Custom aliens you've made or fought in your games?
>>
>>98543634
>TQ
Heavily inspired by a recent Civvie11 vid, I intend to port the Skaarj from Unreal into a Black Crusade game wholesale.
>>
>>98543634
>TQ
I GMed a game of Deathwatch and one of the missions the party went on was to raid, steal from and then destroy a joint Tau+race I made up research station. It went over well.
>>
>>98543634
>Custom aliens you've made or fought in your games?
I don't. There's no open niche that can't be filled by humans or an existing race.
>>
>>98543761
Nice, what are you planning to use them for?
>>
>>98544147
Planning to use them to guard and infest a millennia-old crashed colony ship full of gubbins for the heretek and warpsmith to squabble over. Coordinates will be provided by definitely-not-alpha-legion in exchange for asset retrieval. Don't worry about what the hydra wants with the asset, and DEFINITELY don't crack it open to peek inside. Will also serve to get the players all in one place.
>>
>>98544188
Can you share some more on what they are capable of? I need some ideas for a civilization of body jackers.

I use the Umbra for that. Of course, I gave them a few more forms than just the basic shadowy sphere...
>>
>>98544206
They're cybernetically modified insectoid-reptilian hybrids with eusocial reproduction (via a 'queen') and led by hyperevolved 'warlord' organisms. They seem to have been developed along similar but notably distinct lines as yautja (rank and file) and xenomorphs (queen). They have seemingly fairly advanced technology for their apparent barbarism, and probably looted it from no small number of more advanced and less militaristic polities that they then rendered extinct.
In essence, they're a sort of sidegrade to the role of ork, but without the baggage and with some new off the cuff weird shit.
It'd probably be better to use them in a Rogue Trader game, but that's not what the players wanted, nor does this actually prevent me from using them that way in the future.
>>
>>98544272
That would work but I would rather use something not tied to the warp because of a Pariah related plot point later on.

>>98544280
Anything you could substitute a Ork with is a nice tool to have. I hate their Br*tish bullshit even if I get what why they are that way

For those who played Imperium Maledictum with an Inquisition game, this part of the book sounds somewhat weird. There's nothing in the rules that would suggest the player characters will ever reach the power levels described in supposedly the mid and final missions here. Even the included statblocks don't really have any system-wide threats because at worst you've got some elite-level lesser daemons or xenos. Am I missing something here or have I been severely underestimating the intended power level of this game?
>>
>>98545109
Idk, cubicle 7 is weird as shit because they won't release a monster book with despite IM badly needing one, also the power levels described here seem far above what cubicle 7 themselves describe the game as having

From the same book, describing an example of an adventure structure. Again this sounds to me like it's guide text for a different game altogether because the IM characters do not at all feel like they'd be the kinds of characters who'd be fighting alongside a fucking Deathwatch squad.
>>
Have you ever featured shit tied to the Imperial Truth?
>>
>>98545109
>>98545138
This reads to me like they're trying to mesh together all of the genres of the non Black Crusade games. Investigation and low stakes for Dark Heresy but then the multiple planet/system travel of RT, potential constant combat of Only War, etc. And the power scale in general feels very low, even lower than how some DH campaigns can go given there are rules for Sororitas and generally more fleshed out weapons and armor. IM needs a proper monster book and a few more adventures to really kick things off and set the "expected power level"
>>
I heard IM was really good, but according to all these screenshots and reports in this thread it seems like it might actually be dogshit.
>>
>>98545905
It does some interesting stuff with stats and skills that I wouldn't mind porting into my other games, and I find bonus damage based on degrees of success an interesting mechanic. Otherwise, it's such an agonizingly shallow system it makes me want to kiss a lasgun.
>>
>>98545905
I like the Degrees of Success affecting damage as a good mechanic and mechanically it's a lot more similar to my experience with WFRP4e than the rest of the FFG games but it's unfortunately shallow and lacking content.
>>
>>98545989
If it had more content, it'd be a true successor to DH. It's a very solid foundation to build on. Unfortunately, C7 is retarded and makes 2 trillion games and thus doesn't dedicate enough resources to make even the bare minimum amount IM content to make the game shine

I actually really like the way British culture is disintegrating and leaving only 'bad food' 'muh teef' 'soccer hooligans' behind. There's this possibility that thousands of years from now, someone will really screw something up and be using an ork codex or record of the ullanor as a history text of a mythologised conflict against the 'new britons' and how they lost and were exterminated.

