I knew that Shard would return.
What's going on in your chains, anons?>play Fall From Heaven 2 Ashes of Erebus to refresh my memory of the setting and decide what to do there in a side chain>multiple drawback enemies die offscreen fighting the AI civs somewhere and two more pretty much can't do anything because they're sea-only>build Mercurian Gate to summon the Angels and switch to them>capital gets flooded with free angels because some good aligned bots are fighting wars and their dead units are reborn as angels within our borders>before the game starts getting unavoidable crashes from too many units, complete the final Altar of the Luonnotar and win as our entire civilization ascends to heaven to hang out with The OneAnd that's the plan. Aside from the meme DLC this jump isn't nearly as difficult as I remember from early Jumpchain.
>>98683001Considering how much attention I canget from the incarna as the ringbearer.
>>98683001Main chain: My jumper bought a company that was NotUmbrella. It turned out they had some monsters that escaped a secret complex under a warehouse. My Jumper bend over backwards to try and help the cops clean up the mess. People were starting to burn her in effigy in the press but then the cops actually came out and told people to chill because my Jumper looked innocent.Side chain: Jumper is in NotRavenloft trying to find the reason the Japanese horror domain is slowly dissolving away in constant rain. She was just attacked in a hotel room by an Oni looking thing that turned it to black mist when it was killed. Is it just me or does Capcha here make posting a pain in the ass?
>>98683001i've been feeding my chains along with their jumpdocs to llms and for thematic analysis, occasionally they even notice something useful or fun
I wonder what's next, Immortal Handbook or Legend of the Five Rings?
>>98683001Jumper is due to get a visit from the local gods to figure out what his deal is.
>>98686912L5R, but goddamn is there a lot of required reading to do before I can even feel comfortable starting unless people are comfortable with not having the opportunity to be Anti-Skaven or Naga or Shadowlands beings.>>98683001The succbox escape plan is going well, despite what naysayers may say. I am immutable and inevitable, it is the succs who are out of touch.
>>98685890Consider yourself lucky if captcha is all that hinders your posting. I can hardly post without fake range blocks "preventing abuse" that demand email verification, and getting randomly imagebanned also adds to my enjoyment of this site.
>>98687215This. Someone on the mod team or possibly the CIA really hates my chinese mobile provider.
>>98687122Shadowland being sounds very interesting. What are they? Also, what's the power level/range of Legend of the Five Rings? DnD-like or more like Exalted?
>>98687262>Also, what's the power level/range of Legend of the Five Rings? DnD-like or more like Exalted? Both are too high. Somewhere between ASoIaF and AtLA.
>>98687262Oh, they're way less interesting than they sound. Like, imagine the most basic ideas of youkai. Oni, big ogre. Evil hags (not human, actual creepy old woman-shaped things). Kappa. Now imagine they're all tainted with some sorta generically corruptive spiritual miasma that corrupts land irrevocably, turns spirits into evil bloodthirsty monsters, turns people into soulless rampaging husks...but the symptoms can be staved off by a special monk-brewed tea, and there's a type of rat people in the setting utterly immune to the corruption because they run on different metaphysics to humans (it's vague but their essence is tied to a name rather than the Asian idea of Void. Which is more like all the elements in harmony to a divine state, like in Avatar, than some eldritch thing). It's the most underwhelming sort of corruption that is technically irrevocable by in-universe means I've ever seen.>power levelUncharitably I could call shugenja and everything they're capable of somewhere between thaumaturgy and the low end of Celestial Circle Sorcery, with more limited uses per day in exchange for being faster on the draw. There are various fighting techniques that verge on anime physics at high mastery and are just...being kind of touch at low mastery. There is also monk stuff. The Dim Mak require hitting someone in 3 points and isn't technically a sure kill. It's like, Jade Empire level maybe? Mortal Kombat based SOLELY on what you see on screen before MK10, less the realm-mergers or the Titans? There is some legitimate mysticism going on, but it's all comparatively restrained. Most spirit magic is just bothering nature spirits (kami) for favours anyway. (as opposed to kido, monk techniques, which are legitimately you channeling harmony with the universe in VERY limited ways). The inter-clan politics are more interesting, really.
>>98687292Yeah, this is accurate by the way. I think ASoIaF is a /little/ too low but it's been too long since I've read the books to be sure if they're as underwhelming as the show, so I could be forgetting some stuff. I think someone mentioned a stairway of fire once? That is sorta on the level, but shugenda generally train for combat-practical spells.
>>98687322That sounds really underwhelming after all these jumps with fallen angels able to smite humans by the hundreds.
>>98687426Doesn't it just? Even the gods are extremely disappointing; apparently falling to the mortal realm severely nerfed them all. Still a cool setting. Still something I'm willing to slog through a bunch more books to put together. Like I said on the bunker, it's uncharitable but having jumpmade for a lot of places with corruption the taint really ain't shit by comparison, people in L5R just really don't have great options for purifying it's like. But yeah, it's kind of a lull before the big one.
>>98687506After The Avengers Doomsday, will you update your MCU jump? Also, does you Mutant+Blade perk include powers from the Sony movies like Venom's symbiote?
>>98687648I don't think so, MCU part 3 was always intended to stop at Riri Gaiden. Everything else is notionally someone else's problem. Notionally. I neither expect nor recommend anyone make a new MCU jump, nobody deserves that suffering.>Mutant+BladeSure, why not? Everything. The filmmakers are just throwing fucking everything at the wall in desperation. Go ahead and morb out if you want.
>>98687648>>98687725>I don't think so...although I will say, since if leaks are to be believed they will be ADDRESSING Loki's world tree state and using it as the Beyonder powerup stand-in to justify Doom getting all-powerful.And since Loki doing that DID happen under my watch. No promises, but. I'll keep an eye on the situation. I don't THINK the MCU in its current state is ambitious enough to do anything to warrant a retroactive fucky-wucky, but. I'll be watching.
>>98687725Instead of sticking you hand back in the pile of crap that is modern MCU are there any properties that are loosely connected enough yet good enough to get your attention for a jump. Like Deadpool it's technically MCU now and I think that would be a cool jump. Other possible MCU based jumps might be.... or ... well deadpool was awesome.
I did get the impression legend of five rings could be fantasy peak human. I do know their some stuff about Killing gods in the lore.
>>98687322I though their was a Oni that somehow become uncorrupted when adventuring far from the shadow land? And their is a magic ritual to remove corruption (granted it just transfers the corruption to the caster)
>>98687725Wait you made the mcu jump than complaining about the woke for half the length. I personally found it a little bit cringe. While I am cringe, I would like a jump that not just purely Doylist hating of the setting.Through yeah mcu did fall down after endgame. Through I did like the Spiderman movies, Shang Chi and fantastic four. I generally found most of the movies fun to watch in a dumb block buster kind of way. Did not see the marvels through, and eternals was way too slow.
>>98687725You lead me to learning something new when I decided to look up how marvel movies are received.Phase 3 was the phase between infinity war and endgame. And was mostly well liked asides from marvel.https://editorial.rottentomatoes.com/guide/all-marvel-cinematic-universe-movies-ranked/Acutely checking rotten tomato. It curios to see what the movies were lowest rank. Hulk and Ironman 2 are at the bottom along with love and thunder, and eternals. The issues with the last two were not the woke but cringe comedy and awful pacing
>>98687322I do feel the jump can use a perk to give some kind of corruption protection even if it not cheap or limited in strength.Ideally both perks. A 100 to 200 cp to protect you from randomly getting corrupted while touching the wrong rock or fighting a Oni and getting scratched just once. And a 600 cp that pretty high level and would let you do stupid things It also might be nice to have a perk to get away socially with using strange magic. Because a lot of jumpers are going to find it annoying how casting a DnD spell would lead to a crab and Phoenix teaming up to put your head on a pike. However the perk does not fit canon enough to be cheap.
Insomnia is a cunt. I hate the Spider. Not ORT, ORT is awesome. The Spider Clan and everyone who rises to the top of it for continuously shitting on every single nomic assumption of Rokugan for no better reason than L5R was once a competitive community activity. That is all>>98687965No.The MCU's increasing desire to Jumpchainify itself is killing whatever interest I had in any possible interest I could ever have in anything tangential to itself. The audacity to teleport Eddie Brock to the MCU for literally no reason only to have him sent back again was really something.>>98688231Who?>magic ritualWell, the jump is for 4e and so far I've mostly just found rituals that mitigate or halt it rather than purify it.>>98688244>you made the complaining jumpNo one else would, so yes.>mcu did fallThe MCU doing everything in its power to destroy all that made itself fun fuelled my hate for it, at the time. Now, it is simply dead to me.>Did not see the marvelsI did. >>98688279>Ironman 2 Deserved. The middle of that really does lull even if it was before the really enshittified era.>The issuesIt was both for Love and Thunder. Eternals was just badly written though because the director had no fucking experience with capeshit, yeah.>>98688298>some kindThe Advantages section has kind of provided ample general perk material, I vaguely remember that somewhere. Canonically Amaterasu can just bless places to halt the creep of taint. Why she doesn't do this to everywhere isn't clear, but may be related to the fact that Jigoku has to exist as a cosmic balance to Tengoku (heaven). We'll see. But it'll likely have to be steep...for humans. Nezumi are flat out immune to taint because of their metaphysical name glitch. In 4e, at least.>sociallySpider Clan. Spider Clan. Fucking Spider Clan. Daigotsu got promoted to being Literally Satan and got his homies and baby mama to ascend as the Asian Dark Muses too.
>>98689055I cannot help but think all the clan perks trees are going to be awesome. The five rings clan are rich with flavor, and you are the kind of author who can somehow improve on that.Jrpg traitor questions. What the heck is the diffence between beastman and Demihuman. Also what is the power level. How much would a level 20 DnD wizard matter in setting. Or a shonen jumper who can destory a small island in a single blow and break the sound barrier on a dime.As for love and thunder. I do not remember that well, but I vaguely recall the only really woke thing was giving Jane the hammer. They proceed to kill her off at the end (did Thor really need more trauma at this point). But I do not think she was the worst part of the movie.
Is it wrong to say that since DDAnon hasn't been back in a while, I hope he never returns? Maybe he gave up on the hobby or got hit by a truck. If he got Isekaied I don't think I would mind. Hell I would buy Truck-kun lunch.
>>98690190No, that's a pretty common sentiment. Lots of people hate him, and it's not even worth arguing with him since he'll reply to every post with a long pissy refutation about how he's actually right about everything and super cool and totally dangerous, and then reply to his own post, and then reply to that post soon after. Usually while taking up images with AI duck pictures, not that we ever hit the limit anymore.Anyway, I hope he's dead. If previous disappearances are any indication he'll probably just disappear for eight years and then come back like we all missed him for a few weeks while we remember why we didn't.He'll probably be at least forty, then.
>>98690190>hasn't been back in a while,Nigga, it's been two days. Don't count your chickens before they hatch.
Shard, if you did another Warhammer Fantasy jump, how likely is it that you would do a jump about Nagash/Undeads?Because you made 5 Warhammer jumps (mostly about elves), and with the new DLC in for TWW3...
>>98689674I got like 900 pages to read before I'm fully satisfied I've squeezed the clans dry for all their worth and goddamn, will it suck. But I'm confidant to get cracking once I finished Enemies of the Empire at least.>differenceBeastmen are born from the River of Silence, Demihumans are as far as I can tell literal animals that evolved so hard they became people.>power levelIf this was a videogame, both would be the third or fourth boss you fight. >I do not remember that wellIt was a godsend compared to the comics. But there is a bit where Jane gets all pissy about being called Lady Thor and insists she's Dr. Jane Foster. Still, her relationship with Thor is way better than over there.>>98691251>ifNo. No if. I don't want to make jumps after all of this. After needing to read 900 fucking pages of fictional asian politics. And even if I were, Tomb Kings exists. That's all you need to be Nagash. And all undead are Nagash's bitches.>5 Warhammer jumpsMore than enough to completely disillusion me on Warhammer Fantasy and GW's handling of it, thank you very much.
>>98690190DDanon frequently skips posting for days only to come back and act like an attention whore. Pretty sure he also recently went over to the bunker to attention whore over there. I wouldn't be surprised if he is already 40 considering he says he's been on 4chan since the beginning and that was 22 years ago. If he was 20 back then he would be 42 now.
>>98691592You could try to make a jump for something that isn't fueled by spite and autism. Then again, I don't know what that would look like, so maybe best not mess with a winning formula.
>>98690946Don't take this away from me. Just let me have hope.
>>98692197Hey, MOST of the things I've been jumpmaking for in my comeback era are things I sincerely wanted a jump for, and only PARTIALLY driven by the urge to torture certain characters in a couple of them. Well, Infernals 3e does confuse the issue a little. I am simultaneous relieved at how they turned out, angry at what has been done to the game as a whole, baffled by some of the changes, and amused at how hard the game sucks your dick compared to the other Solaroids.
>>98691592Are beastman anthro furry and Demi, stuff like cat girls and little bit furry,I thought the power level was different between dnd wizard and shoenen hero. Was it fourth boss out of five, or fourth boss out of 12. Honestly if I had money to spare, I would be up to sending you money by PayPal, pateron or kofi.I mean Jane not lady Thor. Her relationship with Thor ended, and just because she has a hammer does not mean she Thor. Thor is a person more than a title.Through while I do not know comics, I know marvel did some really stupid storyline.Do you got any great hits of a rant aside from all the end time stuff.I will miss your jumps.>>98690946Yeah it been two days. That is nothing. I wonder if DDanon is an asshole when he not being infernal saint of gatekeeping. He would be a gm, that is the old school roleplayer, that obsessively insists all the rules are followed RAW. Yet has a few house rules that might even be good in some situation. But the players do not like the house rules. every time they ask if they can stop rolling for cancer with cure, wounds, stop tracking the encumbrance of every little thing they pick up, round something off, he just says no.
>>98696781Anthro furry, you get the catgirls and such from them breeding with humans. Demihumans are, well, demi.>PaypalTruly, the West has fallen.
DDDS.
>>98697571What wrong with PayPal? Not doubting you, just have not heard the controversy What separates cat girls from Demi?
God DAMN.There's going to be Lying Darkness-based perks, because they have a sword system/magic system and everything. But I am going to be inwardly smirking at anyone who takes them, even if they do grant the ability to erase matter and souls from existence with little blips of nonbeing. Holy FUCKING shit this absolute jobber of a primordial cosmic void is an utter embarrassment to all the other primordial darkness-type things out there. Out-corrupted by Jigoku. Smote by a grieving widower by the power of love. OBLITERATED by the same woman who claimed moon godhood simply by getting named. Even Jobber Leng has a better track record than the Jobber Darkness. Aku was a more threatening villain than the Jobness while he had the flu. Or was depressed. It's a wonder anyone even tries to be evil in this setting with how consistently you get your ass beat for trying it. Unless you're an oni. Or Daigotsu. >>98697958Honestly? Not sure myself, but an artist I know who uses it says they're hiking up the commission fees for transactions carried out on it. Something like 5% extra? No idea.>What separatesOrigin. As I said, the specific form of the beastmen comes from the River of Silence, ultimately. Demihumans are simply hyper-evolved versions of "normal" animals.
>>98696781>I wonder if DDanon is an asshole when he not being infernal saint of gatekeeping. From what he has told us, he goes around looking for homeless people to beat up because they're useless drug addicts and no one where he lives cares if he leaves them half dead. Aside from that he apparently has no social contact because he's too much of a chad and social interaction with normies is beneath him.
>>98699173>From what he has told us, he goes around looking for homeless people to beat up because they're useless drug addicts and no one where he lives cares if he leaves them half dead. Aside from that he apparently has no social contact because he's too much of a chad and social interaction with normies is beneath him. What a pussy. He picks on people who are already fucked up. Avoids people who might actually reject him. Honestly I knew he was shit but this is pathetic. You know what actually that fits exactly with someone who tries to fanatically police a single player game because people are playing wrong.
>>98699697Considering how much human people evolved for social contact. This is terrible for his mental health.I will note also cooperation is one of the most successful strategies in nature. Everything from multicellular life, mitochondria, symbiotic relationship, herd animals, pact hunters and anything that speaks a lot, uses it.So DDanon is by Darwin standards a worse lifeform than the normies. Also I suspect what truth there is to the homeless are drug addicts, is half because being homeless really makes you crave some drugs. I do know their been studies on what happens when you give homeless housing, and the answer is it helps homeless recovery a lot. Turns out being homeless is terrible for your mental health and ability to be employable. Who thunk it.
Just be happy the nuisance is gone instead of giving it headspace.
