Anyone hear anything about the Freebooter Fate in space game?
>>98615801>What's your favourite fantastical sports game?Don't have one. Sports isn't for me.
I had another game of Steel Rift yesterday, a larger 200 ton (point) match. I tabled my opponent on turn 4 but the way that scoring works is I actually lost the game because of it since I hadn't made up the difference in points which is a pretty funny way to lose a King of the Hill match.I think someone said last time I posted that the game sounds a lot like armored core which I think is a pretty good way of describing it. Without real phases and skipping the to-hit roll the game goes really fast but there's a lot of stuff going on that makes it deceptively complex.
>>98616110I got to fool around with jump jets and melee this game which was fun. Positioning is super important, even more important than in Adeptus Titanicus, since if you move out in the open the heavier you are the more likely you're going to be disintegrated by either massed fire or an ultra heavy. If you're lighter with a better defensive roll you can get a bit riskier but the main way to survive seems to be stacking debuffs from cover, not being the closes target, and weapon rules.
>>98616126I ended up leaving two big firing lanes when setting up the board and they were how I got half my kills so next time I'll have to make sure a straight line doesn't extended for more than maybe twenty inches. You run out of space on a 3x3 very quickly.
>>98616110no roll to hit? so just auto damage? that sounds neat though.is it alternating activations?
>>98615801Probably the dumbest TQ in the history of this thread
>>98616110>Skipping "to hit" roll.Of GW's dreaded slogfest Holy Trinity of to hit, to wound, to save trio this is the one I was the least expecting to get canned. How does that work?
>>98616110>I think someone said last time I posted that the game sounds a lot like armored core which I think is a pretty good way of describing it. Without real phases and skipping the to-hit roll
>>98616267Yeah it's alternating.>>98616434When you shoot or melee you determine the damage pool and your opponent makes a defense roll for the damage pool of the attack. Big units can buy an extra feel-no-pain-esque armor save but that effects your firepower. The idea is that with sci-fi targeters, rangefinders, drines, AI assistance and all this tech the hit is guaranteed and the target has to try and get out of the way. The developers said they made the choice so players don't really get diced out when playing.
>>98616672>The developers said they made the choice so players don't really get diced out when playing.Sounds like lazy game design to me.
>>98616701Nah, it works really well. It's not like Titanicus where the units are all lumbering mountains, these are more like metal gears.>>98616499When you activate a unit it performs 2 actions and then you move on. Since it's assumed all the shots hit and damage for every attack it's just one roll though units can make 3-5 attacks depending on their size. Once everyone is activated you just move to the next turn.
>>98616672Sorry if it's a dumb question but what "being diced out" mean here? Game sounds cool, I'm all in for a Mecha battle as a side-game instead of a life style. I already have Horizon Wars but I'll keep an eye on Steel Rift thanks to you anon.
>>98617018nta,getting "diced" just means losing because bad rolls.generally said when a whole lot of rolls have gone wrong, or by people who are bad at games.
>>98615801>>98616388Yeah because the answer is Blood Bowl, end of story.Anyone claiming anything else is a nogames secondary shill.
>>98617018Just like the other Anon said it's getting screwed by bad rolls, either consistant bad rolls that ruin the match or that one roll you really need going snake eyes and the like.
Warring states infantry to be released tomorrow.>Massive Weapon Variety: Packed with options so you can assemble up to 6 crossbowmen, 6 spearmen, 8 two-handed swordsmen, 10 halberd (dagger-axe) men, or 12 swordsmen! >Build a Complete Army: Pair these with the upcoming Unarmored Infantry, Chariot, and Cavalry sets to field a full Warring States host! Not a fan of not being able to arm the unit with all the same weapons, but it's nice that it'll be finally here after 5 years. But I think I'll use my this month's hobby budget for the fireforge games camel Kickstarter.

>>98617054>>98617094Mh. Being "diced out" sounds a lot like cope to me then.
>>98617393very genuinely, it does happen. you can get yahtzee on a 2+ and miss every shot.but it is usually cope, yes
>>98617306They look like they have really long torsos and tiny baby legs

I haven't kept up with MKIV but what happened to Lylyth? I thought the whole Khymera thing was Rhyas' solo project, didn't know she poached more of Blighty's harem
>>98617925Basically Everblight abandoned them all after the Scouring, and Lylith decided being an unsexy dragon chimera thing would be preferable to being alone. There's deeper fiction behind it, but its paywalled in the app.
>>98617999Aw man I really liked that guy, hope he wasn't eaten like Blither apparently got
>>98617393It is of course possible to have a game where your rolls fall outside what's statistically expected, but weirdly enough people only dwell on it when it's not in their favor!Talking like "i'm really bad at rolling/not with my dice/have you seen my rolls/etc." is one of the few things that really annoys me with people. Fine man, let's get those dice of yours out and start graphing out your results, maybe you really do have defective dice and aren't just unable to understand simple psychology! In conclusion, yes, it's merely whining about being bad while likely not understanding probability.