I need to cook up some xenos for my RT sector honestly. One player jokingly suggested Pikmin, which was so funny I'm absolutely going to give them a minor cameo as like a Dark Age microlifeform or something. The ancient Terran study of robochits or somethings. I also have a minor xenos empire in the sector that the Tau are courting, though I haven't decided much beyond I don't want them to be humanoid.

nta but it goes a little something like
> dark heresy 1e
The character advancement are clunky in regards to the "classes"

>rogue trader is jank
The rules for voidships were very slow to play out and the commerce rules had some major gaps.

>black crusade is superjank
They had a hard time with marine vs normie scenarios.

>only war is boring and railroady
They couldn't come up with a good way to make a military campaing work.

Odds are I am missing something but those are some the most common complains about the game.
>>
What 40k rpg/adventures for a 40k rpg are best FROM A GAMING PERSPECTIVE? idgaf about "how good the story is" or whatever the fuck when running a game, it's a game. What is the best game and/or module that's most fun for the players? Well designed etc
>>
>>98548142
I can't see classic Traveller helping with any of those. It doesn't have advancement rules at all. Ship combat is a full on Newtonian physics wargame. Commerce rules are for incidental cargo and are designed to be insufficient to pay of your ship loan. Marine combat would at best be battle dress and good stats, which I doubt are enough for you. And there's nothing to help you run a military campaign.
>>
>>98543634
>Custom aliens you've made or fought in your games?
I very rarely use the existing xenos factions, because I want to preserve the idea that they're a bigger deal.

>Custom aliens you've made or fought in your games?

Two weeks ago, my team fought some Klevyx, a species of arachnoid warrior monks who believe they are divinely ordained to go out into the galaxy and trade for new goods and experiences to bring back to their homeworld. Thanks to neural ganglions in their abdomen, they can fight and move independently, making them somewhat slippery opponents. Their staff weapons possess grooves to catch enemy weapons, and when used in Klevyx martial arts, can parry flexible weapons.

One week ago, my team fought the Malukai, a primitive batlike tribal warriors who live in the jungles of the Spice Worlds, sacrificing Rogue Trader Voidsmen to their bejeweled idols, and drinking the blood of those who stray too close to their bulky stone temples covered in bas-relief. Physically, they are a hulking mix between fantasy Vargheists and fallout Scorchbeasts, using their extreme strength to wield bows and vibroswords, while releasing sonic screeches to disorient and damage their targets. They are tough enough that it took a full salvo of a pulse rifle fire to down one.
>>
>>98548847
As far as I know, Dark Heresy 2e had the best rules out of the bunch.
I heard that Wrath and Glory had some decent stuff for a Rouge Trader kind of game but I never read it.

>>98549310
Did the Malukai had specific "notes" to fuck with people? Like using destructive resonances to cause vertigo, shattering bones to bypass armor or bursting eyeballs with a sonic screech?

Also why do these poor fuckers have 1 single decent art piece? Jesus.
>>
Friends, Romans, Countrymen. I will need to staff a noble party for my players to infiltrate as servants to spy on nobility. Give me some suggestions for minor players and people they might come across, if you have any.

Given how it was literal surprise "first contact" between the player's entire faction and the Malukai, they fought only the basic tribal warriors, and their screeching was a high-damage stream with the Concussive and Spray qualities. It is more than likely that more elite warriors can tune the screech, which may throw peeps for a loop next time they head into the dark heart of the Shining Hinterlands...
>>

Neat. God help them if any of them is a nurgle worshiper with the legendary "Brown Note".
>>98549449
I was working on some corporations for an Underwater Hiveworld so close enough, here's what I remember of the top of my head since my notes are on my laptop.

>Lady Bernadette Bonzzano
Responsible for the air cleansing systems of the hive, after some recent repairs they have become capable of purging the population by redirecting industrial exhaust.

>Torturer Stanflex "Steel" Oggy
A liaison with the mechanicus biologus, training and indoctrinating the servants of the house. His main tools are electroshock stranglers recovered from the ruins of a exploratory vessel.

