The sad reality is what actually ends up happening is that when the women find success early in their career, they stop trying to get better because they think they have made it. The amount of work they would have to put in to compete with the men just isn't worth it when they are already making a living in the women's division. Sad. What was designed to get women interested in chess, actually ends up preventing them from ever competing at the highest level. Judith Polgar proved to the world that women can play at the highest level. She made it up to #7 in the world and scored wins against some of the best. The key was that early in her career she played against the men.