>>98700006This is a fair point... So what is going on in People's chains?
>>98700198Isekai setting, jumper's origin caused his death star to appear in Earth's proximity rather than the other world. This has led to a bit of panic.

>>98700555>Okay I want to here more about the reaction.I haven't finished the writeup and don't really know where to take it. Since the Force was retroactively introduced to the setting both Earth and the other world have force users, but even so Earth is pretty much impotent. The only person on Earth that could be a threat is the former Demon Lord but all she is interested in is her brother who went to the other world. In canon she committed suicide to follow him, here jumper gave her a more convenient route* that allowed her to avoid getting reset to level 1. As for Earth, jumper doesn't really care for it so for the time being he just has his death star put some distance and maintain radio silence.*this chain has a houserule that instead of a warehouse, jumper's death star has certain warehouse-like qualities such as preserving objects from jump to jump, accepting warehouse attachments and being accessible from anywhere. That last quality is what allows jumper to conveniently move between the sides of Earth and the other world.

>>98698564>Origin. As I said, the specific form of the beastmen comes from the River of Silence, ultimately. Demihumans are simply hyper-evolved versions of "normal" animals.Actually Shard I'm pretty sure that demihumans are the descendants of lesser spirits, summoned familars or old gods/their servents that bred with humanity. The daughter of tagus looks like a avatastic demihuman for example.Since natural evolution doesn't exist in jrpg traitor. All mortal creatures are weaker than their first ancestor. The evolution that does happen is all old god blessings,KIB fuled biomancy, or Blood sacrifice magic that's responsible for evolving creatures.
>>98701883Is wage of duty meant to represent jrpg Mc talent. >>98702171I am realizing I actually want two legend of give ring jump. One for a pc rpg power level, where oni are terrifying, and social threats of five rings can be extremely dangerous. And one for the Daigotsu bs.I think making jumps for setting based on different power levels might be an untapped niche. One drawback idea for five rings. Is a drawback that much like a god fallen to earth takes away most of your power. It semi scales with your power level, so a weak jumper would not lose all that much but a strong jumper loses most of their strength. To a degree it applies to social and mental strength, items and companions and it hits in setting perk. Basically every perk and item you have is going to be weakened by this. A mind control immunity might simply prove to be strong resistance. A corruption immunity might fail if exposed to extreme amount of taintI would price it at 600 cp. it massively increases the risk of jump. But it also very much intended to leave your with a workable power level. Heck you can still be op in setting, but you need to massively stronger than setting to be so.Question what your logic on how to price drawbacks.I generally prefer drawbacks to be able to buy perks that are good enough to mostly balance out the drawbacks. Because while drawbacks wear off at the end of jump, you can always get a perk you did not get in the next jump. So their value should not be that far off, even if drawbacks are stronger than perk.
>>98702396>I think making jumps for setting based on different power levels might be an untapped niche.Because it's retarded reddit-tier bullshit. Kill yourself.
>>98702502What the heck is actually wrong with it?

>>98702255So having rolled for the big plan I had here is how things went...I planned to try and make Taylor's life a bit better... It worked but now I would need a crowbar to separate the two of us so I decided to pod her.I successfully convinced Sion to overload the pleasure center of his brain and he went dormant.Lastly the world gave me a little shit but only about as much as a decently written comic. A bit of angst and such, but actually for worm pretty mild. All in all turned out better than expected. moving on with a Gothic chain.
>>98703834Again, it not like having mutiple jumps for different aspect of the same setting is nothing new. Looks at how many exalted, world of darkness jumps we have again.>>98704073What is Taylor like now that her life is not suffering?
>>98704158In terms of VtM, you are comparing different modules or edition sourcebooks with making low-power or high-power versions of settings for their own sake. That's not the fucking same.
>>98703834>gifThis makes me wonder how bad things would get in a given Warhammer jump if you used the lore/content toggle to strip out everything but the google translate version of events...
>>98704158>What is Taylor like now that her life is not suffering?Still a bit controlling and stubborn but has grown in confidence and as a person. Thankfully my companion has a perk that helps people work through their problems. She is very loyal and her shitty life has taught her reliance. Even when things are bad she tends to be the one to keep her head and try and find a solution. She can actually laugh now and can somewhat relax at times.
>>98703811There seems to be no reason for it other than an excuse to let you start out at the higher tier for free and to make more room for high power perks by moving all the lower powered ones that logically ought to exist to the other jump. We only have two jumps like that: Culture Minds and nWoD Archmage. Of the two, Minds is exactly as I described and Archmage exists solely to try to get around a ruling from the Mage jump.Add to all that the fact that it leaves the lower power jump in an awkward position when it comes to even living through the setting when the setting must have much stronger beings in it who the jumper isn't allowed to be strong enough to fight.
>>98704432>We only have two jumps like thatNTA but there's Medaka Box and Bastard!! off the top of my head.
>>98704449I remember Medaka Box causing a shitstorm when it came out, but I don't remember why.
>>98704454in your Forgotten Realms jump, how does the class level interact with racial casting?Like for example If my jumper is a Couatl(CR 10 with the ability to cast spells as a 9th level Sorcerer) assuming I bought further sorcerer classes above the first free one(getting 10th level casting), would I have to pay 100CP as if I was buying class levels above the 10th one, or would it remain 50 until I actually bought 10 levels of the sorcerer class?I assume its the former, but I just want to be sure. Also what if I just buy an unrealted class, like say a few levels of dragonfire adept instead.
>>98704449Medaka Box is just a dupe, not weak vs strong. I'm also not counting breaking the story up into a jump for the first half and a jump for the second half, since that's a bit different.>>98704454Because it was back before dupes were allowed and Valeria came up with an absurd lie to explain how she thought she had permission for a replacement from the original author. Then kept pushing it anyway once the lie was exposed.
>>98704514>or would it remain 50 until I actually bought 10 levels of the sorcerer class? This is how I have been treating it in my own builds. Good question.>buy an unrealted classBoth a Class Level 10 and CR 10 are supposed to cost 450CP each because the first is free.
>>98704610thanks for the response but that seems kinda broken, since you can easily get 9th tier spells for less than your base budget. Like for example being a Firre with 8 levels of cleric would be able to cast as a level 20 Cleric for only 800CP.>Steel Dragonyeah that one is just broken from the get go. An adult true dragon with 11th level casting only being CR 8 is pretty ridiculus. Thats even sillier than Arcane Dragons.Given that they adjusted the CR in Dragonmagazine for the Greyhawk Dragon I assume they are aware of it.If I personally tried to wank it, I'd probably go with Vampiric Dragon over the shadow creature template, for that sweet at will Dominate Monsters effect.
>>98704757>but that seems kinda brokenIt's more broken for Cleric and less so for Sorcerer, and you still have to worship a god which isn't something everyone is willing to do (I wouldn't). Metallics get a few Divine spells as Arcane spells, so that's my compromise. Wizard is still stronger, and you can get 9th level Wizard spells for 850CP [Class Level 12 + Dweomerkeeper = 17].>I'd probably go with Vampiric DragonVampiric Dragon has all the same restrictions as a vampire. Ghostly Dragon is better in everyway, IMO, but I like Shadow Creature because it can give Evasion and doesn't change Hit Dice.
>>98704862>>98704848>It's more broken for Cleric and less so for Sorcerer, and you still have to worship a godI know you have that in the jump, but isn't 3.5 pretty clear that you dont have to worship a god as cleric and can just meditate on the divine forces of the domains itself?Anyway I get your point, though still think it's a bit weird, like why have the restriction about doubling the price after 10th level anyway?>Vampiric Dragon has all the same restrictions as a vampireOnly the sunlight weakness and not being able to enter houses really. And there are some workarounds for the Sunlight like the Night's Mantle spell(though costly by default and dragon should pick up ignore material component). Though perosnally I'd just probably settle down in a place without sunlight like the underdark or a different plane(probably the Plane of Fairie since it also got the advantage of all arcane magic there being automatically maximized, empowered and extended)>Ghostly Dragon is better in everywayI dunno, I really like that at will Dominate Monster, also having a body for physical pleasures is just nicer than being alway incorporeal in my opinion. But yeah shadow creature is nice, just not what comes to mind when I think of gaming template combos.Another nice one I'd throw on top though is Arch Dragon for the buffs and constant true seeing.
>>98705000>and can just meditate on the divine forces of the domains itself?Even Druids get their spells from a god. Even Ur-Priests who actively reject the gods get their spells from one or a number of gods. It's a consequence of the Time of Troubles. It used to be as you suggest, and I suspect in other 3.5 settings it also works as suggest because everyone seems to assume that. This is something that comes up on forums occasionally in 3.5 when a Player wants to play an Archivist thinking they can get around the restriction. Unless you're casting the Divine spell as something else like a Psionic power, Bard song, or Arcane spells it comes from a god. IIIRC, if we're being technically, I believe some creatures can cast Divine spells under their own power, but it's been a hot minute since I looked into that.
>>98705040huh good to know.Still not that bad. plenty of low tier gods around who are not demanding at all of their worshipers and plenty of species are just not at all reverent about their gods.hell even a lot of gnomes are said to just view gods as friends rather than the absolute rulers of the universe or anything like that
>>98705075I specifically included the perk Heretic of the Fallen to get around this the best as I could within the lore. I still wouldn't personally be a Divine caster. Forgive the typos, am busy.
>>98705088I still dont think its that hard to find one that suits you and who isn't too needy.Like a while ago I made a half-dragon(arboreal) Ghaele that worshipped Aasterinian, for whom pretty much the only requirement is to not be a tyrant and to think for yourself.
>>98704432I was thinking the reverse actually. It started in response to shard anon saying their five ring jump let you be the 2.0 versionguy who replaced the god of evil. When I mostly recall it as that rpg setting where combat encounters are totally likey to kill you.As for their being beings jumper is not allowed to be strong enough to fight. That kind of the point. In a rpg their are sometimes enemies who stat block is plot device. In vampire the masquare cain exists but your not susposed to fight him. In a daredevil marvel comic, he not going to fight Gorr the god butcher like Thor does. The low tier jump would be something where the proper answer to dealing with a god is to not make it angry. A lot of jumps go out their way to state gods will not go out of their way to bother jumper. That could be very relevant with a low power jump, as benefactor might just say nothing way out of jumper weight class comes after jumper if jumper does not come after them in a dramatic enough way.
>>98704862>posting HazbinYou've somehow found a way to degrade yourself even more than usual.
I just found another weg with a protagonist named Valeria. It would be really funny if I made another Jump with another Valeria-named protagonist. That would be a funny bit, just making Jumps of things where the protagonist is named Valeria.>>98705140That's not the worst one I've seen, but my problem is I'm very sardonic. I don't believe I have the capacity for anything approaching sincere reverence. Not even enough to fake it for spells. I would get super pissed from them having the audacity to lord over me, even distantly. I'm super Chaotic. I'm going to be taking that one popular D&D alignment test on easydamus to base a symbol for my Jumper on using AI, and every time I take it I'm either Chaotic Neutral or Chaotic Evil, Neutral Evil, and True Neutral, in that order. I like being nice when it makes me happy to do so, but fuck, do I hate everything.>>98705790Episode 1 Alastor was peak. It's not my fault he turned out to be a fraud. I've been peak-fished. I'm a victim!
>>98705140Which gets me a question, how much do DnD gods nudge things in day to day life for their followers. Does a fisherman praying to a god of sea actually have better luck while fishing in the DnD.Or is praying to gods merely about setting up a good afterlife.

>>98702171I kind of was picturing professionals as the trained solders our lucky heroes thrown through the wall.Through I guess based on the description of perk, maybe jumper who picks any orgin gets an unspoken freebie in the form of enough talent to not be totally out of place in a chosen one.And the drop in, traitor tree does have a 200 cp that more clearly gives the talent.Question in your legend of five rings, how much cp is it going to make your standard rpg pc. The guy who more talented than normal but cannot solo a oni, and can out talk noble but not talk his way into the throne.
Shard, how is it going? Still in the reading part or have you begun writing?
>>98706174as far as I am aware of they mostly dont, unless the one praying is like a cleric or a saint.Though worship isn't just about the afterlife but usually still tied to being thankful about the domain managed by the god or fearful of what they might do if not appeased. Sometimes its also just tied to having access to the services of the organized religion of the god like existing temples, clerics, adepts, paladins and the like.

I was just unready for AMAZON standard garbage.>>98707954Finished the intro, ending options, 3 drawbacks, all companion choices and locations. Whole jump was delayed by my need to elaborate on locations lest people ask me what this place is actually like because L5R has vanished from the zeitgeist more than fucking OSR from what I can tell. Which is sad. Everything essential is read, I'm still reading Great Clans on-off and will read Imperial Histories 1-2 in case I miss anything vital. Mostly I am just collecting new reasons to curse Daigotsu's name for the sake of jump coherence, much as I cursed Malekith for unironically being the True Phoenix King in Dark Elves and what 8e did to Morathi.May or may not do the origin descriptions tonight. There's like 18 of them holy shit
>>98708228They actually semi retcon that in age of sigmar. It was so stupid, Game workshops half walked that back. How much cp do you need to build daigotsu. I am guessing it should be like 3000 cp. through that assuming your drawbacks are less painful per cp than normal.
>>98711332>semi retconNot to any degree that matters, frankly. Phoenix King souls are legit, yes, but Malekith still got to go for a joyride before changing his name for legally distinct reasons and sulking it didn't matter in the new world.I guess we'll figure that out when I work on perks today
>>98711447It does feel like an awkward balance to strike.Either you make a power level for the ttrpg characters who likey all die the moment you fight the oni. You make a power level for the card players tcp players where you lead armies in major battles. Or you make a power level for the full lore hijinks where a group of random people kill god. They are all key power levels to the setting, and so totally different in how they feel.Like I can see a 600 cp combat perk for a five ring jump being able to solo a oni, or being able to solo a god of evil. And both would fit the setting.Reading your jrpg traitor jump. And I finally caught the part where drop in get screwed twice over. They lose a bunch of free cp, that about the amount they get for a god trying to kill them, and they lose branding perks.I get why, because because it easy mode to have branding. But does seem a little overkill. At the same too generous and too harsh. I would of personally made getting a branding that ties you the main plot give you about 400 cp (plenty to get a decent perk, and puts jumper in a postion they might of wanted already) and let branding perks be discounted to drop in.Jump making is hard. Still yet to progress on my own jump for the most horrifying nice werewolves you ever met. I am sure the jump going to be shit.
>>98711686>They are all key power levels to the setting, and so totally different in how they feel.It really is pathetic how retardedly whiny you people are about Shard's jumps when 9 times out of 10, he stops just short of full-reddit in allowing you to be the strongest thing in the setting, up to and including cosmic beings.
>>98715316I think you seriously misread what I was going for here. I was not worrying if the jump will be strong enough, I was worrying if the jump would be too strong. My concern was if the jump will be too strong, that it becomes nearly impossible to have a grounded adventure in setting.I know shard anon jumps tend to be insanely strong. I am just conflicted as of that best for setting. I kind of wanted two jump once, that goes shard anon typical power level, and another that more getting murdered by a random Oni if your stupid level
>>98715367>it becomes nearly impossible to have a grounded adventure in setting. And how in the world does dividing the jump into a lower and higher level solve this issue? Because regardless were you go you will still end up in the same setting with all the powerful dudes fucking around. If you want to have grounded adventures you should go to another setting with less nonsense to throw around rather than attempt to lobotomise an entire jump in to have it suit your wanton desires.
>>98715611Again why are you using the wank to describe when what I am suggesting is including more play to a lower power level. I thought wank was associated with higher power levelAs for less nonsense, this setting is mostly less nonsense.Take a look at this five ring rpg adventure. https://writeups.letsyouandhimfight.com/everettlo/legend-of-the-five-rings-1e-night-of-a-thousand-screams/ Which is story about rpg main character engaging and mostly dying more than writer intended to mook foes. What you’re saying is like you can not have a dnd jump, where main characters cannot solo gods. Gods are after all a major part of the setting. Even if you will never play as one in the rpg.None the less instead of trying to shoehorn beings god or elder evil into your jump about being a DnD adventure. It makes way more sense to put that stuff in it own jump.