>Simon Bellavilla
Gardener acting as a spy and implanting incriminating evidence so the arbites can raid the raid the house for hostages, tied to a larger plot to split a group of nobles.
>>
Finished my second RT session earlier, was mostly just combat with some doppelgangers in the planetary governor's palace, getting used to it again and constantly fumbling the rules
It's funny how introducing an Inquisitor makes everyone think they've been made
>>98543634
>TQ
Well we just fought some mud monster aliens who can mimic humanoids, and since some people weren't around for the session, some of the duplicates remain unaccounted for
>>
>>98549661
That's nice and by the time you see an inquisitor most people don't expect to have a discussion.
>>
>>98549636
Much appreciated, a meeting with the resident torturer and other magnates of hive life sounds like a fun thing to include between their spying efforts.
>>
>>98549982
Oggy is a neat character because you can throw whatever fauna you came up with at your PCs and if you are feeling nasty you can throw captured characters with bomb collars.

I had the stats for an electro-lasso but can't find them on my notes.

Hey guys! The Psychic Powers table on the Shas'o Wiki is complete! The powers themselves need articles, but every power is listed, along with data for each power, like cost and prerequisites.

I'd like to ask a huge favour! If anyone can check the page, I'd love to hear any problems people have with the page. I've heard reports from some testers that the table doesn't display properly on some screens. I'm also interested in any other thoughts and feedback on if this layout is fit for purpose.

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to help!

40krpgs should run on a d20 system. In our current Rogue Trader game we're level 5, I have an 80 in charm and my friend has a 100 in intimidation, we have to intentionally nerf ourselves to avoid being able to talk our way through absolutely everything

>>
>>98552806
There aren't, no. They were removed from the lore (as removed as GW ever does, anyway) in 5th edition and never mentioned again outside of a possible-maybe mention in a Cain book, which is probably just a Necron tomb world and the flayed ones screwing with the brain of the squishy mortals inside it. while GW didn't have quite the control of the tabletop rpgs then that they do now, they still came down on that sort of thing pretty hard.

I don't think anyone has ever bothered to make an actual necron PC fanwork for rather obvious reasons. You'll have to make your own,
If you're that desperate, and wed them to the 'blank' rules in the assorted books, which is Disciples of the Dark Gods in DH1e and the core of 2e. I believe there's a warscythe in Tome of Fate as well. There are some necron items in the rogue trader books, but you'll have to go looking for those yourself, as well as inventing a reason why they'd be running about and why people aren't attacking them and, of course, why they exist. Please don't tell me what your invented reasons, I don't actually care. Good luck.
>>
>>98554807
It's a bleak sort of humor to know that GW watches their RPG writers like fucking hawks to make sure everything's Canon Compliant but then let their authors just go fucking wild for zero reason at all.
>>
>>98554854
The authors run the metaplot story. People like ADB are in charge of narrative. Now that they clawed their way to the top, they're defending their spot and reshaping the setting to their views. It's King of the Hill all the way down.
>>
>>98554807
Thanks for telling where the bodies are burried. Lets hope the frankenstein end result is usable.

I think they're mostly afraid of IP copyright - not only has their legal department roided up and gone cancerous over the years, but they've had little run ins like it before. It's a shame, really. The Calixis Sector is wonderfully detailed in a way that can only really come out of a high-crunch autistic rpg book.
>>
>>98550413
Anything for you, citizen. The bugs' most direct point of contact with the Imperium, beyond the hundreds of different dissident, pirate, cult and breakaway factions they've armed over the years, is the Confederate Pictorial Catalogue, a truly remarkable book which includes detailed instructions on how and where to make contact with the aliens, how to requisition and use their extremely powerful macroscopic particle beam weaponry, and how to make contact with other similar groups relying on insectoid help. This has ensured that for every shred of resistance the Inquisition puts down, many more rise up. That said, the insectoids are fairly certain that while they might be able to take the local Imperial sector on and win, doing so would bring the wrath of the rest of humanity on them and they'd lose. So a tense stalemate continues.

another weekend, another only war session
today the squad (now made up of a sergeant, heavy weapons, medic, ogryn, and psyker) went to go secure a Big Tower that would let the regiment see over a large portion of the city. to get there they had to go through tight alleyways full of orks, which they soon turned into a total bloodbath. the autocannon is so overpowered
it took awhile to get through but the team were able to get through with minimal wounds. after that they had to take the tower (a tower which is entirely glass walls, ensuring that any attacking enemies can just shoot whoever is inside), the main issue being an ork with a burna torched the heck out of two players, bringing one down to criticals
it went for about 4 hours so we had to close off with just taking the tower and since we're missing two players next weekend, we'll have the full party for next-next weekend!

