>Be me
>Forever GM, but frankly I don't mind, being GM is better anyway.
>I don't homebrew my systems, but I homebrew my campaign settings.
>Refuse to GM for 5E because this table runs systems that are actually worth a damn, mister.
>Used to GM for my Highschool pals, all the way through college.
>We eventually go our separate ways.
>I struggle to find players, I used to be able to get six players easy, now I can consider myself lucky to keep three while struggling like hell.
>I run games in cons and always manage to rank among the third best GMs of the con.
>Struggle to find players anyway, despite my good reputation, and NO, I'm not an asshole GM nor a power GM (nor a weirdly sexual GM, what the fuck is wrong with you?), quite frankly unless they go full retard I go easy on the players, my PC kill count is pretty low.
>For the first time in my life, a year goes by without me GM-ing a campaign, because all the new players keep going to the local D&D 5E campaign, which is ABSOLUTE FUCKING GARBAGE, I know since I tried it as a player, and one of my friends who has played it with me can vouch for what I say, but it seems that people nowadays would be willing to drink condensed diareha as long as it has the brand 5E printed on it.

Part (2/3)

>I run ads every week on every socials of my city, but people don't care for my campaigns because it ain't fantasy and it ain't 5E.
>Have to refrain myself from insulting that one player who signed into my game, before getting cold feet at the last minute because "I play 5E and nothing else".
>I FUCKING STRUGGLE and FINALLY manage to get five players for my new wild west campaigns.
>Rythm of play is one three hour session every two week, which is more than reasonable.
>I set up the date for the character creation session.
>The day before, one player tell us on discord that he has to quit before even starting the campaign because of "personnal matters".
>Another one cancels because somehow, he didn't think before how he would fit the fucking sessions in his monthly routine.
>Another one quits because he thinks that three players isn't enough.
>And so another other one quits because a two player campaign isn't worth it (can't really blame him).
>Meanwhile the local garbage 5E campaign always manages to have six players, but it as a 100% turnover rate because people aren't stupid enough to keep playing this shit forever, thank god.
>I put MONTHS of work in a campaign, carefully negociating with every single players, all for it to crumble before it even began.
>pic is my feel when.

Part (3/3)

I used to love RPGs, it was my number one hobby, but frankly I genuinly don't think this shit is worth my time anymore. Running a game in the Tik Tok era has become impossible because people don't want to commit to hobbies that actually require efforts, they join games because they watched Vox Machina but then they give up when they feel like filling a character sheet is too much work. People these days seem to be more in love with "the idea of playing RPGs" than actually doing the effort of playing RPGs.

I used to love GM-ing, but frankly I am so fucking done, this used to be my creative outlet but know I think than I'd rather try my hand at writing a novel than to put up with this bullshit.

I still hope somehow to eventually get a new campaign running, but this hope is fading, I grow tired of it.

No, you got what you deserved for being a subhuman faggot. If you think 5e is the worst thing on the market, you've got no experience with TTRPGs as a whole. I have run far worse than 5e before, I've read worse than 5e, just because nobody wants to play your hipster trash doesn't mean shit.

You're probably also one of those faggots who goes "W-WELL ONLINE GAMES AREN'T REAL GAMES" and to that I say, enjoy being a nogames faggot while I have multiple games a week I run or play in, you big dumb crybaby.
>>

No, those are the feelings of a loser contrarian who cares so much about hating a system that he's allowed himself to poison his enjoyment of the hobby.

You need to be over 18 to post here kid. Go back to discord. Edition wars have been a long tradition, as well as just fucking hating the games made for the people invading our hobby. CoC, WoD, Exalted, Traveller, RIFTS. MERP, & many many others used to be able to find a table. Hell, I used to play RIFTS in a group of 11+ people.

>If you think 5e is the worst thing on the market, you've got no experience with TTRPGs as a whole. I have run far worse than 5e before

5E is a mediocre game for mediocre players and mediocre GMs and only an asshole who hasn't bothered to read anything else would claim otherwise.

>Just because nobody wants to play your hipster trash doesn't mean shit.

Fuck you Corpo dicksucker, you don't get to judge me because because I want to run something else than your generic fantasy trash. Also I just said that I don't homebrew my systems, but I guess it would get in the way of the cherrypciking for your strawman.

>You're probably also one of those faggots who goes "W-WELL ONLINE GAMES AREN'T REAL GAMES"

Well not for that particular reason, I just don't like to deal with online assholes like you as a GM.