>>98617306I have waited since before the edge of oblivion and now it crawls with the coming chaos.
>>98618017No, he just went into hiding. He abandoned the Nyss and is relying on his soulless clone projects now.
>>98618131Damn even Thargosh?
>>98618178I think Thaggy got killed, so EB transferred his main anthanc to Kallus. I don't know what happened to the Ogrun, but S&R went whole ham on eating the Nyss to make more dragon people.
>>98617999>UnsexyMan of poor taste
>>98618024Man its the only thing table top sim has over meat space. Auto recording rolls and letting me see the spread. Had a kill team game where my average was 2.1. always have the buy a lottery ticket urge after
>>98617306I just dunno what's going on with WGA sculpts lately. Why are the faces and the overall proportions so janky? It's like they're deliberately recreating the style of bad old metal historical minis that boomers collect.
Quar armour duel; Chyweethl versus Krassyl. It turned into a slugfest, even though the Krassyl blew a gasket by gunning it's engine too hard on turn one, it could have gone either way but for a lucky deflection onto the Chyweethl's track, but the Coftyran machine won out, due to it's essentially superior armour and qualities in a head-on confrontation. The Chyweethl failed in this instance to leverage it's superior movement, and was first immobilized, by the advancing Chyweethl, which rounded the treeline and wall, the advanced, destroying what was left of it's self-sabotaged motive systems, then cored out the hull at close range.Took a while to get round to actually using the full-scale armour rules. The manually reloaded cannon on the Chyweethl has a greater opportunity when you have more units to activate than just the tank, due to the game's action economy.
>>98618599The Krassyl was immobilized.* by the advancing Chyweethl.I think a part of my brain just likes typing Chyweethl.
>>98617460It's cuz they're wearing knee length skirts.
>>98618483The proportions aren't too bad. The faces are janky. I think the worst bit is the poses though. They seem stiff and awkward. Almost like marionettes. I think it's because the elbows are two far out.
>>98618483Those are 5 year old sculpts is why.
Holy shit the Sepoys look much better than the WS armored guys.Wait, wasn't Sharpe in India? I can't remember if he led sepoys, but you can probably fit him in there somehow. Just before the mutiny and all that.
>>98618483>the mongol(oid) auxiliaries arrivedThanks. I guess.
'Wog tractor progress.Shaedyn's a dinky tank destroyer type fella. My mate lost the driver in the goo reservoir and had to fish him out, he will deliver him to me in due time.
>>98619302uhh there are 20 year old sculpts that look way better than that
>>98620005ok, and? I mean if you start sculpting now you will be shit for years, that doesn't mean someone couldn't have been a better sculptor already when you started or even years ago?not trying to defend the shitty models, just saying that your post makes no sense
Old Dominion getting more possessed statues.
Warmachine being here ... How the mighty have fallen and yet still exist
>>98620031Pretty neat models. Wish they did more freaky Spires models. The desolation drones work well in sci-fi.
>>98620090If the anons are correct, they are 10million in debt, so...>>98620108Oh I love it, they seem the garthonks or whatever from teh Dark crystal (some of my pereferd fantasy!)
>>98620175Another conquest kit I'd like to have a crack at converting are the dweghom flame berserkers. They're already pretty sci-fi, but lack ranges weapons. Here's my take on the city states inquisitors. I just need to sit down and actually finish painting the bloody things.
Is there any wargame that exists sort of like the WFB 1st/2nd ed that's a mix of a wargame and rpg?
>>98618483They're alright. I don't really see them setting the Cathay players world alive and personally I get the convenience/kitbash factor but I only buy metal minis now. Also Hudson shit on 15mm and I took that personally. Dark Age army builder is a cool kit, Chinese Boxers suckedhttps://youtu.be/HZfjJAZKt0E?si=_QXeO5KkAX-1sTH7
>>98620698Oathmark?>>98620194Not bad, I also like the spires the most, tough I also liked the Clones of Drizz in confrontation.
>>98620846Yeah kindaBut nobody has claimed a proper whfb heartbreaker without streamlining it which is not the point. It should be a little bit dense and ridiculous and prioritise fun over balance Oathmark doesn't do anything with the harquebus, fluted plate, steam wagons, eagle chariots etc
>>98620846Is that even an RPG? I like the nation building thing but from what I can tell it's not really designed for narrative scenarios or what have you.
>>98620175>10millionHow the fuck does that happen? Not even I that construct buildings with over 400 units get to this much debt, and the entire industry is just one pay day away of collapsing. oh the thrills of doing construction
>>98620867NO idea mate as a gardener/electrician you have to fuck up years to get such debt, like to me even 500.000 eypos would be years of losing money.
