Have you ever played a character who committed suicide? Tell me their story.
Does "walked into an obvious deadly trap" count?
I had a Cyberpunk RED character who went cyberpsycho and took her own life. She was a rockerboy, a former idol who quit her job and got addicted to every type of streetdrug. Her entire arc was about trying to reconnect with her friend and former unit member.Eventually, her friend was kidnapped by an obsessed idol fan. During the rescue mission, it was revealed that the friend had been tortured and developed severe stockholm syndrome towards her abuser. After the group killed the kidnapper, the friend took her own life, causing my character to go cyberpsycho (she was already on the brink because of the aforementioned drugs, and her comical amount of cyberware). She walked into the other room by herself, and the rest of the party heard a single gunshot. The group was aware going in that this would be our final session, so I told the GM to not pull any punches. I made this character specifically to suffer.
>>98584877>>98584469Funnily enough my story is also from a Cyberpunk game though it was the genre, not the system, and was a digimon game. We found this vampire schizo tech (the gm's words, not mine) that could digitize your dna and thus you (somehow) which was apparently used to make "Taichi" immortal in the past and multiple characters used it at the end of the game after we fucked everything up, and my character whiffed his roll to survive the process, and since it was willingly done I think that counts as suicide. His digimon spent the rest of her days as a miserable recluse as a result. Another PC ended up fused with his digimon forever and forgetting his humanity, the third one died and lived on due to using her data to fix her digimon's core, and the final PC was blinded when his cyber eyes got blown up in his head through his own fuckup at trying to fix them and he lived alone in the ruins of the artificial island city.
>>98584877Damn. That's pretty metal actually
>>98584469Vow of Peace cleric with Vow of Poverty during a sundering of magic that affected all magic items and spellcasters, utterly destroying the balance of power and sparking a war. Though she was mid at best (the downsides of those vows make them trap options in most games), having those vows now made her one of the most powerful people in the world in terms of sheer stats, and a growing empire wanted her power for their own and she became a priority target for capture and enlistment.A few bad decisions on my part resulted in her being isolated surrounded by a strike force of rangers and their beast companions that were formed specifically to counter her since natural weapons are not destroyed by vow of peace. DM thought that I would've surrendered, but instead I took one fallen enemy's poisoned weapon and threatened to stab myself with it, essentially taking myself hostage. This would have violated vow of poverty (using a non-simple weapon) and vow of peace (inflicting ability damage from the poison). He thought I was bluffing, I wasn't. CDG on myself, me = dead, vows = broken, and the empire's excessive investments into an intelligence network and specialized crack teams were now utterly worthless. Even if I did survive I would've been completely useless to them anyway.Annoyingly the party was able to bring her back to life after the sundering ended and I was now just a cleric missing a bunch of feats.
>>98584469Yes, because he was being chased by a legion of golems that looked like Gabe Newell who were going to fuck his assIt was a very dumb game
That describes every other character I play.
>>98584469(not mine, obviously)
>>98584469You and your abortive mage game, Edna
>>98584469I was playing an old necromancer in an evil game where the premise was a devil holds our souls hostage, and thus we cannot die until they will it. Every time we "die", we instead pop back into the devil's throne room by a bonfire, dark souls style. I perturbed my party when I described my character slitting his own throat and dying after a dungeon, as it was simply the most efficient way to report back to our dark mistress, given how deep underground we were. Our resident cannibal priestess then made a necklace out of my own carcass to commemorate the occasion. Work smarter, not harder!
>>98584469I don't think I ever did.Though volunteering it become undead might technically count, dying is part of the process.
>>98584469You are a larper unless you had your character kill themselves in a LARP.
>>98584469you want some story? there is no story, nowadays faggot players make starting point of campaign full of dead characters until they settle on one rolled good enough
>>98587527>nowadays [think that doesn't happen]People don't like rolling characters anymore, retard-kun.