as for my thoughts, i've noticed that wide open areas don't really play to the FFG games' strength. melee characters are basically forced to run in the open until they finally get into range and ranged characters really don't have to go very far to just start laying down fire. against enemies like orks where they mostly rely on toughness and hitting hard, it definitely makes it difficult.
i think i will start throwing in more kommandos, faster orks, and orks with smoke. that way they can at least deal with the players a bit easier and making it much more kinetic. i got two weeks to think about it, at least!
>>
>>98555543
>wide open areas
Well, that is realistic that it would be a kill zone for people with guns. Need to pepper it with dips and cover, maybe smoke/dust that acts like smoke too. With orks, you can also plan around it being a massive kill zone by just having more for them to shoot. They are called the green tide after all.

This question is ancient lore, but what exactly is the purpose of the Synod Ministra? It's more or less disappeared from lore, but since my Sister is from one of the Convent Sanctorum Orders, trying to figure out it's place has been on my mind. I don't see how it's existence was supposed to curtail outside influence on the Ecclesiarchy since it seems like they have no special power or real importance. The convent located there still answers to the Ecclesiarch and not the Cardinals Ministra.

Its probably a bit of a reference to the Western Schism and other multipope circumstances, a lot of the older fluff was inspired by historical events.
In universe its part of the division of the various powers to prevent their being coopted by singular command or high lord, similar to the breakup of the legions into chapters post heresy.
Its a symbolic location away from terra at the birth place of the Sister's of Battle.
Acts as a staging ground for the galactic south.
Not current with the post warp rift lore so not sure how its handled there.

Ideally, cover is either preexisting detritus (in a hive city, you can't tell me those streets are clean - busted trucks, carts, drifts of refuse. likewise, hills, bluffs, ridges) or builds up over the course of several days/weeks of fighting (craters blasted into the terrain, trucks charge the lines and are destroyed, leaving their wrecks). The latter has potential to be very immersive.

how to run the game? here's some generic gm advice in the book, idfk, figure it out

how the game is played? uhhh, you roll dice and "investigate" and sometimes fight. examples? templates? uhh, here's an adventure in the back of the book and some modules, but these are heckin" curated railroad narrative adventures, bask in the story!!! wait, you're asking how the game is played normally otherwise, especially if you don't wanna do railroady storygaming? Ehhh fuck off, we don't fuckin know, figure it out

the object of the game? investigate and become inquisitors! or something! you get xp! for fighting and stuff, but it's vibes based. mechanical incentives beyond vibes? gameplay loops? adventuring locations? fuck are those? it's vibes, bro! we're not gonna acknowledge that this is a game, it's vibes, bro, you just investigate and...larp or something! like youth theatre!

Enough to make you think the traitorous had fuck all casualties during the Horus Heresy. Memes aside there were about a million of them prior to the civil war, so even at a 99,9% casualty rating you still have a thousand of them hanging around as high Warlords and Demon Princes.

And the skirmish stuff is right there, just take a look at Necromunda or Rogue Trader(the first one).

Sure you are missing out on anything besides the fights but that's easier to improv than 90% of the largest.

In the RPG space, what is the Object of Dark Heresy? What is the standard procedure for playing the game?

For reference: https://playpassionately.wordpress.com/2010/06/02/the-object-of-the-game/
>>
>>98564582
I'll tell you the objects of both DH1 and DH2. Because in both games you're primarily playing a disposable acolyte of an inquisitor, your character's chances of encountering worldly (or otherworldly) horrors is basically the 3rd highest in the galaxy. Insanity, Corruption, Mutation, and Malignancies are kind of death spiral mechanics where inevitably your character will be too exposed to the horrors of the 41st millennium to be an asset, at which point you're either killed or you fuck off into the warp. The object therefore, is to squeeze as much service to the emperor from your characters as humanly possible before that happens.

>procedures, tells you explicitly how to run the game, how the game is played, the object of the game, etc
Bullshit. It has procedures but none of the rest. It tells you how to generate stuff, and how to resolve actions, but not what your goals ought to be or how to achieve them. Some things are suggested by the game name and procedures, but they aren't explicit.
Dark Heresy's setting makes a particular goal clear: find and destroy hidden threats to the Imperium.
>>
>>98547707
If you really want to check out different rules you could take a look at the Dark Heresy, Rogue Trader or fantasy genesys hack.
It has a lot of material and is very professionally made. I'm running a solo journal adventure with it whenever I have some time on my hand.
And if you want expand with creatures and other rules you can steal from the incredible extensive starwars rules that span loads of books with with the same system. Hardly any tweaking needed.

