>>98611360I can't recall seeing any Lancer fics but Ao3 has hundreds of them. Not really my scene though so no clue if any of them are good.
How often do you change up your build? I have a player who has changed their mech literally every license level, and I'm happy the system allows you to be that flexible, but it makes it a pain to plan encounters ahead when I don't know what he's playing.
>>98611376I might tweak one or two things if I didn't like how a weapon felt once I was playing with it or if I know we're going into a situation where I want to cover a different niche, but a full respec more than once or twice is pretty egregious.
>>98611360The deep state prevents me from having your picrel.

>>98611436What LL is this?
>>98611436to be entirely fair, jumping away from an atlas is entirely reasonable when you realize you're trying to melee in a frame made out of wet tissue paper

>>98611475Past LL6 it's not hard to just have two separate frames that you pick between anyway, I'm surprised he's still that indecisive. If nothing else he'd run out of mechs to switch to that he hasn't already tried...
>>98611376Isn't it the point? By taking into account what you're going to face you might want to change mech depending on what you need
>>98611209>If your economic model tells both of those people to fuck off and die on the street, then it also values them equally and treats them morally and economically the same.Interesting question of values there. It seems like you would rather be in poverty than have a minimum standard of living, just so that a heroin junkie can be "punished" by a marginally worse standard of poverty than you. That seems more about superiority and spite than any real sense of fairness to me. I dont hate heroin junkies so im not overly bothered by the idea of being in the same "class" as them. The other odd thing is you seem to be rejecting the idea that all human life has innate value, and the system of human rights that idea builds into. It doesnt seem ethical to deny the rights of others, nor particularly smart to deny my own rights just to be morally superior to a heroin junkie. Thats a really high cost for a really low bar dont you think?>continuing the argumentNah, im just a tourist popping in to see if you have PDFs. It's a step to pushing beyond the containment zone and into the rest of the rpg fanbase, and into the mecha fanbase. Those have dared to hold out and its making the commuhairs seethe so something has to be done.Of course the only system they understand is dnd so of course rather than making a true mech game they have to reskin an edition of dnd.
>>98614830Take your meds grandpa
How would one go about making baddies out of SSC? I think my group is just about done with random pirates and HA
>>98614869well they do all kinds of fucked up bio-mech experimentation and try to make sure only the success stories get out to the publicthey're also heavy into covert-ops stuff, in no small part to protect their secrets like say the fact one of their mechs fused with one of their vat-grown pilots and is now going full Tetsuo
How do you get your lancers into their mechs?I like to have them be able to call for them like titanfall or something kind of horse in red dead redemption unless there's something blocking it(like a plot element)Having them be cumbersome things that you have to get into is also pretty cool since they have to be cautious to not be caught without having easy access.
>>98611360>>Due to staff shortages is pulled out of his deskjob on an assignment of pillar violations in bumfuck diasporan planeearth is like a super exclusive natural reserve park where only a few millions of union's the elitest of the elite are allowed to live. To have a native from there be "reassigned" it means some major fuck up or internal power struggle
>>98614869There's a lot of flavor text about how SSC only services a very select clientele (LUX-Iconic stuff like the Terashima blade and Black Witch). What if they were making some non-mech product that was only made available to some fat cats or something, and something about developing it/manufacturing it was ecologically or socially damaging? You could include some topical plotlines like, I dunno, they built a giant NHP datacenter that destroys nearby communities or something (maybe literally, like some paracausal shit).
>>98615419You have moments in your games when pilots are NOT in they mechs?
>>98615419I'm a sucker for the Gundam Wing grappling hooks.

