Do you think the war for Armageddon will ever end, like other conflicts in the 40K lore? Or will it be a perpetual stalemate with every edition.

Acrylics for miniatures are thin and have high pigment concentration. You can absolutely paint with non-hobby paints, but there is largely no reason to. Vallejo are affordable and a pot will last you a decade.

Averland sunset yellow for about 3-4 thin coats, skragg brown glazed in recesses and lower parts of the armour where shadows would fall, then dorn yellow for highlights. The trick is i use a lot of scratch marks and freehand on my orks to disguise the areas where black shows through on the yellow.

One page rules isn’t off topic?
It is an alternative rule system for people burned out from official warhammer 40k rules for a hopefully better rule system.
>>
>>98556047
There's a grot as well, so that's 4 miniatures!
>>
>>98555989
If you're just starting out just buy the army painter fnatic starter set for $40. The bottles go way further than you'd think and using craft paint is an uphill battle.
>>
>>98555997
>>98556007
What’s wrong with the alternative rules?
I’m seriously asking here. To me they were added to the op for the same reason the wargames terrain pdf was added because anons kept complaining.
>>
>>98555989
Yes. You CAN paint with cheap craft paints BUT it's very thick & will need more thinner drops. Which doesn't seem to have a magic number ratio. Better to find a good local model store that sells paints for a little cheaper on average. You can order hobby paints online but there's a risk they'll arrive broken.
>>
>>98556049
>>98556052
Both of these are me.
I just am a little weirded out at what went wrong with opr and why there seems to be a dislike for the alternative ruleset part of the op when we complain a lot about gw’s official warhammer 40k rules.
Also I have insomnia right now and I’m thinking of pulling an all lighter and all day one to force fix it.
If one page rules gets removed perhaps something or different rules replace it?

A bit, got the No Man's Land mission where your job is to take over a fortress that the traitors have taken, and once you secure it you need to go into the basement to look for some intel as for heretic movements and their plans.
After that the story moves towards the Expeditions gamemode (it's bad though, don't play it) which takes place in the radwastes outside of Tertium where the cult is looking for technology remnants to use in their rituals and other things.
And it also basically confirms that the Admonition cult originated in the radwastes that's the reason why they wear pale yellow rags, it's originally camouflage amongst the sand. Also in the Expeditions update a character mentions the daemon Kul'garod the Saint Messelina battled outside the hive which lead to the radwastes forming from the aftermath of the battle. Kul'garod is the "daemon of the sands" mentioned by few of the cultist commanders in small "story campaign" and in the expeditions mode.

If you want to learn about the story proper you should look for it on youtube since it is easier to do.

Now we're well off the rails. Darktide's latest DLC offering of admech was far more interesting and fun to play with than HD2's Warhammer slopbond. DT in its current state runs way better, has a more satisfying gameplay loop and better grind, with only cosmetics in the microtransaction shop. Meanwhile if you start HD2 these days you have to shell out $$$ for over 20 warbonds that only have like 1-2 interesting things in each. I think >>98556201 is right

I don't hate them per se but I do hate the dishonest marketing GW did by pretending they give the same result as basecoat+wash. I want to put together some of the Blood Ravens traitors from DoW2 Chaos Rising/Retribution. I was thinking the Red Corsairs might be a better base kit than the straight up CSM kit because they're very recent converts, but don't want them to just be slightly different red Red Corsairs. What would you do to make them look slightly more freshly turned, and also more Blood Raven-esque?
>>
>>98556241
Paint them in ravens colours and they will look freshly turned. Idk what the question is anon. Just grab the reaver kit and go nuts.
>>
>>98556241
Mix them with nu-heresy kits. Swap bits around so that chaosy stuff is more evenly spread across each squad.

