the cash in is now you mean.
keyforge players have been playing online for 6 or 7 years now. GG just made the decision that it's better to nuke that and build a new one they can get slice of.
Disney will get away with it, their fans never miss a chance to spend more money, but it really might fucking backfire hard on GG.

It's a core mechanic in the game I play so of course I'd have to enjoy it. Some decks promote doing it a lot, some bully the opponent for collabing, and there are even effects that force collabs in for double kills.

I know I'm being Cheeky since Holo doesn't have any actual collaborations so far but I'd be cool with some sort of collab if it's from companies already close with cover like Sega and it's just cosplay. Getting crossover characters wholesale would feel icky since we're only just gave every active Holomem an Oshi and there's a new group of girls on the way.

at the moment, I currently have:
Green/Purple Zeon/Neo Zeon
Monoblue League Militaire
White/Blue EW stuff
the Red/Blue burn list
Purple/White Tekkadan (old, gonna strip down)
White/Green Wing (old, likely gonna strip)
Red/Purple Zaft/Minerva team

my LGS is pretty casual so we just play whatever, although there's a constructed event in October so I might be best playing something tryhard for it.

>The name is a reference to Gulliver's travels
Exactly. Gulliver travels to various lands and gives his account of the strange inhabitants. Gulliver does travel to the places by sea, but sailing isn't the main focus of the book, the places and their inhabitants are. So, I would assume we are getting a similar showcase of the realm and its factions So I think we'll get cards related to the factions, and maybe have some cards relating to seafaring, but they won't be the main theme of the set.

Well, the place I go to doesn't 'officially' do coconut, either, it's just that we have some regulars that show up each week, and a few of them suggested trying it the following week, so then we all showed up with a coconut deck. The guy who was most excited about it even brought multiple decks in case anyone there showed up without. Enthusiasm over official organization, I guess, but it turned out to be a great time. Now all the regulars carry a backup coconut deck or two in case we decide to do it again, but it hasn't happened yet, mostly due to a few big tournaments in the area disrupting normal attendance.

For what it's setting out to do, it's very tight and has no hard edges. The play experience is pretty smooth with approachable mechanics but not railroaded decision trees like most other simplified game. The emerging leaders, split across three cards instead of one, adds a bit of suspense to the game that makes your opponent guess what you're bringing to the fight and also not have too consistent of openings to make it auto play out like say Yugioh. Chiefly the dice mechanics are what make this look and feel like a different game than its competitors. The gigs are abstract, but there's design language in the card effects that make it seem like even numbered gigs are morally good while odd is morally bad; pretty simplistic but it avoids them printing inane DO BAD THING, DO GOOD THING on card text. There scope is heavily constricted to just what is in the cyberpunk video game, because they chose to have this set feature 77 and all its cast of characters, because of that there's a substantially low amount of archetypes fleshed out such as Nomads or Rockers, but because they've been sprinkled in there for spice it stands to reason they will be making sets to highlight them down the road.

Overall I get the same good vibes playing this that I did with Star Wars Unlimited at the very very beginning. That game was ripe with potential, and the mechanics were clean and easy to follow just the same, but FFG are FUCKING RETARDS and ruined a good thing as time went on. I sincerely hope that WEIRDCO doesn't suffer the same design fuckups, but considering they don't have disney shouting in their ear to push more garbage and screw complexity, I think they have a pretty good shot at launching a great new game.

Because it’s MTG but worse. No blockers in hand going second? GG you lost. Calling a legend between 3 random cards is retarded. The street cred dice aren’t relevant in most games but can absolutely fuck you up in the games it matters.
Really that game is just scalper hype the gameplay is shit. If they wanted to make a good game they would’ve made a Netrunner like instead of generic 1v1 board/card advantage game #1000.
>>
>>98672964
>Because it’s MTG but worse.
It plays nothing like magic. No lands go in deck. Some cards can be shredded for eddies, but you get them from tapping your legend too. Magic is a life point bashing game, there are no lifepoints in cyberpunk. The parallels are CREATURES, INSTANTS, EQUIPMENT, TAPPING SIDEWAYS and that's really all.
> No blockers in hand going second? GG you lost.
That's quite effectually a skill issue, not a fault of the mechanics.
>Calling a legend between 3 random cards is retarded.
Sounds like you don't like game variance or hidden information.
>The street cred dice aren’t relevant in most games but can absolutely fuck you up in the games it matters.
So in other words, it is important.
>Really that game is just scalper hype the gameplay is shit.
As contrarian as ever, I see.
>made a Netrunner like instead of generic 1v1 board/card advantage game #1000.
You know they don't have a single thing to do with netrunner, right? They're not WOTC, or FFG, they are doing their own thing that is inspired by the both the traditional and video game. Not everything has to be like its predecessors in the genre.
>>
>>98673009
>It plays nothing like magic.
It does though
>skill issue
Yeah randomness is a skill lol
>Sounds like you don't like game variance or hidden information.
It’s a card game it already has variance no need to add some with retarded mechanics. Nigga I said that if they wanted to make a good game they should’ve remake Netrunner and that game is all about hidden informations
>So in other words, it is important.
In 1 out of 10 games. Great
>As contrarian as ever, I see.
??? The sample is low but the players I know thought the game is mid at best
>You know they don't have a single thing to do with netrunner, right? They're not WOTC, or FFG, they are doing their own thing that is inspired by the both the traditional and video game. Not everything has to be like its predecessors in the genre.
Okay? Cyberpunk and Netrunner do have a connection they would’ve taken inspiration from that game if they wanted to make a good one is my point. CyberPunk is generic af. Do you really feel like you’re playing a new game instead of a MTG/WOWTCG/FOW/Gundam/One Piece clone?
>>
>>98671666
I just ordered these starter decks.
At first I thought like "yawn" yet another bullshit tcg in a saturated market.