Okay. Provide an example of regular play. Do I have to make everything my fucking self as a GM? Am I supposed to be "a heckin storyteller!!!" and railroad my players though my "HECKIN DRAMATIC" failed novel or something? Do I have to spend days, weeks, months agonizingly, painstakingly creating something for my players that they all won't fucking show up for so we have to keep delaying sessions because I made a HECKING CURATED NARRATIVE ADVENTURE that RIFFS ON DA PLAYER CHARACTERS and THEY ALL GOTTA BE THERE, MAAAANNN!!! Are you trying to fucking rape me? It sounds like you're trying to rape me. >>
>>98567573
It sounds like you're new at this so as a forever GM that started back in the '80's, I'm going to give you a little advice. If you're going to run a game - any game, not just DH - you have to understand that managing the party is like herding cats, except that if you actually herd them they're going to be unhappy. They're going to do unexpected things. They're going to go off on tangents. They're going to decide that, no, they're not all that interested in investigating this thing right now because they're fascinated by something else. There's no way to plan for every eventuality, so don't even try. You have two options, and two options only.
>roll with it, wing it, and let the players decide where they're going to go
Or
>gently remind them where the train tracks are headed
The former is preferred but the latter won't break up your group. As I've been doing this for a while and I can generally figure out where a prewritten adventure is trying to get the characters to go, I'll take that upon myself when I'm a player. But when a GM does it, I don't get mad. It doesn't even really break immersion. Groups get confused and derailed all the time. If you don't have an experienced player that understands this and will help you out, and you're not willing to make shit up on the fly, then you'll have to do it yourself.

It's just a game. Don't sweat it.
>>
>>98568811
Rock solid advice, you should listen to this anon. I've been doing this for a big chunk of time too, but nowhere near as long, and this is about as good as a paragraph blurb is going to get.

A Tithe paid in Blood (Working name) pt 1

The Acolytes are summoned to the feudal world Baracyphene Secundus (original creation), the same world from the last one shot, to do some proper investigations into the seditionist military cult, this time under the cover of being servants and spiritual aides of a noblewoman cooperating with the big I, joining her at a party hosted by a family member of the planetary governor. More specifically, they're arriving in part to do some scouting out of nobles that were identified as possibly up to no good. Kestian is also asked to help inspect a medicae servitor being used by a "guest of honor" and ensure that it works properly. While Alicent, Gallus the voidborn and Prometheus end up staying back to not offend the nobility, instead comes in Novus the officer in training and Durrana the noble duelist-cleric, as well as Sir Morven, a former Armiger pilot who had to leave in disgrace (Guardsman, replacing Drive (Ground vehicles) with Drive (Walker) instead) so they all make their way to one of the hive-spires to a mansion estate. Weapons and armor are checked at the door, pistols and reasonable melee allowed to go in (because of native dueling culture) but full guns are confiscated to be returned later.

The "guest" is revealed as a colonel of the militarum on medical leave after a bad run in with a drukhari raiding party. Working off the toxins and a grievous injury to his arm and side -yet not enough for augmetics-, he was brought back to the world for recovery and also slyly as a political move from the governor. Colonol Raxus is left gaunt and blighted by the injuries, but still sharp enough to surprise the acolytes with a forearm-mounted bolt pistol that he acts is going to be used on them right there before stating "I'm just fragging with you" and laughing as he asks if they've brought him some 'proper meds' since the servitor is broken.

They dose him up with Stimms and other painkillers while he regales them with his story before asking to "cut the groxshit, what's your angle?" They waffle about a bit before discussing hunting suspiscious nobles, which he laughs about but offers some of his thoughts, noting that a local Duke is involved in the stimm trade and does lots of dueling plus "hunting" in the lower hives as a pasttime. Also tells them about a guardswoman officer who's been sent home due to some politicking and issues with her home unit.
With that info, the group decides to do some mingling. With sister Venria doing some "casual" patrolling around the party and seeing all the people drinking and using obscura or other drugs, Morven chatting up the guardswoman they were told about before "Dame Reila of House Tyrain" (She's from a feudal world, go figure), and Durrana ends up challenging the Duke Heiron to a friendly duel. Despite him dosing up on Slaught and Stimm, he misses the first shot with his pistol and she closes before mag-dumping him with her irontalon, scoring all three 'points' for their duel in one go and winning. While he skulks away, humiliated, the rest get up to some conversation with a navy officer who's generally a noble supremacy type before Dame Reila challenges Morven to a duel because of being excited from the last bout. Unfortunately Morven gets absolutely spanked while Reila leaves a pair of cheek cuts via all out attacking every time and he surrenders.

