively on TTS that is bizarre.
Playing for example Twilight Imperium on TTS is understandable. Since you need 3 to 8 peoples to play and coordinating that much people for a single table top game along with the space to play it is not really expected for the average tabletop player
Then again you play TI for the mechanics and the social interaction so TTS serves that purpose good enough.
40k on the other hand or wargames in general mechanics are important, but the main attraction, since you have entire hobby around it painting and building models and the board they are fighting over.
Random TTS game of 40k is odd, but not something out of the ordinary. Being the main way of playing... Just play a videogame at that point
>>
>>98543326
Tabletop games do not make good videogames for the most part, even an experienced player is still going to take longer handling rules interactions than the PC will, once you have the PC handling rules interactiosn the flaws of any given tabletop game are very quickly exposed, and all modern tabletop games are designed as products to sell, not as games to play, so they all quickly get exposed for being shit.
Tabletop gaming isn't primarily about gaming, it's focus is either an artistic hobby or as a social event, neither of those things can occur on TTS.

So if you want play a videogame, play a decent videogame, if you want to be artistic you need to be dealing with actual models, if you want to be social you need to be dealing with actual people.
>>
>>98543355
>40k on the other hand or wargames in general mechanics are important, but NOT the main attraction
Missed a word.
>>98543373
Keeping the TI example they are currently working to make a digital version of TI. The game already feels like some old turn base game regardless and it would mostly help to keep track to the token and card galore the game has.
Think of it as advance wars. That game could easily be a wargame, but it would need some conversions to avoid having the average guy doing calculations for each attack.
>>
>>98543241
>Forgive me for coming to my own conclusion based off my read through of the rulebook.
NTA: No, because you did nothing of the sort, this is just more dishonest weaselling. If you knew enough about people's feelings about N17etc to invoke the real Necromunda and talk about powerlevels, you also had to know enough about the substance of that complaint to know it was about exactly what >>98543174 was talking about.

So either you knew the issue wasn't with the balance between gangs or the overall lethality but was in fact about the way the themes and tone of the game had changed and how the OTT equipment exemplified that for people, in which case your post was in fact dishonest and weaselly, or you managed to see people make that complaint for almost a decade without ever once having the dozen functioning braincells to grasp their extremely obvious painted-all-over-in-neon-hi-vis point, which just makes you fucking retarded.

So which is it: disingenuous liar, or fuckwitted moron?

any ideas or reccommendations for heavy stubbers otherwise?

You know you can just cut the hand off the replace it with a normal hand from one of the autogun? for the left hand just cut the chainsaw hand or find any similar hand that's holding a handle.

For heavy stubber, GW kits has a lot : Cultist of The Abyss, Exaction Squad, Spectre Squad, Cawdor upgrade, Orlock gang, Escher Upgrade, or even Heavy Stubber turret from vehicle kit : repulsor heavy stubber, armiger heavy stubber, trazior turret,....

In pic i used the Repulsor turret.

the stalling rule is annoying and very poorly designed where it only really punishes less experienced/worse coaches. the underdog can spend 50K treasury with the prayers to nuffle is honestly garbage and needs to be house ruled. If you play with 10k prayers like the thing suggests you can be down 5k and get 3 prayers and a mascot. if you're using 30k prayers you can still get 2 when down 10k and some of them like moles, knuckle duster or the free skill one are very OP compared to like 2spp on a foul.
a lot of the teams changed to reflect the rosters the boxes were sold with. That's probably the biggest change in the rules. For some teams like Orcs and Humans this was a major buff while undead and rats, both still good teams, got nerfed by losing 2 ghouls and 2 gutter runners
Break Tackle is now amazing, statups are under costed and doubles are now way over costed. they probably needed to do a better job with the skill prices and player costs. Like block, dodge, guard and mighty blow are still amazing and shit like fumbleruski is so bad people wouldn't spend 5k for it.
Norse are weirdly costed in a way, where if you're fine with getting 10 spp instead of 6spp the berserkers are kind of garbage because a berserker with MB or Guard is 120k but a line norse with mb or guard is 100k. Granted the berserkers have jump up (and frenzy which is kind of bad when you have 2 or 3 ST4+ players with frenzy) where as the linenorse have thick skill, rush on a 3+ instead of a 2+ and can't do the secure the ball.
Oh secure the ball is the other thing. Which they also fucking wrote the rule wrong and then FAQ'd it in a way that doesn't make sense with the text of the rule. if there aren't any enemy players standing within like 2 squares of the ball you can secure the ball and pick up on a 2+ but it's not a pickup roll and you stop moving and end your activation. but rain somehow affects it based on the FAQ, which isn't how the text is written