I took a closer look and I think it looks really good. It is like a leader based tcg, but you have three leaders instead of one. Cool. The dice mechanic seems fun as well. Pretty abstract, but I don't mind that. The end result of this abstraction feels like it works pretty well with the theme. The art looks fantastic.

Looks like games will be fast too, so it can be nice to play a quick game here and there.
>>
I was gonna @ the Cyberpunk glaze but I can't be bothered. TCG design just like video games nowadays has gone to shit

Bought a bunch of Blackbeard cards for One Piece cause he’s a chad. What is strong in this game? The top8 results are weird af. Mihawk is the A tier but doesn’t consistently get there?
>>
>>98673781
The current meta is weird. There are like 10 dominant decks right now and pretty much anything can happen. Wild card, off-meta decks also do well all over the world.
It's not necessarily a bad thing, but it means that the players have to invest a lot of time and energy into the game to get even a 50% result in a tourney. For me, OPTCG is like my third most important game, so I'm not particularly thrilled about a sweaty meta like this; but I'd totally get why the people who only live and breathe this game say that they love the game right now.
A black-yellow Teach is a perfectly good deck to get into right now.

That's literally what happened to flesh and blood. If you didn't grind your matchups every single meta refresh and get your win ratio above 50% then it was a huge waste of effort because you couldn't compete with the high rollers.

I don't really get this sentiment. why would anyone expect to do well in a game they're not giving the time?
if you just show up to a tournament with a netdeck it's reasonable to go 50% against the other scrubs, but you're gonna get dickslapped by anybody who's actually putting in the hours, pretty much regardless of what they're running. in any game with a reasonable amount of skill expression, the off-meta deck plus practice is going to wipe the floor with the meta deck with a half-assed pilot.

Getting a 50% result on a tourney isn't particularly doing "well". 75% or above is doing "well", imo. 50% should be doable with a well put together minmaxxed netdecked deck and decent matchups AND zero preparation.
If I have to memorize every possible matchup and have zero chance without having learned or experienced a matchup before, then the game has entered into the sweaty tryhard territory.
Not that there's anything wrong with that, it's just good to keep in mind if you're a multigamer. The game will require more investment now.
Also, OPTCG is exactly the kind of game that after one expansion all of this can change and it goes right back to casual friendly again.

how could that ever work though? unless you're playing mainly against small children or the most relentless casuals, "minmaxxed netdeck with zero prep" is the baseline. all else equal, your gonna be cointoss 50/50 against all the other lazy fuckers doing the same thing. the casuals running their meme decks are still going to beat a no prep netdeck if they practice enough, and any of the spike players will consistently curbstomp you.

so basically you're just assuming you'll have either incredible luck, or that you're such an incredibly talented player that you will be able to power through a stacked deck. because the expected outcome is more like 0% to 25%.

Those cards' texture foiling is pretty cheap in some ways, even on the more expensive cards. Crazy in the backgrounds, but barely anything on the characters. That tech could be useful especially on clothing to illustrate what its texture might feel like. Or people's skin shining under the light in various ways.
But I'm probably already putting more thought into it that the publisher ever has. They have like 5 patterns that their machine can do and they just spam those randomly in the background.

In their own words
>Stacked Deck is a low opportunity cost inclusion in a decklist that provides general consistency as well as cheap synergy when combined with cards like Ravenbloom Student or Battlefields like Abandoned Hall. While we acknowledge that the card is fun to play and can slot into any Chaos strategy seamlessly, the consistency it provides is higher than we would like and has shown a compounding issue with the release of the Kennen legend. When combined with Lightning Rush, this card lets Kennen churn through the deck a little too efficiently, finding key cards like Nocturne while simultaneously filling the trash for Rhasa the Sunderer and Last Rites.