>>98620867Sorry to hear that. Small DIY projects on ones summer cabin or apartment are a good pastime for office workers like myself, but the industry as a whole seems rather unstable. But then again I have to wrangle jeets daily and take responsibility for their fuckups in front of clients. Our biggest client also decided not to renew their contract with us so I've no idea where I'll end up in a few months...But at least the upcoming bohemian knights look great. Excited for the rest of the Hussite range appearing next year.
>>98620867A company gets into debt the same way a stupid individual does.By spending on the never-never, on the mistaken assumption that they will recoup the loss -somehow-.
>>98620867That sort of debt is usually the result of an unusually good year, and growing the company as if the good year is their new baseline.Basically you bet on Line Goes Up, but it doesn't.
>>98620939For what I read the debt is mostly taxes? At least in my country that is a non issue, at least in construction worst case you can't get new permits, but that is easily solvable by starting another company. Is not like you are going to jail for taxes that would be extremely retarded. You want the money and a jailed man can't really pay you.
Uh, have they actually ported Menoth? Lots of those don't seem to be as "updated" as the Cygnar/khador ones.
>>98621025>Lots of those don't seem to be as "updated" as the Cygnar/khador ones. And that's a good thing.
>>98620993Taxes?Really?Could they not afford a fucking accountant to tell them not to overspend? How about reigning in that cancerous growth rate and telling the "angel investors" to keep their trousers zipped up if they want pumpkins instead of peanuts? It's always the same story of poor decisions driven by "investors".This is me literally guessing, and it's a confidently ignorant one, because the problem is usually the same.
>>98620867>>98620926If you're part of the in-group, debt is meaningless because FIAT currency has no value, if you're not then it won't matter if you're in debt or not, life will suck.
>>98620090Eh that's fine. Warmachine was never that active discussion wise even with its own threads, even when it was mostly people airing their grievances over Mk3 era. >>98620175Eh, it's probably people stirring shit over their awful crowdfunding fiascos. Well I say awful, but half the industry is way worse and keeps falling for the same: "fund old project with new projects" trapping. What actually interesting to me here is how they completely been separating Warmachine IP from SFG over the course of this year, kind of a warning sign to me. >>98619073I think the faces are fine, just expression of the artist. Doing faces in general is hit or miss regardless of the sculpt. But yeah, I think it's the poses too. Looks very goofy. >>98621025They look closer unit-type wise and aesthetically to original Menoth than Storm Legion and Winter Korps did to their respective original armies, not sure what you mean anon.
>decide to start solo gaming >decide to do a narrative campaign >start with a simple idea for a campaign >think of a few factions that are going to play off eachother >just spent 3 hours this morning typing up the creation of the world my game takes place in.Help.... I can't stop....
>>98620958That's my former company right here. They sold stuff by mail and couldn't get that the COVID year where everyone was trapped home was something very special for their industry and the 300% growth wasn't here to stay.
>>98621480Why I do the same shit. Been doing the different factions of an acheronian like empire post fall and how they diverged culturally, military and magically.
>>98621480Prepisplay.wav
>>98621291There is a saying in my country that roughly translate to:>when you owe the bank a small amount of money, you have a problem>when you owe the bank a lot of money, the bank has a problemAlso>debt is meaningless because FIAT currency has no valueTechnically speaking nothing has value. Everything has a cost though.
>>98621480This is the way
>>98618294Just can't catch a break, those guys
>>98618294I love how cartoony of a villian EB is.
I like North Star's Oathmark models, the way they're a bit chunky but characterful.I want to try some of their other ranges, maybe an all metal one. Which are their best?
>>98622210The fistful of kung-fu set looks great. I also loved Big Trouble in Little China.
>>98621466The 10 mil sounds suspicious. I don't doubt they are in some kind of financial trouble, but that number sounds kinda like something someone pulled out of their ass, especially in this industry.>>98621970It fits his character.
>>98622700On one hand I kinda hate him for this asshole move, but on another that is the kind of this he would do, probably scared shitless after Blitherghast got merc'd tooCan't wait to see what that nerd cooks up with Virtues and shit alongside Kallas, dude is probably gonna become an archangel lite or something
>>98622678Are those from A Chinese Ghost Story?
>>98622757Can't wait to see his loony toones evil plan to bit his scaly ass again and again, and survive.I spiritually link with this dragon nerd, the idea of making cool dragonspawn for the love of the game is something I would do if I was a WarmHordes dragon. What he did with the Nyss was also evil as hell, only to get his Elven harem.
>>98622678Those demons look really cool
Anyone know if Frostgrave, or Stargrave, are worth playing for solo gaming? I can't really find any in depth opinions of it with basic google fu.I'm predominantly a sci-fi gamer but I think I like the look of Frostgrave more than Stargrave.
