>>98535517>TQDon't know, don't care. WotC doesn't run my game.
>>98535517>TQTieflings are already in Dark Sun. I'm currently playing one lol
>>98535537>implying OP knows about 4e
>>98535517I'm not sure. I'd like to play a Dragonborn Artificer, myself. Would you guys let me do that if I was a player in your campaign?
>>98535552Sure, but you'd have to be a child of Nibenay, the biggest fuckboi on Athas. And yes, you would have mommy issues.
Don't Tieflings already exist in Dark Sun with the slop that was 4e? Because of freakshits, they made them available and excused their anachronistic appearance (Because Athas cannot access the Outer Planes) as le mutant humans. They even massacred the cool race that was the Dray and turned them into "NOTDRAGONBORN" for scaleyfags.
>>98535562Verily, any post-2e Dark Sun isn't the real thing
>>98535517>TQThey just will and won't even bother trying to justify it
>>98535558Actually, I was hoping you'd be okay with me being female. Also, I'd like to have digitigrade legs, if that's alright with you. I do not wish to wear shoes. I wish to embrace the warm sand with my toes while pondering my Rope of Climbing.
Beyond all the main stuff people already mentioned a harsh desert setting is just going to further highlight how fucking retarded spells like goodberry and create water are
>>98535579Good thing those spells aren't in Dark Sun.
>>98535579You actually you haven't access to them, apparently. Many of the survivalist-sidestepping capabilities in the baseline PHB are being tuned, or even simply made unavailable.
>>98535566As it is with Dark Sun, so it is with Ravenloft.
>>98535573I don't care. You'll drop the game after 3 sessions, play whatever the fuck you want.
>>98535551>>98535562I didn't read 4e Dark Sun. I find 4e is best forgotten entirely.
>>98535583>>98535584Source? I straight up do not trust Wotc to put it's foot down and say "no, you can't use those options here" because of their retarded anything goes anywhere all the time philosophy
>>98535593You probably should. A lot of the shit people bitch about in 5e is either a direct evolution of or response to something in 4e.
>>98535591Jesus, are your games usually that brutal? Am I not allowed to make a new character when I die? I won't leave unless you ask me to.
>>98535596I played 4e, it wasn't for me. They fucked up the math so combats took literal hours.
>>98535595They weren't any of the previous editions of Dark Sun, therefore they aren't in Dark Sun until the new book drops. And even then I guarantee you there will be a blurb at the beginning of the book telling retards to cut those spells for harsher survival.
>>98535562that image is pretty cool
How strict are most tables about inventory concerns? I know that virtually nobody runs spellcasting RAW. I genuinely felt insane when I pulled my DM aside after our session and asked him why he wasn't enforcing spellcasting components or equipment proficiencies, and she looked at me like I was genuinely a retard. This girl and her sister were playing a Sorcerer and a Bard and both were using shields and weapons, just casting V, S, M spells with impunity.
>>985356154e had some good art
>>98535621>How strict are most tables about inventory concerns?99% of them will prefer handwaving it away instead of keeping track cause it can be a lot, but that's not an excuse for not fucking bothering with spellcasting components
>>98535621That's when you play a wizard with two levels in fighter.
How are dragonborn supposed to work in Dark Sun, early stages of the transformation?
>>985356454E turned the Dragonborn into reflavored Dray
>>98535645If one of my players were genuinely interested in playing on I would tell them something similar to >>98535558. There are avenues to playing a dragon person on Athas without just filing the serial number off another race, but they would be absolutely hated and feared. I know the players in my group would fine with the roleplay aspects, but I have no faith in anyone else outside of our group.
>>98535621Equipment proficienies are 100% enforced. Components are handwaved in-game by arcane focuses, and I do try to track that you have one in one hand and a free hand for somatics.
>>98535517Zamn, tieflings look like THAT?
>>98535645This >>98535653 is the most likely, though I think it'd be better to make them ssuran, at least in terms of viability as a PC race.Dray are pretty limited in terms of being the weird mutant pet project of a sorcerer king, while Ssurran are just nomadic lizard people.Just give the dragonborn Fire resistance and a psychic-damage breath weapon and you can more easily say that they're desert-dwelling lizardfolk that channel their psionics into a blast of raw energy.
>>98535626It truly was a different time...
>>98535517This is why you don't have sex with a succubus.Succubus ===> Cambion ====> Tiefling
>>98536013For all of the 4e-isms that it added to Dark Sun, I think it's still going to end up as less of a butchering than 5.5e.
>>98535621I rule that S only spells can be performed with a hand holding a spell focus, while RAW that can only be done with with an SM spells. Other than that, components and armour proficiencies are all observed. Why wouldn't they be? They're a significant part of spell and especially class design.>Sorcerer and a BardDid they have proficiency/training in shields at all?
Party needs passage into a sort of hidden spirit zone, what's an interesting enough roadblock to entry? figure out how to get inside help? recover some relevant artifact? complete a ritual? all of the above? I'm not usually the type to write this sort of thing but it sounds like a fun extra hurdle to add to the process
>“You don't have to have slavery in a setting if in order for it to be oppressive,” Bilsland emphasized. “There are other forms of oppression out there.” Dark Sun confirmed ruined
>>98536438My first instinct would be to have a 'key' in the form of a specific magical artifact, but also by extension treat the entrance as a locked door, in that there's a way to get it open without the key.A ritual is the best analogue there, but I'd have it be a situation where the ritual itself involves gathering some other more generic items that fit certain categories.First one that comes to mind is the old wedding rhyme. Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. Fairly vague in terms of items, but specific enough that a party might need to go hunting for some of them. Probably better to come up with a list that's more thematically relevant to the realm in question, but it gives the party options. Either they hunt down some specific magical relic, or they partake in a bit of a scavenger hunt and hope that whatever they find fits the criteria. For an added wrinkle, you could make it so conducting the ritual might cause a fight with an angry spirit, in order to represent that the key would have been the 'safe' way to open it, but that's less critical.
>>98536507I think this is a great balance, much appreciated. Definitely looking forward to seeing how it all comes together
How awful is the formatting for my homebrew bestiary? Should I just use Homebrewery instead? I want to share it on DMsGuild when it's done. I know the art sucks but it's the best I have right now.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/2225-welcome-to-thay-a-travelers-guide-to-the-red
>>98536608Not terrible. What I don't understand however is why you aren't enforcing your guiding lines more strictly (if they are guiding lines and not part of the layout. The spacing of the two images for example is not consistent and the statblock on the right side of the left page is peaking over the border line to the right. The art is fine.Nitpicks:- The horizontal margins on the stats blocks could be bigger.- Some people would criticize that a colored background or background with image makes reading more difficult and could be fatiguing. I find it very charming, so I won't criticize you for that.If you haven't already create a master page with guiding lines before creating more pages.>Should I just use Homebrewery instead? Not necessary in my opinion
>>98536532My friend, Legacies are a racial trait. It even mentions how “it is like a subrace” in the sense that you pick one and gain only the appropriate traits. It is essentially Variant Human, but instead of a Free Feat, your teacher/ancestor was a lvl 20 Character and he thought you some tricks related to his class. You also aren’t forced to take the same class as your Legacy, but like Roy Greenhilt, your peers are gonna get pretty angry if the son of a Wizard becomes a Fighter. Some scale, some don’t, because the entire point is that no two Legacies are exactly the same. All function differently
>>98536038Seeing dragonborns described as actually having something going on about them is almost uncanny given how they're presented nowadaysActually, what the fuck is the current dragonborn lore even supposed to be?
>>98536798Vaguely related to dragons. That's about it.
>>98536798It went from humans rebirth from dragons, to drops of blood becoming soldiers during Bahamut and Tiamat’s first battle, to a type of lizard-like humanoid that is related to dragons, but not genetically like Half-Dragons and Kobolds are
>>98536492I actually don't get it.I mean, you don't usually play as slavers. They're the bad guys, the slavers are there to be killed and rebelled against. So why remove them? Will they slowly remove every bad guys from the games so everybody is nice and at peace? Will they eventually remove combat completely?
My friends want me to host a short campaign for them but I don't have the energy to spare for a second campaign with an actual story focus. How can I trick these BG3 dudes into just venturing into the underground mouse maze so I don't have to draw maps?
>>98537229The people making the books hyperventilate the second they hear the word "slavery"
>>98537231Just go grab a pre-made campaign or string a few dungeons together. Tales from the Yawning Portal has plenty of random dungeons that will fill enough sessions.
>>98537238Thanks.
>>98537237>But Bilsland insisted that the D&D team is taking the subject seriously. The content is being reviewed by sensitivity readers, Bilsland said. “In fact, we invested more deeply in [sensitivity readers] for Dark Sun, knowing the challenges it faces.”So there are people being paid to read things and get offended, and like they rate how offended they are on corporation certified chart so the lawyers can remove content? It's almost fascinating.
>>98535517Oh my Heckin Science! i can't wait for wotc to kick the CHUDS out of dark sun! my players are going to assassinate Charlie Kalak and Borys Trump of Aeb, and make Tyr Qyr!
