Why do we get fake fantasy gay BS like elfs, dwarnes, hobbits, but we never get actual real human species like cro magnon, autralopitecus, homo erectus, neandertals, denisovan, heidelbergensis?
>>
>>98588178
Because those niggers are even worse than fictional: They're extinct.
>>
>>98588178
In what kind of a game and setting would you use those species, and how would using them improve the game? You couldn't use species that have mostly existed in different time periods in a historical setting, obviously, not with all of them being present simultaneously, and while you could use them in a fantasy setting, I don't quite see why you would. I can understand and enjoy both human-only settings and ones with a bunch of different species, but I don't really see the point of having, say both Homo Erectus and Homo Sapiens as playable options.
>>
>>98588207
why can we design fantasy worlds in the 40k century with aliens but not a modern setting or medieval anime setting set in 150kBC.

On a real argument it would be a fresh breath of air over copy pasting tolkien shit for the #999999 time.
>>
>>98588215
>why can we design fantasy worlds in the 40k century with aliens but not a modern setting or medieval anime setting set in 150kBC.
Future is open, past is set. Obviously you can write a fantasy setting that ostensibly takes place in 150000BC, and it could even be cool, but that doesn't really answer my question about what the benefits of having Homo erectus and Homo sapiens exist side by side are supposed to be. Okay, so it'd be a breath of fresh air, but if that's all the idea has going for it, it'll be a gimmick whose appeal will wear out soon. What would you actually do with that setting? Do you have some ideas about interactions of these different human species in mind, ideas about how to make erectus an interesting choice for players, and so on?
>>
>>98588250
Fantasy can be anything.
We can make fantasy of humans traveling to dinosaur eras and finding dinosaur civilizations.

>Gimmick
Even if it's a gimmick, moving away from le JRPG Tolkien cliches is good.
That's a good enough reason.
>>
For me, it's monkey
>>
>>98588250
Do you realize we have pre biblical flood sunken underwater cities we can't explain how they were made by using the acepted view that they had stone age tools?
>>
>>98588178
Because they do nothing elves, dwarves, and hobbits don't do better.
>>
>>98588178
Because human male figther dogshit is boring. NEXT.
>>
>>98588178
Because you don't put them in your games, you dipshit.
>>
>>98588491
Like what?
>>

>>98588665
Shit like nan madol and other sunken cities in japan, cuba, india.

There's also broken ruins in peru of blocks that are 100 tons.
Also pyramids in indonesia that are on layers of ground that are 20k years old.

Or the sphynx in egypt looking at a position in the stars that happened 15k years ago.

We also have a suden transition of the baltic sea from being a lake into being salt water.

Also, medieval maps of sunked lands in piris res map.
And tales of atlantis, lemuria and mu.
>>
>>98588695
All fake I'm afraid, you've been duped
>>
I like adding cannibalistic cave men into my games instead of orcs. Something about primitive almost human ape men feasting on the charred remains of civilized people is just pure kino to me. Bonus points for if the people the apemen prey upon are a warrior culture scared shitless of them.
>>
>>98588491
>>98588695
>we may have to adjust the history of human civilizations
>omg flying pyramids! Giants! Talking Dinosaurs! Its all real!
Quacks.
>>
>>98588178
Because it's too real. No one wants to talk about the fact that in Europe Homo sapiens bread with neanderthals but in East Asia they bred with denisovians. If you start talking about eugenics there are a whole lot of people you're going to piss off.
>>
>>98588695
Atlantis is extra hilarious because that was explicitly fictional when it first started.
>>
>>98588178
I think, I'm working with this guy in the middle.
>>
>>98588192
Medieval knights are also extinct but here we are
>>
>>98588178
>dwarnes
dwarnes?

