For MESBG I like black base rims. For Fantasy I prefer brown base rims. When I was getting into it there was the big transition from green to brown bases and I was right there for it, so I prefer the brown bases. Although you don't really see them anyways because I think you should " base " movement trays in the same way as bases.
Do you give the monsters in your army a bit of background to why they're with your dudes other than "the big guy is just here I suppose"?
My orcs are all on brown bases, but I'm putting my current vampire counts project on black bases. (Plus autumn foliage). Also like to put Mordheim models on black bases since the terrain tends to match. I actually also do like the old-school green base rims, and almost want to do a whole army in that style. >>98684208 is correct though, no matter what the tray must match the basing of it's unit or I'll be upset.
do we have an /ourguy/ at the WTC next week?
Brown bases for life. I came into the hobby during the Goblin Green rim phase and while my Empire army is based like that, once brown bases started getting popular I made the shift and never looked back.

I like Beastmen aesthetically, they seem really cruel and evil losers. Skaven have that fanatical element about them that makes them too wacky and strong. Beastmen seem just vindictive because they are the world's biggest losers.
>>98684873I like the lore around Centigors, they're aware of how retarded the idea of centaurs is so they drink heavily to escape their poorly thought-out lives

I used to do them glossy, but ended up switching to satin some years ago.I do like me some 4th ed goblin greenies, but I find that, unless I sand the rims of the bases, they'll eventually get some chipping on the green, which is much more noticeable than on black.
>>98684745They should be lighter then air aircraft. If stanks are cutting edge, heavier than air ships are about 100 years to advanced. One fifty for anything like a gyrocopter. And dwarfs are supposed to be cautious not innovative.
>>98685064Disagree. Dwarf technology SHOULD be inconsistent and anachronistic, that's the logical consequence of them broadly being cautious rather than innovative with the exception of a small minority of Engineers - which technologies gain grudging(aha) acceptance isn't a matter of a rational tech-tree progression, but rather on what exceptions get made to the general Luddite vibe based on extreme need. They *can* build submarines and airships and gyrocopters, but only the gyrocopters get built and used on anything approaching a systemic level because they NEED some reliable way of keeping the holds in contact despite the degradation and occupation of the underways and so an exception is grumpily made. They were fine when they looked like a Da Vinci sketchbook contraption.
>>98685580I was always partial to Dwarfen hightech. Mostly because I was an easily impressed teenager when Dreadfleet came out and the Dwarf ironclad, with dirigibles floating around it, was the coolest shit ever. Reading the Gotrek and Felix story where they take a blimp into the Chaos Wastes only reinforced this mindset. It's kind of funny how growing up in the late 7th - 8th era made me okay with things like giant Dwarfen (air)ships or picrel, when most people who grew up on 6th or earlier seem to consistently dislike these elements. But at least it's better to have imprinted on the setting before End Times shit started coming out.
>>98685861Eh it's kind of a yo yo thing as 4th edition had shit like picrel. Is the middenheim automorial from 7th or 8th, I forget. Always loved that pic.
>>98685883Think it was 7th? Or here's another one I like - bit of concept art from Gallagher. Imagine if the Empire Engineer Mechanical Steed was a highly ornamented "motorcycle", as in this picture, instead of a a full-on robot horse. I've never met a single soul alive who liked the robot horse, but having a clunky Da Vinci automaton instead might have been fun.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMJ7GECjtLUWas watching the embed and he mentioned that 3e books had units that were given stats but never had a model officially released. Was that a big deal then? My understanding is that making your own miniature was accepted and supported in the early days
>>98686002GW was making rules for models that didn't exist until probably 2012. It opened the door for 3rd party companies to produce proxies for models that GW didn't make. which eventually led to GW no longer posting rules for units that they didn't make official models for.