>>98537238>>98537242I can also recommend Tales from the Yawning Portal. The book has a 5e conversion for Sunless Citadel, the dungeon itself is a modern classic and has the opportunity for a lot of roleplaying. It is also close to Neverwinter, a city that was teased in Baldur's Gate 3, but never visited. I would recommend setting the adventure right after the spell plaque while the city is still in disarray as it makes for a very engaging backdrop with a lot of interesting opportunities and characters. Castle Never also makes for an excellent dungeon for to visit after the Sunless Citadel. For the city description there is this excellent resource: https://inchoatethoughts.com/files/neverwinter/guide-to-neverwinter.pdf
>>98535621Material components for most spells are covered by a components pouch or focus, which 99% of players have from starting gear. For spells where specific material components are needed if your DM isn't enforcing that then they're a retard because letting the players have something like revivify for free is stupid.Letting your players run a shield while casting spells without making sure they've got a free hand for somatic components is also a clear sign of a retard DM, but I very rarely see players running that kind of shit on a spellcaster because most of them want to play up the wizard shit anyway, to the point that they won't even carry a weapon as a backup even though they could/should. It just sounds like you're at a table with a bunch of retards run by a retard.
>>98537231I'm doing a campaign by taking some adventures from Candlekeep Mysteries and Keys from the Golden Vault and just linking them together.
>>98537229Modern xittertrannies literally cannot separate the concept of a fictional bad thing existing in a setting from the creators endorsing said bad thing, they are retarded. It really is that simple.
>>98537300People don't chant "Death to America" for nothing, you know.
>>98537352It's so ridiculous. It's like thinking George Lucas approves of blowing up planets because they did it in A New Hope. It established the Empire as terrible people, just like slavery and literally destroying the ecosystem does for the Sorcerer Kings. It's just so fucking retarded! Nobody is in support of slavery by having it something the literal evil aligned people do! What the fuck is going on do they not understand there is literal good and evil in D&D?!
Everyone knows that Borys achieved his ascension through the volontary sacrifice of a thousand paid, unionized workers you damn chuds.
>>98537361They're the same retards who complained that characters said nigger a lot in Django Unchained.
>>98535621I like inventory tracking and weight management because it tickles my autism in a funny way but I don't begrudge other players who don't. As for spellcasting I don't bother too much with material components unless they are in a situation such as a prison where they don't have access to spell foci or a spell component pouch or if it has a material cost that gets used up like in the Revivify spell.
>>98535626>>98535562Dark Sun dragons are so disgusting I hate even looking at them. I want them all to die.
>>98537508That is the entire plot of a dark sun campaign, anon. Congratulations, you have been accepted into the party
>>98537508The thing with Dark Sun dragons is that that aren't dragons, but dragons in """transition""", which is why they look all scraggly looking because they aren't fully dragons yet. Massively powerful wizard/sorcerers who have suction off a lot of power (defilement) decide to strip their vessel and turn into something even more powerful, and its a long and arduous process requiring a lot of needs and which either kills the faggot performing it, or becomes too painful that the cast doesn't bother leaving them half beast. To put it into perspective, only one sorcerer was able to become a dragon and he was the most powerful one of them all.At least trannies can identify and sympathize with chud sorcerers they hate so much.
>>98537943One sorcerer *king
>>98537300The part that gets me is doing all that for what is supposedly an 18+ book. The whole thing is already being advertised as adults-only, but they still have to hire people to make sure it's family friendly anyway.

That would look neater, definitely.
>>98536671Also do you think the dark red text is worth the effort of having to manually select everything and change it? I am currently copying and pasting plaintext stat blocks for around 50 plant monsters into the different parts of the stat block table wholesale, instead of pasting the stat into each row and preserving the "Armor Class", "Hit Points" etc that were in red text

>>98539589NTA but if a PC has a component pouch or a focus, you don't need to be fussy about making sure you have the exact components. That said, one time our group had to break out of captivity and of course we didn't have access to our usual equipment. I must admit it was fun reviewing what spells I had access to and what the material components were and trying to find ways to scavenge those components out of household items. For instance, I broke some furniture to get a nail (a "small, straight piece of iron") for Hold Person, which came in handy for paralysing a guard.
>>98538902>psion confirmed a spellcastercan't these boring cunts experiment even a little
>>98539743>NTA but if a PC has a component pouch or a focus, you don't need to be fussy about making sure you have the exact components. That's what I'm getting at though, anon described literally verbatim the way you're supposed to treat material components, which is "if they've got a component pouch or a focus, it's fine except in pretty specific circumstances"He basically said he doesn't bother with material components, he just follows the rules for material components, just a really weird statement.
>>98539859>complaining about Tasha's
Does anyone else think about their characters' potential epilogue for when the campaign is completed?
>>98540752My PC is almost guaranteed to die in the final fight, so no.
>>98540752I often have ideas for what a resolution to a specific aspect of their story might be, but I'm always open for this to change over the game based on growth or new developments, or for it to simply play out differently than I'd assumed.
Magma dungeon for l4 PCs, natural caves where one area was converted to essentially a small gas power station with natural vents of some magic mineral, but it's now inaccessible as due to magic disturbance some time after it was last used there are collapsed tunnels, diverted lava flows that have now swallowed up pathways again, etc. Mix of natural obstacles and hazards, machinery to reactivate, native elemental creatures to attack. What are some navigation challenges, mechanisms to control stuff, encounters other than "mephit attack" or "lava elemental I stole from BG3 I mean homebrewed" I can use to flesh out this concept?
>>98540911Just to clarify, is the power generation geothermal, or was it moreso chemical? Siphoning up that specific mineral that was in whatever volcanic fumes were going on.The former might have some potential mechanisms for sluiceways and pumps designed to funnel the magma around, which could serve as a way to let the party cut off certain flows to open up passages. The latter could likewise involve clearing a room of toxic fumes through similar pumps, though more interesting would probably be some sort of drill or digging mechanism. Maybe something on minecart tracks that limits where the players can reasonably transport it (with it being very heavy otherwise) and if the drill itself uses that magical mineral for power, then it can also be a factor of harvesting materials if they want to use the drill to cut through some walls to make shortcuts, or perhaps dig a tunnel downward in order to drain lava out of an area.As for monsters, basically anything immune to Fire is easily justified. Firenewts if you want a weak tribe of monsters that could be negotiated with. Imps, Devils, and Hellhounds if you want the tunneling to have hit something dark/sinister/cursed. Azers or Salamanders could be good candidates if you want a grumpy blacksmith to help explain some of the machinery or give the PCs some advice. And of course a Red Dragon trying to claim the place as a lair could work out.A Flail Snail could also be a bit of a curveball there, as they're not usually thought of as fire elementals, but are still immune. Also fitting would probably be something that's feeding off of the magic in the vents. That could be something simple like oozes, but various aberrations or monstrosities might also fit the bill. Maybe even Fey, if you want to go for a bigger contrast. There's some parallels there with a Hag in a foggy swamp versus one in a misty cavern.
>>98541011These are some cool ideas, thanks! I was definitely thinking more sluiceways, and geothermal energy fits the bill. The setting is the feywild – the setup is (was) just that an NPC has gone missing and disappeared into magma tunnels below a theatre with some whimsical shit going on. This coincides with some weirdness with the domain's leylines that is preventing them from returning to their home plane(s), which the PCs have come here to investigate. I'm working back from that concept.I had the idea of the whole place existing for stage pyrotechnics, with channels for a flammable gas up to mechanisms in the understage area, but I think it's cooler if the theatre people set this up in what was originally an old disused geothermal power plant. Multiple layers of history and all that, and it makes sense why there's enough dungeon for a proper adventuring day for a L4 party.
>>98539887Ah yes because nobody ever complains about old books https://archive.4plebs.org/tg/thread/98203207/#98203207
>>98541122In that context, it seems like having a Hag lurking down there with a cauldron of lava isn't quite as far-fetched. And I'm also even more confident in the proposal of a Flail-Snail, as that's whimsical enough for the feywild while still being immune to any lava. Though I'd also say you'd want to double-down on mephits. Mephits are the exact sort of tricky pranksters that I'd expect in some lava caves in the feywild. If it is a theater, then that gives you plenty of excuses for lifts and trapdoors connecting various sublevels. Mining equipment would be more out of place, but simply having levers and pumps designed to direct the flow of lava down one channel or another can still let you do a lot in terms of opening up areas. And if you did still want to toss in a dragon, an Emerald would fit the bill rather well. Immune to fire, burrows through rock, good with illusions, enjoys observing. Abandoned fiery theater is checking a lot of boxes there.
>>98541122Oh, I'm definitely looking forward to the warlock in particular encountering a flail snail; that's a great suggestion.
>>98539859Experimentation means having to do actual rigorous design work instead of just using existing systems and saying "you cast [existing spell]" or "you add [x] to your range/damage". There's clearly standardization at play, given how they standardized language on a lot of abilities and removed flavor on a lot of abilities. Making a whole new class would go against that.
>>98539859They have to actually care about their job to experiment
>>98539589>>98539870Let me put it this way, I'm not going to check your character sheet if you have bat guano when casting a fireball. I will check your character sheet for a 1000 gold worth diamond if you're casting Resurrect.
>>98542901Yes, again, that's just the normal way to run things.
>>98542901Those are literally the rules for material components.
>>98542901yes, because the guano is not consumed by the spell, so as long as you have an arcane focus or a component pouch, you good. But Resurrect does consume the diamond, hence why it mentions the price and expects you (player, DM) to keep tract of it.

>>98535593Martial Powers actually make martials good though.