>>98588921
as was lemuria
>>
>>98589039
Lemuria wasn't fictional, it was hypothetical.
Specifically, it was a hypothesis on how Lemurs could have evidence of habitation in both Madagascar and India but not the rest of Africa, The near East, Persia, etc.
Essentially, it was just a hypothesis to try and explain the effects of plate tectonics before plate tectonics was conceptualized.
>>
>>98588178
Nah, fuck that. I wish we could make fantasy games/ttrpgs purely based on the bible

Diablo, Darksiders, and the World of Darkness are cool and all, but a game centered around the biblical age with biblically accurate angels and demons would be better.
>>
>>98588277
So, you don't have any ideas and are just a contrarian. What a waste of a thread.
>>
>>98589151
there's not a real argument as to why fantasy can't put humanoid races conviving at the same time in a pre histlorical period with medieval agrarian towns between the homo especies, set during 150k BC.

You could even make modern humans developing time travel and giving them medieval farming technology, meanwhile they're the original gods of myths.

This might be of interest: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLBivhvbz2lxT3TFrKgqd2_pRHG-uDXwbm
>>
>>98588491
What can't we explain? We know that pretty impressive shit can be built with stone tools because Mesoamerican and South American pre-Columbian civilizations did so. Anyways, what does that have to do with Homo erectus as a playable race?

>>98588695
Part of that's bullshit, but all of that his firmly on the timeline of anatomically modern humans.

>>98589136
>I wish we could make fantasy games/ttrpgs purely based on the bible
You can do that if you want to.
>>
>>98589161
Anon, the question is "why should you do it", not "can you do it". Nobody is telling you to not make your 150K BC setting including Homo erectus who've somehow survived so long, people are just asking what, exactly do you want out of that setting.

>>98589179
my argument is that we have a pausible fantasy setting to be created where modern or sci fi humans travel back in time to seed basic tech like medieval isekai tech to early human species.

It would be a more interesting settting to me than another tolkien rippoff.
>>
>>98589190
something more original than copy pasting tolkien shit.
>>
>>98589191
Okay. Then how about answering the questions like
>What would you actually do with that setting?
or
>Do you have some ideas about interactions of these different human species in mind
>ideas about how to make erectus an interesting choice for players, and so on?
>>
>>98588178
Because that doesn't let troons, queers and wannabe socialists indulge their misanthropy and body dismorphia.
>>
>>98589202
you can do shit like develop a lore of fantasy world where denisovans, neandertal, homo sapiens convive and do shit like wars and trade routes and fuck each other in the ass.
>>
>>98589208
Okay. What makes that distinct from different sapiens cultures from doing that, or from different fantasy races from doing that?
>>
>>98589215
>How is something original diferent from something that is the ripoff of the human centipede of ideas of the fantasy genre
>>
>>98589230
>its not tolkien
Okay? A setting about different hardnesses of shit isnt tolkien, is poo wars inherently a good idea to develop? And are YOU going to develop it, since you seem to expect one of us to make your caveman idea for you?
>>
>>98588887
oh look it's already trying to discredit new discoveries with outlandish claims. you academic niggers are so goddamn mad at gobekli tepe
>>
>>98589230
Brother, just replacing different cultures with different human species, or replacing fantasy races with them, isn't original. It might give the superficial appearance of originality, but that's the same kind of "originality" as replacing elves with giant sentient mantises and dwarves with ratmen without changing anything else about them would represent. Do you have some actual idea in mind here? This is getting pretty fucking frustrating, because no one's telling you to not go with your idea, people are asking you to explain what you actually want to do with that idea, and you're just straight up refusing to elaborate. A generic fantasy setting with races reskinned is still a generic fantasy setting, an if you have an idea that isn't just that, why not tell about it?

Tolkien setting is boring because is only european shit.
>>
>>98589274
Why the fuck would "academic niggers", who have written a bunch of papers about Gobekli Tepe, figured out everything we know about Gopekli Tepe and no doubt made more than one career out of Gopekli Tepe, be mad about Gopekli Tepe? Academic people thrive of coming up with some new idea or new take they can publish, it just needs to be at least vaguely believable.
>>
>>98589286
Are you going to answer at least some of the questions asked about you at some point?
>>
>>98589302
I had the idea where the MC is the reincarnation of the god of chaos, so he's like a trickster character, who wants to do tricks and cause trouble to others.

Basically he's also the sun god, so he's naturally more powerful than the other gods.

But my plot twist is that the rest of the pantheom are girls, which happens to be shapeshifters and can change their age from lolis to milfs.