>>98623531Rangers of Shadow Deep is the same engine and meant specifically for solo play for the ground up. I haven't personally played Frostgrave's solo scenarios since I had access to Rangers from the start, but the engine is fine for it.
>>98623593>Rangers of Shadow Deep is the same engine and meant specifically for solo play for the ground upI see. I don't know anything about that game, could you tell me a little about it? I have heard its name mentioned on /tg/ before.
>>98623609So it's the same basic engine with a leader and some soldiers going out to do stuff, but instead of a wizard and hired goons going into a ruined city for profit, it's one of the king's rangers (despite the name, they can be built as any sort of adventurous combatant) venturing into or fighting off raids from the gaping hole in the ground that used to be the nation next door. The eponymous Shadow Deep is some sort of creeping evil sinkhole full of a thick, dark mist, and it's spreading.
>>98623725One or more, since it can be played co-op. Each player builds a Ranger, which have a full character creation system. Then you add companions, who are similar to Frostgrave soldiers. The more Rangers there are, the less companions each one gets. Nothing stops a solo player from running multiple Rangers either, although 3 Rangers will only have one or two companions each unless they spec into companion wrangling, and 4 or more Rangers will typically only be able to muster one mediocre companion each.
Does Frostgrave have rules for mimics? Treasure tokens that turn out to be monsters?
>>98624638Not in the main book, but someone's probably done it. It wouldn't be hard to implement, the concept of "special treasure tokens" already exists, having something happen when you try to grab it isn't far fetched.
>>98624652Might throw it in. I'm looking at putting a small campaign together to scratch the fantasy itch between battletech games. First thought is jist, place an extra treasure token during setup. Any time a token is grabbed for the first time, roll a D20, and on a 1-3, that token was a mimic, roll on the bestiary table to find out what it really was. Then don't roll for future tokens.
>>98624663My instinct would be to make it closer to guaranteed. Something like if you've got five treasures, put seven cards into a deck that you pull from when you touch a treasure for the first time, two of them are Jokers that signal that it's a mimic.
Moonstone looks really fun as someone who likes to paint but I cant decide where to start.>Commonwealth nobles look baller as fuck>The shades look like really fun baddies but I'd have to buy extra boxes of psychopumps and shit to get it going>The fauns are get a dude on a moose and a big dumb rabbit>Dominion has a few evil pirates and nobles I like (I am a sucker for women in baroque clothing) but its like 2 and they have little synergy with each other and I am not super interested in goblins or fairiesI could go in a lot of differant ways. Also pissed that the evil nobles like Duchess can't be in shades since they represent the old court of the forgotten king
>>98624841Personally I went all in on Leshavult as I like the forest people flavor, planning to pick up the new rogue box for the violinist who has a cat that gives giants extra actions, sounds fun.
>>98624864>planning to pick up the new rogue box for the violinist who has a cat that gives giants extra actions, sounds fun.tell me more. which faction?
>>98624872Human and Leshavult faction for the Violinist and Cat, though the box itself is primarily Leshavult. It came out few days ago.
>>98624872Is there good combo for dominion pirates/rogue or a list with dutchess and creep?
IS there a warmachine/Warcaster generic ruleset or equivalent out there? Good for a few units, monsters and some magic/whatever, but without having to use Name Warcasters and such, I like to grown my captain/Mage in Frostgrave style more than having an obligatory character.
>>98615801/awg/'s thoughts on Trench Crusade?
>>98626920fag central
>>98626920It has its own general
>>98626926>>98626928you just said the same thing
>>98626920it's 40k for people who don't want to pay GW.You could do literally anything, but you do "40k with a twist" instead of 40k, so you really actually want to do 40k. Wasted opportunity to broaden your horizons and try something different, imo.
>>98626920I was told that the product is not for me, so I shrugged and found something else to spend my money on.I was also never sold on the aesthetic which seems to sit at the junction of derivative, and generic. Also, what passes for "worldbuilding" is just a naff blurb that somebody typed out in an afternoon.
>>98627059>I was told that the product is not for meHow so? Was there some drama I'm unaware of?
>>98627078Shit's been nothing but drama on /tg/.
Working on a Bestiary for Frostgrave. Based on the Lich Lord one, but adapted to the minis I have on hand or can get easily. Stuff marked with (C) is in the core rulebook, and stuff with a (T) is from TotLL. The Lightkeeper is gonna be a custom entry for this freaky ghost mini with a bunch of lanterns I got in a trade a while back.
>>98627078I presume it has something to di with this statement >>98626926 because companies that support faggots love to make statements like>We are tolerant but we will not tolerate the intolerant so if you hate buttsex then you are not welcome in our community!
