short term its probably good for a motivating "lets all get together and right this wrong thing" but in the end its most likely detrimental for bending their whole society around a never forgive never forget mentality.

General question,

What do you guys reccomend for VC zombies, I'm tempted by the kings of war but how do they measure up looks & size wise to other fantasy minatures? I do really like the idea of having all sorts of human, orc, beastmen etc. all mixed in together in one massive horde. Any suggestions appreciated!

mantic zombies are good, diehard miniatures has undead for various races but they're pricy metals so I'd only take a few as representative tokens
zombicide is at a slightly different scale but some of their sculpts can be fun and you can get them very cheap, they're awfully repetitive but if you cut and bash them with other bits they're a great source of bodies
for extra variety in zombies there's also fireforge's and wargame atlantic's plastic kits

I managed to play two games yesterday, one Battle March at 600 and one 1k with my friend using my old chaos army against my orcs.

The first match was 600 points Battle March.

Snagrog had spruced up his Shiny Armour just for this fight. After raiding a nearby humie village, some of the elf looking humies had come to stop him. He saw the humie boss on a dragon looking thing, but it wasn't quite big enough to be a proper one.

"Boss...what we gonna do bout that big flying lizard ting?"

The big un looked slightly pale, or as pale as an orc could get. Snagrog snorted and cuffed the Orc across the face, sending it sprawling. A good reminder to the rest who's boss.

"Dat lizard fing aint a proppa dragon. It just looks like un. Tell you lot what I am gunner do...I'm gonna krump it gud!"

With a great warcry, Snagrog ordered the advance.

-----

The Cathay general, mounted on his Longma, was easily able to pick out the leader of this roving band of Greenskins. An enormous creature, almost the size of an ogre, stood at the forefront, covered almost completely by hard, steel plates of armour and a hodge podge of chainmail.

Knowing what little he did of the greenskins, slaying this beast should be no issue. The beast let out a terrible roar and like a green tidal wave, the greenskins advanced.

Glancing behind, his gunners, lancers and regiments were ready. With but a single gesture, the army advanced to meet the greenskins.

Snagrog watched as the humie boss swooped towards them. With a piercing cry, the dragon thing swooped towards the arrer boyz who legged it. Barely missing them, the Longma struck the hard earth.

Snagrog knew this was his chance. Calling a tremendous WAAAAGH, Snagrig and his big uns slammed into the Cathayan general.

Punching aside one of the more eager big uns, Snagrog met the Humie general face to face. Before he could even lift his axe, the metal of his armour screeched as the humie's lance tore across the plate. The longma, roaring, lashed out with its terrible talons but was also met with the untarnished Meteoric Iron.

Pausing only slightly from the impact, Snagrog struck with his axe, tearing open the side of the Longma. The humie general tried to control the beast, which allowed Snagrog to strike again, catching the humie in the chest, opening a bloody gash across its chest.

In that moment, the humie looked terrified, eyes wide and mouth agape. In that moment, it fled, humie and dragon thing both, with Snagrog in hot pursuit.

"Dats it lads! Get stuck in!"

Grimtoof's boyz had charged their way into the disciplined shield wall of the Cathayan warriors resulting in a bloody melee. Their boss had tried to strike down Grimtoof, only to have his skull caved in from a quick headbutt. The boyz too were getting a good scrap, the humies armour and shields doing little to protect their soft, pink bodies. It was over in a moment, Grimtoof's boyz running them down.

Suddenly, before they could recover, a shadow appeared overhead. The Humie boss on his spindly dragon thing had landed.

Grimtoof's mind raced. Was Snagrog dead? Was it his time to be the boss?

Before he could think further, the dragon thing crashed into their ranks. Grimtoof barreled forward. He was da biggest and strongest orc left, a black orc too!

Fighting like he had never before, talons, lance and crushing claws lashing out but through grit and sheer orciness, no blow landed. Grimtoof struck out with his choppas, striking the humies mount furiously. It was his time!

