I once found some STL of 2E 40K figures. But do any exist for 40K: Rogue Trader?Don’t tell me who, this a yes/no question.
>>98541731Yes most of the RT range has been scanned already
>>98541731Yep, I know the rt space marines and imperial army are definitely scanned up. Those shouldn't be too hard to find in the wild, if not I can always put my folders up on a throwaway gofile for the thread if need be.
>>98541731Yes, honestly they're easier to find than 2ed stuff.
>>98542206Not that anon, but it'd be appreciated if you shared them.
>>98541731>Don’t tell me whoFrank Fucking Rizzo!
>>98543212Is he on cults?
Okay but was pic rel ever scanned or something?
>>98542206I made some
>>98545073A good number of them have been scanned. They're from a comfy private group and I've no intentions to leak them. Ask around on fantasy TG groups and you'll likely find a way to buy em.
I've seen plenty of fandexes for 3rd and 4th in the wild, but has anyone actually tried to recreate the lost Alien Hunters codex? Never seen one.
>>98546782>A good number of them have been scanned. They're from a comfy private group and I've no intentions to leak them.Cool, good to know the models aren't "lost to time">buy em.Meh...
>>98547301Most of that money goes into buying new models to scan, and the scans themselves are pretty cheap, usually less than 50c a pop, so I really have no issue paying, particularly when you're getting a dozen files for less than what a single original would run you.
>>98547194https://wh35k.com/alien-hunters/
>>98549789Shit, that is interesting. Will give it a proper read later. Thanks, anon.
>>98548735>50c a popnvm then, that's finethe only scan group I got into sold single minis for lke 8-10 usd at leastnow I guess it's not really the best time to be asking around for groups and invites with the recent crackdowns...
>>98548735>50cMan fuck the dodo group then.>$2 per modelFuck that.
>>98551581Yeah, getting oldhammer for literal cents is good and all, but even at 2 buckaroos it's a lot less than what you usually end up paying for shipping alone when buying metals.

Does anyone have recommendations for 3rd party sculpts that could work as servitors?
>>98553521Try north star automatons
>>98553371Kino, love these older Skaven, they're chunkier and better dressed than the modern lanky hobos that he loves so much nowadays
>>98553728Cheers dude. I'm searching around for a decent Level 1/2 monster deck for Skaven so I can roll these Clanrats into that. Got most of the Catacombs table due to being an Vampire Counts player.
>>98548735I don't mind paying but I can't seem to find any groups that have much in the way of Oldhammer Fantasy, it's all 40k. If anyone could help an anon out I'd appreciate it.>>98542206That would be greatly appreciated!
>>98541866Speaking of RT, is there a pedo eff hidden somewhere that has ye olde rulebook? Just the 1987 vintage?I saw I had all of WH40K 2nd scanned, but I am missing RT.Thanks!
>>98555315I have most of the most of the RT books if you have a telegram yeeA ton of of the WD's, terrain templates/old guides and a lot of the 2nd edition books too
>>98554707It's not a great time to be looking for new groups, most of the oldhammer ones are in lockdown due to either leakers or takedowns right now.>>98555315>pedo effI think you mean pedo Jeff? I think he lives on Israel now. Not sure what he's got to do with Rogue trader, though.
I've been chipping away at the 3d ed eldar project trying to recreate the studio armies. This is most of my Aliatoc now done.Might do some warwalkers and more guardians to flesh it out but for now moving on to the Ulthwe
>>98555763they look greatbit jelly of you guys, like the anons who also posted their old eldar in last thread, esp. the RT onesI don't have much space to store and to play with them, so I've been thinking of getting an army of them in 15mm instead

>>98555763I really wanna try an Alaitoc army in 4th.
>>98556858... and take back one kadam to honour the Hebrew god whose ark this is.
Still working on that templars list, are land raiders really that bad in 4th? They are quite expensive, but also damn they're really cool. Same goes for dreadnoughts. Right now the two lists I'm looking at are basically either rhino+crusader spam with 2 vindicators and a predator or a list with the land raider and dreadnought but less infantry. Also took the advice from last time and got rid of my leader upgrades, they were taking up so many points.
>>98558366>Same goes for dreadnoughtsThe problem started in 2nd Edition and lasted until 8th Edition, at which point Dreadnoughts were given profiles with Toughness and Wounds again. Ironically, they had these in Rogue Trader, and it was the shift to vehicle roolz that made them weaker than comparable units like Carnifexes and Wraithlords.
>>98558366Raiders aren't bad on their own. It's more that most games are ~1500 points, so they're a screaming shitload of points tied up in something a lucky krak missile or lascannon shot can remove. In 4e, you can no longer just bail out and immediately assault unless it's a Crusader, the doors are very blockable, and there are a lot more melta troops out there. Crusaders are still dangerous as fuck because of the 15-man capacity and the frags, especially with Inquisitorial or independent character support for a grunt, no-jetpacks assault squad. The best possible rhino funtimes are mounting a superkrak on it for infinite range tankbusting, smokes, and a squad with a heavy flamer and a second Assault weapon. Tank shock the sides of a couple units, jam them together, and say your Domine Salve Nostras as you pull the triggers. If you have immolators so much the better.>DreadsDreads were fucking broken in 3e and got a needed patch in 4e. They're still very, very good at accurate support fire but you can no longer infinitely tie up enemy units in melee with a Dread they can't injure as it slowly whittles them down and blocks LoS to a quarter of the battlefield. As support in 4e they give you a shitload of long-ranged and midrange options for the simple price of an Elite slot and the points cost of a single marine combat squad...Yes I'm a Sisters and Inquisitorial cultist player with Marines on the side, why are you asking?
>>98563273>you can no longer just bail out and immediately assault unless it's a CrusaderYou can assault from any land raider, it's baked into the core rules.
Does anyone remember which White Dwarfs have battle reports with Tyranids? From the 3rd and 4th editions.

