Got the book on my Birthday from one of female friends. About to run PbtA for the first time in my life this weekend. Feeling it will be a disaster. Thinking to make the whole more like Twin Peaks. Piesces of advice, opinions, and experiences are welcome.

Anyway, haven't played it, but if the game is "is low-prep and easy to play" as their website blurb suggests then all you need is to make sure you know the rules and then go get some inspiration from the real world. Rewatch Twin Peaks, watch Lost Highway and so on

There're apparently modules in the book you can use, so if you're truly afraid of your own ideas, just riff using one of those

PBTA, if its actually going to work, is very genre trope driven.
Read up on the basics of whatever dumb bullshit brindlewood bay is supposed to be emulating.
Generally moves happen as a result of player description rather than being a declared thing. Players should describe what they're doing and you judge if it triggers a move.
Having a print out of the basic moves and the playbooks helps a lot.
Its probably some sort of social triangle based. Make those and complications that don't have direct answers.
Don't do things like
>roll + stat to do basic activity
only roll when its interesting and tension based otherwise arbitrate as would follow the fiction.
They can be fun but they're very narrative control based games about back and forth between you and the players rather than any sort of mechanical depth. A lot of them are not very good.
Hopefully its set up to give you a decent list of hard and soft moves you can refer to. Asking players questions to help them fill in the world tends to help too.

NTA
Indie games got really into A5 format a while ago.
Not sure why, might have been cost or being zine adjacent. It feels like the default size at this point.

It is a small book with A5 pages and only about 160 pages long.

Yeah, I am reading modules. It is I just doubt that the clues and cases they present really will evoke players to build theories. We'll see.

Thanks. I just have doubts about creativity of my players and PbtA authors.