They have more bone in their colour scheme don't they? Went googling to find this, it's like more 50/50 red and bone. That alone would help them stand out more from Red Corsairs. Mixing another kit in would also help I feel
>>

>>98556265
Yeah, this seems a sensible bet though I'd need to factor in the balance of trim.
>>98556279

Forgot pic, there's a heap of bone here. Like I said it's about 50/50

True, but it is only really the scouts that have *that* much bone. Certainly in DoW 1 everything is red bar pauldrons, scout fatigues, rhino doors, Termie helms and some panels on land speeders, dreads and buildings. DoW2 starts adding in a few extra details on specific equippable gear - bone helmets for Tarkus and Thaddeus' veterans, some bone greaves or knees, tabards, a bolter or two, some bone armour on Thule. The dudes in DoW2 tend not to have much detail on them at the beginning of the game, most of them don't even have trim on their shoulders, being totally blank MkVI type, and it isn't until much later on that the sergeants get a bit of gold bling and the odd extra bit of bone on them.

2 games in so far. First was Votann vs Blood Angels, second was CSM vs Grey Knights.
Current thoughts
>MUCH better core ruleset than 10th. Asymmetrical missions are fun and interesting, if a little unbalanced
>terrain areas give you more freedom to make your terrain how you want it to look, L shaped hell is thoroughly dead and gone
>cover being -1BS is a ballache for some armies and basically doesn't exist for others, leads to some awkward list building/feelsbad moments for some armies
>being able to hoard mission cards and cash them in later in the game makes comebacks much more feasible, keeps the current lead player on their toes
Overall it's pretty good. Solid like 7/10. I don't have hope for codexes improving this however, if the ork one is anything to go by.
>>

>>

You definitely can, but they behave a bit differently both because of viscosity and pigment density.
Try things out and if you like the result then go for it.
>>
>>98556324
I had 7 games so far. The cover change for me is the biggest as GSC, I can just strip off cover with Ridgerunners and no longer suffer a penalty to my shooting. But I'm mostly playing vs. marines that just reroll everything innately so having -1 to get hit doesn't mean anything, and I no longer get +1 to my save while in cover so I feel like I'm even more fragile than ever.
I don't like the new mission deck overall, I like how the missions change depending on what you play or what you play against but I find it extremely easy to score and it sucks when you lose the game at 90+ points.

I'm doing Bad Moons and running Naz and if you aren't committed to them then you don't deserve to run him

But jokes aside, the best Bad Moonz MANZ paint schemes I've seen are mainly black and use yellow as a pop colour so you could probably make them blend in quite nicely while still having a bad moonz feel if you want.

Before functionally abandoning my Marines, I was painting the top part of their backpacks in a bone color too, in an addition to pauldrons. It made for a nice contrast, making their red heads pop on this bone background. I think it improves their color scheme a lot. I took this idea from one DoW2 art.
Aquila/Imperialis should be easily, trivially convertible into their heraldry with a bit of a greenstuff even by simply plastering a pointy sasuage in the middle, which I was meaning to try when building new marines just to increase variety, but I never actually got to try this since I don't feel like working on them anymore
Since Kronus was a corrupting ground for them and those guys then made that unique company with Victory over Death motto, you could try to add Necron trophies onto them

I've played three games of 11th so far and my initial impression is that I like the scenario changes but not the terrain layouts. It's just too difficult to stage with fragile units unless you're fast enough to cross the entire board in one turn. Keeping a whole hand of secondaries is also silly because it lets you easily make up for bad turns with late game scoring, which makes early aggression and scoring denial kind of pointless and the only thing that really matters is doing damage and killing units. Two games in a row I had one player have a 30 point swing on turn 5 completely inverting the game.

>>
>>98556504
Yeah, the biggest difference is you can score 60 (out of possible 90) points in the last 2 turns. You can easily sacrifice early scoring to get a better position and then hit the opponent with everything.
This has indirectly made armies based on denial like eldar etc worse, move blocking isn't nearly as relevant because you can make up those points later ez pz.

Indeed. The Deldar Raider box and below are empty, I’ve already built/painted them but I haven’t got to clipping the bits from those boxes yet.