>>98627226That's an encounter table. A bestiary is a collection of monster descriptions/stats.
>>98627235Yes, you are correct about terminology. I will commit sudoku within the hour.
>>98626920I had no interest till I saw these models and HAD to paint them. Ladybugs being assosiated to our lady was fun and I am so glad I have them.Never played since my friends dont want to, which is fair
>>98627241Cute, in catalan my language ladybugs are called Marietas, the little ones of maria.
>>98626920Fun game, good lore, great models, fuckign awful community. Play with your close friends and nobody else.
>>98627078>>98627228Basically I am not a raging progressive.I saw that the creators preferred to cater to raging progressives, as evidenced by their moderation policies, which I heard about second hand, and decided to exercise my consumer right to keep my wallet closed, which is something I have become very practiced at of late.I am happy to for instance, give my chudbux to Joshua Qualtieri, who despite probably being a progressive just by dint of his proximity to L.A. isn't actively trying to fumigate me from the hobby, and is happy to give me plastic for money, sans sermon.
>>98623725>>98623750Grabbed the rulebook today for a better look, thanks for the recommendation anon.

>>98627645I want to know what the obsesion with nigger, nigga and variants in the algo world, because that word was already overused when I started using 4chan more than a decade ago, and it only got cornier and cornier as times goes one.
The problem with Trench Crusade is that the devs said "there's no such thing as "bad guys" in our setting" in a setting that has literal demon spawned baby rapers.
>>98627686I just ignore the devs and play with friends. The game size, the dice system and light rules hit just the right spot for me where it's not too simple, like say K47, and there's a really nice selection of 3rd party sculpts to find online. Plus I like how it actually gets people to build fields other than the same boring 40k style L-shaped ruins, not sure why this game specifically actually managed to encourage people to do so when you can use trenches for pretty much any AWG.
>>98627366Cool but catalan is a dialect not a language.
>>98627399>chudbuxwhat does this even mean
>>98627399>Basically I am not a raging progressive.Huh. You'd think people researching history and religion by necessity would at least be a little bit more centrists, even if it is just to use them as backdrop for a game's setting.Oh well.
>>98627769money (bucks) from an individual of supposed low status (chud is some kind of feminist shaming language like incel)
>>98627794incredible then that the anon just outs himself as a retard randomly for no reason

Do you guys things Toruk had his nerd phase like Everblight and made different dragonspawns, or he got burned when all the dragons rebeled. I kinda of want a Cryx dragonspawn army.
>>98627814Not at all. A language without an army and a navy is a dialect. Shrimple as that.

>>98627998Personally I am waiting for the dinosaur riding paladins I was promised, what's taking Tristan so long?
>>98626920Not a fan of the aesthetics or lore or "7+ on 2d6 with modifiers" everything.
>>98626920No strong opinion one way or another. Looks cool, but I'm not interested in learning another game I'll very infrequently play.
>>98627998>and there's loss of sales if they don't change enough. If you can acknowledge this then it is time for you to stop buying, this says "the game is complete and the only reason for further change has nothing to do with the game"The company that reaches this point can only move forward by viewing their playerbase adversarially.
>>98628765I mean, it would be, if you could buy the old stuff.
>>98628787>if you could buy the old stuff.Ah well in that case it's best to drop it altogether if you can't pirate books and print minis.
>>98628861Fuck off.
I've got a set of this that I'm gonna turn into a loaner warband for Frostgrave. Trying to decide what kind of wizard to go for. Narrowed it down to Witch, Soothsayer, or Thaumaturge. Any thoughts?
>>98629055Does 2nd edition still let you take animal companions for Witches? You could add a swarm of ravens to your warband.
Okay I'm calling it now, there will be three Menoth factions, each representing a different aspect/gift of hisFiora who we have now represents his flame and wrathAfter that we will get Kreoss and Protectorate proper who represents Law and, you know, lawfulnessThen we will get Tristan's whacky Zu funtimes who will represent the Wall and protection of the faithful, and maybe his aspect as a great hunter
>>98629055Id go witch. Fits the spook >>98629295Yes, no bird companion but you can just say its whatever. Thaw of the lich has the crow master that gets a crow pet though, fit great into the theme

Got whooped in Carnevale today. The burning saint just doesn't seem to have a lot of HP. Also the executioners half their HP procced, when it would have just outright killed the target, knew it would happen. We just did a big deathbrawl with me deploying further up to try to get better positioning for the knights explosion. Had a blast either way, always do. Gods it's just a pain trying to remember rules between like 6 different games.
>>98629689I love those el cheapo flimsy cardboard buildings but I'm mad only Infinity and Carnevale sell some. It should be an industry standard.

I cannot, for the life of me, find a fantasy-medieval skirmish game that I like.
