The problem with these multi-plane stories is all the characters suck and the plot sucks, so it just sucks. Though I reckon these days plane-specific characters and stories also suck. People just got really lost in the sauce for 20 years without realizing most people can't even name a Magic card except Black Lotus. It's like Dota players expecting people to know about their game except even worse because it doesn't even have the benefit of being adjacent to League of Legends. It's basically a lifestyle game that looks impenetrable from the outside so it's easy to forget that most people know very little. Hell, even among Magic players very few people know anything about the story because it's so forgettable.
