>TQI quite like the look of spires and dweghom from conquest. Warhammer has the most appealing aesthetics to me.
>>98582497as much as i love 40k, it has to be Battletech for me, classic aesthetic. But if we're sticking to /awg/ stuff, nothing beats Conquest minis for me.
Warring states next week.
>>98582497Aesthethic wise, Hmm Warmachine has a lot of things I like, and a whole other I dislike, like the Pualdrones and the oversize body parts. Confrontations, tough has some of that, it also is extremely french in they taste than makes it work better, so its either that or a Paul Bonner/adrian smith one.
>What is your favourite wargame when it comes to art and aesthetic?Old Battletech (FASA times). Now, how popular is the Modiphius Fallout:Factions game is?
>>98583013>how popular is the Modiphius Fallout:Factions game is?Not very. It has a community on facebook, but it's not something you can expect to see in the average game store.
>>98583033Its a shame. My group started to play the game, and some people even show interest when we were playing in stores, but Modiphius only ships to Europe and US/Australia it seems...
>>98583179Yeah that sounds like Modiphius alright. To this day, I still don't understand how they haven't went under.
>>98583013I imagine not very given that we already have a fallout tabletop wargame.
My copy of Oathmark 2nd edition came in the post today. I'm going to have a comfy read of it this evening with a cup of tea and some apple pie.
>>98583556Sounds like kino times to me anon
>>98583556Noice. What faction do you like?
Power armour boys... big
>>98583462You mean Wasteland Warfare? desu i never like it too much. I prefer Factions, as is a skirmish game similar to Necromunda.

>>98583899Let us know the major changes and what they merged from the addition stuff, like I saw that undead are part of the base rules now, but not halflings, and want to see if stuff like Javelins and phalanx are part of the base rules now. >>98583899Mind grabbing pictures of anything Dwarf related, please?
>>98583915annoyingly the special unit rules like phalanx, javelins, skirmish are not in the new edition, which is frankly just dumb.
>>98583890It's literally painful to the ears.
>>98583831Same as factions, nothing stopping a guy from playing FWW as it already was though. For me it doean't matter much, I'll print and paint fallout minis even without a game to play them with.

>>98584301Painting is fun, figure it out.
>>98584346NTA but painting is a chore. A necessary one but a chore nonetheless.

>>98584346I've been wargaming for over 10 years now and painting remains the worst part of the hobby. I just spent 6 hours on removing the mould lines and I would take it all day every day over 6 minutes of painting.
>>98584391Are you trying too hard?I just aim for something I'd not be embarrassed to table, and I find it very relaxing.Of course, other people go crazy on it and also find it very relaxing.I'm not so much a stickler for everything being perfect, I just hate playing with grey plastic.>six hours removing mould linesIt sounds like you're trying too hard.Mind you, you didn't say what you were removing mould lines for. That's a more reasonable amount of time for assembling a whole box set, or a very large model.
XCOM Anon Here. The campaign continues.I had a Retrieval Mission, which turned out to be a doddle when they give Support class troopers access to Sonic the Hedgehog's Sneakers as their Class ability. He literally ran to the building. Up the stairs. Grabbed the item. Ran down the stairs. Left.Meanwhile the SHIV disabled the western spawn point, and the huge swarm of blips magically went away the moment I hit 12 aliens. Therese continues to accrue an amount of kills that a Local Constabulary would consider "a spree". This time yeeting a grenade into a cluster of Sectoids before Skeleton Suiting up the building for better shots.I think a lot of why I'm having such an easy time is because this game looks for low numbers, not high... and my dicerolls for this are GARBAGE in any other game system. We'll see if things get tougher next, I rolled retrieval again, which means I get to choose, so I went "Fuck it. Gotta do a Terror Mission at some point I guess?"So, I guess we'll see how that goes? It does mean packing Thin Men, Floaters AND Chrysallids all in one box though.
>>98584358>>98584363>>98584391You guys are in the wrong hobby.Painting is fun, I paint almost every day, my painting supplies permanently occupy 80% of my kitchen table.