Right now they are on a sabotage mission where only the goblin pilot is bringing his mech because they decided that going in silent its a better option and if shit hits the fan they'd rather get in a gunfight than have their big ass warmachine level a city block in the fight.
>>98615444I assume those people breed and have children. Could also go the route of a union higher up sending his useless bum son out to the diaspora to man up
>>98615444>where only a few millions of union's the elitest of the elite are allowed to liveThe "elitest of the elite" part isn't entirely true, or at least there's no evidence of it aside from bias. Most bureaucrats aren't particularly elite, they're just paper-pushers, even if they work in a very important place like a capital. That said, there are inhabitants all over the Sol system, both planet/moonside and in orbital habitats, and there's mention of multiple blink gates within the system. You could probably live on a moon of Jupiter and commute to work on Cradle every day.
>>98617911>You could probably live on a moon of Jupiter and commute to work on Cradle every day.Unless that moon is Callisto you'll end up with literally all the cancer
>>98615419Ladder rungs built into the outside. I'm also a sucker for the Gundam style big catwalks right at cockpit level if they're in a docking station of some sort. Currently they enter most engagement zones via assault catapult that they cobbled together from a stolen anti-gravity engine and a captured Harrison Armory tank.
>>98614869It's an interesting question because it should be easy. SSC, in my opinion, is the second most sinister of the big four companies after Harrison "we're not the reigning power anymore and we want to pick fights about it" Armory. They have entire worlds built around eugenics. They have their fingers in a lot of Karrakin cloning operations. They have great PR to hide the diabolical shit they do. Some of their mechs are their own little horror stories.I think, if I wanted to do it, I would make it personal to the team. No one in their right mind is picking a fight with SSC, but if SSC took over a PCs world for a new eugenics world, or even more specifically, kidnapped friends and family members of a party that grew up on a specific planet because the people there have a rare and valuable genetic mutation that needs to be harvested, then I think you have a hook. Make it a personal vengeance quest.
>>98615558It didn't click until the Charlie Kirk stuff that "Bella Ciao" is an Antifa thing. And then I started looking at all the other stuff in the setting like Subaltern which are, likewise, Antifa terminology.
>>98614869The party kidnaps an important SSC executive or scientist, things go wrong on the way to the delivery.
>>98615956Just the wargame feels tedious. And my players made unique, cool characters. It would be a shame if they couldn't interact with their surroundings. My game is basically like a monster of the week format. My players are carted around on a ship to perform surgical insertions into hotzones or independent planets to fulfill contracts. If the situation calls for it, they enter without their mecha, get intel or cause sabotage, then deliver the final blow in their suits, which are dropped from orbit
>>98618275Sounds like there should be a protocol for that.
You never appreciate how busted reliable weapons are until you fight a bunch of invisible enemies
>>98620011I forget, does a reliable hit still proc bonus damage?
>>98620016No because its a flat damage when you miss
>>98620063That's what I figured but couldn't remember if it still counted as a hit in that respect. Makes sense that's it's a miss that does damage, Lancer's pretty literal like that.
>>98618448Agreed but I'd even consider SSC being worse than HA. Harrison is very blatant about being mean, bad, evil guys while SSC is very sinister and behind the scenes. Maybe I just like their brand of evil more than military conquest. In my campaign a small (plausibly rogue) branch of SSC kidnapped a brilliant scientist who wanted to make SSC tier tech available to worlds at GMS prices. The scientist has been managing to send out brief messages and SoS's to the players after she was yoinked. Players are now following her path and trying to rescue her while SSC black ops try to stop them. (Big reveal is that SSC merked the scientist ages ago but not before performing a personality copy onto one of their NHP's where they have her continuing her research but now for SSC. The scientist doesn't realize this is what happened and still think she's a real person which is why she's sending out SoS's to the players. Insert fun cascade plotline and moral dilemmas when players get there.)