>>98684745I haven't thought about it in depth, but I think the most impressive technology of a gyrocopter should be the engine, which in my headcannon requires some runed components so that it has enough power-weight ratio and burn kerosene whilst made out of non-industrially machined parts. The rest of the vehicle is made from mundane, lightweight materials. Steel structural support with coverings made from painted canvas and different kinds of wood. Maybe it's armoured around or under the cockpit. So basically, currently they look like a 1948 helicopter with fantasy decorations attached; when instead it should look like 19th, maybe even 18th century gyrocopter (also remember it's a gyrocopter because they don't have the technology to angle the rotor blades to provide forward thrust so need a propeller)
>>98686302Top notch work; I wish you the best of times
>>98686313>burn keroseneIt runs off of distilled alcohol, according to multiple sources. I know you mentioned headcanon, but it is a fun fact.

>>98686313>>98684745The gayrocopter is simply one of the worst additions to Warhammer in history of the setting, and the only real solution is to.retcon it completely and replace it with something more grounded like pic related. >>98686313There is simply no way to justify the engineering using Warhammer tech. Without precision machined parts there is no way the rotors could even reach the rpm required to generate lift. How could the components available, which in pics look like wood and canvas rotor blades, even withstand the Nr required, assuming we could even hand wave the engine away as being a magic cop out or some shit, the wooden rotor head would literally combust from friction. If you ever even look at a main rotor head, the amount of components required, and precision balancing, is simply inconceivable even with dwarf tech. How would the pilot even account for power margins and shit. Furthermore, if it uses a propeller for forward thrust why not bother to give it wings, like a Mi-24 for example, to compensate with lift in the event the pilot has to fly out due to power loss or has to autorotate... the current design is guaranteed death the first downdraft or if he fucks up power margin, which is guaranteed to happen since he has no flight instruments or PFD/MFD. Are we also supposed to assume the dwarfs have coolant and a hydraulics system? Just fucking retarded

>>98686822>Dwarf D Day assault on naggaroth after finding out they were behind the war of the beards
>>98685861Well the reason we're against that kind of stuff is largely because part of what made things like that Gotrek & Felix story so appealing is exactly that the Spirit of Grungni was a one-off rarity, the mad creation of a maverick with nothing left to lose. If literally the only special thing about it was the anti-chaos amulets and warpstone filters on the air intakes as some would try to suggest in later years so airships could be A Thing for Dwarfs more widely, then you diminish the original. That said, I don't think it's so much a generational thing as it is an artfag vs prosefag thing. There were HurR DuRr FLyiNg SaiLBoAt ThO GurRRr retards even back in 4th & 5th editions, and I know a few people who came to the IP in its final dying years who're just as repulsed as I am by the kind of Total Warhammerisms you see these days like Blackfire Pass being literally on fire with lava in an obsidian hellscape rather than the basic fucking alpine valley it was described as repeatedly in the fiction and sourcebooks. cont...1/2
>>98686836>>98685861...2/2People who largely consumed Warhammer through the artworks in the army books think it's an ultragigahigh fantasy IP absolutely saturated with skyscraper sized siege towers, skull shaped mountains, impossible giant statues on wheels pulled by thousands of flagellants, etc etc etc. People who read the actual details of the world in unit blurbs, WD short stories, BL novels, and RPG books have a completely different understanding of a setting where the stuff you see in the art is an incredibly rare and occasional oddity, a depiction of the grandest and most significant moments in history, or the in-setting fever dreams of a some warpstone-addled painter. There have always been two Warhammers really, it's just that initially GW valued and catered to the prosefags because we tend to be ride-or-die autists who'll buy any amount of overpriced sourcebooks, but in latter years producing models became so cheap for them that it was simpler to start catering to the artfags instead because they don't really give a shit if you keep your setting consistent as long as it continues to look cool.
>>98686836>>98686838You're comparing two stances but one is through your biased identity while the other is a strawman. An equivalent but opposite post to yours would be trying to say that "your kind" thinks that NONE of the ultragigahigh fantasy elements that have been showcased are to be considered as actually existing in the setting.
>>98686313That's basically what it was before it got 8th Editioned. Picrel is(not mine) the 6th edition gyrocopter, the older one from 4th was even more primitive.