Not yet but I plan to, a couple people I know are testing the system out at 500 points. I just need to assemble uh, 6 models + vehicle and then I can join them. And then will be the struggle of painting them
I wish there was a nice way to envision paint schemes for votann like the chapter design images people have made. Apparently making a scheme on the infantry will look bad when you apply it to the vehicles.

Now I’m at the point where I’m just wishing I kept it simple. Maybe you’re right though, once I rough it up a bit it will look better.

As a second thought, I was considering having tentacles and shit coming out all over the place. I wasn’t sure if I should do them in the cannon though. I feel like that would be too much and kinda be like “how does it shoot?”

Not taking one is just handicapping yourself for no reason. In 8th and 9th named characters had the exact same warlord traits you could use on your own dudes so they were there for a bit of extra flavour in exchanged for fixed wargear. Now they are just straight up better than generic HQs and outright mandatory for some armies to even work.

Only got 1 game so far. I'd say the terrain and objectives system is far better than it was in 10th, both visually and mechanically. However one thing I think needs more work is the disposition system. It's a bit of a first try for GW with a system like this (afaik) and it's clear they need a few more iterations for it to be more balanced so that any dispo feels good to play. Other than these two my game felt a lot like 10th.
That being said the Ork codex looks so fun, I've started to theorycraft lists and combos again. So much variety it's got.
me excited to play again. I'm hoping every army gets treatment like the Orks got so we can all have fun experimenting with wacky bullshit like making battlewagons have better shooting than a repex
>>
>>98556504
>Drukhari's damage has really fallen behind the curve
This one annoys me more than it should. The army is kind of ass to play right now where other armies are both faster AND more durable than them and they STILL don't have the damage output to justify being as flimsy as they are and don't have the usual moveblock and scoring denial game to fall back on. Like Wyches are okay but nothing else in the army can advance and charge or do enough damage for their points cost. The fucking Incubi package (Archon, transport, overwatch off) doesn't even trade down efficiently into most hard targets.
>>

The good thing is they can update it by printing a new mission deck rather than having to wait for 12th to fix it.

I've felt way more disadvantaged by random secondaries than I have dispositions so far. PLs should be 200+ point monsters that don't lead units but have wider buffs. They're in-lore primarch level threats that inspire all Craftworld troops with their exploits and Aura. Taking a PL should be a decision. Give Exarch powers back and make them leaders and/or support that you need to pay for, aka Captains/Lieutenants. Autarchs need to be beefed up aswell.

Over the weekend I had a conversation about this with an employee at my LGS, and he was pretty adamant in his stance that proxies, regardless of where they are sourced from, are like stealing from Games Workshop. >>98556757
I’m not sure that the debate is that important where it isn’t stalling the growth of the company. Competition for models with GW might in time keep them more honest with pricing and reinforces to them that the truly special part of GW is the IP (which they should nurture wisely)
>>
>>98556754
>due for a refresh
Primaris shit, search your feelings, you know it to be true.
>squatted
Emperor willing, all the wolf-wolf stuff, everything with a too on-the-nose name, except for Thunderwolf cavalry, which is what they should use instead of bikes, or instead they can deploy a unit of Wulfen. Space Wolves having ONE wolf unit is fine, but it should be the only one that exists in their codex, instead GW should play up the Viking angle far more than they do.
>>
>>98556757
It absolutely is stealing, but GW should combat it by lowering their prices, the 40k IP is worth billions, it's probably worth more than Star Wars after everything the mouse has done, they can afford to sell models at cost.
>>
>>98556757
Nah, it's straight up stupid and the kind of copyright mindset that kills any creativity / new ideas.

Warhammer is not that unique or groundbreaking - games workshop basically just ported generic tolkein fantasy races into sci-fi.