The classic solution is to use paper, jeweler's chain, cloth, or green stuff to rig up a strap attached to his body armor or a sling going around the torso and shoulder. The straps on the backpack and stubber in picrel are both made from cloth stiffened with PVA glue and the buckle's a bit of thin wire bent into a square.

I really like the Khazad-dum range.

Most armies get extra strikes from a 2nd rank of guys with spears. Khazad-dum don't have them so it's extra important to have a banner(re-roll a duel roll within a bubble around him).

Armies will be same-y. Khazard guard, Durin, fill in the rest with shield dwarfs and a few archers for objective camping. You'll probably want a generic dwarf captain to heroic march towards objectives.

Do people play MESBG where you live? We had like a dozen guys and a couple girls, mostly great people, but everyone ghosted after Covid. I've been thinking of selling my guys except the Minas Tirith, Mordor, and a set of the Fellowship.

there are nurgle, chaos and lizardmen, all with no guard the extra guard would help vs. one guard is enough to crack a St4-5-4 tight los

but I don't think guard will help me vs the elves, I think I'd rather have the extra reroll than 2 extra guard vs elves since I'd win those games via mighty blow

As someone who was actually pretty damn good at CRP Blood Bowl but simply hasn't been arsed at all since BB17, is it worth coming back and playing?

I just see all these Spike magazines and pitch rules and zany reroll mechanics and churn and can't be arsed with it. It just feels deliberate to milk the piggies in a game that normally you were basically rulebook + team = done. I'm not poor I just don't like the churn.

Someone put it eloquently in a prior thread, but essentially the game only has momentum immediately after an announcement/release. Since there’s almost zero customization, there’s not a lot to talk about once a new faction drops (beyond the usual complaining).

Its a testament to GW’s ultimate goal of turning 40k and other “mainline studio” games into barebones, zero fat, competitive tourneyslop. They released some somewhat interesting narrative stuff for it, but never did anything more with it and it all got buried under more and more “teams” added to the game.

My issue with modern GW in general.
For example I'm still dicking around with Regimental Doctrines more than decade later. From trying to make an Inquisition army with Guard to recreating my 9th GSC army.
Meanwhile with modern 40k I'm bored out of my mind during list building and in game. It almost feels like I'm playing some card game with all the gotchas and flow chart of keywords combination, and if I wanted to play a card game I'd play that, it even has more customization to make my own deck than modern 40k armies of making your own thing.
>>
>>98568523
The game system is fun but it is definitely leaning way too hard into competitive stuff. There's a lot of stuff that would riff off campaign rules greatly but there are none to speak of. Also the fact that it's a bit of a meta chasing game doesn't help either.

Kill Team died because GW kept releasing FOMO boxes with busted to fuck rules. Of course the tourneyfags loved it.

I feel this way about necromunda now, loved the game but the latest streamlining has killed all interest in it for me, all those options gone...only for them to possibly try and sell them back to us i a few years.

I waited years hoping my preferred factions would get updates and...they just didnt or they did and then less than a year later its all obsolete. Now the cycle repeats with house gang releases for the forseeable future, then non-house, then maybe we get something new and then new edition.

I was in my mid twentie when they announced things like the eye of selene etc. and now its genuinely looking like I will hit forty before we actually see it explored.