As the second duel ends, the participants muddle around the banquet table, still working on spying when Hastus the guardsman ends up spotting a figure on a hive spire balcony opposite theirs, setting up a weapon. His shouted warning has people hitting the deck a moment before a long-las with hotshot pack las shot rings out over their heads, killing one of the colonel's aides. With some people trapped out on the balcony, Morven goes for his mirrored shield, narrowly avoiding a follow up shot from the same weapon's fire selector. His mirror shield saves his life, reducing the incoming damage to 3 after reduction and leaving him on 1 wound. Dame Riela runs to draw fire and covers Morven when he runs inside. The guards trigger security shutters to draw over the broken windows and doors to the outside, upon which the session ends. The players are all trying to figure out who set up the attack and why, in addition to what's going on with the various suspicious people and what they're up to, plus how to deal with them when the time comes. Thanks to the guy suggesting the fire selector, two hot-shot charges before a standard overcharge pack helped set up a fun and dangerous assassin threat that had them taking cover and setting up the second part of the investigation now that all the suspects are super c

>Because I am physically incapable of saying no, one of the last players in our play group who wasn't involved joins as a psyker, Emelia from an feudal world. They say they want to play a mostly supportive type with divination and such so it should be interesting.
>Thinking on running Illimination after a few sessions of investigation, but I came up with a few good story hooks involving military cults and other issues on a feudal/imperial world. Had some doubts about "social impact and mobility" of being brought in as fake noble servants but I figure an acolyte's role is outside of the normal societal pecking order now, since they're tools and spies.

I've detailed it on /tg/ before, but here it is again. When I'm starting up a game and recruiting players, I follow a checklist in order of priority.
>people I've gamed with before
>friends and acquaintances of people I've gamed with before
>friends and acquaintances outside of gaming that have expressed interest in the past
>friends and acquaintances of friends and acquaintances outside of gaming that have expressed interest in the past
When I'm looking for a game it's much the same thing - I'll hit up people I've played with before and ask them if they need a player. Sometimes the answer is no, they're full, but I'll get a text later when someone drops out. The important thing here is that I'm gaming with people that have been vetted by trusted sources, or people that I've vetted myself. It's necessary to keep the weirdos and dysfunctional people out. A coworker may want to have sex with kobolds but he likely doesn't want his friends and family knowing it, so he's not going to bring it to a table with real people that know him personally. A rando online? That accountability for bad behavior no longer exists.
>joining games on reddit or discord
Not even once. The people looking for games on reddit and discord are there because for the most part, they've already demonstrated their inability to play well with others to everyone that knows them personally, so now they're reduced to this. I'm not saying that every single one of them is bad, but the majority are. Functional players with healthy personal relationships don't beg for games online.

Well you got bioshock to crib off of. Plus every piece of submariner media for the claustrophobia and "oh god something went wrong and now a ton of people got instantly converted into soup". Any nautical or space themed steam/diesel punk are likely to also work as good source material.

I think it could be pretty interesting, but since you don't have a good in universe example to crib off of you probably need to pull your media inspiration together from a bunch of different places. If you don't do much prework to give yourself ideas, it might end up a bit gimmicky, but with some prep I think it could pretty easily be rather neat.
>>
>>98573217
There's one example of that in canon that I can think of, Incron. The hives on Incron are like floating islands, not all underwater per se, but the majority of their mass is probably underwater like glaciers. We don't know much more than some of the native predatory species in the oceans that eat people and the fact it's the local Battlefleet's main hub. Oh, and the Moebian 21st have been campaigning there and have pretty cool aquatic-style uniforms with rebreathers, oxygen tanks, and goggles.
>>
>>98570246
Originally I thought it wouldn't be that useful but I completely didn't account for being able to do two or three hotshot rounds before needing to reload properly. I have a couple different plots for the world, the only real worry I have is making it feel too generic to be in 40k.