>and to that I say, enjoy being a nogames faggot while I have multiple games a week I run or play in, you big dumb crybaby.

Better nogame than having you as a player or a GM, you sound like the kind of bitch that would get his ass kicked at my table.

>>
>>98590792
NTA, but; I haven't played 5e in years, most of my games are WoD (best roll system fight me), and am trying to put together a homebrew RT game for 40k Hornblower fun.

5e, while lacking many things, is a perfectly fine game for silly, light-hearted fantasy. Arguably, it's one of the best games out there for it, though 3.5e gives it a run for its money in some cases.

Also your story is fake, and you are gay. Nothing in the first three posts actually happened, and it'd be more convincing if you actually played games.

Grow the fuck up.
Hating the losers who engage in edition wars is an even bigger tradition here, along with hating the faggots who insist they're gatekeeping when they're the ones everyone would prefer would be gatekept out.

The fuck are you even doing. You don't have any power or authority to gatekeep, all you do is act like a retarded asshole and then think you're doing people a favor by making the place worse for everyone, not just your imaginary invented invaders.

>cry that you can't find players
I'm no expert but you need to compromise and meet people where they are. Play fantasy one shots to find players, then invite them to your more exotic game afterwards.
Or don't and just sulk alone.
>>
>>98590879
Suck my dick cupcake
>>
>>98590734
Man, do I get it. I have 3 solutions for you.

> Gamefinder General
Over the years, I've joined 3 campaigns, all of them turned reasonably well. No D&D either, I am in an autistic level of crunch playtest for a new TTRPG right now (very amateur yet well-made), but I've seen Wushu at the other extreme.

> Bite the bullet, and filter.
Join 5E games. Let the turnover happen. Hint at what COULD be. Recruit from there.

> Other creative outlets.
> Pic related.
>>
>>98590734
thats rough man. i do think you overinvested in a niche genre though, westerns just arent that popular
>>
>>98590734
>>98590883
This. You can't expect to successfully pitch exotic cuisine to random people eating McDonalds, nor can you expect to successfully pitch a system 20 people on the planet play to random people who came to play 5e. Pitch a (few) one-shot(s), build personal credibility with a roster of people, then dump your actual preferred system on them.

Being so unwilling to compromise on this is why you're having a problem in the first place; expecting the majority (the hypothetical group of strangers you would be running for) to immediately capitulate to your system preferences instead of voting with their feet is simply folly.
>>
>>98591021
You're so weirdly psychotic.
You have no empathy. No understanding of why people play games and why people enjoy 5e. You treat people like you think you can trick them by looking down on them while preparing them to be groomed.
You treat credibility like a currency you can later spend to deceive people.

You are also trying to treat OP like he's a real person.

In general, you're a fuckhead and it's a great disappointment that there's people like you exist, just people without any shred of decency.

>>
>>98591109
Oof, what a misstep.
The right reaction to being called psychotic is not to remove any doubt by making it clear you think you're much too smart for anyone to see right through you even when it's clear you're half-retarded.
>>
>>98591145
First you'd have to have called me psychotic.

If you want to run things besides 5e, you're pretty much confined to seeking out oldbeards (gen X or elder millennials at the very youngest), or searching for players only for online games (which is what worked for me). Otherwise expect to wait a long time posting ads and hanging out at an LGS that exists for reasons besides fleecing the Pokemon/MTG skells.

It still takes time and is tedious. You have an easier time getting a game of Battletech going these days than a game of Traveler or d6 Star Wars.
>>
>>98590734
Use 5e to network, run games for as many people as possible, find the most reliable and the most willing to try new things and go from there.
>>
>>98591081
>You have no empathy

>>
>>98590734
>>98590738
>>98590741
My advice?
Switch genres.
Pitch a sci-fi campaign and use Traveller or something similar.
This auto-filters peoples presumptions that you're going to be using 5E and the presuppositions of Traveller are distant enough from 5E's 'Heckin' Epic Quirk Chungus' shit that you can establish a unique setting for them.