>>98614869Just play pic related and rip it off lmao.On my end there may be some conflict with SSC later in the campaign due to one of the pc's having an explosive brain tumor genetically coded in his DNA (so even his kids and clones will get it) from his past as a generational gulag inmate/child soldier which is 100% ssc tech so.
Are Ace, Heavy Gunner, and Nuclear Cavalier good for a Genghis? Idea is to fix mobility issues, allow me to suppress with the superheavy flamethrower, and vent heat as needed.
>>98621441heavy gunner explicitly does not work with the superheavy, heavy only so you need to use the krakatoa for thatgood news is that a krakatoa heavy gunner build is pretty damn effective, I've done it it on a Tortuga you can make ace work with a genghis, though the 1d6 can end up being 1 and then you boost for 4 spaces which feels bad
>>98620650>Harrison is very blatant about being mean, bad, evil guysYes my fellow xister, they are indeed meany bad cis white folx. What utter poopypants we should forcibly queer them
>>98621963they're literally firebombing civilians, they're blatant about it

>>98622374the only Harrison Armory frame with a pilot on it has a black pilotMeanwhile the Lancaster, the Viceroy and possibly the Emperor have white pilots though I will gladly accept the argument the Emperor pilot is pale Japanese
>>98622374Art may be what it is, but lore wise HA only cares about you being human and willing to abandon your culture for the culture of Harrison Armory. They explicitly don't give a shit about your skin color.
>>98620650I'll agree with SSC being more sinister. I like that each of the companies is both good and bad in their own ways. IPS-N will create pro lens so they can sell you the solution, and Horus is as likely to help an oppressive regime as they are to boost the rebel forces depending on their inscrutable whims.
>>98621441I like Skirmisher 2, especially since it won't interfere with a Skirmish + Covering Fire turn. Also Superheavies can't Heavy Gunner.
I wish Harrison was subtler. It's comical in it's moustache twirling. The writing of the corporations suffers because they're all supposedd to be evil, but in comparison to HA, all others seem like regularly grey companies. And because of that every newbie lancer DM defaults to punching evil harrison nazis the same way a toddler defaults to putting stuff in his mouth to chew on. Which is sad because there's a vast potential in the "Humanity first" antrochauviniwhatever ideology that is being reduced to "space fascism"
>>98623401>antrochauviniwhatevernigger there be humans and exactly one species more like how that term makes sense whatsoever lmao, lancer in general has probably the most pathetic juvenile and inhuman writing ever devised this shit is sub LLM before local ai models were even a thing

>>98623401I'm actually trying to work a more balanced take on anthrochauvenism and ThirdComm's aversion to it in the setting I'm working on specifically because of this it's one of the driving conflicts between ThirdComm and nearly all rebel factions since their culture involves a very heavy focus on terraforming and spreading life to a lifeless galaxyOne of the rebel cultures is also explicitly polynesian in origin to hopefully make people reconsider the morality a bit because I'm well aware if it even remotely reeks of a european culture everyone will try to oppose the evils of colonialism
>>98623401PUNCH A NAZI.BELLA CIAO.
>>98623457considering it explicitly is why ThirdComm stopped expanding it is also anti-alien and ThirdComm believes that colonizing more systems is an act of human supremacy, this is literally part of the lore
