It's official, Leviathans Rest is the best hope for humanity in the Battletech universe. Everyone else, by virtue of being closer to the Clanners or Houses, is more at risk of being subsumed or forced into countless wasteful wars to ever amount to anything.

With the other anon's game concluded, I would now like to continue on with the next part of my game. So this is the last call for the following characters.

Janusz Kotow 4/5, Orion ON1-VA
Obal Moriancumer 5/6, Warhammer WHM-6R
Bob Denard 4/5, Wasp WSP-1A
Vladimir Ignatyev 6/7, Wasp WSP-1A

Respond to this with some pilot rolls so I can move on with the story beats, or don't so I can write off the characters. I can easily make do with just 12 characters if need be. Also on that note, if anyone would like to have a potential new character added to the mix, let me know and I'll let you know the details of what to roll.
>>
Is the Dragon just a worse Centurion?
>>
>>98643464
I've always felt that, yeah. Mind you, I've never had the chance to use it on the tabletop, but I've played both HBS and MW5 and didn't find it enjoyable to play as in either.
>>
>>98643464
Presuming 1N vs 9-A, the Dragon is faster, better armored and heavier, therefore better at melee. The smaller autocannon does hurt, though.
>>
>>98643464
Depends on the Centurion variant and then depends on the Dragon variant but even then they're completely different style of mechs. Your average Centurion has dogshit for armor while your average Dragon is a Griffin that can't jump.

>>98643620
A man of few words, but I'll assume you saw the battle results then. Now let's check those new stats.
6 puts you into Regular territory. No modifiers this time. 2 & 2 means that your 5/6 is now... a 4/6. That is, technically an improvement. Nobody can say Obal's stats haven't improved after he missed so many shots in the first battle. He clearly put a little focus into his gunnery.
>>98643844
As nice as Obal's Warhammer is, let's not forget that it's Janusz Kotow who rolled the Orion. Janus Kotow, who is currently MIA.
I suspect that the creator's of Bob Denard and Vladimir Ignatyev may have lost interest when their guys ended up in bugmechs. Shame. I could still do stuff with them, but if not, I've got a storyline to write off the non-returners.

Painting my first BT miniatures, going Clan Hell's Horses. What kind of basing would you do on these guys? I'm thinking snow to really make the red pop but I'm open to suggestions.
Also what kind of accents would you add?
>>
>>98644400
I did a snow base for my red OCs. It does look good, but it was a bitch to color correct since my snow mix came out yellowish since it went over a pale, partially white grass. Luckily stark white paint goes on fine over white sand and already whitish sawdust.
>>
>>98644481
The ancient secret base snow is baking soda.
>>
>>98644612
doesn't that react and fuck up the base after a while?
>>
>>98644622
It's mildly basic. Acid fucks up metal and paint. Baking soda just gets crunchy and flakes after awhile if you didn't seal it right. Maybe worse if you let water get to it. Strong bases like lye are excellent paint strippers, though.

The 1N's "problem" is the tonnage spent on the engine, coupled with a anemic AC5, LRM10, and a rear ML, neither which are good at point blank range where the dragon can kick your shins off. The Grand Dragon is much better.
>>
When did 420 become the max engine size? I thought 400 was supposed to be the biggest one
>>
>>98644749
It's a Shad replacement and a superior base Shad, honestly. Stick a Quickdraw battle buddy in your Dragon lance to cover all angles, and FIGHT FOR THE HONOR OF THE DRAGON!

Charger optional for the exceptionally kickass
>>
>>98644400
>What kind of basing would you do on these guys?
Plain black.
>>
>>98644776
It is 400 in normal rules. Advanced rules go up to 500.

But the square law for weight remains in play, so they rapidly stop making sense, even in superheavies.

It started with basing fatigue. Then I asked myself what basing really added, and I couldn't think of anything. I don't like the way basing clashes with the maps. You put a mech on sand, for instance, and then play a bunch of games on grasslands. It gets even weirder if you do like a tiny diorama with vehicles or people around/under the feet.
>>
>>98644933
See but on the other hand, it looks cool as hell. 99% of the time your models will be on a shelf or otherwise not on a map, and the benefits of it looking cool outweigh the fact of it likely clashing with whatever mapsheet it's on for the other 1% of the time.