Played magic on Thursday night for the first time since really getting into Netrunner at the start ish of this year (my friend finished a cube he’s been working on for a while) and I think my brain has fully gone Netrunner mode.

Like, I was so overwhelmed by having 7 cards in my hand it felt like so many. Also had to relearn the fact that you draw 1 (one) card a turn and like…. you can’t just spend your whole turn drawing more cards?!?!? It felt sooo agonising lol. Also just like, there so little cards on the board??? You’re telling me i play a card and then you play a card to destroy that card and then there’s just nothing in front of us but some lands???
Who designed this game??? Maybe he should learn a thing or two from the guy who designed Netrunner. (This is a joke)

Duel Masters has a spin-off called Doragon Musume ni Naritakunai (I don't want to be a Dragon Girl). It's about various popular dragon creatures from Duel Masters reimagined as high school girls. There's a manga and a web anime and they often feature as alternate arts for cards.
For April Fools a year or two ago, the official Japanese MtG xitter account posted a Dragon Musume version of Ugin.
Duel Masters has their own version of Magic's Secret Lair (Kami Art). The current/upcoming Kami Art sets are a crossover with Magic. One of the cards features Ugin-chan from that April Fools post.

hard to go backward for sure. it's crazy how much TCG mechanics evolved and improved in a few short years from 1994 to 1997. Trek, L5R, VTES, ONR, MECCG, Dune... shit was fucking wild, laid down the template for every "innovative" cardgame for the next 2 decades.
ofc most of the industry got hung up on just copying mtg over and over so for tcg normies shit like "just put lands in a separate deck!" seems like a really brilliant and original idea.
>>
I'll never understand why no one has ripped off Cardfight Vanguard and the other Bushiroad games.

>>
>>98698576
3 colors?
>>
>>98698349
I think the issue is that Vanguard never *truly* took off in the west. At it's absolute peak it was getting maybe 4-500 regionals at most.
It also doesn't help that a lot of normies/big3 purists always handwaved the entire trigger mechanic as "there is no skill the game comes down to luck" when there was absolutely a high skill ceiling where you would do fucking prob-stat in your head to figure out you and the opponent's % chance of puling a trigger. In addition to that, there was also the mindgame of trying to figure out your opponent's trigger ration based on what information you've seen in the match so far, as well as the entire "damage as a comeback mechanic" feature you already described with counterblasts (which in turn led to more skill expression in damage denial, timing attacks, etc.)

tl;dr I'm on board. Get me a CFV knockoff that isn't made by BushiShit and I will play it in a heartbeat.

>>
Played the Cyberpunk TCG beta event and it was pretty meh. I think most people had zero idea what to do so the matches weren't particularly close. The legend system is pretty ass, why the fuck are they random instead of being able to choose one? And whenever your opponent played their legend with go solo, it always meant that if you dealt with it while retaining tempo, they couldn't do shit anymore because they nuked their own land.
It honestly didn't help that the event was filled with honest to God mouthbreathers who took ages to finish their games. I found that the amount of options you could do was very limited and the entire game pretty much played itself because interaction on opposing turns is so limited and kinda shit value. And because people didn't know what they were doing, you just snowballed the games by playing adequately and they could never get into the match properly.

/acg/,
I would like your help developing a beginner-oriented Organized Play kit. At the moment, my current plan is for a multi-week kit that players buy in to with the LGS at the beginning. This will get you a set amount of product, and then you will get participation prizes throughout the weeks for playing matches and completing goals.
The first weeks would be starter decks only, then you would get some boosters to expand for the next weeks, and the final weeks players would be open to play with any card they could find
>>
>>98705719

>>
File: 20210308_140313.jpg (3.77 MB, 3264x2448)