>>98582730Holy slop
>>98584620I like painting, but the time commitment involved to complete a painted project is simply too long to make it enjoyable. I enjoy painting and I think I've become pretty decent at it over the years, and fell into my own "style," but the fact is takes hundreds of hours to complete a small napoleonic army and play a game makes it more of a chore than a fun process overall.
>>98585590Burrows and Badger?

There are 6 rings on the map, but if your playing a campaign, which is the expected way to play, you only start out to territory 4. Some of the more powerful stuff is territory ring 6 only, eg dragons. Every race has its own special rule called a 'trait' that I am in two minds over. Undead are in the core book. Modifiers now affect the TN not the dice roll. There are new scenarios and advice on multilayer games. I havnt had a proper read through yet.

>>98586330Perryfaggot is onfamous here and on /hwg/ for spamming the same set piece photos of his minis and berating others for not playing the correct games (he doesn't play). He spent a while screeching at me because i was playing Oathmark and posting about it here, he kept telling me to play nmtbh fantasia which is a dogshit game with some of the most boring and bland 'fantasy' rules. Eg, all monsters have the exact same stats and you can buy up to 5 special rules for them iirc, one which was literally an extra wound (they started with one). All units had identical stats, magic was done in a bland, boring way with a handful of universal spells, etc.But he seethe eternally over Oathmark and how it let's units *checks notes, ah yes, reform to the rear or wheel. According to him rank and file units should just march straight ahead with no course change or anything I guess.
>>98586175could you explain how you can't spin around and charge? I'm reading the 2nd edition rules right now and it seems like there really is no limitation to manoeuvres. So, seemingly you can wheel or pivot to spin around to your own flank or rear, then use your second action to charge into a unit which at the beginning of the activation was in your flank or rear.
>>98586376>a unit threatened to it's rear reforms and engages to its rear:0

>>98586533So long as they're on the right bases and your opponents not a faggot you should be able to easily get some kitbashing going.
>>98586515It does, if you pin the enemy unit with a threat to the front or another flank. If you just send a unit wandering all the way around the back with nothing to keep the enemy focused in one direction you shouldn't act surprised when the unit turns to meet you.

>>98586365Ahh, this suddenly makes sense. I posted Oathmark games a couple weeks back and that must've been the guy who had a fit about it.

>>98587070Since this is /awg/ rather than /hwg/, presumably The Silver Bayonet
>>98582993Oh boy only another 4 more years to wait for the cavalry, heroes and chariots!
>>98584358>>98584363>>98584391Painting is fun and easily the most enjoyable aspect of the hobby. Only the soulless hate painting.
>>98586515You should like oathmark more then because it requires you to set up a flank by various means. keeping a unit engaged via using chaff to charge it and eating up that units activation for the turn (units who haven't activated yet that are attacked can't activate that turn after the combat). hitting them with ranged attacks and making them fail their morale check and thus forcing the unit to waste its possible successful activation on reorganizing for the turn. (not a sure fire thing but if a unit has sustained alot of casualties then it becomes increasingly more possible to do).Or you can just keep a unit threatend with units to the front and rear making it be flanked no matter what it does. Or keep a high value unit threatened to force your opponent to attempt to activate them first before the flanked unit. (Probably the hardest way to achieve a flank)
>>98586314>>98586315>>98586318>>98586321>>98586325Thank you for humoring my request and posting the Dwarf pages, Anon! I was sleeping, but very happy to see your reply and content!

