Been rebuilding an old wargame I made around 2016 called DeadDrop, and I finally have the 2.0 Alpha ready for other people to playtest.

The original idea was basically poor man’s 40k: a wargame you can play with normal d6s, a ruler or hex grid, and literally anything as models. Coins, checkers, bottle caps, toys, actual minis, whatever.

The new version uses fistfuls of d6s.

Melee: roll dice equal to the lower of Speed or Strength.
Shooting: roll dice equal to the lower of Speed or Technology.
4+ = Hit.
Defender rolls Durability dice; 4+ = Block.

Factions are deliberately asymmetric and have extreme statlines. There are 9:

Humans, Machines, Aliens, Parasites, Insects, Reptiles, Hellspawn, Heretics, and Beyonders.

Each has its own gimmick. Machines reboot. Parasites turn enemy casualties into more Parasites. Reptiles can literally win by dying gloriously in melee. Heretics summon neutral Hellspawn that become everyone’s problem. Humans can call an airstrike on their own position when being overrun.

Armies get either 5 or 6 activations per round, regardless of how many units they have, so elite armies and hordes still get comparable table time.

Every faction also has an alternate win condition instead of just “kill everything.”

The intent is beer-and-pretzels, high asymmetry, low equipment burden, and complexity from faction interactions rather than 80 pages of rules.

Standard board is 36"x36", and 1 hex = 1 inch if using a grid.

I’m mainly looking for feedback on:

Does the combat system look fun?
Do any factions look nonfunctional or obviously busted?
Do the alternate win conditions sound interesting?
Does the activation system make sense?
Would you actually play this?

No Kickstarter, Patreon, miniatures line, etc. Just a homebrew project I’m resurrecting.

Alpha rules: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JoC-5ajUYe8BWHQUQiZGv414prJGmKtf/view?usp=sharing

If anyone actually plays it, I’d love to hear what breaks. Contact info is on page 1.

Splitting off /qst/ was a mistake. All the creative types left this board and never came back.
>>
Why do the reptiles want to die.
>>
>>98629776
the real joke is that none of them ended up on qst either

That's just the weird fag who carries /qst/ like a cross despite its creation not having much of an impact on /tg/ at all. He keeps trying to mythologize Questers as being the only people who made things on /tg/, which is not only completely false but it's also kind of insulting.
>>
>>98629815
well whether or not he's right, tg going to shit and quests being removed coincided perfectly

Not really.
Sorry to OP (though he kind of brought it on himself by titling his thread in a way that would inevitably bring the /qst/ lamenter out of the woodwork), and hopefully this post will end this derailment and things can get back to his game, but the dip we saw in 2016 when /qst/ was made actually had much more to do with the 2016 election. Almost every board except for /pol/ (which tripled in size that year) saw a similar decline in 2016, thanks to the influx of people coming to this site through /pol/ and proceeding to invade the other boards, dramatically lowering the quality of discussion by flooding them with politics. 2016 was a rough time on /tg/, but it wasn't because of /qst/. More importantly, /tg/ actually rebounded fairly quickly after the election, seeing similar population size to the years prior to 2016, up until 2021 when /tg/ began its downward trend. /tg/ was already rebounding in 2017 like most of the other boards, and I think its fair to say that a temporary site-wide event that lead to only a temporary decline in population that we could also see on other boards would be a more logical culprit.

If we had to mark pivotal moments that lead to /tg/ becoming worse, I'd say Nazimod (2010), the KEK-Election (2016), and the [Redacted] in 2021 would be the three biggest events.

>>98629815
And yet questers still have like 10 billion times more creative output than the average /tg/ retard. Art, fanart and drawquests are pretty damn frequent over there.
>>98629927
I don't know if it was the lockdown but SOMETHING happened in mid-2021 that really served as the death knell starting /tg/'s userbase decline
>>
We used to be a big board, the west. But then the what system depends on the setting subhumans came and shitted on it.
>>
>>98629927
wow, and the quality of the board falling off was also due to the election, these coincidences just abound
>>
>>98629952
nah, the decline started in 2008
>>
>>98629776
Im still here, I would just never post my work on /tg/. This board lost the mandate of heaven.
>>
>>98629970
Imagine not talking about games on the board for games.
>>
>>98630660
You don't have to imagine. You're already are that.

What about desu?
>>
>>98629776
I can't share anything I make with /tg/ because none of it is done. I can work on it for 3 months straight and then a few weekends of overtime just get me moving onto something else to deal with the stress.
>>
>>98632203
After this, I think I'm going to be in the same boat. I miss pre-2016 /tg/. We made so much fun shit.
>>
>>98629952
>Art, fanart and drawquests are pretty damn frequent over there.
oh wow, art
>>
>>98633765
Well it isn't like we have an art board anyone uses.
>>
>>98629776
The creatives who actually made shit left long before quests caught on, newfag. Quests were a completely different wave of '''''creatives''''' who were mostly bored faggots from other boards producing low effort slop and dragging their shitposting culture into /tg/ along the way.

Huh
What a curious batch of first replies
I opened this thread because of the clickbait title to say that I have been working on a loose play by post system, more roleplay just with d100 rolls as usual for things, that I was going to try on /qst/ because I want to do gm posts twice a week, and even if /tg/ allowed it, it would be too fast. But then I remembered /qst/ being full of cringe discordfag cliqueposters last I visited
But then I went on /qst/ and saw a sticky from last year adding some formatting and apparently banning the meta thread
So I might give it a try anyways
If you guys want to play as early medieval Arthurian type knights with some high and late middle ages chivalric overlay, by which I mean give high level instructions for your knight and wait a week to hear back and roleplay with traveling companions meantime, only to find out your roll was too low and be presented with some choice or other on Friday to respond to Saturday and get your conclusion Sunday, then pick a new action for the next week, check the /qst/ catalog Oct 4th or 5th for the thread

Why does every idiot revisionist push this same gay political script since 2022 or so?
4chan was never politically correct, it has been cancer since 2011, and the greatest influx of low quality posters was from the fappening. Moot deciding to offload his guilt over kids getting harassed into the general userbase resulted in him hiring a bunch of Tumblr idiots as mods once he got into "Internet culture spaces" and started carrying their luggage for a crumb of pussy. The quality hit all hobby boards never recovered from was quality posters leaving for 8ch in response to Tumblr mods power tripping especially on /v/, /sp/, and /tv/. Then when that went down due to jim's autism and feds setting it up, most of them didn't return here because it was another year before someone muzzled the rabid mods
Stop lying

/qst/ is Gay Reddit on 4Chan.

>>98629566
One reason no one makes shit on /tg/ anymore:
Theft.
the shills actually try to dredge up ideas in this board,
so they can then feed their money-bag masters.
they don't want to do the real creative work themselves.
>>
>>98634511
there are schizos who care about that but most don't, the main reason is the culture is hostile to creativity
>>
>>98634210
You will never, ever be
>>
>>98634605
They can't be the reason, I know you guys are newfags but surely you must have heard about how making any thread that wasn't 40k related used to go
>>
>>98634786
i've been here since 2007 and i stand by my claims
>>
>>98629927
What causes those spikes? I understand the downfalls due to website crashes, but why do some days have thousands of more shitpost than the rest?
>>
>>98635337
look at the number of namefags

it's other sites raiding 4chan
>>
>>98635496
Ah, now I see. And Covid era was the last hoorah of the hobby. I remember when I lurked here back in mid 2010s this place seemed lively. Nowadays it's really empty.

Bored faggots from other boards FORCED to come here because that Epstein friend moot decided to force them onto our board.