------

The Cathayan general was filled with terror. He had badly underestimated the Greenskins, both he and his mount suffering wounds. Now this second, almost equally as large Orc had come to face him. Fear caused him to flail recklessly, failing to land a blow.

He heard a scream and a quick glance saw the Orc leader ripping the head off the remaining Jade Warrior's champions head, who also broke at the sight.

His army surrounded and he himself wounded, the general turned and fled. Kicking his longma's sides, the creature flew high, abandoning the rest of his army to its doom.

One more look back, he saw the Jade Lancers being pulled down by the orcs. Today the greenskins had taken the field.

The second game, my friend used my chaos army against my orcs at 1k. Korgoth and Snagrog meet at last.

This battle had two endings funnily enough. A standard pitched battle, we set up 24" away with 6 turns.

It had been a good number of weeks but Snagrog's warbabd had finally traversed the Worlds Edge Mountains, looting and foraging where possible.

Unfortunately, taking the wrong turn had brought the Orcs further up north than they had liked abd now were facing the horde of Korgoth the destroyer.

Snagrog knew spiky humies were the best of fights. Yet behind all that armour, they were still humies. They had to ask their gods for armour to keep their weak bodies safe, unlike Orcs. That, and he liked if you hit them hard enough, they'd make funny sounds, so you knew you gave them a proppa krumpin.

"Line up ladz, we got a good foight waitin fer us!"

Snufgob, the goblin wolf rider boss, had finally found the ladz a way through the mountains, leading them what he believed was a stunty fort.

After a few turns, climbs and more turns, Snufgob had slowly realised they were lost. Now, facing some spiky humies, things were going to get heated.

He and his wolf boyz had charged at the chaos bosses big horse boyz. Using his One Hit Wunda, Snufgob had crushed one Chosen Knights chestplate in and split the helm of another. He even saw one get dragged down from its saddle by one of the boyz wolves!

Yet, the wrath of the chaos boss and his big humies was terrible, butchering the goblins to a man, Snufgob among them.

Korgoth careened into the lines, facing Grimtoof himself. The melee was terrible but the Orcs had held and now, two hulking trolls crashed into Korgoth's side.

Korgoth raged, bellowing warcries and praydrs to Khorne. Lamenting the lack of worthy foes, Korgoth tore through the hordes of greenskins, every swing of his axe carving a bloody wave of gore and green. His mount too, towering over the melee, struck down two orcs in a single swing.

Suddenly his mount buckldd as two enormous trolls suddenly assailed his flank. Their gigantic weapons crashed into his armour, badly winding him. With one swing, one of the trolls exploded in a shower of gore, his axe rending it asunder. But the second puked on him, causing a frantic delay in his swing. It was here, Korgoth met his end. Another swing, the Troll was decapitated but its body, too stupid to realise it was dead, tore Korgoth from his mount, slaying the champion.

The 'elven gods' predate the elves themselves.
One day, early elves encountered a mystical power and decided to worship it, calling it 'Lileath' (however, this does not mean it originates from them or is exclusive to them).
Much much later, humans encountered the same mystical force and also chose to worship it, calling it 'The Lady of the Lake

Snagrog plunged into the Chaos humies alongside his big uns. With a great WAAAGH, the sound of splintering metal and ripped flesh was deafening. A warrior stepped forward to meet Snagrog, lunging with his runic weapon. Yet, despite its skill and deadly weapon, the blade glanced off Snagrog's bulk. Snagrog, engulfed by battle lust, swung his axe downward into the chaos humies shoulder, plunging straight through the armour into its flesh. He knew it had done damage as a very human cry of pain eminated from the helm. Tearing the axe from the Warriors now mangled body, Snagrog continued to swing, splinters of metal and lumps of flesh bursting from what was once a champion of Chaos (1 wound and 3 overkill!).

The big uns too became embroiled, the momentum of their charge seeing chaos warriors falling as choppas crushed plate into flesh or found gaps. So ferocious was this sight, even the warriors of chaos broke, but the Orcs caught them, ripping them apart!

The field was theres abd Snagrog let out a great warcry, declaring victory! Although it was just him and his big uns left, they had carried the day!