So basically the story is this MC which is khaos, causing troubles and devicing tricks to the rest of girls.

But these girls are basically his daughters of previous reincarnations, and they have to make him "spend" his sun energy into them.

So they basically also feed from his energy, which causes him to be lethargic and sleepy.

So the entire chapter is basically he recovers his energy, which causes the day to being, he starts doing silly things in his celestial town, which causes the girls, which symbolizes nature forces and plants to feed on his energy, until he loses strenght and night begins.
>>
>>98589305
>MC
>chapter
Okay, so you want to write a story. That's cool, not necessarily the right board to talk about it, but it's cool. How do neanderthals, denisovans, erectus and Cro-Magnon tie into this?
>>
>>98588695

I want /x/ to leave.

Sundaland was also real
And Beringia
>>
>>98588178
"get"? what does that mean? are you playing a gacha game?
>>
>>98588277
well, there are already many, many games that have nothing to do with tolkien. so you'll need something else.
>>
>>98589230
yeah. well?
>>
>>98589274
>you academic niggers are so goddamn mad at gobekli tepe
What about Gobekli Tepe cannot be explained with stone age tools?
>>
>>98588178
>>98588277
I mean yeah, that's basically it. Fantasy can be anything, so even if you wanted to make "100k BC" set on the lost continent of Mu with cavemen, dinosaurs, atlanteans, and all that, there wouldn't really be a reason to strictly limit yourself to scientifically documented human species.

Because instead of having neanderthals, you can just make a species of ape-men who are talking gorillas. Or add in lizard people or skinwalkers. Basically if you're already abandoning historical realism, you might as well go further with the fantasy elements.
>>
>>98588178
Elfs, dwarnes, hobbits: magical powers, cool civilizations
Your guys: a bunch of homos

Conan kind of does that shit, doesn't it? Or maybe it was Kull that had that and the fucking Conan the Adventurer cartoon has me mixed up.

Ka naama kaa lajerama
>>
>>98589196
So how's that going to work out for you, exactly? What's going to make cro-mags different from orcs?
>>
>>98589136
>I wish we could make
bugman
>purely based on the bible
So fantasies about mutilating genitals, subjugating the subhuman gentiles and fighting against God but veiled in merkavah mysticism.
It's essentially the Typhonomachy, as if written by schizophrenic foreigners siding with Typhon.
Thank me later.

All of the characters in Evil Hat's art looks like ape men.

Doggerland is an awful name. Who named it?
>>
same as always, tolkien glazing and lack of interest in actually having cultural diversity, instead opting for each race having a single culture with minor variations

>>
>>98588178
Okay but what do you actually WANT to do with your setting? What's the premise? What's the selling point? Do you have anything that would make setting more interesting, something that could draw fantasy crowd to your

Do you have anything to define your setting by what it IS rather than by what it is NOT?
>>
>>98588178
Because more than 99% of all interesting things to be said about upright apes you can say about H. Sapiens. We are culture, we are technology, we are history.

>>98591361
It was named "Doggerland" because it had completely gone to the dogs, so the God of the Sea (Dogwesh) drowned it to formally make it a part of His domain. To this day His followers celebrate their lord's decision by "dog washing" in select temples across 1st world countries. This is all true I read it online.
>>
>>98591394
Who's glazing Tolkien, here? When people ask you to explain what you want to do this proposed setting, it's not a hidden barb, it's an honest, straightforward question. Being different from Tolkien is not in itself enough to make a setting interesting, and there are plenty of non-Tolkienesque settings already, anyways. If you can't answer the extremely basic question of what the primary draw of this setting would be, you don't have a very clear idea of what you're even suggesting and why.

>cultural diversity
One of the points made ITT is that you can just have different human (sapiens) cultures interacting with each other, and one of the questions that have been asked and gone unanswered was just what would different human species add to this.
>>
>>98588178
>Alright guys, here's my newest game. You can play as humans, more retarded humans, more retarded humans, more retarded humans, even more retarded humans, and technically not a monkey.

Avoiding cliches for the sake of avoiding cliches is actually really bad anon. Tropes and cliches are often used for a reason and being different for the sake of being different shows you don't actually put thought into why these things are cliches in the first place.