Every 'shit mech' with short range horrible weapons bla bla bla becomes evil incarnate if played realistically with double blind.

Everyone laughs at the victor until they walk their fucking timber wolf around a corner and one jumps over to unload everything into their zillionty bv and cbill omnimech's wet arse. Whereupon the victor proceeds to fist that wet anus even harder with good ol' melee. Return fire? Good luck, I'm behind c5 buildings. Please! Make more heavy rubble for us. Or as we call it, COVER.

Technically Clan Smoke Jaguar never left, they just became pirates, then Devlin Stones black-ops warcrimes hypocrisy squad, before finally hitting up Alaric by going "Yeah, you remember those Fidelis Assholes, turns out we were Smoke Jags all along."
and he was like:

Using the Chaos Campaign rules, is it intended that you freely switch between SP and C-bills? I feel like that's the intent because it means that even though higher tech lists start with more SP, Inner Sphere mechs like the Pillager and Berserker get pretty hefty discounts if bought with SP, whereas Clan and other high tech mechs will stay roughly as expensive either way.

Anyone who guessed that the wasp would be first to die of the bugs, would have been correct. Although amusingly the first to hit the ground was the Bane 7 after a particularly nasty clan firing line ripped it to shreds, only to get finished off by two hovertanks I had no opportunity to stop.
I managed to salvage both mechs, although both pilots were wounded, costing me 100SP because the Wasp pilot was a no-name
The wasps sacrifice was no mistake however, as it drew fire from my two locusts and fire moth, both locusts having taken armor damage at that point from elemental fire.

Campaign plot hooks:

>Your Dudes have been roped into a company store scheme by one of the Great Houses but a lesser noble house buys up your debt. They're buying up the contracts of as many indentured mercenaries as they can to assemble a private army to make a play for independence.
>Your Dudes are trapped on a planet where terrorists have released a deadly virus and the local House military have blockaded it to stop it spreading. The terrorists, on the other hand, claim the virus was released by accident from a government lab and they've been set up to keep the government from looking incompetent.

Has there ever been an actual phoenix hawk IIC, given how
>the 'Mech design that would later be the Phoenix Hawk IIC was originally called the Matador, and was not intended to be related in any way to the Phoenix Hawk.[21]
>>
>>98649136
That's the basics. I forget the specifics but I saw a good write up on it once. Doctrinally they see mediums as a worst of both worlds compromise unable to go as fast as a light and unable to carry as much as a heavy. But it's not that they don't use meds, they just use less of them compared to the other sucessor states. Doesn't hurt that one of their premier lights fills basically the same role a medium trooper would. And pay no attention to how their premier heavy is armed exactly like one of those medium troopers but 15 tonnes heavier
>>
>>98649137
Shad IIC 2 is pretty close. You are spoiled for choice if all you want is something to jump around and bully light mechs.

I ran my first Battletech game today, a 2v2 using my starter Griffin and Vindicator and holy shit the Griffin is so hard to space right. The vindicator fucks though.
I feel like a fool for asking but how do you keep a wasp from running up and kicking your kneecaps in with a long range brawler like that?
>>
>>98649170
Win initiative and move it last. Find a cliff that's too tall to melee across and park right next to it (ideally below, don't place yourself over an edge they can push you off of). Kick its shins out first using your much stronger legs.

>>
>>98649170
Joking aside, you outweigh the wasp by a significant amount. Any exchange where it enters melee range will be a losing exchange for it, a single kick from a griffin will literally delete its leg. wasp 1A has 5 armor and 4 structure in legs and griffin does 11 kick damage. It getting in your rear is what I assume you are actually worried about. If you can’t move out of rear jumping range then try to move your vindicator so that it can cover your griffins rear. A single PPC shot will nearly destroy any location it hits. Also it’s kinda a huge piece of shit so I’d hazard to say you can pretty much ignore it until your opponent makes a mistake and gives you melee or a low TMM shot on it.