Warhammer Quest warriors coming out well for those lads that have been following my WHQ painting Quest.
>>98548735I'd rather buy an original.
Got a 3rd ed Combat Patrol day this weekend at the local joint. Taking the ol' Iron Snakes along and need to paint and build a couple things for it all. Last night I magnetised and started getting my jump pack commander painted, his assault squad also getting a bit of work. I should have them all done this afternoon. After that I need to knock out a razorback, which should be too hard, just tedious. I have some a papercraft kit that nicepy turns into templates for plasticard construction, if I don't dawdle too much I might even have it built AND base coated tonight for details tomorrow!
>>98571595Wait is it bad? It seems like a rather strong little unit to me. That demolisher cannon seems brutal.
>>9857449324" range is a lot more of a handicap than it seems on a 48x72 table. 11 side armor is also a hell of a liability when you have so much of your movement dictated by gun range - even heavy bolters are a threat. You're burning at least 20% of your points on just those three Vindies. Marines have a pretty stacked heavy/support section, they're locking out a bunch of more interesting or flat-out more useful stuff (like Whirlwinds).
>>98574493>Wait is it bad?No, not really. What I meant is spamming large S10 AP2 pieplates is overkill for your opponent. That said, what the other anon said is fair and true. That strategy would work better with Russ Demos since they get better armor and a turret (meaning immobilized results no longer cripple your firing arc).
Yo /grog/ my Aliexpress Search-fu is lacking. I can't seem to find a spot to get a nice big pack of 16mm scatter dice for me to share with friends and have replacements if I lose any.I can take some suggestions. I know GW sells them, but I am not interested in much on the webstore at the moment to justify ordering some Warhammers then throwing in some scatter dice.>>98574018>those washesAnon are the sayings that devlan mud and badab black are very close color wise to the ArmyPainter washes strong tone and dark tone still true? Same for the other washes?
>>98567862Yeah probably.I must ask, are you getting into 4th with pure intent in your heart? Just make something like this lad
>>98575756>Anon are the sayings that devlan mud and badab black are very close color wise to the ArmyPainter washes strong tone and dark tone still true?>Same for the other washes? They were dead on, the ones in the old bottles. Now, I'm not sure if the new labels are just that, a label refresh or if they've done new formulations for the washes in their range.
Managed to rope a new player to our 2nd ed group and we played again the Battle for the Armageddon tutorial scenario one. Such a fun game and he'll be back again for sure.
>>98575796Fair enough then.Hopefully the reformulated washes are still good.I'm now sure what mid brown or flesh were supposed to mimic but I'm a little disappointed that mid-brown got discontinued. It was pretty close to reikland fleshshade I think. ArmyPainter probably removed it to somewhat "distance themselves" from being GW close enough proxy paints if that makes sense. But they brought back flesh wash so maybe they're gonna bring back mid brown.

>>98575789That's a really odd army composition. What is this lone termie doing there? And two commanders? No heavy support? Weird. Solid paintjob tho.
>>98578041>What is this lone termie doing there? And two commanders? No heavy support? Weird.Looks like a Terminator squad, two low-end Heroes, and a Terminator Hero for 2e. Spitballing it, looks like a ~1,000 point list depending on warger. Still legal in 3e as a ~500-point list with a Leader and possibly a Leiutenant and some very basic wargear, with each combat squad counting as a single Troop choice. The second "leader" with bionics could wind up being an Apothecary or low-level Techmarine in 2e depending on how you want to sling points, but three Captains wouldn't take you over the 50% Characters limit with how limited the wargear and Support selection is.
>>98575952Nice army you painted.
>>98571617Just keep in mind the ranger disruption table is bullshit. 11 rolls on that is utter cancer.Pathfinders will also be very punishing to elite armies. You will need decent antitank and some crowd control

Man I'd love one of the 54mm Fighting Fantasy miniatures, GW's actual first ever plastics.Unfortunately they've gone from a £10-20 curiosity on eBay to £60+ each for some reason. Would be nice to have one as a 28mm giant.

I remember seeing an Exorcist converted from the old Whirlwind kit before GW release the actual Exorcist kit, anyone know what I'm talking about? It might've been in Citadel Journal, Troll or a foreign White Dwarf.
>>98584384There was the Forge World one, I think I recall the one you mean though it was in a non-studio White Dwarf battle report, with the old metal Whirlwind launcher
>>98584384>>98584652Actually I'm chatting shit. From White Dwarf 293 there was a Tau v Witch Hunters battle report, but as you can barely see (can't find a decent scan right now) it's got Land Speeder Typhoon arms with plastic Hunter Killer missiles, and a Forge World Repressor dozer blade
>>98584384>>98584652There's the "basically a Whirlwind" Forge World kit from 2002, the old metal pipe organ kit from 2004, and the current kit from 2020. Lexicanum has a miniatures portal that's good for figuring out what is just a rebox of an older mold.
>>98584715Oh yeah I know all that but I think he's right, there was maybe a conversion using these metal parts.Like when you could buy the various metal bits to build a Sisters Dreadnought from the Citadel Journal
Cool stuff from Dogtoof Miniatures
>>98584753Yeah, that's what I meant.
>>98584384I'm 95% confident I know what you're talking about, but I have no idea where I might find said image.
>>98584698Oh yeah.
>>98584384I had a slightly different take. Flight and 25mm bases, a curved bead, a shot glass, window arches from Bulkheads, ass-plates from 4 Whirlwind launchers, an Imagifier icon, and assorted Brett bits. Also made a Repressor with spare vehicle sprue bits kitbashed into the pintle heavy flamer, windows carved off of spare rhino doors, and a stretch job on the Rhino chassis with plasticard.

>>98587714At the time I really gave up when it became 1/3rd Lord of the Rings filler material. Not that LotR was bad, just that it wasn't interesting to read about and it was obvious it was gonna be a short lived bubble of interest whilst the movies were a thing. But you can really feel the soullessness creep in harder and harder through the Fat Bloke era as it goes on. For true GROG purposes, stop at the end of 2nd edition 40k or 5th ed. WHFB and just get Chapter Approved compilations, the various other magazines they put out (there's some great stuff in there, don't neglect Inferno! or the game specific ones that had short runs) and the Citadel Journal is of critical importance to really carry on the spirit of what made WD good in the first place and does not get nearly enough credit.

Hey anons. I'm pretty sure this is the right place to ask. I recently bought myself a copy of Rogue Trader, I'm having a blast reading through it and all its myriad descriptors and lore portions, but I'm having a hard time finding people to even start having a conversation about playing the game with, so I'm just going to go solo for now. But is there a generally agreed upon best way of building lists? I've been finding the process rather difficult, there's a lot to chew through. Is there maybe an army builder or something out there? Any help would be great.
>>98604978>But is there a generally agreed upon best way of building lists? If you actually want to play Rogue Trader in a way that is more like a wargame than a role-playing skirmish game with large numbers of dis-similar models on each side, GW published several First Edition army lists in White Dwarf and in some of the other related books like Chapter Approved: The Book of the Astronomican.Chapter Approved has early lists for Space Wolves, White Scars, Eldar Space Pirates, and Rogue Trader retinues. The two Realm of Chaos books - Slaves to Darkness and The Lost and The Damned - cover all the ruinous powers of Chaos, plus Sensei warbands and the original Grey Knight Space Marines roolz.White Dwarf 105 had a generic Space Marine army list in it, but that was later revised and expanded when it was reprinted in the Red Compendium. That book also has lists for Squats and the Imperial Guard, plus roolz for tanks, robots, and dreadnoughts.Orks got their own suite of books: 'Ere We Go, Freebooterz, and Waaargh The Orks. The Yellow Compilation has Panzees and two different Genestealer armies - both a Chaos Cult and an "Invasion Force". It also has special roolz for one-off squads of Grey Knights in Terminator Armour, plus trial roolz that did things like introducing the concept of Overwatch and increasing the base Toughness of Space Marines from 3 (!!!) to 4.
>>98605342I can see why 2nd Edition came to be...
>>98604978Rogue Trader certainly can do a larger game set up, but I would encourage you to try it on the core books terms first. Use the info in it as guidelines to stat out whatever you need and put together two small opposing forces of say, a dozen models a side, come up with an objective and run a game. It really shines as a low level skirmish game.
>>98604978A good level of scenario to try out something with Rogue Trader is to use what's in the main book and think small, but not Necromunda small. Like think a bunch of Space Pirates (couple of mobs with some characters and not too much in the way of big weapons) raid a downed shuttle they think is full of good shit, only to have to contest it with a bunch of Ork pirates (smaller unit cos they're tougher and probably have better guns than the pirates) and maybe there's some kinda monster or robot in the shuttle as a complication that pops up. Simple, compact, in character. The army lists themselves are ehhh... Well, you look at the Imperial Guard one for instance and it requires the best part of a thousand points worth of basic infantry before you can even consider doing anything else, and a lot of that is mandated by a squad format that doesn't line up with later editions, with loads of lascanon and grenade launchers (as a heavy weapon) eating points. And then you have tons of random generation that is sort of there as a balancing method that doesn't work because it's to give you a chance of getting certain equipment. Or amounts of certain characters/units. I'll put it like this: the army lists I find are there to really give you a pool of units from which to draw from for games. Think of them not as a here's my 2k points of Stuff for A Game, let's have an even battle (they're crap for that, the game balance doesn't exist without extensive moderation), but rather; here's my overall force (named group of idiots), from which I draw these units with this particular command section for this scenario. You still play scenarios, you just have the lists there to structure better what your units look like than what the main rulebook provides.

