>be me
>see Shadowrun 1e in LGS
>buy it on a whim
>game looks rad on paper
>hear that it needs heavy patching

And now I'm here. What do I need to think about before starting a campaign. Meaning what needs tweaking, is the introductory adventure at the back good etc. Inspirational reading and music recomendations are also welcome. Thanks in advance Anons

>Take the setting
>Use a less shitty system

Thats basically your option. Even among SR fans, 1e is considered just a worse version of 2e.
>>
Just play it and find out if there are any problems and fix them as they come up.
99% of pre-emptive system "fixes" involves tertiaries trying to push something they heard once on a forum, probably from someone half-retarded.
You'd be surprised how little actually needs fixing at any given table.

ummm...OP didn't mention that he would be playing the game. He just wants to fix it.

What's the best system for Shadowrun? I've heard Cyberpunk Red, Worlds Beyond Number, Savage Worlds, and GURPS have all been used before. 5E might not be too bad.

I'd say run it for a couple of sessions than give the other editions a read

Damn.. I did not know Shadowrun had that much sauce..
>>

Unironically run it as is. You’re holding the edition that started it all, so don’t let hopped up min-maxing mathfreaks ruin your fun. I think that if you and your boys just give it a shot you’ll have a blast, damn what the tweaking patching fixing screamer horde say online. If this was back then you wouldn’t even figure that the game was that busted. Shadowrun GMs and players really forget to ENJOY THE FUCKING GGGGAAMMMEEEEEE.

>Just enjoy the game bro!
>The game in question is a broken shitty mess that, even when it's working as intended, is still a grab bag of unintuitive subsystems and endless pixel bitching for a shitload of + and - 1s.

I used Carbon 2185 and let people have magic from regular 5e so I could play with 5e rubes

Worked well enough.
I think any of the options you mentioned would be fine though. Cities Beyond Number for Worlds Beyond Number. Cyperbunk supplement for GURPS.

they would once the dice rolls started

saving this thread because there should always be a shadowrun thread

5th Edition, 3rd Edition and 4th Edition were the best. Although the setting for 4th was contentious/radically different because of how they tried to modernise Decking/Hacking to make it work better at the table. 5e walked some of it back.

The Anarchy 2.0 system is really good. Catalyst needs to get off their asses and release it already but they're too busy sucking off the kickstarters. Just pirate it, get the expanded shadow amp list, and you're good.
>>
>>98563056
The GURPS magic system is broadly similar but it wouldn't be my go-to for cyberpunk otherwise

Just make sure you never play a pre-made adventure made for Shadowrun. I've looked through nearly every single official one and they are just so awful. If I was part of making them I wouldn't want to be credited. Just complete garbage.
And the worst part, they don't include maps! What the fuck? Not even a sketch. It's bullshit.

I kind of wish I'd just backed the fucking thing, I have a group right now that I think would enjoy it but I feel like CGL is just gonna shadow drop thr fucking thing six months from now.

Black Book is kick-starting 2 supplements for it, it would be nice if the line got some legs under it.
>>
>>98585601
haven't read anything anarchy 1.0 or 2.0 how it is?
>>

Unless you have a group that is Really into shadowrun, then the shadowrun 4th edition 20th anniversary version core rulebook is all you need