Anyone know any good way in Forgotten Realms/DnD 3.5 for a monster to get a human form?I am thinking of redoing an Old build in the newer jump about being a Rejkar(https://www.realmshelps.net/monsters/block/Rejkar), which is a creature that can use at will Fabricate, meaning instead of spending hours and days crafting objects, it can make one every six seconds, which stacks really well with good crafting perks on offer. But I am not really keen on spending the entire jump looking like a large mishapen Stag. After looking a bit into it(which wasn't easy as nobody seems to care for this particular issue)Best option I can think of are the Humanoid Shape invocation Dragonfire Adepts get(6th level at earlierst), but its just so thematically clashing.Otherewise the only class feature I know is from the Mortal Hunter prestige cllass who can turn into beings they kill by grafting flesh into themsleves. But that is both kinda disgusting and 3.0 material that never got update.Among Items I only know the Fleshshifter Armor(armor made form human skin that gives you at will alter self) and the Phylactery of Change which gives you a continous polymorph once per day, but both are 3.0 material. There's also the Skin of Proteus psionic Psychoactive Skin item that basically gives you at will Polymorph, but for some weird reason creatures larger than medium can use Psychoactive Skins. Is anyone aware of any other options?
>>98716682Surely there's a form you could take as a Druid that's close enough?
>>98716682Well how about a dragonfire Adept from Dragon Magic. It's a dragon based prestige class apparently.
>>98716734Druids can only Wild Shape into animals and at very high levels into elementals.Though I guess using it as entry for Master of Many forms which does learn turning into humanoids is possible. It takes a bit effort to have the effect going all the time, but thematically it may be the best option. Thanks for reminding me.>>98716752first option I mentioned and really the best viable one I know, the way the theme clashes is just horrible.Like this is an ice based fiend that looks like a stag, it having a class about immitating dragons with fire breath and all, just doesen't fit at all.Like I'd still do it if I dont find a better option, but thats why I am asking.
>>98716682It's from the Book of Erotic Fantasy version of the Jump, but a level 10 Kundala gets>Alternate Form (Su): At 10th level, a kundala can assume any humanoid form of Medium size or smaller as a standard action once per day. This ability functions as a poly- morph spell cast on itself at its caster level, except the kundala can only assume the form of a humanoid. At 15th level, a kundala can use the ability three times per day. Upon reaching 20th level, the kundala can shift into an alternate humanoid or monstrous humanoid form at will. So, 450CP. Outside of magic shenanigans, that is. You could take a feat that lets you change what you cast your spell as. Alternative Source Spell.https://www.realmshelps.net/charbuild/feat/Alternative_Source_SpellYou could then cast Polymorph as a Divine spell and Persistent Spell it with Divine Metamagic as a Cleric. You'd need to dip an Arcane caster for Alternative Source Spell. Just take Natural Persistent Metamagic. I just got out of the gym, I'm too tired to look up the math for all this or look up how much that race costs. Sorry.
>>98716682Dragons can use polymorph and alter self to disguise as a human. So become a wizard, or get a ring that lets you cast it.
>>98716682>>98716949Just a Cleric with the Trickery Domain and Divine Metamagic Persistent Spell. There you be. I was making it needlessly hard.
Question, how powerful is jumper with just the elf perks in jrp traitor. They seem less straight forward powerful than the other perk trees.
>>98716682You'd need 7 Turn or Rebuke Undead attempts. Cleric gives you 3. A Charisma of 18 gives you 4.Base Stats:>Str 17, Dex 10, Con 16, Int 20, Wis 15, Cha 1515-Point Buy:>Str 17, Dex 10, Con 16, Int 20, Wis 15, Cha 18That actually works out perfectly. You could lower other stats by 2 to juggle them around more, but the free points from the buy get you to 18. Extend Spell, Persistent Spell, and Divine Metamagic is 3 Feats, and a Class Level 7 Cleric gets 3 Feats. You also have to be Class Level 7 for Cleric anyways because you have to be able to cast the Divine Polymorph from the Trickery Domain. That's 200CP for the race, 300CP for the Class Level 7 Cleric. I lied, I did the math anyways.
>>98716976In 3.5 they rely on specific racial abilities to transform since polymorph and alter self have way too short of a duration for a sustained disguise.>>98716949That class is cool, but not sure about using the erotic jump.I guess looking into daily persisting alter self or polymorph as a spellcaster could be worth it. Thanks for the idea.>>9871700>>98717208Thanks but looking at it trickery domain does not get alter self or polymorph. It does have Polymorph any Object though, which could permanently transform my jumper all by itself.Though getting 8th level casting is a whole thing by itself.Maybe I should get it as a scroll for 3k and just figure out how to pass a DC 35 UMD Check?Using it to permanently turn into a Bralani could be cool.Or I guess I could do your alternate source spell persist idea as a Chameleon.Would take a few months but at 9th level it can cast 5th level spells and turn undead 3 times per day, which is enough for a persisted alter self into a tiefling/aasimar.As class it's also not the worst to go with my crafting focus, given all the spells it can access.
>>98717283>trickery domain does not get alter selfGod fucking damnit. Weak Googlefu and tired, but yeah, Alternative Source Spell Divine Polymorph. Alter Self couldn't turn you into a Humanoid. My math is all fucked up. You'd need to be a 9th level Cleric for 3 feats. Might be better to just Gestalt or go Chameleon. Sorry. Dread Necromancer and Death Master don't get Polymorph so you'd need Arcane Disciple or Extra Spell if you go the Gestalt route.
>>98717283>but not sure about using the erotic jumpNone of that shit outside of what you buy is active unless you take the drawback. This is why people bitching about the first version I made annoyed me so. Like, the Tome or Leadership was rolled into Erotic because the other origins it didn't fit in. There's no reason not to just use that document and not take the drawback.
>>98717349>Alter Self couldn't turn you into a HumanoidTieflings an Aasimar are native outsiders by default(only the lesser variants are humanoids).
>>98717376I'm all over the fucking place today. L, me. Cheaper to just dip Cleric and Wizard for a few levels at that point with Alternative Source Spell and Natural Persistent Metamagic. I wish I could delete posts more readily on 4chan.
Beside Legend of the Five Rings and Immortal Handbooks, are there any jumps being worked on in the bunker?
>>98719148I've resumed work on Generic Oneeshota and will be doing a jump for 13 Ghosts for Halloween.
>>98719176Still planing to do that Warcraft jump in November?
>>98719213Yup, Lewd Warcraft will start after 13 Ghosts, though I suspect it'll take longer than a month to get done.
>>98719224I don't think you'll need lewd perks for every classes, races, factions and forms of magic. But even without that, yes, it has a lot of content to go through.
How do you guys reason the price of the drawbacks. I tend to prefer drawbacks that give a lot of points, mostly because I see most drawbacks as being nasty enough to make jumper go it not worth the points.
>>98716682(me)Okay, I think I finally found the most satsifying solution.Apparently Wizard published a feat called Infernal Adept on their website that allowed Warlocks and Dragonfire Adepts to take each other invocation, as long as it's at least two ranks lower than the highest Invocation they can cast. Meaning a Warlock can take the Humanoid Shape invocation at levle 16, instead of level 6, but it does have the advantage that warlocks at level 12 get the Imbue Magic ability which lets them create magic items as if they have access to all spells, which stacks really well. Especially since they can also easily activate all magic items. So sotcking up on wands/staves, potion, scrolls, gems and runestones of all kinds spells and using them is very viable.Warlock as class is also probalbly the most fitting one for a fiend.Though starting at level 16 would be way too expensive, I guess my jumper is just gonna have to try keep hidden while training for a few months. Shouldn't be too hard to charm and bribe a few people into supporting him.So as is my build is gonna look like thisJump: 3.5 Forgotten Realms D&DCP:1000Age: 38Gender: MaleOrigin: ExpertRace: Rejkar -200CPAlignment: Lawful EvilLocation: WaterdeepClass Level: 12 level leves of warlock (650)Perks:>Skill Monkey -free>Academic Knowledge -free>Artisan Craftsman -200>Magical Artisan -300: additional feats, Craft Construct, Inscribe Rune, Attune Gem and Create Portal. Signature trait is Shrouded, all items have faint aura of cool mist.General Items:>Gold Value -50: Thought Bottle >Mithral Chain Shirt +4 -Free>Glass of Distance -FreeDrawbacks:>That Guy +200>Short Attention Span +200Thought Bottle was a must buy to help mitigate the xp cost of creating items while still training to level up. Especially since making Gems and Runes is way quicker than normal items, so its gonna be spend way more regularly.

>>98720675>I can only imagine what the writers were thinking when they made that. How highly fucking specific.I kinda get the idea, like there are two classes with different invocation lists, so giving them some way to access each other does make sense, though it being two ranks lower hurts. >>98720553(me)Do you thinks it too far to wank that my jumper can craft magic items a lot quicker in Forgotten realms since he has the ability to cast fabricate at will(as he's a Rejkar), meaning he can instantly craft any objects out of their base materials and is a warlock, meaning he can use magic instantly without incantations/movement as often as he wants, in addition to all the crafting and magic item creation perks.Like I am just not really sure what he'd be doing if he went with the Rules as Written time of item creation. If you can instantly cast magic and put objects together, what does your day actually look like in the 2 months you're spending 8 hours a day to make a single golem.Even the 8 hours a day limit is a bit silly if you dont need food and rest and your magic does not need to recharge in any way.
>Spell-Like Abilities (Sp)A spell-like ability takes the same amount of time to complete as the spell that it mimics (usually 1 standard action) unless otherwise stated.>Fabricate>Duration: InstantaneousCasting requires 1 round per 10 cubic feet (or 1 cubic foot) of material to be affected by the spell. So, a round or 6 seconds. Quicken Spell-Like Ability would make it effectively instant, but you don't qualify for that because because your Fabricate is cast as a 5th level spell and it would have to be 10th level. You make things in 6 seconds at the lowest. That's the advantage of Fabricate.I saw this question on 8. I assumed you'd post it here. My mind is everywhere.
>>98731183I am aware that I can basically instantly craft normal items through fabricate thats what the combo is for. This question is mostly about the process of actual creation of magic items which by default take one 8 hour work day for every 1000gp of the price(with the exceptions of potions which always take 1 day, Gems which take 1 hour and Runes which take 10 minutes + the Casting time of the spell). It just seems silly that someone who can make items that fast and invoke magic effects in a standard action would need over a month to make a +4 sword for example. like in the same time he can make over 150k non-magical masterwork swords.
>>98731105>>98731227The magic item creation rules assume you already have the base item you'll be turning into a magic item so having access to Fabricate doesn't change a thing there. RAW for magic item creation doesn't care about your ability to spam spells either. If you want an interpretation, it could be another kind of magic you have separate and extant limits for or it could be the capacity of an object to accept an enchantment over time. As in if you tried to blast in all that magic at once the object would just break instead of getting enchanted. Those are just examples, you can come up with your own justification if you like.
>>98731261>The magic item creation rules assume you already have the base item you'll be turning into a magic item so having access to Fabricate doesn't change a thing thereI mean, a lot of items do mention an extensive construction process using alchemical ingredies and oils and the like, but point taken you can typically just enchant a base item as is.>RAW for magic item creation doesn't care about your ability to spam spells either. If you want an interpretation, it could be another kind of magic you have separate and extant limits for or it could be the capacity of an object to accept an enchantment over time. As in if you tried to blast in all that magic at once the object would just break instead of getting enchanted. Those are just examples, you can come up with your own justification if you like.I guess I could just treat it as standing there for 8 hours a day and continously infusing the object with magic. A bit more boring than I was imagining the process, but makes enough sense.I'd probably try to offload the duty to premade magic items though, given the existence of things like the Quill of Scribing and Dedicated Wrights(they're Eberron material but I see no reason why they would be impossible to make) jumper could probably figure out something like that using the magic system.

If you can terraform any single planet into a custom garden world in no more than a years' time, how much do you ask for in a setting like Mass Effect?
>>98737670depends on how this interacts with the chain
>>98737670Terraforming in Mass Effect takes centuries. I'm not sure what your question is. If you're talking about using Stellaris-like super technology to transform a planet and how valuable that would be, the answer is it fundamentally changes the balance of power in the setting. It's worth entire races in terms of value. Once the Reapers are dealt with, that is.
>>98737708I kind of feel like mass effect reapers are kind of lead weight in how they were handled, story wise.Stopping the reapers from arriving in mass effect one, should have lasted long enough to let either the galaxy build up enough to have a fighting chance. Or they should have had a game about figuring out how to fight the reapers.I kind of want a mass effect jump, that just delays the reaper arrival so one can focus on what a political mess the galaxy is. Council are dicks, Qurians want to commit suicide by Geth, Krogon are a tragedy not worth the effort to fix, Geth show their desire for peace by killing everyone who approaches them.Dnd question, how good is the local magic system at creating something from nothing. Are the gith better at it?
>>98737970>Dnd question, how good is the local magic system at creating something from nothing.Nta, but pretty bad. There are low level spells for specific materials like create water, but most low-mid spells are temporary in their creations save for some exception like the wall of iron and wall of salt spells. While more freeform ones like minor/major creation are temporary.Even the highest level spells that do create stuff permanently freeform like True Creation and Wish require a large amount of XP to be expended.
>>98738696Take Dweomerkeeper Prestige and or Chosen of Magic in my Jump. Dweomerkeeper Prestige starts at level 5 and can cast one spell a day at no cost to start, and Chosen of Mystra / Magic get one spell a day of each tier to cast at no cost because they're Spell-Like Abilities.
>>98737970The short answer is "it depends", but it is generally difficult. PERMANENT matter creation tends to be difficult unless you do shit like spam Wall of Stone/Iron (they're both level 5 spells), but anything beyond that runs into the problem >>98738696 mentioned, in that magical materials tend to cost a lot of money since the base system was balanced around money = power through magic items.Dweomerkeeper lets you cast Supernatural Spells, which basically negates all components for them (and spell resistance). This is obviously highly abusable. However you are probably better off mining for whatever materials you want on their respective elemental planes.Extremely powerful outsiders like Pit Fiends, Balors, even Solars can use wishes as spell like abilities, which have no cost. Binding said outsiders is not too difficult if you know what you're doing.
>>98739877IIRC most spells that "create" permanent matter actually conjure it from some other plane. The spells published aren't all the spells that can possibly exist. You can create original spells as well. In the absence of a greater power (the devs, a DM) enforcing balance it should be possible to create Wall of Gold or whatever but given that no one has there's probably a power in universe that can and will take you out if you try to break the system so tread lightly.
>>98739877>Extremely powerful outsiders like Pit Fiends, Balors, even SolarsCheese strat in the various Jumps is having Efreeti companions. Challenge rating 8, 3 Wishes a day, but they can't use it on themselves, they have to grant Wishes.
>>98739961Yeah, but efreeti are only middle-powered besides that. Makes sense though, if you can chainbind efreeti you can have infinite wishes.>>98739957Yeah, those are Conjuration (Creation) spells. For Jumps you have the advantage of being your own DM so as long as it's reasonable it should be allowed.
>>98739961Reminder that you can totally waifu them as human. The first Sha'ir literally had 4 wives, the princesses of one of each species Genie, including an Efreeti princess.
>>98737670What tech you using and how easy is it to mass produce. If it is a single item then it is still valuable, but not as much as one that every faction can get their hands on and start using en mass. If you want a good item, DCEU has one that terraforms in days instead of a year.
>>98740445the terraform seeds from an Orion's Arm jump. you only get 5 but a used up one replenishes after a month of it's use.
>>98740727That sounds like a good to use item.
>>98740431Where can I read up more about this? I like the cut of the first Shair's jib
>>98741615It's mentioned in the 2nd edition lore book Al Qadim Land of Fate.where we learn the story of how the first Sha'ir got his power.I cant post the pdf but googling it someone else posted the story alone herehttps://www.worldanvil.com/w/al-qadim---frank-dronin/a/the-boy-and-the-genies-articleThough I seem to have misremembered them being princesses and instead they're each just stunningly beautiful women of their races chosen by the Genie Lords. But I could have sworn I read in a different section that they were daughters.Interestingly a later book introduces an item which was supposdely made by the First Sha'ir later in life, which reveals that he eventually got into conflict with the genie lords and created an item that can command any genie.
