I'll just cut to the chase. I live somewhere with no place to find people with the same roleplaying or tabletoping hobby I'm interested in having.

But I'm also at what I consider an unsurmountable hurdle of finding a good table. Discord is ass and chok-full of "that" kind of people, a ton of sites paywall games and I'm basically stumped as to where to find normal people who just wanna have fun. (>inb4 asks on >>4chan<< for normal people, I know)

What man do?

I dunno, bro. I never had trouble finding a game when I lived in a big city, I had my regular group and often joined additional games on the side. Now I've had to move back to my hometown for a year and there's fuck all here. I haven't looked at online though, doesn't hit the same for me.

In my experience it's an exponentially more soul-draining experience than scrolling twitter
>>
>>98660929
It's possible to find a good group online, it just takes time or luck.
I had the latter, you will need to invest the former.

This. ( >>98660999 )

I was fortunate enough to have a large group of big internet nerds I already associated with. The real trick is if you want a game, you'll almost certainly be the one running it.
>>
>>98660929
Don't you have any online friends?

You get friends and jus interested people through participating in mutual activities like a local board games group or book club. I don't think you should look for a group online.
>>
>>98660929
It's extremely suspicious that you are taking care to repeat the qualifier "normal". What do you consider normal, anon? What exactly are "that" kind of people that you don't want to play with? Are they all playing with each and not allowing you to join?

I think we all know why, anon.
>>
>>98660999
Personally, I've gotten very lucky twice. Two great groups found through gamefinder thread here.
>>
>>98660929
discord had different servers, including ones with different people

>>98660961
>>98660972
it's different, but it's not automatically bad
>>
>>98660929
I play the TTRPGs I make solo, and when my friends and I hang out, we do non-TTRPG activities.
>>
>>98660929
What kind of games are you into anon, maybe you'd like to join my table?
>>
>>98660929
Seen some anons suggest a fishing approach. Join and run as many games as you can, keep in touch with individual people you vibe with, then eventually curate a group of your own.
I guess that's one approach.
>>
>>98661632
Lots, but none of them are really interested in the hobby. I find it a little hard to make new friends online.
>>
>>98662282
I'm still experimenting with a lot of systems, but I'm particularly excited to try Cyberpunk. Fantasy settings are really nice but I'm a tad tired of them,
>>
>>98661605
I'll try harder to look for some physical places, then. I'll have to leave my region often, but it should make it even more fun.
>>
>>98661682
That's great! I'll keep an eye out from now on.

I've been surfing disboard for servers and it's what led me here in the first place. To indirectly answer the schizo anon above, what frustrated me looking around is that it's really difficult to find a server where you understand is a neutral space made for having fun and not saying "fuck ICE" every so often with characters being made around that culture. I'm not looking for a group with the same takes as me, I just want a place where we leave that shit at the door. Had enough bad experiences with people like that.
>>
>>98662324
This is actually great advice, anon. Thank you, I'll try that immediately.
>>
>>98663030
Which version? OG or Red?

You have a library or community centre?
Facebook is not a good place but it does have community gathering pages which could help if applicable in your area.

Chuds or Troons?
>>
>>98663075
I'm well-versed on RED better, but 2020 is also really dope. I'm glad you're still here anon, you can reach me on brasalvas111 on discord if you'd like.

I live in a semi-rural place which is engineered for tourists above the age of fifty, which leaves me with very little options. I'd need to pick a date on the week where I can make some hour long trips to a bigger city, which should make things a lot easier, but it's gonna get a little expensive. Which frankly, it's worth the cost.
>>
>>98663141
Troons and troon-adjacents. I have friends of all kinds and I don't mind befriending people from all across the social spectrum but when they're political puritans and you have that feeling of walking on eggshells all the time it's just so, so bad.
>>
>>98663065
there literally are servers like that

hell my discord account technically owns a ~100 person server like that, though i haven't been active there in years so they mostly do their own thing

if you're mostly exposed to game servers through culture war morons, just ask them about a bunch of different servers and see which ones they start to argue are the nazi ones or similar, odds are they're pissed off the most about the ones where political discussions just aren't welcome