What is the best Oldhammer retro-clone?I get that this question may ruffle some feathers among purists but it's not a bait. I'm simply curious if there are any successful attempts of improving the original formula and introducing quality-of-life changes. I'm mostly interested in 2e and 3e alternative rulesets.
>>98608958Man, I wish we could get together for some games. I haven't painted any Eldar models in years!
>>98609818Unless you're in south East Queensland its probably not happening.Painting the different craftworlds has been interesting, using the 2td ed army deals has been great motivation.
>>98611087>Unless you're in south East Queensland its probably not happening. No, I'm in south-central Burgerland (Texas, specifically), so that's a bit of a drive. I do have a mate who lives in Chermside, though, which is on the outskirts of Brisbane. As you might imagine, he and I have never had the opportunity to play a game of 40K against each other.
>>98609143The only two I'm aware of at all are by the same author, Clash on the Fringe and Renegade Scout. Renegade Scout is the truer clone of the two, it's essentially cleaned up Rogue Trader.
>>98611889>Renegade ScoutIt uses the authors unified space setting, which is shit, so prepare for a lot of renaming units and factions etc
When did guard platoons stopped being a thing? i found my old models and i kind of want to make a kind of universal army for playing 3/4th and probably some flavour of later midhammer
>>98613552>When did guard platoons stopped being a thing?8e.
>>98611889>it's essentially cleaned up Rogue Trader.Does it use a GM? I don't even see the point in using Rogue Trader if you aren't leaning hard into the Skirmish RPG side of the game, 2nd was much better as a wargame.
>>98611087>>98611184>When you find a similar mind but live a world apartThat is really the problem, you dont find players neaby or have a problem to convince your friends to play that game. And thats why 40k got so big. At least it panders to a bigger audience.
>>98614927>thats why 40k got so bigYeah being so ubiquitous and easy to find games was definitely the biggest strength. >>98616784>Not sure how gws policy of no in store games will impact that long term.Is that policy in another country that's *not* Burgerland? >>98617260I'm sure they're above average in size, anon, don't be too self conscious about it.Besides, it's not about the size of your banner, but rather how hard it inspires your allies.
>>98609818>>98617260Is it just me or are those the best game squad sizes? The armies you field really got blown up.
>>98620435Haha anon please, those are just additions Im working on. I know full well Im never going to field all +8000 points of marines I will eventually have in total. Platoon sized is the best IMO, roughly 800 points give or take depending on what kind of game is played. We usually play 500 point battles with just regular troops and light vehicle without psykers or heroes. Those tend to be quite tight battles where all models get to do their thing. Once a guardsman with flamer held the line and won the game. Single chimera is always a huge threat in small games. Horde of 20 grots have won the game multiple times. We also make our games more interesting by hiding our objectives and making game last 3+D3 turns, which is rolled at the end of turn 3 so you cant be sure how long you have to fight for objective. We also make our lists by taking turns to pick one unit until points are used.
>>98620435>best game squad sizesThis seems about right.

In general we try to use overwatch more reasonably like pre announcing its use instead of doing it like a rugpull