>>98706141
Broly Saiyan Supreme in ScoreZ is technically a healing deck. Your deck is your life, and normally to level up in the game you remove ten cards in your discard pile from the game. With the Supreme Mastery, instead of removing those ten cards, you put them on the bottom of your deck, effectively healing yourself. Broly aims to suddenly burst heal all the way to level 5 in a single turn while dropping several nasty attacks along the way.
>>
>>98706113
non existent one
>>98706107
what comes to mind?
>>
>>98706141
Well, for Lorcana specifically, you probably want either amber or sapphire as one of your colors, unless you want to heal by moving damage, in which case, you'll want amethyst. You should consider a secondary color like Ruby, which will have cards with themes like "damage your own character to gain X benefit" or "character enters play with damage but has other benefits to offset this". Alternately, Steel has many tanky bodyguards that would definitely be in harm's way. Also, be prepared to shell out some extra money for cards like Ohana Means Family, because some of the most useful healing cards are also kind of pricey.
>>
>>98706217
>what comes to mind?
Well, if any players miss a week then their decks will likely be weaker from having a smaller card pool to work from, so they'll have less incentive to continue week to week.
Players who earn more packs from winning or completing challenges week by week get a larger card pool to work from, potentially creating a snowball effect where those players win more each week.
Another issue is keeping track of each player's card pool each week, because it'd be simple to just slip some new cards in their deck after the first week. While you CAN keep track of this, it'd be a pain in the ass every week.
Will you allow players in who weren't present for week one? If so, how many packs would they get to supplement their deck? The average distribution from prior weeks? Zero? You could easily alienate players, new or returning.
Depending on the game, some starter decks are flat out superior to others. This could really skew the win/loss rate over multiple events and leave players unhappy.
None of these hurdles are strictly insurmountable, but they do pose issues.
>>
Also, I don't think I'd personally want to pay upfront and have product trickled out to me on a week-to-week basis that I've already payed for, especially when missing a week and effectively costing myself money is a possibility. Feels too much like a battlepass in a videogame.
Other people might not have an issue with the concept, to be fair, just a personal concern.

>>
>>98706488
The participation prizes wouldn't be packs or anything that gives you a benefit over other players, everyone would be on the same ground for the first weeks (depending on pulls).
>because it'd be simple to just slip some new cards in their deck after the first week
It would be up to the players to keep the honor system, of course anybody who is caught cheating should be flayed alive
>Will you allow players in who weren't present for week one?
You could give participation points to players who may not be able to join that particular League but may want a demo. Or a store could have a number of rolling leagues if there are so many people missing out
>Depending on the game, some starter decks are flat out superior to others. This could really skew the win/loss rate over multiple events and leave players unhappy.
This is something that comes with the territory of every trading card game.
>None of these hurdles are strictly insurmountable, but they do pose issues.

Participation points would provide prizes like alternate art cards, or maybe a special playmat at the end of the 6 weeks. Players are incentivized to continue coming because they're specifically paying not just for the product but the 6 weeks of structured play. Stores are encouraged to run it because it locks in the profits instantly regardless of if people drop out later.
>oints for playing a number of matches each week
>points for running demo games to new players
>points for trading with another player
I'm trying to model this after the Journeyman League from games like Warmachine

What's the ideal number of colors?
Should there be leaders?
What restrictions on deck building should there be?

literally scroll up and read nigtard

Not that anon but
>What's the ideal number of colors?
Depends on how we do this. Are we making a Set 1? How many cards would be in it. If it's ~200 then 5 colors+ generic. 4 colors if multicolor cards are in Set 1.
>Should there be leaders?
>What restrictions on deck building should there be?
These can't answered without knowing how resources, if any, work.

Batoru is actually open to people now so that might work.

Sure it can. Maybe the decision to have leaders or not will determine the resource system. Be creative.

by leader, you mean like in MtG?
>>98714758
indeed haha..time to time I suggest this idea to see if it works
>>98714772
hope we'll make it at least to the rules lol

I'm the guy who tried to host wixoss, it wasn't just online play but a progression series, I underestimated the amount of work that would need and I was basically alone, don't be mad at me.
As far as making a game goes, how did Four Leaf Studios do it? Did they really only coordinate on 4chan? I find It hard to believe. If you really, really want to make a game with people here, just make a discord server and share your progress, but don't use the thread as the main platform
>>
>>98715735
Ok yeah they used a forum, makes sense. Anyway it's not 4chan that gets shit done, it's the people. Find like-minded individuals here and create with them, but don't be obsessed by the idea that it MUST be completed between these walls

Is it automated at all?
I've never played the game and to me it is awkward to go up against some random person when I have no idea what I'm doing
>>
>>98713815
Haha oh I thought it said battle lole
>>
IAR reminding people that they actually do like when new sets introduce busted heroes that you immediately have to learn to fight and tech against.
>>
>>98716192
every single one of my favorite sets was never a day zero meta breakup
>>
I kinda want to build a deck around Zeta/ZZ units and pilots or atleast Kamille. Is it possible to do so and still win at locals more often than lose?
>>
>>98715018
6. the mana colors will be Weeb, Grog, Drone, Slop, Chud and Fail.
the anons are wizards competing to be the first to lure the other anons into their magical realm.

now pay me

Good job you reinvented frenopolis
>>
>>98716779
doesn't deny my point though. A lot of the last few sets have been duds as far as power level go. Kayo and Victor LLing + Volzar bans did more for the meta in the last year than anything else
>>
>>98717372
I deny caring because the game is trash now