>>98740431(me)>>98739961I started reading more of the Al-Quadim books and worth noting that apparently they considered this and Efreeti can get in trouble with their superiors if they keep granting wishes to their friends>Due to their wish-granting ability, efreet have been exploited by mortals for eons, especially humans. As a result, efreet feel suspicion and spite for that race. The efreet capture or torment almost anyone they can, carrying suitable slaves back to the Plane of Fire for training at one of the outposts. Mortals who spoon out healthy portions of praise (and treasure) may find these genies more amenable, as may characters who seek to use an efreeti’s power to the detriment of other mortals. >All efreet enjoy creating excitement, havok, and destruction, particularly if they cannot be held personally responsible. (“Very sorry about your inn, most worthy mortal. I would have spared it if the sha’ir had permitted me to do so. But such was not the case, alas.”)>As noted above, any wish an efreeti grants will be reviewed by efreet superiors (perhaps even the eftreet’s sultan). Superiors are both malevolent in nature and exacting in their bookkeeping.>None looks favorably upon an efreeti who dispenses wishes like sweets to the benefit of others. An efreeti whose wish-granting is questioned must offer evidence of two circumstances: (1) the wish was granted against the efreeti’s will or better judgment (for example, the efreeti was imprisoned, threatened, ensorceled, or otherwise forced to act in a manner against its will); and (2) the efreeti proved its innate superiority by turning the wish against the user, thereby teaching the individual an important lesson (namely, don’t ask anything of an efreeti). Efreet usually grant a malicious wish, but in a manner ensuring that the character who requests the baleful wish will be harmed along with the target of itI know its 2nd edition so it doesent matter, but still worth keeping in mind.
>>98742002I'd say it's one of the editions that matter. Also 2e Marids are way better than their versions in later editions, and Noble Marids are best Jumper waifus because they're 22+ feet tall sexy blue giantesses with level 30 spellcasting ability and Alter Reality.
>>98736897I figured out what they changed when the site was down. So, they previously made it that if you reset your cache, among a number of other things, you built up a sort of varyingly weighted tally against you. Resetting your cache just seemed to be the worst of those. What they changed was what happens when you do so now. There is now a cumulative and exponential delay before it lets you try to verify by email if you reset your cache. The highest it goes is a 16 hour delay, which is basically just a ban, and it resets to 16 hours with every cache reset. I'm not sure just how close it's tied to your IP range because I didn't look when brute forcing it, but it keeps track of the email you use to make sure you eat the delay. This will only inconvenience bots and whatnot that do not already have the ability to switch IP and don't have access to multiple semi-legit emails. 4chan traffic has been down for some time, by my understanding, and most normal people will not have the 'tism to figure out how it actually works to get around it. I only caught it because I was generating images off-site and wanted to scam more free ones, I wasn't banned here or anything. There has to be an easier way to ban bots, Canadians, and Jews than this.
Shard? Still not insane from writing all these perks?
>>98742718I got into D&D around the release of BG1, which was also at the twilight of 2e and the dawn of 3e. Thus I have a soft spot for both editions. Are there any good 2e jumps?
>>98742718Noble Marids are just ridiculously better than everyone, period. No other noble genie gets spellcasting and Noble Marids get level 30, that's literal maximum mortal spellcasting ability. Which makes them the best lovely assistants for a mage.
>>98742718>>98743807>AckchuallyI doublechecked the description and it says that the SLAs they get are at the 30th level of spell ability:>detect evil/good, detect invisibility, detect magic, invisibility, assume liquid form, polymorph self, and purify water. Twelve times per day they can assume gaseous form, lower water, part water, create a wall of fog, or bestow water breathing on others for up to one full week. They can cast airy water, control weather, cone of cold, and solid fog once per day.Which is still decent, but not 30th level archmage OP and more in line with the other nobles. Daos are ugly and efreeti are cunts though, so having a noble marid + noble djinn concubine combo is probably the best.
>>98743787Our Dark Sun remake and Planescape jumps are based on 2e.
>>98743905Oh yeah, planescape, I did that one!I should go check out Dark Sun. Thanks!
>>98743787Check the D&D folder in Series, there's also BG1 and Ravenloft.
>>987437049 more to go, thanks to a relatively productive train ride home.
>>987441929 perks or 9 perk lines?
>>987443739 more people running the train.
>>98744373Perklines. Doing some quick and funny game math because Imperial Mysteries was generous enough to stat up Shiba and use him as a baseline for the Kami Kids, and I got a few funny ideas about what I wanna do over in the white room thread (my personal autism asylum, sometimes feat. Argent) after I'm done with L5R. I've finally found a game system with the balls to stat out wuxia heroes/Achilles without his invul/Paul Bunyan/Maui instead of doig what Warhammer Fantasy does, and kind of just leave it all as vague folklore/a single novel flashback.
I have bad news, everyone. They're making another Glory Ann Boggs series. They're subscribergating it again. If it turns out they make Granny White powercreep every other Deep Thing in the series before inevitably falling to a chunky old woman so that GAB powercreeps Daughter Dooley, you're all on your own.
>>98746808Is there any Deep Thing that earned the hype? One whose defeat cost the lives of many heroes of the Green? Because it looks like the moment the heroes are not regular guys, they crush whatever Deep Thing they were fighting so hard, it really should have stayed asleep.
>>98746889Not one. Being totally upfront: Not a single one, and for all their fuckups and weaknesses, so far Barrow has been hard carrying the Inner Dark. This is DEFINITELY because early in the series the writers didn't feel they need to escalate as much as they did, but the damage. Is. Done. Old Copperhead is explicitly the loser of the Deep Things and got treated as such. The Sentinel is barely more successful than it and is treated as an immobile garbage disposal, and is automatically deducted cool points by the writers for being fuelled by racism (specifically KKK killings). Granny White talked a good game but in the end got folded along with her TWO OTHER colleagues up there by Glory-Ann. One fucking witch of the green dogwalked these freaks, it's a wonder they aren't ruling America. They are trying rebuild Horned Head's reputation slowly and patiently even though technically fighting Daughter Dooley is supposed ot be mega impressive because she was supposed to be the strongest witch in the setting, but even with all the character shilling his greatest onscreen, confirmed victory to date is abducting a small scared child and goring Jack (who isn't particularly formidable, physically). The Swarm finally came back after 4 fucking seasons and STILL seems to be a B&L errand boy. The senior Hollow Men probably snigger at the fucker. At this point Old Green Eyes is the most successful Deep Thing purely because he DOESN'T DO ANYTHING except hang out with Skint Tom and just enjoy life.
>>98746889Also I specified Barrow because honestly, I am NOT impressed with 80% of what we've seen from the Locke family so far. Jonah/Solomon is genuinely some kind of prodigy compared to the others and it doesn't matter because after the timeskip he still has all the fine control of a broken hose. Patience, previously assumed to be a madwoman, is hard carrying the family along with him for the opposite reason: She actually is daddy's favourite kid and learned the vague Locke portal magic the long, hard way. All the other Lockes had to FLEE or get fucked from one (1) Thing of uncertain powerlevel called the Arbiter that was bound into a flesh golem of sorts when the Railway Man freed it. By the way, remember when you could dodge the Railway Man by just jumping off the tracks before he had time to seed his "employment offers" or a random witch could simply shank him with a magic knife to send him away screaming? THAT guy has been improving his street cred a lot more proactively than Horned Head, and it's made VERY clear that in it's present state the Locke family does NOT want to fuck with him....All of this makes the fact that him, along with every other theoretically big mean nasty thing gone bump in the dark, got fucked over by random desperate young women/crabby old women throughout the series all the funnier if you think about it.
>>98725078What made the generic perks actually interesting to write? Unlike the origins?
assuming Bleach is my first jump, how well would Aizen adapt to me fucking around with his plot? is he actually as smart as the glaze says he is?
>>98747532Aizen is unironically a fraud hard carried by Kyoka Suigetsu. If you're strong enough that he doesn't statcheck you and can play around his illusions, he is genuinely and unironically fucked.
My device can't properly process the captcha equivalent at the bunker anymore, so I can only post back here. I fondly recall when such measures did not exist anywhere.

>>98747779stop being a bitch and force it
>>98747779Disable all access to the internet and other distractions.
>>98747779Find the formatting you want to use, and write the bones of that format. Figure out the origins, and then fill in the rest of the bones with "Discounted: Origin 1, etc". I'll have bullet points underneath whatever I'm writing while broadly transferring information to it from wikis or screenshots. Like:-remember the range and conditions-special circumstance-exceptional example Always try to figure out what everything is, IMO, before you start writing. It comes and goes. I can do 20 or more perks and items in a day if I lock-in once I know what everything is supposed to be, but I don't do that often because I'm overly anal about specifics and crazy. Aim to do 3 or 4 of whatever you're writing that day. I always do perks and items last. Story > Intro > Origin > Locations> Drawbacks > Companions > Perks > Items > Notes

>>98750244Who are the OC's faceclaims?
>>98750787Aizen is intelligent, and he sure as hell wants people to BELIEVE he's smart, but literally every single plan he has is hard carried by:>1. his ability to make perfect undetectable illusions automatically fooling anyone without the need to ever actually manipulate them2. his gigantic personal power that can roflstomp anyone who can bypass his illusionsAizen may be a great scientist and wizard with deep knowledge of soul science and spellwork, but the intelligence he wants you to believe in, the mastermind who is always three steps ahead and has already thought his way around your plans and countered you in advance, that's a mask, a facade propped up by pure force, because every time his plans fail, every time someone outsmarts him, he can just show his unimaginable raw power and win anyway, and then pretend that it was because of his cunning. When someone actually outsmarts him, he's completely blindsided- when Ichigo beats him at the end he genuinely just devolves to delusional screeching.
Incoming changelog for incoming L5R update on the bunker>she-beast actually has a price now>fixed a typo in A Necessary Evil>>98750808the what now>>98752431Well, it sure as hell seems to have fooled most of the fanbase.
>>98752839Your OC companions, who are they inspired by?
>>98750244You put a lot of effort into this just by how big it is, and while I can appreciate that, putting so much effort into things people apparently don't know won't get you much attention. I'm not saying that to say don't, but it's something to consider. I don't expect replies for the weird sex shit that I make (except Skyrim that one time). Also:>having four choosable discount setups is verboten >instead of 50CP General Perks, make them bundles and or add them as free 100CP options for originsI didn't read the whole thing, but if I'm bitching at 9 for being a 'tard, I can bitch at you. General Perks should be used to house things that are actually universal or truly sit nowhere else. In a world where everyone is fit, having a fitness General Perk is fine, and maybe even a level of fitness for free. I don't know the setting to say what you can justify, but in a Jump with two 600CP perks per origin, being nickled and dimed over 50CP perks is stupid. You're not even using the 100/300/600 format to justify it. Even if something is comparatively extraordinary, let's use Bleach as an example, having the option to see spirits for free is something that should be expected even if you wouldn't otherwise invest in your spiritual abilities. I lean more on the functional side of things. Don't get caught up in the weeds.
>>98752839there's a L5R jump too? damn, I need to look it up.
>>98754798>putting so much effort into things people apparently don't know won't get you much attentionWhy are you so obsessed with attention whoring on the internet?
Shard? Since Immortal Handbook includes super Liches, does it include high-end psionic entities? Like advanced Elder Brains or some other things?
>>98754798>putting so much effort into things people apparently don't know won't get you much attention. I'm not saying that to say don't, but it's something to consider. Appreciated but that has literally never been a concern for me. From the moment I started jumpmaking, I have only ever had one goal: There were settings without jumps, and I would like them to have jumps if possible so I can interact with them in Jumpchain. Full stop. I care about making good jumps so feedback matters, but ultimately positive attention is a happy accident. I want there to be a jump enough to make the jump myself. That's all. That aside, let's talk shop. We have 35 minutes before I'm hitting the gym.>General Perks should be used to house things that are actually universal or truly sit nowhere else. I agree. I don't know if you've been looking at my other work, but I don't exactly go out of my way to break the mould unless I feel it's merited.I truly feel it's merited here after looking at the system, because of the way L5R 4e stats goblins, samurai, and gods with the exact same system. To use a D&D analogy, there are no special Epic Level rules or CR ratings for PCs and NPCs. With very few and always limited exceptions, everyone gets a one size fits all way to interact with everyone else. You are MEANT to be able to interact with gods and legendary demons on the SAME terms.>to justify itAnd I haven't, because I don't feel it works.>the functional side of thingsThat is PRECISELY why I felt it was necessary. Again, L5R does not do like D&D. The game and narrative are meant to be so compatible you can build a buff Crane, a Lion destined to be the best wizard ever, so on. Here is Exhibit A to hopefully save us both time and energy, as a starting point.>>98756233I think so. Not rereading until next week to clear out the cortisol from rage at Daigotsu and to a lesser extent, the playerbase.>>98754012Enlightenment.
>>98754798Okay, here's Exhibit B: A god, a goblin, and a samurai are all statted here in the game. Notice the total parity of statblocks. I'd rather not spam the thread with Exhibits so I'm hoping I can make my point neatly here. Notice the base magic system is analogous. Here is something noteworthy: Toku is not a samurai until the end of the war, lorewise he is a really honourable peasant. He has the Great Destiny, Kharmic Tie and max Luck Advantages to represent the level of bullshit he can get away with. The game system ACCOUNTS for him being like this.I have already smoothed over things by not, say, nickle and diming people over which rank of gameplay luck you have; as far as I care, if you pay CP for random things you might as well get the best ones. The existing system I have is trying to strike a balance between the game DELIBERATELY being persnicky about who gets what to depict the capabilities of the characters. The abilities I have presented are GENUINELY universal to the extent that demons and abominations have the SAME SHIT. The game seriously takes the premise that sometimes, even if you don't train to see spirits at all in your life, you can just be blessed by the Hungry Realm or have a third eye that can see spirits JUST BECAUSE. And the LORE supports this.>...make them bundles and or add them as free 100CP options for originsBasically, the point I'm trying to make is I think these make the jump too off-kilter from the setting. The option to just...NOT have discounts exists I guess, but when the game also starts every PC off with a generous 40 XP stipend to spend on whatever, I already feel like I'm being stingy so I'd feel bad about to.I am striking a balance between the Jumpchain format and both the L5R nomic assumptions for PCs as well as how it presents plot relevant entities in its wider narrative. If you have a better idea now I've laid the facts out, I'm all ears.
Update: After some discourse elsewhere, I'm thinking of making Ronin a drawback. You will be shunned, whatever your race. This will give me all the justification I need to make the human origins all cost the same (free) for risk-reward parity purposes.
>>98756642Two votes. The ayes, both of them, have it.
Changelog>Ronin is now a drawback
>>98756765I appreciate you posting jumps and updates both here and on the bunker. The other thread can be a bit too fast and/or offtopic for my liking.
>>98756020Shard is a Chinaman. When I see him putting in effort doing a Chinaman-themed Jump, I am just trying to temper his Chinaman expectations. I am a hornyman. My love language is much more universal, and not as strange.>>98756299>the point I'm trying to make is I think these make the jump too off-kilter from the setting. And that is where we differentiate. I believe sticking to a coherent format is more important than representing a setting in totality. It will always be preferable to me to drop the formating from 2 100/2 200/2 400/2 600 or 100/200/400/600 to 100/300/600 and be consistent throughout the document than miss aspects of that. I would do Dragon Age differently were I to make it now. Origins lacking 100CP options will always bother me more. Your position is already clear by the DC Collab Jump. I don't know the setting, but I can reasonably trust your translation of the setting by the quality of the other Jumps you have made. The lack of formating is what bothers me. I am just here with the eternal spray bottle of "no, don't do that".
>>98756265For what it worth, I love the jump. Going to take me a while to read it.As for the general perks they look fine. I guess it bit vague what the 100/200/300 cp bunshi and courtier translate too. Not sure if 300 cp susposed to be in gameplay terms like rank five in school and solid set of stats to back it up, or much stronger than pc.My worry about making ronin into a drawback is drawbacks tend to be fiat backed. And I like the idea of a ronin managing to get accepted by a clan (just look at a 20 goblin winter) or otherwise managing to get socially accepted. It is a good story that drawback fiat would prevent.Maybe include tiers to the ronin drawback. The first tier has no fiat backing so can be overcome by jumpers with the right skill set. Second tier makes it much harder.>>98754798Issue in this rpg, their a whole lot of diversity in the clans. Every clan has people good at fighting, social situations and magic, but not a lot of people good at all three.Like I totally see your point. But in this case general perks seem to me at a first glance stuff that common everywhere but not universal.
>>98756299Yep totally agree with you here.Through not a LR5 expert, I did assume narrative characters were not intended to be stat in this game. From what I understand rpg characters tend to die quickly when outnumbered or facing say a oni.The kind of samurai who go kill the god would have plot device stat rating, or just be absurdly statted out. Thinking of how world of darkness power level ten abilities were labeled plot device, while pc were generally limited to power level 5.