>>98628937I got a guy who does old whfb in metal, but he is strictly not taking new customers atm. He flew too close to the sun and needed to rebrand and lie low. Sorry I can't help, anon.
So last week I had played in a 40k3rd edition combat patrol day. Real casual attitude event to get the 3rd ed guys in the region familiar with each other. I took my Iron Snakes, games were bumped to 600 points with the usual restrictions and I am happy to report I walked away with 2 wins and only a single loss, which for anyone familiar with my battles is well outside the norm! But the best part of it all, was I made some new gaming friends. Hopefully more games can be arranged and more little events can be had to make it all grow.I'll share a bunch of my photos of the day, sadly I was feeling a bit checked out by game three and didn't think to take any photos of it, which is a shame, because my opponent had a really beautifully painted Imperial Fists army.First photo of my first game against a world eaters warband. It was a blood bath of a battle but I was able to scrape out a win, kept the chaos lieutenant away from my marines by taking him on a merry chase with one of my landspeeder tornados. That wasn't the intention, I had wanted to gun him down but my rolls weren't too hot and his armour saves were too good.
>>98629338Rhino and ruins full of berserkers! I formed a gunline and let them come to me, all the while shooting them for every inch of ground, it worked fairly well until the survivors crashed into my lines, and the one plasma gunner overheating himself to death.
>>98629347Proud sons of Ithaka, standing defiant against the arch enemy! I really rate the tornado in 3rd, a lot of nice firepower in a very fast package. It might pale in comparison to the 4e assault cannon but rending in that edition was OP as shit, everything feels like a downgrade in that comparison.
>>98629356I crippled their rhino here, forced them out and too run towards me instead, reaped a bloody toll on bother squads of berserekers, but damn, they put out a lot of attacks, even the bloodied left overs were able to almost wipe my tacticals out.
>>98629361As seen here, Squad Nestor was getting savaged by the berserkers from the ruins, and Squad Mykanos fared little better, they even lost their plasma gunner to an overheat while they tried softening up the rhino mounted berserkers.
>>98629373Bloody bastards even managed to down the land speeder in a multi charge.
>>98629441my plan was to shoot them as they came and the mop up the survivors with my jump pack commander, Theodosius, and his accompanying assault squad, Squad Akrisios. Which is how it played out, my tactical squad survivors broke and retreated to rally next turn or get caught for another round of combat by pursuers. Squad Akrisios jumped into the fight with the larger squad of surviving berserkers with assistence from the rallied Squad Nestor and managed to wear them down in two turns of fighting, on the other side Command Theodosius charged into the running battle with the survivors of Squad Mykanos, wiping off the last 2 berserkers from the rhino and winning me the game.
>>98629458Next game was against a force of Executioners, this guy was putting together a 3e Badab War force and these were the models most painted up from that project. We rolled the Cleanse mission and I had changed my list to one swapping the land speeders for a squad of veterans with a plasma gun and vet sergeant with power sword as well as upgrading the assault squad to vet sergeant with power weapon.I changed lists because I thought I had broken the list building rules, but it turns out the force org slot caps we thought were in effect weren't explicitly written, they're just defacto from the usual points cap. It's all whatever in the end, really, but I felt it necessary to correct things at the time. Armies in this were an almost mirror match, with casualties low until the assault squads started reaching their targets, then the blood started running.
>>98629469Executioner's assault marines and commander hit my lines and butcher Squad Mykanos, Notable Squad Phaon(my veterans) prepare for close quarters in response. Squad Nestor and Phaon proceed to blast these guys in their turn and take out most of the assault marines, but the commander persisted and made a mess of these guys. It wasn't until I had taken out the missile launcher dudes in the back with my commander and assault marines that I could fly back and deal with him.
>>98629476Commander and friends a little scratched up, but still eager for the fight!
>>98629482Enemy commander locks blades with Notable Squad Phaon!
>>98629495...and end up about as expected.
>>98629501Climax of the battle came at the end, I had just gotten my commander and his assault marines in place to assault and stop the executioners commander, I also threw squad Nestor into the fight to try and seal the deal. In the end it was down to both commanders, both being initiative 5 they fought first and ended up mutually killing each other. A blinding flash of blades and it was all over. Magnificent~!And that ends my recording of events. Game three was a night fight mission that ended in my loss, some very nice hits from the Fists whirlwind made short work of my assault marines and commander, and from that point it was just whittling each other down in sporadic firefights. Really wish I'd had the presence of mind to keep taking photos for that one, I cannot overstate how nicely painted that Imperial Fist army was.Next time might be another 3rd edition battle report or some more classic 2e, we'll see!
>>98629514Very nice anon, thanks for posting
>>98629514Great battlereports anon, I wish you many more games of 2e and 3e.
>>98608958Added naadhu and some vypers.
>>98634383Ive been meaning to add that vyper with character platform too for my saim hann but I want to use that harlequin vehicle instead of dark eldar one. Looks good tho
>>98634801Yeah I have one laying around spare now, it's too big for Naadhu I think.
>>98634895ooh its that much bigger huh, didn't know about that. Thanks, I need to rethink this then
>>98634801Cheers I used the new limited autarch as a base but ended up swapping to a bare head and simpler power weapon.
>>98635509I ordered a box of the HH saturnine terminators recently with the idea of converting them into cataphract class robots for oldhammer gaming. Though I reckon at the size of the models I'm working with they'll feel a bit under armed, the saturnine kit is almost as tall as the old plastic dreadnought. So what's everyone else working on or have planned out?
>>98640418>saturnine>cataphract classThats a neat idea, im keen to see it.And yeah the size creep is wild.Im currently assembling some of the new eldar jetbikes, going to replace the riders with some finecast shining spears i had laying about. Then in no paticular order:Finish 15 striking scorpions, another firedragon exarch and start 30 2nd ed direavengers.Armorcast eldar knight for 2nd ed Iyanden Wild rider chief and 4 riders for 3rd ed saimhann2 metal warwalkers and 20 guardians for the Aliatoc.A firestorm for the ulthwe. And a pair of falcons, 20 guardians and some metal jetbikes to start the bieltan. And once thats done pick a flavour to start my corsairs
>>98640656Sounds like a hell of an eldar collection! A corsair army would be a fun one to add to the pile, but I already have my orks who I'm styling as freebootas, so I'd rather not double up on pirate themes.
What is the main hub for the 2nd Edition community nowadays? I want to consoom more content like battle reports, reviews and army pics before fully committing.
>>98641077facebook has a pretty big group
>>98641077That bot looks like 3D printed. Did they had Orkbots in 2nd Edition?
>>98643947Man they had 2D printed "Orkbots" in 2nd
Running a techmarine with servo-harness and gun servitors is tempting because it's so soulful, but man it's really not worth the points.
>>98644684Get that waac-faggotry out of your mind and field them if you think they are cool.
>>98640710>double up on pirate themes. It makes me very sad you can't run freebootas and corsairs in the same list.
>>98645997I think you can in that citadel journal pirates army list.
>>98646051>citadel journal pirates army list.Nope
>>98646162Ah of course, makes sense. But hey at least you can make them fight each other
>>98644094Yes, printed. But i wasnt sure they had a mini till 3rd edition. I remember an article to kitbash your Orkbot.
Making guardsmen out of some warzone minis. Do these look like lasguns to you?
>>98648998sure, draw lightning bolt on the magazine to turn it into a battery pack and you're close enough
>>98648998Most of the warzone guns look like solid round autogun sorts to me but I wouldn't be precious about it it on the table. Counting x as y isn't a big deal when people communicate about it and aren't being cheesy.
>>98648998I think this anon's(>>98649022) idea of painting alighting bolt to signify the magazine is a power pack is a good and easy idea. I converted a bunch of those rifles into shutguns before and it's not the nicest plastic to work with, a bit harder to cut than what we're used to with GW plastics.
>>986489982nd Ed plastics or 3d prints?
Was there ever any more GW stuff stuff in 2000ad, or 2000ad related stuff done by GW?It feels like a British version of how Conan and Transformers have some history interlinked with Marvel
Waaaaagh! Dis thread is now claimed by da Orks! I miss the old days of 1st and 2nd ed, when you were encouraged to scratchbuild (and use!) vehicles made from plastic card and cardboard.
>>98655785Kinda-sorta? The comic anthology they did through Black Library, Warhammer Monthly, had a lot of 2000ad overlap, many writers and artists worked on both, they even got the man himself, Pat Mills, to write the Redeemer trilogy.
>>98658303I need to paint mine, they deserve it. That orange looks nice on them.
>>98655875Zoggin klassic trukksUsed to build similar ones out of plastic-card I got from the small model train shop, stole the wheels and other car bits random model cars
I played a game of 3rd edition 40k today, I took my Dark Eldar against a friends Witch Hunters. We played 1,000 points and fought a Cleanse Mission. This game taught me a lot of about timing and commitment of force, because my misjudgement of those things saw my little darkies get their shit pushed out from their mouths! Between the Talos bouncing right off the Penitent Engine, to the raiders all getting glanced to death, 2 of which managed to kill most of their embarked squads in the crashing, to my blaster and disintegrator shots whiffing in the crucial early game. Here's a shot of my friends beautifully painted witch hunters force, all new range models bar one Imperial preacher attached to the Repentia squad.
>>98661080I didn't pay all too much attention to photographing this game, I did get a good amount of shots, but nothing too coherent to the order of events. This shot's just my first turn movement, raiders and reavers push my left flank to try and overwhelm the battle sisters and repentia to get an early claim on the bottom left and contest the upper left and hopefully pick apart the inquisitor and his retinue. To my right I push my other raider squad and the archon and his retinue up the right, quite confident in my ability to butcher the units lurking in the ruins nearby.
>>98661091Correction, that's my second turn movement, this is after the Talos get its shit rocked by the penitent engine, now it's rushing my raider! He's going to hit them with a heavy flamer, cooking the raider crew, crashing the thing, and then burning the 3 surviving warriors to death, total squad wipe. This shot is the arbites and seraphim pushing the top right ruins to contest me, the seraphim glance the raider to death and get 5 warriors killed in the crash, however! The warriors will have their revenge and will destroy the seraphim in combat next turn! My archon disembarks with retinue in tow and gets ready for some slaughter!
>>98661113Nice little shot of the battle sister squad, I tried blasting them with a maximal power shot from the bottom left raiders disintegrator, would have been awesome with them all grouped together like that, but naturally I throw a fucking 2, this would be a repeat offender for all the other raiders while they're still in the air. Not a fucking one can hit the broad side of a barn.
>>98661121And here we come to one of the pivotal events of the battle, the seraphim charge and lose 2, hold their ground and the combat carries on into next turn, ultimately the warriors wear them down and force the sister superior to break and run. Honestly felt great to beat them with mere warriors. As for the Archon and his posse, I failed the difficult terrain roll to get through the gap in the wall and failed my charge, so they say there eating shotgun slugs and flamer fuel the next turn until they could pull themselves out of there and butcher the arbites.
>>98661125Another angle, this one looks sick as.
>>98661128Arco-flagellant's rush to this side and cut down the remaining warriors, who failed to gun these sumbitches down when they had the chance.
>>98661139The aftermath of all, Arbites dead, the warriors dead, the raider wrecked, now it comes down to the Archon and his boys. with this combat I clear the flagellant's from the field and shuffle out of the way of the inquisitor's gun servitors and their plasma cannon. Everything on my left had been shot or charged off the table. All that was left was the Archon, his surviving retinue, and one of the seraphim that had been captured after their defeat(Capturing prisoners army special rule) who should fetch a nice price to the arena in Commorragh(and he'll certainly need it to pay for a fresh raider fleet). With prisoner in tow, the webway opened up, the Archon quits the field to seethe evilly another day.
>>98661184Broader shot of the battlefield near the end of the game, the sole survivng reaver down the bottom gets blasted out the air with bolter fire.
>>98661185My pile of casualties. Typical toll for one of my games.
>>98661187>Everything painted but the bikesAre they a new addition or do you hate Dark Eldar Bikes? Thanks for your battle report + pics.
>>98661187God I love the old dark eldar bikes.
>>98661187>drinks on tableOtherwise pretty good, thanks for sharing
usually a xenos player but these old beakies got insane soul. How do marines play in 2e? I've only played orks in 2e
>>98662813It is funny how beak and firstborn are the helmets that have soul. That Primaris is just too nu-modern.
>>98555730Ah so that's what happened to my sorry ass! I remember having two TG groups sharing 40k oldhammer stl and when I went back to check today because I saved up the money for a decent printer... one was gone and the other one is kinda empty.Well, fuck me then.
>>98663114Some of the goofy RT artificer and early designs had some soul to them as well.