How the fuck are you supposed to come up with an interesting Wizard character? Their entire flavor is "Magic Nerd". They use the worst stat in 5e, INT, as their casting stat. Their subclasses are all either mid as fuck or hilariously broken to the point they'll annoy the GM and everyone else at the table. I want to genuinely give full casters another shot in 5e/2024 since the last one I played had baggage from the character himself and I started playing him at the wrong point in a campaign which led to my choice of spells being mostly useless against anything we fought, and generally speaking unlike Martials, you can't really play a thematic caster. You have to pick the "good spells" or otherwise there are certain archetypes (i.e. a cryomancer) which are just unsupported due to a lack of spells that fit the theme. My current character is a Silver Dragonborn Redemption Paladin of Bahamut, and I've mostly just been playing him as a martial. I also have a history of playing martials in not just 5e/2024 but also other TTRPGs (or otherwise if the TTRPG is classless playing something that's basically a melee beatstick). But if something happens to this character, or someone else in my usual groups runs 2024, I want to play a wizard and I want to give casters a proper fair shake. I just keep running into the wall of "how do I make this fun for me?" and my answer usually becomes "Play a bladesinger and be a better Eldritch Knight" or "Play a sorcerer because they have cooler flavor".Is there somewhere I could look to for inspiration on what makes a fun, cool D&D wizard? Older edition flavor text, some sort of side media or something?

I need to make a dungeon but I’m struggling for ideas. It’s an undead dungeon where they think there will be a lich. It’s actually just a pyramid in the traditional sense, it’s a tomb, the lich died 3k years prior. The whole area is still infested with undead. Any ideas for some non combat encounters? I have a bit of a scavenger hunt for ingredients to summon a succubus if they decide to (they need a demon horn for a spell reagent so could negotiate for one). There are magic obelisks at the junction of each level I’ve been having do stuff. Might make one make shadow versions of the party but only with cantrips and no other special abilities.Anyone got other ideas?
Zhentarim Ruffian + Alert is a pretty powerful combination, ngl, especially if you’re a Human with an extra Origin feat + a steady supply of Heroic Inspiration. You can turn a medium- or hard-difficulty encounter into a piece of cake while making sure your teammates don’t burn through important resources. Noodly rules question that probably doesn't have an answer other than the pragmatic "the spells do what they say they do" but if I'm in a tunnel and I cast Silence so that it fills a portion of the tunnel, would it muffle the sound of a confrontation from people on the other side of the silence bubble even if both are technically outside of the spell? Like would it "dampen" the noise? Here's a diagram if my wording doesn't make sense.Scuffle (Silence bubble) People I don't want alerted
>>98549500>For the duration, no sound can be created within OR PASS THROUGH a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on a point you choose within range.Sounds cannot pass through it. If you're in a tunnel and a silence spell fills the entire tunnel section to block it, nobody on opposite sides of the effect hear each other. If you fill only part of the tunnel such that there is a gap then sound travels normally or is altered such that it passes only through the narrow gap.
>>98547757I have yet to see anyone make an argument as to why the Psion isn't satisfactory other than "IT ISNT LE EXPERIMENTAL/DIFFERENT ENOUGH", nor have I ever seen anyone make an argument as to what would make for a good psion mechanically, so you fags just want magic that isn't technically magic so you can powergame.
>>98549600I just skimmed the UA Psion. Its not terrible, but there's nothing about it that makes me want to play it. I preferred the Pathfinder 1E Psion and laserllama's take on the class for 5e (where its basically Warlocks But Good).
>>98549600>or have I ever seen anyone make an argument as to what would make for a good psion mechanicallyThe Mystic, but with another two or three balance passes.>you fags just want magic that isn't technically magic so you can powergame. You repeating that over and over doesn't make it true. Nobody has said that psionics shouldn't be stopped by all the same things that stop magic. The point isn't for it to be "magic that isn't technically magic", the point is for it to not do the exact same things as magic and for the use mechanics to be different.
>>98535517>New D&D campaign starting soon.>One of the players invited 3 friends.>All the newbies and one other player chose warlock for some goddamn reason.>Now the party is 4 warlocks, a cleric (me), and a monk.>TFW the DM also said he'd give the newbies a "welcome" by making a lethal first session and told us to prep backup characters.Next session is gonna be a complete jungle, right?
>>98549600>I have yet to see anyone make an argument as to why the Psion isn't satisfactory other than "IT ISNT LE EXPERIMENTAL/DIFFERENT ENOUGH"Psionics not being magic is the entire point of psionics existing. It being represented as just magic is a valid criticism, no matter how much you try to pretend otherwise. Fighter being a spellcasting class would be just as stupid, for exactly the same reasons.
>>98549600Psions aren't experimental, they just need to copy 3.5 like they've been doing from the start.>Power points instead of slots>Limit to how many power points you can use to "level up" a single power. They literally have the ability to upcast already it's the easiest fucking rule to add HOLY SHIT>Psion spell list like in 3.5, just fucking copy it like they did with everything elseThere, done. So fucking easy to make a psion that feels like a psion and not a fucking wizard. You stupid FUCKING CUNT YOU STUPID FUCKING FUCKING CUNT FUCK YOU AND FUCK WOTC
>>98550296So it's just a spellcaster with the spell points variant rule, meaning it's literally the same shit as a Wizard.
>>98550105>>98549959Balance > Flavor. Every ability that works against spell saves would have to be errata'd to work vs psionics. It having a different mechanic that's just a copy of an existing variant rule for 5e doesn't make it interesting, it just makes it pointlessly convoluted. You're all a bunch of whiny babies.
>>98550357>So it's just a spellcaster with the spell points variant ruleIf you can't see how power points and the ability to upcast past your usual level limit changes the dynamic of a spellcaster I'm not wasting anymore time on you.
>Want to have a scene where the kraken demolishes a port by throwing ships at it, like the Beast Titan destroys a city by throwing rocksIs it even plausible? FIrst of all, how hard do you need to throw something to wreck houses? Secondly, can someone with no bones or joints even throw stuff this hard?
>>98550515yeah sure who cares
>>98550366NTA, but that's never been how the Psion worked. Even in 3.5, you were still limited by level in terms of how many points you could pour into a power. People who tried to dump all their points for the day in order to supercharge an ability were just reading the rules wrong. It is, in fact, exactly like how the Spell Points variant works in 5e.
>>98535621>I know that virtually nobody runs spellcasting RAWIt is in fact extremely common to run spellcasting completely RAW, you just need to not be a complete fucking mongoloid and ACTUALLY read the fucking rules to know that having a spell focus or component pouch completely obviates the need for any non-costed material components. A huge amount of spells don't even have material components to begin with so even during the extremely uncommon circumstance where you're stripped naked and thrown in a prison to escape like the start of a Bethesda game, you can still use plenty of spells like firebolt, shield and misty step to fight your way out. People who think running spells RAW means going to the market square and individually buying single-use packets of bat guano like stocking up on ammunition in a Resident Evil game are the ones with no clue who haven't actually read the fucking book
>>98550515A Kraken might not be big enough to throw a proper ship. Going by the statblock, it's large or smaller objects/creatures it can throw. That could still easily be ship masts, cannons, the crew, and so forth, but boats are pretty massive.Which is still probably plenty to destroy a house, since that's easily a boulder bigger than what a trebuchet would be lobbing. Might not have as much raw power, but unless it was a castle or something else properly fortified, a building isn't likely to stand up to that sort of bombardment. If you scale up the Kraken to the point where it's throwing even small fishing boats around, that gets even easier. Plus failing all that, it still has lightning and weather control it could use if it really needs to wipe out an entire city.
>>98550061Just bring John Fighter and have your real character as a backup.
>>98547144To add to this: Human Warlock level 5 + Musician + Alert + Zhentarim Ruffian + Purple Dragon Rook + Cult of the Dragon Initiate + Undead Patron (Level 3: Form of Dread). With this, you're basically giving the entire party advantage on initiative twice per short rest. Very strongThe only, and pretty major, problem with this Warlock build is that it doesn't really have a big control spell that can still affect enemies after they fail a save, like Web or Entangle. So it has to rely on having a Druid, Sorcerer or Wizard in the party who also has Alert. That way, you further increase the chances of starting the fight with an important spell
>>98535579>game about forcing players to expend resources>players have a resource that is very useful in a specific environment>criteria of the environment is determined by a game masterWhat is the issue here? Neither of those are cantrips, can you not just engineer scenarios where your players have to choose between being set for food and drink for a day or having 2 extra spell slots?
>>98550746Honestly, the more I think about it... Purple Dragon Rook is a bit unnecessary here. Since Cult of the Dragon Initiate already gives you Heroic Inspiration once per Short Rest, you could replace it with Magic Initiate (Druid) and pick up Entangle. That would leave the only real issue being that the warlock has very few spell slots, although they recharge on a short rest.
>>98547404KEK
>>98550515A large resilient object has 27 HP. Most houses are bigger, but they are just made from multiple large-sized sections mechanically. Extrapolating from the object HP table suggests a huge object would have 6d12, or 38 HP.A kraken's Fling does 1d6 damage per 60' of distance, up to 6d6, or 21 damage on average, but with the Siege Monster, Kraken does double damage to objects, so 42.5e kraken shouldn't have much problems destroying huge and smaller building by throwing things, but entire ships are too big to throw. It can also use Lightning Storm for similar purpose, hitting 3 buildings for 44 damage each at double the range of Fling.5.5 kraken can only throw creatures, not objects, only does 4d8 (18, doubled to 36) damage per throw, and can't target objects with Lightning Strike. It can also only use Lightning Strike or Fling once per turn.
The truth is that psychic powers have no place in the kind of medieval fantasy most players want out of D&D - save only as a mechanism of wannabe-Lovecraft shit like Aberrations.
>>98551120That's probably why they waited until the Dark Sun book to introduce it, since Dark Sun did originally try and break away from some of the typical elements of a D&D setting.I expect it to end up as the same level of quality as everything else they're doing with updating Dark Sun though.