I have never heard of that so I can’t speak for it, but I did enjoy KT2018. It had some problems but at its core it was basically Necromunda lite with 40k factions.
>>
>>98579582
>it was basically Necromunda lite with 40k factions.
No, it's a copy paste version 8th edition of 40k, a game which removed options when compared to 7th edition. You can't mix and match equipments, like making an Ork with 2 Slugga, or 2 Choppa,.... Shadow War Armageddon is Necromunda with 40k factions, Kill Team is not. Progression in Kill team 2018 also suck ass.
>>
>>98579617
Eh, you're both kinda right. KT2018 was mini-8th, but KT2004 was mini-3rd and we were big fans of it when it came out. Both had a lot more flavor and personalization than KT2021, which was more nakedly babby's first 40k game.

The original Necromunda was basically 2nd edition 40k with some 1st ed. progression thrown in. It was the best combo of game size/mechanics ever, but the mechanics weren't anything new. RT just feels so far away that we've forgotten that stuff used to be normal.

KT 2021 is not baby's first 40k game. KT 2018 is the baby's first 40k game, since it's 8th edition copy and paste. Just because list building and weapon choice is limited doesn't mean the gameplay is. While game like Necromunda has lots of step and reference tables, the gameplay is simple and straight forward : you take cover, move into range, then attack/charge. If you do that in KT 2021 you will probably lose with most of the teams against a person who can play decently. A lot of fuckers in a Kill team 2021 is a "specialists" that will do something other than just move and attack, and you need to use this to combo with your attacking specialist or your faction rule. There're choice between Exclusive equipment and universal equipment, which can be crucial like barricade to block off chokepoint, or grenades.

This is why people labeled the game as sweaty, because they expected to play the move and attack game and got matched with some dude who was doing weird jungle gym with the equipment and resolving lengthy and convoluted faction rule which sound like complete gibberish to any new players.
>>
>>98581402
>This is why people labeled the game as sweaty, because they expected to play the move and attack game and got matched with some dude who was doing weird jungle gym with the equipment and resolving lengthy and convoluted faction rule which sound like complete gibberish to any new players.
To any players with taste and a brain, you mean. Move and attack, as you dismissively try to frame it, is an abstraction of actual tactics. Your shitty "jungle gym" stuff is just trashy unthinking garbage pulled from card games; KT is a Rube-Goldberg Machine, not a wargame.
>>
>>98581571
I don't know why you feel the need to go on "defense muh honor" mode over nothing burger. I simply stated that having a baby playing Kill Team current edition would be one of the worst thing to do. And there're nothing wrong with a simple move and attack game, you know where's the fun come from these simple games right? It's not "i'm racking my brain so hard for the win right now"
>>
>>98581402
It sounds like a board game, more about finding combos than positioning. Which is fine, I guess, but not for the same crowd.
>>
>>98583353
It's "warhammer chess", GW been trying to (lazily) pushed the PVE mode in the current season so they can sell you old models, and only have to do 1 new team, but still jacked up the price to kingdom come. Ironically this PvE mode is a million times better than GW own premium PvE slop Warhammer Quest which is mind-numbingly boring, and also play more like Puzzle Quest in current edition with arbitrary time limit objective forcing you (or your co-op friends) to pick the meta characters or you just lose. PvE killteam pitch you (and your friends) against braindead enemies so you can practice combo or playing meme-ishly to your heart content.

There're also rule to create your custom character, from big dude to big robot, to be used in PvE, or PvP (no one used this shit in PvP).
>>
>>98583353
finding combos is fun. the problem is teams have set combos. theres no building and setting up. theres no cooking your own weird goofy combos
its just learn the 3 your team does and do that

Blood Bowl balance question - tournament stats assume there's no progression like in a league, right? So Lizardmen might overperform those stats in a league because Sauruses benefit a lot from a skill, while Amazons might do worse because of attrition?