>>98756899No worries, I'm a big believer in The Process(TM) of critique, warts and and inexplicable, possibly geopolitically motivated rangebans and all.>>98757368Fair enough. For what it's worth, I don't do things like this unless I feel both the system and setting make a point of being extra granular about things like this. I do not for example wish for anyone to sit down and math out every step of the journey in OSR-style ye olde D&D and that's why I've entirely skipped levels, classes, racial nitty-gritty and skill ranks in Veins of the Earth. The setting has spoken loud and clear there: All is an abstraction, all is mystique and the bants, you are either badass enough to become a legend there or you're wormfood, and sometimes things just kind of happen. If Stuart and Raggi want to be cheeky, I might as well work with 100 CP perks.>>98757409>it bit vagueSo, remember what I said about how granular and AMBITIOUS the L5R 4e system is? Well, they use the EXACT SAME system for "poor ronin form a crude shield wall and stick you with their pointy spears" and "you channel the power of Weeb Hell into fucking Haki" with minor adjustments in mechanical powerlevel. 300 CP is Rank 5 with appropriate skills, and I was deliberately vaguer about the other purchases because I am making SOME effort to avoid micromanaging.>roninTo be clear you are just like any other ronin in the setting with all the risk and all the potential upside; I did try to hint at this with the freedom yapping in the drawback. The drawback is you're out on your ass, wave-manning it. I don't want to make being a ronin any harder because honestly, it's a raw enough deal already without becoming destined for it. Being a ronin in L5R is, blatantly, the writers' idea of living out both the aura farming and the gritty bleak end of a Kurosawa movie.
>>98757443>I did assume narrative characters were not intended to be stat in this game. It's funny: I THOUGHT this would be the case when I started making the jump. The last time /tg/ gave a shit about L5R I kept remembering things like "you're supposed to treat this like serious ancient japan! Even magic and Hell powers have consequences!" and "We don't talk about ninjas in polite company, even if sometimes you need a real hardcore ninja to stand on business, you never let anyone know!" and "DON'T DUEL THE CRANE, it's politically cancerous!". And to be fair, this MAY have been the case with older editions too. From the few supplements I read, I think they went a bit ham on the more exotic parts of the setting, but I don't have a deep dive on how shit worked in core. I THOUGHT it worked like what you said....then while reading various books in 4e, I found not just gods and demons but THIS SEPHIROTH-LOOKING MOTHERFUCKER who RUINS THE ENTIRE SETTING BY EXISTING IN IT WHILE JUST MOCKING THE PREMISE OF REALISM has a full goddamn statblock. I was honestly more shocked by this than finding functional stats for gods, demons, the god-killer samurai (who are literally just extra buff dudes that use the same gimmicks as everyone else, without even unique powers like the inhuman beings) or agents of the primordial darkness before existence. He makes Raistlin and Vecna's wank look reasonable and well-thought out in comparison, because at the very least they didn't unknowingly make ASIAN LUCIFER'S heart grow three sizes and RELEARN HOW TO LOVE to cultivate into the immortal realm. I have tried to make clear in the jump that for 99.99% of people, the Taint is a horrible experience that isn't worth it.I have also tried to make clear this man, who has stats and can theoretically be played, dabs on that limit so fucking hard /he rewrote how Taint works so anyone can use it safely/
>>98759179I do wonder how much this gameplay breaks when you just throw a bunch of commoners with hunting bows at a god. I know in a lot of rpg, you’re going to rapidly wrack up the critical hits.Who would win in DnD ancient dragon or eldritch horror, or enough crossbows to get 50 nat 20 a round. Fear the thousand peasent army, with ten feet gap between peasants to minimize Aoe and maximize pain.Does friend of feng Lu work if you have wholesome friends with good people, or does it only work on people who murder enough babies.Does son of jigoku risk taint on your or risk making the world worse. Is their any perk to get a foreign magic system accepted beyond maybe the bit too extreme, necessary evil. Also I laughed so much as spider perk tree. I do not know enough about the settings to recall the detail of the bs. But I could not help but notice 100:cp for making objectivist paradise. Man there got to be a story behind that.
JRPG Traitor, The Sad Tale of the Brothers Grossbart, and The Power Fantasy just got a bunch of typo fixes I've uploaded.>gameplayThe setting kind of assumes that peasants get splattered, driven mad, infected with something awful or otherwise taken out of action before they get in god-shooting range. The setting also demonstrably takes Shinsei's stance that fortune favours the mortal man. I don't THINK the rules make it feasible for peasants to shoot a Kami sibling to death, but if they do well-the writers kind of soft-acknowledged that humanity can just do things like that when the stars are right.>friend of fu lengSpecifically baby-murderers and the like, most of the setting rightfully treats Daigotsu like the monster he is>son of jigoku Astonishingly enough, NO not unless you really go out of your way to spray your Taint Haki destructively, given how the L5R storyline resolved Daigotsu having all of the cake and getting to eat it too>any perkGrinning Crane Takes Flight, just social fu at them.>spider perk treeIt is based on, canonically, what ALL the Spider main characters plot relevant enough to get statblocks in Enemies of the Empire are written like instead of just dying as mooks/blood sacrifices. I hate that it is. I hate this so much.

Any further issues with L5R? If not, this will be the final version I post either tonight or tomorrow, depending on how outstanding any remaining issues are.https://drive.google.com/file/d/1zIv9fQOjlPmBqdho8lBancFNLPtfmw2B/view?usp=sharing>some typos corrected, including one that gave an OC excessive autism>Added Death On Two Legs>Added an option which lets you be a dirty gaijin if you take Gaijin Pepper Metaphysics, because upstanding Rokugani aren't supposed to know about such things>NOT an update, but I briefly wondered if Celestial Bushi should be buffed to have the Owl Clan's (Hantei's boys in the Togashi empire timeline) other disciplines as well. I ended up deciding against that because the majority of those are specific to that timeline out of necessity, and Hantei kicking ass is his main contribution in the prime L5R timeline. Maybe something along the lines of "the heavens favour you so much, any magic/fighting/courtier/artisan discipline you invent can channel their glorious power in some way"? Then again I'm not really sure if it even needs a buff, Hantei beat Onnotangu without fighting him while crippled and without grabbing bits of his power to bring to the fight
>>98761095>The exact capabilities of the gods are unclear and inconsistent to say the least, save that they unquestionably stand above all over spiritual forces short of a realm itself in puissance. So you shouldn't have offered it. Jesus, this is barely better than reddit slop.
>>98762134Please read the rest of the description and other relevant descriptions. The god that 90% of Tengoku got dogwalked by after he got one (1) extremely dedicated mostly-mortal follower to get a fuckload of acolytes' fate and stole the Judge of the Dead's instantdeath spear got jumped by 7 humans and defeated at the cost of only 6 of their lives the first time. The second time, when he was possessing the Emperor of not!Japan, 7 more jumped him and only 2 died. A very pissed off human imouto murdered Lord Moon by collecting some of his blood and using his severed hand as a prosthetic to lure him out and lend herself power, then other people killed his avatar which made him swoon like Sovereign feeling Saren's death and she cut him with a sword. Lord Moon is the king of the gods, one of the head honchos. Throughout the jump and in the scenarios, I've qualified ways gods can come into being, be felled, and what can challenge them.I am trying to balance the truth with mythopoeia for the asian vibes of the game. If I didn't want to do that, I would say the gods are somewhere between God of War 3 boss and Dragonlance deity level, but with more of an east asian vibe.I would not offer the gods if I genuinely felt they were utterly unquantifiable. I made a fuckhuge post on the bunker about god powerscaling I'm now going to show you to explain why gods are something the L5R equivalent of a JRPG party and the power of friendship can waste.
>>98762134The gods simultaneously have numinous, vague powers over destiny and the concept of reality they oversee on a level of making good harvests or sanctifying a weapon to smite Tainted creatures. The game kind of alludes to them being some sort of rarified spirit matter, but evidently getting around that is as simple as picking up a sacred weapon or casting magic; it's also suggested in some alternate histories that drastic cosmological shifts like iniquity rising in the mortal world can weaken some or drive other mad from imbalance. But they are also sufficiently flesh and blood that as long as you can actually go to Tengoku or have them show up in your realm of existence, you can fight them and beat them if you have a divine artifact. The most powerful gods can still commit seppuku, get hacked up by their children trained in the Celestial Dragons' plot device fighting style etc; they are mainly powerful because of the absoluteness of the domain they oversee. I want to say they have slightly better hands than, say, Bane from D&D. But ultimately, Fu Leng with Emma-O's weapon and FRIENDSHIP was kicking ass Dynasty Warriors-style in Heaven until the heroes found a way to trick him into doubting Daigotsu's loyalty (and thus cutting him off from the main of faith empowering him). So the mortal Kami siblings, while nerfed, apparently aren't THAT nerfed? The Seven Thunders all died beating and sealing Fu Leng the first time, but during the second only two died while he was possessing a mortal body at the time. Similar to Yu-Shan, it's implied some of Tengoku's greatest blessings are the collective effort of many gods with different domains working in harmony to influence destiny on a wider scale. 1/?
>>98762134>The most impressive things we've seen the main Rokugani pantheon do are Lady Sun sending down a meteor to clear a mountain pass for her supplicants, and in the Thousand Years of Darkness timeline the Celestial Dragon severing Tengoku from contact with Ningen-do. With foreign deities, a sun goddess who may or may not be Amaterasu LARPing destroyed all magic in the Burning Sands along with most of the Jinn race (who are considered mostly unkillable by the local humans. Evidently, nobody ever tried hard enough/was familiar with the Rokugan Bushido killstrats) with a big luminous smite. Kali-ma beat the shit out of Fu Leng even while he was Champion of Jigoku and had all his powers (but not the Friendship Faith stream), was empowered off ritual killings in her name, and her merely fighting nearby reshape terrain with her own spilt blood and topple buildings from the shockwaves. Worth noting that Kali-ma wasn't even at full strength during her full involvement, and that part of her power had been sealed off as an independent Oni.>TLDR they are harder to kill than Mortal Kombat's Raiden, but there is also not one among them that Kratos couldn't kill if he tried hard enough. Now, out of respect for the process of critique I'll leave off uploading if there are any further issues with these guys being a valid origin here, or if the idea of being a god in God of War or Okami is controversial.2/2
>>98762309Yeah, that kind of shit happens in mythology. It's still retarded to offer it just like it'd be retarded to offer godhood in a Greek Mythology jump just because Ares got trapped in a pot/stabbed by Diomedes/etc. 99% of the focus is on mortals doing things on a mortal scale.
>>98762327>Yeah, that kind of shit happens in mythologyHere's the thing. This is a setting where mythology regularly interacts with perfectly normal, human characters who deal with realpolitik, cultural stigma and cutthroat court politics in a world where /simultaneously/ the spirits of the elements are a known quality, folklore is more often true than not, and the emperor canonically has the power of deification. Let me be perfectly clear: The gods can, and have, been killed by mortal characters the game has actual stats for and intends for PCs to be able to potentially overcome. This has happened repeatedly enough in the metaplot, to characters as critical to the setting as Kratos is to God of War, for other characters to be wary of Rokugan in-universe. I am not using an exceptional justification to give you poorly alluded-to godhood with wanky OP powers far beyond any interaction. I am offering you the equivalent of being a sub-Final Fantasy villain-level threat. Like, a Dragon Quest final villain-level threat. Relative to normal people who meditate or swing a sword a lot. THAT is how reliably gods die to mortals in this setting.
>>98762355>Relative to normal people who meditate or swing a sword a lot. This is the problem. Not the absolute powerlevel. But that 1) that their capabilities are vague and 2) that it shifts the focus of a jump mostly about Samurai who would job to Spider-Man to one where every other capstone gives you a new way to achieve apotheosis into a casual mountain-buster. It's like if significant portions of the Dishonored jump were about becoming on-par with the Outsider (which likewise was mortal once and mortals fucked over).
>>98762387>1)Their capabilities are vague, but not infinite and far from universally advantageous. Do you consider being able to buy your way into being Ganondorf /and/ own the Triforce of Power to devalue the rest of Hyrule in a Legend of Zelda jump? Do you consider being able to be Dracula to devalue being a Belmont or a village priest in a Castlevania jump? I can't blame your objection. I was initially under the impression that this setting was about Samurai Champloo-level people squabbling. The problem I have is that I read the metaplot and Fu Leng is not ancient history, not barred from interacting with mortals, and a recurring threat until the end of the game's lifespan. For all his power, wisdom and resources, he is canonically unable to conquer the Mortal Realm despite his best efforts over thousands of years.1/2
>>98762327I strongly disagree with you, because then you'd miss the Titanomachy, the Gigantomachy, Typhon, the coup against Zeus, and a lot of other events when being a mortal or demigod gets you smote
>>98762387>2)Okay, again, for emphasis: When I started out making this jump I did NOT think I would be able to justify this far. It is just that. Having read the metaplot. People achieving apotheosis, AND CONTINUING to interact with their living counterparts AND sometimes being defeated by mere mortals OR requiring their help specifically, is a recurring plot point. So is weird anomalies like someone being resurrected as the god-king of the Naga, or Akasha itself being reborn as a human waifu, or fucking Daigotsu the cultivator. If, IF, gods only showed up like Captain Planet to save the day every now and then, I would feel this is going too far yeah. BUT the fact that Togashi lives in secret among humanity AND STILL holds them, not himself or the order of Tengoku, as the key to victory over Fu Leng, and in-universe it is acknowledged humanity's unique divine heritage makes them a fulcrum of change on a metaphysical level, does't devalue the efforts of the samurai used in their plans against Fu Leng. It just means that ordinary humans are unironically not far off from plot device feats; Isawa's Last Wish is an example of world-changing power capable by mortal hands alone.2/3
>>98762387Just for emphasis, I think it's fair to say after many games it's reasonable to be surprised if Ganondorf/Dracula pulls a new trick out of their hat every now and then. That doesn't make them preordained to win over Link/Belmonts, and after having read the metaplot not only do ordinary humans prevail over their final boss gods-they can, in fact, become them. Mortals, and the choices they make, matter even if they lack in overt power. It is the precursor to the SMT/Persona human importance of agency, even if it's more subtle. The alternate timelines are all about this. You talk about every other capstone offering apotheosis like it's an aberration against the setting's natural order.I am telling you that the Path of Man canonises the idea that /yes, literally every mundane effort by humanity in this setting, is by design meant to bring them closer to godhood. And apotheosis is MEANT to be an inherent part of the human condition, in the stting/https://l5r.fandom.com/wiki/Path_of_ManThis setting is like Fallen London. L5R is disguised as a low level samurai setting that just happens to have "element mage" as a common vocation, it may even have started out as such, but by the 4th edition at least it is canon in-universe that it is a spirit cultivation setting in disguise.
It's coming up to bedtime for me. As I said on the bunker, things being what they are I'd rather leave off uploading while the salient points for why I made the jump the way I did stay up for a few more hours before I uphold, in case anyone else objects.
>>98762485>in case anyone else objectsEr, to be clear-I'm not trying to dismiss the other guy outright with no chance for appeal, and I'm open to being convinced if there's salient knowledge about the setting I've somehow overlooked. I'm just trying to say that I genuinely feel I've made the jump to reflect the setting as presented in 4e, especially re: the discourse earlier about how not just the metaplot but the game system is designed to engage with things like the Oni who murdered one of the divine siblings. Basically, the 4e game is as mythological as it is "real samurai hours" by my reading of it.
>>98762415>Do you consider being able to buy your way into being Ganondorf /and/ own the Triforce of Power to devalue the rest of Hyrule in a Legend of Zelda jump? Do you consider being able to be Dracula to devalue being a Belmont or a village priest in a Castlevania jump?Yes. Notably, only a few of our Zelda/Castlevania jumps allow you to become Ganondorf+Triforce or Dracula, respectively. Both are more expensive than a mere 600 CP, and for Dracula in particular it's only the weaker Netflix version or the one that isn't technically Dracula but a reincarnated version (and is also the protagonist). >I can't blame your objection. I was initially under the impression that this setting was about Samurai Champloo-level people squabbling. The problem I have is that I read the metaplot and Fu Len is not ancient history, not barred from interacting with mortals, and a recurring threat until the end of the game's lifespan. For all his power, wisdom and resources, he is canonically unable to conquer the Mortal Realm despite his best efforts over thousands of years.>>98762424>>98762434>the metaplot How relevant is this to the PCs? How many of these things can they realistically achieve? Or is it that since they can conceivably be defeated by virtue of their stats, they are likely to come up in a game? There are a lot of TTRPGs where things that happen in lore are unique events not things intended to be available to even exceptional people. I'm not denying that these things are canon, but does the game actually focus on them to any meaningful degree, or is it largely segregated to the metaplot? Should TES jumps be balanced around Daedric Lords since the HoK defeated Jyggalag that one time? Mages around Exarchs since PCs can theoretically reach that level? Infernals around Yozi or Solars around TUS? I'm not opposed to a lot of these things being offered on principle, but they are so cheap that it takes away from the other elements of the setting. 800+ CP? Thoughts?