The lore, setting & game they have built around that is fantastic, but anyone can buy whatever sci-fi minis they want and play with their toys however they want.
>>
>>98556777
>I’m not sure that the debate is that important where it isn’t stalling the growth of the company. Competition for models with GW might in time keep them more honest with pricing and reinforces to them that the truly special part of GW is the IP (which they should nurture wisely)

That's more or less my stance on it. I'm also not someone who is completely married to the official models. As long as they look "close enough" I'm cool with using proxies. I'm also more of a "every wargame is miniatures agnostic if you really want it to be" kinda guy.

GW doesn't own the idea of a "space man in power armor with a gun".
Buying a 3rd party model doesn't mean shit even if it is clearly meant to be a space marine or a guardsman analogue. GW doesn't the "IP" or "Patent" or whatever the fuck for a toy soldier.
I could just buy any fucking toysoldier miniature that isn't 40k related in the slightest, say a ww2 US soldier mini, and use that shit for representing a guardsman. And buy couple of tanks to represent leman russes, etc.
And in the mind of the guy you were talking to, he'd conflate this with me "cheating" GW out of money. Even though it makes zero fucking sense.

Nevermind that if I buy the fucking rulebooks/codexes, I own that fucking book and I'm allowed to do whatever the fuck I want with it. And nowhere does it ever say that I'm obligated to use GW minis to play a GW game. That's stupid.
It's like saying that I'm not allowed play Sony games through steam on a PC that runs on windows.

Your guy is a bootlicking faggot and he deserves to have somebody shit on his store floor.
>>
>>98556788
I don't think it is stealing though. At least I don't think that's the right word to use. You're just buying from a competitor. It would be like Ford claiming you are stealing from them because you bought a Nissan.
>>
>>98556725
Nice
>>
>>98556804
It's stealing because if you couldn't 3D print the models, you'd have to buy them. If you used, say, Lego men instead of normal minis, that's different, they're not supposed to be 40k models, 3D printed ones however are. To use your analogy, it's like building a car from scratch in your garage, using parts you made yourself, then slapping a Ford label on it and trying to get it into a Fords only car show. You can drive it around all you like, but when you trying to get it into an actual event with rules, that changes things.

Yeah they're cool, I like the one. It has scouts 8 and lots of guns. The special rule rarely does anything but if you want a scout vehicle he's your guy. 8 is enough to scout onto objectives

>>98556324
Several, a couple with just myself and a few at a store that is over an hour away so I rarely go.

Marines are great. Every rule favors them and they have 23 detachments to make sure choosing a disposition is easy and they have a special character for every situation. They have easy access to LD5 through chaplains so they ignore battleshock and they are two wounds so you can use as many transports as you like they survive it blowing up. They're the easiest army in the entire game and sometimes it feels like GW intentionally writes their rules to not have to worry about things other people have to worry about. So they're great so far.

But my actual true love and main army is SoB, who are ok. They have strong stuff like Vahl and Immolators, but most of their stuff is just eh. They are 10-15 points per model and 1w so they are among the most hurt by the transport rules, and they are LD7 and even their special characters like Freye and Vahl are 6 so they are also hurt by the battleshock changes. Every game is an uphill battle, but that's also part of the fun.

I actually really like 11th edition, I think rules wise it's great, with the way objectives work and asymmetrical missions and the mission cards etc.
>>
>>98556841
"Stealing" still isn't the right word though. And again, the stance of the employee at the LGS wasn't just about 3D prints. He said all proxies are theft, even ones bought from other miniature manufacturers. So he's basically saying buying from GW's competitors is theft and that doesn't sit right with me.

/nogames/ here. Going by the rule of cool and something relevant to the lore is that Vostroyans are governed by a bunch of Adeptus Mechanicus.
Gameplay wise would it go against any rules to have a bit of a racial combined arms? So

>Battle Servitors
>Normal guardsman commissar
or would that just start a shitshow? Not interested in playing tourney, but more for fucking around.

They aren't governed by the Adeptus Mechanicus. Vostroya is governed by the Tech Triarchs which are a council of both Imperial and AdMech officials. It's essentially a jointly run planet that is a hybrid mix between a proper forgeworld and a hive world.