>>98663123Yeah, I can't understate just how useful it is to forward any and all remotely interesting files to your saved messages; they'll stay there even if the group gets nuked. It's definitely a bother, particularly if you have to look at every single message when joining a new group, but it'll bother you even more when you know there was a rare treasure in a group and it all got deleted, never to be seen again.
>>98663465Yep, I should have saved all those Rogue Trader era scan, clean up and remake posts. Found a new group 20 minutes ago with a lot of energy but it's not oldhammer specific + you have to ask for files + they autonuke themselves every 24 hours. I posted a request for 2nd edition Tyranid stl so we'll see.
>>98661683They're a new addition! I just lost steam on the darkies and started painting some other projects, but with 3e picking up steam I'll get back into painting these guys. I got more infantry in the wings as well as some modern 5e ravagers and some grotesque conversions that need priming.
>>98662813not a fan of space marines generally, only time I care for em is when they are evil and cool looking, but yeah I agree. Beakies just go so hard, and their models also typically being more animated looking also helps
>>98661187I can't clearly tell, are your warriors mixes of the old and "new" versions? They seem like it.
>>98617933Renegade Scout is RT/2nd crunch with Ivan's fluff and Rogue Hammer is Ivan's crunch with RT/2nd fluff.
>>98665164That's right! I built my warrior squads out of a mix of old 3e and newer 5e warrior bits. I started this army as a means of using stuff I already had instead of buying new shit and what I had was a bits box full of bits from my previous army from the 5e codex release. Both eras mix together beautifully, as you can see here.
>>98665579My Talos here is a conversion from a warmachine cryx engine, one of the little ones that I can't recall. Dressed up with an eldar jetbike canopy, vyper and necron parts for the tail and claw arms. Built it at the time for my army list because the Talos/Cronos pain engine kit wasn't part of the first wave 5th edition releases.
>>98663805Ok, well done so far. I send you 1000+ Internetpoints to get enough drive to paint the rest of your army.
>>98663123Yep. I make it a habit now that if I find a group sharing actually scans, I download ALL of them. It's a nightmare having to sort through them all and remove duplicates, but at least I've got them.
>>98658303Has anyone ever figured out the right way to glue in the metal Immolator doors?
>>98663805>new addition!Speaking of, I slapped some finecast shining spears onto the bikes I picked up from the combat patrol magazines.
>>98666026Those are looking great, man, nice work.
>>98665958
>>98646438They had a miniature from the tail end of first.
I wish gw just released old metals. make em incompatable with competitive, I dont care, I want my old horrors and raptors. Assholes on ebay want 60 bucks for just one of those guys, and its maddening
>>98665579yeah, nice job
>>98665238uhhh, I guess Rogue Hammer it is for me thenthanks
>>98666998You and me both, anon, all these fucks either treating their old collection pieces like gold or pokemon cards to flip depending on age bracket. Just scalpers and retirees all the way down. I'd love to be able to get an army of classic genestealer cultists, that's what I shoulda done in 2009 when the market wasn't blown the fuck out, but I didn't and now I have to just deal with it.
>>98666998>>98669732I don't own a 3D printer, but ... maybe there is another way!
>>98648998>Making guardsmen out of some warzone minis. Do these look like lasguns to you?Lasguns and autoguns have equivalent and identical rules in 40k 3. No-one willing to play 2e or RT will bitch if you use all autoguns instead of lasguns on Guard. If you really have to convert them, a small tube with a 45-degree angle on the end glued onto the barrel will make them indisputably lasguns. My Inquisitorial guard have a full platoon of Stormtroopers built off of the Ducal Militia with power cables running to their "hotshot lasguns", FWIW.>>98661080Fine taste, the most patrician.
>>98666998Look for 3d prints maybe?
>>98538272I've been begging on Telegram and I ended up with three times the amount of 2nd edition Tyranids stl we have in the pastebin trove. Is anyone in charge of the mega so we can update it? Or is the archivist long gone?
I remember hearing that the Phoenix Lords were designed as generic Exarchs, but is that true or is it jus extrapolated from their tabs saying "exarch"?
Reading through the second edition battle bible and is there even a point in taking a space marine tactical squad instead of 2 tactical combat squads?Taking 1 tactical:300 points, 10 marines. 1 sergeant can take 1 assault weapon, 1 marine can take 1 heavy weapon + 1 marine can take 1 special weapon.Taking 2 combat tactical:300 points, 10 marines. 2 sergeants can take 2 assault weapons (1+1), 1 marine can take 1 heavy weapon + 1 marine can take 1 special weapon OR 2 marines can take 2 heavy weapons (1+1) OR 2 marines can take 2 special weapons (1+1). So much more versatility.Plus when you take a tactical squad you can split it in 2x5 men group before the game starts but the unit without the sergeant can't use him for leadership test. The tactical combat squad have 2x5 men group where each group can rely on a sergeant for leadership test. What am missing here? Staying power by sucking up damage?
>>98673412I did bring up the same issue something like 8 months ago, it's safe to assume that the mega archive may well be abandoned at this point.Would a telegram archive group be a worthy pursuit? It could be a hassle, but tg is a lot less prone to dmca strikes, it's easier to forward new stuff as it gets found and we could keep things invite only to minimise any reports and spammers.
>>98674196I dont think youre allowed to cheese it that way. You can split it as usual but you cannot take two combat squads with their own sergeants and special weapons. Purpose of the rules is clearer than its wording. But why would I ever take full 10 man squad?Rapid fire.
>>98674196>>98674596Also you are minmaxin at complitely wrong place, look at how victory points are calculated instead. If you add anything at all into regular full tactical squad its victory points value goes up to 3 points. You dont want that, instead you should split it if you want to add any special of heavy weapons but without exceeding 200 points per combat squad since that would Also raide their victory points worth. Most important army to do this with is orks.
>>98666647Ok, thx. Cant find information or the article about this kitbash. Is it just a wrong memory?
>>98643947Yes.
>>98676562>Cant find information or the article about this kitbashMight be thinking of this one? These dreads did a few battle reports
>>98676902Yes, thats it. Big thanks. And after this they made the plastic kits. At least that was my memory that they had paper stand-in and people were instructed to kitbash them. Than they finaly had time to make official kits.>>98676572Yeah, thx. I never knew the metal kit.
>>98567392very nice
Here's my current Blood Angels force, all painted up. Only the Land Speeder is a recast and the Land Raider is DrSporks recreation, all other all originals.
>>98678288You're not me, but you might as well be. Your army is absolutely splendid! I love everything about it!
>>98678288One day I'll have a rt land raider of my own. One day.
>>98679115Face the truth, ywnbalro(You will never be a land raider owner)
>>98679115Does it have to be a vintage plastic one?
>>98585376I like that beeg magnus
>>98602537I've seen your stuff on /40kg/ and always wondered if you have any of fabius bile's dudes from 2E or 3E (i forget which). I have them as scans but that isn't as impressive as physical models
>>98603187Rocking goffs are really selling the mood. Where do they come from?
>>98567159Found it on Imgur, along with another campaign that the Aussie WD Team did. Is there any more fun stuff out there from international WD?https://imgur.com/user/TandarisOutbreakSaved2016
>>98680387Very sad and true>>98681113Yes
>>98681144Nah I dont have any of his bodyguard. It's the reason why I made the apothecaries in the first place. I'm sure I'll track them down some day though. It's great that scans and prints are a thing nowadays but I want to get the real thing. It's all a part of the hobby for me.
>>98682152>international WD?It's really only the Australians. As an example one of the Australian dwarfers created his own droppod, hand casted 200 of them and brought them to games day.
>>98682309I'm a Brit but the US White Dwarf also had periods of editiorial independence with their own articles. In both cases, I don't know if it's like the mystery of the slightly unknown, but it always seemed like they were "less safe" in their approach then the UK team and would publish some interesting stuff.
>>98681292>Where do they come from?Dey iz ... Goff Rok Band?
>>98682258Do you mean these?
>>98682158Man you'd have an easier time just getting some templates and scratch building one from plastic-card thenLike actually, or just getting a printed one, the cheapest I'm seeing for the US at least like 120 before shipping which is just insane
>>98683058Yup. I'll get some eventually.
>>98567862Clearly not enough demolisher cannons. You should make an Armoured Battlegroup so you can have a Demolisher HQ tank, 3 Demolisher Squadron Command Tanks and 3 heavy support Demolishers or Thunderers.
>>98684203As you can see, I got two sets. I have no use for them. I'd rather see them get a good home and proper paintjob.
>>98682258>but I want to get the real thing. It's all a part of the hobby for me.Fair enough, if I had the means to easily access these minis I wouldn't rely on scans. What's your process for making these apos? Especially the greenstuff I'm very curious
>>98684841>I had the means to easily access these minisSame here. I'll buy whatever is accessible to me, but living far from the Anglosphere, prices can get rather prohibitive very quickly. Scans aren't perfect, but they definitely provide an easier access to Oop stuff and a convenient, if flawed, way of archiving wargaming history.
>>98684989Personally I'm using scans to make 2E armies to play with my non wargaming buddies as something fun to do. I'm torn between Space Wolves and Dark Angels for the marines to collect desu, don't know whether vikings or knights appeal more to normies. I'm def gonna make a chaos and eldar army though
>>98684413Very nice of you to offer but I'm most likely on the other side of the globe. People might not expect sweden to be very active when it comes to wargaming but I've actually been able to source 90% of my oldhammer stuff locally from our own secondhand sites. I'll find some if I keep looking.>>98684841The process isn't anything special. I had a few leftover 2E-3E apothecaries that I started with. With some effort I removed their heads and other bits and added appropriate csm bits. Then I made the skin coats and I tried to be as close to Biles one as I could. I'm no super gifted sculptor or anything so I just put the green stuff right on there and scored in the separate skin sections. Then I let it cure, sanded it carefully and finished by coating the gs in a bit of super glue. Strange maybe but it helps give the skin coats a smoother, uniform texture.
>>98685567That's sick man, thanks for detailing the process, I was just uber curious. I kinda wanna make my 2E guys unique but no idea where to start. Got any other pics of your force?
>>98685590This >>98567397 is all I've painted so far but I have one of everything except the Bile bodyguards, 3rd editon possessed and, of course, a land raider.
>>98685590>no idea where to startMaybe pick a theme or a character from the lore and go from there?
>>98685625>>98567397Sick>>98685726Yeah... I'll think of something
>>98685726NGL I was originally thinking of doing Black Legion for my chaos guys but IDK what theme I could do for them that'd make 'em stand out, maybe I should do NLs or AL since I like those as well. WBs could be funny though, too many choices!
>>98685567>swedenWell I'm in Finland, so not that far away. I've also bought lot of stuff domestically, warhammer really kicked off in my town in late 90's thanks to local gamestore skyrocketing in popularity. These CSMs I got from my dad who hoarded those blue bargain bin boxes that GW used to make.
>>98686272A fun thing to do with Black Legion is to just paint armour panels on them from different legions. So the guy with the heavy bolter was once an Iron Warrior, while the guy who's aggressively posed was part of the World Eaters, and the guy who has the Nurgle Banner was once a Night Lord (he really likes the impaled corpse).Just sprinkle them into your squads for extra flavour, spot colours, and when you're bored of painting black and brass.
>>98688793Oh shit this is an excellent idea, thanks!
I'm back with another 3rd edition battle report! Dark Eldar vs. Imperial Guard, 1,000 points fighting (yet again) a Cleanse Mission. I'll be summarizing the turns in-between pic dumps. We set up a nice ruined town and decided the narrative of our battle. The world of Uriah IV has recently come under attack from ork freebootas breaking off from a passing space hulk that emerged into the Uriah system 6 months prior. The war to cleanse them from the system had been going well enough, but system defense forces haven't been able to fully dislodge or destroy the main freeboota vessels, 2 of which hang in orbit over the the capital and main agri-zone of Uriah IV. It is in the agri-zone that sees our story take place, for while PDF forces have cleared this sector and have moved to secure the township of Morgan's Bounty, mopping up isolated pockets of ork pirate resistance and rendering aid to the civilian population where found. All of this and more happening across the system makes for the perfect cover for the Kabal of the Ebon Rose to make a slaving expedition! Archon Cra'ozagrath leads his retinue of raiders into the region, hoping to load up on mon'keigh and ork for the haemonculi and arena pits respectively. Emerging from the webway and into sight of the mon'keigh defenders, Cra'ozagrath can't help but salivate at the profits this run will generate.>DeploymentFrom the bottom right quarter I deploy my Talos right next to the middle point of the table, taking a commanding position and denying the guardsmen from trying to box me in for a shooting gallery. Raider squads 1 and 2 take up position forward and back-left respectively with the archon's personal transport protected by ruins and raiders, my reaver squads deployed one behind the Talos and the other on my left flank. PDF deploy HQ section in the back of their quarter with mortars, platoon A deploys in front of the large ruin occupied by HQ, with the leman russ just behind them.1/many.