------------

Despite this, we later realised we had totally forgotten the Armour of the Damned for Korgoth (reroll hits in melee). As such, i suggested we rewind and replay the last two turns with Korgoth back to full health.

Korgoth and the last chosen ran into Snagrog's lads. Korgoth did 5 wounds to Snagrog and despite 5++ x 2 saves, Snagrog fell, AAARGH, and the chaos won.

Still an awesome fight and my friend and I want to play that matchup again.

>inb4 strong and free women feminist propaganda
I'm as anti-woke and anti-diversity as they come but the book which I'm quoting also clearly say that damsels are an exception and that most bret women have inferior and restrictive places in society; it's also the same book that explicitly say that only highborn bretonnian men are ontologically able to become grail knights

Beyond the obvious bringing back the "legacy" factions?
Ban them from updating models, and bring back all the old ones that they have "updated" since launching the game.
Release a AJ that expands the "Realms of Men" faction with lists for Araby, Estalia, and Tilea (it is just the generic Dogs of War units from the 2004 DoW army list).

Oh, and revert all of the chink lore back to pre-TW:WH lore and squat the models.

>How would >(you) do it if gw gave you carte blanche anon?
I would personally return to the era of "Bretonnia is a wildly satirized 17th century caricature" again. Bring back the musketeers, the scheming cardinals, the powdered wigs and powdered faces. Bring back the long, pompous names, the hon-hon-hon, the busty village girls with wanton smiles and long skirts. Their hunger for Estalia and Tilea constantly forces the Empire to intervene lest they find themselves with a more powerful neighbor. Make the King a true Sun King, a sharp adherent of Solkan who insists Solland was rightful snail clay.
>>
>>98602679
their description 'if the worlds of Warhammer have taught us anything, it’s that a seemingly innocuous animal might end up very weird.' doesn't seem that appropriate for Kislev since there is nothing 'weird' about those bears other than being ridden. It makes me think of that AoS 'squat world' rumour which claimed stormcast would be getting bear mounts for one faction.

Got a couple of friends into whf but only if I commited to building and painting their models. Since both chose armies I wasn't interested in and I've always prefered painting over playing I agreed. I've noticed the new models designed for TOW are a pain to build. So far I've built and painted
>jade warriors, not bad
>dragon character, a pain to build
>lantern, a pain to build
>sentinel, genuinely the worst model I've ever built
>duke on pegasus, pretty awful
>standard bearer on pegasus, same thing since it's basically the same model

My question is have you noticed the newer models being far worse to build than the older ones and even worse than similarly aged models for other systems? I gotta build and paint a whole cathay army so I want to know what I've got myself into

It is well known that the sculptor, or whoever cut up the Cathay models for the sprue, did an extremely shitty job. Apparently the new chaos stuff is better and less of an ass pain.
However, generally speaking, older models where simpler to assemble because the less dynamic poses and their lack of concern with the ergonomics of the sprue. They didn't mind a box of say 6 ogres taking up a box fucking 4" high, with wide open gaps on the sprue, because shipping was peanuts
>>
If the skeleton warrior refresh is real I’ll definitely pivot into a serious army for them. I think the novelty of getting old models again in TOW definitely has worn off at this point, or at the very least the most interesting ones people would want are stuck in MTO’s.

Not many races have such a heavy handed connection to a single wind, it would make way more sense if different groupings of gnomes focused on different winds given the plethora of concepts and themes usually associated with them, and it's obviously just a cheap handwaving to explain why they weren't mentioned for so long, but that kind of meta tie in isn't needed for retroactive additions.

Interesting changes to char gen in 5th ed. They got rid of resolve&resilience (and good riddance) and uncouppled fate&fortune. Still does the whole "roll random and get rewards, or pick custom" thing.

Start by rolling race. If you keep the result, you get +1 Fortune (still hero points/rerolls, but now you can spend them before you roll to get advantage or after to reroll, but be forced to keep the new result)

Then you roll career. If you keep it, you get 2 trappings of your choice from rank 2 of that career. or roll 2 more, and get 1 trapping from rank 2. Or pick, and only get rank 1 trappings.