>>98549742Here's one.>psionics don't use a direct resource, but rely on thermal flux>each power generates a level of flux directly to their nervous system>using too many powers too fast or straining one power too far leads to flux overflow>the further your character goes beyond their safe limit, the more damage and adverse effects they suffer>include a "mishap table" for unintended consequences of pushing flux too far from hitpoint damage, to unconsciousness, extreme ones such as permanent attribute loss>psionics may perform incredible things other classes simply cannot keep up with short term>but in a battle of attrition, they risk burning themselves out if pushed too farI'm imagining a class that really likes INT and CON. Leveling up provides a deeper flux pool and access to new powers that are picked from a list and you always have access to them like a sorcerer without spell slots.

>>98554273>>98552905A character's Speed/10 is their walking speed in miles per hour per the rulebook. You can cross reference Third Edition's running rules to find a character's full sprinting/narrative speed is their Speed/2. So a Speed of 100 character is running 50 MPH though in map distance its 100-200 feet. If you have bonus action dashing you can reach total speed by taking the full turn movement and instead dividing by 4. So if you move 300 feet in one turn with a Dash and Step of the Wind, in narrative real life terms you are moving 75 MPH. This is of course only your sprinting speed, for cross country you're moving about 10 miles per hour or 80 per day without a forced march. If you do a fast pace you multiple speed by a third, so that's 13 miles per hour or 104 miles in a day.Though frankly high level characters and large flyers should be capable of more than a walking pace while traveling [RAW a dragon can travel only 64-72 miles in a day when a fucking duck IRL travels around 400. And that's not a size thing, the pterasaur queztecoatlus also had an estimated flight range about that far]. So travel speed rules need some tweaking at the high end, but if you want to know how fast to visualize your Monk going just taking his total Speed, multiply by 3 for Double Dashing with SotW and then divide by 4. My speed 50 monk runs 37.5 MPH.

>>98550105Let's be real. The powers from 3.5 were just reflavored wizard spells at the end of the day. I think psionic dice is probably one of the few good things to ever come out of 5e as it allows for psionic flavors to exist without having to make a whole new list of the same shit with a different coat of paint. Then again. I'm very much in the camp that psionics isn't different/seperate from regular magic. Now if you truely wanted to make something different, you'd invest in making the different classes approach spellcasting different. Explain to me why the Sorcerer casts spells in the exact same way as a Wizard barring the need to "prepare" spells in advance?
>>98555006Wizards should go back to proper Vancian casting, with specific spells prepared in each slot.Sorcerers should use spell pointsClerics should use Pact Magic. "Can only bother the boss few times per rest + divine magic always coming at the maximum possible power" makes more sense flavor-wise.Warlocks, more focus on rituals and Invocations than casting?Bards should go back to being half-casters, let them do more with Bardic Performance to compensateDruids, I'm not sure about. I'd love them to be more dependant on the environment they are currently in when it comes to what they can do.
>>98555145>WizardsBeing able to play around with your spell slots seems like an appropriate wizard thing to do spending a spell slot directly to do stuff as opposed to just putting a spell there.>SorcerersI like the idea of spell points and would even go as far as to make it a main mechanic for all magical beast. it makes sense to me that them using their natural magic in such a way would be emulated by a class that uses more natural magic.>WarlocksMega Merge with 3.5 Binder. The more access to higher magic you get to more aspect of your patron you physically take on that can cause its own problems.>BardsAgreed, put more emphasis on bardic Performance.>DruidsAs a fan of incarnum, I think the Totemist would make a good base for Druid.
>>98555171>ClericI suppose if we have to keep with the Domain as the defining feature of the cleric's connection to divinity then pestering your god/source for magic is also good. I would make something like "Devotion Points" where you can do things in alignment with your Domain that you can exchange for higher level spells. The more difficult the task the better/more spell uses you receive. Also, it goes without saying, these identities should be solid enough for classes that mix their flavors. A cleric who worships a god of magic would obviously use vancian spell slots. Certain Barbarian subs might look more like Sorcerers and use spell points. etc, etc

>>98556200That's a pretty good feat. But the difference is the change for this magic item is permanent- not one free cast per day. It basically circumvent the leveling up decision of choosing spells for sorcerers. With the downtime had, it basically changes them to be learned spellcasters like Druids or Clerics. The sorcerer would be just a better wizard if they used it daily. Id think it's a conscious choice if it also wasn't a player that still runs in to stab people with a shortsword +1 at level 15 with all spell slots. Fun player having fun. But the power gamer in me dies a little knowing they'd be twice as effective is they even casted a cantrip.
>>98558648I don't even think that's the powergamer in you based on that description, there's something deeply frustrating about watching a player clearly have no idea how to play their own character. It's one thing to just forget a character feature occasionally, or not bother working out the absolute optimal action economy for your build or whatever, but for the love of god, remember your core features exist.Had a player in a game I was in who was running a rogue paladin, never cast any spells, never used cunning actions, had to constantly be reminded she could do things to get advantage so she could apply sneak attack, had to be basically bullied into ever applying smite, even when rolling a crit against boss enemies, etc.

Do you guys know some homebrew that makes casters more asymmetric? As it is, only Warlock is using a unique form of magic, everyone else is the same, even Sorcerer.here's an example for Artificer: Artificer is supposed to use inventions to cast spells, but you wouldn't notice. The amount of spells known and how that scales stays the same, but instead of spell slots, they have a number of "Inventions" equal to twice your Artificer Level. During a Long Rest, your skill as an Artificer lets you make that many Inventions and infuse them with magic. A level 5 Artificer can make 10 Inventions and his Inventions can at most carry a spell of 2nd level. Nothing is stopping the Artificer from all 10 Inventions carry 2nd level spells. But the Inventions are physical objects he needs to physically hold and carry. He can be disarmed of them and they can be destroyed. When the Artificer uses a Invention, it is destroyed and all Inventions fall apart after a day from the strain of containing Magic inside an otherwise mundane object.Artificers do not get free Cantrips, they must spend an Invention on them as normal and they also break after use. You could make it so Cantrip-carrying Inventions don't break from magically strain, so you can stockpile them, but that still leaves the logistical problem of carrying that many Inventions. That would be the main limiting factor for Artificers. A level 9 Artificer can have 18 Inventions carrying the spell Dispel Magic, but if we make an Invention have a weight of 3, that's 54 Pounds just in spells. More, if we make Cantrip Inventions only expire on use. If we also use Variant Encumbrance, with a Str score of 10, they are already Encumbered.
>>98559785For Artificer, I'd point to the Spell-Storing Item feature as a better basis for what you're trying to do there. Instead of having a bunch of inventions that each carry a single spell, you make it possible to just have a wand with multiple charges of the same spell. The way to homebrew that into an alternate casting system for the entire class would likely be just have one item per spell level, each capped at 2-3 charges. Maybe give a second item for 1st level spells at some point just to make them more plentiful.Alongside cantrips that's 9 items total, and at 3 pounds each 27 is doable. Though if you use something lighter like a Wand they can just be one pound each. If you wanted to further reduce weight, there would probably be other ways that you could condense spells. If the Artificer makes a Wand of Fireballs, then perhaps that invention is also what they need in order to cast Firebolt as a cantrip. Or, phrased more succinctly, an item with charges of a spell could also have a single cantrip that shares a school or damage type with the spell. That could potentially be extended further into Staff of Fire style items which cover multiple levels of spell but still with a limited number of charges, but that gets more complex. Either way, with just the cantrips, that still condenses things further to 5 inventions total, not including any existing infusions or items otherwise.Obviously there would be some downside there with how it'd more heavily limit the Artificer's flexibility, but that's sort of a realistic limitation when the flavor of the class is supposed to be that they made a bunch of potions/scrolls/wands ahead of time. The class reasonably shouldn't be very good at changing spells on the fly. Even that could potentially be addressed by allowing for some swaps during a Short Rest.
>>98559947hmm. How about an Artificer makes Wands for Lvl 0,1,2,3 Magic and for 4th and 5th level spells he makes Staves. During a Long Rest, he makes as 2-4 Wands (as many has he has Spell Slots) and either recharges his 1-2 Staves or breaks them down and makes new ones. Cantrip Wands hold a Singular Cantrip. Lvl 1 Wands hold a level 1 Spell. Lvl 2 Wands hold a Level 2 Spell and a Cantrip of the same School and Damage type. Level 3 Wands have a Level 3 Spell, a Level 1 Spell and a Cantrip of the same School and damage Type. Staves have a number of Charges and can cast a 4th Level Spell of a Specific School once or twice, a 5th Level Spell of a specific school once and a number of 1st,2nd and 3rd lvl Spells of the same School a number of times based on the Staff's number of charges. An Artificer can equip a number of such Wands and Staves equal to the number and type of Spell Slots they have, but they can also give them to others to use. Non-Artificers must attune to such Wands and Staves as if they are a normal magic item.So while limited in how many spells and what kind of spells they can use on their own, in a party and with enough Long Rests to prepare the Wands and recharge them, Artificers have more versatility than Wizards.Very limited caught off guard, very versatile with prep time and additional manpower, as magic item inventors should be
>>98559785Half-caster, but rangers should only be able to ritual cast spells, and should have a very limited number of spell slots but get access to higher level spells relatively quickly as a trade-off.
>>98559785Every time a cleric wants to cast a spell, they should have to make a religion check with a DC based on their current cleric level that determines how high of a spell level they are able to cast in that moment.Maybe the DC per spell level is always static, but they add their cleric level to the check so it gets easier the higher their level is. On a nat 1 you burn the slot with no effect, on a nat 20 the spell doesn't expend a slot.