>>98584469Played a half-orc who crossed an entire continent to die in a particular epic battle that was prophesied in honor of Erythnul.Succeeded after going 9-1.Guess that counts.
>>98584469The closest I came was trying to call in a danger close tactical nuclear strike on myself. The party vetoed the idea. I did math out the escape plan.
Not my PC but I was playing a Wrath and Glory one shot and one of the other PCs had their Ork character kill themselves because of how bad they did in the first combat. It was pretty funny tbf.
>>98584469Kind of. Made a meme character for what was supposed to be a short campaign named Yorel Sniknej. Paladin who wasn't in great standing with his deity because he was agreed to give up his soul to a demon lord in exchange for relatively op powers in order to get out of a bad situation. Basically nameless demon lord gives powers as a taste while Yorel is wildly outnumbered, Yorel opens up legendary can of whoop ass and escapes. Demon lord says alright, tell me your real name (tm) and you get the powers permanently. Yorel (made up name) says get fucked and dips. Demon lord takes back powers and is now mad, deity isn't too happy either (wont really answer prayers type shit). Shit backstory but supposed to be like a three month campaign and I never play paladin so thought it would be fun.Year and change later, mostly level 6 party got itself into trouble taking on a contract we were wildly under prepared for. End up deep underground in what suspiciously looks like Moria. Beat feet for the exit out the back of the dungeon, avoiding combat as much as we can because the absolute swarms of goblins and ogres (instead of cave trolls) were more than we could handle. Party is beat all to shit, out of spell slots/potions/goddamn arrows. 1/2
>>98589803DM says the druid smells fresh air as we come into a long hall, indicating that we're about out. Before we can get to the end, goddamn Wall of Fire bursts up, blocking the exit. Everyone down to borderline single digit health at this point. We turn and totally not a balrog is walking towards us with like 30 ogres and goblins following. Relatively new dm so think a cool idea didn't get thought through too much in regards to party level.Druid tries to go through the wall for whatever reason and immediately goes down. Gets dragged out by cleric but it's not good. Think the dm suddenly realized that we were seriously outmatched because he looked uncertain. Dont think he meant to make it a tpk but it was going to be.So, I told the dm that Yorel fired off a quick prayer. Dm says Mitra doesnt answer but I said it wasn't to him. I fired off a prayer to the nameless demon lord I cheated. Have a short telepathic conversation where I offer my name in exchange for hella op powers again. Demon lord agrees but I have to cough up the real name first. If im lying he'll kill me and the party and drag us all into the 9 circles. 1/?
>>98589808Yorel agrees and tells the party "i got this. When the wall drops, grab the druid and run". Normal heroic protestations happen but it's getting relatively late so not drawn out.Yorel Sniknej stripped off his helmet, long blonde hair flowing over his armor. He threw away his mace and shield, instead pulling out the greatsword I had picked up a while back in case I got to finally do the meme. Turning to the approaching not a balrog and company, Yorel looked downward and bellowed "DEMON! LONG HAVE YOU SOUGHT MY NAME. GRANT ME THIS BOON OF POWER AND YE SHALL HAVE IT"Dm described the first whispers of power starting to hit me, like a taste, as an indication of agreement but still waiting for my half."HERE MY NAME NOW DEMON AND GIVE ME STRENGTH TO KILL MY FOE"Looking at the party I said "everyone know the plan? Alright boys, let's do this"Turning and running to the enemy, Yorel Sniknej raised his sword and yelled"LEEEROYYYY JENKINNNSSS"Bro at table who figured it out months ago starts laughing, everyone else is wtf. I explain that Yorel Sniknej is Leroy Jenkins spelled backwards and I didnt think the campaign was gonna be this long or serious. Everyone gets a kick out of it.In game, Leroy goes super saiyan and beats ass, making the not balrog lose concentration and drop the wall of fire. Rest of party escapes but Leroy goes down under the tide of goblins and ogres flooding into the room.Next session have a pretty normal wizard character ready and join the party. There was talk of a quest to try to save Leroy but life got in the way and the campaign fizzled out shortly thereafter.
