>hoard .stls and spend more time worrying about gaining access to .stls than painting or playing
>when they do print, half the time it's tasteless slop that would never be cast up by a typical miniature company
>entire mindset around the hobby reduces down to "printer goes brrrrr" mindset and room temperature takes like "for the price of [current box set] you could buy a 3d printer and just print it all"
>even if they do actually paint their prints (which seriously must be below 1% of all printed miniature's fate) they sometimes leak harmful uncured resin, or simply collapse after a couple of years

I don't hate 3D printed miniatures, I own some. Though I will admit the above is probably exacerbated by being on 4chan, which is full of invalids and scrimpers who always feel like they have to cheat the system in some way, rather than engaging honestly with a hobby like miniature wargaming. I'm not saying but GW at full RRP, I hate them too, but so many of you seem to come in and prooont before you can even paint a monopose 2nd edition Ork decently.

By this you mean buying the product of a company who did female custodes?

No I mean like "actually being the person in the [game] general that posts about playing the game and painting up stuff for it, regardless of source" and not the kind of daily pathetic stuff I do see

3D printing companies deliberately sold these things to people to make slop. They are capable of good but they are mostly used for slop, like all those videos which are more about the "ASMR" of the indian guy doing it pulling all the supports off his latest Pokemon print.

I have a friend who is exactly this, high end printers either sitting unused or churning out unpainted armies.

However, I use a cheapo Elegoo FDM printer for terrain. It's just not cost effective to buy terrain, and a 25cm build plate is plenty for wargames terrain unless you're going stupidly big.

I paint to a relatively good standard and thus wouldn't get a resin printer, it's more cost effective for me to buy prints like picrel on the rare occasions I need them. One small FDM printer makes stuff faster than I can paint and adding a resin one would just mean a pile of shame and it probably having maintenance issues due to lack of use.

The problem is that you buy a printer for the group. Most just buy it to be able to print cool stuff. Because they are into making their own minis or like the possibility to make their own stuff. But are not capable of sculp or mold.
The idea of the possibilities and to feel to make creative stuff is the kick.
>>
>>98536729
Lol, get in here boys, latest desperate psyop against 3d printing has dropped.

I wonder which flavour of poofter you are, anon? There's the STL sculptor so dumb they bought into the myth that every pirated copy is a lost sale, or the angry nerd who thought they could turn STL sharing into a super sekrit klubhouse where they could strut about and now find everyone just laughing at them, or perhaps you're just a garden variety James Workshop legal intern.

Regardless, you're obviously so desperate to dunk on "proonters" that you're too stupid to maintain your faux reasonable facade for even a single post. I'm gonna go print some more stuff, put it in a box, and mark it "never to paint, so that proontanon will never stop seething" - it's always going to be there anon, in my garden shed, unpainted, mocking you.

this crap if empty inside, may contain printing fluid
had surprise when my bought printed Carnifex started bleeding white fluid when I drilled hole in foot for pin to base it.
>>

>melting print
What prevents this?
What resin is known for this so I can avoid it?

>hoard stls
Literally me. I have both an external hdd and an ssd. I should have had two hdds but computer stuff is expensive now so I am unsure if I should move the files off the ssd and sell it or keep it as an extra storage for stls.

>"for the price of [current box set] you could buy a 3d printer and just print it all"
I mean this is very true for some games. Like 40k. I will never get into 40k unless I get a 3d printer and print them.
>>
>>98538969
>What prevents this?
Higher temp filaments that aren't PLA.
Injection mold minis will also melt if you leave them in a baking greenhouse.
>>
>>98538953
Resin prints generally shouldn't be hollow, particularly warhammer sized things. This is a very common fuckup though and it happens post-sculpting so you need to be careful when buying printed models to ensure the service doing the printing is actually competent using a printer.
>>
>>98538983
I plan to use resin. Looking at sunlu right now as that’s what anvil industry uses allegedly.
I know plastic injection models have a melting point. Makes me wonder how they survive in Australia.

>have to cheat the system in some way, rather than engaging honestly with a hobby like miniature wargaming
Minis have always been kind of expensive and have gone full retard expensive in recent years. If your goal is to play games, anything that isn't too time intensive that reduces costs is a win. Otherwise you are just feeding GW.
>>
>>98540638
There are certainly legitimate arguments against 3d printing (and I say this as someone who 3d prints), but the line of "well if you don't give geedubs a second hand car worth of money then you are cheating" is a bizarre take.
>>
>>98541714
Indeed. Wargames can (and should) be played with abstract markers like bottle caps or unit chits. Personal opinion.
The grift against 3D printing just makes it all more obvious where the hobby is going.
>>
>>98544266
I'm sorry, but I need to field the latest overpowered army in a setting where we one-up each other to feel like we're of any value, and if it becomes anywhere near affordable, it'll become a level playing field.

I can't afford that!

Shit, OP...you did know that one can horde STLs *and* play and paint, right? The hording is not just for me, either. Just last week, my GF mentioned that one of her coworkers was getting into 40K, and did I have any orks? I filled up her flash drive with 24G of orks and another 1G of oldhammer orks and wished her friend well. I even print 40K stuff for my friends if they supply the resin. Each time that I do this, I'm costing GW a sale. It's become a hobby of its own.

>>98538969
It's not a thing with UV cured resins anon. I'm pretty sure that they'll burn before they melt.
>>
>>98538969
In general resin prints shouldn't melt. The temperatures necessary to even get them to warp under pressure or their own weight is not something that should be achievable in a normal environment. The more likely problem is if the print is hollow and wasn't emptied, cleaned, and/or cured internally as the uncured resin releasing gases over time along with just general air expansion from warmth can crack the thing from the pressure build up. If your resin model melts it is because you left it in some abnormally high temperature area or until some sort of magnified sunlight.

People do all the same things with plastic kits too, the motive here is suspect

you love it so much you spent less than five minutes painting it

NTA, but there are still a few of us on the traditional games board that actually play traditional games. Spending multiple days painting a single mini doesn't work for functional adults that need 50-100 on the table. Your detail work on the retinas is great and we're all proud of you, now fuck off back to WIP with that neet bullshit. No one with a life has time for that.
>>
>>98536729
Printing is still better because one can make their own miniature with blender alone.
It ain’t perfect but it is there.
Also the gw price virus spreads to all minis eventually. Printing can liberate one from it.

Saw a peachy’s tips video of those painted in classic Lego space colors.
Wish I thought of that.
Same guy did Lego classic castle paintjobs of medieval minis.

>>98546469
Wip is a weirdly chill eye of the storm place last I checked in this forum.
>>
>>98546428

Yeah they're not my best or most ambitious paintjob. But these are basic grunts meant to be mowed down in their dozens.
>>
>>98546469
it's a hobby, you do it because you like it, you also dont need a fully painted army just to play.
>>98537180
what model is this?

Frostgrave demon with a stargrave trooper head.
>>

erm
are plastics supposed to do that?
>>
Professional cast molding will always be superior to the 3D Printed slop. It's just a fact.
>>
>>98536729
You sound salty and jelly. I printed more than 550 minis for 450€, including the price of the printer.

Printer does go brrrr
Me play games with cool looking fully painted armies for cheap, without giving a single cent to goyslop companies.
You mad.

Do resin minis melt? My house in parts gets 40c in summer