>>98691466>Turn 1 and 2 summary.PDF starts with moving forward from their home quarter, and pushing into their left hand quarter with each platoon and armour support, mortar squad behind the large ruin probes the range and comes up short but gains critical gauge of the battlefield. Platoon A will suffer badly from dark eldar shooting over these early turns, having A1 squad break and run from unerringly accurate splinter cannon fire, while the command section will range too far forward and get shot and gutted to death by the reaver squad on the edge of the sandstone coloured office ruins. While A2 squad will be rushed and butchered by the reavers coming up from the central street. Platoon A command section gets overrun and the reavers who ended them plow onwards into the ratlings who had hoped to rush to a better position in the office ruins. Platoon B pushes into the neighboring quarter unconstested until the Talos emerges from around the corner, blasting wildly with its stinger guns. B1 squad holds their ground despite taking the brunt of casualties, while the command section breaks and runs after sustaining heavy casualties, meanwhile the sentinels both prove ineffective in their shooting, missing their targets or failing to wound in the case of the Talos.Dark Eldar rush their reavers forward, turbo boosting the squad near to the office ruins and the other through their main street and into the boulevard occupied by Platoon A, Raider squads move forward and lend fire into clearing the PDF platoon or moving into stand-by as the battle develops, the Archon moves up to the middle of the table ready to commit to the fighting when the time is right. Talos hovers around the admin building ruins and into the next street, unleashing hell with its stinger guns and pushing forward, scattering Platoon B's command and inflicting appreciable casualties on the infantry squads. Both reaver squads route or kill Platoon A.
>>98691624>Summary cont. The second Raider squad breaks off from position by the burnt out machine shop and skims over the crumbled rooftops to take position in the alley as the Talos does its bloody work, hoping the flank the PDF and secure the table quarter once the mopping up is done.2/6