>>98686852>>98686868Also, I'm "trying to say" nothing, I am uncharitably paraphrasing my interactions with artfags over decades - most of them legitimately do believe that the Heavy Metal Album Cover conception of Warhammer is correct and that the whole setting runs on Awesomesauce.
>>98686765Kinda wish we had dwarven mobility themed armylist focusing on rangers and miners and gyros.

>>98684406I just finished up a page for of lore for why my Nomadic Waaagh's Black Orc chariots are actually 3d printed Ogre maneaters on Hippos."Silkguts, they call themselves, for they have long done as all farstriding Ogres inevitably do and ‘went native’. Nobody but Sargor, the uncannily canny leader of the Silkguts, remembers exactly when he and his lads crossed the great deserts and savannahs into Araby, but they all agree that the pay was good and the eating even better. For decades the Silkguts sold their services to Sultans and Sheiks, rampaging across the Southlands for spiced meats and strange coin."And oh do they have the tales to prove it, for every Ogre is a braggart at heart.Ask Sargor and his boys and they single handedly saved more than one petty desert kingdom from death. That they wrestled the great river-beasts, called Barniqs by the native Arabyians, from their muddy bogs and broke their spirits as one breaks a horse. That the fine silken garments, soiled with gristle and grease and the dust of long years spent riding through the badlands, were personal gifts from a Wizard Prince that sailed the rivers and seas in a great palace-ship powered by enslaved djinn. Every ‘skinny’ from Lashiek to Ka-Sabar knows and loves them, so Sargor reminisces, offering even their babes for them to eat. When asked why the glutton has been forced back north and into the employ of an upstart Hobgoblin Khan, all Sargor and his boys can do is shrug and sheepishly admit.>"Well…turns out youse weren’t meant to eat all the babes. Not the Sultan’s at least.”
>>98687071>part 2Due to this catastrophic misunderstanding of dining etiquette, Sargor’s Silkguts have been forced from their cushy lives as the favoured guards of impossibly wealthy desert lords and back to honest sellsword work. It is an unwelcome change of pace for the Ogres, who have steadily grown more corpulent and lazy, feasting nightly on all manner of exotic delicacies. But the killer edge that allowed them to reach such levels of indolence still remains, and the Silkguts have become a surprisingly dependable iron fist that Kublah can rely upon even as the Orcs grow rowdier and rowdier under his control. As long as he can meet their fees the Khan has nothing to fear from the preening gluttons, who only care about the next meal and the next nap under the warm Southlands sun.A good thing then that Sargor has developed a taste for Orc meat, and that the Khan has so many uppity greenskins to feed to the Ogres in lieu of payment in gold. A pinch of saffron and salt and they’re an absolute delicacy…at least according to Sargor.

>>98686836>>98686838Maybe? But I think you're still overestimating the extent of the art/prose dichotomy. Like when I used Dreadfleet as an example - it wasn't just the mood artwork, it was also clearly written out with the miniatures and lore of that game. Like the Dwarf ironclad ship had this extensive lore blurb about how Barak Varr had bent their entire hold to creating the greatest Dwarfen vessels ever, massive wonders of technology, blah blah. I even remember thinking "oh, this must take place a few years AFTER the Spirit of Grugni was invented, and now airships are being adopted by the rest of the dwarfs". Same game (and the associated novella) lead me to believe that this is a setting where a Mad Scientist dwarf can go rogue and create a giant mechanical kraken by himself, hell, even the Empire ship had a fighting-automation figurehead and a cathedral on top. Compared to Manowar it's a huge departure w.r.t groundedness. Or in the other Gotrek and Felix story there's famously that detail about a Steam Tank Factory. I didn't see the lore blurb about there only being eight tanks total because I didn't have the army book. I read the novel, where steam tanks are mass produced, and trustingly took it as canon that the Empire were a rapidly industrializing power who mass-produced newfangled technology.I'm sure that lots of people do just look at the pictures and skip the prose, but just in my own defense I really was into the lore and, in those cases, it matched the art. Would guess some creative director in GW started pushing for more "40k scale" stuff to become an explicit part of the setting (since 40k sold good) rather than it just being art pieces confusing people.