>>98560143and he can recharge a number of wands per LR equal to PB and half of that per SR. Each Artificer can only ever make 2 Staves, one at 13th level and the other at 17th. Wands and Staves don't recharge on their own. they require an Artificer or Wizard (that has attuned to them) to do so. Wands have 2 or 3 Charges (except Cantrip Wands those either have double or infinite) and the Cantrips that come with a Lvl 2 and Lvl 3 Wand don't consume Charges.
>>98560164If it's all ritual casting, then they wouldn't really need spell slots at all, unless you mean that their spell list should only consist of spells with a 10+ minute casting time. It also sort of ceases to be a half-caster if they get the spells at a more typical rate. That said, it does sound like a pretty good way to handle utility magic for a Ranger. Alarm, Speak with Animals, Beast Sense, Locate Animals/Plants, there's a lot of suitable rituals that fit with the idea of a Ranger taking some time to prepare an ambush or use their skills.Sort of like taking the time to set up a snare trap, but with a more supernatural outcome.
if Spell Storing Item becomes the spellcasting system of Artificers, what do you replace it with? You could put the ASI one level earlier, but now both level 13 AND level 12 are dead levels, but what more could you give them? Mid-tier extra attack for Ranged weapons to synergise with their (optional) Firearm Proficiency? I will rarely play at that level but not Half Caster should have dead levels period, yet Artificer already has 2...
>>98560252So I guess to explain my thinking better, I think they should only be allowed to cast as rituals, following the normal ritual casting rules, but instead of having normal "spell slots" they have a number of rituals they can perform per day, their known rituals list is fairly small, but they get access to higher level rituals (spells) at an accelerated rate compared to other casters. But yeah, what you mentioned is kind of the vibe I was going for. Instead of "outdoorsy fighter who also does wizard shit sometimes" I think the vibe should be that they're particularly attuned to nature and/or good at utilizing the environment around themselves to the point that they can leverage their knowledge and experience to produce magical effects.
>>98560143>>98560295I don't think you'd fully need to replace it. At least, not in the sense of getting rid of the sudden power spike of an Artificer being able to start spamming 3rd level spells. Going by the new system, it could even be something as simple as giving the Artificer extra 3rd-level 'Wands' at that point. If each wand had 3 or so charges, then they've got their 3rd-level 'Wand' from their class feature (matching the three 3rd-level slots they'd have at 11th level), and could then get three extra 'Wands' for nine more charges (roughly matching the 2 x Int casts from Spell Storing Item). There's some flexibility with the exact numbers there, but I think it's largely a matter of seeing approximately how many spells of a given level the Artificer can use, and then building a system of items and charges that gives a similar result. Using the existing sorts of rules for magic item charges and spellcasting is just the simplest way to do so. At least, doing so without turning every item into a one-shot spell scroll and functionally just being old-school Vancian casting.
>>98557442I meant cause division and brand damage to the point that investors started a lawsuit. I know Hasbro wants to bring every last penny they can out of it before its a lifeless husk, but I didn't figure they'd pull the *exact* same idea. I figured they'd just stick to "live service" models and a "digital tabletop" or whatever. But seeing Universes Beyond in D&D is kind of crazy.
>>98560379I don't think you'd really need to put a cap onto anything that already exists as a ritual spell. Ritual spells are already pretty fair in terms of being able to cast them for free by taking 10 minutes.I'd also note that there really aren't that many higher-level rituals though. And some of those also aren't quite the things I'd expect of a Ranger.Even just being able to cast rituals matching the rate of a full-caster is already a big improvement though, as it means a Ranger could more freely be using spells like Silence much earlier. And then on top of that, they could still have a half-caster progression for spell slots, but with list tailored for everything to have a 1 minute or higher casting time. Prayer of Healing would be the sort of thing I'm thinking of there, moreso due to the effect rather than flavor. Spending 10 minutes in order to let the party short rest and get a bit of extra healing would be a fair tradeoff for a spell slot while still fitting into the 'ritual' theming. It's primarily a case of 5e lacking in spells that suit that sort of theme, and so more of the effort would go into the spell list rather than the casting progression itself.
>>98559785Since it's just stupid not to take Eldritch blast as a warlock, it should just be an automatic level 1 warlock feature and evolve to different variants based on which pact you choose. Like make it a variation on mind sliver for GOO patron, chill touch for undead patron, etc.Would help a lot to make Warlocks less samey across builds beyond "are you a blade pact warlock or a blastspam warlock?" I think.
>>98560469>Even just being able to cast rituals matching the rate of a full-caster is already a big improvement though, as it means a Ranger could more freely be using spells like Silence much earlier. That's the thing though, I don't necessarily think I would want them to be casting spells at the same rate as a full caster, seems kind of counter to the idea of them sticking to just rituals.Maybe have their casting more like a warlock where they get a very limited number of casts, but it resets on short rest? I dunno, I'm just spitballing, but yeah the main thing is I like the "all rituals" vibe for them.>It's primarily a case of 5e lacking in spells that suit that sort of themeYeah, I can agree with that. Honestly I think there should just be more separation in which spells are available to certain classes than there currently is.
>just spent 2 5th, one 6th and one 7th level spell slot to kill a swamp hagthe worlds luckiest bitch. >"poison" her tea with her own hag magic berries that delete past, present and future (three different berries.) >force her to drink the tea >7 turns of forcing tea down this cunts throat >healing, re-casting hold monster cause it passed TWICEa +5 on wisdom btw. worlds luckiest hag. it took nearly a half hour of the end of the session just to make her fail this.
>>98560518>I don't necessarily think I would want them to be casting spells at the same rate as a full caster, seems kind of counter to the idea of them sticking to just rituals. That's not what I'm saying though. I'm saying to give them the ritual spells 'early' in the context of a half-caster, meaning that they get 2nd-level ritual spells at Level 3 but can only cast those spells as rituals. Similar to the 2014 version of the Ritual Caster feat. And like with the feat, they would still be ritual spells, so a Ranger could spend the whole day casting Detect Magic and Silence if they wanted. But Level 3 Ranger would still be a half-caster, and thus not have 2nd-level spell slots yet. They'd have unlimited rituals, but still be limited in proper spell slots. A Tome Pact Warlock would be a good comparison. But then, taking it a step further would be to make it so that the non-ritual spells have a longer cast time. Again, Prayer of Healing serves as the easy example here. 10 minutes to cast, but it lacks the ritual tag so it's not being cast for free. But because it's a 2nd-level spell and the Ranger is a half caster, the Ranger would still be waiting until level 5 before they can cast it.Basically, the spell slots would be functioning as the big costly 'limited use rituals' for the Ranger, which would be assigned to the typical half-caster progression. But then the unlimited use rituals (Alarm, Silence, etc.) would be given accelerated progression to match a full-caster, since those are already cheap utility options that make sense for the Ranger to have access to relatively early.
>>98560697Hm, I think I see what you're saying, not a bad idea.I do think I'd prefer if they could only learn spells with the ritual tag, but like you said that'd be pretty limiting. I think it would probably make more sense to give more spells the ritual tag, but then they would probably also need to bring back the limit that only certain classes get the ritual casting feature (I think it was dumb to do away with that rule anyway though, so I'm in favor of that)
>>98535626it's one color. monocolor.
>>98535626>4e had some good art
>>98560407I'll keep that in mind, about the 11-12 Artificer level boosting the number of wands you can make. We'll see how the normal amount feels first. In the meantime, here's Spell-Storing Artificer: Level 11th Class Feature Spell-Storing Item is gone. Storing Spells in Items replaces standard Spellcasting. You have a fixed number of Artificer Spells you know from the Artificer Spell list. At level 1 you know 2 Cantrips of your choice from the Artificer Spell List, you learn an additional Cantrip at level 10 and another at level 14. The number of Artificer Spells you know is equal to your Intelligence Modifier+Proficiency Bonus (minimum of 2). When you gain a level in this class, you can replace Int Modifier number of the Artificer Cantrips and Spells you know with others from the Artificer Spell List.During a Long Rest, you craft and enchant a Wand for every different level of Spell Slot you have. For example, a Level 9 Artificer can cast spells up to 3rd Level, so during a LR, he crafts and enchants four Wands; a Cantrip Wand, A 1st Lvl Wand, a 2nd Lvl Wand and a 3rd Lvl Wand. An Artificer can only ever have one Wand per different level of Spell Slot equipped. But they can share the excess stock. Wands are physical objects the Artificer must hold and use to cast their spells. They can be stolen, attacked, disarmed of them, stowed away for later use and so on. An Artificer’s Wand has Int Modifier HP and an AC of 9+Int Modifier and has all the immunities of an item. An Artificer’s Wand weighs 1 Pound. cont.
>>98560848Wands are not necessarily a thin, straight rod of wood or metal. They can take many forms and shapes, but they always fit into an adult's hand. Casting a Spell through a Wand satisfies the Material (M) Component of a Spell, as long as it isn’t consumed by the Spell. A Wand holding a Spell that requires a Reaction might take the form of a bracelet or earring, while one that requires a Bonus Action might be an object like a coin or figurine you only need to briefly hold or touch. Otherwise, a Wand’s Spell still requires the hand motions and incantations of a normal Spell to activate. A Wand holds 3 Charges of its Spell. Cantrip Wands hold 6 Charges. Higher Level Wands hold both Spells and Cantrips. Cantrips casted from such a Wand do not consume Charges. An Artificer can recharge Proficiency Bonus Wands per Long Rest and half as much on a Short Rest. Wands do not recharge on their own and an Artificer can sustain a number of Wands equal to Int Mod+PB. Artificer Wands are only slightly different from ‘’normal’’ Magic Items and non-Artificers can attune to them as normal to use them. A Spellcaster that uses Intelligence as their Spellcasting Modifier can recharge an attuned Wand, like an Artificer can.A 2nd Level Wand holds a 2nd Level Spell and a Cantrip of the School or Damage type. A 3rd Level Wand holds a 3rd Level Spell, 1st Level Spell and a Cantrip of the same School or Damage type.A 4th and 5th level Wand is called a Staff and functions differently. An Artificer can only ever have 2 Staves, a 4th Level Staff and a 5th Level Staff. During a Long Rest, an Artificer can only recharge his two Staves or destroy them to create new ones containing a different 4th and 5th lvl Spell.
