Are you guys jazzed up for D&D WoW?
>>98587605Go back.
>>98587605No
>>98587753>>98587848Bitter betty alert
>>98587605I am actually. I thought this was going to be a shitty cash-grab, and it is, but it comes with all of WoW's classes and subclasses, which is huge. The biggest gripe I have with 5e is that everything after Core is so hyper-specific to some Forgotten Realms gobbly-gook, it's too difficult to actually roleplay your subclass correctly. You try and make a character through basic 5.5 options, and end up with the half-breed dimensional train rider who's soul is locked in the Weave and are thr hidden paragon of Elistrae or some shit. WoW's lore is much more generic, and easier to slot into your own campaign. I'd much rather play a Holy Priest of the Light, than a Trickery Domain Cleric of the Purple Dragon Knights.
>>98587753>Go back.Yeah, to 4th edition!
>>98587605I'm not sure what it even is. Is it just new classes and species based on Wow?
>>98587605I'm not but a lot my regular D&D guys are so it looks like I'll be playing it when it comes out
>>98587605>its always Arthas or IllidanFuck off. Explore something new
>>98588765Classes, species, items, dungeans, an ice crown citadel adventure module, a setting guide, professions and probably a dozen other things. It seems they are packing quite a lot into these things
>>98587605I haven't been "jazzed" up for D&D since 4E came out
I'll probably use it as a reference for my tables, but I doubt it will be very good given it's based on 5e.
>>98587605We had that back in the 3.5 era
>>98588783The current heads can't write anything as good
>>98587605I remember the d20 edition. No.
>wow expansion>look inside>spell slots
>>98587605It is nothing but a mockery of the original Warcraft RPG which nuBlizz had the audacity to decanonize while at the same time gutting for content.
I would have fun with it regardless of system... but I'm a Warcraft superfan
>>98587605Both franchises are undead husks so no.
>>98587605I can't wait to read this, think it's pretty cool, then never play it even once, like all my TTRPG books.
>>98588783WoW literally can't move past them because the people currently in charge of Warcraft are garbage that can't make anything interesting.
>>98591599That being said I can foresee this being very undercooked
>>98590339Interestingly very similar to what happened to Star Wars EU. Declare it noncanon, then just pillage content from it arbitrarily. That said the warcraft/WoW RPG (campaign setting) should have been more distinct mechanically from DnD. It was treated like a kitchen sink that can receive stuff from other settings and vica versa. They said as much in one of the splats when addressing the question of why not mana instead of spell slots.
Will this have Jailer in it?
>>98587605not reallywarcraft rpg was interesting, but as soon as wow hit and they made the wow rpg it started getting worse. The idea of a modern wow dnd is just tragic to think about.
>>98588783i havent played since tbc but it seems like everything after the 2nd expansion is just women arguing with each other or something
>>98587605If you're excited for WotC products in 2026, I would advice you to seek psychiatric help.
>>98588406>I thought this was going to be a shitty cash-grab, and it is, but it comes with all of WoW's classes and subclasses, which is huge. Reminder that "Shaman" is actually a Barbarian reskin.
>>98591961I am actually in a WoW-based campaign right now, and the only class that comes close to mimicing Shaman is actually cleric, specifically Storm Cleric using the 2014 rules. Because if I went with 2024, the only class that is apparently able to use lightning based spells is Wizard. Hence my excitement for this splatbook, 5e's classes are just FUBAR for anything that isn't Baldur's Gate.
>>98587605Yes, but because it's an admission of desperation from two companies I dislike, not because I'm a WoWfag or a D&Drone. It'll also make for good low effort trolling.
>>98587605No. I tried wow a long time ago but never got into it.I did get into the wc3 but that’s it.I sometimes regret getting into dnd 5e as my first ttrpg. But that was what my friends years ago were into and I followed suit.
>>985920825e's not a bad start as long as you branch out into things that aren't 5e based. The big problem with "leaving" 5e is just that people want to bring their' 5e habits with them.
what i find odd when reading about peoples ideas on campaigns set in Azeroth is that usually it always revolves around recreating the storyline of some particular quest chain (like Onyxia or the Defias) or the main campaign of some expanion (like Wrath). But pretty much never its something entirely original like "i wanna do a campaign about some ancient highborne city in desolace where the mages meddled with ill-understood black empire relics, and nowadays its divided between the shadow council, the centraurs, the Venture Co., the twilight hammer and agents of Horde and Alliance". or something like thatHow comes?
>>98592208Most of what WoW has going for it as a setting is nostalgia.
>>98592154The funnier part is that anecdotally people who stick to 5e don’t even play 5e as intended, they usually play some homebrewed variant to make it easier on them or they outright don’t retain information on how the game is played and substitute their own workaround mechanics and misunderstandings into that. They’re not bringing bad 5e habits with them, they’re bringing bad habits with them in general and blame any deviations on not playing a version of 5e that wasn’t officially suppliers to begin with.
>>98592488Yeah, but that ship sailed on day one and then sank entirely when they let Jeremy Crawford start issuing "official" rulings. It'd be unironically great if there was a huge 5e RAW community out there, but there's not, so we deal with the 5e community we actually have.
>>98592500As an outsider, i say you guys shouldn’t settle for so little, but it sounds like you’re outnumbered ten thousand to one on that.
>>98592517Oh, I left years ago. It doesn't matter how good the base engine is if the company isn't going to publish materials that actually support it and the fan base isn't going to actually play it.These days I'm mostly playing Chainmail+3LBB, but my setting is inspired by a setting that was inspired by WoW so the product has my attention even if my hopes aren't up.
My main question is this, and this will be the sole determinant of whether WoW D&D 5.5 is good or bad:Are there niggers in the artwork? That’s it. That’s the only question worth investigating on this matter. Here’s how it plays out:>Has niggers: shit’s gonna suck>Doesn’t have niggers: shit’s gonna be good to great
>>98592701>Are there niggers in the artwork?you should ask them that in person at blizzcon