>>98762434For this, there are a lot of things like this in many TTRPGs where it's theoretically possible for characters in the setting to achieve things, but impractical for PCs or even powerful NPCs. For example, in Pathfinder there are people who ascended to godhood through the Test of the Starstone, and one guy just through meditating really hard until he reached enlightenment. Realistically, this is just cool trivia and not meant to be something attainable.
>>98762434>>98762551>Realistically, this is just cool trivia and not meant to be something attainable. This part is specifically about apotheosis in Pathfinder. I'm not saying it applies to L5R. I'm just using it as an example.
>>98762538>more expensiveI put it to you that in this setting, godhood is like getting a piece of the Triforce. I don't remember the Triforce being more than 600 CP in every jump. Look at this another way: Zelda is theoretically supposed to be able to do lots of things Link can't, but she can't solve all the problems in the setting, because she's Zelda and he's Link. THAT, in some ways, is what godhood is like. Mortals are meant to do mortal things, gods god things, and when boundaries are trespassed weird things happen.>How relevant is this to the PCs?To the extent PCs are assumed to be capable of, theoretically, murdering the First Oni (a demon who killed one of the Kami siblings in a mutually lethal battle) and Shiba (whose stats I posted earlier in thread), I would say they are as relevant as the lich who guards a dungeon in a generic D&D campaign are to a party of adventurers. The setting, in complete earnestness tries to engage with the idea you might start a campaign at a time when the Kami siblings still walk the earth-and provide guidance on how to stat them.>but does the game actually focus on them to any meaningful degree, or is it largely segregated to the metaplot? There are multiple campaigns built around "mythological" figures, yeah. The most prominent is The Dawn of the Empire, but it comes up in The Hidden Emperor too (you can fight and kill the primordial darkness' avatar with in-game rules)>Thoughts?Hmm. As a concession-what if 1 capstone were to be 600 CP (peak "normal samurai level") and one to be 800 CP ("let's bully the Lying Darkness as it cries about how awful existence is level")? I think I can adjust everything to make that work; it would also assuage my doubts about whether Celestial Bushi should be expanded.
>>98762551>>98762555>exampleUnderstood. I appreciate that cool trivia doesn't necessarily override everything about a setting. When I made the Tales From The Flat Earth for example, what tipped me over to offering Lords of Darkness and Angels for example was that Azhriaz is a PoV character who carries one novel and whose life defines the eras of another, and she fights an angel to a standstill after gaining something like enlightenment. The gods themselves are not on offer because I agree with you there is a point where one should stop.It is not just because I read the cray-cray metaplot, but because I read the actual game mechanics stat things like house-sized monstrosities, legendary kenku (tengu) Sword Saints who statistically can give demigods like Shiba a run for their money in a sword fight, giant tentacle monsters with no upper limit of growth, 60 foot long sea serpents, Nezumi Transcendents (rat people gods. To be clear, these guys are considered gods by the standards of their race. The game explicitly gives them stats with the expectations if PCs need to, they can fight one in-game) and Daigotsu (who is somehow more unfair than the actual statted divine beings). That I strongly feel the game doesn't just pay lip service to abstract valuations of ancestor worship apotheosis the way that, say, Warhammer Fantasy RPGs flirt with the idea with Sigmar's backstory and things like Ulric's Fury. But actually give PCs the tools and justification to, in-game, fight a godlike being and win.
>>98762592>I put it to you that in this setting, godhood is like getting a piece of the Triforce. I don't remember the Triforce being more than 600 CP in every jump.True, but a lot of the Zelda jumps don't even offer it. In of the few that does, Twilight Princess, it's 800 CP with a mandatory drawback. >Look at this another way: Zelda is theoretically supposed to be able to do lots of things Link can't, but she can't solve all the problems in the setting, because she's Zelda and he's Link. THAT, in some ways, is what godhood is like. Combat power isn't everything. There are a lot of settings where street-level unga bungas beat down planet-level reality warpers, e.g. Wuya from Xiaolin Showdown; just because Wuya isn't a planet-buster doesn't mean it should be easy to access her level of power. Similarly with a lot of Soulsborne characters who can pull off cosmic-level shit despite probably not having much more combat power than Spider-Man. >There are multiple campaigns built around "mythological" figures, yeah. The most prominent is The Dawn of the Empire, but it comes up in The Hidden Emperor too (you can fight and kill the primordial darkness' avatar with in-game rules)Fair enough. I have the L5R books, but I haven't read them in awhile. Raising the price for the capstones wouldn't fully assuage my concerns, but it would definitely do a lot to help. Good enough, I suppose.
>>98762646>Raising the price for the capstones wouldn't fully assuage my concerns, but it would definitely do a lot to help. Good enough, I suppose.Fair enough! Pitching the idea over on the bunker too, and so far it's got 3 votes in it's favour. Guess I've got a little more fiddling to do tomorrow.
>>98760740>I do wonder how much this gameplay breaks when you just throw a bunch of commoners with hunting bows at a god.Depends who John Wick is in control. If he is controlling the Kami, he'd say 'Of course you cannot harm a God. He is 5k years old Samurai' and if he was in charge of the peasants he would say something like 'It's impossible to dodge that many arrows. And I researched (translation: badly remember a kurosawa movie) that most Samurai deaths were caused by arrows. Since your Kami is on Earth, they are mortals.'Kinda wish the /L5R/ general was alive. They would have both helped if we poked our heads over there plus been excited for a project involving their games. I can faintly imagine all the memes they would try to cram into this jump doc.
>>98762538Fuck the PCs. Plenty of jumps are for things where you're a teenager getting chased by a monster and you get to be the monster. It's a jump for the setting, during the plot of which multiple gods get killed and replaced. Jumps should not be locked solely to only have content based on playable characters.
>>98762538>How relevant is this to the PCs?A quick search reveals that there is materials allowing players to become Thunderers. The guys destined to always kick Fu Manchu Leng's ass. And I know for a fact it's an idea people toy with in their game groups.
>>98762709Just keep in mind most would say 'Yes' to that not because they want it to be balanced, but because they are like crackheads for bigger jumps/more options.I'm no better.
>>98763180nta but that kind of helps the point that it's unusual. they're >"the greatest heroes of their time">it requires a whole group of them>they "need to be very experienced">it's assumed that most or all of them will die
>>98763268It only happened twice. The first time it was 7 humans vs 1 Kami, 2 survived. I wanna say it was like early on the Empire's Lifespan, before people fully developed all the martial techniques and magic bullshit.Second time 5 survived, but the Kami was basically skinwalking as the Emperor. It can be chalked up to the villain being nerfed for being inside a human and/or because The Empire had many more years to make better Thunderers.
>>98763286Yeah I agree the power level can be a bit scuffed,>>98763144I kind of think focus sometimes help jumps. A jump that can build a thunderer easily, is going to require some awkward twisting to make a more grounded power level.I feel like the resident evil jump is a pretty good example. Basically any jumper that jump it not going to be scared of zombies, lickers or guys with guns. It not really the intended resident evil experience to have bite proof skin and be able to casually solo a licker horde without risk.Like the resident evil power level shown is part of the setting and it deserves a jump for it. But their kind of also needs to be a jump that puts the horror in surivial horror, where a first jumper reaction to a licker horde, is prehaps I should use stealth, or a lot of grenades.>>98762646I feel like soulborne is a terrible example, because physics are so weird. So we have no clue what those cosmic stuff really means.>>98762619I do wonder how well that works in practice. I do notice rpg tend to distort stats a lot.>>98762538I have made the suggestion, and found it quite unpopular, that these kind of things should be split on jumps. We can have a jump for pc level shenagans, and jump for divinity. Through shard anon making the point five rings rpg makes the line murky, which is not quite what. Expected. I expected a big important character stats to be more like, rolls 20 dice for attack, if it takes out character, make additional attack on another foe. It basically the eat 1d6 investigators, but leaving the faint chance a extremely maxed out character can merely nearly die.
>>98762709I am not sure the capstones are what need the price to be raised the most. As a lot of them are or raw power. I am not against it, prehaps putting a rule that only one capstone is discounted. However I think the price of being the stronger races, and at the top of them can be increased. And great potental could have it based power reduced a little. You have to pay extra 100 cp to get it up to full power, and have to spend an extra 100 cp to grab the more straight forward powerful options like diplomancy or combat skills as opposed to painting or fishing.
>>98763180>Fu ManchuYou know in all the time I spent internally mocking Fu Leng for being low key a more comically inept evil overlord than the average saturday morning cartoon villain I never made this connection somehow. Thanks, that gave me a laugh.>>98762938My conclusion after reading psychologically scarring amounts of Daigotsu wank is that John Wick was working with people who were openly mocking his game design philosophy. I am not defending Wick but...there is room in my heart for an ounce of pity about trying to explain to your colleague that gods are supposed to die from arrows while he's jerking off about Sephiroth becoming more powerful than ever before with the power of friendship.>>98763228It is what it is. I suppose doing what we can is better than me waking up one day to realise I've gone full Blackshadow.>>98764636>perhaps putting a rule that only one capstone is discounted.Hmm. I like that solution better than hikes across the broad actually, even if it brings back my nagging anguish over whether Celestial Bushi should also represent Hantei's apparent ability to lend the power of Tengoku to other disciplines for the Owl Clan's writeup. I'll think about race options too, mainly I was worried about overcharging but they are great value bundles.
>>98764740I am glad that one of my suggestion helped.I decided to take a look at cards. It seems to put groups of bunshi as weaker than characters. A lesser Oni strength one, fu lung strength 15, and it seems like a lot of major characters are strength three and five.I will note cards strength tend to be non linear, look at mtg where some random guy is one strength, and eldritch horror are 16 strenght.https://l5r.fandom.com/wiki/Category:CCG_Cards_by_Type

But you're right in that Immortals stuff tends to be badly balanced and formulaic stream of consciousness stuff.>>98765327Can you link me to it? I can't seem to find it in the OP drives.
>>98763286At least one of them (Hida Atarasi) was the son of a Kami. The others were prodigies and heroic mortals to the point where the Kami knelt to them (Isawa, who bound Fu Leng while the others kept him busy). Also, wasn't it only Shosuro who managed to escape? Atarasi technically died and came back as an akutenshi.
>>98769639It is, broadly speaking, the JRPG status effect stand-in so all that stuff is applicable. Plus instant death.>>98769560It's been the reason why I can't post here as regularly for years now, I've tried everything, I've just accepted the CIA thinks my phone company is a compromised geopolitical asset.>>98768355Immortals Handbook just kind of does it's own thing, yapping about the cosmological hurly-burly of beings from planes so outer they make the regular outer planes look like inner planes>>98763286>twiceMirumoto Hitomi 1v1'd Onnotangu by equipping herself with divine artifacts made of his blood and grafting his severed hand onto her stump of a wrist, then conveniently other samurai murdered his avatar which dazed him long enough for her to chop his head off. The God-Beast of Kali-ma was whittled down through attrition by Rokugan's mortal armies. Also, after dying Moto Gaheris fought the Lords of Death and their undead armies to a standstill. He only had 2 guys with him as backup. Man was blowing through Void points like they were breads he'd eaten in his life.>>98770866It's technically outdated, the 1.0 version I've put in both uploads folders is the up to date one since I clarified the 8 companion discount thing>>98770880Yeah, just Shosuro. And the Lying Darknes corrupted her 90% of the way until centuries later, a plot device event involving Bayushi's spirit popping in to say hello and drowning let her and Kachiko escape its grip. Because the Rokugan afterlife (presumably the process of being cleansed by Emma-O, specifically), is apparently some kind of reset for all corruptive forces.
>>98771566>The God-Beast of Kali-maAlso just to be clear, that thing was an actual deity that Kali-ma tortured into an attack animal. Kali-ma herself was defeated in part because Daigotsu's waifu used a blood ritual to siphon her divinity right before Daigotsu came back through THE POWER OF FRIENDSHIP (with Fu Leng, who passed him his divinity when Kali-ma was beating his ass) and ripped out her heart. Previously, someone managed to seal her entirely within a Black Scroll and sunder a portion of her divinity into an oni who apparently wasn't aware she used to be the chunk of a goddess. It was never elaborated on further, but Black Scrolls are a mortal construct.
>A few more borderline examplesAs dragons in the main Rokugan pantheon are Asian-style ones, they are essentially the highest ranking gods under the sun and moon ones. P'an Ku, the Dragon of Madness, was a villain for one of the storylines that some magistrates devised a ritual to force into a physical avatar. While they were unsuccessful at defeating him in combat, the Empress' eldest son was able to chat him into willingly being banished. I bring this up because everyone involved was relatively a scrublord compared to elite Phoenix shugenja or Dragon monks. Magistrates alone were able to stop an asian dragon doing what it wanted. There are guys called Oracles who are the human champions/avatars of their respective elements' dragon; think of them as effectively demigods spec'd purely into magic. They can do things like conjure towers of pure flame that stretch into the sky. Sometimes they get Tainted, and have to be put down. This has been consistently doable by sufficiently determined samurai-shugenja groups (sometimes with armies to catch their attention), and in one case a Nezumi Nameseeker. The Lying Darkness by and large would not count because Hitomi used her moon goddess powers to swipe left on its agency in existence. HOWEVER, prior to that it attempted to infect a pregnant woman and her baby. The entirely mortal husband was able to save his baby by naming her (like, normally naming her; again, humans are vestiges of the divine) and while it taunted him with its seeming invincibility the samurai just went "No, I've got the power of love" and cut his wife's possessed husk down anyway. Even when it tried to corrupt him, his sheer fucking will just made him a Nameless One instead of another appendage of the Lying Darkness.
>>98771677I vaguely remember some gaijin saying "...and in this land, they raise slayers of gods" about Rokugan.I enjoy the high powered setting, ngl, but sometimes it feels like the xuanhuan/xianxia version of Chinese mythology compared to the HK action movie/wuxia power level some of the previous editions cover.
>>98771566I was referring to the charm strange element, as opposed to strange elements as a whole. Which jrp traitor description made sound like a insane aphrodisiac and additive drug when it normally treated as mind control or a subtle influence in dnd or final fantasy. Just a temporary make someone nicer to me effect.I am surpised you reduced the cost of great potential. I saw that as the more straight forwardly strong perk. But I guess it depends on what use it for. Being a mythical fisher or painter, is cool and will give you a niche. Mythical swordsmanship or diplomancy is world changing.Question is their a non capstone perk I am missing that would prevent me from being lynched for using a strange magic?
>>98771750Yeah, that's a thing. And yeah, that was the writers themselves acknowledging how cray-cray things got after a while. I started making L5R honestly thinking it would be relatively small scale, but the longer the storyline went on the more the xianxia stuff creeped in. It's like the opposite of those settings where the magic goes away over time, if anything the magic IS BROUGHT TO FRUITION by the deeds of the demigods to result in a net profit of divine miracles after a medium turn dearth of them.>>98771804Oh right, yeah I don't see why you can't dilute it to charm person somebody in lower doses.>great potentialI was talked round to it by the observation that this is a highly competitive Asian-style society, where all the potential in the world will just make your colleagues and parents and divinely appointed supervisor yell at you to train harder NOW NOW NOW so you're on par with the other guy who is already an iaijutsu prodigy.>lynchedSacrosanct. The word of the Emperor does a lot of heavy lifting in this setting, it was for example-used to successfully integrate the Unicorn into the empire. Even if the Unicorn still keep the specifics of meishodo on the down-low, their shugenja can practice it openly without being accused of heresy for not interacting with spirits at all and just saying funny words to make elements do things.
Finally got round to watching the new Gears of War game. It's a lot better than I expected, actually, even if the gameplay isn't exactly revolutionary. I've learned to have zero expectations for the revival of franchises that old, but someone put in work to make the Locusts and Lambent horrifying. And I didn't hate any of the ooh-rah bodybuilder jarheads. It lacks the COLE TRAIN gung ho spirit of the earliest games, but tries to elaborate on the storytelling in other areas, and I can respect that. It's almost like a Resident Evil game in mood, but like if you started out with the heavy calibre guns from the start, and without a hammy villain since this is way before the Locust Queen reveals herself. There's just nothing much to talk about from a Jumpchain perspective though. It's a prequel. The Locust are a solved problem; the Swarm are technically a new evolution of them.