>>98688362Very cool man.>>98688377And it looks good for the work. Good on anon

I like the engineer dwarfs but that's because their designs look like it took them a bit to get to and decide on their designs, which it did. As opposed to quirky steampunk AoS dwarves, but AoS Flanderizes most of its armies.
>>98688593>because their designs look like it took them a bit to get to and decide on their designsThis is the most retarded cope I've seen on dwarves.
>>98688593if you actually owned any of those models you'd know that the aos ships entire design language is based on motifs already present in the gyrocopters. motors and propellers? check. compressed gas chambers? check. engraved dwarven face ornamentation on the nose? check. rotating ball joint turret guns? check. bombs? they use the exact same bombs, check. its nothing the dwarfs havent done before, its just large enough to accommodate a full crew
>>98688243
>>98688331I hope ogres become a main TOW faction, but I’m still going to use the new gluttons as bulls/ironguts because they’re flat out better than the old models. Old metal characters, though. GW shat the bed on the updated characters.

>>98688746Maybe if you beg me to stop hard enough I'll stop.

How do we feel about resin releases being squatted?
>>98689138I hope they wait until I can get all the resin models I want first. There's a bunch of cool ones.
>>98689138It’s probably the death of creativity for warhammer.
>>98688243You are a transexual pedophile
>>98689123I don't think Brettonia will be shown off just the TK stuff but I could see Brettonia being released early next year,it would explain why they don't have Battle March boxes
>>98689146Blame the Britsh govement i think that's the only reason GW is doing this change.Got to go for Net Zero afterall
>>98684711I am waiting for you. In spain bitch.
Next Chaos Knight is finished. Your thoughts?
>>98689188
>>98689196Still needs to be based before it's finished. Paintjob's good for tabletop, some manual highlighting to make it look a bit less "contrast paint-y" and increase contrast where needed would lift it further.
>>98689196i think you let the contrast stain a bit too much on the horse's rear, which might need a touch-up, but that's just nitpicking on my part
>>98689196These are well painted but its kinda boring. Maybe it'll look better when ranked up rather than an individual piece.
>>98688760I agree, I like the fat inbred monster look of the new ones, but the old kits are a treasure trove of bits. I like the gorgers a lot too, I hope they do something similar for yhetees at some point.
>>98689138The finecast debacle means that a lot of GW's biggest fans despise resin and recasters can produce near identical copies at a third of the price, honestly I'm surprised they've stuck with resin for as long as they have
>>98689150Ok.
Do I really NEED two butchers?
>>98689212>some manual highlighting to make it look a bit less "contrast paint-y"I'm a middling hobbyist at best, so take it from an expert at being mediocre - this is 100% amazing advice. A layer of contrast vs a layer of contrast plus manual highlights is actual night-and-day difference. It elevates a model very easily by adding visual interest, and also can add some saturated value to the color scheme when contrast paints often tend towards an overly subdued tone. And it's easy and doesn't take very long.
>>98689135>waaaa waaaaYour world is a tiny bubble, luddite.

