>TQYeah. This week hasn't happened, but I normally play Battletech once a week and squeeze in other games where I can. Gonna start a Frostgrave campaign early next year.
Anyone happens to have the up-to-date Greathelm rules?
>>98552466That is cool as fuck. What game ?
>>98552556Carnevale by TTCombat.
>>98552466>Be honest, do you even play wargames?Sometimes. But frankly now in my late 30s it becomes an increasingly less frequent occurance. Last game I played was some 2nd edition 40k with the only other person who'll play oldhammer and AWGs with me on a regular basis, and that was almost a month ago. I'm hoping he'll find some free time for a game of Warzone 2nd edition with me before the end of August but I'm not holding my breath. I'll just be trying to paint through my collection of shit that I should really think about getting rid of, to be honest.
>>98552466Since covid if I play at all its solo games.
>>98549026 #I think order tokens were be a good way good compromise between traditional war games and the Dominons style issue order before combat, then see what happens.Commanders letting you jump out delay on the resolution order, or even switch orders. Elite/special units getting access to more orders. Spellcasters with big spells needing multiple uninterrupted turns to cast.I think it's a design space with a lot of potential fun interactions.
>>98552466>Be honest, do you even play wargames?Yes. As much as I'd like? No.
>>98552728I used to poo poo on solo games. But they are increasingly growing on me. IDK if it's because scheduling and organizing games is harder, or if I'm slowly riding into a railroad modeler as I age.
Any OPR subscribers here?We used to have a simple points formula in form of a PDF file with a wall of text and numbers for a few editions before the custom unit creation was moved to Army Forge Studio. Is the point formula still easily accessible in the Army Forge Studio or is it now more of a calculator with the formula hidden behind UI and has to be reverse-engineered? I'm working on a v3.5 battle bible and having a way to create new units from scratch or balance the existing ones in the future would be nice.
>>98552743Personally I'm getting more into solo games because my friend group has fully turned into mtg drones. I spent half a year crafting terrain and painting minatures for a frostgrave campaign for our high level wizards but my friends have pushed the game off for over a year now.
>>98552798>my friend group has fully turned into mtg droneThat's bullshit. Why would they start to play MtG now that it's not only terribly unbalanced but also full of 3rd party UB slop? Shit is unplayable for almost 3 years now.
>>98552838Unfortunately some people like "fortnite the card game"
>>98552798Find better friends.Seriously.More importantly, find more discerning company.
>>98552798Same, I've pretty much resigned myself to solo wargaming entirely, as I live in a small town and people only play 40k and MtG here.
>>98552852Jesus, how repulsive. I don't care what brain-washed zoomers and permanently offended femoids say on the Internet. There ARE correct ways and wrong ways of having fun and playing MtG in 2026 is objectively the latter. No, I won't elaborate.
>>98552838We always played kitchen table and later edh but it wasn't only thing we played. We played ttrpgs, board games and I got them to try wargames every once in awhile. Now they quite literally only play edh and never an easy 4 man game. It's always a 8+ person game with new meme rules attached. Our group text is literally just half the people spamming cards and the other half talking about cards or reposting mtg memes from social media. Over Half the numbers in our text chain are unknown to me.It's just very depressing to be frank.
>>98552888My way is to grown my own players. They can only escape when they reach 18, and even then, be how teh house prices are, even longer.
>>98552466>Be honest, do you even play wargames?I play LOTS of games. At the minute I'm conceptualizing my own game.Building a game is hard.
>>98553160Use a game you like as a base for your own design. Good ideas are here to be taken, dissected na repurposed. Only the bad ideas are not being stolen.
>>98553160Im trying to do this myself just for me and a friend to play. Im basing it off either MESBG or Turnip rules. The issue being that we love MESBG, but Turnip is definately better for being easy to make different faction flavours due to how simple the rules and units are.
>>98553177>Use a game you like as a base for your own designThere's plenty of inspiration out there for me, for sure, but my overall game concept isn't a common one, so I need to find a way of balancing fun gameplay with interesting concepts. I need people to want to play my game, not just look at it online.
>>98552744Not in an easy way, the formulas are so complex now that it would be a huge hassle to do it by hand. You could save the PDFs and use Studio to recreate the v3.5 versions of the armies once the new edition drops. The armies remain available even after you unsubscribe.
>>98552466>Be honest, do you even play wargames? Not as often I'd like, but I finally got a game last weekend with the new wall terrain pieces I made.
Speaking of OPR...>TQSince covid I have been mostly playing solo games, and found the new Quest/StarQuest games from OPR to be very enjoyable. The rules are free and easy to use, and whilst you need the app to build your heroes, it works well (they also said they're going to make an app-free version of it at some point).I wanted to upload the latest campaign here but it says file type is not supported. It's a PDF, does anybody know how I can get it to work?