Finally, stats. Roll 2d10+racial bonus for each stat, in order. If you keep the results, increase your 3 career-specific attributes by 6 points in total (so 2 each or all 6 into one, whatever). or shuffle them, and put 3 points into your career specific attributes. or do 100 pointbuy (min 4, max 16, used to be 18 in 4e).

if you go with the first rolled result for all three steps, you also get +1 fate (still single use points to not die or succeed at any test)

other than that, stat and skill increases got simplified. Instead of buying them 1 point at a time, you now get "advances" which represent a +5 boost. Costs in exp are about the same as before. Careers work like before, but changing or advancing career now ear a downtime activity. Which makes sense, I suppose. Still costs 100 exp to upgrade or change and 200 to change to a career in a different class. Classes are the same as before.

Careers now all have 10 skills at rank 1, instead of the previous 8, so you finally have some variety in how you play your career before rank 2.

Upgrading careers still escalates, in cost, but is more freeform now. You need 10 advances to get from rank 1 to 2. All advances count, so you can put 1 advance into all of your 3 attributes and then need 7 more for rank 1. or, theoretically, you could put all 10 advances into skills and none into attributes. Or put 6 into attributes, increasing each twice, and then 4 into skills. Neat stuff.

Spellcasting also exists. But the only good wizard is a dead one, so I've never looked into the old rules for it nor do I plan to look at the new ones.

Corruption works the same. You still get to do a challenging cool or endurance check, and corruption still comes in 3 exposure levels, but giving into the 4 chaos good emotional states no longer causes corruption checks. Finally slayers and flagellants aren't forced to become khorne berserkers anymore.

Mutations are mostly exactly the same, still endurance check to avoid the mutation. Tables are almost the same, only "GM's choice" on physical mutations got replaced with "spiny protrusions" with no mechanical effect, for some reason? Weird, but fine I guess.

Money is the same. 1g = 20c = 240b

Weapon Reach is no longer an optional rule. Having a longer reach now always gives +1 SL when defending against shorter weapons.

Hand Weapons are unbalanced (-1 SL when using them to defend) by default now, and cost 2GC. If you want a Hand Weapon without Unbalanced, you need to buy a Sword for 4GC. Other than that, not much changed for weapons. Seems fine to have dodge actually be better than just melee for defense now, thanks to hand weapons being unbalanced.

I think they added some more spells either from Winds of Magic or elsewhere, since I don't remember Witches getting a healing spell or Hedge Wizards' fertility magic potion, so I would guess the coloured lores got some new spells as well
The hand weapons are unchanged since C7 still expects people to buy Up in Arms and use the weapons from that book

Shields are no longer weapons, but call out that they can be used as improvised weapons with the defensive quality. Otherwise, they add +1 SL (does not stack with defensive) to all Dodge and Melee rolls meant to defend yourself. If you get hit anyhow, you add the shield AP against the attack regardless of hit location. If the shield has 2+ AP, 8so normal or large shield) you get to dodge ranged attacks at any range, similar to before.

Armor is the same as before, statwise, and got 50-300% more expensive. Only the boiled leather breastplate disappeared for some reason. Armor still weighs 1 less than printed when worn, and you can still stack leather under mail under plate for a total of 5 AP.

The price increases for armor are pretty crazy. The prefab "quick" armors went from 2/5/30GC for Light/medium/heavy to 8/44/88 GC. Though they do now give the "stacked" AP values of 1/3/5, respectively, rather than 1/2/3 as before.

Trappings don't seem to have changed much, but torches are STILL lost technology and not mentioned anywhere in the book (outside of the Light spell, which creates light like a torch, apparently).

There should be a low quality pdf in the op link

Yeah, but weapons actually got worse from Up in Arms. UiA added the unabalanced trait, but usually as some kinda tradeoff. So a Mace would be a handweapon with Pummel and Unbalanced, an axe would be hack + unbalanced, etc, while the sword would be the "default" handweapon with no traits.

But swords cost 4x as much, and all the special Unablanced+good trait got replaced with just unbalanced and nothing else for double the old price.