Why is Clan Wolf the most popular clan?
>>
>>98649506
Because they're designated protagonists with more written about one in-game month of their activity than some other clans get for their entire existence.
>>
>>98649506
I don't think they actually are. However they're the protagonists of the setting.
>>
>>98649430
Bait it into terrain where it can't go fast. Woods, Rough, multi-levels, anything to get it to waste MP it needs.
And if it doesn't take the bait? Your bait is safe, and ball is in your court.
Also, melee is super effective against lights so try setting up a charge or a DFA.
>>
What's the point of gun arms anyways? Doesn't it kinda ruin half the purpose of a mech to take away perfectly functional hands able to grab things and push yourself upright?
>>
>>98649198
>>98649292
>>98649465
>>98649569
Thanks for the advice, genuinely
It was my first game and we were playing with the simplified 40th anv quick-start rules, so melee and heat management weren’t factors in play. It’s just good to know there are counters for it
>>
>>98649593
The pros v cons of hands vs gun arms fall heavily in hands' favor. It would be easier for rookies to pilot gun arms due to lack of complex manipulation but the sheer versatility of hands can't be underestimated. The scene in Mercenary's Star where the Verthandi guerillas' column is held up due to one of the mechs teetering off a cliff and the only mech with hands that can get it back up is a phoenix hawk further down the line comes to mind.
>>
>>98649666
Nothing about that in the tabletop rules. As far as I care, gun arms are better than hands because they let you put bigger guns in. There's no rules reason why all mechs shouldn't have gun arms.
>>
>>98649546
>>98649562
Well that's what happens when the original protagonists, the Grey Death Legion, get killed off. Never should have happened.
>>
>>98649683
I liked the Grey Death Legion. They were always plunky protagonists in a way that was fun and even when they did shit above their pay grade it felt less like "hurr durr dey duh best mercs evah" and more "hehe look at our fun underdogs thinking out of the box and being underestimated."
>>
>>98649593
Gun arms can flip to the back and fire both arms at something directly behind you. Hands can punch better and pick up objectives. The worst of both worlds is lower arm ending in a gun. They can't flip and they can't hand. They're slightly better at punching than things that go straight from torso to gun, but why would you when you have a big gun?
>>
>>98649676
Punch. Also objectives that need to be grabbed. But yes, for 99% of cases there's little to no reason not to ditch hands, especially with ballistic weapons that take up a ton of crit space.
>>
>>98649792
>Gun arms can flip to the back and fire both arms at something directly behind you
How is that possible? The arms have the same myomer and bones as the rest of the mech.
>>
>>98649864
It's called arm flipping, and they can do it because they don't have to worry about anchoring actual arm bits into the shoulder. Some mechs can turn their whole torso around 180° (not 360° spin, they have to go back the way they came from to look forward again), although it's expressed as a quirk rather than an intrinsic part of the core game.
>>
>>98649162

You bring an entire army of infantry when your opponent is one of those "custom optimized mech" people who insists on bringing nothing but over optimized custom mechs into a game, so out of spite you bring almost nothing but infantry and bait them into a scenario where your infantry will tear their mechs apart, because I guarantee you they didn't put any machine guns/light pulse lasers on those mechs at all. This is why when I think of a custom mech, I always try to toss on a machine gun or light X-pulse laser if I can to at least give the mech flexibility in handling this exact nightmare scenario
>>
>>98650126
If your defensive points are buildings that the enemy wants to take intact, putting infantry in them is a no-brainer even if the enemy is ready for infantry. If the buildings can be destroyed, then the infantry isn't as good, but they're still a lot better than being on the attack or out in a random woods hex with no value.
>>
>>98650050
You play a different game. Battletech is a mech game. This is like asking how to run Vampire the Masquerade without any vampires.
>>
>>98650126
Infantry isn't well designed for battletech scale and you either bring inferno missiles or thumpers and wipe them off the board in a couple turns, or you spend 12+ turns slowly picking them out of cover because almost no good weapons have the anti-infantry rule.