>>98553252I haven't played Quest simply because of the App reliance, I hate that shit, Apps are just early death-knells for games. As for your other point, if you go to the Share Thread and follow the steps shared therein (after some necessary digging) they'll clean your PDF, remove the digital signature and then host it somewhere for you. That's the best we've got since that big ol hack ruined PDFs for everyone.
>>98553252You can't upload PDFs on 4channel (tm) since the major security breach in April last year. Basically some troons le h4cked 4chan with a fucking PDF file. Now you have to use external hosting services like Mega.>>98553201>but my overall game concept isn't a common oneLol, just share it you snowflake.>I need people to want to play my game, not just look at it online.Anon don't be silly. You should be ecstatic if anyone even looks at it online and piss your pants if someone plays it.
>>98553226Lovely table anon
>>98553271If I share it, someone might yoink it. But once I'm further into things, I'll bring it here to see if it flies.>You should be ecstatic if anyone even looks at it online and piss your pants if someone plays it.That's exactly my point. I WANT and NEED this to happen for the project to fly.
>>98553296>someone might yoink itIt's so cute whenever brewfags are so charmed with their own work they lose any contact with the real world. I guess every single one of us went through this phase. Fly high pretty bird, sky is the limit.
>>98553310IT'S NOT A PHASE MOM
>>98553310>grown man with pics and gifs of children saved on his phone/PCWe all know.
>>98553317>Anon finds the concept of reaction pics alienMust me tough to live with Asperger.
>>98553296Anon once you make you game or whatever you will want to be at least read, because no one will give a shit. The wargame/rpg market is already over saturated and barely anyone apart of a few autist even care about hte rules, the majority of the money is in the vibe rpgs like mork borg.
>>98553487I'm fairly confident that my game won't fall into the slop categories. And, for what it's worth, I like Mork Borg.
>>98553487>mork borgThe only thing I know about that is the faggots put a disclaimer about doing bad things in a rpg
>>98553252use gofile.io und post a link instead, see >>98553271for why
>>98553497>won't fall into the slop categories>I like Mork BorgBait used to be believable.
>>98553655No it didn't.
>>98553655>Implying it's baitYou're just retarded and see things in absolutes, because you're retarded. Nuance has no bearing in your life, because you're retarded.
>>98553726Don't worry, mad buddy - I bet your game will be amazing.
>TQYes, my son wanted to play with miniatures again this week (I never force him to play, only chores are compulsory) so this week I played three games of xenos rampant. I think I need to start experimenting with more house rules. Today we played with an "improved ballistics" upgrade that improves the shoot value of units by +1. This makes elite infantry especially nasty. Another idea I thought of was an unit upgrade that would permit them to re-roll all misses. There's a pretty active TOW scene in a nearby town, but it's nearly half an hour drive away (that's pretty long for people who live in central Europe) and I'm not that enthusiastic about the game, so I don't go there very often.
>>98553753Thanks
>>98553272Thanks! Might as well post about it.This was at the end of the game with half of the green team incapacitated on the other side of the board, and the rest injured too badly. I was the blue team trying to work the field gun by carrying ammo to it from the boxes and spending an action to fire to score points. My friend's objective was to blow up the ammo and/or the gun. Or make my forces withdraw. It didn't go well for him, the dice wasn't in his favor.
>>98553832>the dice wasn't in his favor.Precisely what I like to hear!
>>98553778Noice, I Likle the texture of the terrain, like brick.
>>98553778Holy Sovl nice one anon
>>98553753A fag trying this hard to sound condescending calling calling anyone elsw mad is a jokeYou basically wound yourself up, strange behaviour
>>98553967>repeating words>mistyping>name-callingYes Anon, you are the calm one here.
>>98553873Thanks, I used liquitex raw sienna as a main colour for the terrain pieces. I still need to build some water pieces, but I don't have big enough MDF pieces lying around for bases.
>>98552866Out of sheer curiosity. How would anon do that?Because I'm dreading the day my friends fuck off or die of old age. Its not like I find friends at work since well I'm the boss and if the local scene was not addicted to GW FOMO the dread would not be there.
>>98552466A reasonable amount yeah. Even on ship (I'm in the navy) there's typically some nerds I can coral into playing. Standees and paper maps for Battletech / Alpha Strike means you can get quite a lot of game out of not much space.>>98552728I have been playing an increasing amount of solo stuff in the past few years, but mostly boardgames not wargames. Do you use an AI system or just play both sides?>>98553778How is Xenos Rampant? I have a bunch of sci-fi 15mm stuff I originally got to use for Halo Ground Command, but that game is fucking terrible, so I use them occasionally for AK47 in space instead. Was looking for some other rules to use them with. Does it work with multi-model bases?
