My buddy and I have our theories about why, and it mostly boils down to not wanting to make any effort. Playing a new format is a big mental load, and custom gaming has a lot more setup time than blasting drafts on arena.They have maximized magic's dopamine delivery to such a degree that trying to build your own format leaves players unsatisfied because things are less efficient than T1 Ocelot, T2 Voice, T3 Gut, Game, and players don't want to do more than that when they've experienced victory the effortless way.I used to run my own cube and be a member of two other weekly groups, and now none of us can get enough participants now. I hear of many such cases. I post here so guaranteed I'm too smelly to play with, but the other leaders are charismatic people I promise you. Sales are up but games of magic played are in decline.