If i were to improve Harrison. I'd turn them into a mirror of Union. No more firebombing, puppy kicking and dedicated anti-civilian flamethrower mechs. The armed forces are aggresively polite and murderously focused on good PR. Handing out food, blankets and building hospitals. Antrochauvinism, you see, is all about humanity and we're all humans here. There's no good reason to be uncivilized! We're here to show you the light and the way to a unified humanity! Don't listen to the unionites, the thirdcomm wants humanity divided into a trillion tiny disperate cultures so that they can control you easier. Harrison wants you to be strong, Harrison wants us unified.
>>98623387>Superheavies can't Heavy GunnerI'm trying to run Superheavy melee and it feels like Superheavy overall just gets shafted. After re-reading Heavy Gunner/Covering Fire, I now realise the one time I used it with an Assault Cannon was against the rules but everybody in the party is new to Lancer and nobody in the party will particularly care.I am going to change that talent though because my DM is already allowing Duelist to work with Heavy/Superheavy Melee. Problem is, I could take Executioner again but across the entirety of Solstice Rain, enemies have so rarely clustered that I couldn't have used its talents more than once.
>>98623693I think this is the correct way to play Harrison. It's what I've been skewing towards more and more in my campaign as things move on, even though Harrison are explicitly the bad guys for this campaign. It's a better feel for them when meeting parts of their sales team than corpro-military.
>>98623746heavy gunner I would hesitate to make work with a superheavy because a superheavy is a barrage and this effectively gives you an extra action as you barrage during a skirmish duelist is fine but I personally wouldn't let you do that if I were DM'ing also heavy gunner doesn't work with melee weapons anywaysreally it is a choice to make and heavy gunner not working with superheavies is an explicit choice to avoid you being able to fire things like the plasma thrower 3x in a round
>>98623770I figured Superheavy Covering Fire would break the action economy, I think I got confused with Siege Specialist working with Cannons and assumed Heavy Gunner would also work with Cannons (Main.)Duelist working with Superheavy melee might be a problem if I was zooming around the battlefield but I've just picked up a Drake. LL3 will be Sunzi 1 to alleviate a 3Speed melee build. In the unlikely event that it's way too good to allow, the DM will rescind it, which is fair.
>>98623856if you want heavy gunner to work with superheavies my first suggestion would be: the initial action to set up covering fire with a superheavy is a barrage, not a quickbut yes heavy gunner has significant restrictions on it in part because it also requires you to select a heavy gunner friendly heavy weapon slot and even the most blatantly overpowered frames don't let you get 2 heavies on the same frame
>>98623401>play a propaganda game>huh I wonder why this feels really biased against this one faction
>>98623746Yeah the standard superheavy melee weapon sucks. There's a reason they made two alt frames with integrated superheavies and the D/D 288. Combat Drill can be fun though, despite having to very heavily build around it.
>>98624379honestly if you have some way to take advantage of knockback and have high speed the tempest charged blade is not the worst at allespecially not on frames without heavy mounts, using superheavy mounting to get a tempest charged blade on like an Orchis does workHell I've done funny things with a dusk wing with a tempest charged blade