My group wants to start a Sevens league and there's some debate over whether to give the new player who's done terribly in practice games an Amazon team. I think he'll quit if he keeps losing so I'm all for it. They seem pretty OP but maybe that evens out later on. Dunno.
>>
>>98584106
>They seem pretty OP but maybe that evens out later on
Literally give 1 player tackle + mighty blow and watch them crumble.
>>
>>98584106
>They seem pretty OP
Raped by any dwarf team
>>
>>98584127

I mean, for a lot of teams that just equates to give their Blitzer MB. A reasonable amount of them picked the Tackle skill up. Humans for a start. Shambling Undead for another.
Amazons are capable of almost remarkably elvish bullshit, but their low armour can make playing as them remarkably fraught. Don't get attached to any of them is my advice.
Or better yet, try High Elves, Humans or Orcs. The latter are in a REALLY good place right now.
>>
>>98584172
>>98584106

Also, picking a team that's "expected to win" is literally the worst thing you could do in these circumstances. Because what happens if he STILL keeps losing? Which can happen easily in sevens. My advice, try to get him to try one of the shitty, but actually not too bad teams.
You can build a very good Underworld team for Sevens by going Gutter - Blitzer - ROgre - LineRat - x5 Goblins. You have 2 goblins in reserve, one of the best Big Guys for reliability and speed (who's only one skill up away from Horns, although Sevens is supposed to do skill ups differently) The Blitzer is now Spd8 with Strip Ball, and the Gutter remains a Gutter (and the addition of Stab makes him only a second head away from being a really nasty cage-breaker).

And tell him not to worry about losing, as they aren't considered that great of team and it's only 7's. The game is usually over in a third of the time compared to normal Blood Bowl.
>>
>>98584106
>>98584127
IDK about 7s. Lizardmen are the most OP team in the game. Of you're playing 2025 rules Undead, humans and OWA getting tackle hurt them a lot. They were really good in 2020 rules as long as they weren't playing dorfs, chorfs or one of those teams that can consistently cage break and get stripball hits. They're still really good for like TV based matchmaking since they're so cheap but they're kind of fucked by the meta because it's so elf friendly so you see a lot of humans and OWA to counter the elves and humans and OWA can get tackle mighty blow easily and Amazons have a harder time playing down men than elves.
They play like orcs, but rely on you not getting knocked down because you have dodge

>>98584777

Yeah, but for some reason GW says they're only Tier 3 in Sevens. Also, I'm surprised they're still that high. They caught a LOT of nerfs last edition, and I never really found them all that bad in League play, but our leagues only really last 8-12 games, so maybe that's it.
My personal experience was, even when they had swarming you'd start with 13 players. By turn 3 you'd be down to 10, and hopefully the Rat Ogre would be onto his second or third 3 dice block.
>>
>>98585156
they're good but you have to not play blood bowl with them. What's fucked is a lot of the really dynamic teams like rats, UW, wood elves, pro elves play best by doing a dakka on offense, basically running all your players back to your own endzone and then breaking through on turn 4 or 5 to score on turn 8 and then basically just not playing defense at all, running away, conceding the half and then winning on a OTTD or overtime. Like even with maxing MA at 9 there are still a bunch of teams that play best by not playing defense and one turning and you need to know how to one turn to get the most out of them. maybe 7s is different because it's harder to one turn with fewer players.
especially if you don't play overtime. Like orcs are based, but playing as orcs, since the ttm goblin is so bad, I have to basically remove everyone or bog you down to turn you over on defense and don't have as much agency unless it's an overtime format where I can 8 turn drive, beat you up and then win in OT. whereas underworld, rats and elves can basically force a tie by dakkaing and then turn a tie into a win with a relatively high one turn conversion rate

Been having fun playing Sevens with my Norse team but I want to try something new. Can’t decide between low risk Amazons or going with some goofy shit like Ogres or Halflings. Nobody in my playgroup plays any of them so it would be a change up either way. Is it worth doing a riskier team? I dont necessarily mind fighting for the uphill wins as long as it’s at least fun making the attempt.
>>
>>98587948
I think Ogres and Halflings suffer too much in Sevens to even be fun. Goblins, sure, they're cool, and some of the other teams that have a few goblins can be fun too. Like Black Orcs. If that's too much risk for you, try Lizardmen, they're like Black Orcs (strong blockers, stunty linemen) but with a lot more movement.