>>98588350Or maybe he just very reasonably thinks an unit shouldn't be able to to do an about face and then immediately charge in the same turn?
>>98588378What gave you the idea that's reasonable? It happens all the time in real life.
>>98588378I see, you lost a game because of that and decided anything that makes you lose is cheating. Petulant child.
>>98588384I don't really care about the realism argument. To me it just feels wrong that you can just as easily charge an unit that is right in front of you and an unit that is behind you. Makes it feel more like a skirmish game where all units have 360 line of sight instead of rank-and-file game where unit's facing matters.>>98588392I wasn't the original anon, I haven't played Oathmark. Just remarking that wanting a rank and flank game where units can't charge units they can't see seemed a pretty reasonable request to me. It wouldn't be a dealbreaker for me, but I can certainly understand why it would be for other people.
>>98588378To be frank an about face + charge against a unit attempting to do a flanking maneuver has never come up in any of my games I've played. Far too many factors make it highly improbable that it would happen. From initiative rolls, to activation rolls to the unit set up, unit positions, to units being disordered, to the terrain set up etc... is it a possibility in the rules? Yes. Will it happen. Not unless you specifically try to make it happen. This whole thing is just a whiteboard argument from people who've never put minis to table to play a game of oathmark. >haven't played Oathmark. Case and point.
>>98588299>>98588305>>98588350NTA, I haven't read Oathmark 2, but at least in Oathmark 1 there was no restriction on the degree that a unit could pivot or wheel. For example, most rank and flank games restrict the degree you can pivot your formation to 90°, 45° or whatever. This makes you the player have to think about how you are maneuver your formations or else you can get caught out on the open just like a real battle, and captures the feeling of difficulty it takes to maneuver troops on the battlefield. In Oathmark you don't have to put any thought into your maneuvering, because you can freely spin about at will. In effect this makes Oathmark feel less like a rank and flank game and more like a "squad" based game that just happens to have facing and guys standing in rectangle. The 720° meme comes from the fact there is no restrictions on degree of pivot, so you could theoretically pivot a whole 360° and then another 360° degree again(making 720°) just to be back where you started and then continue moving forward, all with zero consequences according to the rules. A larger issue is that because Oathmark doesn't restrict the amount of degrees you can pivot on one action, there can theoretically be an entire enemy unit directly behind you facing your rear. A devastating blunder and sign of a truly poor tabletop commander, right? Except not, because in Oathmark you can just freely pivot off your left or right corner 270° and now you're somehow BESIDES the enemy behind you and you charge him directly in his flank. So it's not an issue of "reforming to the rear" like that one disingenuous anon is pretending. When asking about this issue on the Oathmark facebook group, Joseph McCullough confirmed that yes it's possible to do that in the rules, and responded with something along the lines of "he doesn't think it's a big deal because it is a rare situation anyways"
>>98588471right, so as anon and the writer said it's only an issue if you are a faggot and make it one (for yourself and ruining your own match with it)
>>98588471Not true. In history unless they were using muskets or pikes, they would just literally turn around, they dont need to reform the front rank, the back rank becomes the front rank, as in, the whole position doesnt start shuffling around, the guys at the back form the front... this takes seconds. People were not automatons, they didnt see the enemy coming from behind and when they are being stabbed in the back just keep looking forward because its not their turn to attack yet, in a turn based game this is not easy to represent but its simulating the force having the time to say "theyre behind us" and facing them, where if they get hit they did not turn in time or their attention is drawn in another direction.
>>98588471>no restrictions Out right lies. You can't maneuver into difficult terrain, doing so immediately ends a units activated move. You can't maneuver through an enemy unit. You can't end your maneuver on a friendly unit. You cant maneuver through impassable terrain (cliffs, huge boulders, etc). You can't end your maneuver on passable terrain (low fences, short walls etc....). Again. White boarding with out ever playing. In actual games with terrain, enemy units, your own units and how the game has flowed it's very unlikely you'll ever be in the position to maneuver to such a degree that you can flank units so easily. Also everyone fucking forgets that doing a maneuver eats up your ability to double move which will limit the range of your guys charge or that units can only move straight forward for a charge or that you need LOS on over 1/2 of the units of the facing youbare charging.
>>98588450Why would we put minis on the table to deliberately play a game with such poorly written oversights?>>98588505>Players find glaring problem and instead of fixing the problem or admitting his mistake the author tries to cover his ass by dismissing it >>98588519This isn't an issue of turning around, it's an issue of charging an enemy behind you from his side>>98588527Nice strawman, but notice you didn't deny you can spin in place 720°+ or charge an enemy to the rears flank
>>98588588>educated on the actual rules>strawman!>told it's only possible if two players agree to make it happen.>the games broken!!!Retard. Maneuvering eats up a units ability to double move thus an aboutface counter charge to a flanking unit would require the flanking unit to be within 6" (5" for dwarves 9" for faster units). The flanking player would have to deliberately set this up either through ignorance or trying to throw the game by moving his unit within a single move charge range. Again this is a whiteboard scenario (an imagined perfect scenario where this can and does happen.) where in reality this dosen't come up in actual play.Stop seething about a game you don't play or will ever play and talk about games you do play or like you unrepentant petulant faggot.
How the hell do you get the fluff for the armies for warmachine if you don't like apps? 'ate em, discord too.
>>98588588As mentioned, its hard to simulate whats happening in a turn based game.
Maybe Billhooksfag was right all along, this Oathmark guy really is a schizo
>>98588588>Players find glaring problem and instead of fixing the problem or admitting his mistake the author tries to cover his ass by dismissing itIf you need the author to hold your hand for every obvious gamey edgecase that ruins at least one player's fun in a match, but are actually very easily solved, then I hope I'll never have to play with you or people like you