>>98560764I'd also be in favor of more spells having the ritual tag, though it is a matter of what spells can feasibly get it.Healing spells being the most obvious one, since if you can just cast the spell over and over for free, it becomes a cheap way to patch the party up without any real cost other than time.Which is mostly why I think still giving the Ranger spell slots, but with a spell list tailored to have spells with a long casting time, is the best way to maintain the spirit of all their spells being rituals, if not literally all having the ritual tag.
>>98560439>to the point that investors started a lawsuitYou aren’t actually taking that thing seriously, are you?
>>98560860An Artificer’s Staff has Int Mod*2 HP and an AC of 11+Int Mod and are otherwise identical to a Wand physically and in the way it facilitates spellcasting, except that they weigh 3 Pounds and are very obvious and hard to conceal, at most passing as a fancy cane or walking stick. An Artificer’s Staff holds 6 Charges. Both a 4th lvl and a 5th lvl one hold, in addition to their one high level spell, a 1st, 2nd and 3rd level Spell of the same School or Damage type. A 4th Level Spell costs 3 Charges and a 5th Level Spell costs 5 Charges. An Artificer can give away their Staff to another Creature, who can attune to it as normal, but cannot make an additional Staff of that Spell level.Regardless of how many Wands he has to recharge during a Short or Long Rest, an Artificer can always recharge one of his Staves during a SR and both of them during a LR. A Spellcasting Creature, that uses Intelligence, attuned to an Artificer Staff treats it as a normal Wand when recharging it. Artificer Staves do not recharge on their own.
>>98560864Yeah, infinite healing glitch would definitely be an issue, could maybe mitigate that by adding a cost to ritual cast healing spells where you have to expend a hit die or something.Really I'd just love to see more done with ritual casting in general to make it a more distinct form of magic, as it stands it just feels like such an afterthought.
>>98560192so clerics must first always beseech and pray for a miracle from their god, before they can manifest any form of magic? That sounds nice on paper, but can you really do that in less than 6 seconds? Maybe what separates a Cleric from a Priest is the ability to enter a trance whenever you wish, a direct psychic connection to God, where time flows slower, giving you enough time to pray to them and also successfully cast the spell afterwards.
>>98561005>That sounds nice on paper, but can you really do that in less than 6 seconds?Grab your holy symbol and hope for a miracle? Why not?
>>98560379>>98560469what about stuff like Ice Knife and Conjure Barrage? I'm all for turning Ranger into a proper Dunedain Outdoorsman with ancient knowledge of the true name of nature and all that, but those spells are there to represent you doing a cool trick with your bow or dagger, even if entirely magical in nature. You could take Arcane Archer's Arcane Arrows. Shoot AA in the back of the head and cannibalize the corpse. With ritual casting for the outdoorsman knowledge and Arcane Arrows for the bow tricks, Ranger would have its own unique Half-Caster Identity
>>98561023so instead of Somatic, Verbal and non-consumable Components to a spell, you just pray? You entirely rely on Thaumathurgy for your magic?
>>98561083Grabbing your holy symbol and praying can literally be verbal and somatic components, and a holy symbol already serves as a spell focus for non-consumable components.
>>98560697so a Ranger's spell progression works like this:They still have spell slots, Half-Caster Spell progression and the same number of known Spells, but they always know (and always have?) their Ritual Tag Spells from their Spell List and get them 2 levels earlier of their Spell slot level (so 2nd lvl rituals at Level 3, 3rd lvl rituals at Level 7, 4th lvl rituals at Level 11 and so on). Rangers also can only cast spells as a Ritual and if a Spell has a Casting Time of 1 minute or higher, they can cast it as a Ritual. Did I get it right?
>>98561060I think there's still room for having some spells like that if the class keeps spell slots. Though it would be flipped around where instead of casting those as an action, it'd probably be something like a 10 minute casting time to put the spell on a piece of ammunition or thrown weapon for 1 hour. It wouldn't be as efficient, but it'd be a plausible way to implement some of those types of spells. The other alternative would be handling it via subclass. Either in an Arcane Archer manner like you said, or by giving the subclass an expanded spell list that would give the Ranger some spells with shorter casting times.
>>98561147The phrasing I would use is>At level 1, you learn two 1st-level spells of your choice that have the ritual tag.>Whenever you gain an odd-numbered level in this class, you learn two additional spells of your choice that have the ritual tag. The spell's level can be no higher than half your level (rounded up).>You can cast the chosen spells as rituals, and you can't cast them except as rituals.Which works out to be 2nd-level rituals at level 3, 3rd at 5, 4th at 7, and so on. This could also include the ability to swap out rituals known either on a long rest or on level-up.This would functionally be a separate feature from their standard half-casting Spellcasting feature. The example I'd point to is Book of Ancient Secrets for Warlock. >if a Spell has a Casting Time of 1 minute or higher, they can cast it as a Ritual. This part is completely incorrect for what I'm proposing. It is simply that every non-ritual spell on the Ranger spell list has a casting time of 1 minute or more. They do not gain the ritual tag, since that would mean being able to cast them for free. To give an example (with some existing spells that fit the tags/casting time, rather than being a proper suggestion of what spell should be available to them), a level 5 Ranger would have four 1st-level slots and two 2nd-level slots. The spellcasting feature would give them Alarm, Identify, Snare, Augury, and Prayer of Healing as spells known. All of which have a lengthy casting time, but aren't all rituals. The Ranger could cast Prayer of Healing twice per day.The ritual casting feature would give them Detect Poison/Disease, Speak with Animals, Animal Messenger, Silence, Tiny Hut, and Phantom Steed. This is also why I said that most of the work in making the Ranger function this way would be in the spell list, because it's a matter of coming up with a good list of Ritual spell versus spells like Prayer of Healing which aren't Rituals but still take 10+ minutes to cast.
ok. Thanks for the responses! that's at least 3 classes with completely reimagined spell casting mechanics and even multiple ideas for Ranger's.I go to sleep now, because it is 2 in the morning. But if you still have ideas keep posting them and I'll add them to the document when I wake up.
>>98560792>>98560800>anon replies almost a week later to let me know he found out about monochrome paintingsgood job kiddo
>>98560192>>98561083It does remind me a little of how Dungeon Crawl Classics handles it, where you roll in order to cast a spell, with higher results giving you an increased effect, but a low-roll resulting in a loss of your god's favor and being cut off for that particular spell until you earn back their favor (typically in the form of offerings alongside your evening/morning prayers). It's a pretty volatile system, but from the times I've played it does a pretty good job of making the powers feel like something that's being lent out. Though with the tradeoff of making the gods feel rather fickle.
>>98560866I mean if I recall, its already been dropped. The point isn't the lawsuit itself, though. The point is that the investors are upset, and are making it known that they're willing to take action. In light of that, yeah, I think more Universes Beyond was a bold choice.
>>98557094To be fair, there were licenced Warcraft D&D books (made by White Wolf, of all people) before WoW was even released.
>>98560192>>98561083>>98561399So I guess let me revise my initial explanation of the mechanic, at the start of each turn I would have clerics rolls their religion check + cleric level and that would determine how strong their spiritual connection is in that moment, informing which spells they currently have access to for that turn. Could even work in some fun mechanics where doing certain things either strengthens or weakens their connection making that check harder or easier throughout combat. To support this, I'd probably instead of giving them leveled spell slots use something more like warlock pact slots where they're good for any level that the cleric passed the check for.
>>98561909In that context, it would probably need to be closer to Warlock slots, where the Cleric has a pool of uses, and the check just determines how good the slot is at that moment. Having the check fluctuate or get modified in certain circumstances is also a fun detail. Like giving Advantage if you're up against the god's enemies, or like a War Cleric getting a stacking bonus whenever they hit with an attack.Could even be used as a catch-up mechanic in some ways, like if an ally takes damage, that boosts your check, so if a battle is going poorly, you're more likely to pull off something major.
>>98535621If you aren't holding a focus you need a free hand to cast spells and handle components, that's just the basic rules. But I'm pretty forgiving on what can be a focus.

>>98562211No, and because you asked retard questions I'd bump it down to 1d4.
>>98562189It is ultimately the DM's call. Expecting it to be on par with a Pike or Lance feels rather unreasonable. Spear or Javelin is closer, just in terms of the length of a musket and the fact it's a more basic stabbing weapon.>>98562211I'd say Versatile would apply if they rule it as a Spear, though I could see them denying Polearm Master even if they did rule it that way, since at a certain point it is still an improvised weapon.I could also see asking for a Dagger over a Spear, in order to use Dex that way.I will also say that a Shortsword, while not making as much sense, would be relatively fair. Since any musket-toting character could, instead of fixing a bayonet, take one hand off their musket and just draw a shortsword/rapier/etc. Taking a hand off of a weapon isn't an action, and as of 2024 drawing a weapon can be done as part of an attack. So the only real reason to go for a bayonet is the style points, which is still a good reason to go for it
>>98562226It's not being ruled as a spear, it's being ruled as doing the same damage as a spear.
>>98562189I'd probably rule it as a dagger mechanically but potentially give it extra reach or something I dunno.