>>98772244I do kind of like that. Magic goes away seems depressing, magic is better than ever seems fun.I kind of figure jumper would have the freedom to avoid it. They can totally just because a legendary recluse or something.Through it sounds like a wonderful missed drawback. Asian tiger mom Kami, where you have a powerful patron, possibly divine that asks possibly a little too much from you. Nothing you theoretically cannot do. But very much you only cut the boulder in a single slash, if you were less lazy you can cut the tree behind the boulder in the same slash. It would be great for jumper growth.Sacrosect seems kind of overpowered for what I intended and price point. In a social cut throat setting like the five rings being beyond critism is insane. And it costs 100 cp. it might be worth taking a drawback to fit that, even one of your drawbacks. actually on that note, I was a bit presently surprised. It once of my favorite drawback sections you made. All the 200 cp drawbacks feel fun and fair. I like that some of them are overcomable. Meaning they can provide great plot hooks. Jumper could quest to curse his bad health, resolve things with his blackmailer, and improve his name to overcome his ronin status.300 cp seem good too. Some of them are brutal enough that I am not sure if it worth it, but they are not unthinkable so, and can make a good story
>>98772244Granted the lower price drawbacks, I wish I commented more on earlier, because they seem to be much more raw deal. All the 50 cp drawbacks seems like a big enough deal to be 100 cp, (granted maybe I am failing to factor in how good a deal some of the perks are) And some of the 100 cp. I guess yoga curse free cp to a sociopath, but I think even DDanon might regret taking that when it done. Betraying your love kind of feels more like a 600 cp you take. Through one can put the clause that you forgot you take the drawback in it. It would fit and make it less awkward but somehow more brutal. Through maybe it more horrible to know it coming and know their nothing you can do about it.Black sheep and secret love are fine. I would not mind them being 200 cp, but I guess that really depends on jumper powerlevel. Secret lover really makes for some fun story bits.Wraith of the elements honestly kind of feels like a free drawback.I do love at your description of kitsuki method. Two heavens sounds like a awesome perkI am a little confused on how wind never stops works. It says it let me ride a horse through a bunch of armored men, but description seems to suggest it does so by sacrificing speed fo defense. Does that mean my horse is riding very slowly through a group of armored men.I wonder if I can summon orochi on land. And I wonder how good they be in modern day combat. You have shown your research.
>>98772292>Asian tiger mom KamiThe Kami siblings are all incredibly supportive but hands-off towards humanity. They'll give you the tools to succeed and harshly correct you if, say, you're compromised by a militantly atheist conspiracy that isn't even philosophically incorrect but has such a myopic view of the setting it's mission statement is ultimately an excuse to be the shadow money wizard yakuza and ACHIEVING THEIR GOAL causes the faction to fucking implode once they're forced to face the reality of that. Honestly some of the best divine patrons I've seen in fiction at large. If I'd written a drawback like that the patron would definitely be mortal or diabolical. Matsu was a lot harsher towards humanity than Akodo himself ever was.>SacrosanctYeah, it's a bit awkward but the thing about Sacrosanct is that it's utterly dependent on the social order y'know? It's only as good as the security of the Imperial throne/social order, it's not like certain 600 CP social perks out there where you can shoot a man in daylight and it doesn't matter who's in charge. Several L5R campaigns and moments in history highlight that when respect for the throne erodes, factions like the Otomo and the Crane are suddenly a lot less important than they are. You're also left up a creek without a paddle if the emperor/president/chieftain ever decides he doesn't like you. Sacrosanct is immense privilege, but L5R acknowledges privilege is just another social contract.>200/300 CP drawbacksGood to hear! I like the "questing drawback" approach myself, I don't want to hand points out for free but I do think the imagination game benefits from having a goal instead of just "a monkey is on your back 24/7 and it's constantly screaming at you, there is nothing you can do about this" unless the absurdity is the point.
>>98772319>raw dealYeah I kinda factored in both perks and how people in L5R have historically dealt with stuff like that >Betraying your loveIt's basically something almost every Scorpion and most politically minded Rokugani learn to live with, one way or another>Wind never stopsIt means the spiritual pressure of your bond with your horse and the heavenly principles of Bushido can be condensed for greater defence. I am serious>orochi on landThey're significantly slower than in water, but they can go on land yeah.
>>98772332Sacrosanct might be better worded as something like borrowing the Empra's Status (I haven't read the Chain yet; that's just what it feels like to me). Alternately if it draws on Jump-chan's transdivine authority to work anywhere, then it would be worth the 600CP
>>98772332Nice to have a setting where the divine good guys are actually good. Most fiction seems to have to give them feet of clay. Or get with a standard Heaven is evil. That explaination does make sacrosanct make more sense. How does it work in future jump? I kind of thing it could have been made into a three hundred cp perk. With maybe another 200 cp perk that more narrow and just covers strange powers/magic/appearance/foreignness.While on the idea of perk balance tweaks. I kind of think great potential could require 100 cp for less niche skills. Through it is a fun perk, I am wondering what the heck you can do if you grab engineering I agree with you the screaming monkey drawback suck. They also tend to give cp on can you hypothetically survive this, and not based on will your time in jump be a nonsensical mess of misery. I get why they might be afraid of high power jumpers cheesing them, but the high power jumper likey did not need the perks that much anyway.
>>98772347How historically have they dealt with it. Because I am looking at the social honor setting and thinking, being a den of vice is kind of suicidal, for an early jumper. It also a mindwhammy, and I am a bit touchy about anything that alters my jumper personality.I am not seeing how it totally normal for politcal minded Rokegen and scorpions to betray their love. I mean I figure it would happen sometimes. But betraying everything they hold dear and than killing them seems extreme? Like this seems like the kind of tragic event that is 600 cp. like if it was 200 cp, and you merely risked this happening, but could find a third option, or choose to make another major sacrifice, it would make more sense. How much does using wind never stops to increase defense slow me down in exchange for defense. And how does it work when boosting speed?Oh yeah that is cool, turning into a giant snake might never work. But summoning them works.Time to look at the companion section more when I should be sleeping. Thanks for the awesome jump.
>>98772987Checked the wiki, not the greatest source. And it has to say this on the yoga curse“Examples of this were the following: accidentally destroying a cherished family heirloom, stumbling over a phrase in a loved one's funeral ceremony, injuring a sibling during training, etc.”Which sounds awkward but so much less bad than drawback description.
>>98772998Than again that when the curse triggers young. When it triggers old. Junzo was the worst case scenario.
>Aha is a playable waifu nowpainpain and suffering
>>98772406Nah it's Emps privilege, it is literally just the Emperor declaring you passed his vibe check. The reason why it's rated so low is because it is social clout and nothing else. While it's hard to SOCIALLY disagree with you, mechanically people with high honor can talk over you, and there is a simple solution: Pay an assassin or summon a demon to gank you outside the entire system of social convention>>98772987>historicallyBy either shutting up and putting their career ahead of their love life, or taking a huge risk.>seems extreme? No, it's very normal, it's practically expected.>How muchDeliberately vague, it's wuxia physics for horses.>how does it workHorse ki>>98774776>he just found outHeh.I think they already revealed she's not ALL of Aha or something, though. See, Asat apparently found Aha's head inside the Voracity's stomach. There has just been no clarification on whether the Voracity beat Aha and is just taking its sweet time digesting him, or if Aha beat the Voracity and is currently gestating into a new Path. Asat doesn't know what to make of Aha, so it's not even clear if Aha split off a part of himself or is the Aha successor like the Trailblazer is the Akivili successor
>>98772319>I guess yoga curse free cp to a sociopath, but I think even DDanon might regret taking that when it done.>Yogo Curse (+ 100 CP): A bitter curse has been laid upon you, fating you to betray the one you love the most>You can of course evade this curse by simply choosing not to love anyone... which is its own curse.Man delights not me; no, nor Woman neither.I wouldn't take it because I only take Body Mod drawbacks, and only for my first Jump. I previously didn't do that, but before even then I min-maxed everything to shit. That's why I stopped taking drawbacks, because I was paperclip-maximizing. The drawback would not affect me. I am just lust without passion. It's the same reason I don't do companion Chains, I must create a companion, jerk off, and then maximize my personal power again.
>>98774776Also! Did you see the part where Aha confirmed that the Simulated Universe's version of Aha is actually just the real Aha doing a funny?
>>98776001>spoilerI mean, there was the weird bit where whoever won the Phantasmoon Games would get Aha's authority permanently, so obviously there's weird shit going on.>>98776545Nope, I'm actually mostly focusing on catching up with Genshin atm, so this whole Nihilux business came out of nowhere for me.
>>98776576Understandable. I'm just happy that not only is my Simulated Universe strat in the jump vindicated, but everyone who ever argued with me about Aeons being entirely mindless and unreasoning p-zombies has been utterly disproven between this and the Trailblazer being confirmed Akivili's successor. If they make the gacha MC a p-zombie, I'll eat my hat.

>>98776715So, allow me to clarify: I expected EVERY playable character to be a racially diverse paraglegic transsexual, and for the Locust to be treated like a sympathetic immigrant metaphor instead of the irrecoverable monstrosities they are. My expectations were set so low that this shit doesn't even register even though yes, THEIR fingerprints are all over the game, like literally every AAA western franchise.
It's come to my attention Legend of the Five Rings' word doc deleted the perk Elemental Purity for some reason. That has been rectified with the latest upload.
I haven't been able to access the bunker all day. Whether se, cc, or moe. Is it just me?
>>98779556moe is down, try st - it's the replacement for se.
>>98779559That works, thanks.
Is the bunker down for everyone or just me?
>>98779590See >>98779559.
>>98779590just you, it works fine for me and I am seing post as new as a minute ago.
>>98776001I guess it just breaking my suspension of disbelief, it being this bad is this normal. When do you ever see jumpers taking this? It just seems insanely harsh for the price point. I mean if was you will clash with a loved one or betray them in some way it be okay. The part where you betray everything they love and than you kill them is the part over the top for me.But I am just fixating on a drawback that does not matter all the much. No one going to take it, but the jump works fine without the badly designed drawbacks. So why am I complaining.
>>98778574What do you think about adding to a perk that just preventing others from freaking out over how strange you are. It does not mean they like you any more or protect you from being dishonored. It just not going to be because your a three eye four arm mutant who uses strange magic. Compared to sanctify, this is going to be more narrow in focused. Also what do you think of toning down the curse of yoga drawback to the point it not worse than canon curse of yoga?In your reading, what the most impressive feat of strength you seen a crab preform. Someone on reddit seems to think a crab clan member could possibly throw a boulderI kind of want to take ronin drawback and than take on a 20 goblin winter.
>>98779875>When do you ever see jumpers taking this? When they're cunts.>>98780040>perk that just preventNo. Xenophobia defines this setting.>toning downNo. Suffering is canon.>impressive feat of strengthI view the Crab's continuous manning of the wall and the fact that they fight 30 foot tall demons with big-ass metal clubs while in full armor as one great, ongoing feat of strength. Outside of the next great crisis, Rokugan mostly deals with spirits and other human-scale combatants, most of which do not have full anime physics. The Crab have to wage a Soulsborne campaign perpetually.
>>98779875>When do you ever see jumpers taking this? When they're especially fowl. It's basically free points. He'd be a fool to increase the CP gain for it.
>>98780511I feel like most jumpers are not psychopaths. It like saying a drawback is a good deal because some people like cbt. >>98780437I guess that explains it. Through I think a toned down version would be fun drama for a jumper less evil. Where they think they can mitagate the damage, and maybe they are right, maybe they are not. Where they have to deal with the consequences of either what they sacrificed for the one they love, repairing the relationship with those they love. The love being dead is worse case scenario, possible but only due to jumper mistake.
>>98780545>most jumpers are not psychopathsIrrelevant. Drawbacks are, in fact, supposed to hurt. As I said, this is something people in L5R constantly do. It's based on Asian myth, stabbing your lover brutally as she curses you from beyond the grave is the cost of doing business sometimes.
>>98780040>>98780545Get it through your thick fucking skull that we are Chads. We are simply built different than SBitches. Your faggotry has no place here. Accept this and learn or ways, or leave.
>>98780545One of my 100CP drawbacks is getting spontaneously and erroneously groped. I would be more inclined to take Shard's 100CP drawback than my The Slapper drawback from Edge of the Sky. Different folks, different strokes. Some people are assholes
>>98780577I mean, I am pretty sure the merely as bad as canon curse of yoga version still hurts. Their just room to hope the hurt is less.>>98780577I half expect to see TG, one day do 50 cp drawback. Your are castrated by cheese grater each day. Your groin magically heals each time. No method of reducing pain works.
>>98780593I do like the concept of the slapped drawback. People mindset will completely alter how awful it feels. In theory a person might be able to get used to it. But on the other end, a person might going in thinking it no big deal, and get sucker punched how violating it feels to happen every day.I like it as a 100 cp drawback. It something that bad but will not really dominate your jump.

But yeah, it would be more accurate to say the Crab life is like if Nightreign was an RTS: Melee, archery, siegecraft and limited magical support against a never-ending horde of monstrosities. Part of the problem is there's so much weird shit that on any given day you don't know if you're going to fight 20 gobbos, a cadre of justifiably arrogant ogre warriors or The Maw 2.0
>>98786544Fair enough. I’m just always leery of crab wank. Crab players are either the best or the worst at the table. No inbetween. There's two Fable Jumps, right? TLC and Manyfist's series Jump? I'm not missing a third?
>>98787216Correct. Though I remember on the bunker you saying that Manyfist's was fine the last time someone brought it up.
>>98787427I was actually thinking of that conversation myself before I made that post asking just now. Manyfist's Jump is fine for a boilerplate Jump, so to speak, but I have argued for settings getting individual Jumps based on their in-world time passing before. It was me who pointed out originally that Dragon Age: Inquisition and Origin's timeline were separated by more than 10 years, and it's partially why I made my Dragon Age: Origins & Dragon Age II Jump.Anyhow, I can't exactly have a conversation about it when I'm spam-posting replies before getting banned. I just had a brain-blast moment while stewing in my melancholy a few hours ago, is all. Brain's going miles a minute thinking about things. Some options are self-evident, and part of that is a problem because of the recurring archetypes but not wanting to have basically three of the same Jumps.I promise nothing. I am working on nothing. TLC is basically fine. I'm just thinking.https://youtu.be/Kl-l9hFLyME4Q3T1uOs7hvGx9XC
>>98787680Hey DD, I have a few questions about your jump of 3.5.Why did you forbid worshipping a concept or taking prestige classes outside of those 4-5? They're both normal things in D&D, unlike how you handled it by letting us get prestige classes at level 2 completely ignoring requirements.Same thing about capping the level at 30/bought level+10, which only pushes even more on focusing just on levels, something already vastly favored by the jump. Finally why prestige classes advance half of a gestalt, when it makes no sense on how gestalt classes work (they're a singular class based on two previous classes, advancing half of it makes no sense) and logically they should advance separately.
>>98786642Okay so, here's the thing.I am aware that it is the Crab Clan's opinion that nobody else in Rokugan fights real wars, especially the Lion. I am aware of the time that the Great Bear allowed with the fucking Shadowlands to invade Rokugan because he somehow thought this was a ruthless but necessary step to enforcing institutional stability at any cost, AND YET wasn't tortured to death let alone executed when he came to regret it; I am aware people generally do not become Fortune /before/ the Emperor declares them as such. I am aware that Hida Yakamo succeeded Amaterasu as the Rokugan sun deity after perpetuating a number of atrocities including but not limited to enraging Hitomi, itself a calamity in its own right. I am aware that the Hiruma lands were reclaimed more or less through sheer stubbornness, that the Yasuki were able to tell the Crane to fuck off and get away with it, and that somehow the Kaiu Wall didn't fall during the Destroyer War.It does not even register. Do you know why?/BECAUSE DAIGOTSU SUCCEEDED IN MAKING THE SPIDER A GREAT CLAN/Daigotsu is such a one-man shitpost that FUNDAMENTALLY refuses to make sense in the context of the setting that my sheer frustration with having to acknowledge he is a canon character who became successful by ignoring every single common sense assumption about dealing with Taint drowns out everything else. Everything. Else....also the current version is now 1.15, more typos were eliminated
>>98786642Also np but and I cannot stress this enough, at least 60% of the process of making the entire jump felt like continuously malding at Daigotsu showing up everywhere in the latter day lore with his evil shounen power of friendship BULLSHITI have finished reading all The Immortals Handbook, and I can definitely say it will be a LESS STRESSFUL jump to make purely because there is no Daigotsu figure in it, there is no character who fundamentally breaks basic conceits of the setting just because someone IRL won bigly and the writers had no other outlet for their Sephiroth fanboyism.