Regardless of gameplay, having battle servitors in a Vostroyan army isn't very lore friendly. They don't actually use AdMech stuff, they just get issued better equipment than other regiments from other worlds due to their close relationship with the AdMech. That's why you'll typically see lots of plasma weapons and other advanced or rare Imperial tech (rare Leman Russ variants, the more advanced variants of super-heavy tanks, etc.) among Vostroyan regiments.

With that said, what you could do is have the Vostroyans as the main body of your Army and include a small support force of AdMech that has some Skitarii and Battle Servitors or Kataphrons.

But I say let 'em. Good for them. They are loyal customers and they're by far the largest customer base so it is what it is.

Although they could spread the love a little bit. There are some factions who have decade+ old models in their line, and there are factions with like a tenth of marine's line. I get marines being favored, it is what it is, but some factions it's a bit ridiculous.

Storm troopers could work, but Vostroyans don't have their own local equivalent like the Cadian Kasrkin or Krieg Grenadiers. This is obscure lore, but the Vostroyans do have their own variant of Rough Riders that are kind of like real world Polish Winged Hussars.

As for Leman Russ variants, they would be more likely to have Executioners (plasma weaponry), Eradicators (they are kind of urban combat specialists) or Vanquishers (increasingly rare variant in the lore since the main Forgeworld that made them was destroyed and only a few others can produce knock-off versions).

It is the right word, because you're doing a thing that normally you have to pay GW to access. You can't use minis from other games/ones you print yourself at GW events (the metaphorical car show), you're expected to buy the models. It's no different than sneaking into a concert without buying a ticket, which is a form of theft. But in casual games with your friends (the metaphorical driving around) there's no reason not to use whatever you want.
>He said all proxies are theft
And he's wrong, but that's not what I was speaking about. However if he was talking about printed minis only he'd be right, because he's the guy you'd be buying them from, playing in his store assumes you're a customer, or at least a potential customer, that is the unspoken agreement. If you're making your own minis however, how is he supposed to sell you any? If he literally can't sell you anything, why should he allow you to be there?

what this does mean is for armies like eldar and sob and the like who are not only t3, but also still using old s4/s5 bolters and flamers, is that they're even lower on the stat end of things.

I don't have an issue with alternative rules inherently, I have an issue with the complete scumfuck behavior of the OPR owner (and community in general as anon mentioned above). You can find the guy in the /tg/ archives fully admitting he's here and he bitches and whines and gets really nasty and hostile at anyone who doesn't suck the dick of his shitty ass "games" that turned out to be made for soulless profit, not to actually make good alternative rules. The one page is free but then they try to sell you all these expansions and then started producing their own minis, so OPR sees any other sets of (almost always much better) alternative rules as competition and uses nasty fake shilling tactics to attack them and push their own garbage. It's fucking insufferable.

People who want to support alternative rules to stick it to GW for being enshittified corporate asshats should be aware that OPR isn't the heroic underdog trying to right GWs wrongs, they're a slimy fucking parasite attached to GW's underbelly that would be just as bad if not worse in terms of dishonest and shitty business practices if they managed to claw their way up to the level of GW's success, which thankfully, they never will. But in no world should we be letting their worthless trash be shilled in the OP.

Elf lists are just going to skew to way less units now. I felt for Craftworlds at least there weren't really any "bad units", Ive seen literally every unit in various 5-0/4-1 lists, but every S4 weapon (of which the majority of infantry have) just got way fucking worse.

Still kinda weird though. You'd think they'd just throw the kit into the bin already.
It's old but their design is old and they don't fit size wise into the modern marine army either and stick out like a sore thumb. So why even keep them around?

If primaris never sold and everyone hated them, like people in these threads claim, GW would've reversed primaris existing in 2018 already.

Like the unprecedented codex creep of 9th edition all over again but even worse. What the actual FUCK is GW thinking? You don't do huge stat changes like this during a backwards compatible edition, you save it for something like 10th where all the rules are redone at once and everyone gets a fresh index. This is fucking insanity.

