How do you handle max level characters that can’t lose to anything
>>98646431Retire, start new campaign. Players roll up new characters that are their grandkids.
>>98646431I like this guy's stuff but I prefer Wigglewood. The meth smoking orc guy is alright, too.
>>98646462>The meth smoking orc guyThe manwhore?
>>98646499No, the one who has the interpretative dancing gnome companion he doesn't want around.
>>98646431His robe is literally just his bigass beard
>>98646431Games stop being fun well before max level. So no one ever gets there or wants to get there. If anyone even reaches max level it's just the GM having fun for the finale by giving the players a big power up before a big fight after which the only logical character progression would be the party obtaining godhood. It's not like a videogame where you reaching max level means you can wander into mid level quests and things and just erase everything in your path.
>>98646431I know these cartoons are reddit but I generally enjoy them.
>>98646520Man reddit isn't even "reddit" anymore. People here gotta retire that meme.
>>98646431PCs can ALWAYS lose via GM fiat. Rocks fall, divine intervention, Very Very Large Hadron Collider succeeded at making life-ending black hole, Cthulhu wakes, PCs are assassinated by their trusted loved ones, etc.It just won't be satisfying. When a game isn't satisfying, it's time to end it and look for another one.
>>98646520They're too violent against women for that.
>>98646499https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljjaxMNfm-g
>>98646431No such thing.
>>98646526Reddit isn't really what people here think it is (A bunch of blue-haired sjw caricatures being offended of everything) But there is quite a bit of tumbler/twitter culture filtered through a more millennial lens and this is literally what this show is.>>98646559Unironically look at the newest set of leftoids in the us, they are like pretty fit muslims and white people.
>>98646431The clandestine organization takes his genetic samples and creates 8 clones of him in order to control tne future of warfare.
>>98646518>levelsyikes!
>>98646431It's easy. You don't.
>>98646576Violence and gross out humor of this type predates reddit even existing.
>>98646520The writting have more of newgrounds feel
>>98646431>that can’t lose to anythingNot even to two other max level characters?
>>98646431Start with a bunch of neutronium golems and go up in powerlevel from there.
Level 1 to 5 is local dungeon crawling. You basically explore dungeons within three hexes of the starting hex.Level 6 is hex-crawling in addition to full dungeon crawling.Level 10 is Domain play. You are now in charge of a region and faction. You still explore and go on journeys, but a large portion of the game is taking care of your settlement/county/kingdom.Level 20 is Epic Level, you now deal directly with gods and get involved in shenanigans far beyond what was possible when you started adventuring.Level 30 is still Epic Level, but now you're regularly getting involved in interstellar exploration and mapping out the planes of existence. By this point you likely have a starship/Voidship/Spelljammer and a crew, perhaps even a fleet of ships.Level 40 you are graced by the divine. You are an immortal, a demigod, or an outright god. You now meddle directly in the affairs of gods and control your own plane or demiplane of existence. This is where you start secretly devising plans to siege heaven or hell. Powerful spiritual influence allows you to create avatars of yourself to send on missions in your stead.Level 120 you are now on-par with one of the greater gods. You have the ability to create whole universes. You can also create fragmented reincarnations of yourself that start at level 1 and go on adventures of their own. Every time one of these achieves level 40, it lets you advance in "Tier" of ascension in godhood.Tier +1 provides you with a new divine ability that you didn't have before.Tier VII means you can attempt to become an elder god. This usually involves some trial or achievement to be accrued.Upon Achieving elder godhood, your motives and goals are no longer comprehensible to humans. Your every action and movement accidentally creates whole universes and creates ripples across the planes. Most elder gods rest for eternities due to all the stuff that took 'em to get here. But some busy themselves with taming the edges of the Far Realm.
>>98646576the thing that irks me is you're right, but you're also years out of date, and so much has changed in general that reddit isn't even that anymore. It's not really anything grounded. All its character has been eroded away. you can't really pin it as a place for any stereotypes.
>>98646581I'm not even sure you know what you're trying to meme here.
>>98646946Simple: anything bad is automatically reddit.
