A farmer's 14 year old son, Toby, has run away from the farm and his parents are worried sick about him.Is this a good quest hook for a starter quest?
>>98540906I rape Toby
>>98540906It really depends on the group, but yes, "missing person" is a very simple, very useful early quest hook that can be a simple smash-and-grab in a cave or whatever, or an "arc" driven by a few mini-quests (probably not for someone so young and of such humble background).
>>98540906But can I enslave Toby? If I can't, then the setting is historically unaware and you are a faggot troon activist invader.
>>98540906Has he ran away with his girlfriend? Is the girlfriend cute?
>>98540906The gypos have him
>>98540912It can probably end up being the first quest of the arc. Like you track him down to a cave where you find that some orcs found him in the forest and took him as a slave. You rescue him, but now you've got to deal with orcs encroaching in these lands and from that you can go all the way to beating the evil mage who's plotting to invade the country with his army of orcs
>>98540906>quest>>>/qst/
>>98540908you can't just rape him, you gotta chase'm first and he's wily. And slippery.
yeah it's hard to get away from 'the sex thing' there OP
>>98540994based shitpostall roleplaying discussion belongs on the board that actually roleplays
>>98541132He may be wily and slippery, but you aren't. I can rape him in the game or you in real life. Choose.
>>98541191Lmao that's funny that you think that. Do you even know *who I am*?
>>98541195Someone who can't outspeed a bullet, that's who.
>>98541347>not >yeah, you're the guy who got raped after TobyYou fucked up.
>>98540919why do you think he ran away anon.
>>98541347>>98541195>>98541191he is the anon who lobresd getting raped.
>>9854090614 y/o is basically adult, so if he wants to go dragging him back would be an evil action.
>>98541177Roleplaying is deciding the character and behavior of someone who isn't yourself, it doesn't necessarily have to be a part of collaborative storytelling.
>>98540906The players clear the cave inhabited to cultists but doesn't find anyone captured, turns out Toby was recruited by the cult and the players now have to explain the situation to the parents
>>98540906>players ignore the plot hook because it sounds boring>250 years later, the kingdom is subjugated by the undying necromancer known only as 'Toby'Should have checked in on what the kid was doing after he ran away.
>>98542027Just stash the body somewhere safe, we will get back to it once we have access to resurrection magic.
>>98540906Run away, kidnapped, lost? Any could be a hook.
I cast Trap the Soul on Toby.It fails.
>>98541399In D&D it is 1 year from being an Adult.
>>98542069More like anywhere between 1 year and 1 day from being Adult. But yeah, meticulous records of time are important part of D&D, the quest is implicitly time because the moment he turns adult, bringing him back would be evil.
>>98542039>Resurrecting the cultistDevious way to ensure job secrutiy.
>>98542120That's why you always spare goblin babies, it's not about kindness or belief they could surpass their nature, it's just some adventurer's future paycheck. Maybe your own.
>I hope I don't get raped today>rape factory in the background
>>9854090614 years old are adults in medieval fantasyland. He is probably eloping with his girl. Now, if he is the first born son of the local Duke, then it gets interesting.
>>98540906Yes, but only as the opening hook, and with a couple caveats.>Why do your players take this first hookI know, I know, "PCs are good guys and do good stuff", but you need to answer why they are doing THIS and not stopping to solve a bunch of other problems. What pay is offered? Why are the players in the area to hear Farmer John's request?Does this connect in any way to any of the story the PCs already know?Does this connect in any way to any PC's backstory?at that, why are the PCs together? have they ever worked together before?A lot of this can be handwaved because everyone is here to play a fantasy adventure game, but getting the reason the PCs work together and *take* that first hire can be interesting to work though. After they find the kid, then you have to answer what keeps them going. What clues to they find, what greater scope shit does this point to, what will they look back on later and go OH FUCK, THAT WAS CONNECTED?
>>98542155I'm betting he ran off with the hot bara blacksmith/hostler from the neighboring farm
>>98540906Too old. Toby would be considered a little adult at 14.
>>98540906Why the fuck isn't he married yet?
>>98542255Money. Outside of political noble betrothals, most medieval peasants and townspeople married in their early to mid-20s after saving enough resources to establish a household, even if he can already expected to face trials and executed, become someone's apprentice, or work the fields with adults.
>>98540938wouldn't be the first time, nomadic pussy makes young men act unwise
>>98542351>>98540938Wouldn't they have been slaves in Moldavia during this period?
>>98540906Yes, but bear in mind that in many systems/settings, Toby would practically be old enough to be one of the player characters.
>>98542064Actually funny, and everyone else just walked on by. Not me, though. Good stuff.
>>98542351Also, gypsies routinely kidnapped European children for literally centuries.