>>98588684I love when people just say shit and claim its consensus. Youre talking about the time of real time shit in a turn base format, this is not a unique problem to Oathmark.
>>98588672Sadly, that's it. SFG sometimes posts quick rundown in news articles, but most of it is in the app.
Do you prefer NPCs go in their own phase after the players (ala Frostgrave) or mixed in alternate activations with the players? For skirmish games with neutral enemies
>>98588684Why is that the most boring, bland, uninspired, lowest common demonminator SLOP, gets the most ardent defenders? Why don't we get people who sperg out about interesting rulesets? Like Armies of Arcana, Fantasy Rules! or Fantastic Battles. Why is it always trash rules that attract these cretins.
>>98588989Their own phase. It's faster and means you don't have to worry about the order they activate in.
>>98588238You're full of shit I've been here long enough to remember the Nevermind the Billhook vs Oathmark feud. The sole fact that Oathmark anon still plays and talk about his game years later while Perryfag never post about Nevermind the Billhook anymore but keep crusading here tells me all I need to know about who was right or wrong.
>>98589001Perhaps you should talk about those games and be the change you want to see?
Soon as my Oathmark 2E book comes in I'm gonna arrange a game and post a batrep. From what I've seen so far the biggest issue is that Orcs got screwed over by being the same cost and statline as humans, but worse activation. Talked with the other guy in town who plays and we're considering giving them a rule to address this.
>>98589200I'm personally just going to keep using the 1e rules for their stats.
>>98589288Also an option yeah. Though probably 2E rules for stuff like dragons and artillery.

You messed up. Literal skill issue.>>98588238Perryfag posted here many times arguing with me and screeching about nmtbh being superior to oathmark. If you care to browse the archive I am sure you will find him and his photo shoots of lovingly posed minis.>>98587683Np anon, enjoy. Want the Dwarf spells too? I realise I forgot them.
>>98588588>>98588703>>98588471Let's put it this way.For your situation to occur... well it can't actually because an entire army would not be able to wheel, at best you can do 3 activations (leader in a unit with command 2) then your opponent gets to start hitting you in the rear, and the position of friendly units will disrupt your turning assuming you have not left perfect unit width gaps between each unit, and terrain does not further hamper it, so at best your getting some units to about face in place and bracing for a charge unless your opponent has been stupid enough to get within one move of your guys. The only way your drift into a flank charge works is if the unit to the rear has just stopped within an inch of the unit it wants to rear charge and there is no pinning enemy unit to the front of said target or terrain/other units to stop them turning, at which point you really did ask for it. As in, you shat the bed hard there.
>>98589359>Np anon, enjoy. Want the Dwarf spells too? I realise I forgot them.I would love and appreciate the spell rules, thank you!
>>98589359Could you post the orcs stuff? I heard they got fucked, like goblins got a rule that they dont cause cascading morale checks any more, but orcs still do so they are now worse than goblins.