>>98646850I guess I should also note that each of these tiers of play comes with it's own sort of secondary objective. At any point where the main objective of simply progressing your XP bar gets annoying:1: Character funnel. Make a stable of characters and see who survives.6: Megadungeon Exploration. I have one huge dungeon that never ends that you can explore endlessly and connects to other megadungeons.10: Wargaming. Actually play out all the huge battles that are taking place. Also the domain play comes with a weekly mini-game to try and keep your serfs happy/pacified and your base looking/feeling cool. There are also these "Super-bosses" I've hidden in the world called Elder Evils, They require lots and lots of resources to even find, let alone the full scale battles you have to have to beat them.20: A lot opens here! Greater magic item creation opens up, using these things called "The Well of Sin" that allow you to create very specific, powerful magic items. Around level 20 is also where I sprinkle in these hidden pieces of a shifting map that creates temporary demi-planes, each map adds or subtracts a different "Tag" from the demi-plane, so that players can piece the map together to make customized dungeons that allow them to seek out customized treasure or objectives. (Need a new flaming sword? Let's use the fire, forge, giant, and evil fragments to go search for one!) The Megadungeon I mentioned back at lvl 6 also opens up with this specific puzzle that has proliferating rewards as you progress deeper.30: Ship/fleet management. Simulating full-scale starship battles.40: A specific challenge I've borrowed from the Everquest TTRPG where you do delves into the plane of shadow. These take lots of resources and effort, and your character is constantly under an oppressive aura that damages them. So you're trying to get in and out. Ends with a huge battle where you're fighting multiple massive gods and their strongest champions
>>98647084Continued:120: Akashic Archive and Ur-Nirvana. If you somehow dig beneath the planes, you find this "place" called the Akashic Archive that allows you to alter things that have already come to pass. It's very dangerous and full of the strongest beings I could find in any RPG books, (Nuetronean Golems, Apocalypse elementals, Tarrasques, Turbo-liches.) Basically, this is the control panel that gods use to alter existence.Tiers of Ascension: Sub-campaigns where the characters actions effect you. Players now play champions of their other characters that go forth and fight/adventure in their name.Elder Godhood: Players now write their own whole campaigns that we all play in and the actions of results in that campaign can now effect the events in my campaign. Meta-events from outside the game can now effect the game. That being said, getting a character to level 120 should take about 40 years of weekly games. So we have a little while to go, still.
>>98647050It's like complaining about how overly sweet the tea is, but it's just plain water. They stopped adding sugar a decade ago. They stopped adding leaves a few years ago. They never bothered boiling it.
>>98646431I started to dislike these cartoons, because they were too self-referential, especially with that season finale. But now I like them again, because that Japanese Episode was too high quality to not appreciate.
>>98646431You just lose
>>98646431You mean DMPCs? I presume you're talking about DMPCs because that's the only way that even happens. you have to be the DM for that to even be the case.the way you deal with it is out of game; talking to your DM like a group of adults. If that fails, you can choose to start your own game, with Blackjack and Hookers.
>>98646518>funAnd how do you know about how literally everyone ever feels about every single game ever?>video gamesOh, you're that retard. Never mind.
>>98646510An absolute nudemaxxing legend.
>>98646431Make him an amusement enjoyer
>>98646520>>98646526The reddit insult never worked. The notion that 4chan is somehow better than reddit is laughable---especially now. It's just more of that dumb, made up "rules", elitism type shit.Like reddit spacing. Formatting my posts so it's easily read, is bad in some way? Why? The people that try to enforce it look like fools. It's like they want you to feel like a dipshit for being nice, or enjoying something whimsical or unserious. They don't like it? Oh well---they can't make you leave, and they can't stop you from liking something silly. They can bellyache about it on here, but that's about it.Don't let fools that use this place tell you how to act, or what to like. There is a time and place for keeping up social expectations, but 4chan isn't one of them.
>>98648554reddit spacing was a /v/ I swear, that /v/ tourists kept trying to enforce on other boards. Which outed them as tourists on this one. On /v/ they make short one line shitposts or short greentext shitposts. Nothing else. If you type more than a paragraph on /v/ you've already failed to fit in. But they come over here where people write multi page rants about space marine lore or polearms, or firearms in fantasy, or excessive world building posts, and they try to call out what they see as reddit behavior on people who have been on this board longer than that meme has been around.