>>98631697Finding the right fantasy-medieval skirmish game can feel incredibly frustrating because so many systems either bury you in complex rules or completely miss the mark on narrative depth. If you want something that gets you playing quickly without sacrificing flavor, it helps to look at games that focus on low model counts, fast pacing, or deep campaign progression.Take Frostgrave, for example. It is a fantastic choice if you love the idea of leading a powerful wizard and their apprentice into a hunt for treasure. You only need about ten miniatures, and the real magic happens between games, where your wizard learns new spells, levels up, and deals with permanent injuries. If you prefer working together or playing entirely on your own, the same creator made Rangers of Shadow Deep. This one plays almost like a tabletop roleplaying game, where your customized heroes fight against an automated enemy AI system rather than another player. If you crave a grittier, more brutal atmosphere, Mordheim remains a legendary option. Officially out of print, its massive cult following keeps the rules alive online. It tracks the desperate struggles of small warbands in a ruined city, offering unmatched roleplaying elements where your fighters can gain mutations, injuries, or legendary status over time. But if you want something a bit larger but intensely tactical, Saga: Age of Magic shifts the focus to small units of around thirty to forty models. It throws out traditional turn phases in favor of a clever dice-activation board, keeping both players constantly engaged and reacting to each other's moves. It would be great to know whether you prefer competitive player-versus-player fights, co-operative campaigns, or solo adventures. Consider your ideal scale, such as keeping it under ten miniatures or managing a small army of 30-40 units. Funally, let me know if you lean toward tight, tactical rulebooks or loose, narrative-driven systems, and we can find your perfect match.
>>98631807>You only need about ten miniaturesWRONG!This is only true for a demo/pickup game where someone else is supplying everything except your warband. If you intend to play consecutive games, you need miniatures that expoand your warband beyond your creation picks, think a minimum of 8 dual purpose thug/thief minis, and then all the specialists you want to hire, ever. Then you need a dense table of terrain to cover a minimum of 2'x2' this is a milk crate full or more easily. Then if you don't intend to play strictly PvP you need around 75-100 miniatures to cover the BASIC encounter table of the core rulebook alone.Frostgrave is a miniature heavy game, just a single warband and that first encounter table bring you to a 40k army worth of plastic.
>>98631807>>98632090Frostgrave is on the list of games I wasn't super fond of.Mordheim is on the to-try list but I need to wait on my buddy finishing up his current project.Open Combat is okay and customization is decent, but it lacks structure and builds end up feeling very similar.MESBG is like a too-tightly tuned drum, you mostly need 6s to get kills and the balance is so exact that it's impossible to find fun matches outside of carefully engineered scenario play.Reign in Hell has a cool initiative mechanic and the gameplay is fairly intuitive, but it just doesn't grab me. A good game, just not what I'm looking for.Rangers of Shadowdeep is more RPG than skirmish game that requires a lot of specific miniatures and terrain to play it authentically. OPR is fine mechanically, and the army builder is fucking fantastic, but I hate how their morale situation is "You've taken a wound, you do nothing next turn" it removes all agency and presents faux-depth.Sword Weirdos, I really like this one, but nobody around me wants to play and I've heard it's not at its best in solo play, but I haven't tried that myself yet.Brethren is MESBG with the numbers filed off, it's almost an exact replica.Haven't tried Greathelm yet, but I'm excited for it.Up next I'll be looking at Brutal Quest. I enjoy Planet28 quite a lot, even backed the new edition, so I have high hopes.etc
>>98632090Frostgrave was meant to be supported by a pre-existing D&D or similar RPG miniatures collection. Things like gnolls could be orcs or whatever you already have.
>>98632090>and then all the specialists you want to hire, ever. You certainly don't need that at the beginning of many games and this is a weird approach to have. Being able to buy and paint another dood for the next game is normal and not a great imposition, or if you're in the middle of a few games over a weekend using a counts as something that came up during campaign progression is quite normal.
>>98631697Its not explicitly fantasy but the rules for En Garde! are quite enjoyable and its easy to add in fantastical bits as needed from the optional rules, the mythical monsters from the weeb version and a bit of creativity. Well worth a look if you haven't seen it. Advanced Song of Blades and Heroes is only alright but unit customization can be fun.
>>98632253Yes that's the part to focus on, the ONE extra specialist, ignore the 75-100 monsters and the dense table of terrain.
>>98632237I don't see anything in the Frostgrave books or marketing about this, no warning of any kind that it is for established collectors. What I do see everywhere is assholes spouting "you only need 10 minis for Frostgrave!" which is bullshit.
>>98632271I'll give it a look, thanks for the recommendation, but I do wonder what was going through the designers head when they thought up this for shooting. (Not that I'll be using guns for the most part)
>>98632282Among all the friends you plan to play wargames with, none has either a bunch of D&D minis or a resin printer?