What infantry actually do is cost $3.50 and rape the initiative system.

Sure but let's be honest, if the military could've feasibly put those things on a tank at that time, they would've, we've seen how long it's taken the real world military to replace the aging and outdated A-10 Warthog, ain't no way the military would take a look at a vehicle to replace nearly ALL their other vehicles and sign off on it unless they were sure that the equipment in this new vehicle wouldn't just be better applied elsewhere first.
>>
>>98650290
...Which there are rules for, and people occasionally do.
>>
>>98650393
Sure, but just because you can do something doesn't mean you should, there are much better games for running conventional armies than Battletech.
>>
>>98650126
Yes, you just have to remember they are a pire defense unit. Field guns are good generally and you want a plan going in on how you are going to use your foot infantry. I have had success taking SRM/LRM platoons in vehicles that have a random infantry bay, they defend the vehicle when it gets it's movement crit out. Most players don't want to deal with finishing them off.
>>
>>98650394
And maybe some players happen to be familiar with BT and don't want to learn new rules just for one game.
>>
>>98650394
And you know what, Herb, I want to add: "BattleTech is a game about 'Mechs" doesn't mean that people need to heavy-handedly make sure that players don't try to play in other ways. If 95% of games involve primarily 'Mechs, and 'Mechs are in general the strongest units, then that's fine.

For all the bitching about WarShips, there are combat DropShips that can take on a whole lance by themselves, just grounded, and the subcapital weapons introduced for Pocket WarShips can also fire orbit-to-surface, so orbital bombardment still fucking exists.
>>
>>98650488
I have a strong suspicion that the actual thing the writers didn't like about warships is people keeping track of how many individual units each faction had.
>>
>>98650504
what? why would the writers care about fans quietly pointing out the .... you know, whole space navy a certain faction had at the time that had to go on a space navy special vacation so that the invading army with ITS spacenavy (an ship or two) could MWUH HA HA HA HA! through the factionand do massive damage, all because the writers couldn't be aresd to do their research properly.

no! don't be silly! why would the writers not like Warships because of that?

having to actually keep track of a factions polity strategic force projection assets seems like LAME NERD SHIT only someone with... a semif-unctioning brain at minimum would care about.

next you'll say writers should care about canon etc. or some other CUH RAY ZEE nonsense.
>>
Personally I don't see any issue with running a purely conventional game, it'd be a neat peak at how warfare would go in most of the Periphery and the less important IS states.

My main issue with conventional tanks and Infantry in general is they feel like they got the opposite treatment to units like LAMs and ASF. Tanks and Infantry started off as basically fodder before people on OF whined about how hard tanks get fucked by Battlemechs, and I think they've been buffed up to a bad degree and it runs counter to the core premise of the game.

So yes, you should be able to run whatever you want, but conventional units like CVs and infantry need a rule change in general to better present why Mechs are objectively superior in combat.
>>
>>98650050
>What would you guys run if you had a campaign where you couldn't run mechs
I would ask how anyone managed to wipe out the Locust, considering the succession wars couldn't even pull off that trick.
If you want to run "no good mechs" just play in the periphery where everyone is strapping rockets onto their mechs after they get their weapons blown off.
>>
>>98650660
>Tanks and Infantry started off as basically fodder before people on OF whined about how hard tanks get fucked by Battlemechs,

I would run about 30 guys into a mech hanger and steal a mech at gunpoint.

>>
>>98649162

The shrike was the only good design to come out of the dark ages.
>>
>>98650665
I don't know about tanks, but as recently as BMRr, infantry took full damage, and double damage in the open. A PPC firing at a platoon in the open almost wiped it.
In return though, infantry damage was fixed at their maximum for the number of surviving men, and did damage in groups of 5 instead of 2. But the maximum was lower than it is now for similar weapons, a full strength rifle platoon did something like 7 with every hit and now they can do 11 if they roll high on the cluster.
>>
>>98650742
All those designs with a single small laser for anti-infantry work make a lot more sense when that single small laser can reap 3 dudes in cover and 6 dudes in the open. That's a whole squad of commandos desperately trying to sachel charge your knees before their big units crest the hill.
Under the oldest rules, that small laser would destroy an entire infantry unit, because they can only take one hit of any sort. Which is maybe a little too squishy.

