>if you don't read the books you're a tourist because you don't know the lore
>if you do read the books you're a different kind of tourist because the lore is slop
>can't talk about it here because it's not a game
>can't talk about it on lit because lmao
What is the actual cope for this? 40k fans wouldn't just do this right? Waste exorbitant amounts of time and money on nothing? How many of them are worth reading?
>>
have you considered just stop caring about /tg/ spergs telling you how to rightly or wrongly engaging with a franchise?

>How many are worth reading?

Just accept that its all sci-fi pulp slop and read it because you want to, not because you expect quality literature.

After the first four books it takes a massive nose dive, and even those first few aren't particularly well written. After that there's a few gems sprinkled in occassionally but depends heavily which legions you enjoy reading about.

Then again, might not even want to bother reading it anyway since GW is gonna take a huge shit over it. They don't care about their own lore whatsoever.

You're not a tourist for reading the books, you're a secondary. And people who actually give a fuck about the game don't care about the HH series, so no one is going to care that you didn't read them. It seems like you've created a problem in your own head.
>>
>>98641004
Don't sweat it. It's just GW, their shills and sunk cost autists trying to get you to buy a stack of badly written adverts promoting overpriced toys.

>if you don't read the books you're a tourist because you don't know the lore
Next to nobody cares for BL library books, just Codexes in 40k
Ultimately HH is irrelevant to 40k
Fans of HH Wargame have their own equivalents of codexes and various rulebooks for lore like Black and Red Books

Black library are read by a tiny, tiny group of people. A handful of them is editing wikis. YouTubers then read those wikis and shit out their lore content. Tertiaries then listen to those YouTubers and base their lore knowledge upon this.
Most players of a wargame won't have a slightest idea what the fuck are you talking about if you start talking about BL books and events. Because they couldn't care less and people bringing up BL stories and attempting to discuss them in those 40k generals are annoying since they do not interact with tabletop games, which is what people are for in here.

PSA for anons that do follow GW threads:
This thread and the replies above are almost surely by the same 1-2 anons obssesed with shitting on Black Library, the fiction division of GW.

They're mini collectors and possibly, maybe players (years ago) extremely butthurt by being called out when they get wrong basic facts or events of 40k lore. Despite having made 40k part of their personality, they're lazy or uninterested on learning more about it. A sane person would just shrug and carry on, but they're cannot just accept it and stay in their lane of the hobby. They're mentally ill.

So for the last several years, they keep shitposting and creating slide threads like this one, with lots of lies and half thruths born out of butthurt and their defective memelore from the so-called "middlehammer" era that preceded the current 2017+ status quo of the setting. Among their elaborate mental gymnastics, they pretend there's a 40k fan hierarchy of "primaries", "secondaries", etc with them at the top, obviously.

If you've ever been part of any other fandom, you'd probably recognize the pattern. It's sadly common about a certain type of uppity nerd.

/tg/ was created as the 40k containment board; you can discuss the books here. Ignore the newfags.

The books aren't great. The lore's been taking a dive for a bit. Some of the models suck and some are great. The game's a bit rough.
It's one of those things that I'm not gonna stop someone from getting into but I also have too many models to just cut it cold turkey

you seem at least as obsessed as the purported people you're calling out

you could have made your callout sound more neutral and friendly, but i imagine you're not really interested in either of those

I think they make these threads to bait the ones like wannabe jannies who hate Warhammer threads.
See >>98641034 and >>98642214 might be the same person but personally I think wannabe janny behavior like "you missed the general" or demanding models posted only entices more people to make these slide threads. But the Warhammer 40k generals are pretty messy with autists running amok so it can be hard to tell what Warhammer threads are genuine and which are just bait for the wannabe jannies.

>>if you don't read the books you're a tourist because you don't know the lore
Horus Heresy isn't real lore, it's BL shit that's 10k years before actual 40k and 99% irrelevant.

I dunno, ask /hhg/