>>98632329I have a large frostgrave collection. You're missing the point of my issue, tgat is telling noobs that "you only need 10 minis!" because it's not true.
>>98632387Sure it is. The new players only need 10 minis. It's the campaign organizer who needs more.
>>98632310Historical wargamers are more accustom to multi step processes that have a more arithmetic in them, charts or a static number you have to deal with. I think the presentation of it in the book is quite badly done, which is par for the course with Osprey really. In practice its been easy to get the hang of and teach. The sword fighting rules are by far the best part and have enough merit to them I'm willing to deal with the clunkier aspects. There's also The Dolorous Stroke, haven't played it and its very small warband focused. There was another 4ish per side knights fighting each other game I saw float past last month called Greathelm I think, but I haven't looked into it.
>>98632426Right because anon didn't say>you only need 10 minis to playanon said>if you're joining an existing campaign, you only need 10 minis to startRight?
>>98632522Alrighty then, I'll have a good in depth look at En Garde tomorrow morning, thanks again for the recommendation. Greathelm is 6-a-side, I mentioned it here >>98632226 as being a game that I'm excited to play. Once again just waiting on wargaming buddies to finish up their current projects.
>>98632090>you need over 10k minatures to play the game properly!!!!Lol? Me and my bloke only had 10 guys each to play and we used empty bases to represent the monsters.

>>98632990Not him, I've played it. It's decent. Lots of tactical depth for its tiny footprint. Very different from most games, like you can start the battle already in melee with the enemy
>>98633081>muh immersion Skill issue.
>>98633123I looked at your random encounter table and all it says is "monsters from the Id" what's up with that?

>>98633207I like this. Is the beach a printed neoprene?
>>98633207HOLY FUARKING KVNO
>>98633081>blank basesPerhaps I didn't make myself clear. We used empty bases, ones that had no minatures on them, as tokens for monsters that spawned. We also used 2X4 scrap cuts from his remodel of his basement for all the terrain.

Trying to decide between picking up Renegade Scout or Xenos Rampant. What, in your opinion, is the deciding factor between the two? The point where you say "well if you prefer this over that, then you should definitely go with..."?
>>98636908Renegade Scout is literally smoothed out Rogue Trader. Xenos Rampant has its own identity and honestly mostly fixes the activation problems of previous Rampant titles.
>>98615801Which wargames that fall under this category have the best looking minis in terms of detail and quality?
>>98631807Do not post this ai drivel ever again.
>>98636925Anon thats such a dumb question its in the end impossible to answer it properly since you are asking for something subjective.InfinityMalifaux when it existedKingdom Death has the best bodies I have ever seenOriginal Dropzone Commander had multipart minis with elements made from materials which are the most suitable for themReally you must ask for something more precise.
>>98636839What does the Carcass Front have to do with Warzone? You've seriously confused me here.
>>98636925Casting a very wide net there anon. In general, higher scale minis will always have more detail, that's natural. The Starcraft miniatures are pretty beloved, they are huge which is a weird choice but they do look great. Guards of Traitor's Toll has nice looking minis too and is great for your bits box. Tons of extra faces, weapons and general clutter.
>>98636908Do you want another Nordic Weasel homage to Rogue Trader with a medium amount of crunch? If Y then this. Does the Rampant series' units can only be at full strength or half strength work for you as a fundamental example of how abstract it gets? If Y then this. They're both fairly customizable to do generic scifi battles but operate fairly differently. Xenos Rampant has a hard copy compared to having to print out your own Renegade Scout if that's important.
>>98637010I am not even that anon but Warzone is about a bunch of brits in space opening up a portal to hell and everything getting invaded by demons. Same general story beat but much better aesthetics and everything.
Hows this for baby's first moonstone list?Dutchess and Creep for energy sapping and general support. Really I just want duchess because her model a cute Some troll or giant, I'm thinking ribald or maybe gotchgut. The idea is to have dutchess giving it loads of energy to smash shit. The cannon troll might be the best choice as this list lacks any other rangeThe Cursed box cast as melee brusiers. Creep can make sure anya has energy to go ghost mode, and beast and revenent are just there to hurt people
>>98637077That's certainly one way of looking at things I guess.
>>98636908I own both. Renegade Scout is my preference, Xenos Rampant is "fine" in that "well it certainly works" sort of way.
>>98636730Wizard Eye is also very powerful, but that is on how you choose to position it, quite abusable.
>>98637078I wouldn't stress too much about it. Moonstone, and games in general, are usually less fun the more you try to optimize for competitiveness.

Lads, whats your prefered sized kind of game. AS in number of units (tough the scale is kind of importatn) mysefl its a bout a few units(2-4, 5-15 dudes), a few monsters and a few solos, 15mm would be my prefered scale.