Giant Horse Cock Cannon. That'd fix it. Better than the silly hip guns. Or at least give it some fucking eye beams.
Really though Hells Horses need to just give up on their stupid horse quads as only hard-shell creature ones don't look totally silly, and just make their totem mech look like Thirty/Thirty from Bravestarr so it's just a big angry horse-man with a gun instead of a toy horse with guns strapped to it.

They would make more sense if they were less bespoke. The entire history of them was that the scientists were cooking up a new unit type in secret and then there was a desperate need for more fighting units so they got greenlight and mass produced, but if the situation is that desperate, then maybe instead of purpose built special units, they combined their new piloting scheme that doesn't require nearly as much equipment in the mech (the cockpit can just be a coffin with a data hookup, don't need a gyro, etc) with omnimech technology to make up any gaps. A protomech should be like a skeletonized Fire Moth. Don't even need a head, rip it off. Replace that gyro with the pilot. Arms? Decadent waste, save them for a normal mech. Weapons? What's left in the pile?
They should be made of leftovers and scraps and use the combination of EI and omni-tech to fill gaps in capability that would leave a normal mech on its ass.

they had to stage a trial of possession for the metals used in the statue, the laborers talented enough to actually make one (since making statues is un-Jaguarlike), the merchant-class artisan to design it (since the Jaguars shot all their merchants), and the first stage trials for the extra mechs to stage the later trials since their factories were struggling to meet OZ demands

so just to build that statue was easily a dozen smaller trials that cost the lives of a couple binaries of warriors from five different clans

>What's the meta like when people are trying to win?

You’ll see lots of stuff like iJJ tarcomp pulse boats, energy zombies, etc. anything that the BV system doesn’t really track adequately. Specific picks are probably more dependent on personal preference at that point, there are a LOT of mechs that can do jumping pulse spam. I would resist the urge to bring these at all, or at the very least limit it to one unit in your force.

To not get dumpstered though, you just need to figure out how to identify what makes a dogshit mech and then just *don’t* pick those mechs. Stuff that’s way too explosive, stuff that’s using MASC to go 5/8[10], stuff that’s got no clear game plan or weapons with conflicting range bands (fucking Shadow Hawk), stuff that’s super expensive but also fragile (Hellbringer/Loki). Everything else you can learn by doing, even if it’s just through Megamek just to get some reps in.

Also you should be playing games you'll enjoy even if the 2D6 fuck you over.

>>
>>98657264
>stuff that’s using MASC to go 5/8[10]
... wait what's wrong with that
>>
>>98657523
The BV formula will tax you for being able to hit a +4 TMM for moving 10 hexes since you can technically do that with MASC on. However, you can *only* get this when using MASC, moving in a straight line for your full movement, and without changing elevation, and even then you can’t get it every turn, because if you try then your legs will explode. The situations you can manage that are vanishingly slim, so you just pay more BV for a TMM you can’t ever reach.
>>
>>98657523
NTA, but you're only getting 2 more movement, and while it might push you over a TMM threshold if you have to make some turns and stop in the open, it's a lot less likely to than movement profiles which get you 3+ extra movement. A 6/9(12) or 7/11(14) just get a lot more out of it for the risk of critting yourself.
That said, a couple of games ago I redlined a Jade Hawk by constantly triggering the supercharger while my TSM was going back and forth from 5/8(10) to 6/9(12) and it worked out.
>>
>>98657348

>>
>>98656405

Their initial khans were complete opposites, they were the last Clan to be certified ready for Klondike, and they spent a lot of the early Clan days weak and puny.