Played a 1500 Pitched Battle against some stunties. It was a quick, brutal and visceral battle. Snagrog had been joined by the Black Orc Big Boss, Morgrim Bonebreaka, who had a choppiest choppa and cgarmed shield. The Giant was ripped apart by the hammerers from the charge but killed 3 as he fell flat!Snagrog and the Dwarf King met and in a ferocious flurry of rage and Choppa swinging, caused 5 wounds! However the King had his Gromril armour, and only took 3. Snagrog took two between the anti armour save rune and the shieldbearers, his ToP saving his life! The Dwarfs shield walled, the black orcs following and Snagrog's big uns restraining. Morgrim the blorc big boss slaughtered the Dwarf Thunderers and gun thane (4d6 exploding hits!) with Grotfang's boar boyz, running him down and reforming. The black orcs were broken after the devastating charge, the arrer boyz slaughtered by the slayers. The king and longbeards overran into Snagrog.Bit of sneaky cunning, Snagrog shoved the big un boss in front to face the king while he slaughtered the Longbeards with his ladz. The king broke and fled with what was left, Snagrog cutting him down!Desoite this, the dwarfs got their revenge, the slayers cutting down Snagrog in a mutual challenge kill!In the end, when all was said and done, 2 slayers, an organ gun and 8 rangers remained for the stunties. For the Orcs, 8 big uns, 3 fleeing boyz 2 trolls and the rock lobber was all that remained. In the end, the bloodiest draw id ever fought and an amazing game. WAAAAGGGHH!!!
>>98687634If they're not back in the next 18 months, I'll shag Andy Law's wife.Only really question is whether we get witch elves, guess we could get some old 6e models or something, the army would lose massive flavour without them.
>>98689424>If they're not back in the next 18 months, I'll shag Andy Law's wife.I'm not sure that's going to be a pleasant experience

A question to people that played 6th edition using the first dwarf army book: when a Runelord on the Anvil of Doom generates its spell dice (D6+2) does he add the 2 base army spell dice to that pool?
>>98689196That's better than anything I've ever done. Great fucking work.

>>98690408These aren't your models, they're bait.
>>98688377Kind of but not really, because I usually end up making other units out of the other parts anyhow

Bestigors, do they have a role at least in hordes of chaos or are they still kinda wack
>>98690628Wack, they simply cost too Much, hit too late, and die too quick. They need weapon options or to go down in points by a lot
>>98690686what is "a lot" by TOW/WHFB standards?
>>98690379DO you want simple and still good looking skeletons, despite being old?Or the new CAD skeletons that required a degree in engineering and mild austism to build, a degree of useless crap unseen before on such simple creatures?
>>98690686Not him but what is the fundamental design problem with Bestigors in TOW? Compare to Black Orcs say, who have a similar role as shock heavy infantry and also have great weapons. Is it the 4+ save? The cost? The options?
>>986908065+ save.As they have great weapons they strike at I1, or I4 if they charge; but since charging double the fighitng ranks, those 6-7 attacks (might be double by blood rage, but not realibly) will face off agasint 10-15 , the sheer volume will mean you will loose more than them, add some AP-1 weapons and you're almost done for.A single attack for a13 pts model is pretty steep even wiht good stats, they simply don't deliver the attacks. They CAN get 4+ armour, but that mean using their hand weapons, granting full armour saves to your opponents, instead of striking them at str6, AP-2
Using new chaos warriors and knights as chosen while keeping the old models as regular warriors and knights?
Been reaidng for enemy Within, and also Paths of Damnation, but I did my WP's robes, using some white little lines on the high edges and using contrast paint to bind it all, bit different, looks not bad. What are YOU working on Anon?
>>98690832Sounds like a plan.>>98690828I suppose I ask because historically, Bestigors were actually ok but maybe that is also due to the single rank combat and marks of chaos.
>>98690847They could be used as an anvil take the blow, strike last but in two ranks? Just an idea. I'll still make some for the looks
>>98690833Just finished the last of these. Outriders for the Khan of da Blue Skyz. Hobgoblin wolf riders, using the Gitz range from AoS and my first 'unit' for the army. (I have a giant but it was painted ages ago and I just rebased it)I figure a sufficiently large and vicious wolf would be equal to a chariot pulled by two smaller and less vicious wolves.
>>98689212>>98689224>>98689226Here is one from the rear. I like the effect the contrast paint gets me so i don‘t feel like changing anything.
>>98690833Lahmian Vampire army continues. Finally bit the bullet to start some of the vampires themselves. Could be going worse but it's way harder than with skeletons and ghouls to make these ones look halfway pretty.