Also Tacs going to Legends along with basically every Rhino chassis vehicle is the last fucking straw. They can suck a fat dick. 3x Fire Prisms, 18x Wraith guard/blade, 3x Wraithlord, 30x Fire Dragons, Fuegan, Eldrad, mix of warlocks and seers

>>98557568
Sisters going to t3w2 isn't going to fix shit because the s6ap-1 gun that the basic intercessor has does 2 damage per shot, and the assault version with s5ap-1 does 2 attacks of 1 damage, so it'd just be "either stay where you are and roll 1 die per gun or move and roll 2 per gun" because the SoB break points are still cleared handily by either profile.
Unless all SoB units get point values slashed, this is just "go fuck yourself if you play Sisters."
>>98557616
>full plate armor
Lorica Segmentata from the early Roman Imperial period; this is especially relevant with the PopHis understanding of Roman legionnaires and centurions, which the marines are based in part off of with their structure (at least in HH) and certain units literally being named "Centurions."
Various Panoplies from the Mycenaean era
The earliest examples of cuisse and greaves (plate leg armor) are from the Mycenaean era
Those classical "plate that looks like the torso beneath" are real and have historical examples from the 5th century BC.
"Plate armor" is not new to high medieval knights. Yes it became more mature through time, but the idea of "caped warrior wearing plate armor" has (provably with archaeological evidence) existed for over 2 and a half millennia in the western tradition.

>>98557653
I don't know if it will necessarily, do the ork and SM buffs cancel each other out? Maybe? I'm guessing everyone is going to get power crept, not sure why, do they think they will have some more granularity or something? I don't know how they'll do that for T3 armies though. If you just buff their shooting to match Orks and SM you still end up with lopsided result depending on who can set up a better shooting phase. Also not every T3 army makes sense to make horde. Cover gets buffed but then they hand out ignores cover like candy to Orks. Do we know what codex is after SM?

>Legend'ing the tanks makes me think they'll do the same for CSM so this lets armies at least know which units are next on the chopping block.
Dingus, they can do that for SM because SM got new vehicles that fulfill all the rules of those firstborn vehicles. CSM don't have anything new to replace preds and the such. Besides using old vehicles fits their lore better (since the whole le heresy thing)

The funniest part about this is that it'll probably result in an arms race. Now everyone's army will need to be built to counter an army that'll likely hit them on 2's/3's and wounding on 2's with rerolls or some buffs somewhere in the mix.

I don't know how they'll be able to reel this in: they've invalided entire swathes of people's collections and that'll probably go on to call into question if it's worth buying certain models for any faction because of pruning.

Maybe this is the excuse they need to boot Age of the Emperor or whatever.

If you ever wonder what someone means when you hear the phrase "literacy crisis", remember this day. When an article that was only a few paragraphs long explicitly said only several things, in very clear terms, and you still had a dozen posts immediately misunderstanding what as said. The units that are being sent to legends was explicitly listed, the units being used as proxies for other units were explicitly listed, and the changes to CSM were explicitly listed. I am astounded by some of the questions you people asked, or worse the various ways you immediately mistranslated a very short article that used clear language.

Here's the irrevocable truth.

40k 8th edition was the litmus test, if you're still here after it buying GW's shit or playing their games (be it Horus Heresy, 40k, Necromunda, anything)
There are 3 categories you can fall into
>you actually like what they have done and don't mind it, liked 10th edition, which is by far the worst edition of 40k ever. Yes, it is, don't try to deny it.
or
>you still actually like what they have done and are just in purely denial of it.
or
>you're genuinely too far gone due to your sunkcost fallacy mentality.
Whichever it is, you deserve everything GW is going to do. Yes, even all of the hypothetical shit they'll do in the future.

The game was dumpstered two editions ago and hasn't gotten any better since, you've been rolling in shit for years and are now complaining that you're getting maggots in your mouth.
You get what you deserve.