Obviously they succeeded, but they did it through politics and opportunism, which are not ways that Nicky imagined were paths to success.
>>
>>98657862
Would you prefer a counter? Honest question.
>>
>>98656334
>>98656216
Nicky was probably going even further than that; the whole clan setup basically points to a Highlander situation with him ideally wanting everything to end up under his pet Wolves and then probably invade the Inner Sphere (but well, Large Laser to the face stopped that).

So what happened with the Clan Homeworlds situation with it boiling down to just a few clans in a quest for 'purity' was inevitable (and behind the scenes, not that CGL has any intention on touching it, but I would fully imagine they didn't stop when the focus was taken off them and would have well just kept going down to one to then to a fucking apocalyptic shit mess of their own as that one then fell apart because that's just how their core ideology works when left to itself).
>>
>>98654760

>>
>>98658138

>>
>>98658041
No, but I would prefer a standee with ore accurate art. It's not the end of the world either way, but its annoying when a model clearly has a single giant gun and then someone is all "actually this is the 8 medium laser variant".
>>
>>98658295
You mean the HBK variant that changes how you fight it the least?
>>
>>98653982
You could bring LRM carriers, yeah, should've mentioned them, too.. You do have stuff to spot for indirect fire, at least.

You could also split the difference for your city units and make them Strikers.
>>
>>98657237
The main reason to carry a flamer and not an SRM pack is mostly just fluff nowadays: MechWarriors are scared of the infernos blowing up, and you have a high chance of getting fragged if you use infernos and your mech is disabled or you eject.

There are situations where you only have one ton to spare and pulse lasers don't exist yet, though. Then I just pop in a flamer.

The correct answer is to get CGL to stop making variants of standard Mechs that essentially treat them like OmniMechs where everything and anything is 100% swappable. Not as a formal MW5-style hard point system, mind, but simply as a *guideline* for internal Mech design. A Mech should almost always be generally recognized as what it is by its loadout and weapons layout. Combine that guideline with editorial control and review of designs before they make it to print, and the problem is solved without having to create new formal design rules that min-maxers will immediately and inevitably find ways to abuse anyway.

To avoid the Crusader 8S, almost any step is reasonable, but it should be undertaken with foresight and tact, not with a sledgehammer.
>>
>>98658489
>To avoid the Crusader 8S
I've driven that thing twice and it's both more hilarious and worse than the Jagermech DG. Also, nothing like a Crud should be. I get you.
>>
>>98658507
Forgot to mention. That shitheap of close combat and no armor actually has an IWM model.
>>
>>98658507
It’s hilarious to me that this mech is capable of killing itself in its own shooting phase. Assuming the Heavy Gauss knocks it on its ass, it could take all 7 damage to the right rear torso (which only has 6 armor) and crit the gauss to explode the mech the rest of the way. Unlikely, but entirely possible.
>>
>>98658489
That's been a problem since FASA, so good luck with that.
>>
>>98657042
Bring something that doesn't mind going first, bring about 1 8+ damage weapon per 1000BV and bring some crit seeking weapons like SRMs or LBXs to exploit the holes. As long as you keep those guidelines in mind bring the mecha you like.
>>
>>98658489
The customization rules in Campaign Ops do make it harder to replace one type of weapon with a completely different one (i.e. it's easier to replace a LRM15 with a SRM or a different size or LRM than with a laser or an autocannon) or to add a new weapon, which is probably something you should take into account when making variants. Doing something like replacing one autocannon with a PPC is still relatively simple, but replacing every weapon on a mech with a different type of weapon would be a lot of extra work over modifying a mech that already had the right type of weapons.
There's also the somewhat nebulous concept of the "feel" of a mech. Like replacing the Marauder's autocannon with a large laser or a PPC doesn't make the mech not feel like a Marauder, since having a big dorsal gun is more integral to the identity of the Marauder than the exact type of gun it has. But if you replaced it with a LRM, it would feel off. Those kinds of more radical departures from the standard identity of the mech usually only work if they end up becoming a distinct sub-family of designs. Like if the Katapult was just a one-off weirdo it would feel off, but since it's gotten multiple upgrades of its own over the years it feels like its own distinct line of Catapults that are different from the stock one but have their own identity. Meanwhile that one Catapult with plasma rifles does just feel off.
>>
>>98657042
Ignoring sweaty stuff like IJJ CLPL targeting computer mechs the main thing that's really bad are all AC/2 variants (excepting perhaps light AC/2s), regular AC/5s, HVAC/5s, and HVAC/10s. Beyond that in general you only want ballistic weapons in heavier mechs when you start running out of space and engine heat sinks because ballistic weapons both rely on explosive ammo or can explode themselves, have limited ammo, and tend to take up more space and weight than energy weapons. Of course when you reach the point of being heat neutral and run out of engine sinks an ERPPC takes up 18 crit space and 15 tons to be heat neutral while a gauss rifle 8 crit space and 13 tons to be heat neutral.