I get why they did it, so defensive fighting would be harder, but I'm not really sure what's up with the price inflation.

they have the option to buy 1 point at a time in the appendix

Weirdly enough, they got entirely rid of Short-term ambitions, which in my experience were a really nice addition to the system?

You still have the old long-term ambitions (now just called ambitions) both for your character and for the party.

Character Ambitions can now reward 50exp each time you make "significant progress" towards them. Examples given are killing one of the five assassins who killed your father, but not buying a sword to do the same.

Party Ambition is different now. still supposed to be long-term, but it doesn't grant you exp when achieved. Instead, everyone gets a Fate point. That IS cool, but for some reason they aren't giving any examples here, when I really want to see what they think qualifies as a party ambition worth a fate point now.

And the smaller, more in the moment goals like deciding you want to fuck over a particular NPC because he slighted you or or making friends one you liked are entirely gone. Weird choice.

Evidently torches are no longer lost technology, spotted on page 316

Huh! First thing I did when opening that book was ctrl+f torch, and it didn't show up. But there it is. Finally! Thanks for showing me the light, Anon.

if i have a magic standard on a unit standard (not a BSB) and they're killed and someone else picks up the banner, is it still that same magic standard? so it will remain in the unit until its down to the last man?

also, if i lose enough models that my whole front rank is wiped out, is the unit champion no longer in the unit or do i just pull another regular guy from the next rank?
>>
>>98605884
Yes to the first question. Your unit champion only dies when he is specifically targeted. Consult page 199 of the rulebook.
>>
>>98605884
Unless optionally targetted the champion is in the front rank until its killed. If he dies, yeah you just fill in his spot with a goober guy.

>Weirdly enough, they got entirely rid of Short-term ambitions
I guess they wanted to simplify this part of the character sheet, a bit like they removed the "Motivation".
>>
>>98605482
The Advantage/momentum change is kinda lame. Momentum only applies to melee attacks now. So no more Advantage/Momentum for ranged combat.

Have you ever indulged in a game of Warhammer: The Old World against a foid?

Thanks. Do better, anon.

That's literally the point of them, they exist for D&D refugees who don't really give a fuck about Warhammer to play basically-PC goblins or Dwarfs that use magic, because you can take the snowflake out of the D&D but never the D&D out of the snowflake.

Just be greatful they haven't yet managed to find some obscure one-liner from the original Realm of Chaos to let Tieflingfags indulge themselves.
>>
>>98606843
We won't have to worry about them again when the Warcraft 5e book drops.
>>
>>98606185
Never. Mordheim once, which was enough of a surprise. Nice girl too, came with her husband but she'd painted her own Sisters of Sigmar warband and it was good. Twice more if you counted >>98606814 with the... self made ladies, who were, to their credit, easygoing and knew the rules. And that's better than normal for the human detritus you meet at conventions.
>>98606843
Eh. The mere presence of lore I don't like indignifies the setting. There's nothing to like about gnomes in their C7 depictions or elsewhere, halflings have the cynically parodic character that makes them fit into Warhammer's earlier editions, fat little useless bastards who happen to be alright shots with a bow. Gnomes feel like they offer nothing, and dilute the setting both via genericism and just by Adding More Shit.

are there any restrictions on when you can use an army of infamy? like any legality issues? or are they perfectly legal in all forms of play and its just alternate rules?

im a little confused on weather they are supposed to be narrative content or if they are legal for regular formats too just like the main army

The only female that was into wargaming was my last roomates fiancee. But we never got a game in because she was more into the hobby and not the gaming itself.
>>
>>98606185
Did two demo games for a chick who wanted to play orcs. Nobody could bring themselves to even talk with her at the 40k area so she came over to play fantasy. We also have a grog in her 60s who basically only plays OPR, but has a few different fantasy armies she swaps between.
Otherwise, we had 2 women in 7th and 8th edition way back that was part of the tournament scene. One orcs and the other... WoC or Daemons, I can't remember which. Or it might have been either based on the day? They both did ok.