>>98589677Thanks, as an orc player I no longer want to play orcs and am probably going to just replace that contingent with humans or say they are goblins instead. Thats TERRIBLE balancing, holy shit.Anyone using spears negates this "racial ability", this was already how you did this, wild charge is good but it was never THAT good. I dont even see how orcs stand in fights now with these new racials and how the points costs have changed, like their spellcaster is still utterly worthless too. Is there even anything added to them or was it literally just nerfs? Im actually kindof pissed how terrible this is.
>>98589757Nothing. I used to run "orcs" using Celt minis but I think I'm going to transition to humans or undead. I've got skellies and early saxons so could do either.
>>98589757>>98589792Actually thinking about it, Goblins are kind of trash as a standalone nation too, their trait is literally that they do not cause cascading panic in other races when they run.
>>98589757I think using 1e stats for them and dropping their price point by 1 across the board might make them more balanced. I think goblins need something more than not causing cascading panic in other troops.

>>98589807Could you show their stuff to see if the point costs are worth it at least? Like the only way I can see something like orcs even being viable is if they also have cheap goblins to soak up all ranged fire and allow orcs to get in close without suffering morale checks, it seems like if you want to play either they have to have a mixed race force, but the point cost just doesnt seem worth it any more because of the new stuff other races get. These abilities are good, but they are woeful compared to what the others get and the point cost and stat lines. Like you cant even employ a horde of units to face something like a small contingent of dwarves, because they arent that much more expensive, youll have a roundabout similar amount of fucking units on both sides. So you have a weak horde faction on one side, but the quality army on the other side only has like 10 less guys.I now want to see a pure elf army of nothing but archers fighting orcs and goblins, theres no way they tested stuff like this.
>>98589892Here's a concept I'm toying with to provide a homebrew patch>Ferocity(rule for all orc units): When a unit with this rule finishes an activation, choose one other unit with this rule within 6" of it that has already activated this turn. That unit may make one Move action. This can carry that unit into combat, but it suffers the normal penalty for having already activated this turn. Each unit can benefit from this activation only once per turn.Compensates for Activation 6 and low Fight by letting units occasionally, with proper positioning, move or fight twice, but it's telegraphed because your opponent knows which units have already activated, and it requires mutual support to trigger.
>>98586325>taking phalanx and shieldwall out fo what worked quite well as an oops all humans rank and flank ancient to medieval gameHonestly I like a Joe Book, I have a few Merseys but I wonder what design philosophy informed that. There was an oportunity with D10 scaling and the morale rules to encompass a couple of more missile weapons, pikes, full plate. Then it would be a true Fantasy Battles Heartbreaker to solve that question.Also...some notes about using other scales or multibased figures would be niceOsprey do great V2ing some things like Lion Rampant is a great club game but jeez do some titles need it (the Doomed, a War Transformed)
>>98587362I think it's more people need to learn how to enjoy painting. It's a mindset thing...it becomes a lot easier when you just "go" with the activity. For me now I just play a few cursory solo games or some eith my brother to justify buying and painting more elves.
>>98589807I correct myself, only the slaves do not cause panic when they break
>>98591048>>98589892On it now anon. So far they do seem a little bit cheaper but they also lack any trait bar charge 1. Only slaves get expected to run.
>>98591058>>98590465Tbh I think the special training and other units like engineers, animated statues, etc, are going to be in an expansion
>>98591063
>>98590465Oathmark seems like a fun game, but it's locked to a early middle ages fantasy setting. Would've loved to have seen optional rules for gunpowder, crossbows, pikes, pavises, heavy mounted archers etc.