>>986917036/6! Turn 1+2 done, new summary and pic dump incoming!
>>98691709>Turns 3 and 4 summary.PDF open up with an attempt to rally and strike back, the fleeing remnants of Platoon A, Squad 1 managed to rally and get back into the fight, just in time to witness their comrades in Squad 2 get cut down and see the reavers shrieking their way, the leman russ rumbles backward from the reavers who had just wiped up the ratlings and hoses them down with heavy bolter fire, killing 2 and forcing them to break and run(this works out well for me, as I'd needed to send something back to claim my home quarter) The good times don't stop there, as the sentinel behind cover nails Raider squad 1s raider with a lascannon bolt the destroys it, sending it careening into the fence of the little courtyard, the crash results in 6 warriors dying with the 4 survivors crawling out of the wreckage and into a defensive position, they'll exchange fire for the rest of the game. Platoon B holds their ground and attempts to down the Talos with melta and plasma fire, however this proves ineffective, as shots either fail to wound or in one case the plasma overheats and kills its operator. Sentinel also misses its shot and prepares for the onslaught until it get flanked by the second Raider squad and get blaster fire in its leg mechanism, immobilizing it!The Dark Eldar push their advantage, the Talos barrels into the PDF troopers crushing, gutting and eviscerating 6 guardsmen, while the Archon finally decides it's time to commit, launching forward across the boulevard to drop down in front of the mortar pit to later charge the HQ section. Platoon B's troubles continue as the archon's raider levels its disintegrator at B2 squad and, well, disintegrates 5 of them. Stubbornly they hold on and pass their morale check only to be slammed into by the Talos' sweeping advance. By turn 4 the Archon and his retinue are wiping down their blades as they kill or subdue the HQ section, routing and running them down in a flurry of blades and viscera.1/6

