magic is so fucking stupid and games do it in the least credible and realistic way imaginable.
>>

You'll be alot happier if you just stop playing D&Dogshit.

u wot ????

"magic", the concept, comes from types of people who simply had more knowledge of the natural world, and protected that knowledge with closed-circle subcultures
>zoroastrian magi
>celtic druids
>monkhoods
>mayan astronomers

in TTRPG culture, magic isn't some clever art or deep occult secret, but instead it's represented by the party's biggest retard having rocket launcher arms for no good reason

The damage output of wizards isn't even the problem, it's having narrative breaking spells that make them a headache to DM for.
>>

>narrative breaking spells
which spell is capable of breaking a narrative?

Even something as minor as spells like Detect X should and would be used to vet people for positions in government so there goes your evil advisor poisoning the king's mind. Divination and Scrying in general. I'm not going to sit here are go through the SRD listing everything.

I agree with you. The amount of wealth that would go into actually constructing a dungeon with all the proper protections would far out strip any profit using the dungeon with generate. The entire game is fucked. This is why I don't play D&D.

"logically the NPCs would do X" is NOT a gameplay problem. If the vizier is evil, then he passed through their screening process for any reason the GM cares to imagine - or none. No part of the setting backstory needs to be explained.

Some people need verisimilitude because their autism won't let them accept hand waves. My group is completely autistic.
>>
>>98577229
That's not a problem exclusive to D&D anymore either. The new edition of Savage Worlds basically imported high-level D&D magic to the game wholesale and fucking ruined the game. It was insane how quickly I went from "oh well I never liked how this game didn't have good legendary-tier content for characters" to "holy fuck this has turned the entire campaign into wizard-vs-wizard and the only things that are any challenge for the PCs are other high-level PCs"

What a joke.
>>
>>98578044
any evil vizier who cannot snake his way around an elementary divination is not an evil vizier who deserves to sit at the center of a narrative

The obstetrician in my group has as low of an opinion on dnd as the rest of us

If you're playing 5e, the Detect Evil and Good spell senses the location of Aberrations, Celestials, Elementals, Fey, Fiends, and Undead within 30 feet.

How does that tell you anything about an evil advisor, unless the advisor is a particular type of monster in disguise?
>>
>>98580636
I'm talking about 3.5 because it is the last edition of D&D I played before my group switching to FFG RPGs.

>the game where ugly unfit midwife can pretend to be smart strong and attractive
That's almost all roleplaying games. Not literally all, because in some games you might not end up with a smart, strong and attractive character even if you want to, but most of them.

He'd be happier if he stuck to books with TSR printed on them.

People can be midwits no matter what era that what racism is all about!