Also, accept that 99% of people are vapid cocksuckers. Carefully collect the ones that aren't.
>>
>>98591872
This.
I always pitch this as a strategy for anons wanting a good group.
Sometimes you gotta fish to get some fish.
>>
>>98591872
>eat a bunch of shit hoping for some corn
At that point, I'd prefer to just play video games or even talk to ChatGPT.
>>
>>98592014
See >>98591976
Outright pitch it as 'Tired of D&D? Want to try something new and fresh? I've got the shit you need right here buddy'
That'll draw people who are proactively interested in RPGs rather than Soulless & Sloppy-seconds 5e
>>
>>98590734
>because all the new players keep going to the local D&D 5E campaign
This is the thing that shills and retards don't mention when they say you can just keep playing old versions. You will just run out of people to play with because most of them just don't know better.
>>
>>98590734
>Used to GM for my Highschool pals, all the way through college.
>We eventually go our separate ways.
And you never made any other friends? Well, that--

So you DO have friends who play TTRPGs, but they aren't interested in playing in your games? Curious.

>>

>>
>>98592596
No one said you have to love it.

Hell, you can even troll about it if you want, you just need to do it in a way that's actually clever or amusing and not just you being a bitter contrarian that only knows how to troll in a way that makes it clear you're a bitter nogames who tries to blame 5e (and everyone else) for you being a friendless loser everyone despises.

Bitching about corporations or popular games isn't a personality.
>>
>>98590741
Now the worst part is that you'll keep coming back to /tg/ to be an increasingly cantankerous shitweasel complaining about everything, having no games and otherwise fucking up the only think you have left.

>Bitching about corporations or popular games isn't a personality.
Funny, because neither is sucking them all the way to the hilt but you seem to be getting by. People have been bothered that they can't find others interested in their niche system since before you were in danger of being blasted into a sock.
Funny how any other aspect of the hobby, 40k, card games, ect, ect, can have its 'This thing is popular but also shit', but soon as it comes to RPGs?
You pop up like Bobbo the Retard, blowing steam and WotC semen out your asshole in equal parts, ready to die on the hill of 'Popular thing best thing' because someone dared to say:
>I wish I could find people willing to play other things
Here's a little advice from someone who isn't either too young to vote or being paid off; the only reason people simmered down on the 'I wish I could find someone to play something other than D&D' before 5e wasn't because everyone who says it about 5e is a contrarian.
It's because 4e was such unmitigated dogshit that everyone was going 'I wish I could find someone to play something other than Pathfinder'

But hey, I hope the nickel they pay you per post here is worth it, because your soul isn't worth a dime.
>>
>>98592756
When someone tells you that you're neither clever nor amusing, that doesn't mean it's time to open up the cringe flood gates.

It's unsurprising you want to blame everything other than yourself, because if you actually looked at the reason you're a friendless loser, you'd kill yourself.
>>
Set your wild west campaign in Savage Worlds (either Deadlands or Sidewinder). Run a series of fantasy one shots to get players. Once hooked on the system say, ya know, this system was originally designed as a western, let's try it!
>>
>>98590738
>Rythm of play is one three hour session every two week, which is more than reasonable.
this sounds nice, for some reason people expect 5+ hour sessions and i cant think of anyone other than my wife and some family members i would want to spend that amount of time with, especially on a fucking Saturday or something.
>>
Itt: anons compete to see who can be the most disengenuous participant in a dialogue
>>
>>98590734
If you're looking for in-person games, you MUST be willing to compromise and give players the kind of game or system that they want. They are currently getting what they want with 5e and other DMs. You must either do something similar, or advertise yours in a way that makes it clear how it is distinct and more enjoyable to anyone who would be interested. I would still recommend looking for online games though, as you are 1000+xing your pool of players.
>>
>>98592978
Only one side (desperately) needs the other side to be disingenuous to make their point legit.
If people saying they don't like 5e because they think it's shit but popular are sincere then they have an opinion, one that needs to be discussed to see if it's grounded in facts or not.
Shit I'm not even saying it is, but it's something a thread can talk about rather than hammering the thought terminating cliche button.

If the people raving about how the other side are contrarian subhuman faggots who think the other side are nogaems are sincere then all it means is they need to get their meds checked.
Because there isn't shit to be talked about there except 'Why is your reaction to this so violently aggressive exactly?'
>>

>>
>>98593150
>why do fags like you always think they can retroactively change history?
It's literally one 5e fanboy who insists every other system is dogshit and no one truly likes them.
You can find him all over the place once you start looking, because he always argues and acts the exact same way.

The real solution is to avoid regular ttrpg players entirely. You need to find normies who barely have an understanding of what DnD is and no familiarity with any of the editions. It takes a little time and patience to teach them the about ttrpgs in general but they won't have the annoying habits people get from the DnD community. It worked for my Delta Green campaign and it'll work for you too.