>>98646431I stop playing games they can exist in.
>>98649108I never spent time on /v/. I've noticed the behavior doesn't show up on this board nearly as much as it does on /tv/. I used to spend a majority of my time on 4chan, on /tv/; but now it's nearly unusable. Nothing but culture war psyop shit. I've noticed that the more niche the board, the less it has to wrestle with bots, or bad actors./tg/ has it's share of dummies who seem to care about "reddit spacing" or seethe about trannies 24/7 but I can't honestly claim those are real people---I know life is at times stranger than fiction, but a normal, mostly autonomous person doesn't act like that. So I have to assume they're a bot sowing discourse, or... something.
>>98646518>This is what 5e faggots actually believe.Play OSR instead.
I know how you feel OP. I've been running Savage Worlds up to post-Legendary tier and now I have to craft stuff specifically to challenge them. And if I'm being honest, it kind of sucks. There are only a couple types of attacks that even work on them now, so most encounters are a group of enemies with those specific attacks, and then a couple dozen normal enemy warriors to serve as filler. It sucks because the campaign has now become about making enemies that can challenge the PCs, instead of cool enemies. Any combat that isn't against such enemies is usually a complete waste of time, because it's a foregone conclusion they will win. And on the rare occasion a character catches a stray, it comes out of nowhere, because it requires some insane high damage roll with exploding dice. It's kind of a shame, because they are only around halfway through the story, I would guess. Maybe a bit more. There are so many things left they need to do, and they are already at 100+ XP level. >just start overI really can't because we're in the middle of the story>just rocks fall everyone dies like le epic gigachad DM who makes everything upNo, because that's retarded, and I'm attached to this storyline and characters.
>>98649108>>98648554The spacing works like this:>you have to use two line breaks when you write a reddit post because single line breaks are ignored by the website >so this paragraph with quote arrows would be shown as one continuous line>you need to press enter twice like this line to have the line break appear>if someone's a redditor used to this then they will write short paragraphs that are spaced for no reason >and when they post on 4chan their posts will be spaced in the way other posts won't >of course if there is a non-spaced line break like this one, that's obviously not reddit spacing, just the poster's fancy of using spaced out breaks for ease of reading >but people started parroting it as an insult and it quickly degenerated as all insults do
>>98646431Depends on the players. Some like using the skills, wealth, vonnections and abilities their characters workd at gaining, travelling the world as princes and building/destroying empires. Others don't, they want the struggle. Find what you and your fellow players want and go with that.
Sometimes it’s just fun to have super powerful people in the background. Not sure why everyone insists on being able to kill literally anything and everything.
>>98646462I fucking love wigglewood

>>98649910>Old School D&D is fun at max levelThis is what grogs actually believe. Play GURPS instead.
>>98650482It's not like no one knew that. The people screaming about reddit spacing were always quick to explain to us, the apparent redditors, how reddit works and why double line breaks were a reddit thing. But what was always retarded is that they would ignore how 4chan works, and how literally all of the internet outside of reddit also does double line breaks because it's easier to read visually. It also wasn't even a thing reddit always had, I'm pretty sure they added that function to theoretically make it easier for people to format shit, even though that's retarded. It's such a retarded function for a website. But it's not as retarded as kids not knowing literally everyone on the internet likes spaces between their paragraphs.
>>98649910>this is a unique problem to 5eyeah nice try nogame retad.
>>98654268No one except the profoundly stupid had issues with spaces between paragraphs. That's not what that complaint was ever about (except from the aforementioned profoundly stupid and/or trolls).
>>98648554>The reddit insult never worked. The notion that 4chan is somehow better than reddit is laughableThe mere fact that this site doesn't have an upvote system and is anonymous makes it leagues better, and anyone who can't see that is retarded, or is a salty crossposter being deliberately obtuse.
>>98646575/thread.
I LOVE SEXUALOBSTER.
>>98654342That's a matter of opinion, and what the individual user values. I'm saying the reddit insult used on 4chan is laughable. Pot and kettle etc. etc.
>>98654296that's what it was always about. Whatever the specifics of the origins is just to justify it after the fact, but the majority, as in nearly all of them, were just complaining about paragraphs having double spacing ever.I think thinking otherwise is falling for a mote and bailey.