>>98553983I'm waiting for the coffee to brew I'm not pouring over what I tap out on my phone because I don't give a fuckI'm not overthinking what diminutive to call you or poring over my reaction folder for a fucking tony soprano reaction imagw, it's an embarassmentThe guy already (calmly) replied to you, I'm just telling you you're a cringetard
>>98554104Xenos Rampant would work well for multibase units, you'd need some dice for casualty tracking etc. As an example, units lose half of their attack/defence dice and only use one dice for morale tests after they've lost half their strength points. The game is good, plays fast and is pretty intuitive. Very much a shooting game as units don't move that fast and always have to take morale tests after being shot at, which can lead to them being pinned down even without suffering any losses. Pretty rare to see units get wiped out in a single shoot activation, most of the time you are chipping away at the enemy until they drop below half strength and are vulnerable to being routed. Melee units have to be really careful on how they approach the enemy and they'll inevitably take heavier losses due to melee attacks being resolved simultaneously. Come to think of it, I'd house-rule melee upgrades to be cheaper than shooting ones. It's up to your taste, as the game isn't meant to be a tight competitive one.
>>98554148He melty lmao.
>>98554185Now you've flipflopped to this new slang punctuated with lol lmao shit when being obviously inauthenthic was why you looked mad and tryhard in the first case, stop embarrassing yourself
>>98554185>>98554332Just fuck already and get it over with. holy shit. >lol you mad bro>lol im not mad you mad broHow many more times are both of you going to say this?
>>98554160Cheers anon. Tracking shouldn't be an issue, got loads of tokens etc.Is the number of models in your photo a normal sized game?
>>98554332Seethe. Rent free.
Bit of a specific question:I've been playing a bit of Wyldwood lately on TTS, my faction of choice is picrel who's gimmick is that's he's a large immobile tree who creates root tentacle minions that he can treat as himself for LoS and attack purposes. Are there any other miniature games out there with units/factions that have a similar central hive/drone kind of gimmick? I know Cadmus in Malifaux does vaguely similar things but I'm not /awg/pilled enough to know if there's other games out there with that sort of playstyle available.
>>98553497>for what it's worth, I like Mork Borg.Fuck. It's already too late.
>>98554802I think there are several crews in Malifaux that do that. Zorida can draw los through swampfiends. I think Colette has mirror duplicates that count as her.
>>98554160Melee feels mostly geared towards berserker units, cause their big thing is skipping activation. Taking a few cheap units means you get to apply out of round pressure for units that only want to move and so will never fail initiative. This is kind of my problem with the game. It isn't as open as it looks. There are very specific unit selections and upgrades and the game has its own meta, which makes it feel a little awkward when you just want to port over something else.
>>98554419No, that's a huge game I think (still can be wrapped up in less than 90 minutes). Didn't count the points exactly, but I think my son had around 90 points, while I had about 60-70. The suggested game size is 24 points.
>>98554419No, that's a huge game I think (still can be wrapped up in less than 90 minutes). Didn't count the points exactly, but I think my son had around 90 points, while I had about 60-70. The suggested game size is 24 points.>>98555611Elite infantry also get free melee activations.
>>98554104At first I only played both sides, but i been used hte great satan more, specially to modify stuff, specially if the games don't have they own "AI" for moving.
>>98553160>I'm playing games>In my head!
>>98556339One day I'll convince someone to play Queen's Blade Lost World with me.
>>98556492>Queen's BladeIt's weird to see them with clothes on. Can you elaborate on the Lost World game?
>>98556506Lost Worlds is a fantasy combat book series where you trade books to have a pov fantasy fight.Queen's Blade has an extensive amount of these.
>>98554802that sounds pretty cool, guess I gotta look into Wyldwood. My immediate thought was also Malifaux. Rasputina (Abominable), while being different thematically, gives every model in her crew the ice mirror ability, so they can attack enemies that are close to ice pillars. Raspy and a few of her allies can create ice pillars and she also has a minion type that counts as them for the purpose of ice mirror.
Bought those Ice Cave files I was talking about last thread. First print. Leaving the top unglued so i can move it if it gets in the way
>>98557229Looks well, needs a bit of work only.
Is this better than warmaster for 10mm? anyone has the 1.2 pdf?
Any uploads of the new Oathmark rules?
>>98558224I would also like to know this, but really you can just play both. Fantastic Battles, Mayhem, and Warmaster can all be played with the same Warmaster minis on 40x20mm stands. I'd be very curious to hear other people comparisons of the three.
I'm seeing Dropzone Commander recently dropped 3rd edition? Any impressions so far? I remember 1st being good, then it was bought and became mostly vaporware and sorta shitty.
>Foundry Miniatures might get sold (again) because Bryan Ansell's son has a Tiktok with 1 million followers where he reviews tinned fishWew
>>98560378Wait, he's the one doing tinned fish reviews with his dog?
>>98560378>1 million followersdamn that's a pity, guy's a cunt irl
>>98560169Played one game so far, first impression is mostly a big improvement over v2. We're waiting for the command cards to make their way through the mail to us to properly judge the game though, since they seem like too important a mechanic and source of faction flavor to assess the game properly without including.
>>98557074I did enjoy Rasputina a fair bit back when I played her in early third edition.Next pay check I should pick up the stuff for her I've missed. Maybe see if I can convince some friends to try the new campaign mode.