Amazons are arguably OP, but I don't know if they'd feel different enough from Norse to be interesting. They're both glass cannon-y.

I thought Sevens would suit Lizardmen really well, but look at NAF tournament stats. Amazons have a 64% win percentage in Sevens this year (second to Slann, if they even count), and Lizardmen are at 48%. The Skinks have stunty and dodge, but there are usually only three of them that you have to deal with. Sauruses can't be trusted to pick up the ball.

Lizardmen do better in leagues when they can start getting Block on their Sauruses, and Amazons do worse in leagues because they have to spend more on replacing dead players than a lot of other teams.

Just got back from a game of nu-munda. What a shitshow. No bottle tests and zero lethality on everything ensures the game never fucking ends. That’s kind of where I’m at on Amazons. Don’t know if it would be enough of a change of format. I just want to paint some new skin tones and I don’t paint a lot of female figures generally so I like the practice. But I think I’d get more enjoyment out of trying to make Halflings or Ogres work. There are bottle checks, but they only result in individuals running away. I've seen games snowball away from a player once they failed one. Bearfoot Miniatures on YouTube has a rundown of the current Orlocks. He's a little negative on how they're written, but all the gangs will get some of their flavor back when they get their journals.

If you can't find written lore, The Underhive Lorekeepers Podcast has long episodes about each gang's fluff. Ep. 25 or so for Orlocks.

Boxes... yeah, Arm Masters & Wreckers. Mostly for the Wreckers (prospects with jump packs). That'll give you enough bodies for a full campaign. Probably also enough to convert any hangers-on you might want (you can live without them, though). The box could've included a wider variety of weapons, imo, but it's hard to justify the cost of the weapon upgrade sprue.

Every gang will eventually get a champions/leader box with fancy weapons. If you still need more gear by then, get that box.

FW made a few resin Orlock minis. They had a blister with a champion and two gangers that was popular just because they were all female, and pretty well-sculpted for once.

Orlock always gets the upgrade kit first. It's the best upgrade kit in the game. Then Arm masters and Wreckers.

That was the point. A lot of necromunda missions don't have a turn limit. Bottle checks were to end the game in a timely fashion.

>now we're getting more use out of cheap melee gangers than before.
Cheap to midrange melee definitely needed to get better but the way we got to it was not great. I feel like this came at the expense of all this game's identity. Same with heresy 3.0, GW has a recent record of fixing the last edition's problems in the most destructive way possible.

Excited to try the new edition next game.

Youve never even played it, that's a pathetic horizontal board without even half the terrain it should have.

You retired a completed game to play a super early access game? Only thing I can see from this is your buddy gonna have a full Escher gang against your early access Cawdor.

We won’t be playing with the journals until both of us have them at least.

Like the other guy said. Standard for 750ish is Durin with 16+ Hearthguard (upgraded Khazad Guard in Durins warband only that gives them burly) Then fill the rest of your army with shielded dwarf warriors and dwarf rangers with bows led by kings or captains to taste.

Good taste btw I love the Khazad-Dum sculpts too.

NTA but if you recognize the game is incredibly incomplete and not yet ready to play properly, why would you decide to pack up your finished game to swap it out for it?

Your buddy would still be enjoy playing with new miniatures and new weapons while your Cawdor stuck with EIGHTY mundabux polebuss, no greatsword until GW finally decide to released the rules that they held hostages as future products.

I’m not sure whats so strange. A new edition came out, I at least want to give it a shot. From what I’ve read already its fixed a few of the grievances I had with N17, mainly on the campaign level.

I played Cawdor back in N17 GoTU days, when they sucked utter balls. I play Cawdor because I like them, not because they’re really good.