>>986918464/6This is my favourite shot of the game, The Archon and retinue are absolutely monstrous. And I didn't even try to make my lord into a real combat monster, either!

>>98691886>Turns 5 and 6 summary, clean up and consolidation. With the Archon and his retinue having successfully launched an assault the PDF HQ section, killing and capturing the colonel, his staff and the mortar section, time had come to reposition, boarding their Raider and boosting down the boulevard toward the cover of the office block ruins. The reavers who had overrun into the rallied remains of Squad A1 proceed to mop them up, running down the survivors and then getting into position behind the shipping containers next to the Leman Russ, hoping to tear it apart with their blasters, unfortunately for them the Russ repositions and goes hulldown towards them(not a great worry for the blaster, but side and rear shots are always better!), and while amped up on hyperadrenaline and omni-amphetamine they prove a little too shaky with their aim, making their shots ineffective. This now leaves them open and ready for punishment as they get blasted by the russ as it shifts its position and unleashes fusilades of heavy bolter fire, lascannon beams, and battle cannon shells. Shattering the unit and sending the lone survivor fleeing back to my board edge. This isn't as bad as it looks, as now having rolled well for fleeing, I rallied next turn to then sweep into its rear armour. The depleted raider squad finally take down the sentinel they'd been exchanging fire with and blow it to kingdom come, its wreck then scatted 5 inches towards them, cinematically crashing down into their position as they all leap and dive out of the way. I had also disembarked the Archon and retinue and pushed them up to take his Agoniser to the damn thing, but that proved unnecessary, so back they went to their cover in the ruins in turn 6. The Leman Russ defiantly turned on the spot again and prepared a last barrage, but it ultimately doesn't matter. Concentrated blaster and max power disintegrator fire from the archons raider wear it down and immobilize it.1/4

>>986921044/4!In the end the Kabal of the Ebon Rose stand victorious, all PDF in the area are either dead or captured and being shipped backed to the Kabals holdings for processing for the Commorragh slave markets and haemonculi covens in their client lists. And not only that, but the entire sector is now ripe for the taking! By the time the Imperials reinforcements there won't be even a single soul to be found...What a fucking match! Last week I was getting buggered by the witch hunters and learning just how crucial timing and commitment of force is for 3e Dark Eldar and now this week I put those lessons into practice for an overwhelming victory! This is perhaps also my most lopsided win ever. With only losing 1 raider, 6 warriors, and 5 reaver jetbikes across all 6 turns, I am utterly surprised at how smoothly things went, there was a moment when I felt my decision to commit in turn 2 was a mistake when my raider squad in the middle got shot down, but it worked out, my opponent got real unlucky with his shooting from that point on.My opponent would have benefited from playing more defensively at the start, starting A platoon -in- the craters would have been a good start, getting those cover saves would have seriously blunted me first strike that sent A1 squad running. Another thing would have been being more aggressive in his mortar guesses at the start, first volley he guessed 24 inches while I was still pretty bunched up in my deployment, if he'd pushed to 35" or so this'd be a much different game. Pushing out and getting his men into the ruins would have been a better move, too, B platoon was just in the open and if they'd have gotten into that ruined office I'd have been bogged down trying to dig them out and could have been beaten back.My maneuverability within the city ruins was the biggest factor in this win, being able to skim over the ruins really opened things up for me. Nothing was safe from me.
>>98692199My jetbikes are still unpainted, the Archon's raider, too. And the Incubi are still very roughly basecoated, the Talos too could do with more work. I've been on a bit of a hobby bender painting some of my classic warzone stuff(Imperials and Mishima) lately. But after tonight's game I am buzzing, going to sideline the corpos and get the offending Deldar units onto the painting table this weekend.
Sell me on WFB 3rd edition. Why should I stick with the oldhammer rather than get balls-deep into the midhammer kino of 6th edition?
Is the Big Mek supposed to be able to replace his shooting weapon with Kustom Mega Blasta when wearing Mega Armour in 4th edition codex?
>>98692966You probably shouldn't, warhammer peaked at 6th, and 3rd is basically an overly complex clusterfuck that even its designer isn't a fan of. And anything good from it you can houserule into 6th. Or already exist in some form for 6th as supplementary stuff (citadel journal, white dwarf articles, online stuff, fan made army books, scenarios and so on).
>>98692966>Why should I stick with the oldhammer rather than get balls-deep into the midhammer kino of 6th edition?Purely for the charm of the black-and-white line drawings accompanying each unit entry.
>>98693452>>98693566Ah, it does sound discouraging indeed. I have this big plan of playing a proper game of 40k 2nd edition this year and maybe even stick with it for a while. I thought I should have an accompanying oldhammer edition of Fantasy as well since I actually have models already.
>>98694190Don't worry, if anything Rogue Trader and 3rd edition are the sister editions, they're even kind of cross compatible.
>>98694244What is the WFB equivalent of 40k 2nd edition in terms of rules design and "vibes"? Is there one even?
>>98694244>they're even kind of cross compatible.IIRC, the roolz in Warhammer Siege and the Realm of Chaos books are meant for both Rogue Trader and 3rd Edition WHFB.
>>98692966Pros>The system has rules for pretty much everything >Army building can be a lot less restrictive, at times it feels more like a suggestion >The game works a lot better with a GM and playing narrative scenarios>The rules leave a lot of things up to interpretation and the players are expected to fill in the blanks in many cases>The realm of chaos books are two of the best Warhammer books to ever existCons>The system has rules for pretty much everything >Army building can be a lot less restrictive, at times it feels more like a suggestion >The game works a lot better with a GM and playing narrative scenarios>The rules leave a lot of things up to interpretation and the players are expected to fill in the blanks in many cases>The realm of chaos books are incredibly clunky on the table, you're gonna need to pick and choose which individual sections to use, resolve rules conflict and homebrew enough that porting them to a later edition instead wouldn't be any more effort. It's a fun game that shows its age. Has many good ideas and lots of jank. If anything, you should give it a try as a history lesson, if you like it, then keep going. The good thing is that it really doesn't require anything that you don't already have for other editions, unlike the 4-5th card and token extravaganza, so it isn't an investment. The fellas at Ramshackle Games have a quick reference sheet on their webpage, it's made to play realms of chaos warband games, but it is a handy bit of reference.>>98694277That would be 4th edition. They're definitely different games and not as compatible as RT/3e, but they're the first edition of either game that released after GW's restructuring. I'd say they're more related aesthetically than ruleswise, but they're definitely sister editions.>>98694335Yup, you can even use some stuff from one system in the other, such as chainswords, power armour and bolters as chaos rewards.
>>98694543>The game works a lot better with a GM and playing narrative scenariosI always wondered, how is that so? What is GM bringing to the table that can't be covered by the two players already involved?>The realm of chaos books are two of the best Warhammer books to ever existI actually have both Realm of Chaos books and a Rogue Trader book as well that I got myself as a souvenir during my trip to Tokyo. Unfortunately, I never played RT though. It feels so archaic and overwhelming no one in my playgroup was willing to bother with it. >unlike the 4-5th card and token extravaganza, so it isn't an investment. It doesn't bother me at all. I'm used to printing cards and designing my own tokens for 3D printing at this point.
>>98694821>What is GM bringing to the table that can't be covered by the two players already involved?ntaImpartiality helps, even when people are friends having an outside perspective gives narrative games and campaigns more flexibility and surprise elements with things like hidden information map movement, monsters emerging from the tombs on the table that attack whoever disturbs them, things like that.
Are there any decent clones of old Warhammer editions or has every take on improving retro editions turned out inferior to the original?
>>98695187There's Renegade Scout for Rogue Trader, but you'll need to do a lot of deciphering to tell which unit represents who. Personally, I never had the time/inclination to do so. But the game works fine for what its worth.
Limits hit, new thread ya gits:>>98695419>>98695419>>98695419
>>98695102Yeah, wandering monsters, peasants and mercenaries that could either become enemies or join one of the players are all things that work extremely well in 3e. I've played scenarios where a pitched battle against another player turned into a temporary truce as we fought back a zombie uprising.GMs are also invaluable for roleplaying within games, as they can make any NPC interactions richer and more interesting than any random table or scripted behaviour could.