>>98562234The damage of the spear comes from it being a spear, you can't handle a bayonetted musket the same way you can a spear so I think it's unreasonable to give it the same damage, you couldn't get the same power behind the thrust.

>>98562258So suddenly asking for clarification on a legitimate rules interaction is now an issue? Lose the neuroticism. I would leave your table in a heartbeat, dude. Either they rules apply to everyone or no one.
>>98562234>the DM may say it functions as that weapon and uses that weapon's rulesThis is the part of the glossary terms that's rather key there. If the DM rules that a laundry pole counts as a quarterstaff when used as an improvised weapon, then it is a Quarterstaff for rules purposes and thus would work for Polearm Master according to RAW.That being said, I would not try to force this issue in a case where the DM is already ruling the weapon in such a way that would give you better damage. Trying to optimized around your bayonet musket being treated as a spear is a great way to get the DM to change his mind and change it to a javelin, so you go from the d8 from versatile down to a d6. >>98562246The thing I'd ultimately say is that it's rarely worth having a drawn out argument with your DM about how an improvised weapon should function, unless they're already the sort of person who likes to put a lot of thought into homebrew systems.Like, I'm the sort of person who would probably go through the trouble of making a bayonet item and statblock if I had a player this excited to be a musketeer, but not every DM appreciates being made to do that, so it's better to keep it simple.
>>98562264You wouldn't be able to play at my table. We don't allow retards. Like people who think bayonets are polearms. You asked a question l, got an answer and tried to worm more things into it. Any decent DM is going to shut you down as soon as you bring feats and weapon properties into a favor they're doing you.
>>98562277The only difference is bayonets are most definitely not polearms. Asking to use a feat on a homebrew improvised weapon is asking for the DM to hate you. And considering bayonets already need two hands to use, I'm not sure how versatile should come into play.
>>98562277>rarely worth having a drawn out argument with your DMThat's why I want to come up with the case and let him make the determination, which I'll accept.>making a bayonet item and stat blockI would definitely back off on it unless it was something you specifically wanted to do. Like I said before, I'd rather just use the improvised weapon rule before obligating you make homebrew about it.>>98562278Polearm Master applies to spears. If a DM ruled it as a spear, then per the glossary, it's eligible for an interaction with a feat I've had for at least a dozen sessions. You weren't to know, but my musket is new. I haven't even used it at all yet, and I just thought it would be cool to put a bayonet on it. I haven't even spoken to my DM at all about the matter, and I thought it wasn't an unreasonable thing to come loaded with ammunition, as it were, before I asked. I genuinely want to know why you think I'm being retarded. Where is my break in logic, here? Do you think I'm mentioning this in bad faith, or something? Are you even reading anything I'm writing? I am interpreting this purely RAW, and in no other way. Semantics like what is or isn't a polearm should come after, and would be part of the subjective determination by my DM.
>>98562296I'm not omniscient. I genuinely just happened to notice it adapting the rules of the Spear would make it, per RAW eligible, for the Polearm Master feat the instant after I made this post here >>98562189
>>98562312>per rules glossaryPer Rule 0 the glossary means nothing, and no DM of any worth would allow you to try that. I don't think you're a retard, I know you're a retard because you think bayonets are polearms. Don't worry, this is the exact kind of feedback you want. It's far better for me to call you a retard then to get in an argument at the table where all the other players are wondering what kind of munchkin bullshit you're attempting.>>98562326RAW the bayonet is whatever the DM says it is, not the player. It can change in an instant.
>>98562296>The only difference is bayonets are most definitely not polearmsThat's ultimately my point. The improvised weapon rules are already subject to a lot of DM fiat, so trying to force strict RAW with the DM saying "well I guess it's like a Spear" runs the risk of him taking it back and deciding instead to just give you 1d4 with no proficiency bonus.>>98562312>That's why I want to come up with the case and let him make the determination, which I'll accept.Coming up with a case arguably hurts your case.>Where is my break in logic, here? Your break in logic is that the DM is a person, not a computer where you perform the right inputs to receive an ideal outcome. You have correctly identified how the improvised weapons rules work RAW, but are failing to recognize that your DM might not care as much about a random line in the rules glossary as you do.If the DM calls it a Spear, and then you immediately follow up with 'so I can use Polearm Master?', it's going to come across as a 'gotcha' or like you were power-gaming for that specific result. If the DM then says it doesn't work, pointing to the glossary isn't going to help you. In the worse case, you get the weapon changed to something else, or the bayonet becomes a d4 with no proficiency bonus. Trying to rules-lawyer your DM about an off-the-cuff ruling isn't a nice thing to do. That's the logic you're missing.
>>98562343Then just tell me no instead of getting your ego involved. You claim to have so much authority, and yet you constantly squander it by simply flexing and flaunting it rather than actually using it by simply saying that and leaving it at that. You can cower behind calling me a retard all you want, but the truth of the matter is, you're just upset that I noticed an interesting rules interaction and, by my right as a player, sought to utilize it if I can. It's only natural; you'd do the same equivalency in any other similar circumstance regardless of the medium. What if, hypothetically, everyone else at the table was convinced by my argument? Would they suddenly be retards too?>>98562357>Coming up with a case arguably hurts your caseWell, now when I bring it up I'll even mention the problem from the start, with full transparency. Something like, "However, the problem with it becoming a Spear or polearm or whatever is that it would then be eligible for my Polearm Master feat." I'm actually really glad I noticed it. Basically laying out the entire thing, including just saying that he can tell me to kick rocks if any or all of it is too much. I don't care about what's strongest, I care about what's "right." I want my DM to make the best decision with the most information, and nothing else. I have no idea what that guy's problem is.>DM is a humanThat makes it even more subject to manipulation. If I predicted all of this was going to happen, and pushing too far was going to result in a worse outcome, I would've just stopped here >>98562197, and became even more powerful and you would think I was being earnest and nobody loses, despite me potentially being knowingly subversive the whole time.>>98562343Also, if you must know, part of Bayonet Rifle Manual is using a buttstroke as the follow-up to jabs, thrusts, and chops with the bayonet. That is, honest-to-god no BS, part of hand-to-hand training with a rifle.
>>98562343>Per Rule 0 the glossary means nothingYou fucking faggot. You fucking nigger. You fucking reddit motherfucker. Go back and don't return!
>>98562403Calm down retard, if you're going to throw a tantrum like this for being downgraded from d6 to d4 on 4chan, you're not even going to get to the point of asking him. You're going to get kicked as soon as you open your mouth. This is your ilk >>98562413. Now begone you retarded faggot, and actually play the game instead of reading the rules glossary.
>>98562474Now you're literally not even making sense. You are genuinely so mad about me being sincere that you're just typing words at the screen, what the hell? I made a legitimate argument with rules text to back it and I haven't made a single post in bad faith from the very start. Meanwhile, you're the one projecting about throwing a tantrum "MUH RULE 0 MUH AUTHORITAY" like it matters here. Yes dude, we know you run the damn game that's what the DM does. You're also a person and can be conversed with like one, too. Part of that is having a fair discussion over rules when they're not instantly and immediately clear. You are being a bully when you have no reason to be. You are genuinely the problem here, not me. I have been as open and as humanly transparent as I could reasonably have and you respond with quite frankly mentally ill levels of vitriol in response. If you ever wonder why you're dealing with so many "retards" you should take a look in the mirror before you ponder further.>muh sekrit clubHow you behave anywhere is how you behave everywhere.
>>98562504The only thing you've been sincere about is being a retarded faggot. You sure do type a lot for someone who isn't throwing a tantrum.
>>98562527It's because I have a lot to say. It's what you aren't saying that makes me believe you're not a particularly good DM. You have no creativity, you can't think outside the box and you don't even put any effort into something that should be so trivial as a conversation with a retard, for someone that, presumably, believes they're not one. I know for a fact this is the case because you do offer any solutions. You haven't made a single post in favor of or against anything anyone else said. You just call people retards. That's why I know you're a weak DM that has to hide behind the power of fiat, because you haven't bother to train your creativity. You're better than this, dude. It's obvious you care just enough to continue responding, so it's not like it doesn't matter to you at all. I actually would want to help you, if I could. That's more than you deserve.
my plan is to make the quest giver for my party a literal 12-year old who has somehow been given the reigns of the kingdom and the party is given quests because they need to fill his childish desires but the reagent is just smart enough to not involve the kingdoms actual army to solve problems>there is a bandit problem? kill all of them>the people in this village starve? why not just send them 1000 tons of foodand all of his childishly simple solutions are palmed off to the party, who by divine providence manage to do everything he asks
>>98562403>That makes it even more subject to manipulationYes. That's my point. You're going about this in a really autistic way, and I'm telling you this so that you can avoid a situation where you sperg out in person or your friends think you're trying to manipulate them.>I don't care about what's strongest, I care about what's "right."Do you care more about being "right" than playing the game with your friends?
>>98562543But you don't have anything to say, otherwise you'd actually be saying something instead of throwing a tantrum. Is the reason why you're so mad about this is because you know you're acting like a retarded faggot, or do you think every table is required to put up with you?
>>98562239What? Yes, a bayonet straight up makes a rifle a spear. I mean, you cant throw it like a spear, but in melee, pretty identical.
>>98562596maybe damage wisebut it should be clumsier than a spear as a result of being heavier and shorter and with uneven weight distribution
>>98562596Not really. Muskets are too awkward to handle with one hand so you wouldn't be able to use it with a shield. And depending on the musket and bayonet, you wouldn't be able to fire it with it attached.