The local nobles are preparing for a civil war after they drove their main source of fuel and luxury exports into extinction with their whaling industry, and because of that, the Mechanicus is strangling them with the mother of all blockades for destroying the creations of ancient humanity.

The players are the retinue of a Rogue Trader doing their best to put the factions that would benefit the dynasty in power and using the conflicts to cover any looting runs they make.

I will probably explore some of the big adventures, I know people are mixed about the multi-part ones like Haarlocke's Legacy and Apostasy Gambit but they seem like a good chance to go along with some rewriten stuff to farm for my own ideas.
On a different question, what's your/other GMs approaches for new player characters being brought in? I've been doing them coming in with the starter exp as per the book suggestions, but I can imagine that gets more and more unfun as some acolytes stay alive more and more while the less experienced ones can end up in a death chain due to lacking gear or xp

Now, morale would likely be in the shitter. I've gone through approximately three players in my attempts to have a full four-person group. What I did depended really on where the game was.

>1st new replacement (Tech-Priest)
We were barely a couple thousand XP in, so there wasn't much to really fuss about on the character creation side, so I just gave them about the same XP as the rest of the group was at and left them at starting gear.

>2nd new replacement (Arbitrator)
We were a lot further in and closer to Ascension at this point, and the expectation was that the next mission would bring everyone to Ascension, so I dropped in the Arbitrator with a little less XP and gave him some stuff of his choice like a free meltagun and a cyber-mastiff along with the rule cribbed from the tech-priest class that can manipulate cyber-mastiffs from Book of Judgment.

>3rd new replacement (Death Cult Assassin)
At this point we were just at Ascension, so I used the rules found in Heed the Higher Call and let the new player get a fully-juiced out of the box Death Cult Assassin.

Funny part is it's always been the fourth player I lost for some reason. My other three, (Callidia, Galen, Cellanus) have been with me for two years now with no issues. I really think I lucked out with those guys. Love 'em.

If you don't feel like doing the work, why not just turn to a different hobby? This isn't video gaming, designed for disposable consumption. You're supposed to play with a group of like-minded friends, not produce content for a pack of leeches.

Very very good info, thank you. My guys are capping out at barely above 1500 so I definitely think I could get away with starting them out just at basic starting XP or about equal with the normal starting gear and be done with it.

Are there any space marines describes as ace pilots? You always hear about how they’re tactical geniuses or whatever or fury incarnate on the battlefield, but what about being really awesome at flying a Stormhawk?

oh, i forgot to mention, but we had our first LOGISTICS VICTORY this session too
each player actually rolled under the squad rating (which at the moment was actually at a -10 due to the conditions)
so they got an extra autocannon for the squad, ogryn plate for the ogryn, light carapace for the psyker, vid relay for the medic (he wanted to become a streamer, i guess), and i forget what the last guy got but he did get it

this is after basically every logistics roll beforehand being a total waste
i haven't even bothered using the mission logistics rolls. if you pass, you MIGHT get something cool with your items. if you fail, you get fucked out of anything and as someone who doesnt think ahead, i dont think about waht would happen WITHOUT the mission equipment

I'll give him its at least decently well done slop. It doesn't have quite the obvious clash that a lot of images have. But yeah. Support your local degenerate and pay for smut from real human people

I've seen Space Marines that have added human skulls to their armor. Do Loyalist do it to honor their fallen dead and Traitor forces do it to mock their kills?

I am sympathetic to the lack of procedures in the 40krpg system, but it sounds like you're being deliberately dense and just want random tables to run the game for you. thankfully we have a random table for random tables, it's called grok; just get it to run the game for you. It will be just as meaningful.

I enjoyed playing their whfb 4e rpg, but it obviously has a diversity commissar who edits AFTER the editor and before the GW one. It's a weird game, constantly shuffling around huge chunks of the magic rules and doing dumb stuff that the GW editor ignores, like placing a ring of khaine in Altdorf. They also apparently have one editor, total, for all their books, and she's external. And the original designer, Andy Law, noted faggot, basically got himself run out. Apparently the newest edition was a result of him running someone else out and now it's a weird combination of that knockoff mudcore whfb 2e thi ng - Zweihander?- and d&d4e and CoC. The horror setting thread has a guy who had a meltdown about C7 getting their hands on the laundry files rpg and rants about integrated company wide rule and dice systems being the devil like ffg and c7 have.