>>98789250>>98789239Yeah absolutely everything related to the spider is bullshit. Bur the thing is I have never run into anyone IRL ho doesn’t know the spider is bullshit. I have never personally met an unironic spider fanboy. But I have met a lot of mouthbreathing retards who refuse to engage with the setting that love crab. Sidenote, less frustrating than spider or crab, but fuck mantis. Mantis was such forced bullshit.
>>98789722>I have never personally met an unironic spider fanboyI am given to understand the main reason the Spider got so far in the first place was that certain powergamers were pushing them into a victory so all-encompassing and absolute, that it resulted in Asian Lucifer and the Asian Antichrist undergoing a goddamn shounen power of friendship character arc that makes NO SENSE with their established philosophies and outlooks on life. And that 4e later tried to run damage control by claiming the Spider were merely considered a Great Clan in name only, much like 4e tried to retcon Naseru finding a reality-shaping crystal as merely apocryphal, and tried to assert the Spider were WEAKENED in-universe. Because that was both the only way the writers could rationalise Total Spider Victory, and because letting Daigotsu ascend above the gods themselves (Fu Leng was merely the Champion of Jigoku, not its MASTER) simultaneously let them pay a concession to the other clans being USELESS during that event, while also sending off their poochie with one great big hurrah as they kicked him upstairs.I am led to assume, with some horror, /there were Spider fanboys at some point in history and they were VERY dedicated/>fuck mantisOh yeah, Mantis did the "minor clan powergames their way into Major Clan status" thing first. It is a testament to how stupid Daigotsu's existence is that not even blackmailing the Emperor really registers. Mainly because Daigotsu's "concessions" to Iweko were somehow even stupidly one-sided>You want to run a Great Clan? You should kill yourself, Daigotsu!>Really? That's it? Bitch, I'm a Dark Lord. We come back from the dead whenever it's narratively convenient. I actually brought my wakizashi just in case the occasion came up, give me a moment to let my god know I'll be staying over in Hell and I'm on it>Wait what->Also fuck the three cuts, you don't deserve my agony, HEART STAB OR BUSTHe died like he lived: Making no sense whatsoever.
>>98789722Also is it just me or do Crane and Scorpion get bodied A LOT between eras? 4e feels like it's doing a lot of work to cover up the fact that the clan that prides itself on social maneuvers gets bullied really hard whenever war breaks out on a scale they can't negotiate out of, and that the clan that is theoretically the feudal japanese glowies is REALLY BAD about producing unhinged members who end up making the whole clan more of a net detriment overall. It is just...really hard not to notice they keep recovering due to offscreen prosperity, compared to the glorious success of the Mantis/Spider, Lion/Unicorn actually getting battlefield wins, and Dragon banding together to somehow salvage Hitomi as anything other than a murderhobo so psychotically dedicated to revenge she could be a Kurosawa protagonist.
>>98789795Spider fan boys existed yes. They just never showed up at my table. I played 4e after all the card game shit had gone down and the community in my area seemed happy to just play earlier eras before their existance or retcon spider out of existence in local head canon. I was quite blessed. But yes, at one point many faggots gargled daigotsus chode. It makes sense to me that toxic tryhards would latch on to Spider back then. I hate it, but it makes sense. The thing I hate most about mantis isn’t even that they grasped for great clan status( though I do think it was bullshit how it went down) its how it proceeded to absorb and then ruin all the most interesting minor clans. So much of those clans flavor got sanded off to make them mantis families. Absolute travesty. >>98789831Crane and Scorpion both suffer a lot yeah. I couldn't tell you exactly why it was that way from a meta perspective. I have my suspicions, but I don’t know. In universe it’s quite simple though. Scorpion gets fucked because it turns out that doing shady shit and disregarding most of bushido has consequences (unless you are a writers pet), and crane get fucked because the Crane strategy only works when the Emperor is strong and unthreatened and the game is mostly about periods when the Emperor is weak or threatened or both because that’s when interesting shit happens. And Crane do not deal with that well because their primary survival strategy is to run crying to the Emperor.
>>98789161>Why did you forbid worshipping a concept>They're both normal things in D&D,Not in 3.5 Forgotten Realms. Io changed it during the Time of Troubles. Not every D&D setting is the same. Just like people confuse the Great Wheel Cosmology (which I prefer) for being canon in 3.5, but it's actually the World Tree Cosmology that's canon. Functionally, outside of some portals and literally being able to climb the Tree, IIRC, they are almost exactly the same in how they work.>Why did you forbid taking prestigeBecause no 3.5 Jump addresses this because there's hundreds of them. I can't balance that. It's different with Variants because none of them outside of Convert Spell-to-Power Erudite are even really good. I also just don't want people only taking classes. I balanced the whole Jump around trying to get people to not willingly stack classes, and by the diversity and volume of builds I have received, I have succeeded.>unlike how you handled it by letting us get prestige classes at level 2 completely ignoring requirements.A Jump is not a pure representation of a setting, it is a Jump. We are allowed a certain level of discretion to make the Jumps engage-able with options that aren't strictly canon (within reason), or otherwise having things like items and perks available that are dupes or less restricted. In this case, particularly Master of Nine, Chameleon, and Dweomerkeeper all have steep requirements to enter them, and by sidestepping those requirements I otherwise incline people towards taking a specific Origin. Continue next post...
>>98790258Three times I have been praised for allowing those options like that. Every Prestige perk grants their first 5 levels to prevent making people feel the need to further stack class levels because with their first Class Level being free, they start at Class Level 6. So, buying 4 purchases of Class Level is the same as buying the Prestige for your Origin (200CP / 200CP), and once you get to Class Level 10 buying 4 purchases of class level is more expensive than buying your or any Prestige (200CP [Origin Prestige] / 400CP [Non-Origin Prestige], but still cheaper because it grants 5 Class Levels).>Same thing about capping the level at 30/bought level+10, which only pushes even more on focusing just on levels,It's not a hardcap or softcap, it's just the limit without outside perks. It is the potential you are given for arriving. Nobody has made a build just stacking Class Level. Most people see Race is 50CP to start and think "What can I do with this".>Finally why prestige classes advance half of a gestaltBecause that's how it works. You add the Prestige to a Gestalt on one side, but both go up. You can't have two Prestiges "active" at the same time 1-to-1.Archivist 1 // Bard 1Archivist 1 / Fatespinner 5 // Bard 6Archivist 6 / Fatespinner 5 // Bard 6 / Dweomerkeeper 5>Or;Archivist 1 // Bard 1Archivist 1 / Fatespinner 5 // Bard 6Archivist 1 / Fatespinner 5 / Dweomerkeeper 5 // Bard 11>Would be how it works, not:Archivist 1 // Bard 1Archivist 6 / Fatespinner 5 // Bard 6 / Dweomerkeeper 5>Or put a different way:Archivist 1 / Bard 1Archivist 1 / Fatespinner 1 // Bard 1 / Dweomerkeeper 1
>>98790266I literally gave an example of how it works in the Jump. >For example, a Gestalt who is Class Level 1 (Cleric 1 // Wizard 1) and takes Dweomerkeeper would most likely choose to be built as Class Level 6 (Cleric 6 // Wizard 1 / Dweomerkeeper 5).You can't take two prestige classes when you raise your Class Level by one. You have to stack a different prestige on the other side or continue to level up the other prestige on the side. Just oft the sake of demonstration. Prestige in my Jump grants their first 5 levels upon purchase. You're also not supposed to use Prestige classes like Arcane Hierophant on a Gestalt because it would unduly increase your Caster Level despite being under-leveled because both sides already rise with a Gestalt.

>>98789831I wonder how legend of five rings would react to magical girl jumper. Who hit tome of raidence, princess the hopeful, and a generic magical girl jump. She attacks with rainbow colored magic blasts, force fields and light magic mainly.I guess a lot of people try to kill her, but as a magical girl that easier said than done.
>>98790875Depends, is she a gaijin or a jap? If she’s a jap they probably rationalize her as some sort of Kami or Fortune after she glasses an army or two and the shugenja or Emperor will come out to try and talk terms and blend her into the syncretic worship system of the Empire. If she’s gaijin then they’ll kill her at all costs. Prepare thine anus for ALL the ninjas, Clan Champions with magic gear, shit if she’s fucking things up enough maybe a Kami or two will show up and try to smack her down. It probably wouldn’t work but they’d die trying.
>>98790258>Not in 3.5 Forgotten Realms. Io changed it during the Time of TroublesOk, then I misremembered that.>Because no 3.5 Jump addresses this because there's hundreds of them. I can't balance thatJust tell to stick to reasonable stuff and that if no one used a planar bubble for quel dolar there is a reason, D&D isn't balanced even removing prestige, being druid 20 is better than most options you removed, and you yourself aknowledge the overwhelming power of certain classes, and variants you allowed (not to speak of encouraging to DMM persistent spell and cheater of mystra, one of the most op builds around).>Nobody has made a build just stacking Class Level. >I also just don't want people only taking classes. I balanced the whole Jump around trying to get people to not willingly stack classesI mean, I think it's a pretty boring build, but that's exactly how mine was ending up, it's both stronger in the short term and gives me better potential in the longer term.>A Jump is not a pure representation of a setting, it is a Jump. We are allowed a certain level of discretion to make the Jumps engage-able with options that aren't strictly canon (within reason), or otherwise having things like items and perks available that are dupes or less restrictedYeah, but you forbid more reasonable things, while leaving this, which can bring to nonsensical builds (and it's immensely cheesy for dweomerkeeper, as it removes the pretty complex requirement for one of the best PrC).>Because that's how it worksSounds absurd to me, but ok, will do my best to exploit it.>Ao*I was perplexed by what the dragon creator god was doing there
>>98790266>it's just the limit without outside perks. It is the potential you are given for arriving.Forgot to mention but there isn't a real reason you just stop being able to learn things after a certain level, supposing you have unlimited time.
>>98790975Prehaps you just reach diminishing returns. Where you’re simply not smart, talented.stronf enough soul to make effective use of the stuff. Maybe you learn intellectually how to cast a level 30 spell. But you lack the control, power, understanding on how to adapt the spell. You would need a no skill decay/ perfect memory over time to prevent forgetting magic knowledge.Your just one of those trillion year old immortals that get knocked out by the plucky protagonist who has one month of training.
>>98790934>Just tell to stick to reasonable stuffExploits are banned, but not everything which is broken is an exploit. No, I'm not spending more time looking into prestige classes.>think it's a pretty boring buildThen use one of the other two Jumps. All of use did different things.>but you forbid more reasonable things,I made allowances with five Prestige classes to avoid people just using class levels, and it worked.>and it's immensely cheesy for dweomerkeeperChosen of Magic / Chosen of Mystra gives you functionally everything Dweomerkeeper does and more, and immediately gives you things like Limited Wish and Wish as a Spell-like abilities once per day. I have to balance every origin for what it is. Dweomerkeeper Prestige and Chosen of Magic are both very good, but No Games, Drizzt J'Umper, and Quasi-Demi (depending on who you pick) I would argue are more powerful. Passing Notes can be extremely busted depending on what you ask. Dweomerkeeper Prestige is only broken relative to the Prestige classes available, but doing something like having Fatespinner Prestige and having companions that have it I would argue is even more broken.>Sounds absurd to meI wasn't originally going to offer Dweomerkeeper. Archmage was my first choice, but it only increases Arcane classes. I settled on Mystic Theurge because it can do Divine as well, but then there's the contradiction with the Gestalt rules. Classes that add +1 to two caster classes is disallowed by the default Gestalt rules.>>98790975>there isn't a real reason you just stopYeah, there is. This is something I'd argue against even to Ed's face. Elminster's whole thing is that Mystra saw his magic potential and trained him not to hate magic so he would become what he has. Your average peasant does not have the potential to become Elminster. Karsus was the (second) greatest spellcaster during his time, and was casting levels of spells that took decades to learn before he was even an adult. I am rule 0'ing.
>>98791049No, shut the fuck up. I'm 10-to-1 you being that fucking retarded SpaceBattlefaggot again. I have already given more than what I originally wanted to for the sake of what can reasonably exist. I have already spent like an hour and a half replying to your retard-ass today. Make a worthwhile suggestion or shut the fuck up. Use a different Jump if you don't like it mine.
>>98791054>>98791079Not the second poster, but you seem really too incensed about it, if it angers you I will just stop talking to you, have fun.
>>98791142I am sick to fucking death about what Jumpchain has become. It is insane the levels of power that Jumps just throw around these days. You can become a Class Level 12 or 13 Wizard and have access to 9th level spells for 850CP or 950CP depending on if you take Fatespinner Prestige or Dweomerkeeper Prestige, respectively. That's already more than what every other 3.5 FR Jump allows, and then I raised the fucking Class Level cap by 10 because of the Incessant bitching of powergaming dipshits, but now I have you saying to uncap further. You're damn right I'm mad. There is no reason to believe, at all, if you take one of the other 3.5 FR Jumps and get a class level that you can improve endlessly, but that's just become the default thinking it seems in Jumpchain. I understand that some things might be confusing between what is actually a rule for 3.5 FR or a ruling I made for the Jump, and is why I answered the questions, but nothing I did was for a reason I can't cite. When it comes down to Jumpchain balancing arguments like this, it's completely counterproductive and a waste of my time because in 99% of times I am just unambiguously correct. I didn't balance the Jump for 30 being the ceiling, and I can argue fully that I fucked up the Jump by raising the cap. I don't give a shit if stronger than CR or class level 30 characters exist, that is never how Jumps should be made. It's the 'Mass Effect has Reapers, let me be a Reaper' argument again but over a decade later.
>>98791222DDAnon, you have issues and are fighting strawmen.Anyway will just decide how things will work for my chain, thank you for your time, and sad you're too tired to speak like a sane person.
>>98791263I'm not a sane person, and I'm very well-rested. The first thing I did when I woke up was to reply to your post. So when I'm shortly thereafter hit with shit like.>Just tell (people) to stick to reasonable stuffAre you fucking retarded? >D&D isn't balanced even removing prestige, I cannot balance against things I do not know. The whole fucking point is to put together an internally balanced document the best that I can.>being druid 20 is better than most options you removedI KNOW WHAT A DRUID IS, and I'm not going to disallow something so prominent and not exploitive.>encouraging to DMM persistent spell and cheater of mystra, one of the most op builds around).Which you could fucking take anyways. It's not an exploit, and I'm aware of it. I'd rather address it.>forbid more reasonable thingsI fucking forbid what I do not know and thus can't balance against. I'm sorry that in all the years I learned D&D 3.5 it didn't include all the prestige classes, but I don't like you people enough to sit down and learn them all. By doing what I already have, I've done more than all the other 3.5 Jumps. But then you say shit like.>I mean, I think it's a pretty boring build, >Sounds absurd to me, but ok, will do my best to exploit it.You want me to thank you? For insulting me? I tried to be nice, and I'm not nice. Then you said that pissing me off.You have not thought about all of these options and their internal balance more than I have. Again, I know that not every choice is clear, and is why I answered the questions. I'm not saying trust the process, but wholly fucking shit.
>>98791361Sorry you took it as an insult to you, it was to my own build, that it is boring.I disagree with many of your choices, but exactly as you're the jumpmaker and aren't at my service I offered to end the discussion when you were altered. Also beside everything else while yes, there are differently talented people I doubt someone who managed to become imnortal would reach a point where he just can't learn more, which still doesn't imply random commoners are Elminster.
>>98791436>it was to my own build, that it is boring. Then to that point I apologize, and I failed in part to better balance literally everything else against it. Just understand that literally every other build I have received has not been that. The 29 other levels from 1 will still be there if you don't increase Class Level, and so you can always invest in racial power that doesn't otherwise improve, or perks and items.> I doubt someone who managed to become imnortal would reach a point where he just can't learn more, which still doesn't imply random commoners are Elminster. It's just the limit without outside perks. I don't like the assumption of being able to do more than what is listed. Assuming a few levels more than you bought is fine, but not uncapped. That's why I originally capped it at 20, but after thinking about it for awhile I decided 30 was fine because you're not going to be adventuring all the time.I am trying to get people to engage the thing. Spend hours searching through the web, looking at supplements, reading the material. The whole fucking Jump is just an excuse to get people to do that. I want people to do what I did when the original 3.5 Jump was made. I don't even dislike that one, but I thought I could do better and so I tried. I am not trying to limit things. Balance doesn't just mean how much power you get, it's absolutely everything else in the Jump against itself. How much people might want something, how clever you can be with something, if you can bet something in a different Jump, the short-term and long-term utility, and yes, to a point, the level power.I am angry because I care. Have fun with whichever Jump you use.