>main thing that's really bad are all AC/2 variants (excepting perhaps light AC/2s), regular AC/5s
BOO!!!
>>
>>98659043
AC/2s are good in Mechwarrior, not Battletech. Even then they're only good when you're quadwielding them.
>>
>>98659077
AC/2's are godly for pilboxing tanks and dropping VTOL's from the sky. A lot of weapons only really come into their own when you have all unit types on the field.

The Vulcan 2T is a particularly delectable warcrime wagon in the right environment, but considered absolute trash in a pure mech fight.

what did the Black Dragon Society want?

to destroy the Combine?
>>
>>98659183
They wanted Teddy to not act retarded.

>Hey, this new army and tactic stuff works. Depose your father and become the Dragon!
>No.
>Fuck. But, the Hogs that stayed loyal to you after 3034 will get rewarded for our obedience, right?
>No. I'm putting my slut 5P ninja wife in charge of that.
>Well, you'll at least try to take back some of our territory in the 2nd SL?
>Hogs? Fuck you.

In the DA/ilClan it's:
>So, is the Dragon actually gonna take advantage of the Blackout to expand the realm?
>No. The Dracs are honorable Stoner cocksuckers. Have you seen the new Spider?
>But then everyone else will move in.
>Too bad. Here's your heir that has genetic issues and dies trying to breach the Wall.
>Okay, time to replace this fucker with the Sakamoto whore.

A retvrn to traditional drac values
i.e No teddy reforms, no mercenaries, no forced nova cat integrations
>>
>>98659239
but didn't they oppose the reforms?
>>
>>98659262
Not until Teddy refused to ascend the throne. They swapped back to the old ways after Teddy fucked them and had the obvious ones killed as traitors at the end of the War of 3039.
>>
>>98659274
I can kinda see why he opposed them then.

They had no integrity and clearly just wanted to ride his coattails into power. They're unreliable graspers, no wonder he killed them.
>>
>>98659293
It's old school fuedal politics. When someone supports you, they expect a reward. Denying them that breaks the contract. Teddy was too retarded to understand that. He was acting like he was prince of the Suns or some shit.
>>
>>98659183
To never change anything ever. The coordinator should have absolute authority, but never use that authority to alter the combine or how it works.
>>
>>98659100
>AC/2's are godly for pilboxing tanks and dropping VTOL's from the sky.
You're saying that like there aren't a million weapons which can accomplish the same thing for less weight while being more generally useful. Also I'd say that for beginners calling AC/2s trash is fine advice. Most beginners aren't going to jump in with tanks, infantry, and aircraft and tac ops rules.

Duty is its own reward, these weren't Ghost regiments where such an expectation is part and parcel with the terms of their accord. Teddy acted as was proper, they were too retarded to see that acting like gangsters was a path to disgrace.