I can't help but think they started fine and lost the people who made the products to the marketers.

Lead shitkicker: Give him an adaptable toolkit that becomes a weapon mod of his choice once a day, his choice of a weapon or armour roll from the treasure generator in rogue trader and a single archeotech laspistol powerpack that is never out of ammo.

Social butterfly/scum: Adaptive clothing so he's never poorly dressed. Chameoline nanofabric or something.

Priest: There's a rogue trader adventure that gives you a necron amulet making you immune to perils of the warp or phenomena you didn't create. Give him that, but set in an aquila. I think it's the dread pearl adventure that also has a copy of the original lectitio divinitatus. Which would be hilarious for him to have.

Blanks: If you have one, give him an eisenhorn style limiter and the plans to build more. Call it a gift after a one night stand with a SoS - the Custode watched the entire thing. In armour.

Psyker: Steal the Telekine Cult PR20 forcefield from the good bad alpha legion homebrew.

Can someone explain to me how a tau stealth suit works in Deathwatch? I know that concealment is opposed by awareness, but the stealth field penalties complicate it, since it gives a penalty to the awareness test instead of a bonus to the concealment test. I understand the normal flow, the stealth suit passes his conceal, the player has a -30 test to detect it, and passing with at least one degree as if the field wasn't there alerts him that he's being jammed. But what happens if the stealth suit fails concealment? Is he automatically detected? Does the -30 to detection from the stealth field override automatic detection and force an awareness test anyway? Please help.

Never painted before. Want to buy a few Boyz. How much should I expect to pay including supplies?
>>
>>98589392
Boyz can be had on the cheap, then there's the cost of primer, then your base coats, 2-3 paints, and then your highlights, 2-3 paints, and a shade paint if that's your thing. Prolly like 30 bucks

It is just an opposed test with some extra bits from the stealth suit. If the stealth suit fails concealment then they're found if the opposition passes awareness. If both fail, then they reroll until someone wins.
>>
>>98589392
Check the marketplace on Facebook and the like too. People are always selling their old guys.
>>
>>98589474
So if the players don't know they're under attack or being watched, nothing happens, but if the players know there are enemies nearby and are vigilant, then reroll until someone wins. Thanks.

I like what you got going with the nobles and the extinction spiraling into a political and economic crisis

How about a bit of a Dishonored angle? The "whales" were somewhat psychic, and their extinction reverberates in the local Warp, beginning to form quite literal hauntings. There are ghostly apparitions prompting desperate whale hunt attempts that yield nothing, people have nightmares of aquatic death and deep sorrow ratcheting up tensions even among the commoners against the nobles that "Wasted the great bounty bestowed upon the planet by the Emperor"

Alternatively, what if there are secret Biologis at work trying to recreate the creatures from leftover genetic material? Either an officially but secretively sanctioned AdMech lab working away, hoping to bring them back to life after the nobility's power withers away from the blockade, or a rogue heretek mission on behalf of the nobles who want to restore the source of their economic wealth?

Looking back at it, I neglected the cults so there should be a group of fanatic whaler impaling their previous patrons in a "mandate of heaven" kind of timing.

The revivalists are a faction looking into the flooded caverns for a substitute or pocket of "whales". I want to copy the Dishonored 2 crafting system, but I don't want to copy and paste the Wraith bone bullshit.
So I'm adding a psychic tradition of leather workers using the local fauna to craft all kinds of weird shit.

In GBA, on page 45, the Terrify Psychic Power references "Table 9–5: Shock on page 304". However, GBA doesn't have a page 304, and no such table exists in the Deathwatch core book. Rites of Battle doesn't have a page 304. Which book is this referencing?
>>
>>98574380

Additionally, same page, Mind Howl, has the line "...its Weapon Skill and Ballistic Skill Characteristics are reduced 10..."

Is this reduced by 10 or reduced to 10? I've assumed reduced by 10 and written it as such on the wiki, but I'd like to be sure.
>>
>>98593919
>>98594006
>Page number
It's actually referring to Only War p304, since OW served as the template for the powers. I'll fix that.
>Mind Howl
That should be reduced TO 10. It's a psychic power that forces the enemy to basically make Snap Shots. I'll fix that too when I can.
>>
>>98594056
Thanks very much! I'll edit the wiki accordingly.