>>98626920Community is pretty bad. Even by /40kg/ standards here.A lot of walking back has been done when the kickstarter made a fat payday. But lately Trench Crusade is just culture war grifter central. I do want to paint a warband of minis for it, but keep them in a way where they can be used for other wargames.Trench Crusade used to have a very biased janny who handed out temps and bans to even valid criticism. I think a lot of shit the Trench Crusade spots get is from anons having their "revenge" on it. I think the biased janny left because of the Sharty hack.
>>98637832I mostly stick to skirmish games (especially if I can do them 3+ players), but I don't mind something like 50/75 points of Warmachine or say 1500pts of K47 as far as game sizes go.I think large games are nice to look at, but find them an absolute drag to play.
>>98637832There is no perfect. Sometimes the intamacy of a few minis feels greatSometimes a big specical of an army feels good.28-32 is the best scale mainly because its the most common and lets me re-use minis I like15mm is only good for mass combat games
>>98637832>preferred Very much depends on the size of the engagement and the game rules but roughly>28-32mm for skirmishes, 6-12 models per side>6-10mm or chits for anything larger, moving groupings of multiple stands as one formation, 10+ formations per sideAlthough I am considering a microworld order and getting some of the 6mm skirmish packs to try and make a magnetized travel battle board for something like This Is Not A Test as a fall/winter project.
>>98627645Kanye can do it, god damn it, so can I!
There we go, mirrored the markings on the opposite side (except the little double dots, I forget what they indicate), muddied the tracks and added a crate of wine on the side, wedged in place between two sandbags and a pair of boots.Might lash it down with a tiny rope made out of a piece of cotton, as my little brother seems to think they would fall off and smash.I've got enough Quar vehicles to run a demolition derby now.It would be about as skill based as snakes and ladders using standard vehicle rules, but gunning it around a track whilst also trying to blow up opponents ahead of you could work as a novel scenario.Tank rules go as such; when you are activating a "crew activated vehicle" you declare it at turn start, and lock yourself into spending your first three actions in order; driver, gunner, then commander. If you have remaining activations these can be distributed among the crew, provided they have not already been activated twice each; the commander can activate another crew member, or spot, so a turn might go, Move tractor, spot target in front arc with gunner, officer orders gunner to fire, then I ask my opponent if I have another activation; lets say I do, so I choose to roll to have my driver gun the engine in an attempt to get out of my opponent's firing arc and spoil their chance to return fire without adjusting.
>>986378328 boys a side, 28mm, always some monsters(or like) wandering around the board. Most important, narrative tie in, I want a campaign. I love good war map then fighting small parts of battles to progress.
>>98633599Units can perform a single Move order per activation, unless they have a special rule, and they can turn freely during and at the end of the move. Tracked units get a special straight line movement order they can use in addition. Units can buy upgrades that give special movement like jump jets.If you target a unit that isn't the closest in line of sight (which is 180°) it's -1 to the damage rating of the attack.
>>98639014Is your tank in any obligation to move every single turn to simulate speed or can you go from 100 to 0 at any time?
>>98639801Naw, I believe I can pass on any unnecessary crew action, and just use up the action to move onto the next, or at least that's how we read it for the tank test game, and it played pretty well.Leftover points from a decent action deck draw of a four or a five can of course, be distributed to other units if desired, like infantry, but presumably not to another vehicle, as it is a skirmish scale game.Though perhaps a command vehicle rule could be made to bypass that. There's no momentum, maybe an effect in the "gun it" chart's failure spectrum?, maybe my book is like, in another room and I am a lazy shit, but if I wanted to make crashes from skids for a racing mini game, or god forbid "Quarkamorka", modifying the gun-it chart's failure results to include skidding, fish-tailing, or flipping over at high speeds would be neat, kinda like how hovercraft in Classic Battletech do it.Natively, the tank driver can move or spot in a small front arc, gunner can reload, fire and spot in a frontal arc, and the commander can order an extra action (one per crew per action card) or spot in a frontal or a 360 degree arc, depending on if he is buttoned up or not, and may also react to "assault" actions taken against the tank by snapfiring his weapon as a defensive action, but otherwise may not usually make return fire as a response action, even if he is directly shot at whilst unbuttoned.
Holy hell moonstone starter sets got 0 value whatsoever compared to simply buying what you want
>>98632090>Then if you don't intend to play strictly PvP you need around 75-100 miniatures to cover the BASIC encounter table of the core rulebook alone.No. You don't. It's around 35 to cover every possible result. In addition, the book explicitly tells you to roll around gaps or fill them with brewed statlines for stuff you already have. The full list of scenarios in the main book (not the encounter table) add another 15-20 models, several of which are also useful terrain pieces.