An AC/2 does as much damage as a MG but has tremendously range and weights 6.5 tons more than it. Is it worth it? No! So let's theory craft for a moment.
I like to compare every weapon to the Medium Laser, like every other Battletech player. So the AC/2 has range and heat over the ML, but looses out on damage, weight, and ammo. We're not going to mess with the damage, because it wouldn't be an AC/2 if it didn't do 2 damage and it has to have ammo because otherwise it's not an AC. So we have to change its weight.
Let's say at some point in a later era, a reduced weight AC/2 gets made. We can call it the RWAC/2. How much lighter does it need to be to suddenly be worthwhile? To become too powerful?
You are here >6 tons
>5 tons
>4 tons
>3 tons
>2 tons
>1 ton
5 tons feels like it wouldn't make a meaningful change at all. On the other side, 1 ton feels too good. That would mean a single AC/2 would weigh as much as 2 MGs. So those two options are out.
4 tons; we've made it so the RWAC/2 isn't painful, but I think it would still be viewed as very mediocre. When compared to a LL, it's got better range and heat, but doesn't do anywhere close to comparable damage.
3 tons; now we're talking. Feels like it's now something to just honestly consider, but not ripe for abuse.
2 tons; I'm thinking this might be going too far. Feels like such extreme range shouldn't come that cheap.

There is a reduced weight it's called the LAC or light auto cannon.
Yes it loses some range but also it can load any kind of ammo unlike an LB or ultra.
>>
>>98659721
The new art is mostly better, but I still feel like the arms on most Clan mechs look kind of awkward. Still lots of weird angles and/or being so tiny you wonder why they bother having arms at all instead of going full Rifleman like some of the newer Madcats did.
>>
>>98659736
I love how the Japanese know how to scale mechs properly, fucking PGI/CGL makes most mechs nearly x3/4 times the size they should be, for fucks sake you can park multiple vehicles into most assault mech cockpits.

nta but I'd get it if Teddy was still politically opposed to his father, but after 3039 Takashi pretty much sat back and gave Teddy control to modernize the Combine, ascending the throne through force really wasn't necessary.
I do agree he fucked up with FRR though, the Ronin Wars were a waste of time and resources only made up by Comstar's blatant bribe of mechs.
Teddy could've tried to ease tensions by pulling BDs to the side and telling them the FRR was ultimately just a temporary measure.
The Separatist Hogs weren't even really the majority of the region, it took wiping out the Ronin, propping up Kungarme hard, and grooming the right nobility, and then a GB takeover to turn it into a functioning state without Dracs carrying them.

>>

I wouldn't do it with clanners, but that's an idea I've thought about a lot. I would have the player be a solo merc on a shitty near periphery world fracturing under the weight of a strongman/pirate "government" and IS corpo-spook interests. I would make it a lot less about grinding your way up to a hangar full of mad cats and king crabs and more about the unfolding events and what you're going to do about them.

Guys who worked on the MUL, I know you lurk here. We all know it. Now listen, the new MUL is great. I'm actually really enjoy its loadout. But please do some proofreading and learn what a century is.
We do not have a turn of the century in the middle of a century. Likewise we do not have a century coming to a close at the start of the century.

Access to Hammerspace is an Omnitech perk
>>
>>98660084
Hammerspace was actually one of the very few star league technologies that didn't become lostech
>>
>>98660092
All you have to do is divide by the negative cubed root of a star league ton and dimensional math stops being a problem. That's why everything is measured in tons and not volume. It doesn't matter if a space is square or rectangular or a thin little tube. The only part that matters is what star league math says it is.
>>
>>98660092
You can see the inside of the AC20 is actually a beehive of very small barrels. It's a rapid fire micro munition type of AC.
>>
>>98660107
Fuck the volume, how the fuck does ammo go from component to component, they must have a ultra compact kf drive in every mech.

What is with those outposts at the extreme ends of the known universe? Scientific research enclaves? Extremely alien biomes being studied and documented? Military listening posts who listen for outdated data?

So.e of them look to be at least a year out of the Inner Sphere, and I doubt they have the resources and minds the Clans took with them in the Exodus.
>>
>>98660229
A lot of them were one offs for extreme deep space expeditions that never bothered to clean up their mess. Some are extreme isolationists or very paranoid refugees who just picked a direction and went until they couldn't go no more. Some were founded by control freak cult leader types who really didn't want "the government" (whoever that may be at any given moment) from interrupting their ascent to god-kinghood.