>>98584469The DM didn't like that I was playing a wizard, but was too passive aggressive to just tell me "no", so instead had all my spells fizzle or catastrophically backfire until I said "fuck it" and cast a Teleport spell directly into the sun. I rolled up a fighter next and proceeded to steamroll every encounter after that. I quit after the DM got angry I was helping the druid player remember his spells.
>>98589880Thats a pretty goddamn funny way to go
>>98584469> Changeling the Lost> Party makes a pledge to proactively defend each other if need is felt.> Campaign is crazy good, I end up spiralling down because I am employed by my own fetch, he's gone bad, and feeding my life back little by little.> Clarity heavily impaired.> Character is very strong combatant.> Friend is not.> Close to someone getting closer to the truth.> Is a danger.> I want to eliminate to proactively protects. We're talking "kidnap and bury alive in the edge". Yes I was that far gone.> He comes and challenges.> Only way to fulfill pledge is to break it.> Makes sense because low clarity and mental illnesses.> Breaking pledge gives me so much penalties the combat becomes kinda fair.> I lose (nobody cries, combat was awesome).> Friend leaves with his protégée.> Bleeding out interrupted.> Finished off by King of Autumn because I had killed his wife prior.Might give details if asked for.
>>98584469Not played but GMd. It was a solo thing with my brother (couldn't handle multiplayer given the premise). Basically he woke up decanted from a test tube and wandered some ruined lab until being dismembered by a hulking mutant. Then he woke up again. Armed with nothing resurrective immortality (albeit with a timer as "top-shelf" clones were cycled through leaving only more mutated rejects over time) he:>Poisoned the hulk by investing poison and getting eaten.>Jammed spinning vent fan-blades shut with his own corpses.>Crossed a desert by marching to death loaded up with water, making a depot of his dying spot and "xeno's arrow-ing" his way across.Twist was that out in the desert he met a tribe of noble savages guarding the "accursed temple" and horde led by an pre-apocalyptic scientist techno-lich. The PC was a flawed mind upload of the lich installed into the clone lab by means of backdoors to serve as an inside man.Worldbuilt all this on the fly to account for my brother acting like a psycho (he killed and ate some guardians on first meeting them, they got over it) but the end result was the template-self lich offering a "we can rule together". My bro (rightly) reasoned that someone like himself would never share power and so killed "himself" out of spite.>>98585952Splendidly macabre.>>98585820Wrote up a Heist character who was a suicide with intense risk-aversion (the afterlife was a rug-pull and they want to be ABSOLUTELY sure that next time they die it's for real, despite oblivion by definition being unprovable). Game fell apart before he could see the light of play unfortunately.
>>98589880Was your dm helpful_comrade?
>>98584469Had a player adjusting to osr play who had never played anything with character death in it before. After a few sessions they encountered strawberries with little skulls instead of seeds on the outside. They ate it to see what would happen. He failed save vs death and died. >huh okay that's what that looks like. Was a fine player, just wanted to find out.
I've had two commit Sepukku in L5R. The first was a Crane who was serving a corrupt lord. He finally had had enough and couldn't get the daimyo above his lord to take action so he split his belly in front of the champion after airing his grievances. That extreme measure finally got the attention on the guy that was needed to oust him and put someone in place that was actually decent. The second was a Crab, the Imperial court was attacked by a huge army of undead and we were overwhelmed. I was heavily injured early in the battle and was put in reserves defending the women and children. When the walls were breached, my duty was to take the heads of my charges and then myself to deny the forces of the shadowlands our bodies. I was partnered up with an equally injured Matsu. We beheaded the women and children and we simultaneously took each other's heads. The rest of the PCs were in a desperate rearguard covering the Emperor's escape and only one survived. It was an absolute bloodbath.
>>98589864Fuck yeah Went out like a rockstar. Hopefully the demon doesn't give him too hard a time in his new career as spirit thrall to some infernal throne.