>>98562554>autistic wayIt's a text-based discussion. There's more room for thought and consideration in the medium. I have direct, immediate access to resources and can refer them instantaneously. Why do you think I'm going to sperg out just because I can make a handful of mildly verbose posts about some extremely specific ruling? It's immediately interesting and relevant to me and its a problem I think is worth focusing on, even if its absolute value isn't very high. I'm not sure I appreciate the insinuation that discussing rules is just autistic now.>right"right" is in quotations because it's an inherently stochastic property, dictated by the DM. What's right is what the DM rules, and those rulings are hopefully determined by things like precedent, experience, RAW, RAI, and RAF. I genuinely am not some sort of bizarre know-it-all or whatever. I know nothing, man. I don't care about being "right," I care about what is "right," these are not the same thing.>>98562555Alright, it's obvious at this point you're barely reading my posts. Nobody "puts up" with me. I've ended up having D&D night canceled over my inability to attend, not the inverse. I play my role, I do my best to be effective in combat, and I manage the party's inventory and bag of holding (and pack giant anteater before that). Yeah, I was honestly mildly frustrated by your immature reaction to the rules interaction, but now I understand it's more likely because you're not really clever or savvy enough to do handle it any other way. I refuse to believe you wouldn't just respond with a solution if you had one, given how swollen your ego is. You also don't have to reply to people you think are retards, you know that right? Fool me once, and all that or whatever.
>>98562596>>98562610My interpretation is that the improvised weapons blurb is a transient state, and it would only have those properties during the attack sequence, and then it reverts back to normal at some arbitrary point in that moment. That's why you wouldn't be able to simply run around with a musket-shaped spear and a shield. Even I think that's "retarded," and way beyond the scope of RAI.
>>98562622It was obvious 2 hours ago. The conversation ended at >>98562220, the rest was you throwing a tantrum and being kicked from any table that's unfortunate enough to have to deal with you. Next time the DM gives you a free d6, don't cry about it.
>>98562604Its not. Theyre designed ergonically. Plus, because of the shape of the grip, you can actually get a more solid push than a straight pole.>>98562610I mean, yeah? You cant use a partisan with one hand either. Different spears for different purposes, but an ikwa, a sarissa, and a rifle with a bayonet are all spears at the end of the day. Of course its the DMs call at the end of the day, but in my opinion, I think a fair ruling would be that yes, it counts as a spear. It'd be 2h, with javelin damage, and it takes an action to affix the bayonet. Polearm master can apply.
Pole Strike no, Reactive Strike yes.
>>98562646The problem with PAM is that you can already use the musket as a 1d4 improvised bludgeoning weapon. Asking for PAM is pure munchkin bullshit. Muskets aren't polearms, even if you put a bayonet on it.
>>98562622>I'm not sure I appreciate the insinuation that discussing rules is just autistic now.Oh, don't get me wrong, I love a good in-depth rules discussion about incredibly niche topics. But when I say your DM is human, and your reaction is "That makes it even more subject to manipulation", can you see how that doesn't give me a positive impression of your social grace?>I don't care about being "right," I care about what is "right," these are not the same thing.Yes, I'm the same way. You don't want to win, you want the certainty and clarity. But that's the purpose of my question. I wasn't asking what you consider "right". I was asking if you care more about this single ruling than your relationships with actual living people.
>>98562604Weight distribution doesn't actually matter that much after a certain point, like there's diminishing returns, and rifles, even muskets, aren't exactly imbalanced or they'd be unwieldy to fire, let alone fight with. Bayonets also tend to be extremely rigid in my experience, with abnormally thick spines to withstand the stresses of buckling under axial load. They also use triangular shapes more like a bona fide spike rather than a blade.>>98562646>they're designed ergonomicallyEspecially napoleonic and american civil war era weaponry. I've seen some sketches that are almost pistol grips, that's actually a lot of room for leverage or whatever.>>98562646>action to affix the bayonetWould you be willing to clarify the attack sequencing for this? We'll assume that you're in melee range of an enemy and your Musket is out, and nothing else.>>98562675We're in 2024, not 2014. PAM applies to spears, which would interface with PAM if the "Weapon Equivalent" rule is observed and the chosen equivalent is that of a spear.
>>98562697It's still a musket even if the bayonet deals spear damage. Muskets aren't covered in PAM.
>>98562684>can you see how that doesn't give me a positive impression of your social graceI recognized it and demonstrated its vileness. I would certainly hope so>You don't want to win, you want the certainty and clarity.Consistency, too. I want to be able to take this to any other table and have it work the same way. I despise house rulings upon house rulings upon house rulings that evolves due to the thoughtless over-invocation of DM fiat.>relationships with actual living people I already stated a minimum of 3 times my agreeableness to whatever the DM determined. I have no idea where the "steadfast brick wall anon" thing is coming from, beyond the requirements of certainty and clarity. I can pick my battles, trust.>>98562706It inherits rules too, not merely damage.
>>98562712No, it doesn't. The bayonet is the improvised weapon you retarded faggot, not the musket.
>>98562717Why is it arbitrarily being constrained to the blade instead of the whole object?
>>98562712>I want to be able to take this to any other table and have it work the same way. That won't happen.
>>98562726Why do you arbitrarily think it applies to the whole weapon and not the improvised weapon you were asking about?
>>98562712>I despise house rulings upon house rulings upon house rulings that evolves due to the thoughtless over-invocation of DM fiat. But that's the only way you could possibly use the Reactive Strike feature of Polearm Master with a bayonetted musket.
>>98562735It's the only way you can use bayonetted musket anyway.
>it's easier to just carry a spear and a musket and just swap between them
>>98562743>it's quicker to switch to a sidearm than it is to reload
>>98562712>I want to be able to take this to any other table and have it work the same way.I mean, even within this very thread you can see how that's not really going to be the case. People aren't even arguing on whether a Bayonet should be a d8 or a d6, let alone whether it should qualify as a Spear in all aspects.>I have no idea where the "steadfast brick wall anon" thing is coming fromI wouldn't describe your attitude as a brick wall, but I can say from past experience that a player asking a series of increasingly specific questions about a very particular ruling (and coming prepared with citations) tends to be a red flag for a DM. But beyond that, there are also cases as a DM where I don't want to commit to a ruling immediately. Specifically because I too despise having a bunch of extra houserules that change over time because the DM was careless about implementing them. Which is why I wouldn't appreciate a sudden demand to clarify every possible ruling surrounding improvised weapons and set them in stone for all future games. That's also part of why my first instinct would be to homebrew a bayonet item instead, precisely because then the bayonet can do exactly what I've intended, no more, and no less.>I can pick my battles, trust. So long as you're aware.
>>98562729I think we're disagreeing on what constitutes "the improvised weapon."Musket being used as an improvised weapon attack in melee - d20 @ 1d4 + strBayonet - mechanically meaningless; merely descriptive. It does inherently nothing by itself in a vacuum. No rules.Musket with Bayonet - Superficially, logically, doctrinally, historically: resembles a spear, however, this is mechanically meaningless, it's still a Musket, as there are no rules for a bayoneted musket.Weapon Equivalents - "If" a weapon resembles a simple or martial weapon, the DM *may* say it functions as that weapon and uses that weapon's rulesunder this prospective rule, regardless of whether or not you would use it, would it function with masteries, polearm master, and other weird weapon rules. If it's versatile, does it benefit from GWM/GWF if one had them?
>>98562778I'm voting the problem as the equipmental superposition. It exists as both a spear and musket simultaneously and double-dips on both weapon type's advantages and disadvantages without regard for action economy normally associated with two distinct weapons without any real tradeoff.
>>98562778You're roght, we are disagreeing and as the player you're always wrong. The bayonet is the improvised weapon and is a d4 damage weapon. Slapping it on a musket would normally bump it up to d6 because of leverage or whatever, but because you're an annoying retarded faggot it's going to stay a d4. You can fully expect that treatment at the table. The less annoying you are, the more agreeable people tend to be. And like you said, there are no rules for bayonetted muskets so when the DM says what it does, don't throw a tantrum for 2 hours and be happy with what you get. And no, for you it benefits from nothing. It does 1d4 piercing damage as an attack.
>>98562804Yeah, he wants two weapons in one. That's why he asked about feats.
>>98562816I'm literally the same dude.
>>98562821Sorry. What I should have said was;Only retarded faggots want two weapons in one.
>>98562830You know, you could simply choose to just be less miserable. I actually think you're a pretty cool guy when cooler heads prevail. I hope you have a nice night Anon, honestly.
>>98562834Thanks anon, I am pretty cool guy. And I'm not miserable, I'm simply letting you know that you're a retarded faggot who wants to have two weapons in one and threw a tantrum for two hours when told that his damage die was being bumped from d6 to d4. If this is how you act on an anonymous mongolian underwater basketweaving forum when being told no, I truly feel sorry for the people who have to deal with you. You are an insufferable cunt who tries to rules lawyer a fucking bayonet because you're too chickenshit to just ask for what you want. Change your fucking attitude, otherwise it's not going to be gay retards calling you a retarded faggot online, it's going to be the people in your life. Muskets aren't polearms, but I can almost guarantee you if you worked with your DM to homebrew something or just flat out state "hey DM, can I attach a bayonet on my musket and have it be spear that works with PAM?" it will goes far better than a step-by-step breakdown of how much of a faggot you are.
>>98550366>and the ability to upcast past your usual level limitAnd there it is. The munchkin faggotry. You will never and should never get that ability. Limits exist for a reason. >>98562278If you rule a bayonet is a spear, then PAM applies. Not because it's a glaive-guisarme but because PAM applies to spears. Also if a player with PAM is asking if a bayonet is a spear he's asking if this very spear-like weapon falls into his weapon specialization.