Been thinking of running a sort of horror dungeon crawl, something ala dead space, maybe toss a cascaded nhp in it as well to make things worse. The idea would be the dungeon to be a large space ship that has both large sections that accomodates mechs such as hangars and storage bays and smaller ones forcing the players to dismount and brave the horrors without their tanks on legs. Bad idea?

Do multiple auxiliary weapons in the same mount count as a single weapon for the purpose of barrage?
>>98631145yes you usually fire as a mount not as a weapon
>>98630964Great idea, honestly, especially if you can contrive a scenario where the players start outside their mechs and have to mount up before The Horrors can get to them, or even reasons to have a mixed in and out of mech sitrep, like someone has to man a control room while the rest of the party fends of creatures. I'd love to play something like that.
How would you fix Pinaka Missiles? I see no reason to take them over any other Superheavy, let alone Gandiva missile from the same license.

>>986332592d6 on probably only one enemy vs 3d6 each on as many enemies as you and your teammates can corral into the target areas over the course of two rounds.
>>98633350Honestly this. Pinaka exists if the group wants to do a build around team that's able to leverage it. If they don't, then you just don't run them.
>>98633350unless you're doing something very wrong, you're hitting at minimum 2 enemies with pinakas also the abilities your team uses to move them around can also be used to you know, bunch up a couple of enemies for your shots on that very same turnreally the 3d6 payoff is not that great and absolutely not worth giving enemies another opportunity to shoot you, especially not the type of high priority enemies that warrant a superheavy to the face not to mention that they don't place nice with every mission type and it's just blast 1 zones, you can't really fit that many enemies in itand course it requires your team to not just invest heavy into forced movement or teleportation but also immobilization at the opportunity cost of their own damage, like we're not talking about just a puppet systems here, you need to go in with vlad or white witch systemsreally, if you want 3d6 aoe damage, just make a siege cannon build, blast 2 so you'll get about as many enemies as the pinaka will but you actually do your damage on your current turndelayed damage in lancer is frankly, really really bad because a lot of NPC do not fuck around in the slightest, letting an operator live 1 extra turn can genuinely mean someone just got structured
>>98634148It's not always THAT much lost damage to immobilize somebody. Grappling also immobilizes, so something like a Blackbeard or a Balor that's built to deal damage during a grapple contributes. Vlad deals damage while immobilizing with the Impaler Nailgun or the Charged Stake, and White Witch is a Defender who wants to get hit, and its weapons and systems that immobilize also draw the immobilized target's aggro, so it's doing its job there. Quite a few Talents (including the missile-focused Stormbringer that any Monarch build should be taking) can add immobilization, knockback, and the prone condition to certain types of weapon attacks too.If the sitrep doesn't allow you to make full use of Pinakas, then by all means don't bring them. Lancer lets you do that. Tlaloc is a good enough reason to take the third level of Monarch on its own.
Can T3 Duelist be triggered by throwing a weapon? The rule says melee attack
>>98635169Lancer's pretty literal. If it says melee attack, it means melee attack. It'd be weird to throw a shock knife 5 titles and warp over for free grapple.
>>98634682oh no, Tlaloc absolutely is good enough, that I would never arguegrappling however is pretty darn awkward given that generally speaking the PC's don't want to get hit by the Pinakas, not even a White Witch wants that level of friendly fire prone is generally not going to be enough to keep an enemy in the blast zone though and neither is knockback reliably going to get multiple people in the same blast zoneI guess the thing I don't quite see is how this immobilize and bunch up enemies plan has the Pinaka as a good payoff, stuff like the siege cannon, plasma thrower, whatever bullshit killzone the iskander has set up, or just putting a bunch of enemies next to an angry Lycan or Enkidu

>>98615956Several times. Just this session, I've had them my players doing combat outside their mechs, since their mechs were too small to fit inside. Converted Light weapons to 1d2, Mediums into 1d4, and heavies into 1d8. It worked out well enough.
Whats a good build for a blackbeard frame for it to be able to make the most out of Nuclear Cavalier? I think managing heat will be a problem so should probably dip in some heat resistant frame to compensate. Assuming I only can take one, would Genghis or Sherman be best for a purely melee build based on throwing as many attacks to the enemy as possible and turning heat into an additional weapon?
>>98635568Neither. Take Tokugawa for Heat Sink and then grapple as many targets as possible into a cluster and deep fry them with Annihilator.
>>98635169Ranged attack with a melee weapon =/= a melee attack
>>98627074From what I perused most of the warframes have booties or other molded footwear like Excalibur's ninja feet, and the few that did have separate toes had 3 clawed dinosaur feet.I also thought there were more Gardevoir/Flame Atronach "legs end in points instead of feet" designs in Warframe, but then i remembered these character models have to look good while animated running on walls so shoe feet is gonna be the norm.

>>98635631Tokugawa is ass though
>>98635833But his pc is bricked... and he's on a different continent. We just were pointing and laughing at the Karrakin because they failed miserably and we had to save their asses.
>>98635870Resistance against Heat is always good and Blackbeard is uniquely well suited to cluster enemies together for Annihilator. Not to mention Torch is good.
>>98631558>if you can contrive a scenario where the players start outside their mechs and have to mount up before The Horrors can get to themSo far im thinking of having a ship/station with different rooms that can accomodate or not a mech, for example the hangar bay and engineering as a whole would be pretty mech accessible, probably have some civilian mechs to commandeer in case the players get busted with their pants down. But in general im gonna go the dead space "holy shit you have to go there to fix this" route to contrive them going in and out. like having most of the station depressurized, and them having to delve into the not so mech sized upper decks to reboot the atmospheric systems. and of course as you said, plenty of occasions like that control room scenario.found a pretty good map set with deck plans and all for free to run it, i may even buy the abandoned version when/if i finish writing the mission. I kind of have an idea already based on last threads discussion about ssc and it sort of fits with the overall main "secret danger" of my campaign
>>98635169yep, thats why Blackbeard with war pike is scary (also executioner 3 triggers on a grapple attempt as well should you miss it)