>>98591063And that's a wrap. I'll play it to try out, but I do think I'm going to go back to the 1e units for orcs at least. Some fag on the fb group was claiming Orc linebreakers were op but imo the extra pip of fight made up for the poor activation across the army and lack of heavy cavalry.>>98590477Tbh you can burn out. I know I have been getting that way for the past year and a friend forcing me to paint my sisters of battle midhammer army this month has burned me out. I just want to relax and sketch or watch anime or build a scale model kit.
One of the things I've never understood about Oathmark, and which I still don't get in 2nd edition, is why such arbitrary monsters are included in race specific lists. Aside from maybe Trolls being specifically tied to Goblins which makes sense, every monster would be better off being in its own neutral monster list imo.I also wish the kingdom building section had an in-built random generation dice rolling list. I will just have to come up with a way of doing that myself.
>>98591270It's just to put them somewhere I guess, or where Joseph thought they best fit
>>98591270I mean, why not? It's not like you can't recruit from other pools. It just gives each faction "signature" monster options, and creates a little implicit worldbuilding, that can be just as easily handwaved away.Fun fact; "Eachy" is derived from the name "Eochaid" which means "Horse-Man"
>>98591078Ive seen people using lansknechts for it just fine. The rangers dont have the "fire over" and have to pick targets, just use them as firearms guys. Its the kind of game where so long as its consistent people dont care what they look like.
>>98591442Can confirm, I used Eachies and Bargheist in my Orc (Celt) army
>>98591270The monsters are under specific racial lists but they ain't locked to those races. There's nothing stopping goblins from having giant spiders or humans from having barghiests. It's all how you build your kingdom.
>>98591270>rolling dice to build your kingdomThis would only be useful for people wjo are indecisive about what minis to get or already have minis for everything.
I love to look and compare different models from different companies. Each one of these were made in different years, different company, different games. (Somewhat chalky zenithal will disappear when smooth paint put on it)
>>98591874Or for deciding what minis to buy youse frens.
>>98592456They seem to be made out of stone, nice tecnhique (or its just dust?)Mantic basilean are kind of meh, like hte humans from Might and magic., Luv the Eldar, specially the Exodites (wich will enver be done justice, hard to imagine they have fucked up Dino riders and knightly elfs, but well)And hte boar, is a Warmachine one? They have ever been my prefered faction, the farrows/thornfall alliance, like an african warlord trying to make a nation out of all kinds of fucked up bands, and doing it at the end. Shame the game is in such a state, teh lore was top tier and I loved lots of the tales/books it had.
>>98592591It's black primer with grey primer sprayed from above, but it's a cheaper one not made for miniatures which means it comes out a bit sporadic and dusty. I really like how it looks too and would like to have a model on a plinth like the statue you described. The Eldar is super cool, it's Karseth from the corsairs and the helmet is the same as the original farseer helmet in roguetrader. The basilean is a very very meh model, but has got some nice details it's very boring though I hope to do a nice scheme that uplifts it. The boar is Farrow commando from warmachine just like you thought. Im really really impressed by the sculpt level considering the age. Even more impressed from the quality considering I bought the squad from ebay for £7 and it is fully 3d printed. Warmachine has 3 fully 3d printable armies now and its great how it holds up so well against that Eldar which is the peak of plastics really. The lore for warmachine is amazing, im glad the new stuff is moving in a better direction than the start of the revival which focused on a bunch of time skipness
WIP on some cultist spearmen Im working on for a homebrew, first time drilling and making custom polearms for spears. Plastic glue is a must, superglue is inferior.
>>98592948>superglue is inferior.Terrible stuff. It's what prevents me from working with Resin.
>>985929823D resin models are fine unless you need fiddly bits and spears are one of those things no printer handles better than cast plastic welded together by acids.
